Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm excited to welcome you back.
If you are new, we've beendoing this for five seasons,
over 150 episodes.
Some of them were so long ago Ihad to take them down off the
podcast.
But we are here and we are back, and we're doing this on
multiple platforms, so welcome.
I am really excited to welcomeyou all.

(00:24):
Welcome to our Sugar Tribe.
It is a place where we connectand learn and grow together as
beauty professionals, when we'reall either passionate about
body sugaring or you're reallyexcited to learn about it, no
matter where you are.
I have interviewed the best ofthe best in this industry on
this show and even outside ofthis industry to bring you

(00:47):
different ideas to help boostyour skincare business.
Now, this little episode is alittle more personal and raw
than usual, starting outespecially, but I promise it
will leave you inspired.
Today, I'm sharing how sugardidn't just save my life once,
but twice, and how it's given methe strength and the tools to

(01:08):
rebuild and thrive and helpothers do the same.
Then we're going to do a littledifferent something here.
We're going to switch over tohow I start the year strong and
how I challenge you to do thesame.
So grab your favorite drink orget your dog out on that walk.
I highly recommend youre-listen if you're somewhere
where you can't take notes, butthen settle in and let's get to

(01:32):
something sweet.
Okay, so let's start with howSugar Saved my Life, which
sounds like a pretty dramatictitle, but really, truly, it's
the truth.
So this will be the quick CliffNotes version for those of you
that are new to the show.

(01:52):
If you want to hear the fullepisodes, I will link those in
the show notes for you.
But let me take you back to 2009.
I had just gone through adivorce.
2009.
I had just gone through adivorce.
I sold my beloved day spa inLake Tahoe and I moved to a new
city as a single mom with twolittle boys, and starting over

(02:15):
was not easy, and there werenights that I stared at the
ceiling wondering if I'd have togo back to my corporate job
just to make ends meet.
But here's the thing when lifegets hard, sometimes opportunity
like that little ball of lemon, sugar and water shows up in
unexpected places, and for me,that opportunity was sugaring.

(02:36):
I was terrible at first forthose of you who have known me
for a really long time, it's nojoke but I stuck with it and I
practiced and improved long time.
It's no joke, but I stuck withit and I practiced and improved
and slowly, my students and myclients started to take notice
and, one by one, my clientsstarted to ditch their wax
appointments and fall in lovewith sugaring.
And it transformed my businessand before I knew it, I was

(03:00):
fully booked and thriving, and Iam proud to say that that was
15 years ago.
And now those little boys areoff to college and I am in my
sugar salon with staff and it'sgoing really, really well, all
because of lemon, sugar andwater.
That's it.
And now sugar water and pre andpost biotics but that's for

(03:21):
another episode.
So sugaring didn't just save mybusiness.
It became.
It gave me a strong tool in mytool belt.
It really gave me purpose, which I never expected, and a
way to connect with my clientsthat I never expected either.
And that's when I realized thatthis wasn't just about hair

(03:42):
removal.
It was about creating acommunity for them because the
people in my local community alllove to talk about sugar mamas
but a community for otherestheticians to learn and grow.
And in 2014, which is 11 yearsago now, is when I started Love
to Sugar.
So, all again, from justwanting to set myself apart and

(04:07):
learning sugaring was the waythat I was able to do that.
So thank you sugar.
Now the second sugar save wasfast forward to 2000, about 22.
This was a little bit afterCOVID and life threw me another
curve ball that I never sawcoming.
So I can't believe.

(04:27):
Like I said, this is our 11thyear and I've been pouring my
heart and soul into love tosugar, teaching sugaring,
building the sugar tribecommunity.
But behind the scenes, mypersonal life took a major
setback and without diving intodetails out of respect for my
kids, I'll just say this my lifeas I knew it completely changed

(04:50):
and there were moments when theheartbreak, just it just felt
insurmountable and honestly Iwondered if I'd ever feel whole
again.
But once again I am so thankfulthat I have sugaring on the
menu because it came to myrescue and because I had built a
strong business with sugar.

(05:10):
That is what really kept thatfoundation alive.
And because I had built astrong, sustainable business
with sugaring as that foundation, I could actually step back
when I needed to heal my heart, because my team was ready, my
systems were in place and theskills that I've honed over the
years reminded me that, nomatter where life takes me, I

(05:34):
always have the tools to rebuild, because I've been really been
planning and keeping everythingwith systems this entire last
few years.
So sugaring not only gave methe financial security but the
freedom to then, because thisshop was running thank you to my
staff I was able to prioritizehealing my heart and healing my

(05:55):
family, and I'm really, reallyproud of that.
So now that we've reflected onhow sugaring has transformed my
life, let's shift gears and talkabout you.
What we're going to be doing onthis season of the Sugar Show
is we're not just going to sharestories of sweet success, which

(06:15):
I'm so excited.
We have guests that are comingonto the show, that are going to
be from all different walks oflife that have decided to add on
sugaring from cosmetologists, beauty school students and,
obviously, estheticians why theychose to ditch the wax stick
and how they saw sweet successin their sugar journey by adding
sugar to their skincare journey.
So we are going to be doing thesugar show a little bit

(06:39):
different, where we'll do halfsweet success and then half
business ideas.
And for those of you that havebeen triggering for a really
long time and are looking toreally take your business to the
next level in this next year.
This is a great opportunity foryou to start really honing in
on your business and we have awhole course for that and
there's links and all that goodstuff.
But on the podcast we're goingto be kind of touching the

(07:03):
30,000 foot view of what youneed to be focusing on each
month in your business.
So we're going to do thosethings sweet success and how to
get there by focusing on yourbusiness.
So we're going to give youactionable advice, not just
talking at you about business, because that's boring, nobody
loves that.
But we want you to help buildyour dream sugaring business.

(07:25):
And if you're an employeelistening to this or a student
and you don't have your ownbusiness yet, that is absolutely
fine.
We have a how to build yoursugar business class that's
coming out this month, so staytuned for that.
But we also can utilize theseskills even as an employee, even
as someone who's just startingout.

(07:47):
It's always smart to start thisway.
Now some of us that have beendoing this a really long time
are like you know, I probablyshould have a budget.
I probably should start withsome goals you know for the year
, and that's fine, even ifyou've been doing this for 20

(08:07):
years or 14 years or 14 months.
The idea is to really kind ofstart fresh in your business and
see your business with a freshpair of eyes.
Again, students, you're goingto look forward to what you want
your business to look like.
Employees, your treatment roomis actually like a small
business for you and you shouldtreat it as such.
Just because your boss bringsthe supplies and takes the taxes
out and all that doesn't meanyou shouldn't be building that
business as if it were your own.

(08:29):
It's really, really criticalfor you to understand.
So if you do not own your ownbusiness, that is totally fine,
but act as if you do is themessage.
Um, okay, so we are going tostart strong with one of the
most powerful tools for success, which is setting goals and I
know this might sound kind ofcheesy like set goals.

(08:50):
Of course you should, but wewant to really kick off the new
year with the idea of settinggoals to transform your sugaring
business and to take the stepsthat it takes to get there to
make this the most successfulyear yet.
So grab your notebook, grabyour favorite beverage and touch

(09:11):
your puppy and sit down at yourtable, and let's do this.
So it's time to think big, todream boldly and to take
actionable steps to make thisyear the most successful yet.
So, first of all, you've gotyour notebook out.
If you do not already have theSugar Boss Planner, I will have
a link to that below in the shownotes.
So open your Sweet SuccessPlanner.

(09:32):
We're going to go to the goalspage or take out a fresh sheet
of blank paper, because thatwill be what we can use here,
and we're going to dive intosmart goals.
And you've heard about creatinga vision board and mapping out
milestones to turn those dreamsinto reality, right?
Well, we're going to do thattoday.
So I really believe that thekey to any successful business

(09:54):
is having clear direction, notjust talking about it but
actually doing it and to takethat roadmap and help you
navigate the ups and downs thatcome with running your own
business or, just like said, being an employee in someone
else's.
We want to sound, we want to dosomething that starts so simple
, but setting up those goals inactually a very specific and

(10:15):
meaningful way.
So let's break down somethingthat's called smart goals.
You may have heard of thesebefore, but today I want you to
take a step back and apply theseconcepts directly to your
skincare business, to yoursugaring practice whatever if
you're at a cosmetologist inyour salon.
And SMART stands for Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant

(10:42):
and I'm going to slow down foryou Relevant and time bound,
okay.
So specific your goal needs tobe clear and specific.
Think about exactly what youwant to achieve in your sugaring
business this year.
So, for example, instead ofsaying you know I want more
clients Of course we want moreclients you would say I want to

(11:02):
attract 20 new clients by theend of March.
Get specific 20 new clients bythe end of March, get specific.
Next, you want to do goals thatare measurable and can be
tracked.
You want to know how far you'vecome and what progress you've
made.
So, instead of saying I want tobe better at marketing, maybe
say I want to post three times aweek on Instagram and engage
with followers daily Okay, maybethat's your goal.

(11:25):
So, if your goal is 20 newclients by the end of March,
that's measurable.
Three posts each weekmeasurable.
Write that down, okay.
And you might not know quiteyet how you're going to get
there.
We work on that.
In our business coaching andthe latest one is up every first
of the month there's a newcoaching concept, and that's

(11:45):
links in the bio too.
Okay, the next one, sma A, isthe next one achievable your
goals should be a challenge, butalso realistic.
So this is about building yourconfidence, and if you're
currently, for example, seeing10 clients a week, maybe your
goal is to see 15 clients a weekby June, say.

(12:05):
It's something that you cangrow into, so that you're seeing
15 clients, which would beabout every two hours, which
would be about a seven hour day.
If you just did half an hourblocks, okay, great money in
that.
And the idea, though, is to be,again, measurable and smart and
achievable.
So you don't want to say, oh,I'm 100 clients a day.

(12:27):
It's not achievable for you todo by yourself.
Maybe it is if you have a staff.
Now, relevant is R Make sureyour goal is aligned with where
you want your business to go.
So is this helping you achieveyour big picture vision?
If your focus is to build ahigh-end client experience, for
example, if your focus is tobuild a high, build a high end
client experience, for example, setting goals about low budget

(12:49):
services might not align.
So if your goal is to achievemore clients, is it relevant?
Do you already have like apacked day?
You might not want to achievemore clients, you want to be
smarter with the ones that youhave and maybe you want them
each to book one extra service, right?
So measurable, but kind ofrelevant.
If you have no clients, thenobviously you can count the

(13:11):
amount of clients, so being veryspecific and very relevant to
what it is that you're trying toachieve big picture, okay.
The T is time bound.
So every goal needs a timeline.
Or it's just something you'retalking about, it's just a wish?
Okay.
So put a date on it.
When will you have those new 20clients?
When will you implement thosenew marketing strategies?

(13:34):
Hold yourself accountable.
We can hold you accountable, too, inside of our tribe, but
hold yourself accountable sothat you know okay, this is the
timeline.
I want to get 20 students perweek by March March 1st, march
15th, march 30th when?
Put that in your calendar andhold yourself accountable and

(13:55):
ask for a buddy.
We're going to talk about thatin a moment, okay.
So I used to think.
I used to think that visionboards and manifesting were a
bunch of woo-woo and that it wasall about working hard and
working hard towards yoursuccess.
And what I've come to find overthe 22 years that I've been

(14:19):
doing this is it really is aboutthe bigger picture and
visualizing what success lookslike for you.
So this is one of my favoriteparts of goal setting, because
it's where we let yourcreativity run wild for you.
So vision boards I've come tofind out that they are not just

(14:39):
for fun.
They're tools that actuallyhelp you align your mind with
your goals right, and by havingsomething visual you create that
daily reminder of what you'reworking towards.
So in the beginning of yoursugar boss planner, you have a
little vision board on there.
Did you fill it out last year?
If you're still on our coachingin our coaching club?

(15:01):
If you didn't, then we're goingto be starting this year.
But really the idea is to takethat vision board whether it's
digital or manual or you'recutting out magazine pictures
and really visualize what it isthat success looks like for you.
So for someone like me, successlooks different than for
somebody who's just starting out.
I want my staff to do well.

(15:21):
I want my staff to reach morepeople in the community, maybe
if this is your first timehaving a skincare business.
You want to start by saying, okay, I want to have 10 new
clients by this date.
But what does that look like?
It looks like I will have amore flexible schedule, I can
pick my kids up from school, Ican quit my corporate job.

(15:42):
It has to be what is relevantfor you, okay, so take some time
to grab a poster board orcreate a digital one whatever
makes your heart happy and findthose images and words and
quotes that represent where youwant your business to be by the
end of 2025.
I can't believe it's the end of2020.
It's the beginning of 2025 andwe'll be talking about q4 very

(16:04):
soon.
It could be pictures ofbeautifully shared skin.
Maybe it's the perfect clientexperience you're trying to hit.
Or maybe it's your dream studiospace.
That could be it.
Put your goals in pictures andwhen you see them every day,
you'll remind yourself of whyyou're putting in all this
effort.
I did this a few years ago.

(16:25):
I made a vision board of apicture of a busy, thriving
studio.
I wanted to create a spacewhere the clients love to come,
not only for the service, butfor the personality and the
experience, and every time thatI was tired or faced obstacles,
I just would open up my book andlook at that board and it
motivated me to keep going.
And let me tell you it isincredible at that board and it

(16:49):
motivated me to keep going andlet me tell you it is incredible
.
I'm standing inside of my spaceand, um, and I've achieved that
, and that's because I could seewhat the success looked like.
So I encourage you to make yourown vision board, to keep it
somewhere that you can see itinside your planner book or by
your desk, or somewhere in yourstudio, or even use it as your
phone wallpaper and have someslides on there, because really,
it's about what you can see foryourself not for anyone else,

(17:13):
but for you Now.
Selling or setting goals andcreating vision boards is an
important first step, but here'sthe truth Goals without actions
are just dreams, and it's whatyou do every day that brings
those goals to life right?
So taking action is that bridgebetween where you are now and

(17:34):
where you want to be, andwithout it, dreams are just that
they're dreams.
So if you think about it, ifyou're just talking about it and
you're not doing anything aboutit, I have some people that say
I'm just going to pray on it orI'm just going to.
You know, god's got the plan, which is totally true and
totally viable, but you alsohave to take action, okay.

(17:58):
So I'm excited because oursugar pro business coaching
course is in action.
This program is designed tohelp you take those dreams and
turn them into a reality.
I have the guidance and theactionable strategies and a
supportive community, and you'llhave everything that you need
to succeed.
It's almost like a roadmap thatour co-pilot and a cheerleader

(18:21):
rolled all into one.
So, really, if it's not ourprogram, that's fine.
Get a business coach, get a lifecoach, get a business partner
that you can bounce ideas off ofand have some accountability,
because one of the key featuresin our course, for example, is
accountability.
When you have someone holdingyou accountable, you are far

(18:42):
more likely to stay on track andfollow through on your plans.
That's why I encourage you tofind an accountability partner.
This could be a fellow sugarpro or a mentor like myself, or
even someone in your personallife who believes in you.
Share your goals with them, check in with them regularly and
lean on them for support whenthings get tough, and be

(19:04):
available for them when thingsget tough for them.
So think about this how manytimes have you set a goal,
gotten started and then it justfizzles out because life got
busy or you didn't have anyoneto keep you motivated?
An accountability partnerchanges that dynamic.
They are there to remind you ofyour why.

(19:25):
You know I do it for my boysand now they're off to college,
and now I do this for myselfbecause I have lots of time on
my hands as an empty nester.
And my colleagues, my educationteam they remind me that I'm
doing this for them and fortheir students.
So my education team, myeducators that are around the

(19:47):
country they challenge eachother and hold each other
accountable.
So find a community we're happyto have you be part of ours and
really work with them tocelebrate your wins and to help
you troubleshoot when thosechallenges arrive.
Because they will arrive, mygosh.
Sometimes it's every day itfeels like, but challenges will,

(20:08):
will arrive.
You need to have thataccountability partner, somebody
that's your SD bestie, that canhelp you there.
You're ready to make 2025 theyear your business truly thrives
.
I invite you to take the nextstep.
I invite you to join a businesscoaching course.

(20:29):
We have one Again.
Grab a mentor, find thataccountability partner and let's
make those dreams together, because this isn't about
business growth.
It's about creating the lifethat you envision.
So I have students that, forexample.
They come to me, they want towork, they want to learn.
They have no planner, they haveno plans.

(20:51):
They start out strong inJanuary and they fizzle out, and
that is not what we want foryou.
And make this year different.
Make this year the year youfinally have a budget.
Make this year the year thatyou finally put together that
business plan or get your nametrademarked.
You have everything that ittakes to create a thriving sugar

(21:13):
business even skincare business, just using sugar this year.
But it all starts with clarityand action, and you need to set
your goals and visualize themand take the first steps this
month.
There's nothing more powerfulthan moving forward with purpose
, and my team and I are here foryou every step of the way.

(21:36):
So I'd love to hear about yourvision boards, your goals, your
plans for taking action.
Feel free to share them insidethe Love to Sugar community.
We'd love to cheer you on.
Tag me in Instagram with any ofyour socials that are showing
you killing it in your business.
Maybe you're a student andyou're graduating.
Tag us, tag Love to Sugar.
Help us, let us cheer you on.

(21:57):
Let us help you to just feelgood about your business.
Sometimes you really feel likeyou're on an island, and we want
to change that this year andreally create a sugar tribe
community that supports eachother and uses good products and
, you know, takes their businessto the next level.
So let's make this the yearthat you truly transform your
business.

(22:19):
I think a lot about thisbeautiful industry of ours and I
want to make sure that you allunderstand your goals for 2025.
You understand how to do this.
You have someone in your cornerthat's not going to laugh at
you if you set a lofty goal, orthey're not going to just keep

(22:39):
saying yes to you.
They're going to challenge you,and that's what this love to
sugar community is all about, what the sugar tribe is built
for.
So the idea is that you comeback every month and we will see
you.
The class starts the firstSunday every month.
You will get a class sent toyou.
Starts the first Sunday everymonth.

(23:00):
You will get a class sent toyou, and then we have homework
and action items anddownloadables and email
encouragement throughout themonth and the Sugar Show podcast
will be.
The first Sunday of every monthis when this will go live and
you can listen to us.
We're going to be like I said, bringing you success stories
like my own, which I am sograteful to be able to share
with all of you, and we'll bebringing you success stories

(23:22):
from here on out from oureducators and from sugar company
owners that really are takingtheir business to the next level
, and maybe you started scaredand are finishing, had finished
2024 strong and are movingforward for 2025.
So I look forward to seeing youevery week.
Now my social media team is inaction and we just are going to

(23:44):
be hands-on throughout thecountry with hands-on educators.
So, if you're interested inbeing an educator, listen out
for the educator application andthis 2025 year.
Man, we have been doing this areally long time.
This COVID really kicked us inthe backside and it's been a
challenge with elections andinflation, and in California,

(24:06):
we've got $5 gallons of gasthat's starting to come down,
thankfully, and you know.
Now it's time for you and thisbusiness, and so if you have
ever done anything for yourself,I tell you find a quiet space,
get a brand new planner and apen that you love.
I have this one pen that I lovethe way it feels in my hand and

(24:29):
writes Start baby steps byidentifying your goals, your
smart goals, and saying toyourself okay, what do I want
for January, what do I want forFebruary, what do I want for
February, what do I want forMarch?
You need help with that.
We've got you.
In the meantime, have abeautiful month.
I look forward to seeing you Iguess seeing you speaking to you

(24:49):
next month, where we were goingto talk about financial
foundations and really takingownership of your business.
So, cheers to you all.
I look forward to a beautiful2025 and I am cheering you on
all the way.
Cheers to your sweet success.
