In this conversation I am joined by my friend Garry Gilfoy, Psychotherapist and tertiary lecturer with 20+ years of experience counselling, lecturing, and many years of life experience.
Together we reflect on what trauma is, our personal learning and interpretation of all things trauma. In this introduction video we touch on what trauma is, that it is largely undiagnosed, and share an important message - it is not the survivor’s fault AND it is ones responsibility to do what we can – next - though! We look at the complexities of trauma, the different kinds of trauma, some therapeutic limitations and options. We also dive into understanding the bodies reaction to trauma and touch on what signs might we have that we have unresolved trauma, and we start to touch on what can be done about it.
Repairing our “cracks” that broke us, from our experience is a long journey, and this podcast series is intended as a step 1, and part of the gold that can help repair and strengthen us into more powerful beings!

ACTIONABLE STEPS:
Many of us have been through way too much, which is why we want to give you tools in each episode – things you can action in some way to help you. So let's look at that.
Actionable step 1: One thing we reflected on is finding meaningin trauma.
This is not a “it happened for a reason” imposition, you don’t need to do that. It’s “can you find anything good at all in it?” Good may be too harsh of a word… “is there any silver lining – at all?” For me it’s having been able to support many on their own journeys and my ability to see and know what someone feels – because I have been there. I am truly grateful that people feel less alone.
Actionable step 2: Recognizing TraumaResponses in Daily Life: At around 35 minutes there is a list of things that trauma looks like “now,” from pushing kids away and not being present, to addiction, to what does fight, flight, freeze, fawn actually look like. We invite you to pay attention to and list what things you notice about yourself that might show you have trauma stored in your body. You don’t need to worry what to do about it yet, just notice.
