Morris Services Studios.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Well, good morning, it's Friday. It's five am. Here on
Houston's Morning News. I'm Jimmy Barrett. Among our top stories
as we get started this morning, Trump reacts to the
judge's ruling on birthright citizenship, an escape prisoner in Walder County.
And at five oh eight, a bill has been introduced
to amend the Constitution for third Trump term. Details in
the minutes ahead. You're in Houston's Morning News. Just a bill. First,

(00:40):
let's check out that morning drive. I think you're gonna
have a little easier today's guy bike. Oh, enough of.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
All that nonsense from yesterday, Jimmy Barrett. Let's see something
just popped up while we started talk on West Sloops
southbound at Iten. It's a little stalled right shoulder, it's
everybody's relaxed, nobody's sitting ice wave. It ran into the wall.
Just watch out for tow trot and just rest of
our waste. For now, I'm still gonna imagine there could
be just a little piece of ice.

Speaker 5 (01:04):
Here there, so everybody take it easy. I'm in the
Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
From our KTRH top tax Defenders twenty four hour Weather Center.
Plenty of sunshine today with the high temperature right about
fifty eight. We'll get you the complete forecast. Jeff Bars
inver Terry today at the weather Gennal. We'll talk to

Speaker 6 (01:28):
Morning, Jimmy, and good morning everybody, five oh one on
KTRH and our top story.

Speaker 7 (01:33):
They put it before a certain judge in Seattle. I guess, sir,
and there's our surprises with that judge.

Speaker 6 (01:42):
President Donald Trump's reaction after a federal judge in Seattle
blocked his executive order to end birthright citizenship. Despite that
the president has already delivered on his Day one promise
to secure the border.

Speaker 8 (01:56):
So much so that Beth Brellia listed nine ways for
the Federalist.

Speaker 9 (02:01):
This is definitely something voters put at the top of
their list of things they wanted Trump to address.

Speaker 8 (02:08):
And topping that list, declaring a national emergency at the
border direct.

Speaker 9 (02:13):
The Department of Defense to send members of the armed
forces to the border. There's a lot more military involvement
under Trump.

Speaker 8 (02:21):
Well, also ending catch and release. Jeff Biggs News Radio
seven forty kt H and here at home.

Speaker 6 (02:28):
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent a letter to Congress
demanding more than eleven point one billion dollars in reimbursement.
That is the amount of money that Texas taxpayer spent
to secure the border during Joe Biden's presidency. Five h
three on KTRH. Police in Waller County this morning or
searching for an escaped inmate. Salvador Sosto, got away last

(02:51):
night while undergoing testing at Belleville Hospital. He was last
seen wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans. We have
his picture KTRH dot com. Elsewhere, at least two suspects
are on the run, with another in the hospital after
a shooting an attempted armored truck robbery in West Houston
to armorcar.

Speaker 10 (03:10):
They're here to make a collection from the ATM, and
apparently the suspect must have known the time that we're
going to be here, so they ambushed him. And they
tried to take over the vehicle and went I actually
won the security guards with him and pepper spray, and
he returned fire and struck one of the suspects.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
One of those teenagers was taking to Bend Tom in
unknown condition. The female driver of the truck and the
male security guard were not hurt, and the Houston firefighter
suffers what is being called a non life threatening injury
after falling through a roof finding a fire at a
town home in the Galleria area. That home was being renovated.
Nobody else was home, nobody else was hurt. Five oh

(03:48):
four now President Trump ruffling feathers in Davos at the
World Economic Forum, calling out the banks for not doing
with business rather with conservatives, specifically Bank of America.

Speaker 11 (04:01):
I guarantee you there's an immediate reaction inside of Bank
of America. We better not screw this up. I don't
want my name in the headlines. I don't want Bank
of America getting called out by Trump. And it's a
message Trump will call out executives in situations like these.

Speaker 6 (04:16):
That is ktrh's Clay Travis. Meantime, Trump and Congress face
a tall task in cutting the ever growing federal deficit.

Speaker 12 (04:24):
The national debt sets at thirty six trillion dollars in counting.
Heritage Foundation economist E. J An Tony says much of
that exploded in just the last four years.

Speaker 13 (04:33):
If Biden had not gone on his spending spree, if
he had simply done nothing and allowed spending levels to
return to where they were before COVID, that's literally all
he had to do, we'd have.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
A balanced budget today, he believes.

Speaker 12 (04:44):
Before tackling entitlement programs like Social Security, Congress and the
Trump administration must reign in discretionary spending, which has grown
out of control. Corey Jolson, who's Radio seven forty ktrh.

Speaker 6 (04:55):
And on Main Street, boomers carry more cash than younger
generations than Some of that is just the year's long habit,
but there's probably also something else behind it.

Speaker 14 (05:04):
Some of that because old habits may die hard, but
also cash can be a good budgeting tool, and it
works even when technology doesn't. If you think of post
hurricane power outages, for example, have a little extra cash
in the wallet comes in handing bank rates.

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Greg McBride says, just because boomers are holding on to
cash doesn't mean it's all stuffed under the mattress five
oh five in Austin, New Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows, well,
he won't have Democrat chairs on House committees, but he
expands the power sharing arrangement with Democrats. All vice chairs
are required to be from the left with quote significant

(05:43):
power elsewhere. The initial proposals for the budget are out.
Some say they're lacking when it comes to property tax relief.

Speaker 15 (05:50):
The initial proposals only looking like six and a half
billion dollars in new property tax really or less that
far less than the surplus and has actually been made
available to the secher.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
Andrew McVeigh with Texans for Fiscal Responsibility says the state
has a near twenty four billion dollar budget surplus. All
of it or most of it should be going to
property tax relief. And speaking of property, some of Houston's
largest suburbs are losing residents at a steady rate.

Speaker 16 (06:18):
Sugarland is one of them, down about ten thousand residents
since twenty nineteen.

Speaker 13 (06:22):
Just demographically, it's an older crowd. Kids have graduated from
high school. You know, there's a lot of empty nesters.
At the time those were built, the lots were bigger.

Speaker 16 (06:32):
Texas based real estate expert Cliff Freeman says the high
housing prices are keeping people away too.

Speaker 13 (06:37):
We've seen such huge price appreciation in sugar Land. Specifically,
the houses are now literally just priced out of the
range for many people.

Speaker 16 (06:46):
As of December, the median home value in sugar Land
is four hundred and thirty seven thousand dollars Chart Lewis
News Radio seven forty KHA eight.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
Five oh seven. Now good news for Astros fans. According
to the Athletic, the Astros have resumed contract negotiations with
Alex Bregman. This is despite training for each parades from
the Cubs and signing Arizona free agent first baseman Christian Walker.
By the way, FanFest is tomorrow, and by this time
on Monday morning, we will know who is in the
Super Bowl. Washington and the Eagles play in the NFC

(07:16):
Title Games Sunday afternoon in Philly, while Buffalo visits Kansas
City in the AFC Championship game on Sunday night. Later
this morning, we'll tell you about Mayor Whitmeyer paying off
a bet and who he wants to get a share
of that booty. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News whether
in traffic station news radio seven Yes, I said, Booty

(07:38):
seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 17 (07:41):
Social media keeps me in the not good for you
news doesn't care what KTRH keeps you informed.

Speaker 18 (07:48):
There's a lot going on US Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Bie, Oh, wait is our time here in Houston's morning news. Evidently,
Representative Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles things that the third time
could be the charm for Donald Trump. He is already
introducing a constitutional amendment. They would amend the twenty second
Amendment or eliminate the twenty second Amendment to the US
Constitution that limits a president to no more than two terms.

(08:16):
In fact, here's exactly what they'd say. It's no person
shall be elected to the office of the president more
than twice, and no person who has held the office
of president or acted as president for more than two
years of a term. So, in other words, if you
are a president who inherits the office because the occupant
died in office or what have you, if you had

(08:37):
that for more than two years, then you cannot run
for a second term.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
So there you go.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
So why was that amendment put into place? It was
put into place after the administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt,
who served four terms, and Republicans I think led the
way on that one because they just, you know, they
couldn't they could beat FDR. They were retired of him
for president for so long. Nobody had ever done that before.

(09:07):
Everybody limited themselves to two terms. And FDR said, there's
no law says I can't run again, and he ran
again and he won. So they decided to make it
a constitutional amendment. Andy Ogles would like to eliminate that.
He would like to see Donald Trump eligible to run
for a third term. So here's the question. I know,
how about you support Trump most of you, So would

(09:30):
you like to see the amendment changed in order to
allow Donald Trump a third term as President of the
United States. I think that we leave things alone. I
think that, you know, the Republican Party has plenty of
time to groom JD. Vance or whomever to be a
potential Donald Trump's successor. The man is seventy eight years

(09:53):
he's seventy eight years ten months old. Now he's almost
seventy nine. He'd be like better part of eighty two
eighty three at the end of this term. You want
to maybe if you're going to amend it to allow
more than two terms, would you add an age qualifier?
No person above the age of eighty can run for
a re election. See now we're making it complicated, aren't we?

(10:15):
Five to ten? Time for traffic and whether together. I'm
with you, Yeah, tues enough right.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
You know, I think it just plays into the left's narrative. Oh,
he wants to be dictator for life, et cetera. You know,
we could do like from Reagan.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
To Bush, which was you know, Bush was Daddy. Bush
was Reagan's third term.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
Let's flip on here. Put your hardhats on, Jimmy. We've
got two twenty five outbound. That's some kind of pavement
repair right after Richie. That's about a two minute scunch
going that way. Stay the course, it's not worth moving
for Oh I ten.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
This is got a wreck on the East Freeway inbound
at Delldal that's two center lanes.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Everybody's okay. It's a truck carrying heavy equipment flatbed. We're
just find this. Little cars moved over, But everybody's fund
It's just fun to say Dal Dell on the radio.
Golf Freeway Kiyo from Lake City dude guy Mike.

Speaker 19 (11:02):
So far today it's been a better day for traffic, at.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
Least on my side. Boom all the.

Speaker 19 (11:07):
Way up forty five into Piers Elevated Sports It ten west, clear,
going about seventy miles an hour, trying to make sure
we're okay.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
No eye, all right, let's have an ice free day.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
We'll check ship channel bridges at the five to twenty
Skymike and the Generators Supercenter, dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
From r KTRH top tax Defenders twenty four hour Weather Center.
We've got Jeff Maar in today tonight for this last
night is the last night below freezing for a lot
of folks around here for a while. So that should
be the end of the ice problems, right Jeff.

Speaker 20 (11:38):
Yeah, indeed, Jimmy, it's cold this morning, but by the
weekend will be into the sixties, even into the mid
sixties come Sunday afternoon, and with some rain moving in.
So that's good news if you're hoping for a break
from this cold weather. Certainly cold as you head out
early today, but during the afternoon Sunday, after fifty eight,
the low tonight should have around forty under a clear
sky ahead of a cold front tomorrow, Clouds will increase
with the high sixty one. That front brings in shower

(12:00):
and storms tomorrow night with a low in the mid
fifties and another round of shower some thunders from Sunday,
so the rain may get heavier times with the high
on Sunday around sixty six degrees.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Right now, thirty one at your officials, Severe Weather Station.
News Radio seven forty k TRH.

Speaker 18 (12:13):
It's Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New South
Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barretts and the Houston
Morning News team all the info you need to take
on the day.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
We're gonna have some fun today. This is Friday, right, Yeah,
it's Friday, and we've had a rough week this week.
So here's what we're going to do. I'm gonna have
like a question of the day kind of thing based
on based on a news story that I'm gonna share
with you coming up next. Evidently Doge is going to
consider whether or not we should get rid of the
penny make it go away. It costs way more to

(12:48):
produce than it's worth, and it's another way they think
they can save a lot of money. So my question
new would be do we keep the penny or do
we let the penny go?

Speaker 5 (12:57):
More than that?

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Coming up next first though, traffic and weather together as
we check out the drive again with Skymike.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
All right, Jimmy, put on.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Your flame resistant coveralls. We are headed for the hard
work and east side. It's ien East Freeway. Which way
is it again? It's okay, it's westbound. Him bound at
Dell Dell. What it's a flatbed truck. Two center lines.
Everybody's okay. I think this little car cut him off
in there.

Speaker 21 (13:18):
We are.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
It'll take a while. It won't take any time to.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
Move the little car, and I don't think we'll need
a Supercise Ninja for the big truck. They're just sitting
there for some reason. And that is inbound. Not much
of a backup. But if you feel like doing two
twenty five, This is America Skymike on the Generator Supercenter,
dot Com, Traffic Center, rum r KTRH Top Tax Defenders,
twenty four hour Weather Center.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Lots of sun today looks like about fifty eight for
the hogh. Yes, fifty eight. That's getting better thirty seven tonight.
So you can put the plans back out today because
it will not go down below freezing over the course
of the next week. Cloudy sixty three tomorrow, thunderstorm's likely
potential for heavy rain sixty six on Sunday. We're in
the sixties and maybe even near seventy all next week.
Temperature currently thirty one at your official severe weather station.

(14:01):
News Radio seven forty KTRH. Time to check out some
of our top stories on a Friday morning. Here's Cliff,
Thank you, Jimmy.

Speaker 6 (14:07):
We are sponsored by DNM Auto Leasing. Trump tells the
World Economic Form he will drill, baby drill. Former Kamala
former Vice President Kamala Harris miss climate change. She's asking
Hillary Clinton for advice and guess what. She was also
spotted shopping in La using plastic.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Bags, Oh my goodness.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
And Houston Mayor John Whitmeyer. I promised this in the
five o'clock cast. He paid off his bet with the
mayor of Kansas City over last weekend's playoff game on
one condition.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
What was that?

Speaker 6 (14:38):
The refs get a share. Get the latest news anytime
at KTRH dot com. Our next updates at five thirty.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
You like free stuff. We all like free stuff.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Guess what Our iHeartRadio app is free, and free never
sounded so good?

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Are you a penny lover? For you a penny hater?
Five twenty three at a time. Here in Houston's Warning,
there's the Department of Government Efficiency is considering ending the penny. Well,
not that they have the power to do it. Congress
could do it. Even the Treasury Secretary. I don't know
how the incoming Treasury secretary feels about the penny, but
he could eliminate the penny as well. It costs way

(15:19):
more to produce than it's worth. So here is a
little Fox Business report on what they're considering doing. And
then I'll ask you if you would like to comment
on this.

Speaker 22 (15:29):
It costs more to make a penny than it's actually worth.
So help me out here. I have this jar full
of pennies. You can see right here. How many pennies
do you think are in this jar? Do you want
to take a guess?

Speaker 5 (15:41):
Well, I think there's three hundred in there.

Speaker 22 (15:43):
I'll think three to oh one. You're both wrong. It's
actually five hundred pennies.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
Oh kidding, So check my math.

Speaker 22 (15:48):
That's five dollars worth of pennies. But the cost to
make this jar by today's standards more than eighteen dollars,
because the cost of a penny today to make it
is about three and a half sense why is that.
It's because the cost of zinc, which is a primary
component of the penny, has just escalated so much so
last year Dog just pointing out that we spent one

(16:10):
hundred and nineteen million dollars on pennies, but we created
only roughly thirty two million dollars of value circulating into
the economy. So you might ask yourself, why are we
still making all of these pennies. The answer is because
some of our transactions in our economy are still based
in cash. Think about all the small businesses that are
still cashing out for that pack of gum that you want.
They need a penny to give you change.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
But now maybe you're like me and you.

Speaker 22 (16:33):
Just say, you know what, Madison, you keep that change.
I don't need that change jingling around in my pocket.
That's what Canada is recognizing. Canada years ago actually eliminated
the penny and they made all of their transactions actually
round up to the nearest nickel, so they could just
create some efficiency there. There's some controversy about that. Some
people say you're actually just costing the consumer more money

(16:53):
by doing that. We actually need our penny, So doges
starting this conversation around what do we do with the penny?
And the really interesting part is that Congress could actually
make a decision about what to do with the penny,
but the Treasury Secretary could also make a decision here.
So that's a good question for Scott Bassett.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Okay, so it costs three and a half cents to
make a penny, and a penny's worth one cent, so
clearly we're losing money on the proposition. But my concern
would be, and maybe your concern might be, all right,
how often is it going to be rounded up versus
are they going to round down as well? And where

(17:27):
do they cut it off as far as rounding up
or rounding down? I only heard her mentioned round up.
That wouldn't surprise me to hear that the well, we're
not going to round it down, we're around we're going
to round it up, which means that it would cost
us all more money to not get a penny and
change I can see. However, you know most of us
are kind of anti change these days. Do you ever

(17:49):
carry a change in your pocket? I mean, I think
just you know, the really old folks might still carry changes,
but I can't even remember the last time I pulled
out change for something, because even parking meters now, for example,
you can operate on a digital basis and use your
depit card or whatever. We become a society that rarely

(18:12):
uses the coins. So I guess my question would you
to you would be if you'd like to respond to it,
if you'd like to kind of shout out about it.
Here's what you do. You go to the iHeartRadio app KTRH,
click on the microphone. You'll have thirty seconds to give
us your opinion. Does the penny need to stay or
does the penny need to go? And why? Five twenty six.

(18:35):
Time to take a look at your money. Jeff Bellinger
is here. Good morning, Good morning, Jimmy. Happy Friday. There
was a late session rally on Wall Street yesterday. Major
ravererges posted gains ranging from two tenths percent to nine
tenths percent. The S and P five hundred closed above
sixty one hundred for the first time. Investors were encouraged
to hear President Trump say he would prefer not to

(18:57):
have to impose tariffs on China. Mister Trump also said
he intends to discuss interest rates with FED Chair Jerome
Powell when the time is right, and that he will
pressure Saudi Arabia and OPEK to lower the price of oil.
Stock market futures pointing a little bit lower. This morning,

I'm Jimmy Barrett. Among our top stories this half hour
more promises to Drill, Baby, Drill, the hag Seth confirmation
vote should happen today, and coming up at five thirty eight,
they're looking for taste testers for Costco's Super Bowl snacks.
Details in the minutes ahead. You're in Houston's Morning News.
Get your hand up, sky Mike, Yeah.

Speaker 24 (19:58):
Fig me.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
Let's go to the hard work in east Side one
more time. Here, I've got this it in East Free
what everybody's Okay, this accident is inbound at Daldale and
let's say, oh, there goes the fire department. Are they
about to clear it right now? I just have a
lane and a half kitten by on the inbound Is
it worth moving around for? I'm gonna say stay the
course this early. If it sits there for a while

(20:20):
to get worse, I got a problem on the west
side Highway six.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
Will zoom it at five point forty in the Generator
Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
From our KTRH Generator Supercenter, twenty four hour weather Center.
Lots of sun today with the high temperature about fifty eight.
We'll keep the temperatures well above freezing four nights for
the next week or so, and the temperatures warm up
so safe to put the plants back out again. Bright
down thirty one at your official severe weather station. News
Radio seven forty k TRH. It's time now for the news.

(20:48):
Here's Cliff Saunders.

Speaker 6 (20:49):
Thank you very much, Jimmy. It is five point thirty
one on KTRH. Our top story. The lifeblood of Texas.
The United States is an economic and energy powerhouse.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
Joe Biden forgot that.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Texas Congressman Pat fallon on Fox Business. Donald Trump told
the world yesterday it Davos that America will use its
natural resources oil futures this morning in that seventy five
dollars a barrel range, while gas prices across Houston checking
in at two dollars and sixty nine cents.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
Now.

Speaker 6 (21:19):
Hoping to assist the new Trump administration, the Institute for
Energy Research puts out its American Energy Blueprint. President Tom
Pile says, a big part of that is the Lone
Star State.

Speaker 25 (21:32):
Texas really should be a model for the United States,
both in terms of the manner which.

Speaker 5 (21:36):
It produces these resources, the speed.

Speaker 25 (21:38):
And time at which it interacts with government for permitting
and things like that. And that's really what we want
to try to get to with the American Energy Blueprint.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
He says. They also need to repeal Joe Biden's Green
New Deal what the Democrats called the Inflation Reduction Act,
and allow drilling in Alaska coming up on five point
thirty three. Another key part of the Trump agenda is
securing the order new borders are. Tom Homans says, if
sanctuary cities don't cooperate, there will be consequences.

Speaker 26 (22:06):
We got to remove federal funding from him, and why
are we give them SCAP funding and other law enforcement
funding not performing the law enforcement duties with ice. It's
about public safety.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
More than five hundred and thirty criminal illegal aliens have
already been arrested. That number includes sixteen members of the
violent Venezuelan gang trend Deiragua. The President issued more executive
orders yesterday, including one to declassify the assassination records of
John F. Kennedy Junior and doctor Martin Luther King Junior.

(22:37):
He also pardoned more than twenty pro life activists thrown
in jail by the Biden DOJ on the way. The
National March for Life is later today in Washington. The
Texas Rally for Life in Austin is scheduled for tomorrow.
More of Trump's team is being put into place. John
Ratcliffe confirmed his CIA director, sworn in by Vice P A.

Speaker 27 (23:00):
Jd.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
Vance.

Speaker 28 (23:01):
John is a great patriot, a guy that has the
trust of the President, and I think really believes deeply
in the mission, first of all, of keeping Americans safe,
but also doing it in a way that ensures that
the American people have confidence in our national intelligence services.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Incoming FBI Director Cash. Patel will have his confirmation hearing
in the Senate next week. Petexas nomination as Defense Secretary
clears a major hurdle in the Senate yesterday. It does
advance to a final confirmation vote, which is likely to
take place today. It's now five point thirty four on
KTRH and it's certainly a quieter morning on the roads

(23:38):
than it was yesterday, when we had more than three
dozen accidents due to icing impacting all of the major highways.
That's more than double what we normally see at any
time through morning drive.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Yesterday, we had thirty to thirty five plus major incidents
on the major roadways. There was no end of town
that was immune, and there were a lot of major
problems and some pretty serious things that happened yesterday.

Speaker 6 (24:01):
Our own sky Mike says listeners were well informed, but
that many drivers did not heed the warnings about icy roads.
Well with your kids getting ready for school this morning,
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is looking to extend the state's
DEI education ban to K through twelve schools.

Speaker 29 (24:18):
The momentum is on his side, especially after Trump banned
DEI practices this week.

Speaker 30 (24:23):
They're divisive, These programs have not worked, they are a
big risk, and it's time for the state to get
rid of them.

Speaker 29 (24:30):
Education expert Sherry Sylvester says movement on this should happen
this session, and when it comes down to it, this
is also what the citizens want.

Speaker 30 (24:37):
Over seventy percent of Texans, including Democrats, for Republicans and
Black Texans Hispanic Texans do not want these programs in
our public schools and universities.

Speaker 29 (24:46):
She says, this is a no brainer to protect our
kids and cut down costs. Andrey Perard News Radio seven
forty KTRH.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
Now, let's talk about what your kids are actually learning
and whether or not they're doing their own work. According
to a Pew re Search study, twenty six percent of
students between the ages of thirteen and seventeen use chat
GPT for their assignments. Unbelievably, teachers are okay with this.

Speaker 31 (25:12):
What's exciting about AI, especially with these teacher tools we're
now able to give, is yes, it is one more
thing for a teacher to learn, but we can immediately
show them a productivity improvement's time savings. We're working with
school districts that are already saying it's saving their teachers
five to ten hours a week.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Yeah, that's Salkan, the CEO of something called the con Academy,
who says that chat GPT should be embraced by students
and teachers. Kids are going to use it to do
the work for them. As for higher education, a bill
is filed in the Texas House that would prevent public
colleges in Texas from giving tenure to their liberal professors.

Speaker 32 (25:46):
Tenure was supposed to help promote academic freedom, but it's
done the opposite.

Speaker 21 (25:50):
NaN's traditional tenure, sixty two percent of students self censor
because there is no longer robust discussion of controversial issues.

Speaker 32 (25:59):
Tom Linz with the Texas Public Policy Foundation says tenured
professors need more accountability.

Speaker 21 (26:04):
We're human beings. We require and setive. We do better
when we're rewarded for it, and we get straight when
we're published for not doing the job.

Speaker 32 (26:12):
He says a better system would be giving professors three
and then five year contracts with strict performance reviews. Ethan
Buchanan News Radio seven forty krs.

Speaker 6 (26:20):

Speaker 33 (26:32):
Well for sure have a similar ticketing and gift shop
that San Jacino had, and ultimately enough room for a museum.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
Battleship Texas Foundation CEO Tony Gregory says they are still
raising money and working on the restoration. They're hoping to
be ready for visitors in October, and the Rockets play
the Cabs in Cleveland tomorrow, while the Astros hold FanFest

Speaker 18 (27:06):
Your best ways are round Houston next on the ten

Speaker 3 (27:14):
By thirty our time here in Houston's morning. He is right,
any all shop at Costco or Sam's Club or BJ's
those are the big three, right as far as the
warehouse clubs, Yeah, well Sam's Club is Walmart and steroids,
Well it's no, it is, and it's it's it's. Sam's
Club is Walmart with giant sized items. You know that
that's when you when you want the giant seventy two

(27:38):
count of mega rolled toilet paper. That's that's where you go.
You go to the Warehouse Club, and of course they
have big servings of just about everything. When you want
a ten pound bag of Swedish meatballs, that's when you
go to the Warehouse Club. Finance Buzz evidently is doing
a little thing. It just it's just for Costco though,

(28:00):
but you I guess you don't have to be a
Costco member in order to participate in this. They would
like you to go there and they would like you
to buy a whole bunch of snacks, you know, like
super Bowl snacks, and they would like you to sample
the snacks and then report back to them on which
ones were the best, you know, things like pizza bagels
and pigs in a blanket and buffalo chicken dip or

(28:21):
jalapeno peppers or whatever it is you like, you know, wings,
whatever it is you like for your next you know,
viewing party, which for a lot of people will be
the Super Bowl. If they select you at finance Buzz,
they will pay you one thousand dollars plus they'll cover
the cost of the party food hole with a five
hundred dollars Costco gift card. So I assume what you
What you do is you go you you go to Costco,

(28:44):
you buy a bunch of stuff, you taste it, and
any report back to finance buzz and what you thought
the best deals were and what you thought tasted the
best finance buzz dot com if you want to find
out more about it. I think they're they're taking applications
until February third. I want to say, all right, finance

Speaker 5 (29:05):
To do's got an iHeartRadio thing?

Speaker 24 (29:07):
Right?

Speaker 4 (29:07):
No, it's not, which means which means Jimmy, that you
and me and we could are eligible.

Speaker 8 (29:12):
Right?

Speaker 5 (29:12):
What's your favorite Super Bowl snap? By the way, I
think pigs in a blanket sounds really good.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
But you know I wouldn't mind switching over to some
Mexican stuff too. All right, speaking of let's head to
the hard work in east Side, and you got this
wreck here East Freeway inbound. They did bring an ambulance
at Delldale, which is okay to say on the radio, Jeff, inbound,
that is one, two, three right lanes.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
I'm still gonna advise you to stay.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
The course for now. I feel like they're going to
move that truck. It's a flatbed and he's he's not
particularly damaged.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
I think they'll move him over to the side.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
About a two or three minute smash from Sheldon Road
on the inbound west side tip line dude.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Pays guy Mike.

Speaker 21 (29:50):
Highway six South at Richmond.

Speaker 33 (29:52):
Something bad happened in that intersection.

Speaker 21 (29:54):
There's a whole bunch of glass and cool and on
the road.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
I wonder if someone hitting ran because I don't see
wreck there. I don't have any indication.

Speaker 5 (30:02):
And let's check the northwest side high.

Speaker 24 (30:04):
Good morning, Mike, dude.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
Basically two ninety the that woman has on the items. Okay,
the ice is gone.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
He's trying to tell me the ice has gone here

Jeff bars in for Terry's. She's taking the day off
after the week we've had weatherwise. I don't blame her.
But the weather's getting a lot better now, isn't it.

Speaker 20 (30:36):
Yeah, certainly is dry and certainly some warmer temperatures as
we headed to the upcoming week, and we'll be into the
mid sixties on Sunday, and that's certainly a little bit
closer to average before us by late January standards. In
the meantime, cold as you make your way out to
start off this morning. We'll see some sun this afternoon
and hit a high in the middle upper fifties down
to forty with a clear sky overnight. Then tomorrow warmer
with increasing clouds and a high of sixty one and

(30:57):
approaching front brings in scattered showers and thunderstores to tomorrow
night with a low in the mid fifties, and they'll
be showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. Some of the rain
may get heavy times to wrap up the weekend with
a hein on your sixty six.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Temper Jerre remains thirty one at your official severe weather station,

Speaker 5 (31:13):
What you need to know for the day ahead.

Speaker 18 (31:16):
This is Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New
South Windows Solutions.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
So I'm kind of introducing something new today. I've been
been thinking about this for a long time. I've been
wanting to do it for a while. I don't know
what took me so long, But today I think I
got the perfect question to give your reaction to and
see what you think. And the beauty of doing it
the way we're going to do it is you don't
have to make a phone call and wait on hold
to express your opinion, or maybe not get on the

(31:41):
air at all. All you have to do is use
the iHeartRadio app. If you don't have it, it's really
easy to download. It's absolutely free. You download the app,
you go to KTRH, you look for the microphone button,
you click on the microphone button. You have thirty seconds
to state your opinion on whatever it is that we're
asking about. And today I want to ask you about

(32:02):
the penny because the Department of Government Efficiency is bringing
back the debate about whether or not we should get
rid of the penny. The penny costs two and a
half three times as much actually three times as much
to produce as it's worth. So do you think it's
time to get rid of the penny or do we
need to keep the penny? Are you worried that eliminating

(32:23):
the penny is just step one towards an all digital
currency or are you worried about retailers one to screwing
you over and they'll round everything up and they won't
round anything down. This is only for cash transactions, mind you.
I mean, how many of us pay cash for things anymore?
Not very often, right, So I want to know what
you think again. Go to the iHeart Radio app KTRH
CLOK on the microphone. You get thirty seconds to state

(32:46):
your opinion, five fifty time for traffic and whether together forget.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
It's free, absolutely free sky the iHeartRadio app. And we
have people that you know you never have to miss
us when you go out of town, Like Jack from Connecticut.
He's listening on the free iHeartRadio app. Right now, East
Freeway inbound. Put your hard hats on Dell, Dell. That's
wreck one, two three, right lanes blocked and we're backed
up from Sheldon Road. I'm still saying stay the course.
I think once they get that car out of there,

(33:10):
ninjas are hooked up. I think that'll be out of
the way. Two ninety Mike Magnolia.

Speaker 19 (33:16):
From ninety nine to the West Mountain. I didn't see Lizo,
but I didn't see the ice either.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
I think she danced on a tanker one time on
two ninety. It's never anybody you'd want to see Jimmy
like from somebody from Sales Inbound two nineties. Good Skymike
on the Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (33:32):

Lots of sun today, fifty eight Tonight, we'll stay above
freezing low thirty seven Tomorrow claude with a high sixty three,
thunderstorms likely. There's a potential for some heavy rain Sunday
sixty six sixties and near seventy all next week. Tempature
right now currently is thirty thirty. Yep, we're down to

(33:52):

Friday morning stories.

Thank you, Jimmy. We're sponsored by Morrow Mechanical. The obstruction

I live in Pasadena, Sharptown, Southwest.

Speaker 18 (34:36):
Next on the ten time saving traffic con seven forty ktrsent, well.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
That would make you a United States citizen, now, wouldn't it?
Five point fifty two is our time here in Houston's
morning news. You know, the debate is raging over whether
or not we need to change the Constitution or if
we just need a reinterpretation of the fourteenth Amendment of
the const Institution with which grants birthright citizenship. The desire

(35:05):
here is to make it no longer a situation where
an illegal living in this country gives birth to a
child and my child automatically as a United States citizen.
That that was never the intent of the fourteenth Amendment.
But that's how it's been interpreted over and over and
over and over again. So there's a bill getting introduced
in Congress about it by Texas Congressman Brian Babin, who

(35:26):
we've had on our program before. By the way, a
second coming from now, a second to the amendment, I agree,
coming from Texas Representative Randy Weber. Here he is explaining
why he supports this bill. I want to thank you.

Speaker 35 (35:40):
All again for bringing this sub doctor bad and this
Birthright Citizenship Act.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
Let me tell you something.

Speaker 35 (35:46):
The radical left is going to lose their friggin minds
over this.

Speaker 5 (35:51):
I can't wait for it.

Speaker 35 (35:52):
They're spending the same tired narrative calling President Trump and
Republicans heart listen, cruel and in you may to address
the issue of birthright citizenship, and now twenty two states
are suing to block Republicans from overturning this deeply flawed policy.
Let me tell you the policy is so deeply flawed.

(36:14):
If you've read the fourteenth Amendment, if you remember the
time frame that it took place in, I'll give you
all a math quiz fourteenth Amendment. Can any of y'all
tell me which amendment preceded the fourteenth Amendment?

Speaker 5 (36:26):
Any math majors out there?

Speaker 35 (36:27):
Of course, the thirteenth Amendment, which abolished slavery. The intent
of our founders and our members of Congress back then
was to make sure that African Americans got a place
in America. Now, I've talked to judges, some of them
in Congresses, so well, no birthright citizen is citizenship is
part of the fourteenth Amendment. I said, look, just because

(36:51):
some court has interpreted it, that.

Speaker 5 (36:54):
Doesn't make it right. Doesn't make it law. The courts
and the judges get it wrong. Supreme Court gets it
wrong all the time.

Speaker 35 (37:02):
They actually ruled that African Americans could be counter as
three fifths of a citizenship for census records.

Speaker 24 (37:08):
Right.

Speaker 35 (37:08):
They also rule that Negroes can use separate, equal bathrooms.
I think it was Brown versus Board of Education.

Speaker 5 (37:16):
And then they ruled in Roe v.

Speaker 35 (37:17):
Wade in nineteen seventy three it's okay to kill unborn children.
The courts don't always get it right. Here's the truth.
The Fourteenth Amendment was never intended to serve as a
blank check for illegal immigration.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
There you go, so there's support there. I personally, I
don't think if I were to bet money on it,
even at the level of the United States Supreme Court,
I think the Trump administration loses this bottle.

Speaker 5 (37:45):
I really do.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
I think that they are so used to interpreting the
Fourteenth Amendment as including anybody who's born in this country
pretty much, I don't see them overturning and changing it.
I'm not saying they shouldn't change it. I'm saying I
don't think that that's what they're going to end up doing.
We'll see five point fifty six. Now you're on News

Looks like it. In East Trinity River Bridge.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
Look Out, Captain Troy says we've got a crane on

we're going outbound? Okay, eastbound tour downa week. We'll zoom

(39:39):
Here's Cliff Sanders.

Speaker 6 (39:40):
Thank you, Jimmy. Good morning everyone. It is six oh
one on KTRH. We are sponsored by Isopharmic LLC. Our
top story. A federal judge in Seattle blocks President Trump's
executive order to end birthright citizenship, something Trump wasn't surprised
at because the legal fight is far from over.

Speaker 36 (40:00):
They want to get into the courts in order to
eventually make it to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court can,
of course change the interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Speaker 6 (40:11):
Box legal analyst Jonathan Turley. There, Trump wasted no time though,
in delivering on his big promise to secure the border.
In fact, he's already done so in nine ways, according
to the Federalists Beth Brellia, including restoring the death penalty
for illegals who commit certain crimes.

Speaker 9 (40:29):
He's going to say that if you're in this country
illegally and you kill certain law enforcement officers or.

Speaker 6 (40:35):
The certain crimes that you commit while you're here.

Speaker 9 (40:38):
Illegally, that's going to be death penalty. So that's another deterrent.

Speaker 6 (40:42):
And in another move that Joe Biden didn't do, Trump
declared the cartels aign terrorist organizations. But there is also
the lasting damage of Joe Biden's open borders. Texas Governor
Greg Abbott sends a letter to Congress demanding more than
eleven point one billion dollars. Is this reimbursement for what
this state's taxpayers shelled out to secure the border between

(41:05):
twenty twenty one and Monday. It's now six h three
on KTRHD. Belleville Police Department continues to search for an
escaped inmate, Salvador Ssato got away last night during the
middle of medical testing. Apparently he was last seeing in
blue jeans and an orange shirt. We've got his picture
at KTRH dot com. And Houston Police continue their man

(41:29):
hunt for the bad guys after an attempted armored truck
robbery on the West Side.

Speaker 5 (41:34):
Do we know how many suspects are at large?

Speaker 10 (41:36):
And we're still collecting the video evidence at this time
and trying to ascertain the exact number of the suspects,
but it is more than more than two.

Speaker 6 (41:43):
Yeah, at least two suspects are on the run, with
another in the hospital. The driver of the armored trunk
and the mail security guard were not hurt. And a
Uston firefinder continues to recover after suffering non life threatening
injuries last night falling through a roof in the Galleria
area during our town home fire. Nobody was home, so

(42:03):
there were no other injuries. Six oh four President Trump
delivering a strong message of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The US is once again open for business, but you're
going to play by our rules.

Speaker 37 (42:17):
President Trump basis said, get on the ship or get off, folks,
because we are changing the order of which we're doing business.
And if you want to do business with America, you
better move here and make it, because if you don't
make it in America, we're going to tax the hell
out of you.

Speaker 6 (42:31):
Alabama Senator Tommy Tumberville on Fox Trump and Congressional Republicans
are now faced with addressing the thirty six trillion dollar
national debt that Joe Biden left him a big portion
of that entitlement programs like Social Security, But Heritage Foundation
economist dj Antni says discretionary spending is equally to blame.

Speaker 13 (42:52):
The so called Infrastructure Bill, the American Rescue Plan, the
Inflation Reduction Act, and all kinds of other bills that
were given to see or misleading names. All of that
amounted to literally trillions upon trillions of dollars.

Speaker 21 (43:05):
That is what has driven the deaf city.

Speaker 6 (43:06):
And he also says that returning to pre COVID spending
levels would actually balance the federal budget. On main street,
boomers still tend to carry cash, as opposed to gen Z.
Bankert's financial analyst Greg McBride says, there's a reason why
a lot of.

Speaker 14 (43:22):
Younger adults grew up in an era where you didn't
even have to carry cash. If any, aspects of life
have moved cashless, but that's unique to the younger generations.
Those that are a little bit older remember well the
days where you had to carry cash.

Speaker 6 (43:36):
According to the latest numbers from Empower, fifty two percent
said that quote cash is king. About half said they
felt safer with cash over other investments. At six oh
five in Austin, meet the new Speaker same as the
old Speaker. While Dustin Burrows won't allow House committee chairs
from the other side of the aisle, he did push

(43:57):
through House rules stating that all committee vice chairs had
to be Democrats. Both the House and Senate put out
their budget proposals. So what will it do to lower
your property taxes?

Speaker 32 (44:09):
According to the current proposals, just six point five billion
would go towards new tax relief.

Speaker 15 (44:14):
It's not nearly enough of the relief that Texas families
and businesses across the state need. The relief that they
provided last session wasn't nearly enough.

Speaker 32 (44:23):
Andrew McVeigh with Texans for Fiscal Responsibility says we should
use our entire twenty three point seven billion dollar surplus
to quote compress rates.

Speaker 15 (44:31):
Compressing rate provides relief across the entire economy all property owners,
so business owners and renters see the relief as well.

Speaker 32 (44:38):
Mcphaigh says that would go a lot farther than just
increasing the homestead exemption. Ethan Buchannan News Radio seven.

Speaker 6 (44:44):
Forty KRH and there's an interesting population trend that's playing out.
Our larger suburbs like sugar Land have apparently lost thousands
of residents over the last five years.

Speaker 13 (44:55):
People don't have the budget in the growth segments right
now to move out there again. Plus the new construction
and sugar Land is almost built out. I mean it's mature.
There's not a whole lot of the land to build
houses on. In real estate, Sugarland real.

Speaker 6 (45:09):
Estate analyst Cliff Freeman says the older population and high
housing prices in that area are preventing new buyers from moving.
Six oh seven. The Astros and a reunion with Alex Bregman.
It's reportedly possible after the two sides are once again
apparently talking. This is after the Astros already traded for
Chicago's Ezoch Paratus, and they signed free agent first baseman

(45:32):
Christian Walker from Arizona. And in football, it's championship weekend.
No Texans sorry, but Washington is visiting Philadelphia in the
NFC title game, followed by the AFC Championship Sunday night
between the Buffalo Bills in Kansas City. Of course, that
game is in KC. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's news,
weather and traffic station News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 5 (45:56):
Be Informed, be on time.

Speaker 18 (46:00):
Houston's Morning News continues with Jimmy Parrett.

Speaker 3 (46:04):
Yeah, no more lucky pennies, if you give rid of
the penny, right, no more? By the way, do you
do you remember what it is? Don't pick up a
penny if it's is it when it's heads down or
face up? I can never remember that one. You're not
supposed to pick up a penny. I think if it's
face down, you're not supposed to pick it up anyway.
If there's noboard pennies, I guess then again, I probably

(46:26):
have enough pennies in my coin jar at home to
last me for several lifetimes. So it's not like it's
not like they're immediately going to go out of circulation.
We would just stop making pennies. So we're asking that
kind of the question to day at the iHeartRadio app KTRH.
Click on the microphone, tell us your opinion, and some
of you are doing just that speaking of pennies.

Speaker 38 (46:48):
In addition to individual consumers who are out shopping, what
about multi million dollar corporations who are sending invoices back
and forth every day or every week? Are we all
going to round to the nearest nickel or to the
nearest dime? You know, I send out I work for
a company in the billing department. I send out millions
of dollars worth of invoices every week. If we're going

(47:11):
to start rounding, that's going to seriously change the bottom
line for our business.

Speaker 5 (47:17):
We need our pennies. How else are we supposed to
play a little did.

Speaker 6 (47:22):
Also, why don't they just use a cheaper material?

Speaker 3 (47:25):
Well, there's not a lot of cheaper material left. You
Remember when pennies used to be made with copper. Imagine
how much it would cost to make a penny with copper.
Now they make it a zinc, which is one of
the cheaper things that you can do, and it still
costs three and a half cents for any penny they
make as far as the invoices go. Hey, I think
this would only pertain to cash money, not to digital money.

(47:48):
So when you've got digital money exchanging hands, like your
payroll check going into your account, the penny would still
be in there. It's just in the cash form the
penny would go away six ten. Hey, thanks for the penning.
You go to iHeart Radio app KTRH. Click on the microphone.
Feel free to leave your name and where you're calling
from too. By the way, time for traffic and whether together.

Speaker 4 (48:08):
You know what, Jimmy, what people get the iHeart Radio App.
They can listen to my eighties shows on the weekends
around America.

Speaker 5 (48:13):
Nice cross plug Sky much Boom. iHeart Radio App. It's free.
All right, Let's go to the hard work and east.

Speaker 4 (48:18):
Put our hard hats on and check ien inbound att Deldell.
That's wreck and two one two three right lanes here,
flatbed ambalances left, minor or small ninjas gone. I think

Time to check in with Jeff Mark and for Terry
Today and find out some good news about sunshine at
least for today, and some warmer temperatures.

Speaker 20 (49:34):
Yeah sixties, as we headed into the weekend. We could
certainly look forward to that after this recent cold snap.
It's certainly going to be cold if you are about
to head out this morning, but during the afternoon feels
a little bit better with a sunny sky and a
high in the mid upper fifties. And then overnight the
lowell hover close to forty un are a clear sky.
Our next front approach is during the weekend that's going
to bring in the cloud cover tomorrow as we hit
a high in the low sixties. That front will bring

(49:54):
in scattered showers and thunderstorm Saturday night with a low
dropping of fifty six. It will be a wedd end
of the weekend Sunday with showers and storms likely. Some
of the rey may get heavy with the high closest
sixty six degrees.

Speaker 3 (50:03):
Right now, we're up one thirty one at your official
severe weather station, News Radio seven forty k TRH six
nineteen our time here in Houston's morning news. All right,
so so far everybody wants to keep the penny Dosh
is considering eliminating the penny because of the expense. It
costs three times to make it what it's worth, and
business would just round things up or round things down.

(50:24):
At least it relates to cash money, not digital, but
cash money. And so far everybody's in support of the penny.
Here's another listener.

Speaker 39 (50:32):
Yeah, Jimmy, this is Patrick in Spring. I was I
was wanting to comment on the penny question. And the
thing is is I like cash. I want to use cash,
but I don't even use pennies. Most of the time
I'm pumping quarters. So anyway, that's my thought for the day.

Speaker 5 (50:51):
Thanks.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
In other words, a penny doesn't buy what can he
buy with a penny? It's just changed that ends up
in a charge. I guess he wouldn't miss the penny
at all. Leave us your thoughts, katrh doc not the website,

eighth down to thirty seven tonight, so safely above freezing
cloudy's sixty three tomorrow thunderstorms likely potential for some heavy
rain on Sunday with the high sixty six. Temperature currently
is thirty one at your official severe weather station. News
Radio seven forty KTRH. We're gonna tackle what to do

(52:25):
with the state of Texas budget surplus with vans again next,
but first let's get you up to day and on
some of our top stories with Cliff.

Speaker 6 (52:32):
Thank you very much, Jimmy. We are sponsored Mike dn

Speaker 5 (53:04):
From start to finish.

Speaker 18 (53:06):
We'll be okay here twenty twenty five, here right here.

Speaker 5 (53:10):
On news Radio seven k t RH.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
Yeah, we got a little cash surplus in the state
of Texas. Right now, we're flushed with cash. Doctor Vance
again the economist that again, economic consulting joins us. Of course,
it's always I know, the state has fun trying to
figure this out. Who gets money, who, how should we
spend the money? No, nobody ever just says give it
all back. And I never I guess I understood understand

(53:38):
to a certain extent why government is that way Vans.
But you know when you have when you pay too
much in property taxes to your escrow account at the bank,
they send the money back. You pay too much. Here,
here's your money back. Why can't we do that as
a state?

Speaker 5 (53:54):
Yeah, Jimmy, you're right.

Speaker 40 (53:55):
I mean, there's twenty four billion dollars in surplus, meaning
excess money. It's being collected from us in taxes, from
taxes and for sales taxes, franchise taxes, and a whole
bunch of other things. And we also have twenty eight
billion dollars.

Speaker 3 (54:10):
He disappeared. You disappeared there for a second, Go ahead, bance,
I hear you again. Nope, I guess he's in a
bad cell. Of course, the worst sell will be HI
would be in the County jail, but in a bad cell.
Can you hear me? Vance yepe, I can't hear him.
Try to reconnect real quick, Marco, see if we can

(54:31):
get him back up the line.

Speaker 40 (54:32):
Jimmy, can you hear me?

Speaker 5 (54:33):
Nope? Now I can hear you. Now I can hear you.

Speaker 40 (54:35):
Okay, great, Yeah, no, I was just saying that. But
we have twenty four billion dollars in surplus, and there's
twenty eight billion dollars in the Rainy Day Fund too,
So there's fifty two billion dollars total that's on the sidelines.
It should all be returned to us in some way.
I think property tax relief would be the best way
to go, but ultimately should be back in our pockets.

Speaker 3 (54:53):
Yeah, I know, property tax relief is certainly something that
is on the table. But they're not going to spend
it all on property tax relief for.

Speaker 5 (54:58):
Are they No? No, oh they're not.

Speaker 40 (55:00):
There's already talk about putting five billion more dollars into
the Texas Energy Fund, two and a half billion dollars
to the Texas Water Fund. There's five hundred million dollars
talked about giving to the film incentives to get more.
I guess movies that you made in Texas and a
wholech of other things. So yeah, they're already talking about
spending most of it instead of giving.

Speaker 5 (55:20):
It back to taxpayers.

Speaker 40 (55:21):
There's about three and a half to the six billion
dollars that it was going to be given in property
tax relief that are in these budgets, so that means
only about a quarter would go back to taxpayers. Their
rests would go for spending.

Speaker 3 (55:33):
So how do we end up with this big of
a surplus. By the way, the Rainy Day Fund, I
have no problem with adding bunning into Rainy Day Fund
because someday we're going to need that for you know,
if the economy gets real bad. But but what you know,
what led to such a massive surplus, What are we doing?

Speaker 5 (55:47):
Right?

Speaker 40 (55:49):
Well, the economy's growing and we have people that are
moving here every day. About eleven hundred people are moving
to Texas on average every day. And so if you
have more people, you have a growing economy, you're going
to get more in sales taxes, and so sales taxes
brings in about you know, it's almost fifty.

Speaker 5 (56:04):
Five percent of our overall tax.

Speaker 40 (56:06):
Revenue that comes in. So as the economy grows, tax
revenues grow as well, and spending has been up quite
a bit of the last couple of sessions. And so
even with all that additional spending, which I've been saying, hey,
we've been spending way too much, the revenue is coming
in faster because of a growing economy, and people are
wanting to leave places like California and New York and
move to places like Texas.

Speaker 3 (56:27):
Yeah, how about spending some of the money on trying
to fix our electric grid or expand our electric grid
to the point. You know, we have this new AI
program the President has proposed, much of which will happen
here in Texas. But we keep adding businesses like bitcoin
and AI and all these big energy users, and we're
not going to be able to produce enough electricity in
order to keep these businesses coming unless we hurry up

(56:48):
and do something about it.

Speaker 40 (56:50):
Well, it's a great point, Jimmy. I mean, I think
we really need energy abundance in Texas. Whenever you look
at what's going on and the growth of the economy,
the data centers and everything else. I don't want to
the innovation and the growth from the economy. Instead, I
want to figure out ways to get more energy across
the economy as well. And so I think by rolling
back a lot of the regulations that Trump did in
some of these executive borders in his first few days

(57:12):
will help out tremendously. And in addition, Texas has a
lot to do too of rolling back a lot of
the regulations and getting government out of the way. I'm
actually pretty excited, Jimmy about these small modular reactors that
many of these data centers can use to provide electricity
for themselves and maybe even then add more to the grid.
I mean, that seems like a great opportunity for more

(57:33):
energy abundance.

Speaker 3 (57:34):
Yeah, it does. Bence, thanks for joining us. Ben's again

Ridiculous canceled by the Biden administration. Of course, Now Trump
has his plan, which is backed up by the blueprint
from the Institute for Energy Research.

Speaker 8 (01:00:35):
And needless to say, it's the exact opposite of the
THEMS Green New Deal.

Speaker 25 (01:00:41):
In the past four years, the Biden Harris administration has
put forth a policy of restriction when it comes to
our energy.

Speaker 5 (01:00:47):
That's Tom Pile, President of the IER.

Speaker 34 (01:00:50):
As for the blueprint, the blueprint is really just a
glide path for members of the Trump administration and the
new Republican Congress to get to work to unleash our
energy here at America.

Speaker 8 (01:01:01):
And that includes opening up Alaska and ending Biden's so
called Inflation Reduction Act.

Speaker 6 (01:03:13):
That's our own skylike. That number, by the way, was
usually was rather more than double what we normally get
on an average date. Well, Texas Governor Greg Gabbett is
now looking to take the state's education TOI man and
extend that to K through twelve public schools. Education expert

on assignments.

Speaker 31 (01:04:15):
It's very important to think about how you're going to
use it and then think about the tools. And the
tool might be a pencil, or it might be artificial intelligence.

Speaker 6 (01:04:22):
That is sw CON who runs something called the con Academy. Now,
if you believe the numbers, seventy three percent of teens
claim they don't use AI for homework help. Even if
that's true, that means about thirty percent r Now, bill

Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
If the only thing you eat is pizza, this, this
might be appealing to you. Otherwise, I'm not sure who
we're going after with this. Cinnamon Toast Crunch has teamed
up with the Toatino's Pizza Rolls to make a pizza
flavored cinnamon toast crunch. Which you serve that with milk?

(01:06:25):
Or would you put tomato sauce over the top of it?
You melt a little mazzarella cheese? What how do you
how do you serve that up? It doesn't yeah cereal
that tastes like pizza, doesn't sound like it works for
a lot of people. Obviously, they're trying to get attention.
They're doing it right before the Super Bowl. It's a
limited edition thing. They're going to serve it up in

(01:06:46):
a box that looks more like a pizza box instead
of a cereal box. It's it's a limited edition thing.
They're just you know, getting attention. I think, I don't
think it's gonna be around for a long time. But
it made me think a little bit there because as
a teenager in particular six teen seventeen eighteen, nineteen year
old teenager, I routinely on the weekends would have leftover

(01:07:07):
pizza for breakfast and cold, by the way, I wouldn't
bother to heat it up. It was just eighty cold
out of the box or room temperature out of the box,
and you know, that glass of milk was just fine
that And then I thought to myself, well that that
really wasn't a very healthy way to eat. And then
I looked it up and there may be a few

(01:07:29):
minor exceptions, but based on nutrition, the pizza is better
for you than the cereal would ever be. So at
the end of the day, if you really like pizza,
you'd be better off eating pizza, actual pizza for breakfast
instead of a cereal that tastes like one six point forty.

at theweather channel dot Com has the long range forecast
for February, March, and April, and it looks like we're
expected to be way above normal here in Texas.

Speaker 20 (01:09:24):
Yeah, and that's going to be quite the change from
the middle and latter portions of January. For sure, we
have been dealing with cold weather, and it's cold right
now as you make your way out. But later today
we'll see sunshine. It hit fifty eight for a high,
and then tonight it will be clear with a load
dipping down to forty degrees. Tomorrow, temperature is a little
bit closer to average sixty one. As the clouds increase

may be some heavy rain of times on Sunday with
a higher sixty six an isolated chower Monday is the

Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
Sixties right now thirty one at your official severe weather station,
News Radio seven forty KRH. So we're talking about the
penny today. We have a question of to day on
that one because doge in Elon Musk evidently are investigating
the possibility of eliminating the penny because the penny costs
three and a half times to make what it's worth,

(01:10:16):
and it's not like they're making at a copper, they're
making it out of zinc. So they're talking about, you know,
just when you have a cash transaction, let's say that
it's eleven dollars and twenty nine cents, they would round
it up to eleven dollars and thirty cents. Now it's
eleven dollars and twenty four cents. Would they round it
down to eleven dollars and twenty cents? Because as long

(01:10:36):
as they're rounding down as well as rounding up, I
guess I'm okay with that part of it. But but
you know, there's the part of me it says, is
this just is this just the next step to eliminating cash,
you know, to get rid of currency so that we
have to go all digital. Now I'm wondering what do
you think about this? We have a we have a
great feature that we haven't really used much on the
morning show before, but we're gonna start using it. It's

Well they're getting together in Davos, Switzerland? Are they yodeling?
Is there like time for yodling? All the all the
elite billionaires who are there, the elitist, the ones who
think that no no borders. You know that we should.
You know, we should just give everybody a whole bunch
of money and stuff. I guess I realize I'm oversimplifying.

(01:13:32):
They had President Trump as a guest speaker. He is
not there at Davos, but he did do a video
where he explained to them how things are going to
be with his administration, and surprisingly, some of them actually seem.

Speaker 5 (01:13:46):
To like it.

Speaker 43 (01:13:46):
I'm pleased to report that America is also a free

earth to create jobs, bill factories, or grow a company
than right here in the good old USA. My message
to every business and the world is very simple. Come
make your product in America, and we will give you
among the lowest taxes of any.

Speaker 5 (01:14:07):

I terminated the ridiculous and incredibly wasteful Green New Deal,

Speaker 44 (01:14:28):
Yes, but perhaps the best moment came with President Trump
brow beat the Bank of America CEO for de banking
conservatives and an allegation that he denies.

Speaker 43 (01:14:38):
I hope you start opening your bank to conservatives because
many conservatives complain that the banks are not allowing them
to do business within the bank, and that included a
place called Bank of America. This conservative They don't take
conservative business. And I don't know if the regulator's mandated
that because of Biden or what. But you and Jamie

That's shit. They're an economic weapon. You know it depending
how you use it and why are you using stuff
like that?

Speaker 45 (01:15:18):
And you know, people argue is inflationary and non inflationary.
I would put in perspective if it's a little inflationary,
you put it's good for national security.

Speaker 5 (01:15:26):
So be it, you get over it. Who wow, I

Speaker 44 (01:15:31):
Hey, you know, Jesse, I'm going to use a food analogy.

They put it before a certain judge in Seattle. I guess,
and there's our surprises.

Speaker 5 (01:19:11):
With that judge.

Speaker 6 (01:19:12):
That's President Donald Trump's reaction after a federal judge in
Seattle blocked President Trump's executive order on birthright citizenship, ending it.
Despite that the President has already delivered on his Day
one promise to secure the border, so.

Speaker 8 (01:19:27):
Much so that Beth Brellia listed nine ways for the Federalist.

Speaker 9 (01:19:32):
This is definitely something voters put at the top of
their list of things they wanted Trump to address.

Speaker 8 (01:19:38):
And topping that list, declaring a national emergency at the border, direct.

Speaker 9 (01:19:44):

President Donald Trump ruffling feathers in Davos at the World
Economic Forum, calling out banks for not doing business with conservatives,
specifically Bank of America.

Speaker 11 (01:21:34):
I guarantee you there's an immediate reaction inside of Bank
of America. We better not screw this up. I don't
want my name in the headlines. I don't want Bank
of America getting called out by Trump, and it's a
message Trump will call out executives in situations like these.

Speaker 6 (01:21:50):

Boomers carry more cash than younger generations now. While some
of that is a habit for many, many years, there
might be something else behind it.

Speaker 14 (01:22:34):
Some of that because old habits may die hard, but
also cash can be a good budgeting toll, and it
works even when technology doesn't. If you think of post
hurricane power outages, for example, having a little extra cash
in the wallet comes in handing bank rates.

Speaker 6 (01:22:49):
Greg McBrien says, just because boomers are holding on to
cash doesn't mean it's all stuff doneunder the mattress or
in the freezer. Seven h five on KTRH in Austin, You,

(01:23:12):
for the Texas budget are out. Some say they're lacking
when it comes to property tax relief.

Speaker 15 (01:23:17):
These initial proposals only looking like six and a half
billion dollars in new property tax relief or less that
far less than the surplus and has actually been made
available to the legislature.

Speaker 6 (01:23:28):
Andrew McVeigh with the Texans for Fiscal Responsibilities says the
state has a near twenty four billion dollar budget surplus.
All of it or most of it should go to
property tax relief. Speaking of property, some of Euston's largest
suburbs are steadily losing residents.

Speaker 16 (01:23:43):
Sugarland is one of them, down about ten thousand residents

Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
Airlines would prefer you to dress for success when you
bored one of their flights going forward, They evidently they've
had enough of skimpy outfits of people wearing f bomb
hoodies and sweatshirts, you know, people having obscene tattoos, all
that kind of stuff, and maybe what kind of got

(01:25:26):
the this thing really to a crest. Here is what
happened on a flight from Los Angeles to San Antonio
where a guy by the name of John Garcia Junior,
forty three year old band by the way, flying from
LA to San Antonio, war a hoodie with the phrase
F bomb Hate World Tour written on its back in front.

(01:25:48):
The staff is like, no, no, you got you got
to take that off, and he didn't want to take
it off, and he ended up getting tossed off the
flight before it ended up leaving because he wouldn't get
rid of the hoodie cause the message F bomb Hate
World Tour was that important to mister Garcia evidently. So
they've decided that they're going to codify their dress code formally,

(01:26:14):
because they didn't really have a formal dress code before,
so that they can take action when people are wearing
things that are inappropriate. Now I've seen worse things than that.
I am equally offended, if you will, not super offended,
but offended by some of the things that people just wears.
Clothing in general, how many times have you gotten on

(01:26:35):
board a plane where and I'm not talking about kids,
You've got an adult wearing a onesie or pajamas and
bedroom slippers. How did we get this way? I think
I know the answer to it, because it all starts
in our schools. You go to into virtually every public school.

(01:26:58):
The only thing they care about it the public's level.

Speaker 5 (01:27:00):
Anymore?

Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
Do you remember are you old enough to remember dress
codes at school? When when I was in high school.
When I firstarted high school, weren't even allowed to wear jeans.
We had to wear slacks, and we had to have
our shirts tucked in, and dresses can only be so short,
and dresses were preferred over pants. For example. Now anything goes.

(01:27:21):
You can wear pj's to school, you can wear your
bedroom slippers, and sometimes it's even just it's even encouraged.
They have different days that they have all these crazy
outfits that the kids wear to school. Wouldn't it be
a if we want to get back to people knowing
how to dress appropriately for certain situations. Would it help
if we kind of went back to the schools and said, hey,

(01:27:41):
from now on, you want to have a special day
every now and again? Fine, but the rest of the time.
Can we have a dress code that's a little bit
more involved than just you know, you can't show your
boobs or you can't show your booty in school?

Speaker 5 (01:27:53):
We can? We can?

Speaker 3 (01:27:54):
We take it up a notch. I mean, dressing for
schools like dressing for a job. In my mind, when
you're kid, that's your job. You go to school seven ten,
time for traffic and weather together.

Speaker 5 (01:28:04):
It licks for your shirt tail out. Yeah, I was
a kid in school. Oh and if you got dirty too,
you weren't supposed to get dirty. I don't know. I
don't know. The dirty thing doesn't work with recess though,
doesn't it.

Speaker 4 (01:28:13):
Nyeah, we had piles of dirt back in Tarking to
play on. Let's clear both of our downtown spackles. The
one on the East Texas worse forty five, the pier
elevated southbound in front of the ferris wheel. That one's
it's clear, but we're still messed up. Right after, you know,
the North Street bridge, the one right after North Maine.
It's a great place to take pictures. By the way southbound.

(01:28:35):
That's an extra twelve minutes this way. How do we
get around all this business? Would you think about taking
maybe Sheppard or the Allsion via duct which nobody else does.

Speaker 5 (01:28:44):
You'll have it to yourself.

Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
Yeah, you got a couple of lights, but then you
don't get in that big smush.

Speaker 5 (01:28:48):
And plus the East Tex.

Well into the fifties for a high today and then
some sixties headed our way for the weekend. It's going

bring in some and storms from Tomorrow night into Sunday.

Speaker 5 (01:30:02):
In the meantime, dry and cold.

Speaker 20 (01:30:03):
If you're about to head out this morning for the

Right now thirty at your official severe weather station, News

They would they would with real cash money. They would
just round up a round down if that were to happen.

(01:30:44):
So I've been asking you, our listeners, what do you
think about that? Are you concerned about the idea of
eliminating the penny? And this is what some of us
you are telling USBs, You're right, it's most definitely a
plan to start eliminating cash.

Oh man, they'll be ditch in school. Seven twenty three
is our time here in Houston's morning news.

Speaker 24 (01:33:42):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:33:42):
Governor Abbott wants to extend the Texas DEI band, currently
in effect for our colleges and universities to K through
twelve schools. I kind of thought we were already doing that,
but I guess not. Cherry Sylvester joins us distinguished a
Senior Fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. I guess
let's start with this, Sherry, because it's it's had a
limited success at our colleges and universities here in Texas.

(01:34:06):
We as much as we were worried about there are
many of the people who are employed in DEI programs
are still employed by these universities. They just got different titles.
It doesn't mean that they've completely given up on trying
to run a DEI program.

Speaker 21 (01:34:21):
Absolutely, Jimmy.

Speaker 30 (01:34:22):
We knew from the beginning that DEI is so embedded
in the institutions of our higher universities that it would
take it would take more than one piece of legislation
to get them out.

Speaker 6 (01:34:35):
There's more legislation.

Speaker 24 (01:34:37):
Uh.

Speaker 30 (01:34:37):
You know, the last time we closed down the DEI offices,
they went through a phase of denial where they renamed them.

Speaker 5 (01:34:44):
Then we went.

Speaker 6 (01:34:45):
Back again and closed them down.

Speaker 30 (01:34:46):
They finally started firing people, but more people have to go.
But but you know, Jimmy, I just want I just
saw a report on NPR which is like moving the
lie on this, and it said de programs were part
of the.

Speaker 5 (01:35:01):
Civil rights movement. Oh come oh, they weren't. Come on, yeah, no,
that said right that, or no, they weren't.

Speaker 30 (01:35:08):
DEI came out about a decade ago with the whole
philosophy that America is founded on white supremacy. Every institution
is racist, that's what fuels the country. So you're either
an oppressor or an oppressed person, either that or the other.

Speaker 6 (01:35:25):
And then they threw in all the crazy gender.

Speaker 30 (01:35:27):
In the ideology. That's what DEI is. So uh, Abbott
is absolutely right. We found it in public schools. Some
public schools have DEI officers. And then here's where they
really get you, Jimmy, the teachers will go off to
some training and they'll be DEI trainers there. Well, we're

(01:35:49):
paying for that taxticers are paying for that, right, and
they're teaching the teachers how to go into the classrooms
and say in the most convincing way, you know, kids,
we're all racist.

Speaker 6 (01:36:02):
The country is racist.

Speaker 30 (01:36:04):
You're either an oppressed person, which means the deck is stacked.
So no matter what you do, you're not going to
be able to move forward, or you're an oppressor and
you're guilty, and let's feel guilty about that.

Speaker 6 (01:36:15):
You know what it is?

Speaker 3 (01:36:16):
You know, Sherry, as you pointed out him, it's been
so hard to get it rooted out of our colleges
in universities at least we have a limited number of
them in Texas, but we have tens of thousands of
k through twelve public schools in the state of Texas.
Who do you put in charge of this, the Texas
Education Association and can they be trusted in order to
lead the way as far as uprooting DEI in all

(01:36:38):
of these schools.

Speaker 30 (01:36:40):
Everybody should be in charge tea and would certainly pay
play a role in this battle. Local scorts would role
in this battle. Parents will plas to play a role
in this battle. I mean we and you know, the
Trump model of getting rid of DEI in the federal
government is going to provide a lot of talk about this.

(01:37:00):
People will begin to know it when they see it,
and you know, we just we just can't alerate it.

Speaker 3 (01:37:08):
You're right, we just and we have to get started
because it's going to take a while. Sherry Sylvester always
a pleasure this thing. We've senior fellow at the Texas
Public Policy Foundation, Cherry Sylvester seven twenty six. Time to
take a look at your money as we check it

Speaker 25 (01:40:21):
Texas really should be a model for the United States,
both in terms of the manner which it produces these resources,
the speed and time at which it interacts with government
for permitting and things like that. And that's really what
we want to try to get to with the American
Energy Blueprint.

Speaker 6 (01:40:34):
He says. They also need to repeal Joe Biden's Green

but also doing it in a way that ensures that
the American people have confidence in our national intelligence services.

Speaker 6 (01:42:03):
VICE President J D. Bance there and incoming FBI Director
Cash Pattel. We'll have his confirmation hearing in the Senate
next week, along with Dan I picked Telsey Gabbert. Meantime,
we're watching Pete Hegseth's nomination as Defense Secretary. It cleared
a major hurdle in the Senate and advanced to a
final confirmation vote that's likely to take place today. However,

(01:42:24):
two Republicans are already going to vote against him, Lisa
Murkowski and Mainz Susan Collins. Seven thirty five This morning,
it's acquired morning on the roads today a little bit
compared to yesterday, when we had dozens of accidents due
to icing, impacting every single one of our major freeways,
more than double what we normally see.

Speaker 5 (01:42:45):
At any time through morning drive.

Speaker 4 (01:42:47):
Yesterday, we had thirty to thirty five plus major incidents
on the major roadways. There was no end of town
that was immune, and there were a lot of major
problems and some pretty serious things that happened yesterday.

Speaker 6 (01:42:58):
That was our own sky. Mid I calmed down a bit, obviously.
He said that KTRH listeners were well informed, but many
drivers didn't heed the warnings about the icy roads and
with your kids set for school this morning, Texas Governor
Greg Abbott wants to extend the state's DEI band to
k through twelve schools.

Speaker 29 (01:43:18):
The momentums on his side, especially after Trump banned DEI
practices this week.

Speaker 5 (01:43:23):
They're divisive.

Speaker 30 (01:43:24):
These programs have not worked, they are a big rift,
and it's time for the state to get rid of them.

Speaker 29 (01:43:29):
Education expert Sherry Sylvester says movement on this should happen
this session and when it comes down to it, this
is also what the citizens want.

Speaker 30 (01:43:36):
Over seventy percent of Texans, including Democrats, for Reproplicans and
Black Texans, Hispanic Texans do not want these programs in
our public schools and universities.

Speaker 29 (01:43:45):
She says, this is a no brainer to protect our
kids and cut down costs. Andorey Perard News Radio seven
forty KTRH, but what are your.

Speaker 6 (01:43:53):
Kids actually learning? And more importantly, are they doing their
own work? Because according to the Vial Pew Research Center,
twenty six percent of students between the ages of thirteen
and seventeen say they use chat GPT for their assignments. Educators,
unbelievably are just okay with this.

Speaker 5 (01:44:13):
What's exciting about AI.

Speaker 31 (01:44:15):
Especially what these teacher tools were now able to give
is Yes, it is one more thing for a teacher
to learn, but we can immediately show them a productivity
improvement's time savings. We're working with school districts that are
already saying it's saving their teachers five to ten hours
a week.

Speaker 6 (01:44:27):
That's Seal con CEO of the kan Academy. Last hour,
we told you that according to the numbers, seventy three
percent said they did not use AI to help with homework.
Even if that's true, that means that nearly thirty percent did.
As for higher education, using air quotes there, a bill
is filed in the Texas House to prevent public colleges

(01:44:50):
in this state from giving tenure to liberal professors.

Speaker 32 (01:44:53):
Tenure was supposed to help promote academic freedom, but it's
done the opposite.

Speaker 21 (01:44:57):
NaN's traditional tenure. Sixty two percent of students self censor
because there is no longer robust discussion of controversial issues.

Speaker 32 (01:45:06):
Tom Lindsay with the Texas Public Policy Foundation says tenured
professors need more accountability.

Speaker 21 (01:45:10):
We're human beings. We require in setive. We do better
when we're rewarded for it, and we get straight when
we're published for not doing the job.

Speaker 32 (01:45:19):
He says a better system would be giving professors three

Speaker 5 (01:45:46):
From start to finish.

Speaker 18 (01:45:47):
We'll be okay here twenty twenty five, here right here
on news radio.

Speaker 3 (01:45:53):
Seven forty kt RH. Yeah, could you pay a penny
for thoughts? If we eliminate the penny? Seven thirty eight
is our time here in Houston's Point News. The Department
of Government Efficiency and Elon Musk taking up that question. Evidently,
because it costs three and a half times what it's
worth to produce a penny, so the suggestion is, well,

(01:46:15):
let's just get rid of the penny, and if you're
using cash, then we'll just round stuff up or round it.
I didn't notice that they said anything about rounding things down.
You know, you would think you would round down as
well as round up. Maybe they just want to round up,
in which case things would cost you more if that
were the case. But I asked asked you guys to

(01:46:36):
weigh in by going to our iHeartRadio Appits free. If
you don't have it, you can download it for free.
Put in KTRH. You you can set our station in
there amongst your favorites, so just like your car radio,
and you can respond to questions with the talkback button.
You get thirty seconds. Tell me who you are, where
you're from, and how you feel about the penny.

Speaker 27 (01:46:56):
Hey, Jimmy, I don't know I because it's accurate or not,
but I've heard more than one set there are more
pennies sitting in people's jars at home than there are
actually in circulation.

Speaker 5 (01:47:08):
I always thought that was interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:47:10):
I'm not sure you're not wrong about that. I think
you're probably right about that, especially if you are of
a certain age group. If you are little on the
older side, let's say fifty five plus, you might have
a coin chart home where you know dimes and pennies
and nickels and quarters end up in there, at least
at least at my house. I'm not sure how many

(01:47:31):
pennies I've got in there, but it's probably in the hundreds.

Speaker 5 (01:47:33):
How about you. Elane, Hey Jimmy, this is Elaine from Montgomery.
I say get rid of the penny.

Speaker 12 (01:47:38):
Anything that will help those curb the spending in this
country is okay by me.

Speaker 5 (01:47:43):
Thanks, Happy Friday, Have a great weekend. Everybody.

Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
Right back at you. Seven forty times for traffic and
weather together.

Speaker 19 (01:47:50):
South Belt from two eighty eight to Southwest Freeway is
open and clear.

Speaker 9 (01:47:55):
No ice, ba, no black guys.

Speaker 17 (01:47:57):
You glad you're hat not having to play whack them
all like area.

Speaker 4 (01:48:02):
I'm sorry, Jimmy Cat from Brookside Village. You just can't
hold her back someday you couldn't wait to talks gun on.
I mean, it's like trying to hold back the horses
at the Kentucky Derby. Let's check downtown. We cleared two accidents,
one at Franklin Street.

Speaker 5 (01:48:14):
You're like, where's Franklin Street. That's right by the ferris
wheel on forty five the Pierce Elevated. This is a
two headed monster.

Speaker 4 (01:48:21):
It's messing up your Katie Freeway from Studemont and it's
also messing out. Oh look at that North Freeway all
the way from the loop now southbound and eighteen minute
drag also east text not no help for you that way.
We had the wreck at Texas Avenue. It's pretty solid now.
Twenty two extra minutes from equipment down to the canyon
if you're taking the fan and exit. I've got a
report of something on the Southwest Freeway.

Speaker 5 (01:48:42):
Where's Doug Pike one? I need him?

Speaker 4 (01:48:44):
Southwest Freeway outbound that the West Park curved.

Speaker 5 (01:48:47):
That wreck looks like it's clearing.

Speaker 4 (01:48:49):
Stages were packed up from six to ten then inbound
more breaks right after West Park tip line one more time, Peace.

Speaker 27 (01:48:55):
Debby, hard work.

Speaker 6 (01:48:57):
The only cananigans going on around here.

Speaker 21 (01:49:00):
Weather.

Speaker 6 (01:49:00):
Just think the past Tuesday or low was nineteen degrees.

Speaker 15 (01:49:03):
It's coming to you stay.

Speaker 6 (01:49:04):
They're predicting something like what fifty nine degree that's Texas.

Speaker 5 (01:49:09):
That's Texas.

Speaker 4 (01:49:10):
Jeff mar I'm Skymike and the Generator Supercenter dot Com traffic.

Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
Set stick around whether it's going to change anytime from
our KTRH Generator super Center twenty four, our weather Center.
Jeff Barr is here and we are going to have
a change in the weather for the better. Yeah, we
are wins out of the south pulling in some warmer air.
Will be in to the sixties this weekend, and we'll
stay in the sixties as we start off next week
with a chance for some rained times. And we'll first
see that rainfall making your appearance as we had from

(01:49:33):
Saturday night into Sunday as a front arrives in the meantime,
clear and cold this morning, a Sunday afternoon into the
midwupper fifties for a high overnight clear as we dropped
down to forty. We should hit sixty one tomorrow with
increasing clouds. Rain was in tomorrow night and what Sunday
with showers and thunderstorms and the end result maybe some
heavy downpours at times. The good news. They will hind
your sixty six degrees JEP. But you're right now. Let
me see if we've moved past thirty. We've been stuck

(01:49:55):
at thirty for well, Nope, still thirty at your official
severe weather station, News Radio seven four KTRH son. How
are you gonna pinch a penny? If there's no pennies
to pinch, how are you gonna put a penny? On
a railroad track. If if there's if we eliminate the penny,
I mean, there's a certain truth that there's there's so
many pennies out there that we just have in jars.

(01:50:16):
If we freed the penny, it'd be a long long
time before we ever ran out of them, right, But so,
so is this a big deal and not a big deal?

Speaker 5 (01:50:24):
You're concerned about it? Not concerned about it.

Speaker 3 (01:50:26):
Dose is considering eliminating the penny again because it costs
three and a half times to make versus what it's worth.
And our listeners have been chiming in using the talkback
button at the iHeartRadio app, which is free KTRH. Again,
you hit the talkback button and give us your opinion.

Speaker 5 (01:50:42):
My name is Herschel, calling from Deer Park, Texas.

Speaker 6 (01:50:45):
I personally never use pennies, very seldom do I use
pennies anymore.

Speaker 5 (01:50:50):
So it doesn't seem like a bad idea. But if
you allow them to do that, where does it end.

Speaker 3 (01:50:55):
That's what everybody's worried about, incrementalism, especially if we are
going to continue to move more and more towards a
digital society.

Speaker 5 (01:51:04):
Yeah, this is David from Lamark, Texas.

Speaker 47 (01:51:07):
And I think it would be a very bad idea
to get rid of the penny, because not everybody depends
on the credit card. Actually, I spend more money using
my debit card and I do cash, So no, I
think cash is still king.

Speaker 5 (01:51:21):
All right, cash is king? Do you always keep cashing
your wallet?

Speaker 3 (01:51:26):
It's funny because I always keep like at least forty
sixty bucks in my pocket. I just I know plenty
of people, including my wife, who they use a debit
card for everything. You know, it's not unusual for her
to have no money whatsoever, and it freaks me out,
doesn't freak her out at all.

Speaker 5 (01:51:44):
Hey, this is goes from granger Land. I'm twenty nine
and I use cash and digital currency. I don't think
it's that big of a deal to get rid of
the penny.

Speaker 6 (01:51:52):
Those already people who don't know what a two dollar bill.

Speaker 5 (01:51:54):
Is, Oh yeah, you got any of those. I've got
a few of those.

Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
I think this is running like fifty to fifty today
between getting rid of it, eliminating the penny, or keeping it.
Seven to fifty time for traffic and weather together, Carrie
cashsh how much cash you have on you right now?

Speaker 4 (01:52:11):
I don't know but it's so thick in my wallet
it's making my butt look big. So especially after Eddie
pays me. Let's check out. Oh, by the way, Allison's
on my Facebook.

Speaker 5 (01:52:20):
She says, the rodeo bars this year will be cashless.

Speaker 4 (01:52:23):
Interesting. Let's go go Allison's way to eighty eight. She
could afford those toll lanes because she's rich. Northbound from
the Beltway, we're slow up to Orum. It's an extra
three or four minutes this way.

Speaker 5 (01:52:35):
Hi Southwest Freeway outbound that wreck still there West Park
Curve tough to see the laneage. That's a big spackle.

Speaker 4 (01:52:41):
Now from the Loop, this is outbound, not inbound, and
then inbound I think we're revernicking. That's why let's do
West Park tollway. Got breaks now around Highway six and
inbound of course the Katie Freeway.

Speaker 5 (01:52:52):
Katie's not bad.

Speaker 4 (01:52:53):
It's very Friday like all the way to the loop
and then the suck it starts right as you hit
Studemont inbound due to that earlier rec we had at
the ferris wheel on the peer slevated southbound east text,
it's just going to be rough stuff all morning. Equipment
down to the Med Center into the canyon you lose
about twenty two minutes southbound.

Speaker 5 (01:53:10):
I'm Skymike on the Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (01:53:14):

I don't think it's about the climb for President Trump.
I think it's about the results. It's about getting things done.
And he's he's done so much in this first week
in office. He hasn't even been in office for a
week yet, and I mean, the executive orders are flying
off the shelf.

Speaker 5 (01:54:47):
But let's tackle this one first.

Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
Because he did say during his handiting interview, all of
our problems are solvable, you know. Sean Hannity's asking me
about you know, can we fix this, and he says,
all of our problems are solvable. All it's going to
take is time. I mean, unfortunately, in some cases is
going to take some money. Here's Greg Guttfield's response with that,
it seems like a.

Speaker 44 (01:55:05):
Lot of the things that Trump is doing feels like
low hanging fruit. But in order to solve these problems,
which seem simple, you have to think of them as problems.
They never saw men competing against women in women's sports
as a problem. They didn't see a porest border as
a problem, and they didn't see crime as a problem

(01:55:26):
or the homelessness and drug addiction on the street as problems.

Speaker 5 (01:55:29):
So they had no incentive to solve them.

Speaker 44 (01:55:32):
So all of these problems suddenly to Americans are like, wow, this.

Speaker 5 (01:55:35):
Is pretty obvious. Yeah, you seal up the border, you
put bad.

Speaker 44 (01:55:39):
Guys in prison, and you get guys out of.

Speaker 5 (01:55:42):
Girls' locker room.

Speaker 44 (01:55:43):
So the challenge isn't solving the problem, it's getting rid
of the incentives that had people not solve it.

Speaker 5 (01:55:51):
Why did they not solve it?

Speaker 44 (01:55:53):
Take take something like racial politics, like we were at
a period of time in America where we were optimist
sick about race relations. This was probably about fifteen years ago,
until we weren't because racial division was incentivized financially, people
were making money off it. So what you have to
do is you have to look at what is what

(01:56:13):
is incentivizing people to be a problem.

Speaker 5 (01:56:16):
Eliminate that.

Speaker 44 (01:56:17):
You can't solve problems with identity politics because the solve
problems you got to work together, and identity politics says no,
we have to stay apart. I'm different, you're different. Myself
is more important.

Speaker 5 (01:56:30):
Than the group.

Speaker 44 (01:56:31):
But as an individual, you can help other individuals.

Speaker 5 (01:56:34):
So you can either lose with.

Speaker 44 (01:56:36):
Identity politics, or you could join with your brothers and
sisters and win.

Speaker 3 (01:56:41):
You know, my big takeaway from that one is just
that you can't solve a problem unless you realize it's
a problem. And for the progressive left, you know, open borders,
that wasn't a problem to them. You know, that wasn't
a problem to them. They weren't going to change anything
about those things because to them it wasn't a problem.

(01:57:03):
But to this administration it is. So yeah, well we'll
get around to solving these things, because a problem is
a problem as soon as you realize what it is.
And that's where that's where the common sense is coming back,
right in most of most of the majority of Americans,
you know, with that fifty four percent approval rating, granted,
brand new presidents have had higher ratings, but that's a

(01:57:25):
historical high. For President Trump, I think there's that many
more people who have come around understanding what the problems
are and are looking for him to solve the problems.
And like I said, once you know what the problems are,
and you have the acumen business acumen that this guy has.
You can get it solved. You all have a great weekend.
See a Monday morning brighten early five am and I'll

(01:57:46):
see the staff of four I hope over an am.
