(00:27):
Hello everyone and welcome backto the we Pivot podcast.
Today we're going to talk aboutfive essential steps to stop
comparing and start thriving inyour business.
Have you ever looked around andyou've seen all your favorite
women entrepreneurs seeminglyknocking it out of the park when
it comes to their business?
(00:48):
They're showing up on socialmedia consistently, sending out
weekly emails and they're makingsales, not to mention they're
getting plenty of reviews fromsatisfied customers.
Or clients.
You look at yourself andimmediately start to compare
yourself with where they are andstart to feel bad.
Or clients you look at yourselfand immediately start to
compare yourself with where theyare and start to feel bad or
(01:08):
disappointed about where you arein your business journey.
Well, in order to combat thatfeeling, there are some
essential steps that you cantake so that you start thriving
in your own business and notlooking at so much what the
other businesses are doing.
The first thing is have youever thought of praying for that
(01:32):
other person in their business?
I know for myself when I wouldsee other businesses and they
seemingly seemed like they hadit all together, and especially
when it came to their boutiqueshops, it seemed like they were
always on time with getting outtheir new apparel line.
They have all the reviews andall of these other things and I
(01:53):
started to feel like you know, instead of me comparing myself
with where they are, maybe Icould stop and pray for them.
Maybe stop and pray that theLord would continue to give them
smooth sailing when it comes totheir customers.
Maybe that the Lord willcontinue to give them ideas that
will keep them going andcontinue to motivate them to
(02:18):
keep showing up for theirclients or their customers.
Another thing that can be doneis acknowledge your own
achievements.
A lot of times, if we'relooking at other people, we
don't acknowledge where the Lordhas already gotten us to.
We don't look at those littleways that when we started our
business, we were just startingwith a name and a logo and maybe
(02:40):
a website.
But we get so fixated on whatother people are doing that we
don't realize how far we've come.
Like we might've had a wholenother type of business when we
first started, but we're doingsomething totally different and
it's thriving.
Sometimes we need to stop andthank God for those things and
(03:04):
just highlight how far we'vecome.
Another thing that can be done, number three, is identify small
improvements that we can make.
Instead of looking so much atwhat others are doing right or
what you feel like they're doingright are doing right or what
(03:27):
you feel like they're doingright, go back and look at
yourself and reflect.
Are you doing everything thatyou could be doing?
Like, let's say, I don't sendout any emails at all?
Well, maybe I could set abenchmark for myself to start
sending out email.
Maybe, if I don't post onsocial media, maybe I could say
(03:47):
you know what I want to try toactively post on one social
media platform, based off ofwhat I can handle.
So these are some of the thingsthat you can do yourself.
Like, let's say, if you feellike you've had an old lead
magnet on your website and it'sbeen there for a long time,
(04:09):
maybe that's one thing you cansay.
You know what, within the nexttwo months, I wanna have a new
lead magnet.
That's an optimization of yourwebsite.
That could definitely move theneedle for you.
But you see how, when you thinkabout those things, you're not
so much thinking about the otherperson that you may have been
(04:33):
admiring or you're trying tocompare yourself with, because
now you're looking at what is itthat I'm doing and how can I
make what I'm doing a little bitbetter.
The other thing that you can do.
Number four is enjoy your ownunique journey.
Sometimes we have to stop andrealize our journey is not like
(04:53):
anyone else's and the Lord hasus on a different journey.
You might be working a nine tofive job and trying to also do
business on the side when youhave time.
You might have just left a joband you're doing this full time,
but you have other commitments.
Your journey is not going to belike someone else's and
(05:16):
sometimes we have to embracethat and thank God for that.
Don't be so quick to get to theend of the thing, but just
enjoy the small steps in betweento get you to the big place
where you're trying to go.
The last thing and this isprobably one of the most
(05:36):
important things as well issometimes we need to just set
our own personal businessbenchmarks.
How can you compare yourselfwith someone else if you don't
have your own benchmarks thatyou set for yourself some
specific goals that you canachieve?
Now, I'm not saying settingoverly ambitious goals.
(05:58):
Like man, I want 100 sales thismonth, but you haven't even
gotten one sale.
That might be too hard tocommit to trying to get 100 if
you haven't even gotten one.
Maybe, instead of saying I wantto get 100 sales, maybe start
implementing certain steps toget sales.
Maybe start implementingcertain steps to get sales Like,
(06:18):
say are you doing emailmarketing?
Are you posting on social media?
Are you talking about yourbusiness?
Even when you meet people onthe street out in public, start
conversations, do you tellpeople about it?
These are all things to get youon the road to at least one
sale or one client.
(06:40):
I know for myself, when Istarted making more achievable
benchmarks, I started to see theneedle move.
I remember once I wasn't reallydoing emails that much because
there were so many differentthings that was going on in my
life.
But when I decided you know, Ithink I can commit to one email
(07:00):
a week and when I committed tothat one email a week, I noticed
that at least with each emailsomeone bought something from
the store and that was a realencourager and motivator.
And when those things werehappening for me, I don't have
time to really compare myselfwith someone else because I'm
(07:21):
content with staying in my ownlane.
So I don't know which one ofthese resonated with you most.
Was it the pray for others?
Was it the acknowledge your ownachievements?
Was it the identify smallimprovements you can make?
Was it knowing that you shouldenjoy your own unique journey?
Or was it setting your ownpersonal business benchmarks in
(07:45):
order to avoid the comparisontrap?
I would love to hear which oneyou found the most useful for
you.
Right now, all you have to dois email me at tona at
haywoodsbscom.
I would love to hear what youthought.
