(00:00):
Voice of Yoga.
Welcome to the Institute for Personal
Development, Kriya Yoga Ashram, where
Total Consciousness is the new frontier.
Kriya Yoga is union of the
individual with the Divine.

(00:22):
Join us as we explore the practices to
initiate this process.
Good morning, welcome to the Voice of
Yoga, Let's Talk Consciousness.
I am your host, Lisa Winton, and with me
is Kenny Toy, also known as Swami
Jayananda, found of the Institute for
Personal Development, located here in

(00:42):
Hampton, New Hampshire.
Good morning, Swami.
Thank you for being here today.
How are you?
Good morning.
I'm doing pretty good today.
How about you?
Well, I'm doing great today too.
Thanks for asking.
And we'd like to thank
you all for tuning in.
Today on The Voice of Yoga, we will talk
about the process and initiation which
first divides and conquers, then unites

(01:04):
and stands, as portrayed in the hero's
journey, the separation,
the journey and the return.
Listen as we explain the folly of
changing thoughts into things, which
feeds the cycle of death and rebirth.
In this show, we will explore the
progressive cycle, which reverses the
collective consensus by
changing things into thoughts.

(01:26):
Welcome to The Voice of Yoga.
We are talking consciousness.
Join the Kriya Yoga Spiritual Advance to
get the light in your soul and reflect
the Divine image and likeness.
Swami, the title of today's show is
"Linking the Form to the Life."
So first thing, I'd like to describe
those three words, what we mean by
linking, what we mean by

(01:48):
form, and what we mean by life.
Yeah, this idea of joining.
In order to grasp what I'm trying to do
here, we start with a simple statement,
the outer world of sense and the inner
world of Spirit become one when Divine
Truth is the only consciousness.

(02:12):
Now we have to start to look at what it
is that we're calling Life.
In the Bible, it's described as Life is
hid with Christ in God.
Life must be understood as Spiritual,
purely Spiritual, Changeless, Perfect,

(02:33):
Whole, everywhere always.
What we're calling life is mental
material appearance.
The form isn't Life.
It's an appearance.
It's a reflection.
And the idea of joining

(02:54):
the form with the Life,
the connection is found in consciousness.
The idea here, we want to start to work
with initiation of the process.
And this begins with absent from the body
and present with the Lord.

(03:16):
In order to do this with any kind of
success, we really have to have the
mental landscape that will
support this Divine Idea.
Because most of what we are doing here is
going to be invisible and
intangible to corporeal sense.
In fact, anything that appears in the

(03:40):
corporeal senses is only an indicator,
noumena and phenomena, how
things appear and how they are.
Start with the Principle,
which is the Divine creation.
However, we know the Divine creation is
invisible and

(04:01):
intangible to corporeal sense.
But until we develop the faculty that
enables us to perceive the invisible and
intangible Spiritual creation, we work
with a belief in the invisible,
intangible Omnipresence.

(04:22):
Our intention here is to
link the form with the Life.
We want to find the coincidence that
happens between the human and the Divine.
Because what we are learning,
consciousness is experience.

(04:42):
Let's talk more about the phrase you said
earlier, absent from the
body and present with the Lord.
I have a few curiosities.
One of them is, why is it so hard for us
to be absent from the body where that's
really where we all are collectively?
Well, the main thing is because of the

(05:04):
framework, the nature of the beast.
Let's just look at fear.
Fear is one of the biggest motivators
today, primarily because we don't
understand fear is the defense mechanism
for the false sense of self.
And so in order for us to Know the Truth,

(05:25):
we really have to overcome this fear,
animal magnetism, preservation, survival,
what we would call our hormones.
Everything is set up in favor of us
believing this mental
material concept is real.
And we don't have the leadership and we

(05:48):
don't have initiation.
So you really have to
undertake this on your own.
And when you have a tried and true
system, say for example,
Kriya Yoga or even Christian Science as
taught by Mary Baker Eddy, you start to
see we must put these two together,

(06:10):
absent from the body,
present with the Lord.
But if you understand we're doing this in
order to get something, we want to
develop a faculty that enables us to
perceive the Truth, the Divine creation.
As Mary Baker Eddy wisely wrote, "you

(06:30):
can't put an infinite
mind in a finite form."
So in this show, we'll lay out a
procedure which follows her teaching
right down to her quoting Ralph Waldo
Emerson's "Hitch your wagon
to a star in Unity of Good."

(06:50):
And I'll read it.
"A LIE has only one chance of successful
deception,-- to be accounted true.
Evil seeks to fasten all error upon God
and so make the lie seem
part of eternal Truth.
Emerson says, "Hitch
your wagon to a star."
I say, Be allied to the deific power, and

(07:11):
all that is good will aid your journey,
as the stars and their
courses fought against Sisera.
Hourly, in Christian Science, man thus
weds himself with God.
Or rather he ratifies a union
predestined from all eternity;
but evil ties its wagon-load of offal to
the divine chariots,--
or seeks so to do,-- that its vileness may

(07:34):
be christened purity, and its darkness
gets consolation from
borrowed scintillations."
End of the quote.
Swami, what are your thoughts here?
Collectively, the tendency today is to
change thoughts into things.
And like we said in the opening, that
feeds the cycle of death and rebirth

(07:55):
because thoughts are dualistic.
Now in Divine Science
we must do the reverse.
We change things into thoughts.
And so in this process of shifting our
identity from mental-material to

(08:15):
Spiritual, we have to
take the sequential steps.
We start with the
form, the physical body.
And we know the physical body is the
manifestation of the mortal mind.
We also know Spirit is found before
thought and above corporeal sense.

(08:38):
Most of this gets a little confusing and
complicated because we're working with
thought and belief and we want to
graduate from thinking with five
corporeal senses to Knowing
with seven Spiritual senses.
What comes first?

(08:58):
The bird or the egg?
So here what we have to do is take the
physical form and now
convert that into a mental image.
And when you do this, I really like what
Emerson said, you hitch
your wagon to a star.
Now Mary Baker Eddy of course says we

(09:21):
want to be allied to the deific power.
We want to join with Spirit.
But you have to remember we're working
with a physical body that lives in fear
and it's looking for something visible
and tangible that it can join with in
order to find that feeling I'm okay to

(09:43):
validate this
insatiable need for approval.
So what we do here is hitch our wagon to
a star before we take that final joining
of Truth with Spirit.
Here we use the man, the bull, the lion
and the eagle to find in Revelation.

(10:06):
It gives you a mental image of one body
that is held, controlled and
governed by the Divine Law.
It is under the government of Divine
Mind, but it is a much more accurate
description for the Infinite Immortal

(10:27):
Spiritual body, which
is the body of Christ.
Then of course, once we have shifted our
identity from the form that's on the
planet into this heavenly image, seven
personal planets, 12 signs of the zodiac,
and we have the mental landscape now

(10:50):
starts to understand
what is meant by reflection.
Then from there, you are at the base camp
to this Spiritual climb.
You are before thought
and above corporeal sense.
So now you have a better
understanding of yourself.

(11:12):
And at the same time, you're still
working with the mind that can't bring
forth the Divine image, but you are in a
place where you will soon be able to walk
reason through this
open door of Revelation.
So Swami, I have a question about the
quote Mary Baker, he says, "But evil ties

(11:34):
its wagonload of offal
to the divine chariots."
It sounds like she's cautioning us about
making sure we understand what evil is
and that we don't confuse
that with Divine Principle.
Yeah, because that's the sin.
When we mistake the impermanent for the

(11:55):
Permanent, say, for example, even with
what I had just said, if that's as far as
you go as shifting your identity to this
mental image, you
haven't gone far enough.
We also have something here that Mary
Baker, Eddie wrote, because while the
world is changing thoughts into things,

(12:19):
we are aspiring to exchange the object
subsets for the Divine Idea.
Mary Baker, Eddie wrote, "In Science and
Health with Key to the
Scriptures," page 123, 11-15.
"The verity of Mind shows conclusively how
it is that matter seems to be but is not.

(12:42):
Divine Science, rising above physical
theories, excludes matter, resolves things
into thoughts, and replaces the objects
of material sense with
spiritual ideas." end of quote.
All right, so here is what I'm talking
about, this progression where our thought

(13:05):
is shifting from mental
material to Spiritual.
But if we don't master the mind-body
complex, if we don't work with ourselves
physically and mentally, I really like
the lesson Mary Baker, Eddie gave Martha
Wilcox, "Faithful and orderly with the

(13:27):
objects of sense make us receptive to the
deeper things of the Divine Principle."
So in this model, we do work with the
physical body and we do work with
educating our thought up to
Spiritual apprehension.
But it's not really about the body and

(13:47):
it's not about developing more human
intelligence, it's really about
graduating from thinking to Knowing and
living under the government of the Divine
Law and overcoming the belief in this
finite mortal sense of life which is

(14:07):
under the government of what seems to be
karmic law, material law.
Swami from what you're describing, it seems
the practice of the Kriya Yoga you teach
seems to have the steps we would need to
be able to do exactly what you're saying,
link the form to the Life, both

(14:28):
physically and mentally and Spiritually.
Yeah, it comes down to how
we think is what we become.
I even like what Mary Baker Eddy wrote
in "Rudimentary Divine
Science" and I'll read it.
"The thoughts of the practitioner should
be imbued with a clear conviction of the

(14:49):
omnipotence and omnipresence of God; that
He is All, and that there can be none
beside Him; that God is good, and the
producer only of good; and hence, that
whatever militates against health,
harmony, or holiness, is an unjust usurper

(15:11):
of the throne of the
controller of all mankind.
Note this, that if you have power in
error, you forfeit the power that Truth
bestows, and its salutary influence on
yourself and others."
End of quote.
Yeah, I definitely see the similarities

(15:32):
between the Christian Science Mary Baker
Eddy teaches and the Kriya Yoga we teach
because of this element
of purity, purification.
Purity in Kriya Yoga is your ability to
think, feel, say, do
one and the same thing.
The value of Christian Science is the

(15:52):
insistence on this purity of thought, the
understanding of the Divine Principle as
being Perfect everywhere always.
We're going to pause right
here to a word from our sponsor.

Welcome back.
For those who are just joining us, you're
listening to The Voice of Yoga, and we

(17:00):
are Talking Consciousness.
Swami I'd like to get talking more about how
we think is what we become.
We know thoughts are pretty important to
our Spiritual development.
Can you break this down for us?
Yeah, well like you're saying, thoughts,
however, don't go far enough.
We have to graduate

(17:21):
from thoughts to Ideas.
We can't stay in duality.
You can't bring forth this Divine image
if we continue to draw
from that which is in half.
You can't be Whole.
So it comes back to understanding the

(17:43):
complexity of things, understanding there
are modes of mortal thinking, three modes
of mortal thinking we have to master
before we can let Divine Mind take over
the scientific government of the body.
And even say, for example, like Mary
Baker Eddy says here, "resolves things

(18:06):
into thoughts and replaces the objects of
material sense with spiritual ideas."
So the world is busy changing thoughts
into things, but if all you're doing is
changing things into thoughts, you find
that you haven't gone far enough.

(18:27):
You're still going to be
under the law of karma.
You're not going to be under the
government and protection of Divine Law.
The term is called repent.
Think differently.
We have to turn from thinking with five
corporeal senses period and Knowing with
seven Spiritual senses.

(18:49):
Until we do that, we continue to
perpetuate the same level of
consciousness and degree of awareness
under karmic law, not Spiritual Law.
Swami, I realize what we need to do
here is change our
level of consciousness.

(19:10):
The next question is,
well, how do we do that?
Yeah, again, this is a process.
We begin with born-again of Spirit,
literally rebirthing your body in a
completely different sustenance.
Your body comes in, it looks for food,
mother, approval, it's looking for
something visible and

(19:30):
tangible for validation.
And so you purify the mind-body complex
and then you rebirth the body in the
invisible, intangible Divine
Omnipresence is where it begins.
Once matter and mind come together with
the invisible, intangible Omnipresence,

(19:51):
it releases a new power within you.
You now have the benefit of
what we call internal support.
You're no longer drawing off the outside
world, but you are connected to an
inexhaustible resource from within.
And so now you're pouring out.

(20:13):
There's a whole different exchange of
energy that takes place.
The two words to be analyzed carefully
are reflect and absorb or forgive and
forget, which can be further opened to
"for giving" and "for getting."

(20:35):
Spirit reflects and
mental-material absorbs.
So a good way of determining what am I
conscious of is what
is it I am attracted to?
Do I look for things visible and tangible
or invisible but tangible?

(20:55):
Or am I content with the invisible,
intangible Divine Omnipresence?
This is how you start to develop this
faculty to perceive the Divine creation.
So would you say a really good place for
us to really start when we look around

(21:15):
us, we need to see the nothingness of it
all and realize that
this is all an illusion?
Well, I think we also have to caution
ourselves with that because you can't
just deny the testimony of the senses.
Consciousness is experience.
You use the testimony of your corporeal

(21:37):
senses to give you clues as
to what you are conscious of.
We know all the good, beautiful and true
attributes belong to the Divine.
So we look for the coincidence that
happens between the human and the Divine.
If we are not getting the fruits of the
Spirit in our experiences, we must

(22:00):
understand why
consciousness is experience.
How I think is what I become.
If I am still thinking with a mortal
mind, if I'm still thinking in the realm
of duality, I will continue to draw the
good and bad, the nature of

(22:21):
the beast, which is duality.
It's driven by belief in two powers.
But like we have been saying, if the Lord
builds the house, then the
house will be built perfectly.
Divine Idea is not a
mix of good and evil.
Divine Idea is pure, Absolute Goodness.

(22:45):
But again, if I am thinking with a mortal
mind, I am producing the equal and the
opposite reactions,
the nature of that beast.
But when the Lord is doing Its thinking
in my awareness, then I should be
bringing forth the

(23:05):
Divine image and likeness.
And so rather than trying, striving,
struggling, seeking, planning, and
asking, you make your mind aware for this
invisible, intangible
Divine Omnipresence.
And in that Silence and Stillness, you
are filling your thought with the Divine

(23:28):
Idea and providing you're not interfering
with that, with your mental activity.
So being able to control how you think,
being able to stop thinking is paramount.
And the thing I like about the Kriya Yoga
is what we call pranayama, control of

(23:49):
prana, which is an activity and an
exercise where you develop the ability to
understand the relationship between
breathing and thinking, which becomes a
handle that enables you to start to work
with what is visible and tangible in
relation to what is invisible but

(24:11):
tangible, which then can lead to the
realization of that which
is invisible and intangible.
So Swami, I was thinking as you were
explaining it to us.
We also have to have an understanding of
what God is and what God isn't.

(24:32):
So can you maybe talk about how we really
should approach our thoughts about God?
Oh, exactly, because the orthodox
religious concept of
God is a contradiction.
The Old Testament is referring to the
Lord God, which is
karmic law, material law.

(24:55):
What we put out is what we
get back for every action.
There is an equal and
an opposite reaction.
Two things can't occupy the
same space at the same time.
Now, when you mistake that for what
should be considered
the Divine Principle, which is Absolute
Perfection, then you

(25:17):
don't have a Principle.
In order to make this work, you need the
Principle and the Rule.
To have a better understanding of this
Principle, I really like what Mary Baker
Eddy wrote in Science
and Health, page 269,
lines 9-20.

(25:40):
And I'll read it.
"Human philosophy has made God manlike.
Christian Science makes man Godlike.
The first is error, the latter is truth.
Metaphysics is above physics, and matter
does not enter into
metaphysical premises or conclusions.
The categories of metaphysics rest on one

(26:01):
basis, the divine Mind.
Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts
and exchanges the objects of
sense for the ideas of Soul.
These ideas are perfectly real and
tangible to spiritual consciousness, and
they have this, advantage over the objects
and thoughts of material sense.

(26:23):
They are good and eternal."
End of the quote.
Swami your thoughts on this.
Yeah, it's very important to understand
the difference
between thoughts and Ideas.
Thoughts are dualistic
and Ideas are Absolute.
They're Whole.

(26:45):
Spirit and the mental-material world of
energy are very different.
And once we come to the realization, the
only thing that is real is Spirit, then
we create this opportunity
for us to begin to graduate.

(27:06):
And live above corporeal sense and
eventually before thought, stopping
thinking and starting Knowing this Truth.
Swami we've been saying for quite some
time now, the outer world of sense and
the inner world of Spirit become one when

(27:26):
Divine Truth is the only consciousness.
Could you talk more about that?
Yeah,
it's a simple
statement, but an arduous task.
I like something here that Mary Baker
Eddy wrote in Science and Health with Key
to the Scriptures, page 586, 15-17.

(27:50):
And I'll read it.
"Firmament.
Spiritual understanding.
The scientific line of demarcation
between Truth and error, between Spirit
and so-called matter."
End of quote.
In Genesis, the firmament is between the
lower waters and the upper waters and can

(28:12):
be symbolized as the mountain.
I like to use the symbolism of the
transfiguration to help with the
understanding of the task involved in
developing the faculty to perceive the
upper waters of Spirit.
We really have to understand what is

(28:32):
meant by Jesus taking James, Peter, and
John to the Mountaintop
where Moses and Elijah appear.
Because this has a lot to do with this
linking the form with the Life, this
joining of Principle, Soul, Life, Love,

(28:53):
Mind, and then finally the joining of
Spirit with Truth, where we now are able
to Know the Truth that makes us free from
the belief in a finite,
temporary sense of existence.
