Speaker 2 (00:05):
Gaming.
Wait for it Anime PLUS ULTRA.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Mr Eric Almighty and
Phil the Filipino.
Yeah, they've got you covered, and all you gotta do is wait for
it.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
This is the Wait For
it Podcast.
Hey, everyone, welcome back tothe Wait For it Podcast.
I am your co-host, phil Barrera, aka Phil the Filipino.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
And I'm your other
co-host, mr Eric Almighty, and
we're going back to the glorydays where me and Phil would
just talk about what happened inthe world of entertainment on
this edition of what Did I Miss, covering July of 2025.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, no guests here
this month.
We had a couple of thingsplanned and you know what Life
happens and things fall apart, but we should be running it back
in the month of August.
We are, we are manifesting thatthat is going to happen.
So a whole lot happened here inthe month of July.
If you've never listened to anepisode of what Did I Miss, it
is our monthly bonus episodewhere we go over any pop culture
(01:15):
news that you may just havemissed out on.
You know there's a whole lotgoing on in the pop culture
world and we are here to recapbasically everything that we
possibly can, and I'm going tohave a lot of fun doing so.
It's a very just kind of casualfun episode, and that's what's
going to happen here today.
Uh, and Eric, I think, saidthat we are going to go back to
doing this weekly, so he's veryexcited, uh about that, isn't
(01:39):
that correct?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
But the format of
this episode?
The format of this episode willagain stay super casual.
In fact, we're going to do iteven more casual.
No wheel today.
Wow, that should let you knowthat we're serious.
So you got to come back.
The Akira, the Akira meat, ah.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
No wheel, no wheel,
or I'm going to do the Henry
Cavill.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Ah, no wheel, no
wheel, or I'm going to do the
Henry Cavill, that grotesquescream man, shout out to the
episode we're doing next afterthis, which is covering man of
Steel from the perspective ofPhil, who's only seen James
Gunn's Superman in comparison.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
So that's a great.
Give me a little tease and abonus.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
I almost forgot, but
we are now going to just shift
our topics into more of just aback and forth between me and
Phil, just talking abouteverything that happened this
month, and we have a lot.
A lot of these stories havecome from our Discord.
We're under Pop Culture News.
We have friends of the showtalk about things that happened
(02:47):
throughout the month, we gothrough a discourse about it and
we talk about it, and that'sreally what we're going to be
doing here in that same vein, just verbally to each other for
the first time, outside ofwhat's been discussed in that
discord.
So, phil, I think we are in agreat place to get started.
We're going to streamline theepisode to get you all of the
(03:08):
content that you missed, all ofthe news that you missed in the
month of July, and if you wantto get started first, phil, you
got your pick of the litter here.
It was quite a bit of stuffthat happened as far as the news
we missed.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, I do want to
shout out Aaron, who joined us
last month.
I do apologize.
There are no cryptid or alienstories this month, so we will
have you cover that whenever youreturn in the future, the first
story I'll have.
This is one of the ones where,if we were when, I thought we
were still going to do theoriginal.
You know the original way thisepisode goes, because Kevin
(03:41):
Feige stated that Kang wasn'tenough, as Marvel was already
planning Robert Downey Jr as aDoctor, doom pivot before
Jonathan Major's departure, andhe was just essentially like,
without referencing majors byname, he said that the actor's
departure had not been the solecatalyst for the series creative
changes.
Instead, conversations hadalready begun to bring back
(04:05):
robert downey jr.
Um, then, you know, we quote,we had started even before that
had happened to the actor.
Uh, we had started to realizethat kang wasn't big enough,
wasn't thanos?
No shit man.
You had him lose to ant-man'sdaughter in his first appearance
.
Like we, we know, bro, we, we,we know Of all the people there
were to choose from and the factthat they also showed that
(04:28):
every Kang looked like JonathanMajors.
No shit man, yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
No, I mean, why not
talk about Marvel, with
Fantastic Four coming out thismonth?
And you know the success ofThunderbolts or at least
critical success maybe not boxoffice success of Thunderbolts.
You know the MCU is in talksmore in these circles more than
ever before.
I just got to say we don't careanymore, we just want to move
(04:56):
forward.
I think everyone is verypatiently waiting for Doomsday,
for that, to set up Secret Warsand whatever else they're going
to be doing in this phase.
It's hard not to look back andjust see all of the missteps to
this point, and I think that iswhat really has stopped me from
diving into that content.
Like I didn't watch ironheart,I just kind of caught up on the
(05:18):
cliff notes of it, right, likewe talked about why, why is that
getting its own series?
And, uh, you know some peopleliked it, but I don't know.
It just didn't seem like apriority.
We kind of need to get backinto the groove of things.
I think they tried to do thatand maybe to some success.
Did that with fantastic four, which is going to be my story
(05:39):
I'm going to kind of throw inhere, since we're talking Marvel
.
The Fantastic Four had a prettydecent box office appearance.
They made just over a hundredmillion dollars on their debut
and, phil, I'm very curious whatthis might mean, because some
(05:59):
people see it as like a moderatereception.
But also it seemed likeSuperman in you know, a couple
of weekends from its release haseaten into that demographic a
little bit.
Have you kind of kept up withit at all?
Because it feels like even ifpeople like the movie, which it
seems like most people have, I,I think the numbers have to
(06:21):
start showing up for Marvel, otherwise they're going to hit
the panic button again and thenwe're all're all fucked yeah, I
can tell you that the discourseon marvel twitter has been
fairly positive, I think, interms of the, the new version of
these characters that we got.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
We of course have the
, the ridiculous attempted smear
campaign of pager pescal, whichis just crazy.
A bunch of people that have notime on their hands, probably
the same people that want theCyniverse restored.
But anyway, between all of that, the reception has been
relatively positive, I think, with now just something new,
(06:58):
like with James Gunn's Supermanbeing received so well and it
being a fresh take on.
Uh, you know what we had as faras all these dark superhero
films.
You know it's been a relativelygood year for all these movies,
but, um, it really felt likethis year.
Fantastic four, like you said, thunderbolts has been a critical
success for sure.
(07:19):
You know what happened withcaptain america is is what it is
.
I think that film was doomedfrom the start, unfortunately,
but between Fantastic Four andalso the Thunderbolts and then,
if you want to group Supermanback in there as well, just as
superhero movies in general, itreally does feel like it's a get
ready for what's going tohappen with Doomsday, because I
just have no faith whatsoever inthat film, but at the same time
(07:42):
, I did see a tweet.
It was like all it's's gonnatake is we're gonna see deadpool
and wolverine standing next toshang chi and the fantastic four
.
We're gonna be like we're soback, baby, that's all it's
gonna take.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
And we're gonna be
like let's buy our tickets yeah
and uh and that 118 milliondollar uh opening, so just over
100 a million.
I think I said uh is justdomestic, so there's another 100
million.
I think I said uh is justdomestic, so there's another 100
million internationally.
But you know, superman's stillholding strong out there.
I think that this movie, evenif it is being received very
well again, needs to reallyperform much better than uh it
(08:18):
is, even though that's I mean, that's not a small amount of
money to scoff at by any means.
But, yeah, marvel wise, I don'tthink there's too too much that
we needed to cover.
There's a lot in film andentertainment, though, that we
could jump into.
So, phil, is there anything onthat end you want to jump into
or anything Marvel related youstill wanted to touch on.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
No, that's enough of
that, let's move on.
Touch on no, that's enough ofthat, let's move on.
But let's do a really easytransition.
As we talk about, uh, papapedro pascal, because naughty
dogs chief, uh neil druckman, isgoing to be stepping away from
the hbo's last of us ahead ofseason three to focus on game
development.
They do have a game, of course, coming out within the next
couple of years um, the, thespace game.
(09:02):
I can't remember the name of itright now off the top of my
head, but he did release astatement here online.
I'll just read like a littlebit of it.
I've made it the difficultdecision to step away from my
creative involvement in the Lastof Us on HBO.
With work completed on seasontwo and before any meaningful
work starts in season three, nowis the right time for me to
transition my complete focus toNaughty Dog and its future
(09:22):
projects.
Intergalactic is the name ofthe game.
So if you guys did not see ourstream for the as far as season
two of the Last of Us, shout outto our buddy Jay from Super
Bracket Bros.
They're right in the middle ofan incredible season.
So make sure you catch up withSuper Bracket Bros, but a lot of
you may not have checked outour Twitch stream.
When we talked about the Last ofUs, season two, we were not
(09:42):
fans.
No, not a lot of people werenot fans.
It seems as if Craig Mazin hasa actual hatred for Ellie and,
for whatever reason, has pivotedto Dina.
So, um, I think this isprobably only a matter of time
type of thing, but it, uh, wealready didn't have a lot of
faith in in, you know, afterseason two and you know, with
(10:04):
with Neil stepping away, itcertainly doesn't help that.
So, yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
We will see.
I mean, it's going to just comedown to the fact that this is
Craig Mazin's baby.
Maybe he learns.
Now I don't.
I don't know, it's not a greatsign.
It's just not a great sign inany way, shape or form.
But maybe, you know, instead ofthat adaptation, we can enjoy
the Assassin's Creed live-actionadaptation that is happening
(10:33):
over at Netflix, Phil, accordingto Variety.
Are you looking forward to that?
Speaker 2 (10:40):
No, no, not at all.
Can you as the anime, as theanime head between the two of us
?
So I mean, one piece has beenreceived, well, but then there
was, you know, cowboy bebop, which was, was mixed and then,
of course, got canceled.
So like, where are we at, whereanime fans at with this, as far
(11:02):
as?
Because it seems like this isjust, this is just an
inevitability, it's going tohappen.
Of course.
We had back in the day, youknow, we had the death note one
a couple years ago.
So like, how are anime fansfeeling about this?
Because what really it to memakes anime special is animation
so like what are you talkingabout?
Speaker 1 (11:20):
solo leveling?
Speaker 2 (11:21):
oh, you know what I
looked at solo leveling.
Sorry, I looked at here on thelist.
I totally forgot we're talkingabout assassin's creed, sorry
well, they also are doing theyare doing a solo live action,
anyway, backing it up, I thinkmy brain was like no, don't talk
about it.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
I was like what do
you mean by that?
What do you mean?
Speaker 2 (11:43):
by that.
Yeah, assassin's Creed no, Idon't want that.
We talked way too much aboutthe live actions.
When we had Andrew on a couplemonths ago, I didn't even beat
Assassin's Creed, whatever it'scalled.
I was trying to look around andsee if I had the game in here,
but I didn't even.
I didn't even do that.
And Assassin's Creed as afranchise is just floundering.
(12:04):
Ubisoft is trying to grab ontowhatever they can as they
continue to tumble and maybe areally good casting could help.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
But you know, I don't
have any interest, I think.
I think with assassin's creedand solo leveling although
different genres, obviouslyyou've got your live action,
anime adaptation, live actionvideo game adaptation I do think
that these are two surefireopportunities to just be really
fucking cool, like if that's theprimary, especially with solo
leveling.
Like the whole point of thatshow is aura.
(12:35):
If you could just lock down theaura, part of it, it kind of
feeds itself and its fandom.
With Assassin's Creed, I thinkyou know, just, let let's start
off with a bang.
Start off with a bang.
You can work on the lore, whichis complicated.
You can work on the stories andpolitical intrigue and all the
(12:56):
stuff going on and the religiousundertones.
Figure that out later.
Don't even bring up the fuckingapple in the first season.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Just bring it
forefront.
It's going to be the firstthing we see.
It's going to fade in fromblack and the first thing we see
is this apple and it's gonna bethese two really bright,
glowing characters.
Remember when mr burns was ondrugs and in the simpsons and he
he's like traveling through the, through the uh, through the
forest.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
That's what it's
gonna be, and they're gonna be
holding the apple of eden andyeah no that's how it's gonna
start that, that's not great umyeah, sure, um, I know we don't
really care very much about this, but they did cast the Zelda
and Link for the live actionLegend of Zelda movie that's
going to be coming out in 2027.
(13:42):
Very curious how Nintendo'sforay into live action is going
to go, from what I could telltwo relatively unknown actors
and actresses here.
So I'm hoping that it is goodand that it can catch my
attention.
But I mean, I know we're notbig fans of that franchise.
So anything that you want topivot to we're well into.
(14:05):
I think most of this month inour circle fell under movies, tv
and entertainment in general.
So like anything you want todive into next, next, now that
we've gotten, away fromassassin's creed and solo
leveling yeah, I jumped the gunon solo leveling.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
It's my fault.
Yeah, uh, good luck to thosekids for sure.
Uh, hopefully that'll turn outwell, they have.
There was also I didn't post itin here but there is a rumor
that they had also filed atrademark for a donkey kong film
.
So they're going all in man.
I think that could definitelywork very well, based on how
Mario went.
I know, obviously Pokemon isGame Freak, but you know, those
things do work and there's astory here that, as we barrel
(14:41):
towards the inevitable DevilWears Prada late to the party
for Eric, they did add Lucy Liu,justin Theroux, bj Novak and
Pauline Chalamet.
Chalamet, there's more.
There's another one, there'smore Chalamets.
No To the cast of Devil WearsPrada 2.
Lucy Liu is going to eat up inthis movie, dude.
(15:02):
I cannot wait, but that'sobviously something I'm very
excited about.
Eric, I know obviously you havenot seen the Devil Wears Prada
yet, but a lot of they'realready filming it right now.
I saw people like standingoutside of a New York City
building just to get a glimpseof Anne Hathaway.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
So are you actually
like, excited, like did the
movie leave off in a place?
Because I will be watching itvery soon, for late, to the
parties, for our audience toknow.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Like are you actually
like yeah, sequel makes sense,
or are you like hesitant?
Speaker 2 (15:28):
I'm a little hesitant
because it doesn't really make
sense Like it's a story that'sjust very well set on where it
is.
It has its very specific lessonthat it teaches, and I would be
okay A lot of people would havebeen okay with where it left
off, but with the entire castreturning, like you know, come
on, we're going to be there.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
So yeah, yeah, that's
fair.
Now why don't we talk about afilm that we have both seen and
a franchise that is also doingvery, very well Neja and we saw
Neja 2 in theaters this year.
We saw it in its original form,I believe, is Mandarin as far
as the language, and it came outin that adaptation no English
(16:10):
dub to go with it.
It has now been announced thatan English version of the film
is coming to theaters thissummer from A24 and CMC Pictures
, which is a crazy thing to hear.
Two things stand out.
One, it's coming out very soon,I actually think either in the
month of August or September.
Correct me if I'm wrong there, but Michelle Yeoh is going to be
(16:32):
playing the mom and replacing,I guess, the original voice
actress.
I don't know how I feel aboutthat.
If you have seen the trailer,it's a little jarring.
But, phil, are you actuallygoing to go out of your way to
see this, because you alreadyknow me and my family have been
waiting for this to do so?
Speaker 2 (16:54):
me and my family have
been waiting for this to do so.
I don't know, because I didn't.
I started like watch bits andpieces of the first nasia in in
the dub and I didn't reallyenjoy it.
Uh, you know, obviously alexlee is incredibly talented.
We just talked about soul loveit so leveling.
So I don't know, I think maybeI'll probably go see it just to
support a foreign film.
So maybe I'll go, like I'llcome with you guys, but there's
nobody else in my life otherthan you that has seen the other
(17:14):
two.
Moved on, you know the twomovies.
So yeah, and then Michelle Yeoh.
That just seems like a a littlebit of like a hey, michelle
Yeoh's in this.
You know, like maybe come, come, check it out and they'll try
to build up the first one againas if that movie needed to make
more money for a cultural impact.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
I guess we'll hear.
Nobody talks about it.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
We don't even hear
about it at conventions.
We don't see art, we don't seecosplay, we don't see anything
like that, which is crazy.
So I think people just don'tknow how accessible it is, but
maybe this will help.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Yeah, what is this
movie sitting at right now?
I actually got to see becauseit's like top 10.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
As far as money-wise.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Box office yeah.
Movies of all time yeah, let mesee what we got here and I can
trim it down.
Yeah, so Nayshawn 2 iscurrently sitting, according to
Wikipedia because that's thefastest thing I could find is
sitting at number fiveunderneath Avatar, avengers,
(18:16):
endgame, avatar, way of Water, titanic, and it's sitting at
$2.2 billion.
So I would assume that anEnglish release is going to just
help that right.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Oh, yeah, for sure,
yeah and again.
I would love to see and hearmore people talk about it, like
we are in so many nerdy circles.
no one has ever discussed nasiawith us and we have people that
are very much in the know, likeivan, like cory, in terms of
like what is going on worldwide, especially animation.
They've never mentioned asia tous, ever.
(18:51):
So we're on the forefront herefor once, eric, we're ahead of
the curve, us and 20 billionother people that don't live in
the states exactly, yeah, no, Imean, that's that.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
That is what it is.
Um oh man anasia.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
anasia, screening at
uh sunray studio would hit so
hard right now man it would, itwould, it would, especially if
it was around.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
you know when they do
this live action sequel to Lilo
and Stitch, which Chris Sandersis returning to do, so I mean,
maybe that's the sequel weshould be talking about.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
You didn't have to do
that.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
I thought it was a
good transition, no, no.
What was to do that?
I thought it was a goodtransition, no, no.
What was the story that Briargave us About?
Speaker 2 (19:37):
what Lilo and Stitch
did.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
About Lilo and Stitch
.
Didn't he give us like a wholeplot based off of Lilo and
Stitch?
He did, yeah, he did give us.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
I think it was like
that Lilo was had gotten
kidnapped.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Yeah, I got it.
So our friend Briar a friend ofthe show, said Lilo.
Lilo, a now rebellious teen, and her vicious pet Stitch have
to search for her sister, now amarine biologist, after she went
missing exploring the marine.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Mariana Trench.
Mariana Trench, he left an Aout, okay.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
I was like that
doesn't make sense, the mariana
trench.
So, uh, yeah, I I would.
I would fuck with that.
Speaking of that, this might, this might be interesting.
I saw that bambi the reckoningcame out recently, or like just
now people are saying goodthings people are saying good
things and I'm scared I mighthave to watch it.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
I don't like that and
then that means you're gonna
have to dive into the entirePunaverse, that's what I'm
saying.
You can't just watch Bambi andnot watch the rest of the
Punaverse God.
I'm going to use so muchPunaverse stuff for your
birthday in September.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
That's why I am
Please don't, please don't, yeah
, but that's why I'm very, veryscared.
But, phil, we're still kind ofin the entertainment circle
right now movies, tv, soanything else you want.
What do you want to dive tonext?
What do you want to jump tonext?
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Something we are
super excited about, because I
don't think we really knew whenit was going to happen and then
they just like dropped it out ofnowhere.
That Hasbin Hotel will bereturning on October 29th right
in time for Halloween.
I believe.
They confirmed it at San Diego.
Comic-con and follow boysPatrick stump will be has been
cast in the role of Abel, whichis, of course, the son of Alex
(21:23):
Brightman's Adam, so cannot waitfor that show to return in.
Eric I believe hell of a bossis going to be joining it on
amazon now, so you don't have towatch it on youtube.
So that has always also been inour queue for the longest time,
so I think they're bothreturning right around the same
time as well.
But has been hotel man, uh,what definitely.
(21:43):
Um, like I said, we werewaiting on it for a while, so
super excited for it to comeback and new songs.
I cannot wait to see and hearwhat they have cooked up.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Yeah, I do believe
they're all.
They're also going to do sometype of crossover at some point.
So I think it's just inevitablethat we're going to have to
watch Hell of a Boss and do itfor late to the party.
But you know, that's a waysaway, just like the Odyssey is
in a year in advance.
Tickets have gone on sale and, from what I could tell because I
tried to look sold out of IMAXseating for 70 millimeter, which
(22:17):
is not something you can getjust anywhere.
You can't see that type offormat in just any city or state
or even around the world.
So there's only so manytheaters that have that
capability.
Some of these places are justbuilt.
These buildings are just builtto support this type of theater
experience.
I don't think you were going toget those tickets, phil, but I
(22:39):
thought that was a thing tomention here.
And then I'll also tie in thefact that another film that I've
had my eye on, that we'vetalked about a lot in addition
to the Odyssey, is so different.
That we've talked about a lotin addition to the Odyssey is so
different, but the InfinityCastle movie, part one, for
Demon Slayer, has made boxoffice records in Japan,
(23:00):
breaking those records to becomethe fastest film to reach 10
billion yen.
Achieving that milestone injust eight days, which I'm
hoping, means that my predictionthat all three movies will make
over a billion is going to cometo fruition.
We will see, but yeah, thoseare the two that I definitely
wanted to hit on as far as movienews that I've been paying
(23:21):
close attention to.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Hey, man, if there is
any franchise that could do it,
I do think it is Demon Slayer,in terms of just crossover
appeal for a lot of people likethat's their only anime and for
them to be releasing thisincredible epic in theaters
about the Odyssey.
But yeah, I know we will beseated every time that first
(23:54):
time you see that little clip, that little teaser, you're like
my body is ready, man, I cannotwait for that to return.
So obviously a lot of optimismthere.
Unfortunately, there is notoptimism about the late show
being canceled with StephenColbert.
Now, what I'll say before I getinto this story is obviously
there are things at play thatare out of our normal scope,
(24:17):
things that you can, you knowmuch more educated people that I
have discussed, because there'sa lot of things behind the
scenes going into this.
It's just a bummer.
Stephen Colbert has been astaple in terms of late-night
television, dating all the wayback to the daily show and then
obviously, the colbert reportand that amazing character,
which that's a whole thing too.
He doesn't even have access tothat character anymore because
(24:38):
comedy central technically ownsit.
Um, but yeah, this is a hugebummer.
I obviously he's going to landon his feet.
It's going to be great.
It's been really cool seeing umkimmel and um um seth myers and
, of course, fallon.
Even Fallon yeah, it's nice tosee his other late-night hosts
standing there in unity with him, but it's setting a dangerous
(25:01):
precedent.
But also, again, stephenColbert.
I'm just very excited to seewhat is next for him.
But yeah, that was obviouslyvery shocking to see 100% for
him.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
So, um, but yeah,
that was obviously very shocking
to see 100, and I mean maybeequally shocking because, again,
we're not the biggest latenight fans.
So I mean, the news isn't isonly so sad.
I do think it is probably adying medium, but I also.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
It is interesting
that that is.
It has stood the test of timeand it's it's crazy to think.
Are there still people thatstay up?
It's got to be like boomersthat are staying up late to
watch.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
It's got to be.
I mean, when's the last timeyou watched it live?
You're just watching YouTubeclips, like I am.
Yeah, we're just watching theYouTube clip or the replay yeah,
so, the fact that they're allstill around is pretty crazy.
I mean Conan saw that shipahead of time and was like not
again.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Yeah, because Conan
is like 10 steps ahead of
everybody.
So who knows, maybe Colbertwill end up on HBO like John
Oliver.
That would be awesome.
So John Oliver, that issomething I do watch.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Maybe not live, but I
do watch it.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Like I'll watch that
on like a Monday, you know.
So maybe that's the next thingfor him.
I think he could do very wellin that.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Yeah, probably.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Yeah, definitely
Crazy news.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Yeah, and Phil, I
don't know if you posted this
story, but you know other crazynews that kind of happened was
about the story with MatthewLawrence from Mrs Doubtfire
wanting to use AI to resurrectthe voice of the late Robin
Williams.
I don't remember if you postedthis, but did you have any
thoughts on that?
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Yeah, I hate it,
Obviously in the medium that we
are in and the fact that wespent so much time around
creatives like voice actors andactors and things like that.
I think it's very disrespectfuland I would hope that the
family wouldn't ever agree tothat, but it is also part of
this is the world that we livein and eventually there is going
(26:56):
to be some sort of celebrity.
I hope it's not Robin Williams, but there will be a celebrity
that's no longer with us thathas that will pop up in terms of
AI Hell, it may have alreadyhappened and just somebody we
don't care about, you know.
So, yeah, it is unfortunatelyan inevitability, but yeah, I
hope it does not happen.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
Yeah, no, I can.
I can definitely understandthat.
And, um, I think, with what wehave left, phil, I'll just take
the next two and then, if youwant to wrap it up with some of
the tragedies and maybe not sotragedies that happened this
month, oh no, oh no.
Yeah, you can have that one.
We'll just quickly jump intothe gaming sphere.
(27:36):
Splitgate 2 just recentlyannounced that it is jumping
back into early access and it'sgoing back to beta.
I should say uh, because itlaunched too early.
And helldivers 2, finally.
God, this took so long to do.
Uh, maybe a little too late tothe party, but helldivers 2 is
coming to xbox series x and s ina shocking announcement that
(27:58):
sees sony publish a game on arival console.
So we've seen it happen theother way.
Now, here we are, finally HellDivers.
Congratulations.
I know you needed thatreinforcement.
Probably a year ago.
I wish I could join you.
I just I don't have anybody toplay with, really, and it's
already been too far gone,unfortunately.
(28:18):
Splitgate 2, wanted to give ita try, but the more I saw of it
I was like maybe not, and then Ijust kind of stayed in that
limbo until it tucked its tailand ran back home.
So, phil, any thoughts onSplitgate 2 or Helldivers 2?
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Whenever we first got
into Splitgate so this was like
in the middle of our Fortniteheyday.
At no point were we ever like Iwish this was like when, like
in the middle of our fortnightheyday.
At no point were we ever like Iwish this was a battle royale.
I wish I wish this was morelike fortnight.
No, we played it because it wastotally different from
everything else that we hadtried out.
And, of course, unfortunatelywith most games, you know,
people just got too good and, honestly, for the get good crowd
(28:58):
, we're a little bit too old toreally dedicate time to getting
really good at split gate.
But it has such a cool premisebut and as we mentioned with
some of the people we weretalking to in our discord, like
those early days of the firstsplit gate, it felt like
original halo and then addedthis cool mechanic and I've
never seen anything like this, like a game going back into beta
(29:20):
.
I can't imagine, like, whatkind of fan base that this has.
Who even knows what the playercount looks like.
But yeah, the sun has set onSplitgate.
That is a portal that shouldstay closed.
Helldivers 2.
Yeah, like you said, it'sunfortunate it didn't happen a
year, year and a half agowhenever it originally came out.
But it's cool that we areseeing more and more console
(29:42):
cohesiveness in 2025, as well asthen adding on the PC players.
So it's great, you know.
So, hopefully, people, you know, at least hopefully I got a
little bit of a boost there butreally cool that we're seeing
more and more games crossover.
Of course we're getting Gearsof War here very shortly on the
PlayStation side of things.
One last thing as far as the,I'll mention two more
(30:03):
entertainment things here, eric, that I think you may have
missed.
There is an animated starfireshow coming to hbo max that's
being produced by dc.
I think that's going to bereally cool.
People love that character, andfor good reason.
And the other thing that cameout today it's like pop culture
adjacent is the wyatt six fromthe wwe.
Of course, bray wyatt's, umWyatt's run by in Bray Wyatt's
(30:27):
honor, of course, started withwith Bray.
They are getting a HalloweenHorror Nights house Now.
Myself I probably won't everattend Halloween Horror Nights,
not my type of thing, but we'lldefinitely be on the lookout for
some really cool merchandise, like Briar got me a couple of
years ago for the Last of Us.
So yeah, eric, you know theStarfire thing's cool, but yeah,
(30:49):
what do you think about a Wyatt6 WWE themed Halloween Horror
Nights house?
This is a passion project aswell, for the person and the
people that are involved.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Yeah, I mean for the
Starfire show.
I think that's interesting.
We talked about a spoiler forthe man of Steel episode.
We talked about how one of myfavorite things about DC when I
was younger was obviously theanimated stuff Teen Titans right
, like everybody loves TeenTitans, so I don't know how much
they're going to lean into that, but I would love to see some
type of lean into that becausepeople love it.
(31:16):
As far as the Wyatt six, Idon't know how much people
really love that, so I don'tknow how many wrestling fans are
going to be going to that, butit's a cool concept.
I was already looking atHalloween Horror Nights this
year because of all the FiveNights at Freddy's stuff and how
much in this household FiveNights at Freddy's is brought up
.
So I have definitely beenkeeping my eye on it and seeing
that news was definitely anextra wrinkle I wasn't expecting
(31:39):
.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
I would say that,
since Halloween Horror Nights,
of course it's in LA as well, but since it's in Orlando and
it's a, it's a wrestling hubessentially, I think they're you
know, they'll probably get alot of locals come out.
They'll be excited for that forsure.
But let's move on to our lastbit of news here before we wrap
up.
July was a sad month for forfor some some passings.
(32:04):
I want to I'll mention a couplehere.
There was a Bethesda GameStudios, julian Le Fay, who was
a very key driving force in thecreation of the Elder Scrolls.
He passed away so wanted tomake sure we paid our respects
to them.
Chuck Mangione, who was a famousjazz musician and I knew him
because he was always in King ofthe Hill, so a lot of people
(32:25):
may recognize that name assomebody that they were familiar
with because of that show.
Malcolm Jamal Warner, who ofcourse was Theo Huxtable in the
Cosby Show.
We obviously saw him quite abit in the Community Show and
from everything that we haveheard about just spending time
with him, him he was one of theone of the purest souls that we,
(32:46):
uh, that we had.
It was very tragic passing veryyoung.
Ozzy osbourne, of course, therock star front man for black
sabbath uh passed away.
Uh, a guy who I watched assomeone who doesn't watch, uh,
reality television.
Um, the the ozzy, like the theOzzy Osbourne show and the
family has definitely provided alot of laughs.
(33:09):
So sending a bunch of love outto them and then, piece of shit,
hulk Hogan's looking up at usright now.
So at least you know to end ona positive note.
So that's what happened.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Whoa, whoa.
You can't say that that he's areal american fights for the
right of every man.
What do you mean?
Asterisk, yeah yeah, but youknow, most of those sad yeah,
(33:41):
hard to defend that.
It's like whoa, that's whathe's like.
Are you?
Are you insinuating that he islooking?
Speaker 2 (33:51):
hulk hogan blocked me
on twitter too.
Hulk hogan blocked me ontwitter as well, back in like
two.
Yeah, no, that'd be crazy.
No, I it was.
It's honestly one of myproudest blocks.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
So yeah, yeah, that's
understandable, all right.
Well, that's a crazy way to endthe the recap for July, but
here we are.
If Hulk Hogan meant to uh a lotto you, uh, sorry, not sorry.
Um, he, he did, um, he did, uh,he did do a lot for wrestling
and I will acknowledge that.
(34:25):
That's at least a thing, Iguess.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
How about we end on
this positive note?
Uh, k-pop.
Demon Hunters is the highest.
It's the highest streaminganimated movie of all time on
Netflix and they're coming fornumber one.
So they are keeping it up andthey are doing a great job.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Hell, yeah, love to
hear it.
And, uh, we hope you lovedhearing this very abbreviated
episode of what Did I Miss, where we just kind of ran down
some of the stories.
Phil, when it's just you and me, it's a little bit easier, but
we go through them very quickly.
I still love being able toreally dive into some of these
topics, get the opinions ofguests, and we'll continue to do
(35:01):
that, but there may be anepisode here or there that turn
out like this and, phil, I thinkthis was a success all things
considered.
We will not be going back toweekly, though, so that's just
not in the cards.
I'm sorry.
Hmm, no, what do you?
mean no, it's your favoritething to do.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
I'll never give you
guys a little bit of wait for it
, Laura, before we get out ofhere.
I remember when we were aboutto record An episode of what Did
I Miss the look of defeat inEric's face.
He was like Do you want to dothis man?
It was a true Jesus moment.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
I just had a moment
where I was like, are we
enjoying this?
But at that point I mean again, retrospect is always important,
important in moments like this.
So it's like we, we did sitthere and also record two
episodes a week.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
You know the meme of
the Popeye's employees standing
outside with a cigarette, likewith their hands on her waist,
like that was us again.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
If we had, if we had
this type of schedule back, then
maybe it would have stayed andit wouldn't have been so
tiresome.
But yeah, I mean we were doingsolo episodes, two episodes a
week, throwing in what did Imiss every week there, so it was
just too much.
Then we did it biweekly and wewere like, well, this just isn't
working either.
So I think we've got the rightformula here and, yeah, again,
(36:22):
just having this abbreviatedoption, I think, worked out
really well.
Essentially a very long Discordroundup, but I think it was
effective considering everythingthat happened in the month of
July, which, although that was alot story-wise, pretty tame, I
think pretty attainable as faras what we needed to cover.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yeah, for sure.
So if you want to keep up withsome of those stories, like Eric
mentioned, you know you canjoin our discord community and,
Eric, I will give you some gracehere.
We are under 40 minutes, solook at that.
You, you broke the curse.
Uh, that you will.
That is true, yeah, that istrue, you, you just if you want
to speak like flashing flashflash under your dash from
(37:04):
Zootopia.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
If you're saying shit
like that to prolong it.
That's what I'm saying.
I'm just going to make thislonger.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
I know Well, what
else can I talk about?
No, we are.
We're wrapping up here, so ifyou want to keep up with
everything, wait for it.
