Let's, together redefine thenarrative of depression and
embrace a life of purpose andfulfillment.
(01:16):
Today, on Win Over Depression,we'll be talking about how do we
survive in the midst ofuncertainty and emotional trauma
.
The world is a very scary placeright now and we have to
recognize that.
We are here and we have to tryto make the best of it.
(01:38):
There's so many things going onin the world.
There are fires, car accidents, plane crashes and just life is
lifing, as some people say, butwe have to figure out how to
remain as upbeat as possible andsurvive during these times.
(02:00):
So what do we do?
The first thing that I am goingto submit to you is that we
pray, and for those of you whoknow me, you know that I believe
that prayer changes everything.
And even though times are hardand things are tough, guess what
?
We have survived up until now,and we will get through this as
(02:25):
well.
No storm can last forever, so Iwant you to think about what
did you do the last time youfelt as if your back was against
the wall and you didn't knowhow you were going to take
another step or make it anotherday.
What did you do?
Another step or make it anotherday?
(02:49):
What did you do?
What you did is you realizedthat you are resilient, you are
powerful and you are not alone.
Times of political change canfeel overwhelming, especially
when policies and leadershipshifts and it impacts health
care, mental health resourcesand social justice.
(03:09):
But even in uncertainty, youhave control over your own peace
, your own healing and your ownvoice.
Remember that you are in chargeof your daily peace.
Remember that you are in chargeof your daily peace.
You will continue to do thesame things that you've done in
(03:30):
order to continue to heal, andyou will decide to speak up when
it's necessary, when yourvalues are being questioned and
you feel like you are being putto the test.
You are going to share yourvoice.
No matter what's happening inthe world, your well-being must
(03:53):
always remain a priority.
Protect your peace by settingboundaries with media, leaning
into self-care and surroundingyourself with people who uplift
you.
I cannot stress that enough.
Our mindset is everything whatwe listen to, what we absorb.
(04:16):
We believe it plays a key rolein not only our personal and
professional development, in notonly our personal and
professional development, butalso when it comes to dealing
with our emotions.
So I recommend that you findsupport in community spaces,
whether it's a therapist, afriend or a group that
(04:39):
understands your struggles.
You are stronger than any system.
Remember, there are systems inplace in this country and they
have been there since thebeginning of time.
Do not let this particularsystem that is in place throw
(05:00):
you off your game and cause youto fall into the depths of
despair and experience moreepisodes of depression.
Your voice holds power, even ifit feels like the world is
working against you.
Remember that collective voicesbring about change.
(05:24):
What can you do in your owncommunity, in your own backyard
to exercise your voice, advocatefor yourself, seek out
organizations that fight formental health rights.
Your experiences are valuableand they have a right to be
heard.
You are not alone.
(05:46):
You are seen and you are valued.
No administration, no law, noexternal force can take away
your ability to heal, to growand to thrive.
Take one day at a time, breathedeeply and remind yourself that
(06:06):
joy is an act of resistance.
I guarantee you that, with theworld shifting around you,
policies changing anduncertainty in the air, it is
easy to feel weighed down, especially when you carry the
burden of living with thestruggles of mental illness.
(06:29):
But even in the storm, you arestill standing.
You have not been moved.
Maybe you have cried yourselfto sleep, maybe you have felt
overwhelmed, but you still gotup the next day and you are
still living.
You are so much more than thechaos around you.
(06:52):
Leaders will come and go, butyour worth, your strength and
your purpose remain.
Do not let externalcircumstances make you question
your value.
You are here for a reason andyour journey is still unfolding.
(07:13):
When uncertainty and chaossurround us, it's usually
because we are close to abreakthrough.
We are close to getting to thatone decision, or that one phone
call that can turn everythingaround for you.
So don't stop short ofrealizing your success, because
(07:39):
when we protect our peace and wedo it relentlessly then we have
decided that our mental healthis the most important area to
focus on in our lives and webegin to see positive results
when we suffer with a mentalillness.
We cannot afford to fight everybattle, because every battle is
(08:02):
not ours to fight.
We must pick and choose, weighin the pros and the cons and
decide what will it cost me if Iget involved in this fight?
It's important for us torecognize when.
It's important for us to take abreak from the news, limit
(08:24):
conversations that drain us andcreate safe spaces where your
mind can rest and not feel sooverwhelmed, can rest and not
feel so overwhelmed.
We are all in this together andwe are a part of a greater
community.
Even when it feels like theworld doesn't care, there are
(08:45):
people who care.
There are people on this earthwho see you, understand you and
are fighting alongside with you.
Find where your tribe is, leaninto support and don't be afraid
to ask for help.
Strength is not just standingtall.
(09:06):
It is also in knowing when torest in the arms of those who
care.
We must keep hope alive.
History has shown us that nosystem, no administration and no
hardship can last forever.
Progress may feel slow, but itis always moving, as long as we
(09:33):
are moving forward and makingprogress.
That is the direction that wewant to go in and in the
(10:01):
meantime, loved, you are neededand you are unstoppable.
Stay in the game.
Every single day that you wakeup in the morning and you open
your eyes and your feet hit theground, you are winning.
Some days, simply getting outof bed is an act of bravery, but
(10:25):
when you do it, give yourselfgrace.
You don't have to have all ofthe answers, grace, you don't
have to have all of the answers.
Just take the next breath, thenext step and trust that you are
moving forward.
We are all experiencing veryuncomfortable times and so, in
(10:58):
that regard, we are all in thistogether.
We must remember, as I'vealways said, the importance of
guarding our heart and ourspirit.
Be fierce about that.
The world may feel chaotic, butpeace is something that you can
create within your own heart, your own home and your own
community.
Protect your mind fromnegativity, filter what you will
(11:20):
consume, find moments ofstillness and remind yourself
that you are worthy of rest, ofhealing and of joy.
You have never been, and neverwill be, a burden.
You are a blessing, you are awinner and your DNA is special
(11:43):
and was assigned specifically toyou.
The struggles that we face aspeople who suffer with the
mental illness they don't makeus weak.
They make us human.
Your presence, your voice andyour dreams.
They matter.
History has proven again andagain that challenges do not
(12:07):
last forever.
Even in dark times, light willfind a way through.
You are part of that light, whether through your resilience,
your kindness or your courage.
You are shaping the world inways that you may not even
realize, because people arewaiting for your breakthrough so
(12:31):
that you can express to themand tell them exactly how you
made it through.
Don't give up on yourself.
I certainly will not give up onyou.
Keep holding on.
You were not made to break.
You were made to rise.
No matter how exhausting thefight you are fighting for, the
(12:54):
world needs you.
Keep going, keep believing andwhen it all feels too much, let
someone carry hope for you untilyou can hold it again.
You've got this.
Stay in the game of life.
