(00:01):
To night. Michael Brown joins mehere, the former FEMA director of talk
show host Michael Brown. Brownie,no, Brownie, You're doing a heck
of a job the Weekend with MichaelBrown. Hey, welcome to the Weekend
with Michael Brown. Glad to haveyou with me. It is Memorial Day
Weekend twenty twenty four. We justin the last hour listen to Ronald Reagan
speak about the dedication of the UnknownSoldier from Vietnam at Arlington National Cemetery back

(00:25):
in nineteen eighty two. And inthe next hour we'll listen to Ronald Reagan
deliver the Memorial Day speech in Mayof nineteen eighty six. Because I do
want to just remind everybody is youknow, you start to grill the burghers
and the rocks and the hot dogs, and you're traveling and everything else,
and it's the summer, summer vacationtime. You know, we live,

(00:53):
We live in a country that waytoo often. And I think this is
been building for some time now thatwe take so much for granted because for
so long we've had it so well. And I would probably to some degree

(01:14):
excoriate conservatives and libertarians for not payingattention to what the progressive left was doing
in academia, in our culture,Hollywood, wherever it might be, as
they began to kind of indoctrinate thoseaspects of our society with their progressive Marxist

(01:38):
culture. So this great country whereeverybody is able, you know, I
forget what Triple A says the numberof people traveling this weekend, but just
think about the ability to get ina car, to board a train,
to board an airplane, to geton a bus, to go as far

(02:04):
or as near as you want to, no internal passports, Nobody questions where
you're going, Nobody says you cango here or you can't go there.
We will, we will have aplethora of choices and an abundance of choices
of places to go, things todo, things to eat, concerts,

(02:29):
movies, outdoor activities, whatever. It is, just this abundance of freedom.
And then we do we do allof those things in such a way
that now I know that inflation ishitting everybody really hard right now, and
I know that many people are veryinsecure about their employment, and I know

(02:53):
that the economy is really a trialand a tribulation for me people to deal
with right now. But even withall those trials and tribulations of economic problems,
we still have in a society whereyou can express yourself. You can
you can purchase what you can affordwhat you choose. You can go where

(03:16):
you want to, You can doanything. You can quit your one job
for another job. You can chooseto live here, you can choose to
live there. You can you know, if we're going to talk about EV's
in a minute. If you wantto drive an EV, go ahead,
drive an EV. If you wantto buy drive a big honkin gas gallet

(03:36):
Gesler, you can do that. You want to live in a large home,
small home, you can. Imean, it's just choice after choice
after choice, and all that's broughtto us by a constitution, by a
free market, by a idea oflimited government intrusion in our lives. Now,
don't spere your coffee out when Isay that that's still a tenet of

(04:00):
American society, even though you andI may look at it and say,
holy crap, batman, you havereally kind of this rate of that concept,
because now you look at government andeverywhere you turn, they're somehow involved
in your life, and they're limitingyour choices, and they're now trying to

(04:20):
do all of those things. Well, that is that is a result of
decades starting in late sixties. Imean, let's just say the sixties.
Starting in the sixties, all theway through twenty twenty four, Progressive Democrat
policies, Socialism, Marxism, communism, all of this began just infiltrating every

(04:46):
aspect of our society. And we'vekind of reached a boiling point. And
that boiling point is and those ofus who understand that it's boiling are jumping
out of the water, and we'rejumping out of the water and we're saying
stop, enough's enough. And Ithink part of that is seen in the
resurgence of Donald Trump. Donald Trumpgoes to the Bronx. Now we can

(05:08):
question, you know, can hecarry the Bronx. Can he carry that
congressional district when it comes election timein November? I don't know. But
he's there and whether the crowd wastwenty five hundred or twenty five thousand or
two hundred and fifty thousand, itdoesn't make any difference to me. He's
campaigning in a place where Republicans otherthan Liselda, who ran for governor of

(05:32):
New York where Republicans are feared togo. My old boss, George is
George W. Bush didn't go campaignin the Bronx. Mett Romney never campaigned
in the Bronx. John McCain didn'tcampaign in the Bronx because they knew it
was written off. But Donald Trumpgoes to the Bronx and he addresses them

(05:55):
where they are. Donald Trump tookaim in that appearance at the radical left
pro crime policies that has reduced hishometown of New York City to a shell
of its former self. And therally was, it was diverse, it

(06:17):
was well attended. It was andI don't care honestly whether people well,
you know, there there was athere was a small counter protest. I
saw some video somewhere of the counterprotests. Yeah, there are a couple
of dozen people counter protesting, andthey were they were making themselves comfortable in
the shade trees wherever this event wastaking place. You know, Trump said

(06:39):
throughout my life quote, I've seenNew York through good times and bad,
and he has. He talked aboutboom times, market crashes, terrorist attacks,
he talked about everything. But hesays this, but I've never seen
it quite like this, and whathe's about. What I'm about to read
to you of quote from his presentto his speech in the Bronx, is

(07:04):
as we as as we hold thesetwo things in our heads at the same
our brains, at the same time, that it's a Memorial Day weekend,
it's the start of the summer vacationseason, that we have all these choices,
that it's the greatest nation on earth, that all these wonderful things that
you and I are able to go. Do you know some of you are

(07:26):
commenting on the fact that you knowI wasn't. I wasn't on air on
Friday for my weekday program. Iwasn't. I took I took the day
off because as soon as I finishedThursday, Boom through the through the Lienburger's
in the car, we drove tothe undisclosed location in New Mexico, and
I had the rest of Thursday.I had all day Friday. I had

(07:46):
this morning, and then Boom steppedinto my little studio at the undisclosed location,
and I'm coming back on there tospeak to you. And then when
I finished today, We're gonna doa few things, maybe go up to
the Vietnam memorial. Who knows whatwe'll do today, but we'll just enjoy
this angry to the crystal Mountains ofnorthern New Mexico. And we'll be able

(08:11):
to do that because of a freemarket, because of capitalism, because of
your support of all my programming, because we live in a wonderful society.
At the same time that you andI are able to go do those things.
Donald Trump went to the Bronx andspoke to the people in the Bronx

(08:37):
and addressed them where they were, and by that I mean acknowledging that where
they're living and the way they're livingright now pretty much sucks. Again,
let's go back to what he saidquote, but I've never seen it quite
like this. We have. Andlet me just say before I finish the

(08:58):
quote, wherever you live, unlessyou live in some rural community that is
isolated from the all of the illsof modern urban life, which even in
rural areas, you're not necessarily guaranteedthat immunity. I want you to think

(09:22):
about how what he says to thepeople in the Bronx may as well apply
to the people on the South sideof Chicago, in Atlanta, in Dallas,
or Fort Worth, or Houston,Harris County, Texas, Saint Louis,
Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, San Francisco, Denver, Phoenix,

(09:45):
Downtown Phoenix, you name it,Seattle. The urban areas of this
nation are in decay, and DonaldTrump addresses it right on quote, but
I've never seen it quite like this. We have filthy encampments of drugged out
homeless people. We have lunatics killinginnocent bystanders by pushing them onto the railroad

(10:11):
tracks for sport. Our subways aresqualid and unsafe. The ceiling tiles are
falling down and they look worse thana third world country. The medians of
our highways are crumbling. Our sidewalksare littered with garbage, bottles and trash,
but worse of all, the discardedneedles from people that so desperately are

(10:31):
in need of help. And wehave mobs of migrants fighting our police officers
and giving America the middle finger. But he continued, we are not going
to let this continue. Together,we are going to make New York City
great again, and simultaneously, weare going to make America great again.

(10:52):
And of course that leads off withchants of USA, USA, and we
love Trump and then pledging to supportlaw enforcement and to be tough on crime.
Trump earns all the rally attendees toremember that black, Hispanic and Asian
people need this protection and safety morethan anyone else. You know. Stances

(11:16):
like that have seen the former presidentearn the support of thousands of predominantly Hispanic
owned bodegas, which has suffered asa result of criminal friendly policies cashless bail,
all of which Trump eavily criticizes. The former president was already within ten

(11:41):
points of Joe Biden in New York, traditionally a Democratic stronghold. What's going
to happen? Trump said, throughoutmy life, I've seen New York through
good times and bad through book, and I'll tell you what he says next.
Weekend with Michael Brown, don't forgetText the word Mike or Michael to

(12:46):
comment or your question with the wordMike or the word Michael either one.
So Trump goes to the Bronx andsays this, Throughout my life, I've
seen New York through good times andbad, through boom times and crime waves,
through market crashes and terrorists attacks. But I've never seen it quite like

(13:07):
this. We have filthy encampments ofdrugged out homeless people living in our places
that we've spent so much time withchildren where they used to play. We
have lunatics killing innocent bystanders by pushingthem onto the railroad tracks for sport,

(13:28):
our shop. It's it's sad.It's a sad thing. Don't worry.
It gets positive. Don't worry.Did get so positive? Remember we're going
to win. We're all winners. We're gonna win so big. We're gonna
make it bigger and better than everbefore. Remember that, so don't worry.

(13:50):
By the time the other six orseven thousand people getting it, be
very positive. Our subways are squalidand unsafe. The ceiling ailes are falling
down and they look worse than athird world country. The medians of our
highways are crumbling. Our sidewalks arelittered with garbage, bottles and trash,

(14:11):
but worse of all, the discardedneedles from people that so desperately are in
need of help. And we havemobs of migrants fighting our police officers and
giving America the little finger. Butwe are not going to let this continue.
We are not going to abandon ourhope and our pride. The city

(14:35):
has given us so much, andnow it is time that we are going
to give it back. Together,we are going to make New York City
great again, and simultaneously, weare going to make America great again.

(15:03):
Now, once you stop and thinkabout this from them, I want you
compare and contrast that speech in theBronx of all places. Yeah, things
are pretty bad, but you knowwhat we're gonna do. We're gonna turn
this place around. We're gonna makethe Bronx great again. We're gonna make
New York great again. We're gonnamake America great again. And then he

(15:24):
goes on in the speech to talkabout his vision for the country. So
while he has an audience in frontof him that is suffering from all of
the economic doldens, we suffer from, suffering from crime, suffering from all
of the homelessness, all of theillegal immigration that's just infecting all of New

(15:48):
York City, he goes on totalk about, but it doesn't have to
be this way, and that whatwe're going to do is we're going to
go back to our policies of limitedgovernment, and we're going to close the
borders, and we're going to actuallyknow enforce the criminal laws. We're going
to do all these things that aregoing to allow all of us to live

(16:11):
in freedom, to live in individualliberty, to pursue our dreams, to
do all these things of positive speechand uplifting speech, and how an you
think about Joe Biden. Joe Bidengoes to Morehouse College in Atlanta, one
of the historically black colleges and universitiesin HBCU, and he tells the graduates,

(16:33):
Now, would you stop and thinkabout this? These are He tells
these black graduates that America hates themand if they cannot succeed, and that
racism will prevent them from doing allthe things that they want to do.
And if I want one of thoseblack students sitting there, I would think

(16:57):
to myself, wait a minute.I graduated from high school. I had
good enough grades that I got intothis college, and now I'm graduating with
a degree, and I'm going togo out into the world and try to
be a productive citizen. And you'retelling me that America hates me, and
you're telling me that I can't accomplishanything. That is the vision of Joe

(17:21):
Biden versus the vision of Donald Trump. And I think if that becomes the
focus of the election, of thisdoom and gloom and everything is racist and
you can't do anything anymore, andso government's here to help you versus you
know, it's almost you know, what Trump was doing in the Bronx was

(17:41):
almost Kennedy esque. And I don'tmean Bobby Kennedy Junior. I mean John
F. Kennedy. Ask not whatyour country can do for you, but
what you can do for your country, and that America is still We'll put
a man on the moon, leadershipversus dire negativity. If that's the elect

(18:04):
If that is the election, Trumpwins. Tonight, Michael Brown joins me
here, the former FEMA director oftalk show host Michael Brown. Brownie,
No, Brownie, You're doing aheck of a job the Weekend with Michael
Brown. Hey, welcome back theWeekend with Michael Brown. Glad to have
you with me. Appreciate you tuningin. And it is Memorial Day weekend,

(18:25):
twenty twenty four, and so wewill in the next hour we'll hear

(19:12):
Brown. The miss Institute is well, let before I tell you about
it, let me just make sureyou understand where I'm coming from. I
often reference the Miss Institute on economicpolicies, economic issues, and I appreciate

(19:34):
the organization. I respect the organization. But this past week they did something
really bizarre. Now it is theMice's Institute is named after a Jewish intellectual
and a Jewish economist by the nameof Lugwan Vaughan Miss. But and he
was a great intellect, great greateconomist. If you want to understand and

(20:00):
Austrian economics, you understand you understandfree markets, the Misis Institute is a
great place to learn that. Butthe institute has decided to draw this very
bizarre lin in sand and I don'tI don't understand why, under no circumstances
is the institute going to allow anybodythat is associated with them to take a

(20:26):
How did I how would I phrasethis, it will not allow anyone to
take a non hostile position on Israel. So I guess maybe that's putting it
in the if let me put itin a more positive frame. If you
support Israel and you advocate for Israel, then you can't be a part of

(20:48):
the institute. Now, help meunderstand how that makes any sense for an
institution that is that is founded andnamed after a Jewish intellectual and a Jewish
Jewish economist. So, of allthe issues going on in the world right
now, both economic, political, cultural, whatever issues you want to take
about, condemning Israel is seemingly anecessary component. Why why I am?

(21:18):
I am? I? Why notbumfuzzled? Because I think I know,
I think I know the source ofthis. We have, as I say,
since the nineteen sixties, we haveallowed the progressive left and their brand
of anti Semitism to permeate almost allof our institutions. But again, of

(21:44):
all the issues on the planet, condemning Israel is somehow a necessary component of
being associated with an American economics thinktank. Earlier in the week, I
I discovered that the Institute had dismissedWalter Block. That name may not mean

(22:07):
anything to you. Walter Block isa renowned an accomplished scholar. He's probably
considered one of the most influential thinkersin the history of Austrian economics. He's
an eighty two year old fart thathas spent his entire life advancing the principles

(22:29):
that Mice's scholars and quite frankly, that Luke Mes's advocated, and that they
all claim to stand for. Alot of the original founders and the current
intellectuals within the Austrian school, suchas the late Murray Rothbert, considered him
both a longtime friend and a colleague. Earlier this week, after hearing Block

(22:55):
discuss the news on a podcast,I started digging around to see if I
can find any news stories about it. And yes, indeed, he wasn't
fired for the act of supporting Israelfrom a institute that is based on Austrian
economics found founded and based upon Lukevon Mess, a Jewish intellectual and a

(23:18):
Jewish scholar. He was dismissed asa senior fellow without even a statement from
the Mess Institute. Okay, theprofessor of Economics se at Loyola University and
senior fellow at the mississ Institute heearned his PhD in economics. Set sorry,
I am no longer a senior fellowat the Missus Institute. I used

(23:40):
to be, but I was kickedout because of my views on Israel.
When were you kicked out? Maybea week ago? Seriously? Wow?
Interesting? Okay, Well that's goingto be another topic to discuss, Walter.
If you don't want to answer myquestion, then don't. But what
about people like Tom Woods and R. Robert Murphy. They're not exactly your

(24:03):
friends, but at least half friends, and you have such long term relationships
with them. You're spoken with themon their podcasts, especially Tom Woods many
times before. Are they okay withyou being demoted? And if you don't
want to answer that, then don'tbecause you might not want to pull them
into this thing. I am happyto answer. I have not discussed this

(24:25):
with Bob Murphy. He's a longtime friend of mine. We haven't discussed
it. No, I don't knowthat anyone else really knows that I've been
demoted from my senior fellowship at theMINCNSE toute So sorry, I mean,
who demoted you? A person hadto be the one demoting you. There

(24:48):
wasn't any I. Yet I guessit was Ton Delrenzo. And Ton de
Lorenzo is the president who missing Stute, and he I thought was a friend
of mine for thirty five years. And he could have written a note saying,
look, we hate to do this, but the donors don't like it.
He could have said something, buthe was very acerbic. All he

(25:12):
wrote was Ali Center's letter. IAll he said is because of her differences
on war, you're no longer asenior fellow. I mean, this is
a going so basically they're claiming thatyou're now a warmonger, that you love
war. That's what he's really saying. Right, I can let you listen

(25:32):
to the red but you get thegist. Since October seventh, when Hamas
committed all of those atrocities in Israel, it's as if MYSUS, which is
led by Thomas de Lorenzo. He'sa Neo Confederate author, he's a former
economics professor. They just flipped theswitch. Now MYSUS has published dozens of

(25:55):
articles that are now kind of antiisrael in and kind of condemning Israel's action
in Gaza. They used hysterical languageto relentlessly target the world's loan Jewish state
as somehow a uniquely evil force. This is mind boggling to me that an

(26:18):
institute that I have got so muchrespect for, that has taught me so
much about economics would decide that,oh, Walter Block, because as a
Jew, you actually support what Israel'strying to do to secure its sovereignty,
to protect itself from further terrorist attacks, We're gonna fire you. They would

(26:45):
be almost like after nine to elevenme saying that, you know, I
happen to support, you know, going after beIN Lauden, and I hope
we find and kill Ben Lauden.Well, we've got to fire you because
we can't have anybody that supports, you know, the of Bin Lauden.
Well, that was exactly what thegovernment was going to go do. So

(27:07):
here's Block. He's a non interventionist, but he views the conflict between Israel
and Hamas very differently. Apparently fromthe leadership of Mice's, Block has taken
to understanding that Israel's retaliatory actions againstHamas are both noble and a righteous act
of self defense. Is not whatwe did in hunting down. Now set

(27:33):
aside, what you listen closely thisis nuanced. Set aside what you think
about either the strategy or the lackthereof in the Afghan war, or set
aside for a moment, the strategyor the lack thereof, or even the
reason for going into Iraq. Doyou not support if Ben Lauden was the

(27:55):
mastermind behind nine to eleven? Doyou not support the hunting down and apture
or killing of Osama bin Laden?I mean, I think most Americans would
agree with that. Irrespectful, whatthing you think about the war? So
four days after the October seventh attack, Block published an article that I read

(28:15):
in the Wall Street Journal. Yougot to go look it up and read
it, the moral duty to destroyHamas. And I do believe there is
a moral duty to destroy Hamas, just as I believe there is a moral
duty to destroy Communism, to destroyFascism, to destroy Nazism. I believe

(28:36):
that there is a moral duty todo so. And I believe that there
is a moral duty. If thisnation were attacked, if there would be
a moral duty for us to destroyour attackers. But why can you not
say that if you're a Jew?Since he published that article on the Wall
Street Journal, he published additional inother publications making a libertarian case for Israelis

(29:07):
for the Israeli operations in both orin Gaza against Hamas. You know,
when I was taken aback by thisstory, I started digging around, and
I realized that a lot of MesusMice's events are now sponsored by by Iranian
national name Josef Khaley Audiamod. Heserves on the board at MISS, but

(29:33):
it's unclear whether or not I can'tforget whether he played a role in their
hard turned against Israel. But howis it that we've gotten to this point
in the country where supporting Israel intheir efforts to destroy a terrorist organization that
is hell been on the destruction.Let's be honest. Hamas wants to kill

(29:59):
all the Jews, they want toeradicate Judaism from the earth, and they
want to destroy Israel, just asthe Uranian and the Molas do. Do
they not have a moral obligation todefend their citizens against that kind of attack?
You know, I'm gonna follow thisissue because this is an example of

(30:21):
how anti Semitism and Israel's defense ofitself has set loose or unleashed this anti
Semitism in the most unlikely places,or as I might say, in almost
every place, and it's really despicable. It's the Weekend of Michael Brown.

(30:42):
Don't forget text the word Micha orMichael. Use this number three three one
zero three. Tell me anything,Ask me anything, start your question,
your comment with the word Mike orMichael. Hang tight, I'll be right
back. Stay tuned. You're listeningto the Weekend with Michael Brown. Hey,

(31:03):
welcome back to the Weekend with MichaelBrian, glad to have you with
me. Coming up in the nexthour, we're going to talk about Associate
Justice of the Supreme Court Samuel Alito, who is apparently flying a flag that
has the cabal all upset. It'shilarious. We're gonna have a little flag
history in the next hour. Rightnow, I want to go over to
the east coast to a town calledWestbrook, Maine. Westbrook, Maye.

(31:27):
I don't know I've ever been toWestbrook, Maine. I'd have to look
it up. They're now thinking abouta new ordinance that would permit private homes,
churches, community centers all now toserve as homeless shelters. Now most
of their housing assistant applicants are recentillegal aliens, and the proposal that they

(31:49):
are now trying to push on thecity council comes after the city's welfare program
official acknowledge that well somewhere between ninetyand ninety five percent of our welfare recipients
are illegal aliens, which he refersto as new new maners, new mayners,

(32:12):
like you know what what what they'recalling on new something, newcomers,
they were calling on newcomers. Well, in Maine, they're going to call
them new maners. At least that'swhat the open border activists are calling them.
So the director of the Westbrook's Directorof Planning and Code Enforcement with somebody
by the name of Jenny Franceski, indicated that this new ordinance would would enable

(32:36):
single family homes and churches to becomeemergency shelters if community needs dictate. Now,
it doesn't mandate that homeowners churches househomeless individuals, but allows them to
register as official homeless shelters voluntarily. So a resident in Westbrook by the name

(32:57):
of Martin Mallia Malie argues that theproposal could lead to an eleven point four
percent tax increase because this resident isfearful that the ordinance might also attract more
homeless illegal aliens, further taxing thegeneral assistance program and their municipal resources,

(33:22):
which we see that happening everywhere. In Denver. They're cuming back on the
police force. Why oh, becausewe're creating a new office of We're gonna
have therapists and other social workers. We don't need cops, We need therapists
and social workers. You know,if I, if I, if I'm

(33:44):
at my studio in Denver and Ihave to dial nine one one because someone's
trying to break into the studio, someone's attacking me, or there's you know,
some issue, you know, there'ssome crime going on. Do I
want a cop or do I wanta therapist? Or so I think I
want to cop. But the likelihoodof that in Denver happening is becoming more

(34:05):
and more remote. And I thinkin Westbrook, Maine, this resident may
be onto something because if you startoffering churches and private homes and wrec centers
and any other facility as a homelessshelter, well, that's like putting a
bird feeder out. That's like youknow, putting you know, like here

(34:29):
at the undisclosed location. If Igo buy a bunch of corn, big
bags of corn, and pour itout on the ground. Well, the
deer and the bear and everybody elseare going to be attracted to it.
Well, if you offer private homesand community shelters and everything else, if
you start offering more and more ofthose, well naturally is going to attract

(34:52):
more igal aliens and more homeless people. The Director General of Assistance in Westbrook
at an earlier council meeting revealed thatthe majority of General Assistant applicants are what
they and they keep calling them newmaners. You know what really drives me
up the wall is this complete bastardizationof language, over and over and over.

(35:19):
If you go to the United StatesCode, someone who enters this country
unlawfully is referred to and is designatedas an illegal alien. But if you
call somebody that's an illegal alien anewcomer, Oh, that's like George Carlin's
you know language bit that he doesabout the language difference between football and baseball.

(35:44):
Well, they're not an illegal alien. They're a newcomer and Maine,
they're a new maner. That DirectorGeneral of Assistance also says that many of
these illegal aliens require basic living instructionslike how to use a thermostae, and
they're obviously unfamiliar with local standards. How's this work out? Well, it's
