Today I'm kicking off somethingnew that I'm really excited
about, a series I'm callingexpansion blockers.
Now, what do I mean by that?

(01:06):
Well, if you've been inbusiness for a while, maybe
you're at the multi-six figureor seven-figure mark and you
already know what it takes tobuild and to grow.
You've done it.
Your business is working.
You're not a beginner anymore.
But what I see, and what I'vepersonally experienced, is that
even when things look good onpaper, there are these invisible

(01:29):
friction points that sneak in.
They're very subtle.
They don't necessarily looklike failure.
In fact, on the outside,everything might look fine.
But on the inside, you knowsomething is off.
That's what I mean by the termexpansion blockers.
They're not obvious problems.

(01:49):
They're not something you'deven say out loud, but they're
there, keeping you from steppinginto your next season of
growth.
And here is a very importantpiece.
These blockers don't mean thatthere's something wrong with
what you're doing.
They don't mean that you'vetaken a wrong turn.
They actually mean that you'reready.

(02:12):
You are being invited into anew way of expanding.
Over the next several weeks,I'll be unpacking one expansion
blocker at a time so you cannotice them in your own life and
begin to shift them.
And today we're going to startwith one that I know so many

people will relate to (02:31):
pivot paralysis.
So let's talk about what pivotparalysis actually is.
It's that moment when you knowthat you need to adapt.
In this case, in these times,perhaps to AI, to shifting by
your psychology, to changes inyour market.

(02:53):
But if you don't know where toplace your next big bet, you can
feel blocked.
You see all theseopportunities, they all look
exciting, they all also lookurgent.
And instead of moving forward,you freeze.
It's not that you are lazy byany stretch, if anything, you're

(03:14):
probably doing a lot more thanyou need to be doing.
It's not that you don't care.
In fact, usually pivotparalysis shows up because you
care so much.
You want to get it right.
You don't want to waste time,you don't want to waste energy
or resources on the wrong pivot.
You've put so much effort intogetting to where you are.

(03:37):
And so what happens?
Well, you research more, youjoin more masterclasses, you
have more conversations withother business owners and other
coaches and other leaders ofmovements, and you open up more
tabs on your browser.
You fill up your notebook withideas.
But in the end, nothingactually gets executed because

(03:59):
you're looking at all of thesedifferent things while you are
operating your business.
It feels like buzzing energy,but with your wheels spinning in
the mud.
You are moving, you're takingsome actions, but you're really
not getting anywhere.
I want to take you back to whenI first entered the online
space.

(04:19):
It was like this new universehad completely opened up to me.
I suddenly saw so many pathsthat I could take.
Some people were leaningheavily into marketing,
something that I had done forquite a while.
I was actually in directresponse marketing back in the
day.
Others in sales.
And others were deep in thewellness space, teaching health

(04:43):
and self-care.
Others were writing books, andstill others were building
corporate partnerships.
But here's what happened.
I took a look at all of themand thought, I could do that.
I could do that too.
Ooh, I could do that.
I genuinely loved every singlething I saw, all of it.

(05:04):
I had years of experience insales and I loved it.
I still love sales.
I loved writing.
Hello.
I love songwriting too.
It just comes naturally.
And I was diving into socialmedia marketing at the time, and
it clicked for me right away,even though it was new.
And of course, wellness was myfoundation.

(05:24):
I'd already been in that worldfor years.
So every path I looked at, Ithought, yeah, that could be me.
I could bring so much valuethere.

But here's what happened: because I saw so many (05:34):
undefined
possibilities, I got stuck.
Instead of choosing something,I kept circling all the options.
I told myself that I wasresearching, I was learning, and
that is true.
I was doing those things.
I was also networking.
And I love networking.

(05:54):
And yeah, some of that was truetoo.
But the real truth was I wasn'tmaking the moves that I really
wanted to be making.
In my body, I felt this buzzingenergy.
I was lit up.
I was full of ideas, but I wasstuck at the same time.
I was anxious, but I washopeful.

(06:17):
Some days I was so incrediblyexcited about where things could
go.
Then other days, the overwhelmwas so loud that I had to just
step away, get out into nature,and leave it all behind me for
the day.
And behind all of this was thisconstant voice.
Time is ticking, Sheila.

(06:37):
You should have figured thisout already.
So, what did I do?
I tried to logic my way out ofthis.
I researched further, in fact,quite endlessly.
I do love researching, even inmy spare time.
I signed up for trainings.
I had so many conversations.
And while, yes, I picked upsome very helpful insights and

(07:00):
I'm grateful for everything Ilearned.
The reality was that I wasn'tmoving forward.
I was running in circles.
Thankfully, I had a businessrunning already in the wellness
space.
So that was great, but I wasn'tmaking the traction that I
really wanted to.
And I wasn't being verygracious with myself about it
either.

(07:20):
I felt so frustrated, like Iwas wasting my time.
The turning point came when Iunplugged.
I went on vacation.
It was a family vacation.
And when I was on that trip, Ispent time with people outside
of my online business bubble,outside of the wellness bubble

(07:43):
and sales and marketing.
I listened to their stories.
I went deep into askingquestions about like why they
did what they were doing intheir life and hearing about
their family, hearing what gotthem to this place, how they
made their choices, the reasonsfor choosing the careers and
their life paths, what theirpassions were.
These are things I love to do.
If you know me, we and we hangout.

(08:04):
This is where we go.
We go deep fast.
And as I listened, I started tosee my own story reflected
back.
It was so beautiful.
I wasn't even trying to getclear on that vacation.
I literally just wanted to stepaway from it all and to clear
my head.

(08:24):
But I began to realize what ifthe very thing that felt
unclear, the thing no one elsewas quite doing in the way I
envisioned was actually thething that I was meant to lean
into.
When I stepped back, I realizedthat my deepest pull was in the

(08:47):
wellness space, specifically inself-care for business.
And now this is very importantwhat I did though.
When I chose, I made a choice,right?
Everything unlocked.
And that is the key.
Everything unlocked.
I felt it, the noise quieted,the opportunities that weren't

(09:09):
aligned faded into thebackground.
And then, as is known tohappen, the right people started
showing up because I wasfinally moving with clarity.
That choice didn't mean Iabandoned all the other parts of
me.
Of course, being in business,you're going to use sales,

(09:30):
you're going to be writing, andyou're going to be marketing.
I'm doing all of those things,and I have continued to.
But I let wellness be thefoundation at that time.
And that gave me direction.
So if you're in pivot paralysisright now, I want you to hear
this.
You do not have to doeverything.

(09:51):
You don't have to chase everyopportunity.
You only need to choose what istrue for you right now.
You know how I talk about yourversion of success being the
most important one?
Well, that's only going tohappen when you focus on your
most important and aligned workin the world.

(10:12):
Now I've seen this happen in somany of my clients too.
And as I'm talking about this,I would love to hear how this is
feeling?
Is this something that isfeeling familiar to you with
what you've experienced, orperhaps someone you know?
Because it is very, verycommon.
So one woman came into myprogram with so much energy for

(10:34):
her new idea.
And it was exciting.
It was different from hercorporate background.
And she was so lit up.
But because it was new, it wasalso uncomfortable, right?
We've been there.
The new things, as exciting asthey are, when we have to put
boots to the ground and moveforward.
Ooh, it feels uncomfortable.

(10:55):
She started talking to friendsand family, people who were not
entrepreneurs, who did notunderstand the online space and
really what she had in her mindto create.
And their doubts got to her.
They said things like, Are yousure?
That seems really differentfrom what you currently do.

(11:16):
Are you really prepared forthat?
Are you, are you, you know,qualified enough for that?
Isn't that risky?
So, what did she do?
She started diving into freemaster classes and following
other coaches online.
And each one sounded so good.
Each one had a compellingreason to pivot.

(11:37):
And so she did.
She pivoted, and then shepivoted again.
And soon she was frozen.
Sounds a lot like what I wentthrough, except she did it
several times in a row.
She wasn't moving forward inany direction because every
option felt urgent andimportant.

(11:58):
So she'd just start to makesome headway, and then she'd see
something else that caught hereye that she just had to learn
about and apply immediately.
And then it would shifteverything that she was doing
her messaging, the actual thingsshe was offering.
She was constantly going backto square one.
So finally, one day, shereached out to me incredibly

(12:19):
frustrated and ready to throw inthe towel all together on this
entrepreneurial thing.
She's like, My goodness, Ithought that I worked so hard
and being corporate was thehardest thing that working for
myself, I'd have more freedom.
And she felt like she had justcreated an anchor for herself

(12:40):
instead of a rising star.
So when we finally had aheart-to-heart, I asked her
straight.
I said, Do you actually wantthis business?
Or would you rather just goback to corporate?
Because guess what?
Corporate can be fantastic.
If you love what you do, andhey, business, corporate,

(13:02):
wherever you are, like there'snothing that doesn't have some
element of things maybe we don'treally feel like doing or
really 100% enjoy.
That's just life.
But if the majority of itlights you up, hey, go for it.
So when I asked her thatquestion, she said, No, I want
this.
I really, really want this.
So then I asked her, of the twodirections you've been spinning

(13:26):
between, because it was reallyboiled down to two different
things she had pivoted into.
Which one feels truest to you?
And she realized it was thevery first one.
The one she started with, theone that had traction before she
even abandoned it, the one thatlit her up, the one that she

(13:48):
left corporate for, her innerknowing knew it knew the truth.
Her aha moment was realizingnot every pivot is hers to make.
And once she owned that, wesimplified.
I mean, certainly we had alittle bit of a an experience of

(14:09):
going through the regret shewas feeling, working through
those emotions, letting her feelthem, and also helping her
release them, knowing thatregardless of where she found
herself, she could look and pullthe silver linings out of the
whole experience.
All of the things she learned.
She did learn quite a bit.
Even if she wasn't going to beimplementing everything

(14:32):
immediately, it would come inhandy.
And frankly, it was somethingthat actually made her a lot
stronger and more committed tomaking this work.
So, as I mentioned, wesimplified how she would move
forward.
We removed the noise and sheunsubscribed to a lot of things
that were just not reallyserving her, but they were

(14:52):
really distracting her.
As much as she appreciated theleadership of the people who
were, who were teaching her, sheknew where she could go and she
found some beautiful voicesthat she could reconnect with
later.
She just knew she needed tofocus, really focus on building
her own momentum again for herbusiness.
And that is what pivotparalysis looks like in action.

(15:17):
These two stories I justshared, it is such a powerful
example because you can see theideas weren't bad.
They were actually all reallygood ideas, but they weren't all
hers to carry, at least not allat the same time.
She could start with one, makeit work, move it forward.
And then if she felt she wantedto branch off, she could later

(15:39):
on, but once she had proof ofconcept from her first idea.
So how do you move throughpivot paralysis?
Well, this is where the legacyframework comes in.
Instead of asking what'strending, what's urgent, you
start asking, does this alignwith my five to 10 year legacy?

(16:00):
So, so, so powerful when youtake a zoom out look at your
life that way and your business.
There's questions you can askyourself, like, what
opportunities have I beencircling without acting on them?
Like you may have some rightnow, and you're like, okay, what
is happening?
What are the ones that I reallywant to do that I'm lit up

(16:23):
about?
But there's something that'skeeping me from that.
And what is that?
Only you're going to know theanswer to that.
Another question you can ask iswhich of these truly support my
long-term vision?
Like, which are justdistractions pulling me off
course?
And if you could make only onemove this quarter, which one
would feel the most aligned whenyou think about long-term?

(16:46):
I invite you to take a moment,think about that, journal about
it.
You will be so surprised howclear the answer becomes when
you shift your lens from urgencyto legacy.
Because what I've found is thatnot every pivot is yours or
mine to make.
And when you think about that,like as you hear that, it can

(17:07):
feel like a huge relief.
This too, you don't have tocarry it all.
You don't have to carry it all.
In fact, how do you know whatis yours to carry?
Your legacy and your plan, yourfuture desires will decide for
you.
Pivot paralysis is just oneexpansion blocker that shows up

(17:29):
once you've already createdsuccess.
And the good news is you don'thave to solve every blocker at
once.
My goodness, it takes a lot ofenergy just to get up and move
through to the work on yourheart every day, right?
Usually one or two blockers arekey.
And you'll find when you seethem clearly, everything else

(17:51):
begins to shift.
Because not all of the blockersmay be ones you're dealing with
right now, but guess what?
You might deal with some lateron because our lives are
seasonal and cyclical and theyjust go and they flow.
