initiate this process.
Good morning, welcome to The Voice of
Yoga, Let's Talk Consciousness.
I am your hostess, Lisa Winton, and with
me is Kenny Toy, also known as Swami
Jayananda, founder of the Institute for
Personal Development, located here in
Hampton, New Hampshire.
(00:44):
Good morning, Swami.
Thank you for being here today.
How are you?
Good morning.
I'm doing pretty good today.
How about you?
I'm doing great today too.
Thanks for asking.
And we'd like to thank
you all for tuning in.
Today on The Voice of Yoga, we will talk
about embracing the idea of Oneness by
leaning on the sustaining Infinite and
experiencing the coincidence between the
(01:04):
human and the Divine.
Listen as we discuss the operations of
karmic law, which is driven by a belief
in two powers and why it isn't the Truth.
In this episode, we will explore the
methodology found in metaphysical and
mystical systems to initiate
the process from sense to Soul.

living in a new world.
Swami, I see the title today show is
Transcending the Belief in Opposites.
Where should we begin with this title?
Well, I think if we start with just the
title itself, the belief in opposites,
(01:48):
it's important to start to develop this
mental landscape that
will support the Divine Idea.
Spirit is One without opposite.
The Bible says not to make judgments.
To say things are good is just as much a
judgment as to say they are bad.
(02:10):
Or in Buddhism, the way they say it.
There is nothing difficult about the
Great Way, just stop having an opinion.
To move into a no-judgment zone, we rise
above duality, mental-material energy,
into the unity of Spirit
(02:32):
which is Absolute Goodness.
As Herb Fitch told us, "We must know we
are Christ, not in the world, while
appearing as form in the world."
To do this without contradiction, we
divide and conquer,
separate the wheat from the tares.
(02:54):
Then tell the truth about the lie and
tell the truth about the Truth.
Life is purely Spiritual.
This is the Truth about the Truth.
The mental-material world of energy is
not the Divine creation.
It is a mental concept about the Divine
(03:18):
creation, not
Self-Existent Power like Spirit.
It relies on belief for
its appearance of power.
What we're calling life isn't what Jesus
or the Bible was calling Life.
What Paul told us, "You are dead and your
(03:38):
life is hid with Christ and God."
So today, we really want to learn is some
methodology in how to transcend the
belief in the opposites.
That leads us right back to
what you had said earlier.
The Bible says not to make judgments.
And so we have here a verse from John
(04:00):
7:24 that Jesus had said, and I'll read
it, "Judge not according to the
appearance, but judge
righteous judgment."
So it sounds like we need to really know
the difference to be able
to discern what judgment is.
Can you go over that with us?
Yeah, this is what we
call dividing and conquering.
(04:22):
Knowing the difference between mental
-material, energy, which is a belief in two
powers under the government of what is
called material law or karmic law.
Spirit, on the other hand, is Absolute.
It's Whole, Complete.
Spirit can't be divided.
(04:43):
So when Jesus says to judge righteously,
he's really telling us to turn away from
the testimony of the corporeal senses,
which can't perceive the Divine creation.
The mortal mind works on contrast.
It only sees that which is in half.
(05:03):
And Divine Mind works
in terms of the Absolute.
It sees only that which is Whole.
To judge righteously is to see that which
is totally Whole, Complete.
There is no good and
evil world of energy.
It's a reflection, a concept, a belief
(05:25):
about what is really here and what is
backed by the Divine Principle.
Swami help us to understand when we are
not judging righteously, can you give us
some examples what that might look like?
Yes, say for example,
the ninth commandment.
(05:45):
Thou shalt not bear false
witness against thy neighbor.
False witness is the witness we bear with
our five corporeal senses.
I saw you steal the purse.
Now in Spiritual reality, there is no
such thing as gain and loss.
(06:06):
In Spiritual Truth,
everything rests in Perfect Divine unity
and it can't be divided.
So what is it that we see when we see
somebody take something from someone else
but our human concept about it?
It is world thought, broadcast and
(06:26):
televised and then received
and accepted as my thought.
But all we have to know
is it's not the Truth.
God did not make anything that can be
stolen, that can die.
The Divine creation, remember, is
Perfect, Changeless, Whole,
complete.
(06:47):
But to perceive it, we have to develop
the faculty that enables us to receive
Divine inspiration called the Mind of
Christ in the Bible.
Without the Mind of Christ, there's no way
of us Knowing the
Divine creation or the Truth.
And until we have Divine inspiration or
(07:09):
revelation, we're really
working with human conjecture,
human concepts, theories, beliefs, but
none of them will demonstrate.
That's the beauty of Divine Science.
Is Divine Science doesn't
accept the theory, the concept.
(07:30):
It is purely Scientific
in that it must be proven.
We must demonstrate.
And our purpose for this incarnation is
to glorify the Creator.
We do that, as John told
us, is in Spirit and in Truth.
Not by doing what I think God wants me
(07:52):
to, but by me being a transparency where
the Divine Principle can do its Knowing
through my appearance.
Swami let's dive a little bit deeper by
discussing the operations of karmic law.
(08:13):
Yeah, karmic law, material
law is all cause and effect.
What we put out is what we get back.
And for every action there is an equal
and an opposite reaction.
This is an important thing to understand.
Its why in the Bible it says, "Except the
Lord build the house, they
(08:34):
labor in vain that build it."
Because if you do something with human
will and personal sense, it can be done
for good or for bad
because you are under karmic law.
The belief into powers.
When you transcend the limits of the
opposites and you know the Truth, you now
(08:56):
live under Spiritual Law.
The power of One without opposite.
Eternal Life, Absolute Goodness without
the complementary,
unmanifested other part.
Why it's so important for us to stop
trying, striving, struggling, seeking,
(09:17):
planning, even asking.
Why in the Bible it
says, "Ask in my name."
My name means my likeness as Spiritual
identity, in Oneness.
There aren't many Spirits.
We don't all have our own Spirit.
It's one being everywhere always.
(09:41):
This sounds like you were just talking
about what it's like to embrace this idea
of Oneness by leaning on
the sustaining Infinite.
Can you give us more information on what
it would be like to experience the
coincidence between
the human and the Divine?
What does that look like?
In this model the purpose of the
(10:01):
corporeal sense mind is the check engine
light on the dashboard of consciousness.
It's the monitor on the computer.
Without the testimony of our corporeal
senses, there's no way of us knowing what
we are conscious of or
knowing how we are thinking.
There are modes of thinking, three modes
(10:24):
of mortal thought in terms of duality.
And then there is Divine Mind operating
in the Absolute under Divine Law.
And we can't serve two masters.
We are either under
karmic law or under Divine Law.
Under karmic law you will
(10:46):
find there is finite good.
It is the tree of good and evil.
So there's good and there's bad.
But all the good has the complementary
unmanifested bad part that comes with it.
Once we learn how to stop manufacturing
(11:06):
this good and evil concept and rise above
the belief in duality, we come out of the
cycle of death and rebirth.
And we do this by Knowing the Truth.
God is running a Perfect
universe everywhere always.
(11:27):
Knowing I am the reflection of an
indestructible Principle.
So it's one thing to say I am Spirit, I
Know the Truth and get an outcome.
You could say I Know the Truth, I'm sick,
I have a physical ailment and I asked God
to cure it and it went away.
(11:49):
That's all well and good but it may not
necessarily be the same as
having Truth in consciousness.
Even though you look for the coincidence
between the human and the Divine in the
testimony of your corporeal senses, what
we really are looking for is
(12:09):
Divine Truth in consciousness.
The thing that you do know is if you are
experiencing sickness, suffering,
disease, lack, limitation, you know
you're not conscious of Divine Truth.
But if you're experiencing what Mary
Baker Eddy called a period of mental
(12:30):
exhilaration where you have no pain and
everything seems to be going great, you
could be further from Divine Truth than
if you were sick, suffering and in lack.
So there are other significators that you
may want to start to employ beyond the
coincidence between
(12:51):
the human and the Divine.
Things like out of time, out of space,
the idea of instantaneous
healing without a relapse.
In Spirit there is no opposition.
So we're really looking for the Divine
qualities, peace, love, joy, goodness,
(13:14):
kindness, gentleness, faithfulness,
patience, temperance we experience in our
sense-level testimony, then the more
confidence we establish in this leaning
on the sustaining Infinite, not just
thinking about the Divine Principle,
which is not Christian
(13:36):
Science, not Divine Science.
It is a human concept about it.
But when you're able to stop forming
thoughts and opinions based on
information coming through your corporeal
senses and make your mind an avenue of
awareness for the Omnipresence of the
Divine Principle and you let Divine Mind
(13:59):
do Its Knowing in your awareness and
you're seeing it appear in your corporeal
senses, this is what Mary Baker Eddy
would call inspiration and demonstration.
We're going to pause right
here to hear from our sponsor.
Listeners, we'll be back
with you in just a few moments.

Welcome back.
For those who are just joining us, you're
listening to The Voice of Yoga and we are
(15:25):
Talking Consciousness.
Swami, you had said earlier that the
mental-material world
of opposites is the lie.
But then I was thinking about the Herb
Fitch quote, "We must know we are Christ,
not in the world, while
appearing as form in the world."
The end of that quote.
So that second part, "while appearing as
form in the world," to me is saying that
(15:45):
obviously is in the mental-material
world, which would be the opposites.
So us appearing as form must be the lie.
Can you expand upon that?
Yeah, I think that's exactly right.
We have to start to learn the mental
-material concept isn't real.
God didn't make this world.
The misconception, "God made this,"
(16:08):
doesn't enable you to have a Principle.
It is a contradiction.
Once you educate thought up to Spiritual
apprehension, you have a
concept that will be provable.
For example, Divine Truth in
consciousness resolves things into
(16:29):
thoughts and exchanges the objects of
sense for the Divine Idea.
The chemicalization Mary
Baker Eddy talked about.
But not the same when living out from a
mental-material basis as from living out
from a Spiritual basis.
To transcend the belief in the opposites,
(16:52):
we have to resolve the physical body into
a mental image capable of
receiving Divine Revelation.
When Herb Fitch says, "We are Christ,"
understand what is meant by Christ.
Christ is the saving aspect of Truth, the
Son of God, the Messiah.
(17:13):
To graduate from thinking about it and
talking about it to Knowing it.
We have to convert this physical body we
are calling a form in earth into a mental
image closer to heaven.
In Revelations they use the man, the
bull, the lion and the eagle.
In Kriya Yoga we use the seven personal
(17:36):
planets, the twelve signs of the zodiac.
This lifts your identity from the form on
the planet into a larger sense of self,
one body and we all
have this same one body.
And then you have a better understanding
of what Mary Baker Eddy meant by we are a
(17:57):
reflection of the Divine.
Everything on the
earth is just a reflection.
Now once you learn how to transcend or
transform, then practice this methodology
and rise into this larger sense of self.
(18:18):
You have just changed the physical body
into a mental image that would be
considered the body of Christ and in the
body of Christ you can
put the Mind of Christ.
We can't put an Infinite Mind in a finite
form so if you don't rise into this
(18:38):
larger sense of self and you stay down on
the planet, then you wind up trying to
pull God down to your
level which can't be done.
Like Jesus said, to rise.
But what does that mean?
What does that look like when I rise into
a mental image capable of
(19:01):
receiving Divine Revelation?
And so you practice.
And once you have overcome the three
modes of mortal thinking and you have
also developed the faculty that enables
you to perceive the Divine Revelation.
This is a process where we graduate from
(19:22):
unconscious awareness to self-conscious
awareness to super-conscious awareness.
From caterpillar to
chrysalis to butterfly.
Or as the Bible says, born of woman, born
of man, born of Spirit.
This is how you initiate this process.
And then what's the evidence procedure
(19:43):
that accompanies it?
I know we talk a lot about what is said
in the Bible about sowing to the flesh
and sowing to the Spirit and that to me
talks to living in the mental-material
world or living in the Spiritual world.
Can you talk about
that a little bit more?
Yeah, if we draw from fear and limitation
(20:04):
duality, that's what we become.
This is the physics of Spirituality.
If you draw from Truth and Wholeness,
that's what you become.
Realize if you are in a physical form,
that physical form has a pattern.
It comes in and it looks for something
visible and tangible for validation.
(20:27):
It's like attracts like.
We have to refine that physical form and
then internalize the invisible intangible
Divine Omnipresence in order to initiate
the progress of cycle.
Rebirth the body in the
invisible intangible Spirit.
Once matter and mind come together with
(20:48):
Spirit, the panel's wired.
That's the birth of
Christ in consciousness.
I like this story.
Jesus says in the book of John where he
talks about a kernel of wheat.
If it doesn't die, it lives alone.
But if it dies, then it bears fruit.
The idea we have to give up the personal
(21:10):
sense of self, then rebirth the body in
this larger sense of self, become
receptive to the message of the invisible
intangible Divine creation.
And it's like you said, living by grace
means sowing to the
Spirit and not to the flesh.
(21:30):
The knowledge of the One
dissolves the belief in the many.
The realization of the great I am reveals
the Truth about Life.
There's only One and it's Perfect,
Eternal, Changeless, Whole.
Consciousness is experience and conscious
awareness of Divine Truth must resolve
(21:52):
things into thoughts and exchange the
objects of sense for the Divine Idea.
So don't accept anything less than the
coincidence between
the human and the Divine.
Mental-material absorbs and is for getting
and Spirit reflects and is for giving.
(22:16):
So you change the exchange of energy you
have once you have rebirthed the body in
the new source of sustenance, no longer
drawing in, seeking, searching, looking.
You are now pouring out because you have
connected to something that is pure,
(22:37):
powerful, sacred and inexhaustible.
So Swami, now let's talk more about the
idea of transcending
the belief in opposites.
What does that look like when we do it?
Yeah, for me transcend means rise above
and to transcend the belief in the
opposites, rise into the One.
(23:01):
Born of Spirit is what Jesus called this
and when unboxed we see it is a process
like caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly or
separation, journey, return.
Born of woman, born of man, born of
Spirit is the sequence in the Bible but
without born of Spirit
(23:22):
there is no born of man.
I like the way Mary Baker Eddy wrote
about this in Science and Health with
Key to the Scriptures on page 115:12-3.
"Scientific Translation of Immortal Mind.
God (23:41):
Divine Principle, Life,
Truth, Love, Soul, Spirit, Mind.
Man (23:49):
God's spiritual idea,
individual, perfect, eternal.
Idea (23:55):
an image in Mind.
The immediate object of understanding.
--Webster.
Scientific Translation of Mortal Mind.
First Degree (24:07):
depravity. Physical.
Evil beliefs, passions and appetites,
fear, depraved will, self-justification,
pride, envy, deceit, hatred, revenge,
sin, sickness, disease, death.
Second Degree (24:24):
evil beliefs
disappearing. Moral. Humanity, honesty,
affection, compassion, hope, faith,
meekness, temperance.
Third Degree (24:37):
Understanding.
Spiritual. Wisdom, purity,
spiritual understanding, spiritual power,
love, health, holiness.
In the third degree, mortal mind
disappears and man, as
God's image, appears.
Science so reverses the evidence before
(24:59):
the corporeal human senses, as to make
this Scriptural
testimony true in our hearts.
"The last shall be first and the first
last," so that God and His idea may be to
us what divinity really is and must of
necessity be,-- all-inclusive."
(25:20):
End of quote.
Here she's talking about thinking with
what we will call the lower mind, her
first degree, depravity.
Then you go to the second degree, which
would be the mid-mind.
Graduate to human intelligence and then
moral, the higher mind, living under a
(25:44):
code of ethics in
accordance with universal order.
We have educated our thought up to
Spiritual apprehension.
This is what we would call born of man.
And then the third degree, which is
graduate from the modes of mortal
thinking to Divine Mind.
(26:06):
Divine Mind does not think
in terms of the rational.
It's not in duality.
It doesn't see
anything other than the Whole.
It sees the Divine creation.
And what we do is we stop forming
thoughts and opinions based on
information coming through our corporeal
(26:27):
senses and we reflect the
Divine image and likeness.
In that Silence and Stillness, we let
Divine Mind do Its
Knowing in our awareness.
Swami, how can we rise above the
belief in the opposites?
To transcend karmic law requires all you
(26:49):
have with Scientific methodology, some
Scriptural scenarios to help explain the
magnitude of transcendence.
We could look at some things found in the
Bible, the Transfiguration where Jesus
takes James, Peter, and John to the
(27:10):
mountaintop, where Moses and Elijah
appear, the Resurrection of Lazarus, the
sisters alert Jesus,
Jesus waits four days.
Lazarus is buried in the tomb.
Jesus goes to Bethany.
Martha greets Jesus.
Martha gets Mary.
(27:31):
Mary greets Jesus.
The sisters show Jesus where Lazarus is
buried and Jesus calls
Lazarus out of the tomb.
These are all great stories that we could
start to learn how to
put the pieces together.
Once you start to realize they're really
talking about these facets and aspects of
(27:57):
the inner environment, initially the
human experience where you take
Principle, Soul, Life, Love to the
mountaintop, then
Truth and Spirit appear.
Or this idea that Jesus is Christ.
(28:17):
Lazarus is the
purified human consciousness.
Martha is the physical form.
Mary is the mortal mind.
And so Martha goes out and greets Jesus.
It's attuning the
physical body to the Divine Idea.
Mary goes out and greets Jesus.
(28:38):
You're attuning the
mortal mind to the Divine Idea.
All of this is preparation so that Christ
can call the purified human
consciousness out of the tomb.
Now the Lazarus that goes into the tomb
is not the same as the
Lazarus that comes out.
Once we experience this shift from a
(29:01):
mental-material basis to a Spiritual
basis and we are now walking in the
kingdom of heaven on earth because we
Know the Truth that makes us free from
the belief in the opposites.
