Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's both this morning and we're joined it once again
by Matt Cocker, the COO from Hobart Airport. Thanks for
joining us, No, thanks very much, bo. Today we're talking
about some places that you can get to and Canberra
is one of those destinations that suddenly become far easier
for Tasmanians to be able to get to than it
has just about ever before.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah. Absolutely, you can actually get to Canberra from home
Art any day of the year. There's a few options
for you. Obviously, you can do the traditional thing and
fly either Virgin or Quaetus and go via Melbourne or Sydney,
check your bags in all the way and have a
little stop in Melbourne or Sydney and then fly on
too Canbra or We do have a direct service at
the moment and it has been flying for the last
couple of years through Link Airways Awesome. So that operates

(00:40):
six times a week. It has increased from four times
a week so back in April of this year they've
increased to six times a week. So it's a really
viable option. It's a great service.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
So realistically it is something that you could now look
at for going for the course of a long weekend
quite comfortably.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Absolutely. Now the flight time is around two hours, no stop.
They've tracked into Canberra and Link also partner with virgin
and so you can actually collect Velocity reward points on
their service.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah right, well that makes it very entertaining. There's been
a whole lot of upgrades that have been happening at
the airport. Is that going to affect the size of
aircraft that's coming through here too?

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Camebra Oh no, no mate. So the flights that operate
the domestic routes remain the same. The seven three seven
slash a three twenty one type aircraft. The Link Airways
flight is a little different. It's almost like flying your
own personal jet. You're just sharing it with thirty three
other people. Wow, so it's a little lub three point forty.
It's a turboprop aircraft. For the people interested in aviation,
it's really different experience and it might be a bit

(01:35):
of a bucket list item for people who want to
try flying on different types of aircraft.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah, most definitely. I always find it very fascinating when
you get on a different kind of aircraft. There might
be some rumors going around that there might be possibility
of people maybe getting a look at camera, the possibility
of flying free at some point. Any truth to those rumors, Well.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Look, I've been sworn to secrecy, but the team too
tell me they've were working really hard on a competition
which will be out in due course. It will have
the potential to include free returned airfares between Hobart and Camera.
But expect to hear more and you can actually check
out our airport Facebook hop about Airport Facebook and Instagram
page and in the coming weeks to find out more information.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
At the moment, obviously, what are people going to expect
at the airport if there's going to be upgrades going along,
should people be concerned about anything?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, you're right. Look, we are currently upgrading our terminal
and our airfield. There are two major projects immense next
month and will run concurrently. The airfield will be completed
in twelve months. The terminal will take us up a
little bit longer, about three years. It's about three hundred
and thirty million dollars in an investment, so there will be
some construction going on. What we would say to people
is just be mindful of that construction. Things may change

(02:45):
as you move to the airport from time to time.
You know, your roots from the car park to the
terminal and within the terminal might change. There's going to
be space for you to actually maneuver yourself. But it
would be timely to remind people that when they get
to the airport, get there a little bit early, find
yourself a car park, give yourself enough time to check
in and also go through security nice.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
So getting to the airport via car and parking there
is not going to be terribly affected at this stage.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
No, no, In fact, we've been working really hard in
a car park to ensure that there's a range of
options available for people. So heaps of opportunities for parking
your own private vehicle, and of course we've got Uber,
we've got taxis, skybus are operating, and of course mum
and dad or your aunt or uncle can drop you
off in a very convenient pickup drop off location. I
would remind people that if you're parking the long term

(03:31):
and the Savor car park, then your fift fifteen minutes
are free, so it's another option to take your loved
ones into the terminal, walk them across and get back
to your car within fifteen minutes, and that parking is
free and for those with disability permit can park up
to one hour free.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
You know awesome. Yeah, it's a very viable option to
be able to get in there and look at getting
yourself away to Canberra or whatnot for the weekend. You've
got one quick question. When it's called kiss and fly,
is the kiss mandatory?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Well, I wouldn't want one if you were dropping me
off for it.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
I don't blame you. We're gonna have a chat with
Jonathan Coebis who is from Visit Cambra, giving us an
idea on some of the cool things we can do.
This is your destination.
