Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello and welcome to the Wellness Connection Podcast.
I'm your host, fiona Cain.
Happy New Year.
So this is my first podcast for2025 and it's New Year's Day
Again.
It's going to be another shortand sweet one.
Today it's sort of holiday timeand people are busy doing their
holiday thing and you've gotover 90 episodes to go back and
listen to of the podcast, whichI'm sure you'll really enjoy.

(00:23):
But I did want to check inabout a few things today that
come up for people that arereally sort of commonly seen.
One of them is that sometimeswe start the new year in regards
to health goals and things likethat, we start the new year
kind of with hang-ups or guiltor shame around what we did or
didn't achieve last year or upuntil now or whatever it is, and

(00:46):
so one of the things I'm goingto really recommend in having a
good year this year is to let goof and forgive yourself for
whatever you did or didn't dobefore now.
You're really going to startwith a clean slate.
If you don't start with a cleanslate, things aren't going to
go well, because you're justgoing to get caught in the head
stuff like I talked about lastweek Human beings we just tend

(01:07):
to get caught up in a lot ofhead stuff.
We get caught up so much goingaround and around in our head
that we miss the point and weslow ourselves down and sabotage
ourselves because we're goingaround and around in circles in
our head.
So, start with a fresh slate.
Forgive yourself for what youdid or didn't do.
You know, my year went off trackas well the last couple of
months of 2024, because I had arelative have a sudden illness,

(01:34):
a sudden, very severe illness, and so I pretty much the last
sort of six to seven weeks of2024 were a write-off for me in
my business and in my ownpersonal life.
I was focused on helping thisother person and, look, that's
fine, that's part of life.
And I bet, yeah, a lot ofthings throughout the year for

(01:55):
me I felt like I, you know, Iwanted to get this done or get
that done or whatever, andthere's a lot that just didn't
happen.
It just wasn't meant to be.
That's okay.
So sometimes we're just goingto be okay with, um, fresh slate
starting again.
Forgive yourself for what youdid or didn't, do you know, move
on.
And um, look the next thing, too, that I talk to my clients a

(02:16):
lot about in regards to havinggoals like, especially goals
around health and well-being, isget rid of perfectionism,
because a lot of people say, oh,I'm a perfectionist.
And the thing about being aperfectionist is that it really
is very convenient, becauseperfectionism is your get out of
jail free card.

(02:36):
Because you're human, so youwon't do it perfect and no one
can.
So eventually one day you'regoing to stuff up or mess up or
whatever the language you wantto use around it and there's
your excuse to quit already.
So you've got your excuse inthe bag already Get out of jail
free card.
Why even begin, right?

(02:56):
So why even begin if you'vealready got you'd get out of
jail free card this?
So forget perfection.
How about just focus on the factthat you're human and you're
not going to do it perfectly, but you know the whole 80 20
rule that if you do it well, most of the time you will
succeed or have some level ofsuccess, right?
Rather than if you get started, then perceive that you failed

(03:18):
and then, you know, fall offyour perch, whatever.
You know the whole like uh,what do I?
I've talked about before amillion times in regards to
being on or off track.
There's no track, but weperceive this track in our mind
and once we perceive we're offit.
It's a terrible thing, wefailed, we feel bad about
ourselves.
How about forget the track andjust focus on, you know, the

(03:40):
next choice and the next choiceand the next choice, and if,
overwhelmingly, we make choicesthat are nourishing, that will
support us and support our goals.
But if we do the on or offtrack thing, it's getting back
in our head again and you get itback in your head and goes
around and around in circles andyou just don't achieve anything
, right.
So the problem with just doingthe on-off tracking getting back

(04:02):
in your head, all of that isit's just, you know, it's
Groundhog Day, right, and it'syou know what was the Einstein
definition of insanity doing thesame thing over and over and
expecting a different result.
But that's what we do, right?
We get started, we perceive wefailed, we hate on ourselves for
failing, we quit because whybother?

(04:22):
Because we can't do itperfectly, and it goes around
and around and around again,right?
So, in that, I don't know aboutyou.
Well, I do know, I talk toenough people about it and I've
experienced it myself.
It's exhausting.
So, you know, just start.
You're not going to do itperfectly, you're just going to
do it and you're going to focuson just the next choice, next
choice, next choice.

(04:43):
And if you stay present and youstay connected to your body and
you notice how you're feelingand you're listening to your
body most of the time, you willmake nourishing choices.
So you know, focus on stayingpresent, making nourishing
choices and focusing on the nextchoice, rather than
perseverating on what you did ordidn't do, or should do or

(05:05):
should have done or all of thatcarry on which doesn't help you.
You know also, you know plan tosucceed.
So you know, obviously, justbasic, sensible things like
don't have foods in your housethat are not a good idea for you
to have.
Or, if you do, maybe there's away that you can.
I know that for me sometimes,if I have food in my house that

(05:28):
I don't want to eat at that time, what I might do is I might put
it in a container or hide itsomewhere.
Just put it somewhere where Idon't see it all the time, right
, and if I don't see it everytime I open up the fridge or
every time I open up the pantry, sometimes I can do it that way.
So I know some of you mighthave other people in your home
or kids or whatever, and youcan't control the food that's in
your house completely, or, ifyou can control it, don't have

(05:51):
it there, right?
But just plan how you're goingto do it and plan what you're
going to do and be okay with thefact that you're not going to
do it perfectly, but you aregoing to do it, because that
just means you just get in thereand you just keep going every
day, right?
Whereas if you're only going todo it perfectly, you've got a
way out already, right?
So just be aware that a lot ofwhat we do is we get in our head

(06:16):
and we sabotage ourselves and alot of our language that we use
around.
What we do and don't do reallyis sabotaging and unhelpful.
And you know what we do is andwe can all list a bit of many
things that we haven't done butto ask someone anything good
about themselves, anything theyhave done, they often find it
really hard to tell you thatbecause we're so focused on our

(06:39):
failures or perceived failures, what we think we haven't done or
haven't achieved, or all ofthose things.
So, um, I just wanted to pop inand just remind you of those
things.
Start with a clean slate, focuson the next thing, forget being
on or off track.
How about just having a go andplanning to nourish yourself,

(07:01):
staying present with your bodyto help you, to support you, be
able to do that, and if you needmy support around that in the
new year, well, it is the newyear.
Now informedhealthcomau, youcan book an appointment an
online appointment or in personif you're in Sydney and can get
to the Hawkesbury area of Sydney.

(07:22):
So, anyway, I really do wishyou a happy and healthy new year
.
I invite you to notice thelanguage you use around health,
around yourself and around food, and start to slowly change that
.
And again, that's the sort ofthing I work on with my clients.
So if that's the sort of thingthat you need help with, then

(07:43):
come and see me.
The Wellness Connection podcastI'm going to keep it going this
year.
I had a challenging year Imentioned at the end of last
year, with all just things goingout the window for me.
But I'm keeping this going andI'm working really hard to make
sure something comes out everyweek, even if it's just short
and sweet.
But the wellness connection isabout having real conversations

(08:07):
about things that matter, andI'm going to keep doing that
this year and looking for moreand more interesting guests and
topics and things like that.
So I'm looking forward tohaving your company throughout
the year and I really doappreciate your support.
Please like, subscribe and share, and even comment if you're in.

(08:28):
Well, actually, you can sort ofsend me a message through
various ways.
If you have a look at whereveryou're listening to it, so if
you're YouTube or Rumble, youcan just reply to a post.
Have a look at wherever you'relistening to it, so if you're
YouTube or Rumble, you can justreply to a post.
But I think on Buzzsprout, youcan also send me a message there
as well.
Anyway, I hope that you have agreat new year and if you've

(08:50):
woken up feeling worse for weartoday, it's New Year's Day
because you haven't been lookingafter yourself, that's okay.
It's only ever about your nextchoice Go and drink some water
and make sure you move your bodytoday and have some protein to
ground yourself and just focuson nourishing yourself.
So I hope you have a wonderfulweek and I've got a great guest

(09:12):
next week so you really enjoythat episode.
So our guest episode comingback next week, and I will talk
to you all again soon.
Thank you, bye-bye.
