The Sympathizer is a new HBO Original Limited Series based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The Sympathizer is an espionage thriller and cross-cultural satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren't over. Join the cast and crew each week on The Sympathizer Podcast where we’re debriefing and decoding the show. After every episode, host Philip Nguyen- a scholar of Vietnamese- American culture, will go deeper into the characters, their motives, and the show complicates what we know about the Vietnam War, AKA, the American War in Vietnam, and its depiction in U.S. pop culture today. Guests include stars Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, Ky Duyen, Kieu Duy Nguyen, Emmy® winner Sandra Oh, Academy Award® winner Robert Downey Jr., who plays multiple roles, showrunner Don McKellar, author Viet Thanh Nguyen and Director Park Chan-Wook.
