Channel 3. Is the future

(00:29):
Welcome crew to Warrior 3A Channel 3 podcast where we take
a member of the Channel 3 community, discuss three games
of their choosing, go through some honorable mansions and some
other odds and ends for a nice little video game discussion.
I'm Dan with me as always, Ray. It's me, I'm here.
What's going on, people? Tonight's guest.
Well, it's it's Mr. Mr. AG himself, Jay Chismad.

(00:53):
Jay, how are you doing tonight? I'm all right.
It's funny to be referred to as Mr. AG because my wife has left
such an impression. That's this is this is what you
did you. I know.
Hey, I love it. I love that she's making a name
for herself. That's awesome.
She led the way and now that's that's, that's who you are now.
You told, you told her, you toldher it was her, you told her.

(01:15):
Here's her thing, you let her goand here's what happened.
Came in and you didn't even get your own screen name anymore.
I'm not even mad, I'm impressed. We've got a whole bunch.
Of games. We got a bunch of games to talk
about, Dan. Yeah, let's, let's get, let's
get into them then. And we're going to start with
the legend of the See, this is where I was going to mess
something up. And the legend of Zay of the.

(01:37):
Legend of Zay. The Legion of Zeal Ball.
Field indeed. Majora's Mask.
That five hours right asleep catches up with you.
That's all it comes. Down to actually, I see that,
but I mean, you're performing fantastically.
The problem is that you're wearing a snow cap and it's it's
August. It, you know, it's kind of a
little hot. I just like it and I'm gonna

(01:59):
roll with it because it's the only half of my head sitting in
front of me when I was like, I need a hat because otherwise
I've got this spotlight above myhead and it reflects off of the
bald and it just jacks everything up so.
Oh man, yeah, we can't. I haven't.
I have not brought myself. I tried shaving it once.
I have a super Flathead. Can't do it.
I feel like I keep going back but.
You just, you just accept it cause at some point you walk

(02:20):
under a closed circuit TV cameraand you look up like who's that
bald mofo that I'm looking at there and you realize, oh,
that's me. Well, apparently Hector doesn't
have that issue. I don't like me and you, Dan.
We got a piece of a pod. You.
Accept the phrases. All right, well.
Well, your first game tonight, The Legend of Zelda, Majora's
Mask. And we're, we're going to the

(02:42):
hipster pick right off the bat for the, the Zelda series.
And I'm not judging when I say that I just, you know, there's,
there's classifications and I, this is almost like my
personality test for people thatI can make judgements based
based upon that. But what I have to ask first and
foremost and most importantly, is, was this an N64 or a 3DS

(03:02):
pick? Oh N64 you kidding me?
I listen, I have to ask. I, you know, I'm an older guy.
It could go either way. These days, no N64 all the way.
And let me say too, I'm I'm a little concerned about the
hipster pick there, but the onlyreason that game is as good as
it is is because of Ocarina of Time.

(03:23):
So let me throw that out there. I got to give props to that game
as well because it wouldn't be what it is without Ocarina of
Time. So I always want to know because
we just tell people, you know, we, we, we never say what are
your three favorite games of alltime?
Or we never, we never give a theme.
We say whatever you want to do, you can do.
And a lot of times it's three favorites and that's fine.
But like, I'm always curious how, what, what put something at

(03:43):
the number one? Oh yeah, I know for sure.
Majora's Mask is by far the gamethat I could play over and over
and over again, no questions asked.
I could play that game 5000 times, still be happy with it,
still be happy with the music, still be happy with the graphics
and still be happy with the lorethat I'm like, OK, is Link
really dead here? Or is he, you know, alive?

(04:04):
And this is just a second seasonafter everything that happened
to Ocarina. Like everything about that game
makes me happy, just quite honestly.
And so I could play it a milliontimes and still be happy with
the puzzles, be it, still be happy with everything.
That's why I chose Majora's Mask.
Jacob's Ladder broke everything for humanity in the heart.
She couldn't just have somebody suffer a head wound or suffer an

(04:25):
injury of some sort with this all right now, are they dead the
entire time or not? Which is?
Which is, that is the question, right?
I like to think he is. I like to think he died.
That is him coming to terms in his final moments that he has
passed through the arch and thisis him reliving everything and
finding peace with everything that he is before the final

(04:46):
release. Finishing all of his unfinished
business. That's right.
Totally. Over and over and over.
Again, yes, that's why a Canna Canyon is near the and that's my
thought process anyway. And that's why he fights the
ghost there at the end. Child death, that's the way we
go with this. Hell yeah, But he lived.
He. Lived 2 lifetimes at least, so
it's all good. Yeah, well, more than that, but
yeah. Especially the time you get

(05:06):
through this game. So that's right.
See how many how many times you've played this do you think?
At least 10 and I mean like full100% completion.
I love that game. Every nook, cranny, and corner
of. Yes, and all the videos that say
you can do this this way and that that way.
And this is weird lore. Like, I love that game,

(05:26):
undoubtedly with all my heart, so that's why I chose it.
This was a game. I had a yellow legal pad next to
me for that. I kept track of days and times
of when things. Do you even need that at this
point? Do you have it basically just in
your head or? You have the bomber book for
that man. Why do you need a notepad?
Cuz what's the wait? Cuz I just want to have it like
I I need it easily referenced that's.

(05:47):
All all right fair enough well that's that's why the bomber
book is there and then the 3DS makes it even easier.
So if you do go back and play iton 3DS, if you haven't, that's
great. That's the.
Reason I asked. I've heard nothing but good
things. Yeah, my son picked that up at
some point. Hasn't hasn't cracked the 3DS
version yet, But like it's I haven't I've got a 2DS.
I can, I can go do it. I just need to.

(06:08):
You should, it's worth it in my mind anyways, but I love the
game so I'm biased. So I have to ask, did the moon
freak you out as a child? Not if you're a child when you
played this thing, because that thing is creepy.
No, the moon didn't creep me outat all.
I'll be honest with you, the thing that got me worse than
anything in the game, and I mean, I guess I'm being

(06:29):
recorded, so whatever. But like to the point of tears,
OK, Like to the point where I cried right as a kid and my
parents were like, what's wrong? What's going on at?
The Doctor. They're right.
Exactly. Like what's this kid's insane?
No, in the moon, when you're theGoron and you've got all the
masks and you're doing one of those challenges, you Goron, you

(06:50):
spin up and you go forward. I kept trying to turn with the
turns and literally could not doit because you're just supposed
to go straight. You're just supposed to hold it,
not just you don't. Get it?
There's not a turning radius. On that right, you just go, it
bounces you, you go forward. But me being like probably 9 at
the time got so frustrated I started crying with this game

(07:13):
that I literally got what's the word not banned that bans not
the word grounded from the N64 because I was so emotional over
this game. So yes no that got me worse than
anything. The moon didn't bother me at
all, quite honestly. But you need you needed some
space. That's the important part.
Apparently. So there are lots of oddities

(07:36):
and curiosities throughout this, some of which are just kind of
funny to look at and they kind of they kind of go past and
others you have to really you get to search some of them out
too. I just just curious like what
sticks out for you from this game because there are things
that will that just stick in your craw.
The one that probably got me theworst is like, as a kid, you

(07:57):
want everything to be permanent,right?
Like, you get a sword, you keep the sword.
Fine. Yeah, great.
Right. The razor edged sword.
You can only use it so many times before it goes back to the
normal sword. That one stuck in my craw
because I remember the first time that it went back to the
normal sword you have, I was like, what the crap?

(08:18):
Are you serious? We really have to go back
through this again and until youget the gold dust and all that.
But that was probably the most outstanding point in that game
that I was just like, come on. Really, they said.
What if we take that mechanic and make it everything right in
the future? Yep.
And you know, I struggled with that, with Breath of the Wild

(08:39):
and Here's the Kingdom. But I get it now.
Now I get it. Had had you played Zelda games
coming in? Like had you played Ocarina
before? Before this.
I started with the very first Legend of Zelda.
My dad claims we played it on DOS systems but I don't really
remember that. The statue of limitations is up.
We're good. We're good.

(08:59):
Never. Mind.
OK, that's fair. But seriously, I NES is where I
played that originally and then and that and Adventures of Link.
The second one. I never actually played Link to
the past until years, years, years later, I think on the
Gameboy Advance. But yeah, no, I started with the

(09:19):
first. That's right, because they did
that as a they did that in the Four Swords combined.
For the I think that's the firsttime I've played that.
Which is on the IT is on the Gameboy.
Yeah, certainly don't switch online now so people can
experience that. I've never done the Four Swords
thing, so I've got to. We may need to check that out.
Yes, Wanda, game on. Not so much.

(09:39):
Just leave CDI to itself. You know what, I I did it.
I did it not long ago. There was an aviation machine
somewhere. I went, I was like, I just have
to see how terrible was it. Worth.
It it's literally unplayable if you have not, if you have not
done it. I I could not get through the
like opening side scrolling. Bizarre.
That is, the only two Zelda games that I have not played are

(10:01):
the CDI ones and I kind of refuse.
Sorry I. Had I had to do it just so I'm
like I've got access to CDI games.
I don't know when I will ever when it will ever do this again.
And my God it was. It lives up to the hype of just.
How I believe that. So come on, Princess.
Yeah, it's, it's rough. So Yep.

(10:21):
So you're coming into this one. Did did you were you of an age
where you got to see kind of like the the demo videos and the
the Nintendo Power and Game Pro?She had no idea what you were
coming into with this game. What I got was a preview from
my, my brother's 10 years older than me.
So I often, me and him were veryclose.

(10:42):
So we, you know, I seem older than I am most of the time
because we were so close. So his best friend bought the
game, brought it over and that was my first preview into it.
And immediately I'm like, what? There's a time aspect.
There's all this other stuff, there's new crap and like we
were all about Ocarina of Time and to the point where I like
idolize my brother because he was the first one to beat it.

(11:05):
So as soon as I saw Madrid Doorsmask, I was obsessed.
So that was my first foray into it.
Yeah. So it's just you just knew you
were coming into it and suddenlylike, OK, all these elements are
here and you've got to. I was.
Excited. It's an entirely different place
to like, am I getting another Zelda game?
Because like, you know, I, I, you had not done Link to the

(11:25):
past, but like, you know, you went Link to the because you go
Link to the past. It's like a, a linear but open
game. You go Ocarina, that's a linear
but open game. You're like, no, there's a
progression and a path that you follow.
Yeah. No, no, no, no, no.
Now it's good luck. Figure it out.
I but I appreciated it. I appreciated the change like a
lot of people threw that and threw them off and I get it.

(11:46):
I totally get it, but I really enjoyed that aspect and after
you figure out a couple small things, it's like kind of
minimal in the game, right? Like slowing down time all
right, well, you have plenty of time to do stuff now you do have
to start over and you have to figure out when stuff happens in
this, but I love it. It's different.
It's not the same. And yeah, I really feel like
they perfected a lot of stuff with Majora's Mask.

(12:10):
Favorite power? Favorite mask ability?
Mask ability, I mean, just for the aspect of functionality,
because I'm a very utilitarian person.
The Bunny mask. Sorry, you know.
I no, I'm with you. That's absolutely my answer.
I thought you were going to go with one of the the big three,
but no, the Bunny, the Bunny ears and the speed you get to

(12:32):
move just quickly. It's just you need it at some
point you just need to be able to.
Move. It's easy to get early on.
And yeah, and you wish it would have happened in Ocarina Time.
Like, you get that. I still go back and play that
game and I'm like, oh, am I gonna move faster?
Nah, same thing. You just have cute Bunny ears.
You wait till you get a pony in that.
In in that, Yeah, right. Ocarina.

(12:52):
That's the. That's the key.
It's true. How about the final boss battle?
Because this is one. This is one that like
cinematically sticks in my head.Yeah, just like Oh no, the the
the N64 Zelda games because likethey're effectively the same
like build the same engine and they're like just contained in a

(13:13):
small cube. They this was this is also one
of like very what was it two or three games that actually needed
the the? Yeah, the extension the yeah,
like it made the RAM more whatever, like it was 3.
It was it was this perfect Dark and Donkey Kong, I think were
the three games that needed it. I don't think there were any
others I don't believe. No.

(13:35):
We're not. That was correct.
It was. It was I.
Bought Donkey Kong for this and Donkey Kong 64 was almost up
there on my list. I just want to throw that out
there. That game is amazing.
Collect a thon as all but whatever.
OK, so the final boss battle, right?
I love that it's in the moon andI love that it different from

(13:55):
Ocarina of Time that you can beat him, you can go the hard
way. You can beat him without the,
without the. Masks.
Everything right without what isthe the Infinity mask or
whatever it is Sorry, I can't think right now, but the the all
coming mask right Once you get all 30 you can beat him without
that and that's totally doable. It's not too bad, but if you get

(14:18):
that, then it's even easier and I love that duel happening
there. I also love right before the
final boss battle, if you have all the masks.
You get a different ending if you have all the masks like
that. To me, that was one of my first
experiences with that, where youhad all these different endings,
or at least a couple different endings versus Ocarina Time.

(14:40):
That's it. You show up, you do your thing,
that's it, and it's still awesome.
Please do not. I'm not dimensioning it, but it
was different depending on what you did throughout the game.
I I just love how it's captured in Smash Brothers Ultimate.
They make sure they get the theyget the visual lights.
That's right. Your second game on the docket,

(15:02):
an entirely different direction here.
As we go to Earthbound, we go tosee a hamster would have called
it Mother 2. So I didn't call you a hipster
about this one. This is.
Not fair enough. This is not no and I didn't.
What I tell you about his head, I didn't know.
What I tell you about his headphones.
See. It's headphones.
Yeah, he. Was trying to be so I'm gonna
call them. I'm gonna leave even here, gonna

(15:23):
leave it. And doesn't miss it.
Happens all the time I think. I actually do think I need to
get new headphones there. It's been a weekly occurrence
for the last like 4 weeks now. They're dying.
I'm gonna. I'm gonna do a plug for
Soundcore here. The Soundcore Q 20s have 40
hours of battery life. You.
Know these headphones cost me like 20 bucks.
They're only like 30. That's what I'm saying.

(15:43):
They're great. Hold on a second.
Make it make a note. I gotta make a note when I'm
editing this. I gotta look into this place.
I might need that. Oh, oh, just, well, while I'm
talking, we have to always, always have to shout out the
the, you know, the expansion pack, which is a humongous jump
in memory for four entire megabytes.
You need to. The amount back in the day.

(16:05):
I'm talking the amount they landed on the moon with I think,
right? That's right, 4.
Megabytes and also the 4th game that never happened.
Dinosaur planets, that was. Yes, that turned into Starfox's.
Adventures on the GameCube. Which was also a.
Great game. Great, great game.
All right game. Let's continue with Earthbound.
Whatever. My man yes.

(16:25):
All right, so Earthbound, come on.
If you have not played this game, anybody listening to this
go out download the ROM. I don't care but.
It's on. It's on the online, it's.
Easy. It's on the online.
Yeah, that's easy. OK.
Go do. It it's worth it if you don't
like turn base, go try it. It'll make you at least a little
more soft to turn base. It's still a little rough, don't

(16:47):
get me wrong, but it's amazing. And the 80s to 90's pop culture
that's referenced in it, yes. See, that's why I was wondering
like, so did you play this one in your youth as well?
Like where were you at? OK, I was probably. 18 when I
first played this one, and basedon a friend who's again, I have
a lot of friends that are older,so he was about 10 years older

(17:10):
than me, but he was like, what the crap?
You've never played Earthbound? And I was like, what's
Earthbound? And he showed it to me.
I played through it, and now it's a yearly thing.
I play it through it almost every year.
It's amazing. And honestly, the reason that I
think I take to it so much is because of Pokémon Yellow.
That was my first RPG, as is a lot of people's, and so I got

(17:31):
used to the turn based. I loved it.
Then I went to Final Fantasies and then I finally went to
Earthbound and I was like, oh man, this is a gem.
So that's why I love Earthbound.Just continue to explore that
Super Nintendo era of role. Playing yes, I love them.
I love them. It was so much imagination
because you didn't have the hardware to just have all these

(17:52):
fancy graphics. You had to have a good story.
You had to have good programmingand everything else.
Like I love the Super Nintendo era because of that.
See, the only reason I asked agewas not any kind of ageist kind
of only because like there is there are, to your point, like
pop culture references. And more importantly, there's
like a really there's a gnarly sense of humor to the game.

(18:14):
Not like, you know, super dark or anything like that, but
there's a very like joke about the American's sense of humor to
this game. And I feel like my there there's
a pre Monty Python era of humor for me and a post Monty Python
era that like I felt like when Iwent back to the game, I was
like, oh wait, I see what's going on here now.

(18:35):
And I get this isn't a weird translation.
This isn't like no, they're making jokes and they are taking
cracks and cracks and stuff and having some fun.
And like, even having the Blues Brothers in the game, but not
calling them the Blues Brothers.I'm like, come on, Like, it's
great. John Belushi, there's your
quest. For the day you got your your
your cameo. For the day the the Faux Blues

(18:57):
Brothers. Oh, is that a?
Is that a game? That's the that's the you got to
check today's quests of the day.You got to get in there.
And there's your there's your easy answer.
You got time still, you're all good.
So just once. You're done.
I'll do it. Yes.
Get in there and do that for theday that's.
Heck yeah, but yes. OK, so you went into this after
the fact, did you then have you gone to Mother Well now

(19:19):
Earthbound Beginnings and Motherthree since then?
Earthbound beginnings, yes. And look, it's great.
I enjoyed it, but. It's a struggle.
It's a struggle. There's a reason they didn't
release it over here, Yeah. And not like the lost level
struggle where it's like, OK, you probably could have done
that. Now you.
Dumb Americans can't, can't keepup with this.

(19:40):
Yeah, there were. There were holes in it.
Yeah, yeah, and honestly, they captured half or more of the
game in Earthbound anyways. Mother 2 if you want so it's
like you didn't miss a lot unless you're a die hard fan
where you're like OK, how did this begin?
And then you go back to Earthbound beginnings and then
you're like OK, I see where a lot of the sketches happened, if

(20:03):
you will, to the Mother 2 Earthbound game.
I have not played Mother three. Call me what you will about a
fan, but I have not I'm. I'm not judging, I haven't
either. I've I have kind of learned
everything I can about the game.I just like someday, someday
perhaps they will they will grant us the ability to play
this game. I still don't know in in the

(20:23):
year of our Lord 2025 why that has not Why has this not
happened And and maybe just thatyou wanted died and that was the
only chance we had was this like.
You want me to be honest here, Dan?
Oh boy. Spicy take.
Oh no, spicy take indeed. And maybe you want to edit this
out for Nintendo's sake, but nobody's done it already.

(20:47):
That's why it's not already overhere.
Earthbound Beginnings, a group of fans literally recreated
everything from Japanese and made the ROM.
And then Nintendo's like, oh, you know what?
No, yeah, yeah, we can throw this up here.
That's. Fine.
Nobody's done that with Mother Three.
Yeah. So that's.
Oh, it exists. It exists out there.
They they exist. Sure.
Yeah. Oh, no.

(21:07):
Yeah, They, they, they, it's, it's out there in abundance.
And like the, Yeah, it's, it's the same weird thing that like,
so you, you mentioned with like Earthbound beginnings, like they
developed that for the Nintendo and the Nintendo could not
handle what they were trying to do.
And they kind of put it togetherwith duct tape and band aids
and, and called it a day. And then like Mother 3 was

(21:30):
supposed to be a Nintendo 64 game that they spent, they spent
a long time developing for the Nintendo 64 because again, this
was Iwata's like he was pushing a lot of this and he wanted to
run the place. So he like, you know, the guy
had Miyamoto. Him and Miyamoto were the 2 like
powerhouses. They pull it, they pull it back,

(21:52):
they strip it, they, they strip it down and they put it out for,
for the advance, but only in Japan.
It like, so it's just, it's, it's bizarre and like, it's a,
it's a better story. Like it's it's so I again, I've
just I've watched and I've absorbed everything I can about
it, figuring like I'm not gonna have time to play this.

(22:12):
I have to accept this in my lifeand it is what it is.
And like, no, I want people to just experience the final boss
battle in that game and whatnot.Right.
But like Earth bounds got the same thing.
Like there's just this stuff, like there's these things,
patterns, these. Yeah, like.
Come on, like no. Earthbound's a great game, great
story, lots of satire. I love any game with satire.

(22:32):
I don't know if you guys have like watched the new K Pop Demon
Hunters show either. Sorry, random reference.
I've caught I've caught about 30% of it so far in pieces as my
daughter and her friends are taking over my house.
My man, please watch it, you will appreciate every bop that's
on that I'll be. There.
I'll be there in a couple of weeks, apparently when the Sing
Along theatrical release happensand I have to take the kids in

(22:55):
my neighborhood to. And then Dan will be a, you
know, K pop Demon Hunter fangirlfrom here on forward.
But I'm telling you, it's amazing.
He's like, no, probably not I. Can't I can't wait for the K pop
the K pop fangirl. I'm telling you, Dan.
I look forward to the 90 minute nap I could take in the comfy

(23:16):
theaters. No, come on, don't sleep on it.
I'm not. I'm not judging.
I'm not. No, I'm not judging.
Listen, I'm happy. My daughter is happy.
That's all I care about. There you go.
All right, well, even better. But anyways, it is great.
It's got lots of pop culture references.
The story's great, the ending isgreat.
It's something you don't really see coming.
There's a little bit of heartfelt heartstrings with

(23:36):
Earth Bouncer and Talking about Earth.
Yeah. And it's it's just amazing.
And it's a great foray into RPGs, especially turn based if
you've never played them. So my thoughts.
When's the last time you played it?
Out of curiosity, probably a year ago.
So that's why I V GB CI was like, let's do it again because

(23:56):
it's about that time. So now as a parent, I have to
ask you, what's your perspectiveon Earthbound is?
Because absolutely terrible and Earthbound are are like we're
probably 40% of the humor in thegame lies, I think.
Yeah, no, don't take your parenting advice from
Earthbound. That's what I have to say about
that. Yeah, son, go travel.

(24:17):
I mean, Pokémon's the same way, though.
My 10 year old yes Ray gets it. Go play with the meteor.
Go play with that meteor crash, Yeah?
Son, I love you, but here's somemoney.
Get out of my hair. Like, yeah, no, don't take your
caring advice from Earthbound. Everything else great.
Nothing weird's happening, kid. Just go.
Yeah, it's all good. Yeah.

(24:37):
It's fine, yeah. It's it's it's, it's not like
Pokémon where you're like, this is just the world it's in.
Like there's, there's a humor element to like Earthbound knows
what it's doing. Yeah, when it does that and
you're like, oh, this is just being like, we know we're being
ridiculous when we were sending these children off into the
psychic Wilds to battle aliens and.
But that's the satire, and that's part of the reason I love

(25:00):
it. I mean, I, that's why I love One
Punch Man too. I mean like, I love the satire.
01 punch is so good. It's raise raise in you lost him
in turning star PG when he's in for for one punch here we.
Go. All right, we got a little.
Everything OK? What?
Was the oh the last series guys,So this is another like the the
final boss in particular. Any any thoughts?

(25:24):
I mean, OK, I, I have mixed feelings about it, but I do love
the fact that they brought something else other than pure
power like Final Fantasy does sometimes to beat the final
boss. OK, there's a little bit more of
a moral to the story and I I do appreciate that.
Do I love it? It's kind of meh for me just

(25:46):
quite honestly, but. It's the rest of it.
It's the rest of the game that matters, yeah.
It's really the rest of the game, and I do kind of like
that. They were like, all right, we're
going to throw you in robot bodies and go like, oh, I'm
spoiler sorry, but it's a robot.Game, you're fine.
I get it, but still you don't know who has and hasn't played
it anyway. Yeah, I know.

(26:07):
And so I kind of do like that where it's like you guys may not
come back from this kind of a what's the word, what's that
movie where they go up to the meteor and one of them stays and
dies. Armageddon Armageddon's newer.
Than Earth. Now he's got no problems
squarely. That barely, barely OK.
But it's only two years old, so.Yeah, that's impressive, you

(26:31):
know that? This is the damage of my brain.
But yeah, that's the movie person.
As I've got my C3 CS trivia jersey on.
Yeah, that's my. All right, well.
The damage of my brain. But dress up you just you just
missed the C3S you should have been in there for That's the
problem. You came in too late.
What was the C3? The C3 CS before you came in was

(26:52):
we did four weeks of NES championship addition.
Come on, don't. Lanky Man wrecked everybody and
there was no one to stand up to Lanky Man because you weren't
here. 4 Mario games. We did 4 Mario games in a row.
Did lanky man beat my time this week?
I'm I'm curious. As of right now, no.
Oh, lanky man, if you're listening to this or you listen

(27:13):
to this before the end of the day.
I don't know if Lanky Man is oldenough to listen to podcasts.
So probably not you. Know whatever if that's the case
my my last my last earth down question for you.
Yes, there are lots of like one in 182 odds items like the Did

(27:34):
you ever mess with any of that? Like, yeah.
That's what I did. And no I did not get the Sword
of Kings. I have tried my man, I have
tried. I sat there probably for three
hours and just fought those guys.
It was an on an emulator. So I went back saved States and
stuff like that but Nope. I've got a couple friends that
have and I just after about 3 hours of trying I was like this

(27:54):
ain't worth it then no I didn't.Everything else, yes.
Sword of Kings? Nope.
Yeah, the the the 182 odds just no.
Forget it. No Nah, not worth it to me
personally, especially after kids.
Before you know, as we continue in in outer space, do we talk

(28:15):
about Armageddon and the fact that I have to do you want to
accept the premise that astronauts couldn't figure out
engineering techniques tell me rocket scientists trained to go
out of. Facebook's greatest performance
is on the DVD commentary for Armageddon when he asks Michael
Bay that exact question to his face and Michael Bay tells him

(28:37):
to shut the F up, Ben. That sounds like he knows it
wrong, yeah. DVD commentary for Armageddon.
Oh my God. Again, Ben Affleck's greatest
performance in the the 35 years of Ben Affleck being in our
lives is him. He he's there wasn't DVD.
Commentary. It wasn't.

(28:59):
Oh my God, that's amazing. OK, I got to look that up now.
That's going to be the worst clue ever when that's the clue I
put up is the DVD commentary forOH.
No, it's going to be great. I will know because that's
that's great. But that's amazing.
I love it because Liv Tyler kindof looks like AG, so that in
Lord of the Rings, I'm all aboutthem.
We just compared Armageddon in Lord of the Rings.

(29:22):
This is Liv Tyler's in both. I'm sorry, Argue.
That and all all this to continue in outer space with
Metroid Prime. My Metroid Prime is an amazing,
amazing gem of a game that I feel like a lot of people slept
on. That's my take.
So this means you played it on the GameCube?
You're right, I did. And do you not believe I

(29:45):
probably my pants the first timethat I saw little raindrops on
your visor coming out of your ship on the the planet?
Wow, I can't freaking remember it.
Somebody help me? Oh gosh.
Zeebs, Yeah. Zeebs, yes, that sounds right.
If we're wrong, I'm sorry. I have a doubt.
One of the. Problem.

(30:05):
I'm sorry, I have to. I have to.
I'm pretty sure you're right. I know.
I'm pretty sure it's Zebes. I think you're right, but if
we're wrong, I'm sorry everybody.
Now I'm looking it up. Do it.
Do it. Do it.
Do it. How is how setting?
Here we go on Talent 4. Talent.

(30:26):
Yeah, Nope. That's it.
I'm sorry, guys. Yes.
Because it's between the first two games technically.
Yep, with the Chozo on it, that's where she gets all of her
There you go powers from. So yes.
Starts so about your prime. Is this, Was this like, is this
the first match weight? Did you play other metros?
Before no. Oh, that's a good question.

(30:49):
I think it was, actually. Did I know of other Metroids?
Yes. Did I actually play them because
of my age? Not really.
So Metroid Prime really was my first, yeah?
So you, so you start with like, like you said, you know, it's
Metroid Prime also is 3D on the,on the game cube with, you know,
now we don't, we're not using the Polygon graphics anymore.
We, we have, we have surround, we have curved things now, not

(31:13):
just triangles. And you, you're here.
It's it's first person and you can aim and blast, but it's
still this Metrovania you're still exploring and and how is
all that? Amazing.
I mean, honestly, like I said, the graphics, because especially
going from the 64 bit O to the GameCube, a lot of people were
that was what they're obsessed with at the time.

(31:34):
That's why Wind Waker I feel like got a bad rap, right,
Because it went back to the cartoon graphics.
It just changed wind and everybody wanted that crisp,
clean Xbox Halo feel, right? So Metroid Prime, I feel like
delivered that in abundance, plus the awesome adventure that
came along with it. Did you play the sequels or did

(31:55):
you only play first? One, yeah, I know I played
Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime Three, I was getting a little
bit older. And no, I did not play Metroid
Prime 3. Did you have a favorite suits or
fair power up? Because it's like you said, this
is where Simon starts getting. The grappling hook was really
cool at the time. I will say that is the grappling

(32:16):
hook, especially like that and some of the other like James
Bond had that I think in Nightfire maybe the grappling
hook was a really good nightfire.
Stand out. Here Wow on Nightfire.
They're Dang right. All the 007 games were amazing,
But yeah, all the grappling hooks at that time was just like
this cool thing that you could actually just grapple onto

(32:37):
whatever and shoot off and run. And it was a new platforming
technique and it was really cool.
So I would say the grappling hook for Metroid Prime.
And so how does this where, where does this game fit for you
with with you having the older sibling?
Is this another one? Like older.
Sibling you. Did not, No.
And oh, man, you asked me, is this my first?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

(33:00):
That's Mega Man. Sorry, incorrect, but yes, it
was my first Metroid. No I did not.
Did not play any of them. Before I I could have, I could
have answered the older brother wasn't involved because again,
those of us of a certain age at this point, the GameCube was the
little Kitty toy. We had moved on to the
PlayStation or soon thereafter the Xbox for a lot of these

(33:21):
people. Was that where your brother was
at this point? I have to know.
He was just off in other lands. No, he was just in college.
So I was like 15. He was like 20.
He was in college. He was actually the first one
that showed me Super Mario Brothers Sunshine, and I still
have a special place in my heartfor that.
So no, don't. Get restarted, Move on.
Move on from there. I was going to say.

(33:44):
Anything one Mulligan, you get 1Mulligan when you bring up
sunshine. The second you bring it up, the
second time you see the unmute button get hit for Ray and he
comes out both barrels blasting so.
Don't do it. Don't do it again.
That's all, my man. No, come on, come on.
But no. So, yeah, no, he he definitely
had a PlayStation two, don't getme wrong, but he's definitely
had a GameCube as well. But the GameCube is the first
system that I bought with my ownmoney, so it holds a special

(34:07):
place in my heart. How do you feel about the
GameCube controller? What does that?
Feel amazing? Are you kidding me?
Graded. Goaded.
Come on. Did you did you have a wave
bird? I did not.
I was too poor for that crap, sorry.
Did you have any color besides the purple GameCube controller?

(34:27):
I bought the Platinum GameCube, so the Platinum controller, but
that's it. Those were the only controllers
that I had. And one of the mad cats, the
little ones. I mean, that's it, that's it.
That's all I had. That mad cat was tiny.
Used AAA batteries to the AA's. It was the poor man's substitute
of the wave bird. It was still holding on to that,

(34:48):
to those 90s, you know, clear. Yes, it was.
Clear machines the see through, you can see the inside of it,
everything. Yes.
Oh man. It's got a Game Boy right there,
same style. That's a oh man.
So I don't know if I've ever been more invested in a German,
a German game show than I am this year.

(35:09):
Gamescon. Gamescon.
Gamescon is held in Germany every single year.
I only know this because, like Isaid, I didn't know about
Gamescon until this year becauseeveryone keeps talking about
this is where Metroid Prime 4 issupposed to be.
You're supposed to be able to play that thing.
There got. It right if you want.
If you want. I've got like 5 other press
invites to gamescon. I just don't have a way to get

(35:30):
to Germany. If you want I can hit a button.
I've got to take an early early vacation from work and head.
Through it. Germany's great.
You should go up there. Apparently you see.
All the Dutch. Cracking the Dutch, indeed.
Apparently, yes, we're all I've again.
I've never been so invested in this games con that apparently
is Halsted every year in Germany, but we're supposed to.

(35:51):
Get what I've never known? Supposed to get Metroid Prime 4
there and a couple other things that I'm going to wait and talk
about. Yeah, yeah.
We'll, we'll, we'll come to thatlater when the clown wig comes
out again. God, yeah.
How exciting are you? How exciting are you from
Metroid Prime 4? Oh, you're not Honestly, just
because like I said, I kind of dropped off with three.

(36:13):
So it's like, yeah, I'll probably pick it up.
I will probably play it. Hopefully it blaze me away but.
It's funny 'cause you. You mean a 20 year gap in a game
game series has a negative impact?
It's OK, you can do it. Not a lot, you know.
No, I'm sorry, it's only 18. It was.
What was that? O 7 for Metroid Prime three?
I'm sorry, it's 18. But yes, no, it does.

(36:36):
Sorry. Sorry, guys.
Developers, if you're listening to this, yeah, it does.
Don't do that. I'm just excited because I
actually really like the way theswitch to has been laying stuff
out where they do basically one game, like 1 big game per month.
Which they've been doing good atit.
I mean, there's a lot of hate onWorld, but it has a lot of
positives in my opinion. I know that's probably a hot

(36:56):
take too. Oh, I love it.
I've been, I've been loving World.
I'm all in the world. Bonanza.
I've heard nothing but good stuff about it.
I haven't played it yet. We need to go ahead and grab it.
But get on get, just just get onthat game.
I know get. Them off of NES World
Championship. I'm not going to talk about it
unless you guys bring it up that.
Game is throwing me for a loop right now.
I thought, I thought I was finishing it.

(37:18):
I was like, oh, I'm going to finish right now before getting
on. Yeah.
And the the game said, no, you're not done, but you thought
you were done. Like I, I thought, I've thought
three different times that I wasfinished with the game.
With Bonanza. Yeah, I, I every time I was
like, oh, OK, this I could see this, this is where it's ending
and I. Was like, no, it's not.
Did you like did you like idiots?
Did you like Odyssey? That's a nice.

(37:39):
Question Yeah, I I mean I did I get all the moons absolutely.
The Frick not no. Then my brother, yes.
This is this is worse. I did get all the moons for
Odyssey. This is worse than them though,
because. You did you play.
Yeah, what? Did you get all the bananas in
64? Oh, Donkey Kong.
No, no, not donkey. Kong Yeah, OK, yeah, yeah, yeah.

(38:00):
That's what I'm talking about. Donkey Kong 64 is a collectathon
of collectathons. Yeah, that's something else.
With like 108% possibility or 102% possibility.
No, it doesn't surprise me. Bonanza went a similar route
then. I've it's.
It's so good. But I hear it's amazing.
I love donkey on. 64 it it can compete for a game of the year.

(38:22):
That's it. Yeah.
All right. I got to buy it.
I got to buy it's. Really that good?
I got to buy super. Impressed.
Let's move on. Honorable mentions, Yes, Here's
a game that I don't know if we've ever brought up.
At least not it like, not as like the main game.
Heck yeah. All right.
What is it? Mario Mario Kart Super Circle.
Yeah, Dance Gameboy Advance cannot consider one of the

(38:44):
better Mario karts, but it's thenumber 4 selling Gameboy Advance
game ever. Like it's so it's like it was
huge. It actually sold a whole sold
like a little under 6,000,000 copies.
So like huge game everyone. If you had a Gameboy Advance,
you were getting this game apparently.
So I guess it was my generation,I don't know, but OK.

(39:04):
So the only, well, not the only reason, but part of the reason I
brought this up is because I have an origin story, if you
will. Again, we were pretty poor to I
couldn't afford the different color freaking GameCube
controllers or anything like that.
I bought my first GameCube at like 13.
So I couldn't afford a Game Boy Advance.
So one day I grew up in a fairlybig family.

(39:26):
I have four sisters and a brother.
One of my sisters was dating this guy and he's like, hey, we
found a Game Boy Advance at the church.
Would you want it? And me being like die Hard for
video games at the time, I was like, yeah, please give it to
me. I will take that and the game in
it, Mario Kart Super Circuit. So before that, yeah, I played

(39:51):
Mario Kart 64. That was only the only gaming
systems we have to the point where my mom literally had to
take me to the eye doctor because I had eye issues from
playing Mario Kart 64 so much. But so I guess.
Yes. See, and I still will live and
die by CRT, but the Mario Kart Super Circuit was the next Mario
Kart I got, so you better believe I spent hours and hours

(40:14):
and hours, hours time trialing and playing everything with that
game. So yeah, that one holds a
special place in my heart for that reason.
Did you did you enjoy the fact they basically made it?
It was basically Super Mario Kart graphic wise.
Did you? Did you like that part?
You could even unlock Super Mario Kart Grand Prix such by
beating one of them. Yes, and I did all of that and

(40:37):
then some. And yes, I loved it.
I loved the fact that it was Mario Kart that I could take
anywhere at the time. Did you?
Did you? How'd you do with the grading
system? Because they graded you based on
like all this stuff. Which Grand Prix, how fast, what
weight character you used affected the grade.
I don't remember that being a large standout in my mind.

(40:57):
I do know that I 100 percented and got the highest ranking on
everything, so, but I don't remember that being something
that I was like, oh, that's so frustrating or that sucks or
anything like that. It was just kind of like, all
right, yeah. And he who's the favorite
character 'cause he had like 3 in each.
It was Toad at that point. Toad or Yoshi 100% and those

(41:19):
were my 2 mates. Did you ever have a chance to
use a link cable and play? Not on Mario Kart, but you
better believe it on Pokémon, and you better believe it on
Animal Crossing for the GameCubeand for Wind Waker.
For the GameCube, I used that link cable to do all those weird

(41:41):
little things that they could doat the time that were gimmicky.
I feel like the the link cable, I just, it feels like it's like
this like niche thing. Maybe a lot of people used the
link cable, but it was I, I almost felt tough to use.
I know I, I, I did, I, I'd poke your mom back in the day with it
and it was. Like OK are.
You connected. OK, good.
Ready on three. We'll push it and we'll get to

(42:02):
this match together. Ready.
All right, So real talk here, who's older?
You were probably Dan, right than Dan is sorry.
Dan Dan is ancient. This is.
True, he's not ancient, but he'sprobably older than you.
So did you guys both have the grey Game Boy?
Let my question to y'all. The great No, I had a.
With four AA batteries. No, I had the pocket, my first

(42:23):
one. The Pocket 2 AA's.
Dan, how about you? Blue 1 Dan is muted.
OK, fair enough. I had blue Game Boy pocket,
black and white screen. Heck yeah.
Pokémon Red and then Pokémon Yellow on.
The apologies my, you know, my Ihad to, I had to step in for
hermit crab water prep. OK, but did you have the grey

(42:49):
Gameboy? That's my question.
I I have no back. Part I still I I have I have
procured 1. I had to I I spent much time I I
got in the clear one when I wenton like the me establishing some
old systems. But I have the the grey Game Boy
is over there secured. My man OK Did either of y'all

(43:11):
have a freaking Game Boy printerthough?
No, no. Who had it right?
You see that poor grind up? No, God, no.
Right. No, I didn't either.
I'm not. Saying I want someone had it.
But no, do you guys know what the prize was for getting all
150 Pokémon in yellow, red or blue or?

(43:35):
No, I was too old. I was out of the Pokémon.
Oh, you were sorry you got to print out a certificate with
your Game Boy printer? Those rich effers.
But anyways, sorry. Yeah, to have that, that
involves having at least two games or finding somebody,
right? Right, a little trade and a
printer. And having the printer and yes.
And having the printer. The cable, two games, two Game

(43:56):
Boys and a printer. I had the pocket, always been
greedy. I had the pocket with black and
white and then I had the Game Boy Vance.
I don't think I ever had a Game Boy Color.
My man. All right, Well anyways it was
funny. Me and my friend did it
recently. We went through all of them with
emulators and we printed that out on a normal printer to say
we did it just for nostalgia. Now there's a There's a handful

(44:18):
of of tracks on Mario Kart 8 that come from Mario Kart Super
Circuit. No, you don't like them.
The worst track of all time is one of them, so.
No, I don't even know if I wouldsay that, but I just, I get my
butt kicked so. Wait, which one is it?
Cheese land. Cheese land is the worst.

(44:39):
Track. Oh yeah.
Quick, suck it off butter, get good.
Yeah, Bagger. Boring.
Yellow. More yellow Brown.
Tan. More yellow.
Is what it is. Sounds like a skill issue to me.
That's what I say. Boring.
Get lucky bro. I also have Morrow circuit,
obviously Ribbon Rd., Sky Garden, Snowland.

(45:00):
I like I like the ribbon roads. This.
Is another one I don't like. Yeah, I don't.
Like any of these courses? Whatever.
OK, sorry but some of those I dolove.
But yeah, cheese land can eat it.
But I just ate is not my favorite.
Maybe because I get beat all thetime by my wife, but you know.
Yours. Preaching to the choir.

(45:22):
Yeah, it's definitely not my favorite either.
No. Anyways, yeah.
That's why I think I like World too much, right?
It's fun. Knockout I I only play Knockout
Tour in world, so I just I don't, I haven't experienced the
rest of yet. I just keep playing Knockout
Tour. I play knockout and I play free
roam like. That's I like the knockouts.
It's been fun. It's challenging, but it's a

(45:44):
good. Time.
Yeah. Let let's jump to a different
era. Now let's go to your second
honorable mansion. With Fallout 4.
We're shipping up to Boston. And there.
Are no Dropkick Murphy's up there, which is good for Yankees
fans not having to hear it. That's for Ray.
Come on, Dropkick Murphy's are goaded as well.
Give me that Irish accent all day long.

(46:06):
These Yankees fans, they can't put up with that stuff.
That's. Come on, see my, See my red
beard. Come on.
Yeah, the, the, the copper's giving way to Gray down here,
but. They I got named.
Like Dan Tucker and I can I can track back to Kiernan and I got
we're all I can do the Irish thing all day.
But. Dan's out on the Mord.
There he is. But anyways.

(46:27):
But anyway, so so Fallout 4. So where is this in your Fallout
journey? It it's actually the first, I
hate to say that I know I'm. Not judging, no, that's.
But, and I know New Vegas is up there for so many people.
And that's the hipster pic of that, too.
I know, but. Wait, wait, let me see if I fall

(46:47):
out. New Vegas.
I'm like, OK, there's an immediate part of my brain that
files them somewhere. That's all I'm going to say.
I love. Listen, I love New Vegas, too.
People. Relax.
Relax. Yeah, When you come up too hard
about New Vegas, I put you in a box.
That's all it comes down to. I started with four though, and
yeah, that's fine. Started with not even owning the

(47:07):
game, just seeing one of my roommates play it back in the
day and I was like wow that's a.Real.
That's a real stretch of back inthe day, but OK.
Oh, well, sorry, 10 years ago was back in the go.
Yeah, 10 years ago, Dan, 10 years.
We also referenced. We also referenced Nightfire.
Yeah, well, there you go. That's more than 10. 1st.

(47:29):
That's a hipster merit badge. First of all, I'm impressed by
I'm impressed by that one. By the way, that's my James
Bond. Badge.
That's my James Bond. That's.
My wait, what was the first one on GameCube?
It wasn't night fire. It was.
Did they do The World is not Enough on that one too.
World is not in wait. Was that 64?

(47:49):
Was that? That was PlayStation, that was
PlayStation 2, so that had to bethe GameCube.
Era too. I think you're right, World is
not enough. Sounds right, but.
Then and then they did night fire as its own like.
Yeah. Separate, not movie Titan.
And then they did a Goldeneye that was kind of crap.
I didn't like the Goldeneye. That was by the Wii for that.
World is not enough. Nintendo 64 as well.

(48:09):
That's what it was really. It was on.
The PlayStation, but also a bluecartridge.
That's right, I had that blue cartridge.
Too. I thought only Tony Honk had the
blue. Cartridge.
No, it was one of the few, no great game.
But yeah, multiplayer, dude. Did you guys play multiplayer on
Double O 7 on I mean, Goldeneye was great.
Don't get me wrong. Goldeneye's amazing.

(48:30):
I will not say anything bad about that.
But the GameCube Double O 7 multiplayers like that was my
Halo back in the day. I didn't play.
Halo I'm sorry, the Doctor Christmas Jones era of Bond and
I did not get along and we just kind of, we said we parted a
ways until Casino Royale came back in.
All right, all right, it is whatit is anyways.
First of all, how dare you? Tell me where I'm wrong, Ray.

(48:52):
Tell me where I'm wrong. How dare.
You say anything about Doctor Christmas?
Jones raised. Over here, getting back to
Boston. Let's go.
Let's get back up to. That the habit.
No, I had actually never played a Bethesda game before Fallout
4. So, so wait, so this was a
roommate, like had it? You're like, what's going on
over here? Yeah, I know.

(49:14):
I mean, we had a giant TV in theliving room of our house.
And so he was playing it on it one day after it came out,
'cause everybody's super excited.
He had played the other ones. And, you know, he's playing it
for days on end. And I'm like, what are you?
What are you doing? Like, what is this?
And immediately was like Yep Nope this is this is it.

(49:35):
I love this because I never played Skyrim.
I had brushed pads with like Elder Scrolls in the past like
Oblivion and Morwind, but it didn't capture my attention like
Fallout 4 did. Yeah, you don't want spells in
your in your first person you. Want give me?
Give me guns a blazing and give me a nuke that I can hold on my
shoulder. Not exactly.

(49:55):
I definitely went back to Skyrimwhen it came to Switch and I
played it like at least five times all the way through so.
That that thing that's dangerouson handheld.
That's the problem. It is.
It is, and it's just so glitchy. It's a beautiful masterpiece of
messiness and I love it. I haven't played the switch
version of that. That seems it seemed like it was

(50:16):
still a struggle bus for the switch.
Even it is, and it's great. That being APS three era game,
but yeah, that's that's unless it was glitchy on the three.
It was glitchy on the four. It's glitchy on the five.
It's glitchy on the refrigerator, too.
It's glitchy. On the Amazon Alexa yeah it's
like it's glitchy everywhere it's again I'll actually eat
cheese wheel but no no, but it'sso OK, so so you you wandered in

(50:38):
you're set you're in did you just like grab the copy when
he's not playing then you're like I'm.
No. So I bought APS 4 for The Last
of Us because everybody was telling me, oh, it's great, it's
greatest. Greatest excellent decision.
Amazing game, yes, no regrets, but, and so it was right around
that same time. So it's like, Oh yeah, no, I
gotta buy Fallout 4 now 'cause he's always playing it on his

(50:59):
Xbox. So I bought Fallout 4 and just
never looked back on that one. I played through it so many
times. Amazing, amazing game.
Did did you ever basically deadlock yourself in the game?
Like a bad save with low gear especially.
Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
Are you kidding me? And you're like staring down a
death claw with the nuke, but you got to point it just right

(51:20):
so you don't die immediately andactually get out of the
situation. Oh yeah.
See, my my 2 problems were one, finding out that Oh no, the
death claws are agile in this game because I had played
Fallout 3 in New Vegas and so Ohno, it's sidestepped.
What is this? This is not good.
This is not good. It can actually think.
No, but I I had not wandered like I did in Fallout 3 and I

(51:43):
immediately made my way towards Fenway and nearly did not make
it to Fenway because the Super mutants were just wrecking me
left and right and I had to justrun through the streets to get
to to to to slide head first in the home basically to not end my
game. 100% and the first time you saw one of the the giant

(52:03):
super mutant and. Somebody.
The Behemoth. The behemoth yes, dude, I my
pants. So yes, that was that was a cool
addition to the game because it took a while to see any of
those. Yep.
But then once you do, they're there.
Oh yeah, you bet. The death claws honestly did not
scare me as much as the behemoths did.

(52:24):
It's felt like they're they're just you.
Have to have sheer firepower to take I mean both down for
frankly, but the Super Mutants don't bother getting out of the
way of the heavy artillery like the.
Oh, OK. So there's a question for you,
Dan. If you played this game quite a
bit, are you tank or are you? Sniper.

(52:44):
Snipe, yes. Always, always a sniper.
That's. All right, fair enough.
I take I take care of my problems from a distance and
they they don't need to know I'mthere and just you just get to
when you get the animation of somebody just like a guard
standing duty, they're like I. Know yeah it.
Just explodes. I'm like.
But there's also something to besaid about going guns a blazing
in there with a freaking, you know, auto just going.

(53:07):
Oh no no argument, the auto shotgun is my friend for when I
got to get up close and and the the souped up auto shotgun is
ready for me. Whatever a tank, whatever
repairs I have to pay for early in the game since I can't repair
it myself to to get it ready. I'm I'm set then because it's Oh
yeah, spray and pray and you're good.
That's I'm prepared. I'm prepared for an up close
fight. I just avoid them whenever

(53:28):
humanly possible. Fair enough, fair enough.
So were you, were you settlementbuilding too with this or were
you just kind of lone wolfing it?
So the second or third time I played through it, definitely
no, I built the settlement. I started making water farms
because that was like one of thebest ways to make money and
building tiered and settlements and stuff like that.

(53:49):
So I got into it, but it didn't catch my attention as much as
like the main storyline and justrunning through it like an RPG.
Classic RPG if you will. Yeah.
So let me see your first run through.
I'm going to ask about, I'm going to ask about your first,
Yeah. Did you align with the faction
and what did you do about the Institute?

(54:09):
I definitely aligned with the Brotherhood.
Would I do it again? Maybe, but they had the
inference. For everybody to be clear, they
wrote this game specifically that there is no good answer for
an alignment like there's like Fallout 3 and they made that.
They were like, Oh no, there's an obvious alignment that you
should do as the correct canonical playthrough this game

(54:30):
make sure you have something to hate about all possible sides
that like no, I don't want to bea part of this because of this.
I don't want to be a part of this because of that.
I don't want to be them because of this.
Like all all three of the the main factions are no.
Good. There's plenty to hate.
There's plenty. Well, little the like.
But you went. But you went Brotherhood Yeah,

(54:51):
Brotherhood for sure, mainly because they had most of the
sets of armors and power fours were abundant Yes.
So it wasn't hard to get them. So I went with Brotherhood and
then finding your well again. Spoiler.
Can I spoil it doesn't matter. It's.
Been 10 years, it's. Fine, what I'm?
Saying right, we're going to. Have it.
We're not going to have Fallout 5 until 20-30, but once we get

(55:14):
to Elder Scrolls 6, then the Fallout 5 team gets to continue
onward. But.
I don't know, I feel like. No, no, no.
They're gonna come out first. 6 is the 6 is coming out first
then they put everything else into fallout 5 is is cooking in
the background but it's not gonna be till.
Two, it'll be Fallout 76 version24.
But yeah, so when you finally dofind that your son's with the

(55:39):
Institute and all that crap, I honestly thought that was a
crappy premise anyways. And I was like, oh, this is BS.
So I felt no remorse going with the Brotherhood.
Did did well. What did you do about about
young Sean? I'm trying to remember the first
time, man, I I honestly can't remember what I did.
Probably the most brutal thing, yeah.

(56:00):
It has to be done. You gotta, you gotta be put
down. You're dying anyway.
Just may as well put you down. That's all I can.
That that sounds right if my memory serves correct.
Yeah, I just I'll, I'll help you.
I'll help you cross that bridge as.
Right. So how about your more recent
playthroughs? Did you change any of that or is
that kind of you settle back to?Well, and kind of like with like
Undertale, if you guys have played that, if you haven't,

(56:22):
right, But if you haven't. He came in, he came in with an
agenda. There's a post it note of the
Monitor. Call you out there, Ray.
Tell. Tell right?
There's a couple post it notes. Don't worry I did.
But oh you did? I haven't and you still haven't
played it. So there's that.
That's the tale of it takes. Like 2 hours Ray, come on do.
It it's it's really not a complicated one.

(56:43):
Yeah. It's not, but anyways it I like
to go through the different scenarios.
So like the second time I definitely played through as the
Renegades. I can't remember the name of it
off hand, but the opposition of the Brotherhood.
And the railroad? The railroad, yes.
Yes, the railroad. Thank you.
And then the third time, I kind of like after you finally find

(57:03):
out what the Institute is, sidedwith the Institute and did what
I could to help them just to seethe different aspects of the
game. Yeah, plenty of plenty.
Again, they're they're, they're not shallow either.
Those are, they're deep. You got to put effort in to get
all these things in there. Well, and there's different
allies you get with each one too, with different perks, and
that's kind of cool too. Like it has great replayability
that game. Oh yeah, absolutely.

(57:24):
Because there's so many avenues you can take, so many builds.
You can wait. So what?
So is your is your build tank? I never asked.
I never asked you about your. Build No again I like to do
different ones like I like to see just like with Skyrim.
So first time was tank, that's my first playthrough of any game
is just tank hack smash slash asstrong as possible.

(57:45):
Yep go for it. And then second is generally the
sniper ranged combat. And third one like with Skyrim
it would be magic or whatever the weird 1 is.
So I like to kind of see all theaspects of each one.
So my, my final question is justyour special alignment.
So for anybody who doesn't know, much like, much like DND, you

(58:05):
get to assign your, your strength, your perception, your
endurance, your charisma, your intelligence, your agility, and
your luck to to decide how your character's skills proceed from
there. But also not only that, but
interactions are impacted by this as well.
All right, so first playthrough or last playthrough?

(58:25):
We'll do, we'll do a first and last.
Like what's your emphasis for first and last?
I mean endurance had to be high endurance and strength I'm
guessing for the tank build right?
No, funny enough. Well, yeah, sure, it's it's on
there, but with my sacrifice is a bigger question, I guess.
Yeah. So my most points that I put in
anything in most of the Bethesdagames, Charisma, I like to have

(58:51):
those weird interactions that you can have with Bethesda
characters. Charisma's always the first one.
So after that, my last playthrough, what I like to go
through is luck because you get weird stuff and these awesome
little moments where you're like, I shouldn't have had that
happen, but I just did. So those are my 2 favorites.
What? What suffers then?

(59:12):
Oh, everything else. What's a it's a game.
It's a game where, like I, I I've told you before, when you
when you sacrifice intelligence, that game, you go to like a one
intelligence, like I see rye or,you know, wire wire go boom.
Like it it, it changes your. It drastically changes.
Your but with enough charisma, but your charisma doesn't
matter. Yeah, I can make that bomb not

(59:35):
go boom for you, even though you're just saying you're like
red wire, red wire together and then you blow everything.
Out and look, I'm an engineer inyour life.
I know how that crap works. So to have the charisma in luck
where it's like, I have no idea how this is gonna play out, but
it just played out OK, It's great.
Little little living your fantasy then.
OK, what if I wasn't burdened with intelligence and I can just
charm my way through life? That's no.
And the engine? The engineer's drained with

(59:56):
intelligence? No, sorry.
Oh my God. But yeah, So yeah, no, those are
my last two. I think that's what I focused on
the most. And now let's go 11 more game.
Here we've got Dark Souls. Which?
I mean, the original, original Dark Souls, I feel like, I feel

(01:00:18):
like it's been appreciated more over time, especially because
really, really starts this genreof gaming that now kind of
everybody, yeah, everybody wantstheir own version, yeah.
So I actually started on Demon Souls, but I did not play
through the whole game. It was a friend of mine that was
super, super into these like harder games during college that

(01:00:40):
was like, oh, you got to do this, You got to try this.
And so he was the one that firstintroduced me back in the day to
Dark Souls. The first one when it came out
on PS3, I believe. And so I played it a little bit
with him and was like, this is great, whatever.
But didn't really get into it. And again, until I got the PS4
and got Dark Souls 3 when it came out, I kind of skipped 2,

(01:01:03):
but I played it a little bit. Dark Souls 3 hooked me, but when
I went back to the original DarkSouls Remastered on Switch, I
fell in love with it and I was like, man, there's so much to
love about this game if you likethat genre.
So that's kind of my timeline with how I got back to the
original. So do you like that genre?

(01:01:25):
I love it. Are you kidding me?
I love the challenge. That's why I love the time
trials in NES World Championship.
But yes, I love love it. Editorial Disclaimer There's a
difference between calling something souls like, 'cause you
make it hard just to make peoplesuffer, and there's making
something souls like which is making it fulfilling because
it's challenging. You lazy people out there that

(01:01:46):
say I'm just going to make a really hard game and call it a
souls like. No, you don't get to do that.
You're too lazy and make it fulfilling.
It's it's true. The whole point of this is that
it is difficult but fair like. You it is.
It is very fair. But it is something.
For you, if you do it fills. You with it?
If you do it right, you win. If you don't.

(01:02:09):
You die a lot. What I would say is it's
unforgiving. There is no easy mode.
There is no, I messed up a little, but it's okay.
It is no, I messed up and I got killed.
That's it. Bottom line, done.
So I appreciate the reality of what that is in those types of
games. Same.

(01:02:29):
Apollo night. Did you go on and play Elden
Ring as well? I not played Elden Ring, I
didn't have a machine that couldplay it at the time.
We actually just me and AG just put together our first PC.
So we will and I plan on it or the Switch 2, I'll plan on
playing it on there. But no, I've not played Elden

(01:02:49):
Ring yet, but very very excited to do so.
That was actually interesting. I think it'll play well on the
switch to the switch to seems itseems like it's handling stuff
really. Nice, the switch to's taking
care of business. I know people don't want to
admit it and like I know the sales aren't where they want it
to be for those third party games because a lot of people
played them already. But no, it's it's taking care of

(01:03:10):
business. All that cyberpunks and the
Elden Rings and then like nothing but good things.
I've heard about that, those caliber of games.
Look, Steam or Steam punk, the Steam Deck came in and really
showed a lot of people that all of that stuff can be played.
Handheld, we can do it. Yep.
And. And so and the rock.
And to be clear from the development, people I've talked

(01:03:31):
to like the Switch 2's more XboxSeries S than it is PlayStation.
Four, yes, so. It's it's on the higher end of
it, so. We we've had a good experience.
Yeah, we've had a good experience with it so far.
But yeah, no. So I have not played Eldon Ring,

(01:03:51):
would love to do so and probablywill shortly, but I'm not
somebody that needs to play stuff immediately.
Did you appreciate 'cause you said you played three and then
you went back to 1? Yes.
But I would think that 3 has thebetter quality of life.
Did you? But there was something about
one that you had just appreciated more?
Or do you just? OK so I go back and play NES
games so the quality of life between 3 and 1 was irrelevant

(01:04:15):
to me. OK.
Like Metroid the first versus Metroid from Metroid Crime for
example. Quality of life is two different
worlds, 3 to 1. Nah, it was fine.
OK, so now let's move to the future.
Yeah, one game. One game we're looking forward
to. And again, I reference Gamescon.

(01:04:36):
I'll narrate as Ray does this. So Ray's getting the clown
makeup out. Ray's inflation with.
Gamescon 10 days from now. I'm sure it's probably 4 will
be. Playable.
It's not going to be there, right?
They said Hall Night is playableat Gamescon.
They've been hyping this up for months.
No, it's not going to be there. Is that what you're saying?
Germany. Germany is closer to Australia

(01:04:57):
than California, no? Ray just no.
How will I still song? I have been hurt so many times
by Team Cherry. They said this year.
It's not happening. If it does, I'll fly down to
Australia or whatever they're from and kiss them.
But no, I don't see it happening.
They showed it on the Rogue Galaxy.

(01:05:18):
I'm sure they did. They showed it in 2019, Ray.
Showed it. They keep saying 2019 that was.
DLC that to be. To be clear, it was DLC.
That was DLC or the IT? Was it was shot themselves in
the foot? They keep updating the Steam
page. I keep saying yeah.
And OK, I will. I'm going to put the clown
makeup face on myself, but I think 2026 is the year.

(01:05:44):
I think that's the year, but I don't buy it in 2025.
That would be so devastating if they sorry buddy, they said it
so many times. I'm sorry but I I see it if they
did it out this year, absolutelygreat.
But I I'm thinking 26 is the year.
How much of the original did youplay all the holiday?
Minus steel soul. I'm sorry judge me, but I could

(01:06:06):
not get through Steel Soul. Which one is which one is Steel
Soul? Where you only get one life, you
can't die. OK, wait, Bob.
OK, what about? That's amazing.
You're ready? Yeah.
I can't. Yeah.
No, I can't do that. How about don't worry?
Like DLC wise, all of it. God home and all that.
Yeah, that's the. God one, that's the one I
didn't. Play.
OK, to be fair, with the with the DLC on that, with the

(01:06:28):
bosses, I did not get all the way to the Radiance Radiant
version of that. Yeah, that was like the last one
I got to that series of bosses or whatever and I could not get
past that. So and I think we had our first
kid around that time. So it was like, Nah, this ain't
happening. Maybe one day I'll go back and
do God home because I was I justI never even started God home.
I finished it's fun, the finished vampire and I was like,

(01:06:49):
this was cool, like it was awesome.
Those bosses are hard to that vampire one.
The You mean the God King or Nightmare King Grim?
Yeah, Nightmare King Grim, Yes. He was freaking tough.
So anybody out there that thinkshe's easy, go F yourself.

(01:07:10):
But no, I struggled and struggled and struggled with
that guy. Like backwards and forwards.
I could not do it again right now if I wanted to, no.
That's that's the example of souls like that is yes, correct,
because once you once you get itand you can actually do it, it's
like, wow, I I'm amazing. That's why I like the NES stuff

(01:07:32):
too. It's like the quest you guys
sent out this week on C3. Once you get the Kirby thing
down, it's like, OK, you can do it and you can get pretty close
to the world record, but you just got to get it down 1st.
Oh God, you guys for like the six seconds.
I like, I'm, I'm going in there.I'm like, let me take a run at
30 seconds, OK? I looked at every like 5
seconds. Oh my God.
I should try I'm. I'm I can't even get over there

(01:07:54):
in 5 seconds. I'm going to try do it.
I'll try one. I'm going to try it tonight
before I go to bed. Do it.
I'll put a time. Out for it right after this.
Well, we've reached the point where we get to a quest, a
question from the Channel 3 history books that we pick for
you to discuss. And you know what?
I went personal for this one because, you know, you talked
about the the Super Nintendo eraof RPGs and all of that.

(01:08:14):
So I'm going to ask this in in honor of my beloved Chrono
Trigger, which will be anniversarying tomorrow, but is
a week and a half before this episode drops.
Are you going to kill maggots orspare them?
Oh, you're going back to that question?
I'm going back to that question.OK I killed them the first
playthrough and I have not made it through another playthrough
so I'll go with what I my first answer which is kill em.

(01:08:37):
Yeah, to be to be clear, and I'mgonna, I'm just gonna set the
record straight here for info. Cynic, you know, I went into my,
I, I just finished a couple playthroughs like I, I finished
it and I went in. I'm like, let me really think
about this. And I, I, my, my instinct is
kill him. I, I have let him live in my
past, like long, long, long ago, like my second run.
I let him live. And when I'm like, let me, let
me really think about this. Let me take a look at it.

(01:08:59):
And you know, I go in, I go to the, the, the ancient city where
he's young Janice in Giannis Janice, whatever.
And he's a mouthy little annoying brat then too.
And that sealed it for me. I'm like, no, this wasn't, he
wasn't beset by his circumstances being transplanted
in time. No, he was always a stuck up,

(01:09:21):
entitled jerk and he acted like a stuck up, entitled jerk.
He's got to get put down like a rabid dog, so.
That's why I did. I'm with you, Dan.
I'm with you. Sorry info cynic.
I'm not sorry info cynic. I did what had to be done.
Yes, I kill him. Yes, I do it again, and I do it

(01:09:42):
to his face too. Glenn doesn't deserve to be
stuck in frog form because it's wealthy little brat.
Glenn is a respectable, awesome individual.
Glenn. Glenn has only.
Glenn has only been outdone by Garl probably in the history of
RPGs at this point. Otherwise, Glenn is the goodest
of boys until Garl took the the crown from him.
Yeah, if there was one other character I wish I could kill,

(01:10:06):
quite honestly, it's from Earthbound.
What? Oh, good God, I spoke too fast.
What's the guy? The blonde hair.
Your main rival in the game. Good Lord.
Help me here, guys. Help me.
It's not. It's outside my I.
I don't have this memorized the same way.

(01:10:26):
Hang on. No, you're fine.
Give me, give me earthbound. No problem.
Not pokey. Yeah, Pokey, Pokey, Pokey,
Pokey. No Pokey or picky.
Pokey. Pokey or picky.
Yeah, Pokey can go die. Straight up.
That guy is the worst. He's worse than Janice.
He's worse than him. Sorry, Pokey.

(01:10:47):
I wish she could kill him, but you can't.
I killed a full adult. You want to kill a child?
That's different. Same but he plays as a child
all. Right.
What's worse? It is child to child murder in
that case. That's true, and there's
justifiable homicide. That's just a.
That's just. A child too.
It's child on child brutality. Right.
That's that's better, right. That makes it OK.

(01:11:09):
Child on child murder? Yeah, sure.
Can't spell manslaughter withoutlaughter guys.
Always remember. That's that's right.
Oh, man. All right, last question.
What's been your favorite feature on Channel 3?
Yeah, So the quest for sure. I've really enjoyed the
competitive nature of the NES challenges.
That's really the most of I kindof do with it other than a
little bit comments here and there.

(01:11:30):
I hate social media, so I love that.
C3's really low key, so I guess that's bonus second feature.
But yeah, so I don't interact with it a ton, but I really like
the quests. That's really cute that he said.
They're competitive. That's kind of sweet.
I was like, how would you? Humble.
Really humble. He competes with himself.
How? But your tooth getting closed.

(01:11:52):
We didn't know what was. Happening like we're in Cincy,
we finally get to meet Mr. Agee coming in and the, the legend
that is, that has been told before it comes in.
Then we look over like, well, that guy's been over there for
like an hour. Look at he's grinding that
thing. He's grinding that thing like,
wow, he really, he must really care about the halfpipe and he

(01:12:13):
he nailed it and a little to be No, no, no, no, he's going to
take this entire game down. He's going to take it.
He's going to oh, he didn't own the game at the time.
He just waited till they start dismantling everybody.
Again, OK. He went back and he bought the
game and he bought the Switch and he asked controllers.
Hey, somebody told me it'd make me faster so I bought them.

(01:12:35):
I was right you. Were right.
OK, I'll give you full credit. I was right.
If you were right, Full disclosure, I have been using
the drill at CON since then, so.Just I feel it feels so much
different if it I'm telling it. Just it does.
It's a different feel. Cuz I usually play cuz like I'm
not, I, I'm nowhere near competitive.
I just do it to like, so I have fun and get it done.

(01:12:55):
Yeah. But like man, if there's one
that's close, I'm like, I gotta break them out because I it just
feels better for me. I it's it's fine for like a good
30 minutes. After that, the sharp edges get
your fingers. Yeah, I hate it.
So I I went back to the icon. Right here the calluses are the
calluses have been here for 35 years, boys.

(01:13:17):
My calluses are here, not there.So.
But anyways, yeah, I know it it was.
I'm really happy you guys showedit to me.
I appreciate that about C3 Con. And C3 Con was a frigging blast.
So just going to throw that out there.
But yeah, no, I'd never played NES World Championship before,
but all growing up again, my brother was 10 years older than

(01:13:38):
us. We grew up with an NES and
that's it till N64. And it was like 98 before we got
an N64. So it was NES from the day I was
born to 98 and SMB 3. Your background was my favorite
game. And on that note, we've made it
to the end of another one of your 3.
Thank you, Mr. AG Jay search is bad for being here.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
