Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, lovely listeners, and welcome to Zero
Waste Imperfectly.
I'm your host, sheila, and I amthe owner of Life Essentials
Refillery, a sustainable grocerystore in Tampa and in Wesley
Chapel.
So today I want to talk to youabout switching away from liquid
soaps, and the number onereason for switching away is the
reduced packaging.
If you go to a bar of soap, youhave lots of options to choose
from, but it is possible to findsoap that comes package-free,

(00:28):
and that's what we sell in ourstore.
So you just get the bar of soap, nothing else is attached, and
that's all you need to use.
Second, it takes a whole lotless water to make a bar of soap
instead of a liquid soap, andbar soap just lasts longer.
So I know with my three kidsyou give them liquid soap and
they're squirting it all overthe place and all of a sudden
the bottle is empty, like, oh mygoodness, where did it all go?
So another reason.
Now, if you, depending on whichbar of soap you choose, you can

(00:52):
find bars of soaps that are madewith natural ingredients.
So we sell soap here that'smade from coconut oil, lye and
water, but then you can get allkinds of different oils and
butters added, and you can alsochoose if you want fragrance or
essential oils, and so it'sentirely up to you how clean you
want your product to be.
But there are lots of optionsout there.
It's versatile.

(01:12):
Not only can you use your barof soap for washing your body,
you can use it for your handsand, depending on the type, we
even have some for dishes, and,of course, you can get bar soap
for your hair too.
So bar soap is travel friendly,so you don't need to worry about
bringing a squeeze bottle thatneeds to be in a Ziploc bag and
it leaking all over yoursuitcase.
It's just super easy and itsupports local businesses.

(01:34):
You will find, no matter whereyou are, a local soap maker, and
if, for some reason, you cannot, it's really easy to make it
home.
So switching to bar soap, itjust makes sense.
It may take you a while to getused to it and you may say, oh,
my goodness, it's gonna get allslimy in the shower, but there
are so many cool contraptionsnow to help avoid that, and
they're called soap savers, andthey work really well, whether

(01:54):
it's for your shampoo bar, yourregular bar soap in the kitchen
or in the bathroom, wherever, there are definitely options out
there to make sure you don'tget slimy soap, because that's
really gross.
But thanks for tuning in.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
