SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Hi, this is Meteorologist Steve Pelletier,
and I'm the Weatherman.
Thanks for checking intotheweathermanpod.com on your
Wednesday.
It is the 29th day of the monthof October.
And first we're going to talkabout Hurricane Melissa.
Hurricane Melissa is uh wasmoving over uh eastern Cuba,
probably just to the west ofGuantanamo Bay, and then we'll
be passing off the north shoreof eastern Cuba during the

(00:23):
morning hours today, and thenfrom that point, it'll be going
uh just over the southernBahamas, probably off to the
west of the Turk and Caicoast, and uh probably right over uh
Inagua Island, which is anisland uh in extreme southern
Bermuda.
From that point, uh, this willbe happening during the
afternoon hours uh today, andbut it will continue to move

(00:44):
towards the north and east.
We're expecting it to be uh asstill as a major hurricane uh
for the next day or so, but thendiminishing somewhat as it goes
closer to Bermuda, probablypassing just to the west of the
Bermuda Island, sometime laterThursday and Thursday evening,
after which time it will go intothe North Atlantic.
Hurricane Melissa slammed intoJamaica during the afternoon

(01:07):
hours on Tuesday as a categoryfive storm with some of the wind
gusts up to 175 miles per hour.
But now the storm is expected tocontinue the move northeast and
may re-strengthen a bit becauseit did lose a little bit of its
punch when it moved acrossJamaica.
We'll lose also more strengthmoving over eastern Cuba.
From that point, though, it willre-strengthen over the southern

(01:29):
Bahamas, then move towards thenortheast before weakening a
little bit further towards uhget closer to Bermuda and then
into the North Atlantic.
Maximum sustained winds are near130 miles per hour moving over
Cuba and then into the openwaters between the eastern
shores of Cuba and southernBermuda, excuse me, the southern
Bahamas, and then we'll continueto hold that strength as it

(01:51):
moves towards the west ofBermuda over the next couple of
days.
So again, the main problem forBermuda will most likely be
during the daytime on Thursdayas the storm approaches.
Hopefully it'll stay just a bitoff to the west.
But either way, it will bestrong winds and lots of rain in
Bermuda as we head intoThursday.
And of course, uh passingthrough the southern Bahamas

(02:13):
today and then into the openwaters for a while before it
reaches that Bermudadestination.
For the eastern sea board more,a lot of cloud cover is forming
towards the north and uh rainyconditions across the Tennessee
Valley, Kentucky, Tennesseetoday, also in lots of rain,
possibly some uh flash floodingin those places, northern
Alabama, northern Mississippi, and the low pressure system is

(02:34):
gonna continue to advancetowards central North Carolina,
then off the Carolina coast uhby the time we get towards later
Thursday and Friday.
But it's gonna bring a soaker, amuch needed soaker, I might add,
from the Mid-Atlantic up intothe Northeast, including
southern New England during thedaytime on Thursday, with a
slow, gradual improvement as weget into Friday.
And this upcoming weekend, so itdoes look like it's gonna start

(02:55):
drying out for Halloween Friday, but fairer but cooler conditions
coming up for both Saturday andSunday, the first and second of
the new month of November.
So, as mentioned, if you'reflying today, it looks like just
uh light weather moving intoPhiladelphia.
A little bit of rain intoBaltimore and D.C., but uh as
you head further north, justcloud cover in the New York,

(03:15):
Norwich, LaGuardia, JFK area, and also some rainy conditions
from a storm offshore aroundBoston and the Cape, also into
the Portsmouth area of NewHampshire and up towards uh
Portland, Maine.
We're also looking at thepossibility of some rain.
That's going to spread allacross the region, so there will
be some delays into those placesduring the daytime Thursday.

(03:35):
Thursday is gonna be the toughday for flying in the northeast.
And it is uh lots of rainyconditions in Atlanta and in
Charlotte, so some delays there.
Clearing conditions in Centraland South Florida, as uh Melissa
will be tracking to the east ofthe Florida Peninsula.
So no problems there, just anorth flow, and that'll clear
things out.
Dry weather in Houston andDallas and some cooler
conditions too, looking at fairweather in Chicago, Minneapolis,

(03:58):
St.
Paul, from San Diego, LA, SanFrancisco, all the way up to
Portland.
The weather's looking prettygood, just some residual rains
in Seattle, Tacoma during thedaytime today.
I'm Eddy Roger, Steve Fellatier.
Talk to you first thing onThursday.
I'll talk about uh Melissa as itgets closer to the Bermuda
Island sometime in the afternoonand evening on Thursday.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
