- Tune in every Monday for a new episode of "The Saints That Serve Podcast" -

Twenty-six Mondays and counting! As we celebrate this milestone of consistent podcasting, we dive headfirst into the blocky universe of Minecraft – a game that has maintained its cultural relevance for an astonishing fifteen years.

What makes a pixelated, seemingly simple game continue to captivate players across generations? We share our fondest Minecraft memories, from the terror of first encountering Ghasts in the Nether to building elaborate secret bases with hidden snow golem shrines. The conversation takes us through Minecraft's evolution from a survival crafting game to a platform where people have built functioning computers and recreated Middle Earth to scale.

The upcoming Minecraft movie (starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, directed by Napoleon Dynamite's Jared Hess) sparks a lively debate about how film adaptations can capture the essence of beloved games. Between nostalgic gaming tales, we share exciting community updates – our inductive Bible study course is underway, we congratulate Dylan and Julie on their engagement, and announce the Saints that Play gaming channel launching in June.

We close with a heartfelt discussion about media experiences we miss from childhood, particularly the communal aspect of event television that streaming has largely replaced. This episode weaves together faith, gaming culture, and community in a way that reminds us why we gather each week – to connect, share stories, and celebrate the intersection of our spiritual and everyday lives.

Subscribe, follow us on social media, and join our growing community as we continue to serve through conversation, prayer, and occasionally, digital block-building adventures.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Serve podcast and Jairus, and we just wanted to
let you guys know that we loveyou and we're excited that you
came back for episode 26.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
That's right.
What if I just threw out like arandom number, 47.
200.
We've been doing this for 200episodes right, oh man, dude,
that's 200 Mondays.
We will get there one day.
Right now it's only been 26Mondays.
It's only been 26 Mondays.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Can you guys think about that?
We have been podcasting for 26Mondays and, for those of you
who listen to every singlepodcast, you've been with us for
26.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Mondays, 26 weeks and hopefully counting, bonus
content.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, which we have.
If you haven't listened to it,there's bonus content.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
How many pieces of content do you think we have
total with bonus content andepisodes?

Speaker 2 (01:39):
I'm going to say maybe like 33.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
With this episode that we are currently recording
this very second 34.
So some would say you're rightand some would say you're wrong.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah, Well, all the same, whether I'm right or wrong
, I would love it if all thelisteners would be following us
on social media.
We are on Instagram, we're onThreads, facebook X, all of it.
Check us out, follow us, like, comment and share.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
And subscribe if that's an option for that
platform.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
That's true, we're on YouTube and if you guys could
just even if you don't listen tous on YouTube, just go give the
video like a 30 second view, that way we can get a view on
there.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
And also, if you like , videos.
We are going to be doing thatsoon.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Meaning like not clicking the like button, but
like actually doing live videosand recorded videos of the
podcast.
That's right, yeah, yeah.
So if you're into that, thenyou need to go ahead and go and
subscribe to our YouTube channel, which is the Saints to Serve
podcast.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
So I have a fun fact.
Yeah, my wife told me that I'mher favorite podcast host.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Ooh, my wife told me that we needed more Lord of the
Rings content and your wife saidwe needed less.
Yeah, she did, she did.
So I'm thinking we need to do avideo recording of our wives
arm wrestling, and whoever winsdetermines how much Lord of the
Rings content there is.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
If my wife wins, is it all.
Lord of the Rings, contentNothing but.
Lord of the.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Rings no we just don't.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
And if my wife wins, it's none.
What if it's a tie?
Do we meet in the middle andsometimes do an episode on Lord
of the Rings?

Speaker 2 (03:19):
I think, regardless of who wins and lose, inevitably
it will come up.
Regardless of who wins and lose, inevitably it will come up.
Just like we were talkingbefore.
We recorded that we weren'tgoing to bring up lord of the
rings, and here we are talkingabout lord of the rings well,
what?

Speaker 1 (03:29):
what ashley suggested was that we have like a
playlist that just puts everyepisode of the podcast that
mentions lord of the rings is ina in a playlist playlist.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, that's awesome.
Yeah, that would be most ofthem, probably, but uh, anyways,
yeah, so make sure you'refollowing us.
Announcements we just completedthe first lecture for our
inductive bible study course.
That's in our local communityand boy oh boy was it good?

Speaker 1 (03:58):
yeah, it went.
You did a good job, except whenyou tried to record it and it
didn't record yeah, I okay, Iknew this was gonna fail utterly
.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Eight gigabyte sd card.
I didn't know that.
I was like maybe I'll get 30minutes, maybe oh man, maybe
I'll record 30 minutes of thishour-long course?
Yeah, well, because it's Ididn't need the entire course.
I mean, I in a perfect world, Iget the course, but it's more
so about watching my mannerisms, listening to my filler words

(04:30):
Like that.
Yeah, but just to help meimprove the presentation overall
rather than like actuallylooking at the material because
I've got all that.
Yeah, I need to watch myselfpresenting the material.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
So, watching you do your thing up there, which was
in a small room at a coffee shop, but not really up there, hey,
we meet where we can meet, youknow?
Yeah, that's right, I didn'tnotice any of your filler words.
Oh really, and I think whenyou're there on the spot
listening to them, you don'tnotice, but it's when.

(05:04):
I guess for me, editing is whenI notice them, because I'm
fully listening for them andtaking them out.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
So I'm glad you clarified it.
You were intentionallylistening for them rather than
just saying what.
I'm fully listening.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Well, I'm paying attention to what you're saying
up there and not listening toyour fellow words.
Yeah, yeah, when I'm editingthe podcast.
I'm looking for all the thingsthat need to be taken out.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yep, yep, I got you.
So, anyways, yeah, so we justdid that.
That was pretty good.
We've got three more weeksbefore.
Everyone who's taking thecourse can say that we graduated
.
They graduated and they knowhow to study the Bible with the
inductive method.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
I think you did a great job and I think you got
some pretty great feedback.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
I did.
I got some pretty good feedbackfor week one.
I'm looking forward to seeinghow week two goes and kind of
like how we can make it betterand refine it better.
But we had what we had eightpeople in there, eight or nine.
We had what we had eight peoplein there, eight or nine.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
So it was me, my wife , you, your wife, dylan, and his
surprise future wife.
Congratulations,congratulations.
We'll get to that in twoseconds.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Which is Julie.
Just so everyone knows Juliewho came on episode.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
The fourth mission month episode we're getting up
to that point where we're losingtrack of numbers.
Yeah, but it's.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
And then janelle and her boyfriend yep, and her bow,
little little boyfriend, littlebow.
Uh, anyways, so that's seven, seven people, and then me, the
presenter and if you want tocount the child that was there
and the child.
Yeah, I don't know how much ofit she retained, but she was
there.
Yeah, she was there.
So there you go.

(06:51):
I mean good, nice little cozygroup, but it was good and we're
looking forward to getting somemore on the calendar after this
one's done so.

Speaker 1 (07:00):

I'm going to clip that clap outand that's gonna be our clap.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
It's just gonna be a this is the closest thing I have
to a clap.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Sorry, that's all I've got the farthest thing from
a clap.
Yeah, but yeah seriously.
Congratulations dylan,congratulations julie.

yep.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
And we're a couple of stallions.
I don't know, I may not benecessarily a horse, because I
got that dog in me.
Oh my God.
Anyways, I'm trying to seeSorry, You're good, I felt like
we had a new comment up.
We have several new commentsand we need to address them.
The most recent one Greatepisode.

(11:16):
I really like the comparison ofthe Prince of Egypt movie and
the Book of Exodus.
I think you all couldoccasionally review other
Christian movies, like thePassion of the Christ, for
instance, and compare that tothe Bible as well.
And that's from our belovedAshley.
Thank you, Ashley, and that'sfor last week's episode episode
25.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Nice, yes, we have already talked about it.
We are already in the works, planning for a sequel to Book
Versus.
I think is what we're going tocall that segment bible versus
well, I had it as the bible bookversus, yeah, yeah, the bible
book versus whatever and I didmovie, so that I think bible,

(11:58):
the bible versus.
And we're going to do tv next.
We don't know when we're goingto do that, but the plan is to
eventually do TV.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
And here's Ashley's comment on episode 24.
Welcome back, johnny.
Wildfires, flu and fog I love.
The cryptic corner is back Also.
I laughed when Jairus said thatJesus would work at Starbucks,
because that's where the sinnersare.
Literally went to Starbuckstoday for a decaf Americano.
So LOL, but it's true.

(12:29):
Romans 3.23, for all havesinned and fall short of the
glory of God.
Last, I think you all shouldgroup the Lord of the Rings
episodes.
There are at least three now.
I feel like there might be more, but oh, there's going to be
more.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Oh, there's more.
After we do the watch along ofthe promised land, we should
just do a Lord of the Ringswatch along.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
There you go.
That'd be good.
And then here's one for episode22, the Valentine's episode.
This is from Julie.
Let's go, Julie.
Congratulations Julie.
Let's kick Johnny off thepodcast and have Ashley take his
job.
Go, Ashley.
I love this married couple duo.
Maybe we should do a spinoff ofpodcast instead.

(13:19):
Oh, Isn't that really what theSaints that play is going to be
ultimately, though?

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Yeah, that's like what Julie is asking for.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
It's going to be the Ashley.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Jerry.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Zero Right.
So there you go, julie.
Thanks for the for the comment, and your comment has been
answered.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
So that's it, Mark.
That bad boy done is finished.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
That's on Spotify and YouTube.
I don't think we have anything.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
We need more people on YouTube, yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Four reels More people doing more people things.
You know what I mean, Vern.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Oh, I thought you were talking about like there
was four reels on YouTube.
Oh no, Like a TikTok shortvideo reel.
I wish we need to do that, weshould get into the short form
entertainment division.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Does anyone want to commit to watching every single
reel that we post?
If so, leave a comment.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Does anybody want to commit to being our short-form
social media manager?
And they just watch our videosand listen to our podcasts and
then make clips and create clipsfor the show.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
That would be great yeah, commit to it right now, do
it, commit, commit.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Don't hesitate, just call us right now.
555-75it Commit.
Don't hesitate, just call usright now 555-755.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
No, that's not our actual number.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
I'm trying to think of any phone number I could
jokingly call out.
That's from movie 867-5309.
There you go, hey, there you go.
That's one I can call outlegally Okay.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Speaking of YouTube, can we talk about how
frustrating it is that I'veposted stuff throughout my
entire life and the most amountof views in the shortest amount
of time that has ever happenedto me is a 15 second long, short
video of me talking about araccoon, and it gets, in three

(15:26):
days, almost 500 views.
Like all my other videos do notexceed 70 views right right
it's just that one, because youdid hashtag trash panda.
It, yeah, it literally is that.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
That's the only thing I can think of can we talk
about how, for some reason, ourregal shenanigans video shaka
khan has over 10 000 views andall our other videos are in the
20s?

Speaker 2 (15:55):
I don't know here's my other one that I posted the
other day.
I put chickens Chickens needhashtag, protein hashtag,
sardines hashtag Minecraft inreal life, and it's got three
likes and 68 views and that wasa day ago, so apparently I just

(16:18):
need to start posting shortsThrowing.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Yeah, I guess shorts are where they're at Going back
to it.
We need a shorts manager.
Yeah, who wants to manage myshorts?
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:27):
because I did a seven-minute long video and it
only got two views.
I guess short form Get it at 15to 16 seconds is where it's at.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
So yeah again, who wants to clip and manage our
content on TikTok, instagramReels and YouTube Reels Is there
any other short, short formplaces.
I know facebook, I meanfacebook has it, but it's the
same instagram, facebook, yeah,so yeah, I think I guess there's
just technically four majorshort form sites.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Yep cool, there you go okay surprise.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
We're doing a film.
Oh, really yeah, oh, just one,you don't have to find one,
don't worry about it.
All right, all right, this one.
I was surfing yesterday and Icould not believe it.
This thing is incredible, okay.
Okay, are you ready?
I'm ready.
So I was going through this andashley saw me and Like what is
that?
So Arby's and Old Spice specialpromo sweat tracksuit.

(17:30):
So again, it's Arby's and OldSpice special promo tracksuit,
sweats tracksuit.
And if it helps any it's a sizemedium Sweats tracks it.
And if it, helps any.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
It's a size medium.
I'm going to say that it's likea hundred bucks.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
All right, would you like a second guess after I show
you the picture?

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Sure, all right $30.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
It's $200.
$200.
$200.
$200 for a Girl.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
we got the meats.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Tracksuit.
It's a hoodie and shortstracksuit set and it's just
roast beef, just layers of roastbeef, layers and layers of
roast beef on this tracksuit, upand down on it.
It is my favorite thing now.
I want this so bad, I and downon it.
It is my favorite thing now.
I want this so bad.
Like, I really want to wearthis.
Like if we start doing liveshows, yeah.

(18:30):
Like if we get you know popularenough that people want to see
us perform the podcast live, yeah, yeah, I'm buying this and
wearing this to every singlelive show, a hundred percent.
Okay, all right, I'm holdingyou to that.
That is my commitment to theaudience.
I will get the meat sweatstracksuit.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
You heard it here, fans Jairus is committing to a
dress in the we Got the Meatstracksuit.
If you guys make us big, allright, are we ready to do a
little transition into our topic, to our main topic yeah.
One hundred percent.
All right, tyler, this is yourtransition.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
we are moving on to our main topic for tonight, and
we are talking about hereminecraft if if you don't know
what we're talking about thatwe're imitating the villager
from Minecraft.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Huh, huh, yeah, yeah, beloved game right, mm-hmm,
everybody loves it.
When did you start playingMinecraft?
I started playing Minecraft in2013.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Minecraft came out.
Okay, this is wild to me,because there's not many games
that have the lifespan.
Yeah, that minecraft has.
Yeah, yeah, minecraft, andyou're gonna.
You might have to correct me Ibelieve minecraft came out in
2009.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
I'm I'm checking it right now.
Uh, yeah, 2009.
Yeah, I was yeah, 2009.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yeah, I was right.
Look at me being right.
Boyo, yep, yep yep.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
The public version of Minecraft was released on May
17, 2009.
The full version was releasedon November 18, 2011.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
What yeah, so there was like, if you ever see the
first iteration of Minecraft,it's bare bare bones.
There was nothing in there.
Oh, really, yeah, so that cameout in 2009.
I started playing, probably2010, 11.
Yeah, maybe, yeah, when it wasa little bit more playable, but
most games do not have alifespan of more than a year or

(20:38):
two.
This game was out for fouryears before you even touched it
.
Yeah, this game has now beenout for going on almost 15 years
.
Yep, is that, is that rightmath 16, 16 years?
Yeah, because we're in 2025.
So in four years, that game isgoing to be 20 years old.
Uh-huh, yep, and it's just wildto me how a game like that can

(21:01):
have such a long-lasting appeal.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
When?
If you don't know whatMinecraft is, it's just a
pixelated Lego.
If you want to call it aknockoff, it's not a knockoff.
It's unique in that sense, butit's just, it's Legos, it's
pixelated Lego.
It's so much more than that, but that is a very, very good
generalization of the game.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
It is, and I don't feel like there's a whole lot of
people in the gaming.
I mean definitely no one in thegaming world.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
If you've played a video game, you know what
Minecraft is.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Yeah, exactly that's what I'm trying to get at.
So how many copies do you thinkhave been sold in Minecraft?

Speaker 1 (21:37):
How many copies have you bought of Minecraft?

Speaker 2 (21:41):
That is the true tragedy right there.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
How many times I've had to buy minecraft?
No, but probably for me atleast six or seven times, just
because it it has spanned threegenerations of consoles yeah, so
I bought the original java andthen I we started playing on
Xbox.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
So I bought the Microsoft Bedrock when that
happened, and then I bought itfor tablet at some point, I
think, and then recently I hadto rebuy it again for some
stupid reason on the Xbox stupidreason on the Xbox.

(22:24):
And then now I find out, afterI bought it, that you also have
to have Xbox live to play it,which makes no sense.
Makes no sense.
You shouldn't need it, butapparently you do and you can't.
I can't do anything about myoriginal vanilla version.
Yeah, because I I missed thedeadline to transition it over.
So, whatever, I'm not bitter totransition it over.

(22:46):
So whatever, I'm not bitter.
Anyways, the game has sold.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Oh sorry, let me guess Probably 100 million
copies, 300 million.
I was close, not even close, nowhere near it.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Well, actually, if you count, one is close to the
number three, that's true, youare right, but anyways, it was
created by a guy named MarcusPearson and that is what his
name is not.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
I was trying to remember.
Thank you, welcome For ruiningthat for me.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
That's what my name is the Ruiner, the Ruiner.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Anyways, I have bought it on.
Thanks for asking.
By the way, anyways, I havebought it on.
Thanks for asking.
By the way, I have bought it onuh, I bought the original copy.
Okay, uh, pc, I bought it onps3, ps4 I think ps4 to ps5 was
transferable.
Yeah, xbox, I bought it onswitch.
That's seven right there.

(23:44):
I feel like I bought extracopies before when we did
Minecraft Nights with the youth.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeah, which were awesome.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
I'm going to say at least ten different times, but
the thing is, minecraft's onlylike $20.
Or was.
I don't know if they went up inprice.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Yeah, I don't know what it is now.
It's not terrible.
It's not like a 80 game, right, which most games are now yeah,
but it's evolved to now you canbuy in-game stuff, as all games
have become, yeah, so which someof it's pretty good, like we've
got that disney world oh mygosh that we need to go in and

(24:26):
do that as a live stream.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
That might be one of our starting streams.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Okay, because we did that one time when we did a
playthrough.
Yeah, but we just did it forfun, just for fun, that's right.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
We didn't really record or anything for that,
yeah, but essentially it waslike ride, every Disneyland ride
, it was a competition.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Whoever could do every single interaction in the
game and get back and hit thefireworks button at the end of
the night won.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
That's Disney World.
I said Disneyland.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Yeah, it's Disney World, so the superior Disney.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
It truly is.
I'm sorry.
So look, I can get off thattangent in two seconds.
I've been to Disneyland.
I've been to Disney World.
Disney World is better, oh yeah, oh yeah, but there are some
rides that are better inDisneyland, but as a whole they
have enough room to puteverything in there and not feel
cramped.
Yeah, all right, minecraft,we're back on topic.

(25:20):
All right, do we need like aoff-topic Tyler, like some of
that version, but like hey, sidetrack, sidetrack, cedric or
something like that?

Speaker 2 (25:31):
We'll have to come up with a witty one for one of our
fans.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
So that we'll say, hey, this is your side note,
side thought, or something likethat Cedric, this is your side
thought.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Okay, whoever is the first person to comment on this
episode, we will give you a sidenote.
Shout out, you will be the sidenote name.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
You will be the side note name.
Tyler has transition.
It'll help if your name startswith the letter S or has an S
sounding in it somewhere.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
But you know what?
No, the burden's on us.
You be the first one to comment, and then we will be creative
and find a way to do it.
Should we allow Ashley toqualify for this, or it'll be
ashley?
So okay, all right.
Well, most likely it's going tobe ashley, so she's in the
running.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
She's the only one who really is devoted right now
commenting.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
So that's true, that's true, okay all right,
what is your fondest minecraftmemory?

Speaker 1 (26:27):
okay, playing it for the first time and finding I
mean, you had to use guides, minecraft from the very
beginning when you're craftingstuff.
There was no recipes, nobodyknew any of that stuff, yeah,
yeah, so, like me trying tofigure out, okay, where do I go
from here?
And finding out that you haveto find all these ender pearls

(26:50):
yeah, not, sorry, not enderpearls find um diamond to get to
obsidian yep, to build theportal to the nether, to the
nether, and it's not fond, butit's probably one of the most
prominent memories.
And you being on the overworld, yeah, and that is a little,
it's already, already,especially for a new Minecraft

(27:12):
player.
Yeah, it's stressful being upthere, yeah, like when the sun
goes down and all these thingscome out after you.
Oh, yeah, and it's justnumerous things that are after
you.
And you know, you have thisgreen dude walk up to you and
like, okay, he's not shootinganything at me, he's not trying
to hurt me, what is he going todo?
And blow you up.

(27:34):
And he blows up like whoa, yeah, but to go through all of that
and okay, cool, what's behindthis portal?
And it's just literally heck, chaos, it's chaos, yep, and it's

(27:55):
just so, just distinctive amemory of just me panicking I
don't panic, playing games, yeahand being in this area and just
panicking, freaking out like,oh my gosh, what is that?
What is that?
Why are these pigs after me?
What is that thing?
Oh my gosh, why is that giantghost shooting fireballs at me?
Yeah, yeah, you know, I mean, Ithink that was the moment of
the gas shooting fireballs andyou hearing that thing scream

(28:16):
yeah, and it shoots a fireballat you.
I left the nether and it tookme a very long time to go back.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
Yeah, which is what's funny is the way you're
describing your reaction is thesame reaction that we still have
to this day.
If we go play Minecraft and wego in the nether, there's a lot
of what is going on?

Speaker 1 (28:39):
I know what is going on.
Yeah, something great aboutMinecraft, too, is when they
update it like you might stepaway from it for a couple of
months.
Yeah, because the way theyupdate it, you will always go
back and find something new.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Yeah, that's true.
Like I don't know if you know, but the most recent update added
a biome and added a couple ofmobs, but it added a specialty,
kind of like fight arena.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
What.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
Yeah, it's like a little mob fight arena, so you
fight all the mobs in it andthen it spawns a special mob.
That's kind of like the Wither.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
Uh-huh.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Or no?
No, it's not like the Wither,it's like the.
What are the?
Fire Blazes Blazes in thenether, it's like that, but it's
like a wind blaze.
What is this?

Speaker 1 (29:24):
game Minecraft.
But seriously, that's somethinggreat to me about having these
conversations as well about this.
Have you played Minecraftlately?
They added this and it's likeevery time you turn it on, it's
a brand new game.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Yeah, and we've played so many times and I still
have not found a mansion.
Oh my gosh, you know, like justin normal gameplay never found
one Crazy Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
And not to mention like Minecraft has become so
expansive, yeah, that mods arenot even needed anymore.
Like they're fun to have, yeah, but a lot of the stuff that
they add it comes from mods.
Yeah, so I feel like that's oneof the first games I ever
really did modifications to.
Yeah, yeah, do you rememberplaying with?

(30:14):
Oh, yeah, I remember playingPlaying on the mod server.
Yep, that was so much fun.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Dude, we had a ton of fun with that, just learning
how to get electricity going.
And then, like we turn aroundand the other guys on the server
are like are like shootingexplosives at each other and
making arc reactors and stuff.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
I think, laying, I just sit here and all these
different memories of all thesedifferent instances.
Yeah, anytime you get on andstart Minecraft Yep, so those
who don't know it starts a freshnew world, randomized.
Yeah, and so every time youplay Minecraft, even though
you're playing the same game, you will always have a different
experience playing minecraft.

(30:54):
That's true, no matter what.
Every time it's different andyou get so attached to it, yeah,
in a very positive way.
Yeah, um, I remember playingone time and we started up it
wasn't me and you, it was, uh, amutual friend of ours started
up a world.
It was me, him and two of, uh,two friends of ours as well, yep

(31:15):
, and it was kind of like ahunger games, survival, like go
run off, and at this time themaps were small.
Yeah, the limited maps, limitedmap yep, on older consoles you
had a very limited map size.
So it's like go build your yourbase, prepare, and then, after
a certain amount of time, youthen go and hunt down the other

(31:38):
players and once you kill them, they're out.
Yeah, yeah, so this would spanlike a couple hours, man.
I think it ended up being likethree or four hours.
Yeah, yeah, so I went in.
I built a really cool hiddenbase.
Uh, where it was like there waslike a kind of a crater with a
little pond in it and within itI built into the sidewall with

(31:58):
lever and pistons the stickypistons, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And so you just go over to this, like behind this bush, click a
button or flip a lever and then, over on the other side, would
open up my secret base in theside of the hill.
Yeah, yeah, so that's where mybase was.
Yeah, good luck finding itbecause I'm clever.
Yeah, I did that.
I built up, got diamond armorand I went and found somebody

(32:21):
and they had this massive castle.
Okay, great, hiding yourself.
Yeah.
So I snuck around, came over tohim, killed him.
He got so mad at me because heforgot the game.
He just started playingMinecraft.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
He forgot that we were supposed to be hunting each
other down and killing eachother.
He got so mad and he's likewhy'd you kill me?
For the reason we're here inthe first place.
Yeah.
And then later on, anotherfriend who was the one who
started this so I'm hiding againand I see him flying, because
in the game you can fly, yeah, yeah, and so he's, uh, he's

(32:59):
flying across the map, yeah, andI'm like you're cheating, yeah.
And so, like he saw me and hefound my base, took all my stuff
, but his excuse was uh, Ididn't.
I mean, yeah, I saw it when Iwas in the sky, but I landed and
came back normal.
No, you cheated all togetherand took all my stuff, dude,

(33:20):
what the heck?
I know that sounds like anegative memory, but it's just
like it's fun.
It's just like me and ashleywill still play minecraft.
Yeah, yeah, to this day, likeit's just.
It's such a timeless game.
That's my Minecraft rant andI'll have 37 other ones because
it's just as we're talking.
More memories will come upabout this game.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Yeah, one of my favorite ones is actually the
livestream that we did, where Igenerated the map and created
the story for the game.
It's a four-part series.
It's on our YouTube channel.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
It is on the-part series.
It's on our YouTube channel.
It is on the Saints that Play, but it's labeled Regal Games.
Like the videos, will belabeled as Regal Games videos.
That was when we did RegalGames live streaming.
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
So the channel is the Saints that Play, but it may
still have the old labeling forthe videos, but it's the I think
it's called John's adventuremap or something like that.
Part one through four, whatever.
There should be a playlist forit, yeah.
But I mean we had a ton of fundoing that.
I had a lot of fun throughoutthe week like building the next
part of the map and building thenext part of the adventure, and

(34:23):
then, like during the game.
It's like you know, I've got anidea of where I want this to go
, but it it's just going to gothe way you guys play.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
So, however, you guys play, you essentially had like
a Dungeons and Dragons map goingin Minecraft.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Yeah, it was like a fantasy map, yeah, yeah, and
there was lore and stuff in it,but yeah, we were just playing
for fun.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Do you remember Sunflower Hill?

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Yeah, that one was good too.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
That was like our reoccurring storyline and it all
died because Because of, yeah, the Wither, because of the
Wither.
So I did this to myself and itkilled the series because I was
trying to make the stream moreinteresting.
So I said everybody was there, everybody was prepped.
We had gathered, prepped, beingNot there yet we were prepared
to fight the Wither.

(35:09):
Yeah, not there yet.
We were prepared to fight thewither.
Yeah, but we weren't fullyready.
But we were ready to summon thewither.
So if you're not familiar withminecraft, the wither is like a
secret side boss.
What is there now?

Speaker 2 (35:23):
I know that there was the ender dragon, there's the
wither, there's the warden, thewarden, and then the most recent
one is that one that I wastelling you about.
It's not really like a hardboss, but it's essentially like
a wind version of the blazes andthe raiders.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
I guess they don't really technically count as
bosses, but no, it's just agroup of group of yeah, raiders,
overland, bad guy villagers sothe wither is, at the time of
last me playing is kind of likethe secondary secret harder
major boss and it's probably oneof the harder ones you have to
get and prep for.
Yeah, because so in the netherthere are wither skeletons that

(36:04):
you have to kill, yep, and ifyou kill them, there is a very,
very, very low chance that theydrop their heads.
Yep, if you kill them, there isa very, very, very low chance
that they drop their heads.
Yep, if you get three of thoseheads and you build a letter T,
right, it's like a low weirdletter T, yeah, letter T with
soul sand.
And then you put three of theskeleton heads on it, it will

(36:26):
summon the wither, which is likethis flying skeleton thing that
is has high health and doeshigh damage.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
You know playing minecraft like know all this
stuff right?
I'm sitting here listening toyou explain as to someone who's
never played minecraft beforeand I'm like this is ridiculous.
It really is.
This sounds insane, but it is.
That's legit how you do it.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
So in the live stream we got to the point where we
could summon the wither and Isaid, okay, guys, I'm going to
summon the wither.
And they're like, okay, give ustime to prep.
And I said, okay, for thestream, I'm going to find a
random countdown timer, yeah, and I just put in give me a
random time.

(37:15):
So I didn't say a time, I justmade it random.
I said y'all start prepping andthen I'm going to start the
countdown timer, yeah, and onceit hits zero, no matter what,
I'm summoning the wither, yeah, yeah, no matter what, I'm
summoning the wither, yeah, yeah.
And so I ended up being like 12minutes, which is not enough

(37:37):
time to prep, yeah, but we allagreed that we were going to
summon the wither underground, yeah, so everybody's out there
prepping and again, I guessagain everybody gets sidetracked
because minecraft is such apeaceful game to play.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
I know it doesn't sound like it when we describe
these weird moments.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
I want to clarify that I was not sidetracked.
I was working diligently to tryand fortify that little cavern
that we were going to spawn himin.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
But I think only I knew the time and I was going to
commit 100%.
I was committing no matter what, yep, and I knew it was going
to upset everybody.
But I'm committing.
So it hits zero.
I summon the wither and ifyou're close by to the wither
which most everybody was itgives its health bar at the top
of the screen.
Yep, it gives almost like awarning and the skies go black.

(38:25):
So all of a sudden, the skiesgo black and you get the warning
.
Like the wither is here andeverybody on the stream is just
like no, no, I'm not ready.
Oh, no, no, what's going on?
Of course it starts trying toblow its way out.
So, essentially, in like a spanof like 20 seconds, the wither
has created this giant craterand it just starts annihilating

(38:48):
the world and so, essentially,we all die, yep multiple times,
multiple times, and we all giveup, we kill the stream.
And essentially because of theway that I planned to be funny,
yeah, we just lose sunflowerhill.
Yeah, I think that map it stillexists, I think it's still

(39:10):
there, oh, really.
And I think Sunflower Hill isactually the house is still
there.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
Oh, okay.

Speaker 1 (39:14):
So, but at that point I liked the canon that we did
all this work.
We had like 14 episodes of thisjust prepping, making this
world great, yeah, and then Ijust love the idea of I screw up
and now this just destroyed theplanet.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Essentially, yep, and no more Sunflower Hill.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
No more Sunflower Hill.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
Yeah, that's a lot of fun, yeah, so what was your
best build?

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Oh, I'm terrible at building.
I just 100% what's your bestbuild?
I was on a server playinglittle mini games one time, just
like a public random server, just being bored playing on PC.
One day, yeah, and I got on andI got into a build contest and

(40:01):
I won.
Oh really, yeah, I won becauseI built a pig and he was green
and I named him like Steve theradioactive pig, nice, something
like that.
So I just used green wool, madea pig and called him
radioactive.
They loved it and I won.
it wasn't that impressive okay, still, yeah, won a building

(40:23):
contest yeah, so I won that andwon nothing like oh, here's a
diamond, congratulations, youknow what I mean.
Yeah, yeah, so that was fun.
But overall I was always thekind of person who, when playing
Minecraft, I really enjoyed themechanical side of things and
the sense of like secret bases, hidden things, secret little

(40:46):
rooms and pistons and redstone.
Yeah, secret little rooms andpistons and redstone.
And there's people who makelike really integrate huge,
ridiculous massive castles withall these details of like
flipping a staircase and thenputting a painting on it to make
it look like a couch and justlike intricate beds.
And that's not me.

(41:07):
In Minecraft, I've always beenthe one of just goofing off,
yeah, having fun, what was it?
We were playing that one timeand I just had this, this secret
room.
My goal always when playingminecraft is to make secret
rooms inside other people'shouses.
My favorite mob so terminologyin minecraft any creature in

(41:28):
Minecraft is called a mob.
Yeah, my favorite Minecraft mobis the snow golem.
Yes, my thing with that is Iwill always find a way this is
going to sound weird, but it'smore comical than anything is to
build a secret shrine to snowgolems inside other people's
houses.
That's always been my thingthing, it's the funniest thing

(41:51):
to me so that randomly, somebodywill find I always call them
these are my friends.
Yeah, I always like, put likemaybe three to five of them in
somebody's house secretly,because they don't make any
noise, they just make snow.
Yeah, so you need two snowblocks and a pumpkin, a carved
pumpkin, a carved pumpkin, Ithink a normal pumpkin works too
.
Oh, really, yeah, I think so,unless they changed it, I don't

(42:13):
know, I don't remember.
So, yeah, a jack-o'-lantern,essentially, yeah, is what
you're saying, which makes sense, yeah, but and then just put
them in there and then just like, have them, like just in this
room and sign saying these aremy friends, or uh, or, or a
shrine to my friends, and stufflike that.
So I always love doing that.
It is the funniest thing to me.
Yeah, yeah, because I will trymy best to sneak around, I will

(42:35):
steal other people's resourcesto make the secret room, I'll
try to make it shiny, like, whyis the walls of this room made
of all the iron I worked hard toget?
Yeah, yeah, stuff like that.
It's so much fun to me becauseit's harmless.
It's harmless.
It's harmless and it's like, okay, where did my diamond go?
Oh, it's just in a diamondblock on the wall in this secret

(42:56):
shrine.
Yeah, it's just really funny tome.

Speaker 2 (42:59):
That's funny.
Yeah, I really liked what I didwith the livestream fantasy map
that we did, but I wouldn'treally count that because I was
a creative.
I was in creative.
Explain what creative versussurvival is real quick, so
survival is, you're dropped intothe world and you have to
harvest any material and youhave to figure out how to put

(43:22):
certain materials together tocreate something, and that's how
you get accomplishments in thegame.
But you have to find thematerial out in the map.
You have to harvest thematerial out in the map.
You have to harvest thematerial out in the map and then
you have to bring it back andbuild it.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
So, for example, you're dropped in with nothing.
You have health, you have toeat food, essentially without
really telling you much ofanything.
They drop you in and it justsays go yeah.
And for somebody who doesn'tknow how the game works, you
have to figure the things outcorrect.
It's a lot easier now.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
They have streamlined it somewhat yeah, they've made
it easier, but um creative mode.
You have all the resources atyour hand and you can fly
through the map so essentiallyit's.

Speaker 1 (44:03):
Minecraft has become a almost like a way to make art
pieces.
Yeah, and in creative, you haveunlimited resources and the
ability to fly around anywhereto build your art pieces or
build out maps, or buildwhatever you want, do whatever
you want, with no limitations ofhealth, hunger, anything like

(44:24):
that.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
This is how insane Minecraft is.
There's a group of guys insideof Minecraft that have built a
computer in Minecraft withredstone mechanisms and can play
Minecraft in Minecraft withtheir redstone computer.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
So I still don't fully understand.
If you look at redstonecontraptions of that caliber,
it's massive, massive complexesof redstone wiring.
Yeah, because it runs to likelogic and it's like, if this,
then it runs.
The redstone signal a differentdirection and it's beyond me.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
Oh yeah, I would never be able to.

Speaker 1 (45:04):
Essentially, it's downright building a computer in
a video game Yep andprogramming a computer in a
video game To play the videogame that you're playing.
It's insanity.
Yeah, yeah, I remember backwhen it was incredibly
impressive that somebody built acalculator in Minecraft.

Speaker 2 (45:22):
Yeah, yep, but Minecraft can also be as simple
as you drop in.
You build a nice little house, you get a couple of different
animals like a cow, some pigs, some sheep and a chicken.

Speaker 1 (45:36):
you just farm simulate minecraft is so
versatile that it can be assimple as you want it to be or
as complicated as you want it tobe.
It gives you the ability to dowhatever you want.
Yeah, and on the surface itlooks like a children's game,
but it is so much more than that.

Speaker 2 (45:56):
Yep, and there's a server that you can go to and it
is a recreation, scene forscene, of Peter Jackson's
adaptation of Lord of the Rings, right, so you can literally
walk through Middle Earth inthis Minecraft map and see
Gondor.
To scale, yeah, to scale, yeah.

(46:17):
So you can go and see Helm'sDeep, you can go and see the
Tower of Isengard, you can goand see Hobbiton, like all these
crazy things.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
Another one, have you seen?
It's literally somebody builtthe world the map.
Yeah, so like essentially, somebody Earth the Earth, us the
map, yeah, so like essentiallysomebody Earth the earth, us
earths Yep, Built it out towhere it's the full.
I wouldn't say quite to scale, but it's massive all the same.
Yeah, the layout and shape ofthe entire planet and the

(46:48):
continents and the island.
Somebody built this out.
Yeah, but it's still flat landand they just dropped people in
and said have at it.
Yeah, and they.
I think the big thing is isthey built a bridge from Florida
to Europe.
I think was one of the massiveprojects they undertook.

Speaker 2 (47:09):
Which wouldn't work out the best way in real life,
of course not.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
Minecraft logic is if you build, like, you can build
a tower of blocks and if youbreak the bottom block like,
let's say, if you stack dirt, athree stack of dirt you can
break the bottom two and thatthird one will now float in the
air.
There's weird logic toMinecraft.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (47:31):
You could build essentially a floating bridge.
Yeah, but part of that isgetting in, mining and
collecting all the resources tobuild a bridge from florida to
europe.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
Yeah, that's true.
Yeah, awesome, awesome, awesome.
All right, we've talked a tonabout minecraft.
Now we need to talk about themovie.

Speaker 1 (47:52):
Do we have to?

Speaker 2 (47:52):
Yeah, I know, so I really don't know how I feel
about it.

Speaker 1 (47:59):
I can tell you where I'm currently standing, because
it's been a bit of arollercoaster for me.
Okay, a lot of up and downs, back and forths.

Speaker 2 (48:08):
Well, real quick, before you get into that, for
those of you who do not know.
So, Minecraft we've talkedabout the video game.
You've kind of got an idea ofhow.
It's just an open world sandbox, but it's also like a survival
strategy game.
All right, they are coming outwith a movie.
It's releasing the beginning ofapril, april 4th.
The stars are jason momoa andjack black.

(48:31):
Then there's a couple otherlesser, like kid characters.

Speaker 1 (48:34):
Kid characters and I mean personally haven't heard of
, like the two women who are inthat movie, the actresses I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
So all the human actors are live humans.
Everything else is CGIanimation.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
And that's where I'll get to.
On that, they did a good job of3D CGI models that I feel like
are true to the game.
Yep, looking realistic, likehyper-realistic, yeah, yeah,
yeah.
And it not look overly weirdyeah, they look decent.

(49:11):
Yeah, can I get into my issues?
Yes, and where they look decentyeah, can I get into my issues?
Yes.
And where I'm standing, thefirst trailer came out and you
could see green screen, likethere's a certain thing like
when you're filming on likegreen screen stages.
Yeah, there will be like agreen screen glow because you're
shining light.
Then you're putting a pictureon the green screen.

(49:33):
You're able to key out.
It's technical film editingstuff yeah, but sometimes if
you're not good with your edit, you can actually see the behind
the head and like the outline ofpeople where there's a glow of
green and that's because they'reon a green screen stage and
that was the editor doing a poorjob of taking out that glow.
That was in the first trailer.
Second trailer fixed it.

(49:56):
It looks decent.
It looks like a decent movie.
I'm good, I might enjoy thismovie.
Yeah, I'm back down now.
Oh really.
They're doing.
Something I don't like aboutmovies that do this, it's they
over-explain things to you asthe audience and they kind of
treat you stupid.

(50:17):
So pay attention next time youwatch a trailer for it.
Every time Jack Black doessomething, he has to call out
exactly what he's using and whathe's doing in it.
He's just like TNT here takethis diamond pickaxe.
He has to call out everythinghe does.
Tnt here take this diamondpickaxe.
He has to call out everythinghe does.

(50:37):
But if this movie is made, whois this movie made for?
Essentially?
Is it made for people who enjoyMinecraft and have loved it for
years, like me and you, yeah, yeah.
Is it made for kids, who alsoenjoy Minecraft for years and
wouldn't know what these thingsare?
Yeah.
Or is it made for people whodon't know what Minecraft is,
because that's what it feelslike they made it to have to

(50:58):
describe everything to youbecause you don't know what it
is if you don't play Minecraftyeah, but what?

Speaker 2 (51:04):
because he's talking to the other people that have
just gotten dropped in to theworld of Minecraft.

Speaker 1 (51:09):
So sure, but it feels almost like they could write
that in any way, where they'rediscovering these things like
you would as a new player.
Yeah, yeah, let me discover atree.
Oh, I got a wooden block andyou're seeing them experience
that, and they don't have tonarrate it.
Yeah yeah, but everythingMinecraft, like Jack Black or
Steve, is doing, he is having tocall out every little thing.

(51:30):
I'm hoping that that's just inthe trailer trailer and in the
movie it's not as bad.
It's just a lot of back-to-backbecause it's a trailer.

Speaker 2 (51:37):
Yeah, yeah, okay, all right.
Well, what do you think ofNacho Libre?
Do you like that movie?
Yes.
What about Napoleon Dynamite?
I love Napoleon Dynamite.

Speaker 1 (51:49):
Okay, because it's the same director All right,
this is going to be a fantasticmovie.
You got me back.
I'm back high.
I'm back on boy.
Are you serious, though?
For real, yeah.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
Yeah, I looked it up.
It's Jared Hess, nice, he's thedirector for the Minecraft
movie, and I did not realizethat until I was looking it up
today, because I was kind oflike, you know, I was kind of on
the line like I could be, okay,I don't have my hopes up though
, because there's I don't know,I just don't know.
And then I looked at it and Iwas like, okay, jared Hess is

(52:23):
directing it.
I think it'll be all right, Ithink it'll be all right, it'll
be all right.
So, but yeah, looking forwardto seeing that Comes out April
4th, so we're going to go see itand then we'll do a movie
review.

Speaker 1 (52:36):
Are we going to do another Saints that Watch, like
me, and you go and see it, yeah.
Or do you want to bring yourkids?
What do you want to do?

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Well, I guess I'll bring any kids that want to come
, but there's a chance theywon't, because Bigfoot does not
like movie theaters.
I think the sound, think it'sthe sound, I think the sound
it's too loud.
And then the fact that it'sjust a dark room and you have to
sit, still, he, well, it's notnecessarily that, I think it's
just that, because it's a darkroom and it's really loud, that

(53:03):
he just it wigs him out a littlebit.
Yeah.
So you know, park ranger mightwant to go see it.
And then dasher, just hedoesn't care about minecraft.
He's too young, yeah right,he's too busy playing real
Minecraft outside, right.
So, but yeah, we're definitelyit's going to be a Saints, a
Saints that that watch thatwatch, saints that watch, a

(53:24):
Saints that a Saints outing, aSaints outing.
All right, we're going to wrapthis up with our final segment.
So, tyler, this is yourtransition and we're gonna just,
we're gonna go down thenostalgia route let's do it,
okay.

Speaker 1 (53:38):
What's the name of this segment?
What do you give it a name?

Speaker 2 (53:40):
quick uh nostalgia I don't know, nostalgia.
I remember that.
Yeah, there you go.
All right, this is.
I really just have one questionmedia that you, you miss, media
that I miss.
What is some?
Media that, like you, consumedit, you loved it, you had a
great time with it, but they'renot making it anymore.

(54:01):
And you miss that.
They don't make it anymore.

Speaker 1 (54:04):
So this is a hard one , because every time you turn
around, they're remaking mediathat I miss, yeah, and they're
not doing a good job with it.
So I don't really wish much, very often, like I used to Like,
oh, I hope they make newepisodes of Animaniacs.
Yeah, I love that show, butwhen they remade Animaniacs it

(54:28):
was bad.
Yeah, it wasn't bad, it just itwas like everything.
Why does a children's show haveto be political?
Yeah, tiny tune adventures, yeah, did the same thing.
Uh, futurama.
Futurama is usually pretty good, so I just never bother going
back because I'm an adult whowants to do right with my life.

(54:49):
There.
You go praise the lord Now thatshow.
Of all the shows I watchedbeing younger that were quote
unquote adult shows, that's notthe worst one.
Yeah, yeah, king of the Hill.
They're coming back with that.
So I miss there's a lot ofmedia, but I think I miss.
I'll tell you what I miss.
Okay, okay, I did watch a lotof TV as a kid.
Okay, I miss the.

(55:10):
I did watch a lot of.
TV as a kid.
I miss the, and they took thisaway with streaming.
Streaming has killed the event.
Television watching, yeah, andwhat I mean by that.
We only see it really now withthe Super Bowl yeah, where
everybody's coming togetherwatching something together.

(55:30):
Yeah, whether you're at homealone, but you can go back and
talk about the event of it.
Yeah, they did do that a lotwith children's television as
well.
They had the big Saturday nightlive block party type thing,
yeah, on live TV where theywould have a host that would be,
you know, be talking to youbetween each show.
So you felt like you were there, you were part of something.

(55:52):
Three hours of new episodes ofyour favorite shows on cartoon
network nickelodeon uh,nickelodeon used to have like an
actual live from universalstudios where they the building
where they had the blue mangroup, where that's at now yeah
they used to do the nickelodeonum, what was it called?
I think it was like you picklive or something like that,

(56:13):
where you were voting live ofwhat show you wanted it to be
played next.
You would call in and themajority vote would be like all
right, now we're going to play anew episode of this show, so
you would be voting on whatshows would show next.
So I know that is a weirdtangent, but yeah, the events
that came along with livetelevision.

(56:33):
Yeah, have you ever gone backand watched like old commercials
from back in the day?
sometimes I've seen some of them, yeah like they have an entire
youtube channels where it's justlike watch this commercial.
Yeah, yeah, watch all these oldcommercials and they bring back
so much nostalgia for me.
Yeah, I don't know if it stillexists, but there is a live

(56:53):
stream where they would play oldcartoon network cartoons and
the old commercials thatcoincided with it.
So it's like watching old.
Where's you back, immerse youback into the 90s of watching tv
.
Okay, so I miss, I miss that.
I, yeah.
Just sitting down and havingthe television event.
Yeah, okay, whatever it may be.

(57:14):
You know, dvr has kind ofkilled the forcing you to have
to sit down to watch something.
Otherwise it would take monthsto go back and be able to see
whatever you missed.
Yeah, yeah, that is a pro thatyou own nowadays.
You're not going to miss anycontent.
Yeah, but it took awaysomething at the same time I
hear you yeah, for me okaysamurai jack.

(57:39):
I will say samurai jack was partof that showing episodes.
What I'm talking about, yeah itwas part of that friday night
cartoons, but yeah I enjoyed theshow.

Speaker 2 (57:48):
I enjoyed the fifth season.
You know it was a.
It was a, an upsetting one, buta good ending.
But I'm just upset that theyended it, you know.

Speaker 1 (57:58):
Well, it's better than what we had, which was
nothing.
We never got a closure back inthe day.

Speaker 2 (58:04):
And that's why they brought it back.
That's what I'm saying is, theybrought it back and I feel like
they could have revamped it,but it's okay.

Speaker 1 (58:13):
You wanted it to go a little bit longer than the 10
episodes that we got.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (58:17):
That is probably one of the last event shows I would
call.
That was when season five cameout and that was such a big deal
and everybody was watching thatback to back.
And then, when the seasonfinale came around, had a party
and everybody came around towatch a cartoon.
Yeah, that was so much fun.
Yeah, we had a party andeverybody came around to watch a
cartoon.
Yeah, that was so much fun.
Yeah, we had a good time doingthat.
I just remember that endinghappened and it's sad, yeah it

(58:38):
is.
It's a sad ending.
And everybody's sitting therejust like, still trying to take
it all in.
Yeah, and you get up and you go.
You look at everybody in theroom and you go you're dumb, you
suck, I'm going home, and youleft at my own house.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
Yeah, I said yeah, I called everybody names, stood up
, said I'm going home and Iwalked into my bedroom and shut
the door.
Uh, yeah, but anyways, that wasgood.
And then okay, I recentlystarted re-watching the old
disney Tarzan series and theBuzz Lightyear of Star Command,

(59:18):
and they both only have oneseason.

Speaker 1 (59:19):
Yeah, but they were good.
Yeah, they did that a lot inthe late 90s, early 2000s, where
every Disney movie had to getsome sort of animated television
show.
Yeah, had to get some sort ofanimated television show.

Speaker 2 (59:32):
Yeah, so yeah, the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
movie came out, and then theyreleased the TV show.

Speaker 1 (59:40):
No, Toy Story came out, not Lightyear, the movie
that recently come out.

Speaker 2 (59:44):
No, no.
The Toy Story 1 came out, yes,and then Buzz Lightyear of Star
Command, the cartoon Came out, came out the movie, and then,
right after that movie, theyreleased a TV series that
follows that.
There's no movie, I'm tellingyou right now.

Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Prove me wrong Okay.
There's no movie, we justwatched it.
I bet you money, it was justprobably like the first three
episodes, and then they put themall together as like a TV
special.
That's my guess.
I don't ever remember it's amovie.
I think it's three episodes.
Are you ready?
In the same way, I'll arguewith you.
Samurai Jack had an openingmovie, but it really was just

(01:00:20):
the first three episodes.
Are you ready?
Yes, I'm not arguing that thereisn't a long form episode, but
it wasn't made as a movie.
It was the first three episodes.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, the Adventure
Begins, okay.

Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
Is it just the?

Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
first three episodes Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
the Adventure Begins Okay Movie.
Is it just the first threeepisodes?
Buzz Lightyear of Star Commandthe Adventure Begins is a 2000
animated science fiction comedyfilm directed by Tad Stones, who
is also the producer, with MarkMcCorkle and Bob Schooley.
It is a spinoff of Pixar's ToyStory franchise and was released

(01:00:55):
on direct-to-video in theUnited States.
What else do you want me tokeep reading?

Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
I want you to find a name where it's the first three
episodes of the show.

Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
It's not though it's not.
It is one continuous storythroughout the entire film, and
it sets the groundwork for whothe bad guys are and who the
good guys are for the TV series.

Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
That follows afterwards.
So it was the first threeepisodes setting up the show,
and then they made, and thenthey continued.

Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
I don't know what you want me to tell you.
It came out on VHS so you couldbuy the VHS.

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
I'm giving you garbage, but a lot of times they
will do that as well.
No, I get it.
I get it.
I'm messing with you.
It is a it's quote unquote amovie, but it was probably more
than likely the first threeepisodes, because a movie
typically will have a higherbudget with a better animation
style.
I guarantee you that theanimation style matched from the
movie to the tv show, meaningthat they probably took as a

(01:01:53):
promotion to make the movie.
I mean for the show.
They made a quote unquote movie.
I know I'm sounding like a jerk, but no, no, I get it.
I remember it, I understand, Iget it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
I showed him a picture of the DVD for sale.

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
The VHS for sale.
I understand I'm going to haveto go back, Like this has to
come back at some point so thatwe can actually fully.

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
No, I agree with what you're saying, because the
Tarzan and Jane movie is threedifferent episodes from the show
and they just put it alltogether.
They just put it all togetherand presented it to you, but
they didn't take three differentepisodes from the TV series and
slap it together into a moviefor the Buzz Lightyear adventure

(01:02:38):
.

Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
They probably planned all of it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
It's like the launch for the Star Wars.

Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
I was going to bring that up the Clone Wars.
The Clone Wars, that movie, that was a theatrical release
with just the first threeepisodes telling one story to
lead and start the show.
Yeah, and it wasn't that good.
The show was way better thanthat movie.
Yeah, but it was like anintroduction uh movie.
They introduced ahsoka and allthese other characters that
would be reoccurring charactersin the clone wars tv show yeah,

(01:03:08):
all right.

Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
Well, yeah, that's.
That's most of what I've got.
I don't really have any othermedia that it's not coming out.
Because here's the thing One ofmy top favorite games is Age of
Empires, but they justrelaunched the Age of Mythology.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Hey, have you ever played Age of Mythology?
Said Bigfoot.
Every time I see him, yeahliterally.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
But I do like what they're doing though, because I
will give this to him.
They relaunched the Age ofMythology game.
They added a DLC to itautomatically.
So when you buy it, it's gotthis DLC pack in it and they're
releasing more DLC packs thatyou can buy to add to the game.
So it's adding more specialunits, more mythos and abilities

(01:03:55):
to the game.
So I do like that they're doingthat.
But that would have been one ofmy go-to old games to play that
I love to play, that you can'treally get ahold of anymore, but
now you can get ahold of it.

Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
So I know I'll speak for Ashley here For the longest
time.
The Sims 1 and 2 were verydifficult to play yeah, but they
recently re-released thosewhere they're easier to play
Okay.
I think that nostalgia sells.
So I think that we're gettingto a point where a lot of this
content where you could notwatch it is now watchable or

(01:04:28):
playable.
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
I know that if I got a GameCube and got Animal
Crossing, like tonight, my wifewould sit down and play it.
That's one of the few thingsthat she's like.
I loved doing this as a kid, yeah, but I don't have any of
that.

Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
so there you go, kind of miss physical media.
We're getting away from it andthat kind of takes away
something, yeah, of that old wayof man.
Man, why can't I play this game?
Oh, because the disc isscratched.
I know that sounds weird cominglike from like why would I want
that kind of situation?
Yeah, but it's just like ittakes away from something or

(01:05:07):
having to blow dust out of acartridge to load it into your
console, did you know?
uh, fun fact, that never reallydid anything, I know.
But we, you blew on it and thenput it in, and then you know it
didn't work.
You took it out, blew it in,blew in the, in the, the nes.
Yeah, all you're doing wasconstantly setting the seating,

(01:05:30):
the cartridge, until it finallyworked.
You're just slow, like if youjust slowly pulled it out, put
it back in or constantly put itin, took it out, eventually it
would work.
Yeah, yeah, so blowing in itdid nothing, that was just
something somebody come up with.
It's actually technically worsebecause you're probably
spitting on it.
Well, we didn't know that.
Yeah, no, it's you know, butbut neither did everybody who

(01:05:51):
had an nes.
Yeah, everybody did that.
That was just the thing do,even though all you were doing
was really just putting it backin and eventually it worked.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, dude.
But like, yeah, you don't havethat anymore, people don't do
that anymore.
They don't have to fidget witha cartridge to make it work in
their console.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Or, yeah, rewind a vhs tape all these things that
like are pointless now andreally don't need to go back.
It's great that we are at apoint we don't need that anymore
, but there is a feeling ofnostalgia that comes with those
things.
Yeah, the the quality on vhs isgarbage of a 4k disc or

(01:06:32):
streaming is way better.
Yeah, but it's still fun.
Yeah, it's still fun to plop ina VHS and sit there on an old
TV sometimes.
Yep, but only for me and you.
If you did that for your kids, they'd probably be like what is?

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
this, yeah, Dude, but just thinking about it like
growing up there was a personwho part of their job
description was to sit andrewind.
Watched vhs tapes at thatblockbuster yeah, or hollywood
video.
I was gonna say hollywood video, that was our, that was your
one local thing, hollywood videowell, there's one.

Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
Is it because that it was the one that was near here?

Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
yeah, because blockbuster was further away.
It was over there, like towardsmarietta there was one in hiram
.

Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
Oh, there was one in Hiram.
Oh, there was one in Hiram.
There was a Hollywood video inHiram as well.

Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
Yeah, we just had Hollywood video literally right
around the corner.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
Yeah, I know what you're talking about.
It's a gym now.

Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
Yeah, no, it's a wing spot now.

Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
Is it really now?

Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
You're talking about in the public parking lot.

Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
It was a gym, you're right, and now it's a wing spot.

Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
The one in Hiram is now.
The building got tore down, yeah, and then it's now a El
Polo Loco, I think El Pollo Loco, yeah, it went from being a
blockbuster to a movie stop, yeah, and that's where I went
and sold all my DVDs, yeah, andI'm glad I did, because they're

(01:07:52):
worthless now, I think Iremember going there with you,
yeah, you helped me and I boughtone expensive Blu-ray which was
Watchmen.

Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
Yeah, okay, I remember now yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
But it was.
Those are worthless and I'mglad I got rid of them.
People are like I'm going tokeep these until I die because
you know my deathbed, I watchthese.
Yeah kind of attitude.
It's like yeah, no, uh, when itcomes to quality, I I am.
Vhs is fun, dvds are discs areannoying.

(01:08:23):
To have to switch out, I'drather streaming.
I just want streaming, though,to get to a point where it makes
discs obsolete.
With quality, yeah, I'll behappy.
That's why I like still havingphysical media, just because the
quality on them are better.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Yeah yeah, dude, I I'm still upset that we didn't
keep any of our disney blackdiamond vhs's like knowing what
I know.
Now, like you know, not all ofthem are great value, but
certain ones that have certaincontent that's not in any other
release.
It's like like lilo and stitch, and well they'd.

Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
Uh, I don't think that they had a black diamond
vhs for well, I was just usingmore, using the excuse that,
like now, they censor movies ondisney plus in like oh, yeah,
they changed.

Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
Yeah, yeah, they changed small details.

Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
Like in the original movie, lilo is hiding from her
sister In the dryer, in thedryer, and now it's like A hutch
.
Well, it's like a little, alittle cabinet, a little cabinet
.
No, it's like a pizza box.

Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
Oh no, no, it's a little, yeah, it's a little
hutch, and she puts over thefront a pizza box.
Yeah yeah.
That's what it is.
Yeah, okay, I I don't know howI feel about this, but they
talking about leland stitch.
They're doing the re-release,the live action release.
The director's called deanflesher camp and I don't know
any of this stuff that he's doneoh, he did.

Speaker 1 (01:09:46):
What's that one with the show?
What's marcel the show that'sactually a really good movie.
It is yeah, okay, he knows howto make a movie, so, okay, he
knows how to make one, at leastbased off that other one he did,
marcel.
Well, it'll be all right, we'llbe good.
Yeah, okay, I watched that on aplane.
It's like a knick-knack shelland interacting, trying to find

(01:10:08):
his parents, and interactingwith people.
It's like a mockumentary almostkind of style thing and it
makes you feel for this littleplastic toy.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
So it's good, it's well done yeah, I'm trying to
remember if it's the right guyfor how to train your dragon,
because that's the same guy whodid the original lilo and stitch
, if I remember correctly let'ssee director?
yeah, dean de blois, blouseblois, the lucy blues, anyways.

(01:10:38):
Yeah, he directed the originallilo and stitch and the original
how to train your dragon moviesand he is doing the live action
release that's coming out thisyear.
Boy, we eating good this year.
Yeah, the animated live actionanimated movies that are coming
out this year have the potentialto be good, so that's exciting,
all right.

(01:10:59):
Well, that's all I've got.
That's all I have.
So there you go, that's allwe've got, and that's all you've
got.

Speaker 1 (01:11:07):
I don't have it.
I feel like there's like a goodjoke in there somewhere,
somewhere in there.

Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
But anyways, if you liked this episode, make sure to
share it with your friends.
If you didn't, and you thoughtit was awful, make sure to leave
a— Share it with your enemies.
A rage comment.
Yeah, share it with yourenemies, all right.
Well, christ is Lord and thekingdom is now.

Speaker 1 (01:11:26):
We are the saints that serve.
We prayed, we prayed, we gotconnected.

Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
We're here, shake a hand.
We got connected.
We're here, shake a hand, hug aneck, kiss a forehead, a wife.
Yeah kiss a wife, shake a hand, slap a Democrat no.

Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
It doesn't have to be your Democrat, but it does have
to be your wife.

Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Yeah.

New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
