Voice of Yoga! Welcome to the Institute for Personal Development,
Kriya Yoga Ashram, where total consciousness is the new frontier.
Kriya Yoga is union of the individual with the Divine.
(00:22):
Join us as we explore the practices to initiate this process.
Good morning, welcome to the Voice of Yoga. Let's talk
consciousness. I am your host, Lisa Winton, and with me is Kenny
Toy, also known as Swami Jayananda, founder of the Institute for
Personal Development, located here in Hampton, New Hampshire. Good
(00:42):
morning, Swami. Thank you for being here today. How are you?
Good morning. I'm doing pretty good today. How about you?
I'm doing great today, too. Thanks for asking. And we'd like to
thank you all for tuning in. Today in the Voice of Yoga, we will
talk about the Principle and rule of Divine Science and how to live
under the government of absolute harmony. In this show, we will
(01:03):
explain how Spirit isn't a power we can use for personal interests,
but a state of being one with the perfection of being. Listen as we
discuss the idea of being still and knowing the Truth, which
liberates from the false belief. Welcome to the Voice of Yoga. We
are talking consciousness. Join the Kriya Yoga Spiritual Advance to
(01:24):
get the light in your soul and demonstrate Spiritual power. Swami the
title of today's show is "Application of Spiritual Power." And I
think we'll let our listeners know what inspired this. This was
from Joel Goldsmith's book, "Realization of Oneness." This can be
found in chapter 10, and I'll read it. "If you are threatened with
a tidal wave or a hurricane and wish to avoid the experience, know
(01:49):
this Truth. This threatening storm is not a thing, not a thing at
all. It is an activity of the carnal mind, and the carnal mind has
no law, being, substance, or cause. Therefore, this storm is
nothing but an image in thought,
and an image in thought has no power."
So, Swami, we've been working with the nature of Spirit , the nature
(02:12):
of prayer, and the nature of error. Can you
give us a little bit more information about these?
Well, yeah, this is what the title is all about, "The Application
of Spiritual Power." It's one thing to make these statements, "God
is all, all is good." But until we are demonstrating Divine law
(02:34):
with Scientific certainty, we're still under the power of karmic
law. And so these non-existent powers that seem to do harm are
affecting us simply because we do not understand the Divine
Principle. To begin, let's establish the nature of Spiritual power
(02:59):
as the power of one without opposite. Spirit is whole and complete.
It rests in perfect Divine unity everywhere always. It's very
important to understand Spirit cannot be divided. There's no such
thing as being a little bit Spiritual. The nature of Spirit gives
(03:24):
humanity a Principle, which can be recognized as all the good,
beautiful, and true attributes appearing in the corporeal sense
testimony. To apply this Principle, the rule we use is "like
attracts like." This would be the nature of prayer.
(03:47):
Prayer is not asking God to do us favors.
Prayer is the realization of this One Perfect Divine Being.
I like what Mary Baker Eddy told
humanity when she wrote in Miscellany, page 242,
line 2, and I'll read it. "You can never demonstrate spirituality
(04:10):
until you declare yourself to be immortal and understand that you
are so. Christian Science is absolute. It is neither behind the
point of perfection nor advancing toward it. It is at this point
and must be practiced therefrom. Unless you fully perceive that you
(04:32):
are the child of God, hence perfect, you have no Principle to
demonstrate and no rule for its demonstration. By this I do not
mean that mortals are the children of God. Far from it. In
practicing Christian Science, you must state its Principle
(04:53):
correctly, or you forfeit your ability to demonstrate it." So now
we're starting to see what exactly is this nature of prayer. What
does it look like when I am one with the Divine creative Principle?
And that brings us back to what we
call the physics of Spirituality. like attracts like.
(05:16):
And to complete the circuit, we must understand the nature of
error, which is nothing. The entire mental, material world of
energy is a reflection, an appearance, a thought about what is
really here. It's a hypnotic state driven by the belief in two
(05:38):
powers. It is a belief. It is not a something. The law of karma is
driven by this belief in two powers. To apply the Principle of
Spiritual power, we must understand ourselves to be One.
(05:59):
In Mary Bakerty's quote you just read, you talked about the
Principle and a rule, Principle to demonstrate and no rule for its
demonstration. Can you tell us the
difference between the two words?
Yeah, say for example, the Principles of mathematics.
(06:19):
Mathematics runs on these different laws that give it application.
But for me to make this statement, the principles of mathematics
are perfect. Therefore, my checking account is perfect. May not
necessarily be true. The rule is how we apply the Principle to this
(06:43):
external experience. This idea of the coincidence between the human
and the Divine. Without understanding the Principle and the rule,
because the Principles of mathematics just sit there. They don't
change. They're perfect. But it's not until we apply them to the
(07:05):
mental, material illusion do we start to see the operations of
that. And the same is true with this idea of applying Spiritual
power. That's why healing becomes such an important factor in this
revealing the Divine creation. We can say God is perfect. God is
(07:28):
everywhere and in everything. But without evidence, without this
coincidence between the human and the Divine, it's really useless.
You get exactly what you are conscious of. And if we continue to
believe in two powers, if we continue to react to the testimony of
(07:52):
the corporeal senses, then we violate the Spiritual law, which is
the only universal Principle that has self-existent power.
But remember, we must be conscious of it
in order to activate it in our experience.
(08:13):
Swami, let's talk about weather, for example. We just had some snow the
other evening and is there such a thing as good weather and bad
weather? Or how should we understand the Principle and the rule
regarding something like weather?
Yeah, I really like the way Joel Goldsmith addresses this in his
(08:34):
book, The Art of Spiritual Healing. Now, of course, we don't
interfere with the Divine law. We are going to need weather. This
coincidence between the human and the Divine, the thing that we
have to understand about the Divine Principle, it is absolute
(08:56):
goodness. It is absolute harmony. It doesn't mean that it will
never rain. It doesn't mean that it will always rain. It creates
this harmonious balance that supports life. Now, in order to avoid
falling into the trap of orthodox
(09:16):
religion and pantheism, that God is all,
what we do is we tell the truth about the Truth, then we tell the
truth about the lie. The mental material world of energy is never
the Divine creation. But like we said, all the good, beautiful and
(09:36):
true attributes belong to the Divine. What we are really looking
for is what am I conscious of? Consciousness is experience.
Now, we're going to have weather, but what is not showing the
Divine quality would be destructive weather. You cannot have
(09:59):
destruction in the appearance. And if there is destruction in the
appearance, we can't really fix it by trying to fix the weather.
But we can affect it by changing what we are conscious of. To be
conscious of the Divine creation and to be a faithful witness to
(10:23):
that creates the opportunity where the Divine Principle can now
express itself through your consciousness. If we are not conscious
of it, if we do not understand how it works,
then we remain under the government of karmic law. Karmic law is
(10:46):
material law. What we put out is what we get back; for every action.
There is an equal and an opposite reaction. Karmic law goes on
indefinitely until I really like what Von Neumann told us. This
idea of the chain, that once someone makes a measurement and there
(11:10):
is the collapse of the wave function into a particle, that will
remain until it is met by something
that is not bound by the same rules.
And this is where we start to understand the application of
Spiritual power. Spiritual power is not under the rule of two
(11:35):
powers, but it is under the government of One power. And if we can
understand ourselves in this oneness, in this unified state, with
the Divine Principle of absolute harmony, then we become that place
where Divine Truth can reveal its magnificent work.
(12:02):
Swami we have a passage here from Joel Goldsmith's book, The Art of
Spiritual Healing, Chapter 2, and that's entitled, "Is God a
Servant?" And I'll read it. "Is there a God? How do I know there is
a God? I have been told that there is a God. People say there is a
God, and I have read books about God. But if I had to go on a
witness stand and take an oath that I know there is a God, what
(12:24):
would my answer be? Could I swear that I really do know that there
is a God? What evidence do I have? Have I seen God face to face?
Have I felt God within me? How would you answer such questions?
Would you say, yes, I know there is a God, and this is what he is
like?" End of this quote. Swami, what are your thoughts about this?
Yeah, I really think it's very important for us to know God aright
(12:48):
and at the same time get away from a lot of the human concepts
about God. Because in that beginning, man made God in his own image
and likeness. And so we have this concept about God who has human
qualities and at the same time supernatural powers. And like Joel
(13:12):
Goldsmith says here, we think God is a servant for us. God is here
to help us improve this human experience. And all of this is just
bad information that negates the possibility of having this
Principle, this Spiritual power which is readily available
(13:34):
everywhere always. But in order for us to activate it, we must
become conscious of it. But in order for us to be conscious of it,
we learn that we need the Mind of Christ, which means we have to
develop a faculty that will be able to perceive the Divine
(13:57):
creation. But we have a mind, this mortal mind, and the way that we
do it is we begin to educate mortal
thought up to Spiritual apprehension.
And this is all part of the process we talk about. It's all
relative. Everything affects everything. If we don't think right,
(14:21):
if we don't breathe right, if we're not hydrated, the foods we eat
produce cravings and disturbances,
we find that we do not have a hospitable inner environment to
invite this Silence and Stillness of the Divine omnipresence into
(14:41):
our awareness. And so we insist on hanging on to this false sense
of existence, being controlled by forces that are
beyond our scope of power, and we ask for favors.
And then we wonder why sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
(15:04):
Well, sometimes they work simply because of karmic merit. Sometimes
they work because we change our thoughts and we emit the thought
with belief. But what we're doing is we're changing finite bad to
finite good. And we can do this indefinitely, but that's not what
(15:25):
the application of Spiritual power is all about. It is really
liberation from the belief in a finite mortal sense of existence.
It's about walking in the kingdom of heaven on earth.
We're going to pause right here to hear a word from our sponsor.
(15:46):
Listeners, we'll be back with you in just a few moments.
Kriya Yoga Theory 2 is a unique and revolutionary practice and
forum designed to facilitate the growth process in human
development. Apotheosis is a real
experience and has an evidence procedure.
You cannot lead someone to permanent change
(16:08):
by doing for them what they must do themselves.
Personal accountability and responsibility are the foundation of
Kriya Yoga Theory 2. You must be engaged and devoted.
Prana Power brings virtue to
overcome fear, wisdom to overcome ignorance,
(16:32):
purpose to overcome selfishness, enthusiasm to overcome laziness.
Kriya Yoga is a path of action, knowledge and devotion. These
sessions are a celestial positioning system to
guide the individual into union with the Divine.

Welcome back. For those who are just joining us, you're listening
to The Voice of Yoga and we are Talking Consciousness. Swami I want to
get back to the passage from Joel Goldsmith from The Art of
(17:14):
Spiritual Healing. And I'll read it. How would you describe God?
Can he be described? He is not like what most men think him to be.
He is nothing like anything you can imagine or anything you can
think, because any idea of God that you entertain with your mind
must be finite. Any idea of God you may have, you have created
(17:35):
within yourself or learned from someone else. Stop and think for a
moment where your ideas of God have come from. Who gave them to
you? Is it not true that you, yourself, either made up your ideas
or concept of God, or you read something and accepted some version
of what someone else believed, or you've been taught from infancy
(17:55):
to accept someone else's concept of God? Are your ideas of God
manmade, or are they the result of inner experience? Swami what do you
think he means by that last statement?
You have this idea to know God aright to know God at all.
Like we said, in order to know God, we must have the Mind of
(18:19):
Christ. Now, until we have this birth of Christ in consciousness,
however, we can work with these mental concepts about God. The more
accurate they are, the better it will be for us to assimilate the
Divine Principle. But initially, we will start with a belief in the
(18:43):
Divine creation, because belief is the level playing field. We
believe we're a finite mortal being. We believe we have a human
will and a mind of our own. This is all belief. But remember, your
belief in the Divine Principle, and again, provided you know God
(19:07):
aright, in order to find God, we must go
where God is. God is not found in this world.
Spirit is changeless, it's perfect, it's whole. The language of
Spirit is Silence, the activity of Spirit is Stillness. So we turn
(19:29):
within, we stop the insanity. We know we can't bring forth this
Divine image with the mind we're using to get us through this
lifetime. But what we have learned in Kriya Yoga is we can control
how we think, and we also learn that
we can make shifts in consciousness.
(19:51):
We can rise above the testimony of the corporeal senses. We can
make the mind aware for this Divine activity. And in that Silence
and Stillness, we watch, we wait, we listen, and we let Divine
Truth reveal itself to us from within. And when that Divine Truth
(20:15):
illuminates your thought, then you will know God. But you will no
longer be thinking about God. You
will have activated your Spiritual sense.
Swami, I really like what Joe Goldsmith
says next in this passage, I'll read it.
246
00:20:34.000 --> 00:20:38.155
"To Jesus who has realized His complete
Oneness with God,
246
00:20:38.442 --> 00:20:45.757
God meant "Father" "the Father within."
However, for us to think of God as
246
00:20:45.757 --> 00:20:48.126
Father is immediately to think in terms
of some particular concept of a father.
246
00:20:48.126 --> 00:20:52.742
Each of us has a different concept of
father the result of his own experience.
246
00:20:52.742 --> 00:20:54.427
In this modern age,
(20:55):
Children often consider their parents as some kind of a servant
born to do their will, and many adults have simply incorporated
this concept of parents as servants into their concept of God, and
have made a God for themselves in the image and likeness of these
childhood concepts. They think of God as a superhuman being just
(21:16):
waiting for the privilege of granting them favors, of some kind of
a God whose favor can be secured in one way or another, and that if
the right combination of words can be learned, a person can even
get God's favor to the extent of persuading God to do healing work
for him. There is no such God. You do not need God's favor any more
(21:36):
than you need man's favor. All of God's favor you will ever need
you already have." End of this quote. Swami your thoughts here.
Yeah, this is exactly what we said earlier. What we're working with
is the mind that can't bring forth the Divine image, and we're
working with human concepts, theories,
(21:57):
and beliefs. And none of this is Spiritual.
Spirit is beyond time, space, concept, belief, form, matter, beyond
thinking, personal sense, human will. Spirit is absolute, it's
whole. This mental material world of energy is dualistic. I really
(22:21):
like the writings and the talks of Joel Goldsmith. I find them to
be extremely clear and accurate when it comes to understanding the
nature of God. And in that same book, The Art of Spiritual Healing,
he also wrote, "If you will turn within and acknowledge that you do
(22:42):
not know what Jesus meant when he referred to God as Father, and
then wait for God to tell you what God is as Father, you may have
an experience similar to mine." End of quote. So this is exactly
what we are talking about here. We stop thinking, forming thoughts
(23:05):
and opinions based on the information coming through our corporeal
senses, and in that Silence and Stillness, we watch, wait, listen,
and let Divine Mind reveal Itself. And when you have that Divine
revelation, you'll know, because Divine Truth in consciousness
(23:28):
resolves things into thoughts and exchanges the objects of sense
for the Divine idea. This is the fruits of the Spirit we are
looking for. And like Jesus told us, if we
don't bear fruit, then the Father purges us.
(23:49):
So getting back to the title of the show, the application of
Spirituality, is it even possible for us to
apply Spirituality in our day-to-day existence?
Yeah, the Bible says, "Ask in my name, which is my likeness."
Only Spirit knows Spirit , or as we said, like attracts like. We
(24:13):
must know ourselves in the way we are known by the Creator in order
to receive Divine revelation. Born of Spirit, or birth of Christ in
consciousness, delivers the faculty which perceives absolute unity.
Spirit rests in perfect Divine unity. Mortal sense works on
(24:37):
contrast and it is in constant change. And because it isn't whole,
it is in a continuous search for unity.
So it's this restlessness most of us are struggling with, our
inability to be still, because we can't come out of identifying
(24:58):
with the physical form. In order to do this with any kind of
success, we must attune the mind-body complex to the Divine idea.
This is experienced by re-birthing the body in Spirit. Now, when
Spiritual Truth illuminates your thought, the realization
(25:20):
immediately comes, there is only one Life, One Being, everywhere,
always. This dissolves the belief in the false sense of existence,
a separate sense of self. It also eliminates the belief in all of
the problems that come with this separation mentality. Now, we
(25:46):
don't make ourselves Spiritual. We come out of the belief we are
something other than the One Perfect Divine Life. The purpose of
this incarnation is for us to glorify the Creator.
The only way we can worship the Creator is in Spirit and Truth. We
(26:09):
glorify the Creator by accepting ourselves to be One with the
Divine Principle, and in doing that, we become that place where the
Divine Principle can now function through what seems to be a
personal sense of "I" and reveal the Truth of the Divine creation.
(26:37):
God is running a perfect universe.
What we are experiencing through our corporeal sense testimony is
not the Divine creation. It is a reflection.
It is a thought about it. And once we come out of that hypnotic
(26:58):
state, driven by this belief in two powers, and we Know the Truth,
then that sets us free from the belief. And as
the Bible says, "Be still and know I am God."
Swami, as you were talking, it just reminded me of the parable that
Jesus was telling the disciples about the vine, and I think might
(27:21):
be maybe a good story just to relay here.
Oh, exactly. I am the vine, and you are the branches, and no one
goes to the Father except through the vine.
It's all symbolism, and we have to really start to, again, build
the mental landscape that will support the Divine Principle.
(27:47):
Without having your path of knowledge, and then, of course, your
path of action, there comes a time when talking about this just
doesn't go far enough. And we need to start to apply the Principle
to everyday circumstances and situations.
(28:08):
And initially, we do it just like you would learn to play a musical
instrument, or learn a martial
art, or any kind of athletic endeavor.
You take your small steps, it's structure and form, precision and
(28:28):
accuracy, and then comes speed and power. The same is true with a
metaphysical, mystical system, but if you're not applying it, if
you're not trusting your concepts and testing them, your idea of
what is God, what is prayer, what is the nature of error.
(28:53):
This is all part of what in Kriya Yoga we call divide and conquer
before we unite and stand. Or in the Bible, separating the wheat
from the tares. The separation must come first, and then we start
to put the pieces back together in the way they are designed to
(29:14):
reveal the Truth. Life is Perfect.
Swami, once again, some great insights for us to ponder. Thank
you so much. That completes our show for today. Listeners, be sure
to visit the website, www.ipdtransform.com. On any of the pages as
you scroll down, you'll see buttons there that you could press to
