Shannon D. Martin (00:00):
Hello,
beautiful, elcome to today's
episode of this Thing CalledWellness.
I'm your host, shannon Martin.
I hope you had an amazingweekend, like I did, which we
will talk about in a minute.
But if you celebrate Halloween,I know you're probably getting
your kids or grandsons and homedecorated, or you've already
decorated and getting ready forthe little goblins to come by
(00:24):
and hand out some great treats.
I've decided not to participatethis year, but I really enjoy
seeing what the families come upwith.
It just reminds me of when weused to walk our feet literally
all for our kids, but we passedthe torch, and it's fun to see
our kids enjoy this time oftheir lives with their young
(00:44):
ones.
To see our kids enjoy this timeof their lives with their young
ones.
We hardly get anyone in ourarea because we're so far back
in the subdivision, so I justdecided not to participate, but
I can't wait to see what mygrandchild decides to be this
year.
It's so much fun.
So what has gone on with youall in the last two weeks since
we last talked?
What has gone on with you allin the last two weeks since we
(01:04):
last talked?
Well, I did something amazing.
I went on a women's businessretreat in beautiful San Diego,
California, and it was beautiful.
I was in Palm Tree, blue WaterHaven.
I've been to San Diego before, but this time I saw this
beautiful city through adifferent lens.
I went into this retreat as anopen sponge.
(01:28):
I didn't know what to expect.
I just trusted the Lord and theperson who was hosting the
retreat.
I've been to several of herevents before.
I not only worked for her, butI've attended several of her
events and I knew it was goingto be an amazing experience.
I knew the ladies who weregoing to be there, but I didn't
know them on, you know, apersonal level.
(01:49):
So this would be a greatopportunity to get to know them
a little deeper.
What better way than being inthe same house for three days?
Right, I got to see the citythrough kindness, from someone
picking me up from the airportand inviting me with her bestie
and brunch.
From the lens of other womenalso on their journeys and their
(02:12):
respective dreams and places inlife, some who were ahead of me
and some who were walking withme in the same phases as me, all
wanting and seeking informationand direction.
I saw it through the lens offellowship.
We pray for each other daily inour respective spaces and
places and allow others to prayfor us and accept it fully and
(02:36):
wholeheartedly.
I saw it through the lens ofgreat food and laughter and
wisdom from those who werewilling to share their stories
and experiences with one anotherand cheer each other on, and
the best part of it was eachother asking how they can help
the other.
If you look up the wordwellness, it says wellness is a
(02:59):
holistic integration of physical, mental and spiritual
well-being, fueling the body, engaging the mind and nurturing
the spirit.
This entire retreat fulfilledeach attribute.
The physical one was fueled aswe walked along the beautiful
Gaslight District, decidingwhich restaurant we wanted to
(03:21):
try for lunch or dinner andwhich of the wonderful desserts
we wanted to try.
Taking the sights of the area, enjoying the beautiful city
outside in nature, feeling thebreeze and laughing, enjoying
great food was enjoyable.
And, of course, we trekkedacross our individual airports,
(03:41):
getting our steps right.
Our mental well-being was beingnurtured every day with healthy
conversations about ourbusinesses, laughter,
enlightening our spirits, havingaha moments, awakening our
minds and strengthening thatmuscle that we so desperately
needed, having joyfuldiscussions and sharing stories
about our families and justsimply enjoying each other's
(04:03):
company.
And our spiritual well-beingwas nurtured.
As we prayed for each otherevery day, prayed for our
visions and our businesses, prayed for our dreams and goals
and aspirations and our dailylives, we all were feeling so
fulfilled.
That calm, loving feeling wasall over the house.
I couldn't have asked for more.
(04:25):
I went into this retreat beingan open sponge, wanting clarity
and direction.
When I began this new season ofme, I decided that I would step
outside of my comfort zone andshow more of myself and more
about my journey.
Then I got nervous again.
I've always been a privateperson, you know.
(04:45):
I don't like to post on socialmedia and all this.
All this is new to me, right.
So during this time I should be, as I'm stepping out of my
comfort zone more.
I should be more comfortablewith being uncomfortable, right,
but we're a work in progress,so it's taking me a little bit
longer than it should.
(05:07):
But after this weekend, beginning a new adventure again,
I spent a weekend with no music, no TV, just beautiful views.
No music, no TV, just beautifulviews.
Great food and engagingconversation All the things I
love.
But I never took the time to goit alone.
(05:28):
I realized this was what Ineeded to fill my cup.
How about you?
Will you begin a new adventureand take time out for yourself?
It doesn't have to be aselaborate as this Just time and
silence or doing something youenjoy to clear your mind, to
reset yourself?
I hope you do.
This is what this time had beenfor me, and I truly want more
(05:55):
of the us, more of this, for usto experience this right.
Think about where would you goor what can you do right now to
have a moment to yourself, tojust be still and gain clarity
for your new season, your nextseason, right?
So let me know in the text linkabove in the show notes.
I love to hear what you wouldlike to do.
Remember, if you don't taketime out for yourself to fill
(06:18):
your own cup, I think you'll bethere for others and help them
build theirs.
You matter and you are sodeserving of some of you too.
Love you, girl.
