This podcast explores the little-known but incredibly powerful and life-altering Dissociative Mental Health Disorder (DMHD) through the story of one brave woman’s journey-of-a-kind dealing with the disorder. In a culture where mental health is still widely stigmatized, this candid witness of living with DMHD is hopefully a powerful reminder that you are never alone, no matter who you are or where you are from.  Chandra began having symptoms of DMHD at a young age, but like so many Black Americans living in the Deep South, she was unprepared for the reality of the disorder, and for far too long suffered in silence. Through this podcast, she will share her panic attacks, flashbacks, numbing feelings and occasional experiences of dissociating from her body as she tried to keep up with university and work. Supported by a community of mental health professionals, family and friends, Chandra has found the power to share her story, fight for awareness and often confront the prejudices she’d lived with her entire life.
