Speaker 1 (00:02):
You are listening to, this Is Some Crazy Shit.
With Sharon Hamner.
This podcast is for you if youare tired of living day to day
feeling unfulfilled, you arefrustrated and you are doing too
much with no return.
This is for you if you areready to take charge of your
life, if you are ready to let goof managing other people's

(00:23):
insecurities and theirexpectations and live life your
way.
Here we have dope conversationsabout saving yourself, so we
can get off these street cornersand stop waiting for Captain
Saviour Ho.
You ready?
Let's go, because this is somecrazy shit.
The absolute worst question Ialways get asked as a

(00:47):
hairstylist behind the chair iswhat would you do to my hair?
Yeah, it sounds like a questionthat I would welcome because I
get to showcase all of mycreativity in making some magic
come through for the client'shair, but it's like a loaded

(01:10):
question and what I found isthat whenever I would answer
that question and make arecommendation that I personally
would think would look good forthat client, based on their
hair texture, their hair shapeand their maintenance, they

(01:34):
freak out and they're like oh no, I could never, I would never,
ever, ever do that hairstyle.
So I don't answer that questionin that way.
Instead, I flip it back on themand ask them about the things

(01:55):
that they like about their hairand what they don't like about
their hair.
And even though I feel like Iwould love to have an episode of
America's Next Top Model bycreating a new image for the

(02:15):
client in my chair, the thingthat keeps us from doing that is
that they don't have confidence.
They don't have confidence topull off the look.
They may have a conversationabout what happened in the past

(02:40):
when somebody attempted to do astyle that was very similar to
that, but they didn't have allthe necessary skills to execute
that in a proper way.
And I'm just here to say thatthe lack of confidence is the
problem of every area in yourlife.

(03:02):
Your lack of confidence iskeeping you from making the
money that you want to make, having the relationship that you
want to have, and theconfidence is tied into the way

(03:26):
that you're looking and the waythat you are presenting yourself
to the world.
Just think about that for amoment.
Today you probably got dressed.
You just went into your closetand grabbed the first thing

(03:46):
without really feeling or tryingto feel what that item of
clothing is going to do for yourreputation for the day?
Did you consider how you wantedto radiate into the world Like?

(04:09):
What do you want people to feelwhen they see you with that
article of clothing, with yourhair done that way?
What is it that you want tofeel about yourself when you
look in the mirror?
And you love your hair.

(04:32):
It's always great when you canlook in the mirror and have a
positive conversation withyourself.
It is so challenging in thesalon for women to sit through
our appointment, be at peacewith what they see in the mirror

(04:58):
.
Oftentimes I get to join theseconversations where they're
complaining about oh my God, thelights in this place make my
wrinkles look blah, blah, blah.
Oh my God.
Can you see all my gray hairsthat I have?

(05:18):
Oh my God.
And the list goes on and on andon, oh my God, of negative
things that they feel abouttheir hair which they are
totally tolerating and can dosomething about it, and why they

(05:41):
choose not to.
It's sometimes confusing to me,because I would like for them
to know that they have a choicein how they feel every single

(06:05):
day.
You have a choice in how youfeel every single day.
You can choose to feel goodabout yourself.
You can choose to look good.
I remember I was having anargument with someone I was in a

(06:27):
relationship with and I was sogood at holding grudges and I
could go days and days withoutspeaking to people and just hold
it on to that negative energyBecause I thought I was doing
something to them and it turnsout the tricks on me.

(06:50):
I was actually doing somethingto myself by holding on to that
energy and the next day thatperson they asked me well, how
do you feel today?
And it was in that moment thatI decided that I wanted to feel

(07:11):
good, that I did not want tohold on to that vibe, the
negative energy, because I wasonly hurting myself in that
moment to carry on.
And you have a choice to feelhow you want to feel.

(07:33):
You don't have to toleratecertain things and situations in
your life.
You can make a decision rightnow to turn your life around and
stop tolerating things in yourlife that aren't serving you

(07:56):
well.
And once you begin to scratchthose tolerations out of your
life, you begin to have moreconfidence in yourself because
you've taken control and you'reno longer the victim.
And it's a terrible feelinggoing through life saying what

(08:24):
this person did this to me andthat person did that in just
feeling and being out of control, and you can be more in control
simply by getting control ofyour appearance.
So this sounds kind of crazy, though, right, but let me tell

(08:46):
you this Having my look togetheris the one thing that has saved
my life.
When I was in a valley of deep, deep, deep depression, the thing
that got me out of bed was onethat I was going to make

(09:07):
somebody else's day to help themfeel better, and in order for
me to do that, I had to getmyself together, get dressed and
go to work and present myselfin a way that looked like I had
everything going on, and deepinside I was a hot mess.
Although I looked good on theoutside, which was shocking to a

(09:32):
lot of people, when I came outof the closet and outed myself
that I was dealing with mentalhealth issues and that I was
depressed, nobody knew because Ihit it so well, because I would
be smiling all the time whenI'm at work dealing with people.

(09:54):
I didn't talk about theproblems that I had and I looked
like I was very confident, butdeep down inside I was like
really hurting and dying inside, and it's crazy to think that

(10:21):
looking good is what saved me.
And now I'm on a mission tohelp women not only look good on
the outside but feel good onthe inside, and so that their

(10:41):
light can shine bright everysingle day.
The way you look can get youinto different environments,
like just think, for instance, when you see someone who is

(11:10):
wearing clothing that doesn'tfit them properly, you may have
a different opinion of themversus someone who has a
tailored piece of clothing, andbecause of that, people

(11:36):
gravitate towards them.
And people can gravitatetowards you as well when you
have a total look that's puttogether from top to bottom from
your hair.
Now, a lot of times, we getcaught up in different trends

(12:00):
for our hair that don't eventhey don't even belong on us.
We look at trends and we decideon something because this was
in the magazine, we've seen thison social media and it's very
popular.
Now we had to be careful withwho we are allowing to service

(12:31):
us with those trends, becausesometimes they're not able to
customize it so that it fits youspecifically.
A lot of stylists have more ofa one-size-fits-all approach

(12:53):
when creating and designinghairstyles in different looks,
and it's kind of like thosevirtual things where you try to
try on a hairstyle and they justslap an image on top of you,
but it's not looking at yourface, shape, your head, and this

(13:18):
is how a lot of people aremoving around, not looking 100%
because the look has not beencustomized for you, but, like I
said, everything ain't foreverybody.

(13:39):
So I want to know when was thelast time you took a real deep
look in the mirror and analyzedyourself from head to toe?
I mean, really took the time tolook at yourself, not with

(14:08):
discuss, not with complaintsabout oh, this should be this
way or that way, but just toknow and analyze who you are as
a person.
Like, do you even know who youreally are?
Have you really seen yourselfnaked?

(14:31):
Have you stood there and lookedat yourself without judgment?
Now, that takes confidence.
And when you can look atyourself and analyze yourself
from head to toe and say, likedamn girl, you look good.

(14:55):
Like and tell yourself thatevery single day you look good,
you look good, you look great.
Look at your body, look at yourhair.
Oh, your smile is so great,it's perfect.
Look how, like, just complimentyourself.
Every single day is so juicyand delicious.

(15:17):
I highly recommend that you getin front of your own, in your
own self and have a greatconversation with you as to how
you look and feel about yourself.
I remember a time when I hadgotten this hairstyle.

(15:39):
That was it was so popular andit actually took a long time to
do.
But when I got home and lookedat myself, it was no way I was
going to be able to show myselfto the world with this hairstyle

(15:59):
.
And sometimes we just makedecisions on getting something
because it's popular.
Like think about, have yougotten a style just because you
wanted to fit in with whateverybody else is doing, because

(16:22):
sometimes it is frightening tostand out, but did you really
think that you were representingyourself in the best possible
light with that style?
A lot of times we just makedecisions just based on what

(16:46):
other people are doing.
And you are a unique individual, you are a unique flower and
it's okay for you to expressyourself in your own
individuality in that when youdo that, it makes you feel

(17:09):
confident and standing out getsyou compliments.
It's so important for you tofeel good about how you look on
the outside and that it matchesand is aligned with how you feel

(17:32):
on the inside about yourself.
So I want to encourage you tocheck in with yourself.
Check in to see if everythingis aligning with the true values
that you have set up foryourself, and is that value

(17:54):
being spoken out loud throughyour personal brand, your
personal image, starting withyour hair and the clothes that
you wear, and bring them alltogether so that you are in full
expression of who you truly are.
