Erin Gray (00:00):
Welcome back to Your Money, Your Rules podcast with
me, your host, Erin Gray.
I'm so glad you're here.
Today we're going to be talkingabout feeling grateful and
never satisfied.
I hear this from clients attimes where they ask, like,
well, how can I want morewithout feeling or with yeah,
without feeling ungrateful forwhat I already have?

(00:22):
And my answer is that gratitudeand desire, they are the same
coin.
They are partners.
So today we're going to betalking about why being grateful
and never satisfied isn't a badthing.
It isn't a problem.
It's actually part of the humanspirit.
It's what we came here to do.
And it is part of expansion.

(00:43):
So let's dive in.
So I want to clarify that whenI say let's feel grateful and
not satisfied, what I mean islet's enjoy all that we have
created and what God has blessedus with.
And then let's keep going anddesiring and expanding and
wanting more.
In the book, Working with theLaw, Raymond Hollowell, I will

(01:05):
put this in the show notes.
I think I talked about this onthe previous episode in a
different chapter.
But this chapter is in regardsto the law of supply.
And what he says is that man isnever satisfied.
This fact is deplored by many, but God did not intend that man
should be forever satisfied.
The law of his being isperpetual increase, meaning we

(01:27):
are always meant to expand andto want more and desire more,
more progress, more growth.
So when one good is realized, another desire for a greater
good will develop.
And when a higher state isreached, another and more
glorious state will unfold hisvision and urge him on and on.

(01:50):
Hence, the advancing life isthe true life, the life that God
intended man to live.
And I know that, at least forme, growing up, and even
sometimes when I talk to my dadnow, like he'll say, like, well,
how much is enough?
And my answer is always, it'salways enough and it's never

(02:12):
enough.
And what I mean by that isgrateful, but never satisfied,
right?
It's always enough, as in youhave to love where you are right
now from an abundant place,right?
Like what I think what mostpeople try to do is they try to
have more, uh, desire more, butfrom a place of lack.
Like it's not good where I am.
I want more, and then I'm gonnafeel better, versus loving

(02:36):
where you are right now, feelingso grateful for where you are
right now, and desiring andcan't like joyful anticipation
of where you are going.
Expanding, desiring, wantingmore is our natural state.
That that I always say this toclients is like the human spirit
came here to grow and expand, which is why I call BS on like

(03:02):
retiring at 65.
Like the human spirit wants tocreate.
And so that doesn't mean thatas we are wanting and desiring
more, that we are ungrateful forwhere we are.
Gratitude is like it says, like, I love what I have.
It's like in the feeling ofhaving, like, that's the way
gratitude feels in my body.

(03:23):
It's like you're just sograteful and in love with what
you have and where you are.
And desire is like, and I wouldlove and I'm ready for more.
And from that place ofsufficiency and wholeness and
love and joy and abundance, like, yes, I want more.
So I think women are taught sooften that wanting more is

(03:47):
greedy, or it's selfish, oryou're not being grateful, or
you're asking for too much.
And so we've been conditionedto shrink ourselves, to shrink
our desires, to try to, youknow, avoid feeling judgment or
rocking the boat or to not lookor to feel too much, right?
Like you're too much, or why doyou keep asking for more?

(04:08):
And it's a way that has thatwe've allowed ourselves to stay
small.
And we do this because we wantto please others.
And ultimately, what it comesback to is we don't want to feel
the discomfort.
There are feelings in our bodythat we are unwilling to feel as
because we aren't wanting ordesiring or actually going after

(04:29):
what we are actually wanting.
So, this false belief around, you know, if I want more, it
means I'm ungrateful.
I want you to just play withyou can feel deep, deep
gratitude for all of your incomeright now.
And you can want more income.
You can feel such immensegratitude for your spouse, and

(04:54):
you can want deeper and moremeaningful and more connection.
You can love your business andthink it's amazing, and you can
want more growth, right?
Like you can love the currenthome that you are currently in,
and you can desire and want abigger one.
You can love the life that youhave right now, everything about

(05:15):
it.
You can love it just right now, just as it is.
Like that is the definition Ithink of sufficiency and pure
just love, right?
Gratitude.
Gratitude to me is on the samefrequency of love.
And so when you feel just purelove for everything that you
have, that everything that Godhas blessed you in your life,
and you can have even a moreexpansive life, even a bigger

(05:40):
life.
Like that, that is, I want tonormalize that.
That is what we came here todo.
So wanting more doesn't meanthat you're ungrateful.
It means that you're alive.
It means that your soul is hereand to to expand and to grow.
You know, desire, I believe, isthe beginning of creation.

(06:01):
Like in order to createsomething, we have to desire and
want it first.
So desire is how your soulcommunicates with you.
It's desire is moving energy.
Like we, when we start feeling, and I'm not saying this is the
only reason why we start feelingdepressed, right?

(06:22):
But when we get to stagnation, when we stop dreaming, when we
stop desiring, this is where, and I don't necessarily mean the
literal depression, but likethe feeling, the depressed
feelings is because we aren'tdreaming and desiring.
So I want you to sit with and Iwant you to ponder what if I

(06:43):
were allowed to feel gratefulfor everything that I have and I
want and I desire more becauseI'm capable of that.
You are allowed to feelgrateful for what you have and
everything that you have andlove everything you have and
desire more because you arecapable of more.
These things can coexist at thesame time.

(07:04):
This is like the duality,right?
Like we get to hold severalbeliefs at the same time.
They don't have to be competingbeliefs.
Your nervous system can holdappreciation for what you
already have and can desire andhave ambition for more.
It can feel contentment forwhere you are and can and it can
also go towards expansion.

(07:24):
It can feel stable and enjoy.
Like I had a client say, youknow, like I just feel like I'm
like, she kind of gave the likeshowed her hand like steady,
right?
And I said, that's such abeautiful thing.
Like it's like that exhalebefore the next inhale, right?
Like we can be stable, we canjust be in and enjoy where we

(07:45):
are, and we can also, you know,be moving towards growth as
well.
So this idea that like neversatisfied is it's not a problem.
It's just what have we beentaught to believe that never
satisfied?
Because a lot of us have beentaught that when you're never
satisfied, it's coming from likea not enough, right?

(08:06):
That that is coming from lack.
We want things because we feellike where we are isn't enough.
That isn't what I'm saying.
I'm saying love where you areand desire more.
Think about nature, you know, atree doesn't stop.
I'm like turning and lookingout at my, you know, backyard.
Like that tree, it doesn't stopgrowing because it's satisfied.

(08:27):
Like nature, I think, is one ofour most beautiful and best
teachers because it's constantlyexpanding and growing.
The ocean, it doesn't stopmoving in and out, right?
Because it's grateful for thewaves.
You know, you don't stopbreathing because you're just so
grateful for your last breath.
So just think about how oftenare you stopping desires because

(08:53):
you're thinking that you shouldfeel grateful for what you
have?
And how can you start lookingat it as I can feel grateful and
I can also want and desire morefrom a place of complete
sufficiency and love and joy ofwhere I am and desiring more?
So we are meant for expansion.
We our desires are proof thatthat is what our soul came here

(09:15):
to do, is to expand.
And I always want to illuminatefor you is to always check back
in with your body and yournervous system, you know.
Are you desiring more becausesomeone else is saying that
that's what you should want, orthat's what you should do?
Or, you know, that's we justhave, I was just talking to my

(09:36):
husband at lunch.
It's like we have so muchbombardment, like consumption of
social media and YouTube andcommercials and just all the
things of people telling us whatwe should want.
That's not what I'm talkingabout here.
I'm talking about what are yourtrue heart's desires?
What do you want for yourself, for your life, for your

(09:57):
business, for your children, foryour spouse and your
relationships and yourfriendships, the impact that you
want to leave on the world.
That is what I'm asking you toponder of like, what do you want
and what feels good for you andloving where you are and then
desiring more?
And like I said, you can feelgrateful for everything that you

(10:18):
have and still desire and wantmore from a place of abundance
and love and sufficiency.
Okay, I will put this book inthe show notes.
Like I said, this book and theNeville Goddard book.
There's probably a couple more,but um, I know there are a
couple more that I have that Ilove that I read on a definitely
a weekly basis.
I kind of alternate them, but Iwill put his book in the show

(10:40):
notes.
That way you have it.
I highly recommend getting itand reading it.
And just ponder over the nextweek.
What is it that I love and I'mso grateful for right now in my
life?
And what would I love more of?
And this is also something thatI told a client as well.
It's like it's deeper.
It gets like you think thatthink back years ago where you

(11:02):
were just wanting to be whereyou are right now, you know,
that that gratitude that youwanted to feel where you feel
right now.
And then you're gonna just feelmore depths of gratitude, more
depths of love and joy andabundance and um fun and
experiences and play and all ofthose things.
So sit with this, ponder whereare you stopping yourself for

(11:28):
wanting more?
What are those beliefs that youmight have that are coming up
that are preventing you fromeven just writing them down in
your journal and then umquestion it and challenge it.
And you know, love where youare and yeah, write down some
things that you really wouldlove more of and work towards

(11:51):
that.
Okay, I will see you in thenext episode.
