Laura Nicole (00:02):
Welcome to your Virtual Assistant Coach, the
podcast for moms who want tomake money from home on their
own terms.
I'm your host, Laura Nicole, asuccessful, six-figure earning
VA and coach, who replaced mycollege professor salary in just
five months back in 2020, aftermy daughter was born, and I
have never looked back.
I'm here to help you build aprofitable, flexible VA business

(00:24):
that fits into your family'slives, so you no longer feel
like you're living just to work.
Let's dive in.
If you've been wondering, couldI really do this, could I
really become a virtualassistant, then this episode is
for you and I'm so glad you'rehere.
Something that you are going tohear me say really often and on
repeat is that when you become avirtual assistant, you are not

(00:48):
starting over.
You are simply switching lanes.
You don't suddenly have zeroexperience.
We are just taking yourexperience and your skill sets
and we're shifting them into anew path.
So today we are going to talkabout three things that I
constantly see in successful VAs, especially in moms like you,
and it's not because of yourresume, it's because of who you

(01:10):
are.
Sign number one that you wouldbe an amazing virtual assistant
is that you're the person thatpeople go to when they really
need to get things done.
You're the hey.
Can you help me with thisfriend?
You're the default planner.
You're the fixer At work and athome.
People trust you with thedetails because they know that

(01:32):
you are going to follow through,be thorough and do a fantastic,
freaking job.
At work, this might mean thatyou're the one who handles
schedules, or you're the one incharge of organizing all the
files and records and makingsure that everything has a home
and actually is where it belongs, so that when someone goes to
find it it's there.
Maybe you're the one inmeetings who's always taking

(01:53):
notes, or when a question comesup about a detail on a project,
everyone at the table's headsslowly turn and look at you
because they know you're goingto have the answer At home.
This might look like keepingyour entire family calendar
organized, remembering whenregistrations are for sports or
for summer camps, or when eachof your kids are due for their

(02:13):
six-month check-in at thedentist, keeping things on a
daily basis running smoothly, making sure you have the food
that you need in the house orthe treats for your kid's
birthday to take to class, andeven, on a bigger scale, doing
things like planning vacationsright.
We're in the midst of planninga vacation right now, and guess
who is the one who's researchingAirbnbs and hotels and booking

(02:34):
flights?
Spoiler alert, it's me.
It's mom At work.
Sure, you're gettingcompensated for these things,
but the way that you handle themfor your friend circle or your
neighborhood Facebook group oryour daughter's Girl Scout troop
, you just haven't been gettingpaid for that.
Yet If you have ever said, justgive it to me, I'll do it

(02:54):
faster, and you also know inyour brain that you're
definitely going to do it 10times better as well, then you
are already halfway there.
Sign number two that you willmake an amazing virtual
assistant is that you care aboutdoing things right.
You're the one who catches thetypos, who's organizing the
pantry so that your littles canactually find the snacks they're

(03:15):
looking for.
You color code the calendar soyou know which person has which
events on which days at just aglance.
You're triple checking forms, making sure registrations are
done, and you're consistentlypaying attention to the details,
whether it's in your mealplanning or in your group text
message, in the budgetspreadsheet that you create or

(03:38):
in the Amazon orders you put into get all of the supplies for
the neighborhood picnic thatattention to detail.
Business owners crave it.
They crave it.
It is not just like a cool momtrick, it's a literal client
magnet.
If you are someone who valuesefficiency and accuracy and

(03:59):
structure, even if it truly justfeels like second nature to you
, then virtual assistant workwill genuinely be such a natural
fit for you.
Va work definitely is not aboutperfection, but clients
absolutely love when someone issuper thoughtful, super thorough
and super proactive and you, myfriend, are all three Sign

(04:21):
number three that you will be afantastic virtual assistant is
that you are willing to learn afew new, simple tools and you're
definitely not afraid of Google.
I tell women all the time thatyou do not have to be a tech
wizard.
You do not have to beincredibly tech savvy to be
successful at this, but what youdo need is to feel comfortable

(04:43):
and proficient on your computer.
You need to feel comfortableand confident opening a Google
Doc or creating a new sheet, utilizing email, doing things
like moving them into folders oradding a document to an email
or adding a link to an email, maybe adding a new event onto a
digital calendar or creatingreally simple graphics or

(05:03):
newsletters inside of Canva.
And if you don't know how to dosomething on the computer,
being comfortable going toYouTube University and finding a
quick tutorial that you canwatch to figure it out.
What matters here is not thatyou have a gazillion skill sets
and you know all these differentsoftwares and programs.
What matters is that you havethe willingness to learn and

(05:26):
that you are willing and openand happy to be trained by your
clients to learn their systemsand their softwares.
Because, yes, you are anindependent contractor as a
virtual assistant, you're nottheir employee, but you're still
going to get trained by yourclients.
They are not going to justthrow you in the deep end and
tell you to figure it out right.

(05:47):
This business is their baby.
They're going to show you howthey want things done.
So you do not need to know itall up front, but you do need to
be coachable and able to learnquickly when they teach you, so
that they're not repeatedlyteaching you the same thing.
So when your brain startstrying to trick you into
thinking that you don't haveenough tech savvy, I need you to

(06:08):
remember that if you can followa YouTube tutorial or you can
explain new tech to your grandma, then you can learn the tools
you need to really start makingmoney from home.
There is one thing that I knowto be true about you, because
you are here and you arelistening and you are so
interested in this avenue ofcreating income for your family,
and that is that you lovehelping people.

(06:30):
You have a servant's heart.
You probably get so muchsatisfaction and fulfillment out
of making other people's liveseasier, but you've also probably
reached a point, especially atwork, where you're done doing it
on everyone else's terms.
You are always the one whoshows up and helps out and takes
care of things, but you've alsojust reached a point of burnout

(06:52):
from always putting othersfirst, with zero flexibility for
you.
I know that you want meaningfulwork.
You want to have thatfulfillment and be of service,
but you don't want to be doingit at the sacrifice of time with
your kids and time for yourself.
Being a VA will be such a goodtransition for you, because it

(07:12):
allows you to serve and supportother people and fill your cup
in that way, while also buildingan income for yourself that
protects your own peace and yourschedule too, so you don't have
to sacrifice your sanity oryour family time.
One last important thing that Iwant to note for you is that
clients are going to hire youfor who you are more than for

(07:35):
what you can actually do, andwhat I mean by that is that your
soft skills, your personalitytraits, your characteristics,
those intangibles, those are thethings that clients are really
putting a lot of their emphasison, much more than looking at a
list of computer programs.
You know, because you can learnthe tech, you can learn their

(07:55):
systems, they can teach youthose things, but they cannot
teach you the soft skills.
They are going to be soappreciative of your ability to
stay calm, to communicateclearly, to ask smart questions,
to care about your work, tocare about their business.
That is your superpower.
Just by being you, you arealready 70% of the way there to

(08:18):
becoming a wildly successful VA.
And when I say 70% of the way,I mean it.
It's not just some number Ipulled out of thin air because
it sounded good.
It's based on countlessconversations that I have had
with fellow business ownerswhich would be your client about
how much they emphasizepotential VAs hard and soft

(08:38):
skills when they are looking tobring somebody into their team.
Clients are not looking for justa task rabbit to come in and
knock things out.
They're looking for a missingpuzzle piece to their business,
and you just being you is whatmakes you the right puzzle piece
.
If any of these signs have madeyou go oh, that's me.

(08:59):
I feel like she's describing meThen I want you to hop down in
the show notes and grab my freecareer switch cheat sheet.
It's designed to help youconnect the dots between what
you already do on a daily, weekly, monthly basis, both at
work and at home, with whatservices clients are looking for
from a virtual assistant, because you don't need to become

(09:20):
someone else to get started.
You don't need to go do 18certifications in different
computer programs.
You don't need to learn justone more thing before you
finally take the first step tostart.
You just need to see yourskills and your experience and
your soft skills for what theyreally are superpowers.

(09:42):
Thanks for hanging out with metoday on your Virtual Assistant
Coach.

friend, your sister or even yourfavorite coworker, who you know
wants to start making aflexible income.
