In this episode, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down once again with my hubby Josh — aka Macca — for a deep dive into the all-too-relatable topic of the mental load.
A little while back, we did a special YEAH THE DADS episode with my former radio colleague and brekky host legend Matty Baseley, where they answered your questions about modern-day dad life. (If you haven’t listened to that yet — highly recommend!)
During that chat, the topic of the mental load came up, and we referenced an incredible tool called the Fair Play cards — designed to help couples identify, share, and balance the invisible work that goes into running a household.
So, Macca and I decided to sit down, crack open the Fair Play deck, and have a go at dividing and conquering the massive invisible to-do list that life throws at us.
Let’s just say... it wasn’t as easy as we thought.
We talked through what our home life looks like day-to-day, and tried to fairly divvy up responsibilities across the five card categories — and quickly realised just how much there is to do (and think about) behind the scenes.
(SIDE NOTE: Mid-recording we figured out we weren’t quite interpreting some of the cards properly — and only later discovered the Fair Play website has full explanations. LOL. Highly recommend checking it out first if you give it a go yourselves.)
💬 We talk:
What the mental load really looks like day-to-day
Dividing (and negotiating!) household responsibilities
How tricky it can be to fairly assign tasks
Communicating needs and expectations as a couple
Why it’s okay not to get it perfect on the first try

Boysober
Have you ever wondered what life might be like if you stopped worrying about being wanted, and focused on understanding what you actually want? That was the question Hope Woodard asked herself after a string of situationships inspired her to take a break from sex and dating. She went "boysober," a personal concept that sparked a global movement among women looking to prioritize themselves over men. Now, Hope is looking to expand the ways we explore our relationship to relationships. Taking a bold, unfiltered look into modern love, romance, and self-discovery, Boysober will dive into messy stories about dating, sex, love, friendship, and breaking generational patterns—all with humor, vulnerability, and a fresh perspective.
