Guest Speaker Jenice Ramirez joins us from Durham, NC where she serves as the Executive Director for a nonprofit that builds community and leadership through educational Spanish language and cultural immersion programs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 20 percent of Americans can converse in two or more languages, compared with 56 percent of Europeans. Experts estimate that at least half of the human race is bilingual. Jenice discusses the value of cultural immersion programs and bilingualism in America and why education is a priceless investment to achieve equity and equality in the United States. Perhaps the rest of us might reconsider our pride in knowing only one language, or at least stop drawing attention to the gap between us (N.
