Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello and welcome
back to this episode of the
Sugar Show.
I am really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really excited to talk 24.
First of all, it's my favoritenumber.
Second of all, I want to talkabout 2024.
Right now.
Let's make it happen and let'smake sure that we are prepared.
(00:22):
2020, sucker punched us hard.
2021, we thought would be thebetter year.
That was a sucker punch to theother cheek.
2022, kind of starting arebound.
Business is doing better.
23 is doing better, but theprices are high.
Yes, it's expensive, food isexpensive, People are taking
(00:45):
things out of the budget andwe're just all kind of in this
little state of what do we do?
Well, this podcast is for youif you are ready to rock it in
2024.
Welcome to the Sugar Show.
I'm Shannon O'Brien,body-sugaring expert and
licensed esthetician, who'staken my own skincare business
(01:06):
from zero to multiple sixfigures and has helped over
3,000 students learn how to dothe same.
Now let me tell you it wasn'tall that long ago that I lacked
the time, budget and knowledgeneeded to grow my small business
as a body-sugaring pro.
If we were to press Rewind, you'd see the many failed
attempts and lessons learnedthat have helped me build the
profitable business that I havetoday, one that runs on its own
(01:30):
and gives me the lifestyle andfreedom that I only used to
dream of.
I created the Sugar Show tohand you my secrets and give you
the simple, step-by-stepstrategies to help you do the
same.
So if you're a cosmetologist oresthetician or wax professional
who's looking to fill yourbooks, make more money in your
business and enjoy greaterbalance between your work and
(01:53):
home life, you are in the rightplace.
Let's dive in.
I work with a lot of studentsand alumni who need one-on-one
(02:13):
coaching because they're just alittle bit nervous in the
community that we have to askabout what to do with their
business.
There's a lot of people thatare Facebook happy or Instagram
happy and Instagram busy, buttheir actual business numbers
are not looking so good.
So when I work with these folkswith one-on-one coaching, the
(02:35):
very first thing I ask them ishow are your numbers?
Do you know what your numberswere last month?
Or I might say how are yournumbers in Q3?
And they give me the blankstare.
And then I'll say okay, well, what's your marketing plan for
next month?
Blank stare.
Or maybe show me your budget.
(02:56):
How's your budget looking fornext month?
Blank stare, how's your budgetlooking?
How did you do against yourbudget last month if you had one
Blank stare?
So if you want to take yourbusiness to the next level and
that means not just you'rereally good at your sugar skills
or you're doing pretty good, you're seeing a lot of clients,
(03:18):
but you really want to hone inand be held accountable for the
next year, the next month, thenext week, hell, the next day
you need to have a tribe and youneed to work with someone or a
group of someone's that aregoing to get you to the next
(03:39):
level.
Because we all make New Year'sresolutions right Like oh, for
me, I think this next year is mypivot year, because big, big
changes are coming for Love toSugar in a great way.
The pivot year for me alsomeans that I need to get my
organizational stuff tight, Ineed to get my shiz dialed right
(04:02):
, and so I need anaccountability partner.
You need an accountabilitypartner because if you don't
plan, if you just say, oh yes,my resolution is I'm going to
make $100,000 in 2024.
Great, nice.
Do you have a plan?
Have you broken it down tomonth to week?
(04:22):
How about even just a quarter, every three, four months.
Do you have an idea of whatyour business is going to look
like?
Because, if you do not, youabsolutely need to listen to
this podcast.
You need to get involved in ourplanner class that we have and
get involved in our businesscoaching.
This is not a pitch or salespitch.
This is legit Me sharing withyou how this is going to work.
(04:48):
Okay, if you want to take yourbusiness to the next level, you
need a roadmap.
You need if you want to getfrom A to B, if you want to get
from here to Kentucky I'm notgoing to Kentucky, but if you
want to get from here toKentucky, you have to have a
roadmap.
You have to have a GPS.
These days roadmap I'm kind ofdating myself, but you need to
(05:08):
have a GPS.
You need to understand how do Iget from point A to point B,
the pit stops along the way, thestops for gas, for drink, for
maintenance, being able to sayyou know what?
What if I blow out a tire?
Do I have a plan for that?
Do I have a plan for that?
Emergency plan, music plan?
(05:29):
What is your plan to get fromhere to Kentucky?
What is your plan to get fromwhere you are today to killing
it in 2024?
And if you're already doingwell in 2023, well, how are you
going to take that to the nextlevel?
How are you going to improve onthat?
Okay, so it's not just about theNew Year's resolution or
(05:53):
nodding your head at me andsaying, yeah, you know, I'm
really excited about the yearchanging, I'm really ready for a
new year.
Well, are you really?
Are you really ready for a newyear if you don't even have a
planner, if you don't even havean accountability partner, if
you don't have a place to kindof coordinate all your socials,
(06:18):
all your everything that's inyour head?
How do you put it down andstrategically organize yourself
so that your next year again, your next month, your next week,
your next day is tight andorganized and there's step by
step by step plan to createthose building blocks to get
yourself to the next goal, tothe end result, to Kentucky, to
(06:41):
building the house, to howeveryou want to compare it to.
You absolutely need to have aplan to move forward.
So what do you do, you, as itrelates to estheticians?
You know there's so manyplanning classes out there.
There's so many people that arewilling to help you in your
(07:01):
personal life to drink morewater or to exercise more.
You know, get your New Year'sresolutions right, budget your
personal accounts.
But what I really want to do iswalk you through how to take
this skincare business, thissugar business, this combo
business, whatever you havecreated for yourself.
(07:21):
How do you take that to thenext level?
Right, like, what exactly doyou need to do?
Well, you need to start withthe year.
You need to start with the yearand drill it down.
So each year is broken into fourquarters.
Each quarter is broken intothree months.
Each month is broken into fouror five weeks.
(07:41):
What does your work week looklike?
What do your work hours looklike?
What is your goal financially?
When are you doing inventory?
When are you ordering thatinventory?
Do you have it in the budget toorder that inventory?
What are the baby steps thatyou can do today that will get
(08:04):
you to a more profitable January?
That will get you to a moreprofitable February, and I've
listened to so many intelligenthumans podcasts.
I've sat on in conferenceslistening to people talk about
just.
If you don't have a plan A, youdon't know when you've gotten
(08:26):
there, if you don't even knowwhere you're going and B.
If you don't have a plan, thereis no way to just stay on track
, especially with how busy theworld is getting these days.
You have to have a way to,every single day, do something
five minutes even where you areputting together your marketing
(08:48):
plan.
You are not wasting your timeby just throwing up some socials
, but you really have a solidplan to move that forward.
A few things that you need tohave in your plan you need to
have your marketing planned out.
What holidays are coming upnext month?
What holidays are coming up inthree months?
(09:08):
You should have had yourChristmas gifts planned out in
October.
You should have had your listof your top 25 clients.
You should have that at alltimes.
You should know exactly whatclients are coming through the
door, exactly what they've beengoing through in their life and
(09:31):
how you can sell them that nextretail product, how you can book
that facial for them inaddition to their next sugar
treatment.
But if you don't really knowwho's walking in the door every
half hour, you aren't preparedfor those opportunities that you
can, in that same half hour, take that one client who's just
(09:52):
in to get a brow sugar and takethat half hour.
It upgrade their services, addon their other services, sell
them retail, get them to bring afriend.
That 30 minutes is critical toyour day.
If you don't plan the nightbefore for who's coming in
(10:12):
tomorrow, it just always takesyou by surprise and then you're
really not ready to go.
But if I go into an appointmentbecause the night before I have
really said, okay, here's thenext 20 clients that I have
tomorrow and I can really honein on what we talked about last
time, follow up with what thosefolks used last time.
What do they need to get?
(10:35):
How are their in-groundslooking?
Do I need to be fixingsomething in what I'm doing?
Because maybe they have moresensitive skin because of a
medical treatment?
Whatever the issue is, if youare not prepared, you will not
get it.
So if some of you are listeningto this, you're like I should
(10:57):
probably get a planner and geton this.
Kudos to you, because thatmeans you're paying attention.
If you're someone who's like Igot this.
I did great last year.
What if you could double thatgreatness in the same amount of
time by just being a little bitorganized?
Some of you are just what isthe last podcast that I recorded
(11:21):
the GALS podcast was a messysuccess.
Some of you are a messy successand if you haven't listened to
Liz Henson, she is prettyincredible.
We're talking about legal stuffbut she has a podcast called
the Messy Success and I lovethat term.
And if you are a messy successin your business, can you
imagine if you were an organizedmessy success?
(11:42):
Can you imagine if you just hadaccountability for all the
things that you were doing inyour business?
So you're going to take thatday.
You're going to create four orfive days business days of
working.
You're going to create a coupleof weeks at a time of plan.
(12:02):
Then you're going to take alook at the quarter and the half
year and the year and you'regoing to really step it out,
really map it out.
If you are flying by the seatof your pants ordering from your
professional sugar supplier, you're going to run out of
product.
You're not going to get thegreat deals and, to be honest,
(12:23):
the sugar companies love to sendall the product at once and
they love working with you.
But if you're not organized andyou don't know what you need,
you're going to overorder orunder order and that's actually
costing you a lot of money.
I love when students and alumswork with me in this way and
(12:43):
really are honest withthemselves, because I think a
lot of us, like I said, areInstagram successful or Facebook
successful, but when we turnoff the video for the phone or
that reel or that story, thesefolks are a messy success and
they seem like they have ittogether, but they're really,
really working over time tocatch up for the organization
(13:08):
they couldn't have done in thebeginning.
If you put everything in oneplace and have actionable steps
to take one day at a time, everysingle day, you will get there,
and really that's what thisbusiness side is about is.
We always talk about trademarksand keeping yourself legally
(13:29):
tight.
We talk about marketing andmaking sure that your socials
are tight and well-fought out.
We talk about client relationsand whether that is well-fought
out, but what if it was all inone place where you constantly
were working on it?
So we have a planner program.
We have an actual planner.
(13:51):
I'm so excited that I've beenworking on for a really long
time.
I put this together to work withall of you and the idea is that
we will hold you accountableevery single month.
To kill it in your business.
We're gonna take the year andwe're going to slim it down to
(14:12):
even your opening and closingroutine for the day.
We are going to talk about nextmonth's social activities.
I'm gonna give you ideas fornext month's socials, but we're
going to physically write themdown in one place.
We are going to do inventory.
We are going to and if you arenot doing inventory, you better
(14:32):
start, because you are missingout on amazing opportunities by
not bulk ordering, beingprepared, being ready, not
overordering, things like that.
We're gonna talk about yourorders.
We're going to talk about whatyour perfect month looks like.
If you wanna make $10,000 amonth, how many clients do you
(14:54):
need to take a day and a week inorder to get there?
We're gonna work on that.
We are going to work onmanaging your day so that you
can have just this carved out, scheduled amount of time that
you can actually work on yourbusiness the next day.
Shut the books, go home, bewith your family, but you have
(15:16):
to schedule it, okay.
So I think about all of you thatare really, really struggling,
and my advice to you is to showup.
Show up for training classes, not every training class under
(15:38):
the sun.
If you're a sugaringprofessional, you do not have to
go to a specific I don't know.
Pick a class, seek help as aningredient in skincare webinar.
It's an hour of your time youcould be spent working on your
organization.
Ask yourself, what am I goingto?
(16:00):
The right classes that aregonna take my business to the
next level?
I ask you this all the time areyou working on your skill set,
your sugaring skill set?
Great, how's your business look?
On a side note, if you are aspa or a shop owner and you have
a staff and you are reallystruggling with just getting
(16:23):
them motivated, or if you're astaff member and you're really
struggling to be motivated, Ihave a staff edition of this
book.
It's the Sugar Tribe SweetSuccess Planner.
I have one for staff membersand then you can be working on
your business inside of yourboss's business.
(16:47):
You can be working on that aswell, so that you can get so
clear on how you're gonna get tothe place where you're giving
yourself a raise, even if it'sin someone else's business.
We have to be held accountable.
We have to get honest withourselves.
We have to slow down and take abreath and say, okay, let's
(17:12):
just start with tomorrow.
If I spend five minutes todaystarting on what I got going in
tomorrow and I'm ready for theday when I get in, I have my
room ready for the day when Iget in, tomorrow's gonna be a
great day.
And if I do this each day, theweek is gonna be a great week.
And I do this every week, themonth is gonna be a great month.
(17:35):
But the only way that you do itis by doing it.
You can have the fancy plannerswatching the YouTubes and all
that good stuff.
Can I really sound it old there, huh, watching YouTube?
But if you don't have someonethat's holding your feet to the
flame and really holding youaccountable, and not your spouse
or partner, because that cancause some rifts but if you have
(17:58):
just a neutral person that canask you questions that you're
not money, we're so.
Oh, it's so tender of a topicfor us, it's so mm.
It just kind of sometimes cutsto the core, right.
But if we just know our numbers, don't be scared of your
(18:19):
numbers.
The power is in knowing whatyou have available and I promise
you it will change your life.
Okay, so we are starting aPlanner class December 11th and,
if you are already, if it'spast December 11th and you're
(18:41):
just now listening to this, noworries, you can still listen to
this and get motivated.
You can still buy the plannerthe links are gonna be in the
show notes and if you have yourown planner, great.
This one is specific for SugarPros and we're gonna go through
it every single month.
So in December, you'll take thebig class or we're gonna do big
(19:01):
vision, big dreams, hairy, scary goals, not intended.
We're gonna go through the big, meaty stuff and you're gonna
have your favorite pen and yourbook and you are gonna get
involved in it.
And every single day, I'm goingto challenge you to get in your
book, see who you have for yourclients tomorrow and make
things happen.
Okay, then in January, everysingle month, we have live
(19:27):
monthly coaching with me, withthe rest of the team, and we are
gonna walk you through whatyour goals are.
You're gonna write them inyourself.
We're not gonna just have thisnebulous, you know.
Oh, let's talk aboutorganization.
We're actually gonna do it andwe're gonna get together and
wanna say all right, what do youhave for this day?
What do you have for this day?
How is it looking?
(19:48):
Raise your hand.
If you hit your numbers thismonth.
Raise your hand if you know whyyou didn't make your numbers
this month.
What is your day looking like?
What is happening in your monththat's holding you back from
making that money?
And when we all do this together, you will be shocked.
At number one, you'll realizehow good you're doing and you
(20:08):
might not even realize it.
Number two, you'll realize thatother people are struggling.
Well, that's okay, but if we doit together, we can get up out
of that gutter together andstart to really turn it into
something magical.
So the business coaching, thatis its own amazing space for all
(20:29):
of you to work with.
But we're putting this plannerbook into the program so that
every single month you'll beheld accountable.
Every single month, I'm gonnaask you after the business
planning meeting to sit andthink about how you actually did
last month and really getserious about your numbers.
(20:50):
And it may cause you to cry andit may cause you to cheer.
There's just so much power injust being free of the shame and
the guilt of not doing thatwell in your business.
So we're gonna do that together.
Ladies and gentlemen, reallyhonestly, if anyone is to ask
(21:14):
you how your business is doingand you don't know off the tip
of your tongue the percentage ofsales that you've done, the
gross sales that you've done, the net profit that you've made.
If you do not have an idea ofwhat that is, this class is for
you.
If you don't have any idea whata profit and loss statement is,
(21:38):
if you do not have anaccounting software, if you do
not really know what clients youhave coming in tomorrow, this
class is for you.
So again, we start December11th.
You can just do it on your ownwith the planner after you work
with us on that first class, oryou can continue with the
(21:58):
Accountability Partner everymonth.
But the moral of the story is mybusiness didn't start really
truly killing it until I gotreal.
Until I got real with mynumbers and wrote it down and
had someone ask me how I wasdoing.
(22:19):
So don't be shy, we've got you.
You don't have to give us yournitty gritty, dirty stories when
they see you in the live class.
But you do need to get realwith yourself.
And so you'll order the book.
We'll give you all theinstructions on that.
But, honestly, planning is thebesides amazing sugar skills.
(22:41):
Planning is the number, number, number, number two thing right
up next to amazing sugar skillsthat are gonna help you kill at
this business.
So that was a quick littleepisode of me on my soapbox and
we just we're gonna do thistogether.
24 is my lucky number, it isgonna be our lucky number
together.
We're gonna pivot together andwe are gonna hit this next year
(23:03):
running and we are going to makethe moves to make.
I want all of you to be on thesweet success series for the
Sugar Show podcast.
I do.
I want all of you to be able toapply for it and say you know
what?
I killed it and we got this.
So I look forward to seeing youin the next episode, because we
have got some massiveannouncements that are gonna
(23:27):
change the face of the sugarindustry and I'm really excited
to share them with you.
So stay tuned and I will seeyou in a couple of weeks.
Happy Thanksgiving and have awonderfully sweet holiday.
