football since I don't remember20-plus years ago, the longest
offseason we've seen in a longtime.
We're almost back.
How are we doing?
It's got to be just like a sighof relief that it's back right.

randos come back and we're likeexcited about it.
So that's where we got to be.
That's a transfer.
Finally, that craziness is done.
Right, we had the, thespeculation and the transfer

portal and who's gonna start andwho's gonna be this guy and all

It's all done, that's all gone.
Now we just get to watch itplay itself out on the football
field tomorrow night againstmiami of ohio on a third random.
I hate thursday night footballgames, I do and now it's like
we're the badgers opening up theseason on a thursday night.
It's yeah.

But we don't want to talk abouthow far we've fallen.
We want to talk about what thisschedule is going to look like
this season, because we want toget our final thoughts,
projections, everything on the2025 schedule.
We're going to talk about thatnow and then we're going to
preview the opening game, thefirst game of the season,
against Miami of Ohio.

So, right off the bat here,let's talk this 2025 schedule.
So I'm going to run through thelist real fast and then we'll
talk about key games, whateverwe think is going to be in there
.
So, week one Miami, ohio.
We know that that's coming uptomorrow night.

(02:45):
Next week we have MiddleTennessee and then Alabama,
followed by Maryland, michigan,iowa, ohio State, oregon,
washington, indiana, illinois,minnesota.
You have one, two, three, four,five, six ranked teams as of
right now on that schedule.
Six top 25 teams on thatschedule as of right now.
So, looking at that schedule,you're looking at the matchups
who should they beat?
Who are those teams that you'relooking at that schedule right
now and you're like those gamesshould be.

I mean not fairly, should notbe like.
You know, no doubts, but almostno doubts.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well, I think you got to start with the first two at
least, right, grant?
I don't think we'll talk aboutthis, but I don't think Miami of
Ohio is necessarily going to bea cakewalk.
They're not your like typicalFCS warm-up game that the SEC
likes to play.
So I think Miami of Ohio,middle Tennessee for sure like
have to have them.
I think Maryland is the mostwinnable conference game.

They have to win that one.
Outside of that, I don't know,man, things that are like I mean
should win, like got to beatMinnesota to end the year, like
have to beat them.
I want to say Washington, but Ithink they're going to be
pretty good this year too.
Man, I think Iowa is a game yougot to win too.

That's a gettable game.
Outside of that, like I know,illinois is ranked 12th in the
AP pool right now, which I thinkis a little high.
I think they're really good.
I think I hate that Beelum isdoing really, really well with
them, but I also love it becauseit adds a little bit to the
rivalry that really hasn't beenthere for how long.
But and then I just I hateIndiana, just because you know I

think they're frauds.
But that's just, that's me.
I think they're frauds.
So I hate, how much you know.
I hate that they got into acollege football playoff before
the Badgers, whereas if theywere, what?
12 teams?
How many years ago we wouldhave been in multiple times.
But anyways.
So I think I've said that twoto the three non-conference
games Maryland, iowa, then Iwould say Washington and

Minnesota, yeah.

I mean that's putting you right around your win total
.
I think they have marked at 5.5, so it's putting you right
around that win total of that5.5.
So I would be in that same boatright now.
I think we're going to get alot of the questions where
you're like questioning yourselflike, do I think they can win
this game or not?
I think we're going to getthose answers in that game

against miami ohio, because thisis why I say because it's going
to be how they come out in thatgame.
Do they look like they'reprepared?
Do they look like this?
Jeff grimes offense is going toflourish and miami ohio that's
a solid.
Like you said, they're not apushover fcs team by any means.
They're a decent team.
I think they're what's their.
I can't remember theirquarterback off the top of my
head right now Daquan Finn.
The Badgers were looking at him.
The Badgers wanted him.
They settled on.

Was that Mordecai year or wasthat Van Dyke?

Yeah, I think Daquan Finn priced the Badgers out
pretty quick.
I think he went for over amillion dollars and I don't
think the Badgers were quiteready to pay for that.
I think Baylor eventually wonthat out, but he didn't even win
the starting job with them lastyear, and that's something he
ended up not even starting atBaylor then.

So just taking the money, basically, but no playing
time to go along with it.

Transfer portals are crazy.

It definitely is, and that'swhy I'm glad it's over with now.
I'm glad that's over with andwe're just getting to some real
football right now here.
So you look at the games theyshould win, right, what are
those games?
When you look at this schedulewhere you say to yourself, okay,
this would be a momentum gamechanger, luke fickle, pristine
moment.
Where do you see that game onthis schedule where you say to

yourself, if they win this game,we look at luke fickle, we look
at this program, this program,the trajectory all of a sudden
just flips right in the eyes ofyou.
Maybe other Badger fans outthere, if they win that game, I
know, if they beat Alabama,right.
But let's talk realistic here.
Where do you see that game onthe schedule where you're like,
okay, that could be the programdefining the change, the

momentum of where this ship isheading.
Game on the schedule right now.

I mean, yeah, kind of like you said, there's not
going to be any shortage ofgames to pick from on the
schedule.
But I think, if we want to talkrealistic games, I think
Michigan is kind of that game.
I think the Badgers are comingoff a bye.
Yep, the Badgers are going tobe coming off a bye for that
game because they've got anextra week to prepare.
We'll see.

starting quarterback.
I mean I don't know.

I know it's in the big house.
I know the Badgers have totravel on the road, but I mean

they're not beating Alabama,ohio State's.
I mean, unless we go back towhat, 2010,?
Maybe we pull off a big upsetthere, I don't see us going to
Eugene and beating Oregon.
I wouldn't say that a win overIndiana, or necessarily Illinois
, is going to be a programdefining oh we turned it around,
like we're in the rightdirection, kind of thing.
So I think Michigan's probablythat game I would pick If they

won, because what's fickle.
I think it's 0-6 all timeagainst ranked teams, with the
Badgers right, I think.
Granted, I don't know ifMichigan's as good as 14th where
they're ranked right now, but Ithink, going to the big house
beating Michigan, who I'm sure Ithink they have one, I can't
remember their schedules.
I think they have one toughgame in there before the
playoffs, but they're going tobe ranked when we play them.

If we can go there and get awin there, I think that would
definitely change the attitudeof a lot of Badger fans.

then they'll suspend them againfor Central Michigan.

You know Michigan and how thatoperates.
The NCAA doesn't care aboutMichigan, just Wisconsin and
Knizery, fort Greene and allthat kind of stuff there.
So I was looking at this OhioState.
Okay, I know this is a pipedream, so give me my pipe dream

moment of the day.
Here they play Illinois andthen they play Wisconsin and
then they play Penn State.
So give me my pipe dream moment.
Just give me my pipe dreammoment.
But my trap middle of thesandwich game where, if Illinois
is any good and you have PennState after that, you give me my
pipe dream of Wisconsinsandwiched in between them in

Camp Randall, most likely underthe lights, I don't know.
I've seen Ryan Day screw thingsup before he did at Michigan.
That's true, camp Randall.
You've got a healthy Badgersquad coming into that one.
Knock on wood.
A healthy Badger squad Doesn'tturn the ball over.
Hopefully, right, doesn't turnthe ball over.
Run game gets going.
The offensive line looks good.

We've seen crazier things.
We saw number one ohio state godown in camp randall at one
point in 2010 when the badgersgot hot with a bunch of no-name
guys.
Jj watt made a name for himselfin that game.
Crazy things have happened.
Now I'm not saying that's gonnahappen I'm not saying that's
gonna happen, but but that's asandwich game.
That's a a potential game whereI mean following that Penn

State.
That could be because PennState's ranked number two going
into the season.
You could be looking at aone-and-two matchup with Ohio
State and Penn State at onepoint.
Maybe, just maybe it's asandwich.
It's that trap game that wealways worry about with
Wisconsin.
This is the reverse trap gamethat might help out.
So yeah, that was the one thatI saw when I was kind of just

diving into the schedules alittle bit there and, uh, seeing
it across.
So we see those, what would bein your eyes?
So let's look in your eyes here, what would be a successful
season.
A successful season in youreyes is it getting that win
total of that, you know, overunder five and a half.
Is it getting to that?
Is it getting back to a bowlgame?
Because now they, I think theymake it more accessible for bowl
games now, like six winsbasically can get you in yep are
you saying?

(10:53):
are you saying, get back to abowl game.
That's successful.
Is it winning one of those biggames against iowa or minnesota
or illinois, you know, winningone of those?
The those aren't going to bethe program-defining games, but
I mean, luke Fickle is defininggames right because he hasn't
won one of those kinds of gamesyet.
So is it one of those?
What is a successful season inyour eyes for this Wisconsin

(11:14):
Badger?

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I mean I think it could be a couple things right.
I think getting, especiallywith this schedule considered,
if they get back to a bowl gamegame, I think that's a success.
I know that's kind of like thecheap way out and I know Badge
fans still can be happy with the6-6 record, but if you're
playing what 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6teams that are currently ranked,

including 3 of them, are in thetop 8.
You know what I mean.
They easily have I.
I know, like people love to talkabout how difficult the sec
schedule is, but, like outsideof the sec, the badgers have the
hardest schedule in all ofcollege football.
So, yep, you got to temper yourexpectations.
Yes, we all want to turn around, we want them to look really

(11:58):
good and I think.
But when you play a schedulethis difficult this isn't the
big 10 west, right you can'tjust sleepwalk through and just
rack up wins.
They're going to have to workreally hard for a lot of these
wins and they're not just goingto get wins just by showing up
like they have in the past.
So I think with that, if youget six wins here and you're
bowl eligible with the fifthhardest schedule in college

(12:22):
football, whatever it is, Ithink that's a success.
On the other hand, I think, evenif maybe they only win five
games and they miss a bowl gameif you beat Iowa and Minnesota,
I don't want to say it's asuccess.
But I think that's going tomake some Badger fans happy
because right now that trophycase is empty.
I can't remember the last timeit's ever been empty.

(12:42):
But it's empty right now andthere's nothing in there.
So I think if they can get themboth back at the ax, back at
the Heartland trophy, back Idon't know or maybe if they just
beat, maybe, if what?
If they do?
Just pull a huge upset overOhio state, like, and then maybe
sprinkling three, four otherwins, like you only have five
wins but you beat Oregon, that'slike a program turnaround, a

defining win, even though maybethe rest of the season didn't go
the way you wanted.
But maybe you have somemomentum going into the next
season after pulling off a hugegame like that.
Yeah.

I would agree.
No, I would agree with that100%.
I think you got to get thatdefined.
I think Luke Fickle needs thatdefining win.
I think he needs that signaturewin on his resume.
That will calm down a lot ofBadger fans if he, like you said
, it's.
I don't think it's as much thathe lost the trophies.
I think it's the way that helost them.
I think it was the mutt kickingsthat were delivered when he
lost those trophies that I thinkkind of put the number on them

So I would say I would agreewith you successful season.
Get back to a bowl game.
And if you don't, even if youdon't just getting those wins
along the way, getting aminnesota, getting an iowa
winning those kinds of game orgetting that signature program
win like we're talking about theohio state or somebody crazy
like that would definitely bethere.

minnesota is 5, and then any ofwhat They'll get, one against
either Washington, indiana orIllinois.

the season and everything likethat.

But let's get into this gamemiami ohio.
So we got an eight o'clock kickright for this one.
It's going to be a light onehere at Camp.
Randall on the Big Ten NetworkBadgers favored right now,

according to ESPN, they'regiving them an 83% chance to win
.
Kind of sucks that they're onlygetting an 83% chance to beat
Miami of Ohio, seeing as mostpeople don't even know that
Miami of Ohio is a place.
So, christian, looking at thisteam, what do you see?
When you look at Miami of Ohio,I mean, just give me a rundown

(18:48):
of this team.
I know there's probably not awhole lot to go off of at this
very moment, but just give me arundown.
What is this team like?
What do we expect from miami ofohio?

Speaker 2 (18:55):
I think they're gonna be tough man, like we talked
about a little bit last segment.
But I think this is not gonnabe just an easy non-conference
game.
They they're, I think, goingoff of last year they're a very
solid defensive team.
They didn't lose a whole lot.
And you can tell they didn'tlose a lot because I sat and
looked through their transfers.
I wrote a preview for theBadger backer.
Nice little plug there.

I looked at the transfer formand like they brought in 14 guys
and I think one guy was ondefense it was a defensive
lineman and I couldn't even findhim anywhere on the two deep
depth charts.
So either he's just not even onthe team anymore or he's just
not that good or not as good asthe guys that they already had.
So I think they're pretty soliddefensively.
Um, I guess we'll start withdefense.

(19:39):
Um, they got a pair of safetiesthat I was looking at Silas
Walters and Eli Blakely.
Walters had 95 tackles lastyear as a safety and Blakely had
89.
These are like combined tackles, right, not solo tackles.
They don't really produce awhole lot of turnovers or
interceptions, stuff like that,but they're just stout

(20:00):
defensively.
I think they're actually areally good run defense.
They had a couple guys I thinkthey gave up like the 15th
fewest rushing yards per gamelast season in all of college
football, not just like group offive or whatever.
So I think the like something Iwrote in my preview.
I think we're definitely goingto see the offensive line and

(20:24):
just the you know the JeffGrimes running game that
everyone's talking about, howwe're trying to make that a
focal point of the Badgersoffense.
Again, we're going to see if ityou know how good they actually
are, cause they got a couple ofguys on the defensive line to
keep an eye on.
Uh, what's his name?
Nazeer Washington.
He's a redshirt senior.

(20:47):
He had 31 tackles last year,two tackles for us, three pass
deflections as a defensivelineman.
But on PFF, if anyone followsthat, he had an elite run
defense grade of 86.1, which waslike what was it?
I think it was top 10 in thecountry for like great.
So I mean I don't think he hadlike that many necessarily reps
or, but the fact that he gradedout that high it tells you he's

(21:08):
pretty good.
Yeah, they have a pretty stoutdefensive line.
So our offensive line whichwe're getting, we're getting our
starting center back, jakeRenfro's back, so that's good.
So we're only going to betested there.
They got a couple goodlinebackers too Corbin Hondrew

(21:33):
and Oscar McWood.
Both have just which.
Actually, corbin Hondrew,whatever he is, he had three
interceptions last week.
He led the team.
That's the linebacker.
So I thought that wasinteresting too.
But I think he might be kind oflike one of those hybrid safety
linebackers, so, yep, and thenoffensively, just kind of
looking at him, I think thebiggest test the batters are

(21:53):
going to have is theirquarterback is, uh, daquan finn
we talked about a last segment alittle bit went to baylor.
Uh, what was that?
Toledo before that had a bigseason in his junior year.
We had 2,600 passing yards, 22touchdowns, 9 picks.
But he's a mobile quarterbackand they absolutely give the
Badgers fits.
I think we talked about this alittle bit during the break, but

(22:14):
last year when Drew Allard gothurt in the Penn State game, or
I think it was still oh, theBadgers were up 10-7 at halftime
of the Penn State game.
Right, drew Eller goes out, boPribula comes in and all of a
sudden they just fall apart.
What did Bo Pribula add?
He had 28.
He had six carries for 28 yardsand I'm pretty sure all those

(22:36):
carries were like back breakerson third downs or something like
that.
And then the Iowa game oh, thatguy had like 50-some yards
rushing against us and he wasanother backup quarterback.
So I think we really last yearthey really really struggled
with dual-threat quarterbacks,right.
I think Tackett Curtis was hurtall year last year.

(22:57):
We didn't really get to see himto his full potential.
Everything I saw from him infall camp is like just his speed
.
I think hissideline-to-sideline speed is
really going to be shown onThursday night and hopefully
he'll help.
Uh, between him and ChristianAllegro, hopefully contain or
contain the uh dual threatquarterback on Thursday night.

I guess for me the widereceiver this was the biggest

I guess I would say the widereceiver room we saw chris
brooks jr get in opposite ofvinnie anthony over top of a guy
like jayden baylor.
So that was interesting, thatwider serum.

Also, seeing that we saw eugenehilton in there as one of the
backups.
So that was pretty cool to seeeugene hilton being talked about
in that same light.
So I guess were you surprisedto see chris brooks instead of
jayden baylor in there?

Okay, I initially, and then Ithought about it a little bit.
Jaden Ballard was.
He made a lot of headlinesduring spring ball.
He had a lot.
He apparently had a prettygood-looking connection with
Billy Edwards Jr.

From what I've heard, all thepractices I went to this fall I

really didn't even noticeBallard in any of their 11-on-11
or 7-on-7 stuff.
But I honestly didn't reallynotice Chris Brooks Jr either.
I noticed a lot of VinnyAnthony and I noticed a lot of
Eugene Hilton Jr.
But Chris Brooks Jr though he'sbeen one of those guys like
you've heard over the last fewyears, like has a ton of
potential, he has a ton offlashes during practice and

stuff, but then you just neversee him in a game.
So maybe just he did enough.
They liked it.
He's athletic.
It's going to take a minute forme to remember that he's number
one now, not 84 or whatever hewas.

I've heard he changed it a couple times.
Now I've heard he changedaround.

So if you see number one on offense, that's who that
is, because I went to a practiceand I'm like who is this number
one guy?
Like there's no number one onthe roster.
I couldn't figure out who itwas.
They did the same thing ondefense.

I was extremely confused, but so, yeah, that
gets me every time is when guysthe ball have the same number

It was just a surprise to metoo, when I noticed that was one
of the first things I noticed.

love, or so I don't know ifmason rieger is going to be out

I know last year he came insome high expectations.
He was a huge, highly soughtafter recruit, went to usc
instead of wisconsin, came towisconsin but just wasn't never
100 healthy.
So, um, now apparently he is.
He says he is, uh, he lookslike it.
In the few practices I've beento he's has a lot of speed for a

So that's a guy I'm really,really looking forward to
watching on thursday night,tomorrow night okay I like that
