Hi there!

When it comes to live video, choosing the right platform

is one of the easiest ways to set yourself up for success.

In fact, it's one of the most important first-steps to

positioning yourself in a way where your videos will gain

the most traction.

Different platforms are suited for different types of

content, so you want to make sure you’re choosing the one

that makes the most sense for your business.

In today’s email, we’ll walk you through the major social

media platforms with live video capabilities.

First up,

Facebook:

Live video on Facebook is great because of the number of

people who use Facebook on a regular basis.

In other words, chances are that if your business caters

to a 30+ year-old demographic, your audience is already

there.

Furthermore, there are lots of ways to be discovered. In

fact, people can find your live video from all of the

following:

* The top of their feed with other stories.

* Within their feed directly from you.

* Within their feed, because their friend interacted with

your live video.

* Searching for your account.

On Facebook, you can go live from either your phone or your

computer.

We recommend starting with your phone (unless your computer’s

webcam is better than your phone’s selfie camera).

During your live, you’ll see viewers’ comments in real time.

In the live comments, you can also respond, react, or moderate

the comments section.

Once you end the live video, you can turn it into a regular

video on your page so that everyone can watch it.

Alternatively, you can share it to your story so that it’s

only available for 24 hours.

Instagram:

If you’re catering to a younger demographic than Facebook,

Instagram is a solid choice.

On Instagram, live videos are displayed before regular stories

in the stories tab. This means that live videos are the first

thing on a user’s screen when they launch Instagram, making you

highly discoverable.

Your profile picture on your account will also indicate

whether you’re live or not, so users who don’t follow you

can also watch your live.

Like Facebook, you can see and interact with comments in real

time.

And once you end the video, you can share it in your story.

YouTube:

YouTube is different from other social media platforms because

it works like a mix of a search engine and a recommendation

algorithm.

This makes it easier for you to get your content in front of lots

of different people.

To host a live video on Youtube, you need to verify your channel

(this is not the same as getting a verified badge) and have at

least 1,000 followers.

Once you meet these requirements, you can start streaming live

videos in 24 hours!

YouTube lets you stream vertically or horizontally. Vertical

live streams are good for creating a casual atmosphere with

less planning.

Horizontal live streams work well for more formal topics or

live videos with two or more hosts.

That’s all for today. I'll email you again soon with details

on the best gear for creating outstanding live video content.
