What if the growth you’re chasing actually arrives when you stop chasing it?

In this episode of The Sheila Botelho Show, I share the personal story of how creating space earlier this year led to healing, clarity, and unexpected opportunities. From daily walks that became sacred processing time to the clients who mirror my own journey of releasing over-functioning, this conversation explores the emotional and spiritual layers of stillness.

You’ll hear why trusting the quiet, even when it feels uncertain, can be the most productive decision you ever make. And how honoring your body, intuition, and inner rhythm can open the doorway to your next aligned season.

Sheila (00:01):
You don't realize how loud it's been until you step
into the quiet.
Earlier this year, I made adecision to create space because
I could feel something insidewhispering that I couldn't hear
over all the noise.
I didn't fully know what wouldfill that space, and honestly,
that was the point.
But what I discovered when Islowed down was clarity,
alignment, and a deeper trust ofwhere life was guiding me next.

(00:24):
Hi, welcome to the podcast.
I'm Sheila Botelho, and Ibelieve true success is built
from the inside out.
Today I'm sharing a story thatis still unfolding for me that
began when I realized that Ineeded to create space in my
life.
And I'm not talking about spaceto create another strategy or
system or another plan tosqueeze more productivity out of

(00:47):
my day.
I truly just wanted to createspace.
So if you've ever felt the pullbetween doing and being, this
conversation is one that I hopeyou find some value in.
There was this morning earlierthis year when I woke up and my
first thought was, I'm tired andthe day hasn't even started

(01:10):
yet.
This actually reminded me ofwhen I had newborns.
That feeling of, oh boy, maybeI get to nap later.
The difference was there was nospace for napping at this point
in my life.
And while I have felt myselfedging toward burnout in the
past, that's not what this was, because fortunately I've put

(01:32):
into place beautiful practicesto help me never get to that
place.
This was more like my body andmy spirit were quietly raising
their hand saying, hello,remember us.
And that's the thing aboutteaching self-care for business.
You may know the tools, you mayknow the patterns really well

(01:56):
and create like incredibleframeworks and structures and
help people get great results.
And still, life finds a way totest your devotion to what you
teach.
You may find this in your ownwork.
It's so interesting.
It's like my hairdresser, who Ilove so much, she is like,
please, to anyone in her family, please do not ask me to cut

(02:16):
your hair.
Right?
It's it's like you want to havea separation from it at times.
But then sometimes you forgetthat, oh, maybe I'm not always
gonna get this right becausehey, we're human.
So there's so much grace for usto have on ourselves when those
things happen.
So for me, this started as awhisper.

(02:38):
You know, those little nudgeswhen you just you're in the
middle of doing something andyou're like, ooh, it's like a
little soul hit.
Well, for me, this would happenduring my morning walks.
And they were saying thingslike, you don't need to be
everywhere and you don't need toprove anything.
But the more that I ignoredthem, the louder they became.

(03:01):
And I don't know if this hashappened to you before, but soon
it wasn't just the littlenudges and the little voices in
my mind.
My body decided to join theconversation.
Now, this wasn't something thatI had created for myself.
It was something that I hadbeen exposed to, which was mold.
I've mentioned on some previousepisodes that I uncovered some

(03:23):
mold in my body.
Uh, I think it was June of thisyear.
I actually had the testingdone.
And being at the age that I'mat, being 53, um, I realized,
well, you know, hormones areshifting.
This is all part of it, right?
So I thought, oh, brain fog,all this kind of stuff.
It's just part of it.
I'll figure it out.

(03:44):
But what I didn't realize wasmold sensitivity can actually
really mimic a lot of thingsthat you would experience with
traditional, just menopausaltype of symptoms.
And so my body was trying tosend me a series of memos that I
no longer could delete.
Because for years I'd beenpushing through thinking, this

(04:05):
is just midlife.
This is just what 50 somethingfeels like.
But my intuition knew better.
And I realized that exhaustionwasn't something that I could
look at as a weakness formyself.
It truly was information.
My body was telling me I neededto pay close attention to

(04:26):
something.
And I love the book When theBody Keeps the Score.
Go look it up.
It's incredible.
And then, of course, there'sGabor Mate's book, When the Body
Says No.
It's so interesting, theconnection with our body and our
mind and our intuition.
Very, very important.
So those walks that I startedto take, of course, I've always

(04:48):
loved to take my walks, but Ihave I've approached them
differently.
I started walking as a ritual.
It wasn't power walking orchecking my step count.
In fact, I've done that a fewtimes.
I'm like, okay, good.
I know how many minutes I needto walk to get a certain number.
If I have a step counter on me,I get a little obsessive about
it and I start celebrating.
Wow, I did this many steps, andthen I have to do more.

(05:10):
And then I'm constantlychecking, and it just, it's not
good for my mental health.
So I just stopped doing that.
And instead, I'm like, I go byamount of time.
And sometimes I move faster andsometimes I move slower, and
it's all good.
So in this case, these walks, this ritual, it became walking
to listen.
Listen to what was coming up inmy intuition and also listening

(05:32):
to my body.
Like, how was it feeling?
That's how our body talks tous.
What am I feeling?
Do I feel pain anywhere?
Do I feel expansivenesssomewhere?
Do I feel really flexible rightnow?
Do I feel tired?
What's happening?
And those walks became my CEOsoul meetings.
I called them my CEO soulwalks, really, but they were

(05:53):
meetings with myself.
Sometimes I'd cry.
Sometimes I'd pray.
Actually, every day I'd pray.
Because there's alwayssomething to pray for.
Sometimes I just breathe andlet my thoughts wander far
enough to find some truth again.
Because this is the humanexperience.
And if we're not occasionallycrying, if we're not allowing
ourselves to breathe, like, arewe really living?

(06:15):
Somehow along the line, westarted to look at ourselves as
really super productive robots.
And we are not.
We are human.
So the sidewalk became myjournal.
And I noticed how once I sloweddown enough to hear the
whispers, ideas began landing.

(06:37):
Small ones that were reallyclear and grounded.
They were not the franticshould thoughts that came from
comparison or urgency, like whatwas happening up until that
point in my walks, but they wereideas that felt alive to me.
Stillness is the space wherethe aligned ideas that are

(06:58):
waiting for you in your mindland.
And it's funny, the more Itrusted those walks, the more
synchronicities started showingup.
I'd see, of course, it allstarts with angel numbers.
I'd see repeating numbers.
I'd hear song lyrics that feltlike answers or sometimes
literal lines in a song that Iwould have just said to myself.

(07:20):
And then the song came on theradio if I happened to be
driving.
Clients would reach out at theexact right moment.
And some people might call thatcoincidence.
And yes, I like to look forpatterns, but I really call it
connection.
I call it serendipity.
And the connection of this kindwill only reveal itself when

(07:42):
you're available to receive itand when you have space to
receive it.
So creating space was notglamorous, I must say.
It looked like unsubscribing, which I never like doing because
the people who I'm subscribedto on email lists, I absolutely
truly, genuinely enjoy and love.
But I realized I needed tounsubscribe for a season.

(08:02):
So I kept my list of things toresubscribe to once I come
through this.
And it looked like saying no toinvitations that didn't align
with me.
It also looked like longerstretches of quiet in my
calendar.
And at first, I thought I'dfeel lazy and I thought I'd feel
guilty.
But instead, you know whathappened?
I felt so peaceful.

(08:22):
Like my nervous system finallytook a big exhale.
And physically, I startedfeeling lighter.
My joints weren't as stiff, mythoughts weren't as sticky, my
skin looked brighter, I wassleeping better.
And yes, I had finally in thatspace, guess what I did?
I actually reached out to mynaturopath and said, Hey, let's

(08:43):
do all the tests.
Let's see what's going on.
That's when I discovered themold.
So isn't it interesting whathappens?
Would I have had the time?
My calendar was so full to beable to do all of these tests
and go to do blood work, whichI, you know, I don't love doing,
but at times if there's anecessity to do it, I wouldn't
have had the space.
But emotionally, it was likesomeone clearing cleaned the

(09:05):
windows.
Um, you know, if you're lookingout of a window and it's all
got fingerprints on it, it'slike someone cleaned those
windows.
And they were the windows, though, in between me and my
intuition and in relation to mybusiness.
The part that surprised me wasthat I didn't lose momentum.
I actually became moremagnetic.
And opportunities I'd beenchasing for months suddenly

(09:29):
appeared without effort.
Because this has happened timeand time again for me.
And I wish I would remember itmore often, but I've noticed
that space creates awareness andawareness attracts alignment.
Because the awareness is I'maware of what I want.
I'm clear on it.
And when you're clear on it,you become magnetic for those

(09:51):
aligned opportunities.
That's like it's pretty simple.
It seems like a principle ofthe universe to me, because I've
seen it happen time and again.
And I see the same thinghappening with my clients.
They decide to create space.
Maybe they stop offeringsomething that's run its course,
or they take a few weeks off oftheir content calendar.
And at first they feel free, and then suddenly they feel

(10:15):
completely panicked.
They start to wonder, oh mygosh, should I just you lose my
edge?
I lost all these views, thingsare going down in the algorithm.
And what most of them do nextis what I used to do.
They try to fill that space.
And here's what they fill itwith they start researching what
everyone else is doing.
Have you been there?

(10:35):
Do you do this?
They scroll endlessly, theysign up for new courses, and
they start tinkering with theiroffers.
Like they don't just do onething, they do all of the
things.
It's like they are literallydoing a complete makeover of
their entire business model.
Tell me, how much energy do youthink that takes when you

(10:56):
should be really resting?
If you've decided to take thisspace, your body's telling you,
maybe even your business istelling you, take a little space
to rest.
And yet, especially in thistime we find ourselves in in the
world, it is such a humanreflex to just rush in and
refill what has been clearedout.

(11:16):
But here is what I have noticedtime and again: that void that
you feel in your calendar, inyour busyness, it's part of the
process.
And it is, of course, supposedto feel uncomfortable because
it's new.
If you've been in the onlinespace for as long as I have, if

(11:39):
you've been in it for fiveyears, ten years, like more than
that, you know what I'm talkingabout.
It is relentless, it neverstops.
There's always something new, always something to learn, uh, a
new way of doing a new trend.
And you see everyone hopping onall the new trends.
Oh, this is the music to use.
Oh, this is the dance to use.
And it's like, oh, should I bedoing all of the things?
And well, really, can we do allof the things?

(12:01):
We can try, but is it really inour best interest?
And most importantly, if youare in a service-based business,
is it in the best interest ofyour clients?
What they need is a solid baseto be able to help them with the
various challenges and growthopportunities that are in their

(12:24):
life.
That void being part of theprocess.
Yeah, that new discomfort.
I just want you to know what Iwill tell clients.
I'm going to tell you, you arenot lost.
You are just unnumbed becausethat is what happens when we are
on this treadmill of thecontent creation and the trends

(12:45):
and all the things.
And yes, we have to have ourSOPs and all those things.
Like, yeah, systems andstructure, so, so important.
That is what helps a businessthrive.
However, being in constantmotion like that, you start to
become numb to it.
It's kind of like getting inyour car and leaving wherever
you're parked.
And then all of a sudden youpark wherever you your

(13:07):
destination was.
And you're like, whoa, how didI get here?
It's that automatic.
Because when you're used toconstant motion, being still can
feel like confusion.
But I want to remind you, you're not feeling confusion
truly.
What you are doing and yourbody, your mind, everything is
doing, it is recalibrating.

(13:29):
You are in recalibration mode.
And when I coach women throughthis, we focus on embodied space
holding rather than mentalproblem solving.
Yes, we talk about the mentalstuff first.
Like, okay, well, what are youthinking?
Where do you want to go?
All that.
Yes, we get that vision andeverything, which is what my
vision map is all about.
And then, of course, we moveinto the legacy framework.

(13:51):
But in there, as all of thatstuff is becoming clear, we are
doing embodied space holding.
We are walking.
I'm inviting people to groundin nature, to sleep more than
you've ever slept, to be innature longer, to do some gentle

(14:12):
movement, to journal voicenote.
These are simple sensory thingsthat remind your body that it's
safe to rest, because the mindcannot integrate what the body
doesn't feel safe to hold.
Let me say that again.
The mind cannot integrate whatthe body doesn't feel safe to

(14:34):
hold.
Because in that pause, likewhen you're in pause mode,
something starts to happen.
Your body starts to rememberwhat peace feels like.
And hopefully at some point inyour life, you have felt peace.
Not everyone had a peacefulchildhood.
So I want to just say if that,if that's you, I hold my hold

(14:54):
you my heart.
For me personally, I had I hadsome struggles in my childhood.
My father had mental healthstuff going on, but I do
remember really long pockets ofpeace.
I spent a lot of time innature.
And when things were good, theyfelt really good.
So hopefully you've had you canrecall a time where you felt
true peace in your life.
And your body will rememberthat when you give it space to.

(15:18):
And then what also happens isyour creative brain, like the
next phase is your creativebrain starts whispering to you
again.
And the ideas that come throughare not random ideas, they're
truly there for you and they'remore refined than if you were
just looking at someone else'sstuff and comparing and saying,
Oh, yeah, that's what that looksgood.
I'll do what they're doing.
And I'm not saying never lookaround.

(15:39):
Obviously, we do ourcomparative research.
You know, we do that with ourteam.
We we look at it, it's veryimportant.
But you got to start withyourself, right?
And you begin to notice who youactually miss and who you
don't.
When you have the space fromall of the connection you've
had, you start to see this.
What you actually want tocreate becomes clear.

(16:00):
And what you were only creatingbecause you thought you should
create also becomes clear.
That is the alchemy of space.
Stillness is not emptiness.
Stillness is potency waiting tobe claimed.
And when you allow that spaceto exist without rushing to fill

(16:23):
it, you begin to notice thatlife keeps moving even when you
do not.
The world keeps spinning.
I mean, yes, thank God, theworld keeps spinning.
And when it's spinning, you canrest and still be in motion
with life.
I really want you to think ofyourself like a tree.
Okay, I just love my trees.
I know I talk about them a lot.
My maple tree is beautifulgolden yellow.
My oak tree is like a burntorange, moving into my favorite

(16:46):
color, copper.
Right now, it'll be the lastone to lose its leaves.
And guess what?
They're gonna lose theirleaves.
They're gonna lose like what iskind of like the hair on a
tree, you know, our golden crownof hair of hair that we love as
women.
Um, it they're losing theirleaves.
They're splendor.
It's falling to the earth.
And then they're gonna bedormant, except for the root

(17:07):
structure, obviously, throughthe winter for a whole three
months.
Are they stressing out?
I mean, I don't know.
I saw a comedian joking aboutleaves falling, and it was
hilarious.
Like, we're gonna make it,we're gonna stay on it.
Oh no, their friend flew awayinto the wind, right?
So let's kind of take a uh takea piece uh of in advice from
nature and let's be like treesand not be afraid to rest.

(17:30):
I mean, they just stand there.
There's still a little bitgoing on in the root system.
I'm not saying we all just likeshut everything down over the
winter.
I'm just saying, like, we cantake space, we can choose our
season to rest, whether thatseason is a few days or a week
or a month or longer.
Now, here's the beautifultwist.
When you have truly honoredthat quiet space, re-entry feels

(17:55):
different.
You no longer want to fillevery slot in your calendar.
You become selective, intuitive, and strategic even
without trying.
You move from forcingeverything to being in a state
of flow.
And that is what happened forme.
When we started preparing forour move, everything unfolded

(18:16):
with so much ease from findingthe right space to the timing to
the people who showed up tohelp.
Oh my goodness, the helpers.
One in particular, my dear, dear friend, who's very modest,
but was so incredibly helpfuland continues to be.
And you know what happened too?
My health mirrored it.
I started sleeping even better.
My body started feeling strongagain, my mind clearer than

(18:39):
ever.
And my energy, much to thechagrin of my husband, because
I'm very, very energetic whenI'm energetic.

Speaker (18:46):
And so it's like, hey, welcome home.
How are you doing?
You know, it's like, oh boy, itcan be a lot.

Sheila (18:51):
But it turned, it returned in waves for me that
felt really grounded, though.
It was not frantic energy, itwas excited, joyful, joyful life
energy.
So I'm here to say spacecreates order, and order in your
life creates freedom.
Here's something I've noticedafter coaching hundreds of women
through this, and men too, actually, maybe not hundreds of

(19:14):
men, but a good number of men.
We repeat the cycle of fullnessbecause it's familiar.
And even people like us, youand I, are conditioned to equate
worth with output.
We'd love to think that we'vetotally left that at the curb,
but it's still part of our DNA.
And releasing that takes sometime.
We say we want peace, but weschedule over it.

(19:36):
We crave flow, but we stillchase it.
And every few months, lifegives us another invitation to
stop spinning.
It's like a gentle nudge fromyour higher self saying, hey,
remember who you are when you'renot performing.
And sometimes we listen, anddoesn't that feel good?
And sometimes we don't.
Either way, the less lessonthat we learn or are meant to

(20:02):
learn is just waiting patientlyuntil we do.
Your next season does notarrive when you push harder, it
arrives when you stop spinningout.
So, how do you start trustingthose whispers when everything
around you says keep going?
What you do is you practicenoticing.
Notice the moments your bodysays no.

(20:22):
Notice when you feel thatslight pull toward rest, but you
override it.
And notice the tension in yourjaw when you're pretending to be
just fine.
Trust begins in noticing.
The more you acknowledge thewhisper, the louder it gets.
The louder it gets, the lessyou'll need to search for

(20:43):
clarity because clarity willstart finding you.
That is how alignment works.
It's not something that shouts.
It truly is an invitation.
It invites you in.
And you cannot hear it if yourlife is filled with noise.
If you're standing at the edgeof the season of slowing down or
letting go, here's what I wantyou to know.

(21:03):
It takes as long as it takes.
Your timeline is not a delay,it is your design, specifically
for you.
Do not compare your rhythm toanyone else's highlight reel.
Every season serves a purpose, even the slow ones, even the
silent ones, even the ones thatmake no logical sense.
When I lost people I loved, mysister, my parents from 2013 to

(21:30):
2020, grief taught me patiencein a way business never could.
There is no rushing grief.
My goodness, it still comes up,right?
When we love what we love andwe love who we love, the grief
is there.
It's part of it.
There's also no rushing growth.
Both require surrender.
So if you find yourself in thatin-between, not knowing what's

(21:51):
next, don't try to fix it.
Let yourself feel it and let itbe your teacher.
If you allow space long enough, here's what you'll start to
notice.
You'll sleep deeply.
You'll crave simplicity, you'llcare less about metrics and
more about meaning, and you'llstart creating from inspiration

(22:12):
instead of obligation.
And when that happens, yourbusiness won't shrink.
It will evolve because clientsfeel your energy.
They can sense when you'regrounded.
They can sense also when you'reforcing.
When you show up rested, youbecome magnetic.
That's the paradox of creatingin this space.
Doing less becomes the catalystfor more impact.

(22:34):
How is this landing for you?
If this resonates for you, thiswhole conversation, and if
you're craving structure thathonors your seasons instead of
fighting them, that is exactlywhat we explore in the vision
map and the legacy framework.
These are designed to give youspecific frameworks that keep

(22:55):
you steady during pivots, duringexpansion, and everything in
between, so you can scalewithout losing yourself.
You'll learn how to listen toyour body as much as your
business metrics.
You'll redefine productivity ina way that feels peaceful and
powerful at the same time.
And if that sounds like thenext step that you've been
sensing, you'll find all thedetails in the show notes.

(23:16):
If there's one thing toremember, it's this stillness
isn't the opposite of success.
It is the foundation of it.
Creating space doesn't pull youoff your path, it actually
clears it for you.
And when you honor the whispersin your soul, life has a way of
meeting you with the nextaligned step right on time.

(23:37):
Thank you for listening.
I'm wishing you all the best, and I look forward to seeing you
on another episode.
