Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Drea (00:00):
We
are making our own story as we
go, as we go, as we go, Hopin'.
We are hopin' that we'll go.
So ever after, ever after.
Hi, welcome to your Dream Daypodcast.
(00:31):
I'm your host, KathyPiech-Lukas, and today we are
having part two of a two-partpodcast about Wendy's Wedding
Expo, which is going to behappening on January 6th and 7th
at the Duke Energy ConventionCenter in downtown Cincinnati.
You can get your tickets onlineat www.
wendysweddingexpo.
com.
Tickets in advance are going tobe $10, whereas at the door
(00:53):
they'll be $12.
So every bride has a budget andwe are trying to contribute
little by little to keeping thatbudget in check right, that's
right.
But one of the things that'svery, very unique about Wendy's
is the fashion show.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (01:09):
We
do a full production runway
fashion show with dresses fromour store, Wendy's Bridal, which
is in the heart of the ReadingBridal District.
It's a lot of fun, it's a lotof music, it's professional
models.
We bring our best dresses andthe girls just love to see the
dresses move on the runway.
They take snapshots of theirfavorites so that when they make
(01:30):
the appointment to come in thestore they can have an idea of
you.
Can you show me this dress oris there something similar?
It's just a great way to beginyour wedding dress shopping.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Y (01:41):
Absolutely
.
And when the brides go on thatwedding dress shopping trip,
what are some things that theyshould do?
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Weddi (01:50):
First
thing is make an appointment.
The appointment guarantees thatyou have a sales associate
that's dedicated to you, thatyou have a spot in front of the
mirror, that you have a dressingroom, that you have someone
that will have the time just foryou to help you find the
dresses, and what they'll do isinitially have you pick out a
few that you like that matchwhat you envision, and then,
(02:13):
once you put those on, they mayhave other suggestions.
And please go with that, because when the dress is on you
, it may not be the same as whatyou were thinking, but they can
get an idea from that.
We have a dress thataccentuates this or adds this to
the vision of what you thoughtthis was going to look like.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (02:31):
Yes
, so if the sales rep brings you
a dress that you're kind oflike okay, well, that's not like
the picture that I showed you,but just try it on for kicks and
good, because that's whathappened to me.
I was gung-ho that I was goingto have spaghetti straps.
Every picture I was tearing outwas a spaghetti strap dress.
And when I was trying on mywedding dresses, the sales
(02:52):
associate brought a straplessdress and I'm like I don't know
if I want a strapless dressbecause I've got swimmers
shoulders, you know, and I triedit on and it just it fit like a
glove, it complimented myfigure.
And then the three thingshappened.
The three things when you findthe dress, first you you start
(03:14):
swishing in it and then youstart petting your hips and
checking yourself out in themirror, then you don't want to
take it off, right, and then youcry.
And then usually, if you'regoing to cry, it happens shortly
after that.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wed (03:25):
Usually
it's somebody in the entourage
that starts crying, and thenthat just starts the whole
Niagara Falls process, right andwhen you do make your
appointment, make sure you'rebringing the people that are
most important to you.
You may think, oh, I'm justbeginning, I'm just shopping and
I'm going to check it out.
It is very likely that youmight find the dress on your
(03:46):
first trip shopping and youdon't want you know if it's mom,
you want mom to be there.
You can't reenact that momentof putting on that dress and
showing it to someone for thefirst time.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (03:55):
And
they can make a day out of it.
I mean, one of the thingsthat's so great about Wendy's
Bridal is it's located in theReading Bridal District, which
is the largest bridal districtof its kind in North America.
People come from hundreds ofmiles to Reading, which is why
you need the appointment, especially on a weekend.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (04:10):
On
a weekday we could probably do
a walk-in, but on a weekend youdefinitely need an appointment.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (04:15):
What
are some of the dresses that
you're seeing brides walking outthe door with what is hot in
2024?
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Weddin (04:22):
Well
, it's funny because the hot
does change, but there's alwaysthe classics, there's always the
satins.
The strapless is a wonderfulsilhouette for a lot of women,
fitted kind of fit and flare.
The big ball gowns we have allof those and those all fit
everybody's budget and style.
So we want to be able to offerthose.
(04:43):
But also things like detachablesleeves change the whole look
of a dress.
It's funny how you wouldn'tthink so but you slip that
sleeve on and most of them arelace sleeves and they're
beautiful.
Or especially winter wedding,if you put the little fur stole
on, there's all.
And a sparkly belt.
There's all kinds of ways topersonalize the dress, to make
(05:05):
it even more yours.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (05:07):
And
that was one of the things we
definitely saw in 2023 was thechanging of the dress from the
ceremony to the reception, andwhat's so nice about this sleeve
trend is that it is like havingtwo dresses in one.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (05:20):
Yes
, because it really does change
the look and so you can be moredepending on your ceremony style
, but certainly maybe a littlemore refined and then a little
more fun.
And people do that with shoestoo.
They have their shoes for theceremony and then they have
their shoes for the reception, because you want to be
comfortable at your reception.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Drea (05:37):
Oh
, and actually speaking of
different shoes, when you go toyour final fitting, bring both
pairs.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Weddin (05:45):
Well
, when you come to your first
alterations appointment, youneed to have the shoes and the
undergarments and multiple shoes.
How to do a bustle, how to fitthe dress for the length that
you're going to be being someone, that is teachable to know how
to do the bustle.
There is a skill to that andthere's different kinds of
bustles.
(06:05):
So whoever's going to help youbustle that day needs to come to
your final fitting.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (06:09):
Well
, and the two bustles that I see
the most as a wedding plannerare the French bustle, which is
a fancy way of saying the tiesunderneath the dress, and then
the other one is more of like ahook or a button, which would be
an American bustle.
The most I've ever had was 30.
Oh my.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (06:30):
You
have to plan in the day of the
wedding.
You have to plan 15 minutes tobustle the gown.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Drea (06:35):
Oh
, that one, we definitely.
I mean that one took about 20minutes.
It was a designer dress andliterally we had her get on her
knees in the middle of the floorand that we had to go around
because the bustle was a 360,and we had to do it that way.
Yeah, it was interesting.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Weddin (06:56):
Well
, and that's part of the dress
being a part of the weddingactually and then, when you come
, you'll see a dress on a hanger, or even on a mannequin.
It's not the dress until it'son you and it moves with you.
And the way the dress moves, that's one thing you see at the
fashion show too.
The dress is in motion, it's aperson yes, absolutely Climbing
(07:17):
into the car with it.
You'll realize that, oh, yes.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Drea (07:19):
If
you have a big ball gown style
wedding dress, you need toaccommodate for two people
inside that party bus orlimousine because it takes up
space.
But what are some of the thingsthat we'll see on the runway?
What styles in particular?
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedd (07:36):
You'll
see styles for all sizes, all
body types.
The Essence of Australia is themain line that we carry, and so
you'll see lots of those.
Some more simple dresses if youare planning a more simple
ceremony, the dress fits.
You can have a fancy ball gownat a rustic wedding.
(07:59):
That's perfectly fine, butsometimes people want the style
of the dress if it's a littlemore bohemian or if it's a
destination wedding.
So you'll find something foreveryone.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (08:10):
Well
, and the other thing too with
your wedding dress.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (08:13):
It
should be one of the first
things that you do, and it'salso one of the first things
that a bride wants to do also.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (08:19):
Yeah
, well, reason is because it
takes time for that custom dressto come in.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (08:25):
Yes
, I would say you should be a
year out, Can do six months.
That's kind of tight.
You do not want to be in aposition where you're worried
about the dress coming in ontime to do your alterations or
having to pay rush fees.
So if you could be a year out, that's really the ideal time.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (08:40):
Well
, the other reason for that is,
if you haven't picked your dress, it's hard to pick your bouquet
, because your bouquetcomplements the dress, and if
you have a dress that has a lotof detail in it and then you
have a bouquet that has a lot ofstructured, very structured,
(09:01):
but free flowy, it doesn't lookright, and so you really want to
make sure that you pick thedress before you go visit your
florist.

if you have the right florist,
to again see your vision of thisis the style of the dress.
This is how I want the tables, then my flowers to match that
and the rest of my bridal partyto put that all together.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (09:24):
The
other thing I've seen in the
past is where the bakery willactually take the design of the
wedding dress and they'llincorporate that into the design
of the cake.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (09:35):
It
looks so cool.
It does when the lace from yourgown is matched on the icing of
the cake.
It's amazing what they can do.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (09:42):
And
I've also had some clients that
after they have their dressaltered and their scraps from
the bottom of the dress, they'llput that as part of the wrap of
their bouquet.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Wedding (09:53):
So
there's a lot that you can oh,
there is and then incorporatethe mementos from Grandma maybe
in the bouquet or there's justso many ideas and things to do
and that's why it's fun to planthe wedding.
It's fun to take the time toput all those little thoughts
into it, to make it reallyspecial and personal.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Y (10:12):
Absolutely
.
And the other thing, too, isbring your camera to Wendy's
Wedding Expo, because, again, how these dresses move on the
runway is going to inspire youone way or the other as to do I
see myself in this dress?
Can I see myself dancing inthis dress?
Because really, that's what thedress is doing when it's on the
runway.
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Weddin (10:31):
It's
just, it's dancing Right, right
, it's the movement.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Y (10:35):
Absolutely
so well, wonderful, how can
people get tickets to Wendy'sWExpo W WExpo Expo E ?
Mardi Hull, Wendy's Weddin (10:39):

That's a discount, $12 at thedoor.

Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (10:51):
