What if six simple breaths could flip your system from scattered to centered and prime your body for real energetic change? Christine Renee explores how intentional breathing supports Shamanic Reiki—from using the exhale to help clients release stagnant energy to a full microcosmic orbit practice that “power washes” your chakras with focus and care.

She then maps the microcosmic orbit: inhale up the back, exhale down the front, visualize a Reiki energy ball tracing the loop, and add gentle locks at the palate and root to concentrate flow. Layer in earth energy from below and source from above, and the circuit becomes a steady river rather than a trickle. Then bring in Tantra’s three keys—breath, movement, and sound—to soften rigid form into living practice. Undulate the spine to recruit the fascia, voice the exhale to free the throat, and let intention lead. Whether you’re working solo, with a client, or with a partner, this approach meets you where you are and moves what’s ready to move.

In this episode, we explore:

• Six-breath centering for release and tuning

• Matching breath with clients to invite participation

• Throat center as primary exit pathway

• Case study of hip pain and emotional release

• Microcosmic orbit explained with energy ball focus

• Adding movement and sound to deepen flow

• Transitioning from structured form to fluid tantra

• Masterclass details and free webinar invitation

And welcome, welcome, welcome toour whispers of wisdom this

(01:51):
morning.
Today's topic is going to be onshamanic Reiki and breath work
and how these two go really handin hand.
I'm really excited to talk aboutthis because I was having some
aha moments about how muchbreath work has always been a
part of my practice.
And I'm just coming to the fullunderstanding of how often I've

(02:13):
used it over the years and howmuch I've been doing it pretty
unconsciously.
And now it's more my consciousunderstanding and why I'm doing
the things that I do in a morepotent way.
And so I wanted to share thatwith you all today.
And so what we're going to dotoday is we're going to start
with our hands in prayer pose.
I'm going to invite you to joinalong with me if you are

(02:33):
listening somewhere where it'ssafe to bring your hands to
heart center.
And we're going to take threenice deep breaths, inhaling
through the nose, exhalingthrough the mouth to release and
let go what no longer serves youin this time and in this moment.
When you really want to blow itout or sigh it out, letting it

(02:58):
all go.
And when we exhale, it's likeblowing down the body, blowing
everything that we're ready torelease and pushing it and
offering it to Mother Earth forher reuse and recycling.
And now we're gonna take threenice deep breaths, inhaling
through the nose, exhalingthrough the nose to tune into

(03:19):
spirit.
Really feeling that connectionfrom root to crown.

(03:56):
And it's I'm not really sureexactly where I picked it up.
It's just something that I'veI've practiced, and it very much
has allowed me to drop into thatspiritual space very quickly.
And so this is something I dobefore I start my classes,
before I start my sessions withmy clients, and it helps me get

(04:17):
centered.
It helps me blow out the day andwhat no longer serves me in that
time and that moment, and thenreally connect in and align with
my own energy and with sourceenergy.
And so feel free to add thatinto your own practice.
And it's like a muscle memoryfor me.
I've been doing this for so manyyears that when I take my

(04:38):
breath, when I start out withthese six breaths, it's like,
okay, I'm in.
I'm totally centered and readyto go.
And it's such a gift in that, that um it's so tangible for me
to drop into that space.
So no matter how crazy my dayhas been, no matter how many

(04:59):
balls I feel like I'm juggling,I can take a moment and come
right into centered space.
And so we're with the hands inGosho, this is our two hands
coming together, meditation andReiki.
And it doesn't even have to bethat long.
It's just saying here I am,balancing my feminine and

(05:19):
masculine energy, balancing mybreath, taking the inhale and
the exhale fully and completely.
And here I am ready to go.
So, just with that is the startof my breath work practice,
right?
Like it doesn't have tonecessarily be this hour-long
thing or a 20-minute thing.
It can just be consciousbreathing.

(05:39):
And with that, I'm now tuned inand ready for whatever spiritual
activity is ahead of me.
And I love that.
And the other thing that I wasnoticing the other day, I had a
client come in for her firstshamanic Reiki session.
And I was noticing the client'sbreath and how she was

(06:00):
breathing.
And one of the things I oftenoffer or suggest to my clients
or invite them into is if I takea nice deep breath, that's an
invitation for you to take anice deep breath.
And on those exhales, it's I'mreleasing, I'm releasing on the
client's behalf.
And so this is where thatshamanic side of shamanic Reiki

(06:22):
comes in of like, I'm utilizingthe breasts to release and
remove things from their energyfields or release the tension or
whatever it may be that's goingon in the client's energetic
space.
And so it's once again thebreath shows up.
So I'm suggesting that theclient do this as well because

(06:43):
when they breathe, it's likethey're in concert with me,
they're in unison with me of theintention of release that we're
letting that glow go.
And so some clients pick up onthis right away and that they're
like actively involved in theirsession.
Like I love how breath canactively involve your client and

(07:06):
that in that participation, itbecomes more powerful.
Like they're saying yes, yes tothat release, yes to this
experience, yes to thebalancing, yes to whatever it
is, yes to removing things.
And so that's really a lovelyway to quietly engage with your

(07:26):
client's um participation,right?
And it can be even more active.
I remember years and years ago,I was doing a shamanic Reiki
session for a client, and hercounselor had originally sent
her my way because she had theinability to cry and have a big
emotional release.
And so the counselor sent her myway and was just like, see what

(07:47):
you can do.
I can't get this woman to cry.
I've seen her for two years.
Within five minutes, she wascrying, which was kind of the
goal of the session is to allowemotional energy to move.
But within a few sessions in,you know, we kept practicing, we
kept peeling back these layerson the exhale, and she was very
ready to participate.

(08:09):
And I remember one session, Iwas energetically scanning her
body and I came to her hip andshe was having hip issues.
She likes coming in, she waskind of in a limp.
She kind of looked a littlegimpy.
And I was like, and so when Ifelt into it, I'm like, what is
going on here?
It feels like you have a spearpiercing your hip, your um thigh

(08:32):
there.
And I energetically kind of feltinto it.
And I was like, who does this?
Who did this?
Who would throw a spear at youto slow you down?
And she knew exactly right awaywho it was.
She was like, It's my ex.
I want this divorce.
He doesn't want to move forwardin the paperwork.
And I'm just really strugglingbecause he won't meet me in

(08:54):
finishing the paperwork.
And I'm like, Well, yeah, I canI can energetically feel all of
that.
And so I said, Are you ready forhealing?
Are you ready to release thisfrom your body?
And she was like, Yes,absolutely.
I want to be done with this.
I want my my hip to heal.
I want my the emotions around itto heal.
I'm I'm ready for this.
I go, okay, well, let's takesome nice deep breaths.

(09:17):
And so that breath is like, one,it's that centering energy.
And two, it's going to supportthat exhale release, exhale
release.
So we're breathing and I'mmatching my breath with the
client, and I'm holding on tothat energetic spear, and I'm
kind of loosening it with thebreath.
So imagine kind of like a slowrocking back and forth as like

(09:40):
you're holding on energeticallyand you're just wiggling it
loose, like a loose tooth,right?
We're just loosening it up.
And on the exhale, I told herI'm like, okay, we're ready.
We're gonna release on this nextone.
Nice deep big breath and releaseand big exhale.
And we pulled the spear out andwe released it to the earth,

(10:03):
where literally it became likeenergetically.
I could see the spear going tothe earth and then growing into
a beautiful sunflower, likeinstantly transmuted, instantly
changed into somethingbeautiful.
And she could feel itenergetically.
She had a nice good cry.
And breath was so supportive inher participation.

(10:24):
Like she could energetically, emotionally, and physically get
on board with the action takingplace in that moment.
How cool is that, right?
And so she had this beautifulrelease.
She didn't have any hip issuesafter that.
And that was that was years ago.
And so with my client this lastweek, it was noticing her

(10:47):
breath.
And even with the prompt ofgoing, you know, feel free to
exhale when I take a nice bigexhale.
We're just releasing thatenergy.
And there are some clients whoare a lot more meek, right?
And yet they're intentional.
And that's what I was noticingabout this client is that in the
beginning, her breath was reallyshallow and that it wasn't

(11:10):
really moving energy through.
And then about halfway through, you could see her lips slowly
part, slow, let a little bitopen, and a light breath, a
light blow came out.
So I knew that intentionally, energetically, she was exhaling
with purpose.
And so I was matching my breathwith her breath to help

(11:34):
encourage and supportenergetically what she was
moving through.
And I doesn't necessarily needto know what she's moving
through.
I just know that we'rereleasing.
And the cool thing about themouth is that it is an excellent
exit strategy for things thatneed to move, right?
So we can energetically pushdown things through our feet,

(11:56):
through our perineum, and torelease down into the earth,
like we're releasing through ourroot chakra.
A lot of people release throughtheir throat, through their
mouth.
It is like the easiest exitstrategy for emotions to move
through, whether this is inbreath, words, sound, it's it's
a great exit strategy.

(12:18):
And so if you can get yourclients on board with this, it's
fantastic.
So here I am doing my session, and I've got this client who's
just barely opening her mouthand blowing out.
And so my job is okay, I'm gonnamatch her energy in that.
I'm gonna breathe when shebreathes.
I'm gonna exhale when sheexhales.

(12:38):
And when I move my hand over herbody, I'm just gonna bring it up
towards the throat andenergetically pull away from the
mouth.
So whatever she's exhaling, I'mjust supporting that.
I'm here just to help thatenergetic movement of moving
whatever is ready to releasefrom the body up to the throat,
release through the mouth on theexhale.

(12:59):
And so we did this for a goodlong while, and you could really
sense that she was havingshifts, that there were
movements happening.
And so when I could go backthrough and do some chakra
spinning, some energeticbalancing, like it felt better,
like she had energetically movedthat energy.
So when when I'm talking aboutbreath work and shamanic Reiki,

(13:21):
it doesn't need to be bigbreaths, it needs to be
intentional breaths, right?
And so whether you're breathingsmall or big, it's the intention
behind it, the purpose behind itthat's supportive, right?
So that does that make sense?
Okay.
So when the other thing that Ilove to do with clients,

(13:42):
especially if I'm at their heador at their feet, is that I love
to energetically envisionbreathing up their back and
exhaling down their front.
So this is an energetic loop inthe body that we have that moves
up the back and exhale down thefront.
Now, this is a practice that Ilearned probably 20 years ago.

(14:06):
It's called microcosmic orbit.
And one of the books that Istudied from as a young Reiki
practitioner was EssentialReiki.
Don't necessarily recommend thatbook.
There's pieces of it that areinaccurate, that that don't
support um trust in thepractice.
And so it's not one that Irecommend necessarily, but it

(14:28):
there is that practice in thereof microcosmic orbit that I fell
in love with and I absolutelylove it.
And it's about moving energythrough.
And it's actually a Taoistpractice, it's not inherently a
Reiki practice, it just happensto be in this Reiki book that I
trained from, and it shows youthe energetic patterns, the

(14:49):
energetic highways in the bodyof moving the energy up your
back and down your front.
And when you can breathe likethis, I used to start, and I
still teach my students to dothis, is you create an energetic
ball in your hand.
So you create your energy ball, your Reiki ball, you grow it to

(15:11):
about the size of maybe a plumor a baseball or a grapefruit,
like something that you cantangibly, tangibly um visualize
and see, and you can envision itin a color, you can place Reiki
symbols in it, and you're goingto have this energy bubble

(15:32):
follow that pathway, whetherit's outside of your body
running along your skin, orinside internally running along
your it helps the mind stayfocused on what you're doing.
So your job is to pay attentionand follow that energetic line
of where the ball is going.

(15:53):
And as your energy ball, as yourReiki ball moves through each of
the chakras on the back and onthe front, that Reiki intention,
that Reiki symbol is going toheal along that pathway, right?
Okay.
So you're breathing up yourback, you're exhaling down your
front.
Now, the cool thing about thispractice is that you can

(16:15):
continue to add layers to it tomake it more uh more intense,
more intentional, more powerful.
And those are by creating theselock systems in your body.
And so you have the point on theback of your um palate, on the
back of your teeth at on thepalate that you can put your

(16:36):
tongue up against.
And then there's another lockplace on the other exit.
Notice here we go again, we havean exit out the mouth and an
exit at your perineum.
And so at the perineum, you'regoing to do a root lock, which
is kind of like a kegel, exceptyou're just lightly squeezing
the front and back together.
And so for women, think about akegel, but you're not pulling

(16:57):
up.
And for men, think about themuscle that it takes to stop
your urine flow midstream.
Same, same energy.
That's that little, that littlesqueeze, right?
So here's our exit points at theperineum, at the root chakra,
and at on the mouth.
It's closing the exits.
And so when you have thisenergetic circuit going in your

(17:20):
body, breathing your energyball, breathing the energy up
your back, exhaling down yourfront, you are able to lock
those in and it becomes like asuper power wash of your
chakras.
You're moving through all sevenof your chakras, giving it this
power wash.
And what you can intentionallydo is receive energy up your

(17:44):
legs, up your feet to supportthat breath flow.
So you're breathing up theearth's energy into that
circuit, and then you'reexhaling, but you're also
pulling energy from above divinesource down into your body.
So now you're really powerhousewashing all of your chakras, all

(18:05):
of your insides, and you'refeeling that energetic flow.
Okay, so this was the primarypractice I learned some 20 years
ago, and it can help enhanceyour attunement processes.
That's what I was taught.
That's how I practiced, that'swhat I do for my attunements to
help support the attunementprocess.
If you're interested in that, please let me know.

(18:27):
I have a whole like um, I doprivate training sessions for
Reiki master teachers and masterclasses and those types of
things.
So if you're interested inlearning specifically on that,
let me know.
But the focus here today isnoticing how your own breath can
be part of your Reiki practice, how it can be part of your own
healing work, right?

(18:48):
And so here I am breathing in mycircuit that I've done this a
long time ago.
Now I was went to my firsttantra retreat about a year ago,
and we were doing a practicesimilar to this.
We were moving energy up theback, we were exhaling down the
front.
Basic microcosmic orbit.

(19:09):
Except what they were suggestingfor this all-women's space is
that we undulate the spine withit.
So now we're bringing inmovement, we're breathing and
now we're moving.
And so you're breathing up thespine and undulating your body
so that you're pulling energy upfrom the earth and letting your
body be almost snake-like inmoving that energy up on the

(19:34):
inhale.
Exhale, you're like curving yourback and then bringing that
energy up once again, right?
So now we have two of the threekeys that are tantra.
So um, some of the tantra tools, the the three keys of tantra are
breath, sound, and movement.
So now here we have microcosmicor orbit with the breath.

(19:57):
We have the movement in there.
And then what if we added insound, right?
So breath movement and sound arethe three keys.
And so we've got microcosmicorbit, and now we're sounding
this through, sounding what thebody needs to sound like on that
exhale.
So we're sighing out, we'remoaning, whatever it feels like,

(20:17):
what is organic and alive in us,we're letting that energy move
us, move it through.
And voila, my originalmicrocosmic orbit Reiki practice
has now become a tantrapractice.
And when I first did this forit, it's like, oh my God, I've
been doing this for years.
I've just been doing it in moreof a like masculine structured

(20:42):
way, and yet I can bring thiselement to it and it can be so
much more powerful in movingenergy.
And so when I think about breathwork, if I when I even think
about tantra, I think about howare we moving energy?
I think I have become so uhexcited and um yeah, like I feel

(21:03):
excited about continuouslearning, but it's like, how do
we move energy is always kind ofthe the backbone of what my
passion and purpose is is how amI moving energy?
How can I support others to moveenergy all for alignment for
balancing of the chakras, right?
And so here I am doingmicrocosmic orbit, and now I'm

(21:28):
bringing it into and mixing itin with the tantral world.
And then I can also see howthat's showing up in my shamanic
Reiki session.
So when I'm with a client andI'm standing at their head or at
their feet, I'm energeticallywith my breath moving that
energy in their circuit.
And if I can match my breathwith the client's breath, that's

(21:52):
also gonna be powerful.
Now, the the third step thatwould make it even more potent
would be to explain this to theclients.
Okay, let's breathe up the back, exhale down the feet, release,
inhale up the back, exhale,release.
I'm gonna do this with you, right?
And so I'm moving energy throughtheir system.
So I'm if I'm at their head, I'mholding their cranial bones in

(22:16):
my hands, I'm holding their headand I'm pulling that energy up.
I'm breathing that energy uptheir spine, exhaling it down
the front.
And if I'm at the feet, I'mpulling that energy down the
front of the body and releasingit, right?
And so it's really cool when youhave another Reiki practitioner
who can stand at the polaropposite of you.
So if I'm at the feet, someoneelse is at the head, and then

(22:38):
we're passing the energy backand forth with the assistance of
Reiki.
So it's like, I feel likethere's so much of my practices
that I have done over, you know, over two decades now, where it's
like breath has been there, breath has supported me, and now
I'm learning how to even make itmore potent, right?

(23:01):
More um, more feminine, moreflowy, more tangible almost.
Because when we get into apractice where it's like, okay,
I want you to sit with yourspine straight, don't move, put
your hands in prayer pose andbreathe it like this for as long
as possible, right?
Like I think about going toJapan and I'm sitting in these

(23:24):
Zen meditation positions whereit's like, if you move, I'm
gonna hit you with the stick, you know, and that's traditional
Zen meditation.
I'm like, well, that's not verysoft, right?
And so, like, I feel like whenI'm doing breath work in the
tantra way, it's become moreflowy, it becomes more sensual.

(23:46):
And to me, that feels more inalignment of my practice, right?
So I can do this for myself, Ican do this with a partner, and
I can do this for my clients tohelp enhance their sessions just
with breath.
Like we're holding hands andfeet, and we're just
energetically moving thosepathways through.

(24:07):
So that's what I really wasexcited to share with you this
morning about how shamanic Reikiand Breath Work can really go
hand in hand.
And with that, I'd like toinvite you to our five-week
intro to tantra masterclass,Awakening Aliveness to the
Tantric Arts of Breath, Sound, and Movement.
Over those five weeks, JimMcDonnell, and myself are going

(24:29):
to offer this class to help youdiscover how sacred space, along
with the three keys of Tantra, breath, movement, and sound, can
transform your intimate lifeinto a sacred healing practice.
Expect gentle, guided practices, practical tools for deeper
connection, and a chance to askquestions live.
All are welcome.

(24:51):
Just come with an open heart andknow that whether you are in a
partnership, whether you aresingle, whether you come solo or
as a couple, you are welcome inthe space.
So each week we're gonna bringdifferent elements forward.
So in the first week, on thatNovember 5th class, week one,
we're gonna be talking about howto create sacred space and build

(25:13):
the foundations of trust.
So these are really potentenergy work to create the space
so that you feel comfortablegoing into vulnerable places.
The second week is going to beon the first key of Tantra,
which is breath, breath work.
The third week is the second keyon movement.
And the fourth week, we're gonnaget into sound.

(25:37):
On the fifth week, it's gonna bean integration week, and we're
gonna really feel into the groupof what they have shown interest
in.
Where do we want to dive indeeper?
What how does this all cometogether to create a sacred sex
life?
And so this each class is goingto be offering a ceremony, like
creating that sacred space.

(25:57):
It's going to offer a lesson andit's going to include some type
of somatic experience.
We really want to have this bean experiential process.
So be sure to come with yourquestions.
Be sure to come with an openheart and mind.
And we would love for you tobring your partners to this.
But once again, this is amasterclass that is absolutely

(26:21):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
