Two Girl Cinema Club went to see Eddington opening weekend and we have a lot of thoughts! If you’ve seen the movie, you can probably relate to us in that it took us some time to completely process everything in the film and how we felt about everything. If you watched Eddington, be sure to let us know what you thought! Hannah also watched Manchester by the Sea, Opus, and Dunkrik, and Ailish started Season 4 of The Bear.

With Eddington getting released, we felt it was the perfect time to explore some other pandemic-style films. Train to Busan was one we had both heard good things about, but neither of us had seen. The fact that the majority of the film is confined to train cars made this one different from other movies of the same genre, and we noted that the infection to zombie transition time is quite fast, unless you’re a character at a pivotal part of the plot. Cargo was one that we hadn’t heard much about and it was a Netflix film. It had some interesting plot points that could have been explored more (indigenous Australian culture) and some that could’ve been toned down (doomsday prepper, Vic), but we did feel invested in our main characters. Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever was a movie Hannah had seen, but Ailish had not. This movie is more campy and fun, but it does have some serious moments throughout which kind of made the point of the movie confusing. This is one that doesn’t hold us quite like the others even though the way the infection is spread did seem realistic.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
