Sheila (00:02):
In the last year, I've had to make a number of big
decisions, ones that didn't justimpact me, but my family, my
clients and the future of mywork, and what I've learned is
this you can't think your wayinto clarity, but you can move
your way there.
In this episode, I'm sharingthe exact practice that's helped

(00:22):
me keep momentum even whilestill deciding, because the
weight you're feeling it's notalways about doing too much.
It's often about holding toomany decisions in limbo, and the
fastest way to lighten yourload is simpler than you think.
Hi, welcome to the podcast.
I'm Sheila Botello, and Ibelieve true success is built

(00:45):
from the inside out.
This mini-sode is designed tohelp you live into what lights
you up.
This week, and depending on whenyou're listening to this, we've
just passed Labor Day here inCanada, which always feels like
a punctuation mark.
It's like this reminder of work, rest and all the seasons that

(01:07):
we cycle through in our lives,in our businesses and even in
the way we carry ourresponsibilities.
And if you're like most of thepeople in my world, this turn of
season might come with a veryspecific kind of heaviness not
the heaviness of like hustleexactly, but the weight of

(01:28):
thinking about everything, likethe decisions you've put off,
thinking about what you could bedoing, thinking about how to
get it all right, and in thelast few episodes we've been
talking about hustle versussustainable work and how easy it
is to miss your actual lifewhen you're busy building a

(01:49):
business that supports it.
And today I want to bring thatconversation home, because I
find the heaviest thing that weall can be carrying is often not
really our to-do list.
It can be our indecision, solet's talk about that.
There's the visible work, wherewe're putting together offers

(02:12):
and drumming up business, coaching the team, showing up on
the socials and making thedelivery of what it is that
you're offering to your clients.
But then there's the invisibleload.
We don't always talk about themental tabs that we keep open,
those questions we ask ourselveslike should I shift my offer

(02:33):
positioning?
We're in a new season now.
Do I keep going with thismastermind or do I restructure
it?
Is this partnership stillaligned or am I just afraid of
letting go?
Should I be launching now orshould I wait until after the
holiday season, untileverybody's back in the swing,
and a big one?
Should I be hiring more forthis next season or should I

(02:56):
hold off.
These are the quiet questionsbehind the curtain of the show
that we're running, and ifyou're anything like me, they
can feel heavy in ways that arehard to explain to most people.
You see, over the last year I'vebeen in the midst of several
major decisions, and theyhaven't just involved me.

(03:16):
I mean, they often will involveother people, right when we
have these decisions that we'remaking, like they've involved my
family, my clients, the visionfor what's next in my work and
life.
And I'll be honest, some daysit felt like I was living in a
bit of a fog, not because Ididn't want to make any specific

(03:38):
moves, but because I was sowrapped up in getting it correct
that I wanted to maybe delaytaking the next steps until I
realized something that reallywas a reminder that I needed to
tell myself once again thatchanged everything, and that is
that clarity does not alwayscome first.

(03:58):
Sometimes it arrives once youget moving.
So I developed a practicenothing fancy, something super
simple because I already hadenough things going on in my
mind, and I've come to call thismoving while deciding.
And what it looks like is Isketch the current possibilities

(04:19):
out in front of me withouttrying to force an outcome, so I
can see them and see thoseoptions.
And then I check in with myvalues, my energy and the
non-negotiables I know that Ineed to honor, and that's why
having your own list ofnon-negotiables, your own

(04:40):
personal mission statement forhow you show up in your life and
how you operate your business,is so important.
Then I take a small, alignedstep, without knowing exactly
how it will play out Now.
It can look different dependingon the decision right.
Sometimes it's just sending theemail, just putting the feelish

(05:00):
out there, sometimes it'sbooking the meeting and
sometimes it's just saying nobefore I feel 100% ready.
And you know what happens.
Every single time I do this, Iget more data, I get the
feedback and the clarity that Ineed to know what to do next,

(05:22):
because I've made the space forit.
I've taken the step, but I'vecreated the space so that I can
actually then take a look atthat data.
It's just like when we leavethe house every single morning.
We don't have all the answers.
We have a sense of direction, aloose plan, a map for maybe
what we want our day to looklike, but we also know we're

(05:43):
going to have to adjust alongthe way, because life doesn't
move in straight lines andthere's so many other people we
are bumping into throughout theday where our decisions impact
them and their actions impact us.
When we hold off on decisions, waiting for certainty.
One thing I have definitelyfound over time is we delay our

(06:06):
next season of growth, but whenwe allow movement to be part of
the decision-making, we becomeco-creators with clarity.
One recent decision that I madewas to let go of a very
successful part of my work, something I'd spent years
building, and on paper it reallymade sense to keep it.

(06:29):
The numbers were good, thingswere growing, there was
direction and some really coolthings coming down the line and
I had some sense of control.
But energetically it wascosting me more than it was
giving and when I let it go justone decision, one decision I

(06:51):
didn't just create space in mycalendar, I created space in my
mind and body, and then theother ideas and plans and parts
of my business I was working oncreated more flow and it felt
like I was more connected to myfamily and my clients and really
where I'm headed as well, because sometimes the next level

(07:15):
doesn't require more doing.
It actually requires maybereleasing something, taking
something off of your altar ofattention and allowing space to
open up for everything else tocome in.
So if you're feeling heavy rightnow, please know you're not

(07:35):
broken.
You're simply holding too muchin limbo.
You don't need to overhaul yourbusiness.
You don't need like a five-stepfunnel today.
You just need to release onething that's been keeping you
stuck in pause mode.
So pick that one thing and movewith it, and the clarity will
meet you there eventually.
And on Thursday I'll be sharinghow to know when it's time to

(08:00):
pivot your business model andthe signs to look for before the
burnout hits.
Thanks for listening.
Check out all of the differentthings going on over here in the
show notes that you may be ableto benefit from, and I will see
you on the next episode.
Thank you.
