means they do it to us and we do it
to them.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
So we're going to charge China a thirty four percent
tariff compared to the sixty seven percent they charge us.
The EU gets hit with a twenty percent tariff. They
charge us thirty nine percent. As of now, investors are
not happy. Overnight trading is down. Dow futures are off
by more than one thousand points. Markets in Europe and

(02:21):
Asia are also down this morning. Democrats, the mainstream media,
and the foreign markets are having a meltdown over this.
They forget that this is what we all voted for
in November.

Speaker 7 (02:32):
The tariffs are Trump's atempt to finally balance our trade
with Europe.

Speaker 8 (02:36):
The Europeans have much higher tariffs on American products than
we have had on theirs. They have been unwilling to budge.

smells bad.

Speaker 13 (04:07):
If she's convicted, half of the country probably won't believe it,
and if she's not convicted, half of the country you
won't believe it. And I just think that when you
get into that level of political vengeance, you got to
have a case that is so tight.

Speaker 5 (04:22):

judges who have blocked the Trump agenda, Texas Senator Ted
Cruz accusing them or accusing Democrats of judge shopping.

Speaker 14 (05:15):
Unelected radical judges trying to overturn the election because they
disagree with what the voters decided.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
Republicans have introduced legislation that would restrict ruling of federal
district judges to apply only to their district, not nationwide.
Also on Capitol Hill, hearing on the weaponized Biden FBI
held by the House Oversight Subcommittee. Texas Democrat Congresswoman Jasmine
Crockett was there doing Jasmine Crockett things.

Speaker 15 (05:44):
I first just want to begin with the news alert.
Guess what, Joe Biden is not the president anymore, so
maybe we can move on, maybe we can move into
the president.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Yeah, she wants to ignore the various witch hunts that
took place against Trump, and that's just more at the
Democratic Party is continuing it's downward spiral.

Speaker 16 (06:04):
Democrats have a thirty percent approval rating and more than
half of their voters disagree with their party's leadership, according
to new polls. Public News founder Michael Schellenberger tells Fox
the party has no consistent message or direction.

Speaker 17 (06:15):
They have nothing coherence, mostly just orange man bad, rocket
man bad. But they really shot the wad last year
when they tried to incarcerate Trump, called him hitler, and
then engaged in mass censorship against the supporters. I don't
know how you come back from that without some real
hard reset.

Speaker 16 (06:31):

First oil and gas lease this year brought in almost
forty million dollars.

Speaker 18 (06:58):
This is a good news story for America.

Speaker 19 (07:00):
It shows that America is back open for business. We're
not only just producing oil and gas here, but we're
also sharing that expertise with our allies.

Speaker 5 (07:09):

US will look to produce even more oil and gas

I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News Weather in traffic station
News Radio seven forty KGRH.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
What happened, Why it happened, The information you need to
start the day. Now back to Houston's morning News'.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Right Europe twenty percent to you Europe to stay with the
group I don't know. Are they from Europe? I mean,
do we have to pay like a twenty percent here
for playing this song this morning? No, I'm not sure
where they're from. To be honest with you. Five h
eight is our time here on Houston's Warning News. All right,
Liberation Day was yesterday. The Trump tariffs will announced and
they are real and they are spectacular. They are in effect.

(08:07):
In most cases, they go intoffect actually in April the fifth.
Every single foreign import, regardless of where it comes from,
will have a minimum of a ten percent baseline tariff
that goes in defect on April the fifth. There are
some countries that will only will face the base rate.
These are the countries that only have ten percent. So

(08:29):
if you are buying something that comes from these countries,
you would think that the additional cost to you would
be minimal. If any the United Kingdom, Singapore, Brazil, Australia,
New Zealand, Turkey, Colombia, Argentina, El Salvador, the United Arab Emirates,

(08:49):
and Saudi Arabia, that will be a ten percent. I
assume that also is on imported Saudi oil, right, I
would think anything imported ten percent. There are custom terrorfts
for what are called the worst defenders. These are the
ones who treat us the most poorly. These going to
effect on the ninth of April. Please note that these

(09:10):
did not go into effect today. None of these tarrs
have taken place yet. The first ones, the ten percent,
starts on the fifth. The ones I'm going to announce
now start on April the ninth. I assume you would
assume that has something to do with, I don't know,
maybe giving them another chance in these countries to change
their policies. Although we're told this was not done as

(09:34):
a negotiation tactic. This was done because this is what
has to happen in order to get the trade imbalance fixed.
So the trading partners that are subject to a specific
rate above ten percent include the European Union twenty percent,
China fifty four percent, that's right, fifty four percent, Vietnam

(09:55):
forty six percent, Thailand thirty six percent, Japan twenty four percent,
Cambodia forty nine percent, South Africa thirty percent. In Taiwan,
we get lot of stuff from Taiwan thirty two percent.
No additional tariffs on Canada or Mexico since they've already
been targeted. There will be a twenty five percent tariff

(10:18):
in all car imports that that is going to happen,
twenty five percent tariff and all foreign made automobiles. However
you decide to find what that means. That's we're wrapped
with the tariffs. Five to ten time for traffic and
whether it be gohy, jimmy, do it do what.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
I want you to breakat with a Trump style China.

Speaker 10 (10:35):
I can't do Trump.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
You know, I'm my Trump is not very good either.
Let's do there's only one Trump. Let's go to the
hard work and east side. Put your hard head on,
and this is I ten East. I've got kind of
an obstructed view. You can see actually better than meat listeners.
But this is I ten east. By the truck stops
at Monmouth. I've got to wreck its truck. It's over
on the side. For some reason, trans Star is really

(10:57):
interested in this.

Speaker 10 (10:58):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
Don't don't see a big, big scooch here on the outbound.
But let's watch out as you're passing Sheldon Road. I
know you wanted me to say delldlle, but Sheldon Road outbound,
watch out as you're trying to get across the Sanda
Center River Bridge. If you could have a better view
of the lane, it's let me know seven one three
two one two tips. Now, while we're over here, let's
get a look at Hartman Bridge. Fred Hartman Bridge, Baytown

(11:22):
to Laporte. You're pretty, looks good. Hartman Bridge looks nice.
Toll Bridge Rock and Long north Shore to two twenty
five and double check here on the six ten Sherman Bridge, and.

Speaker 10 (11:33):
For now noe all good bud plants.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Two twenty five Skymike on the USA R and V
Resorts dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
From r KTRH tom Tax Defendrews twenty four hour within
center kim boone Infantry. Today, winds continue. Any chance of
getting rained today.

Speaker 20 (11:48):
I think if you're north of Harris County you have
a slight chance to see a shower storm today. A
little bit better chance for the entire area tomorrow. But
it's really as we get into Saturday when we'll have
our best chance for showers and storms.

Speaker 10 (12:00):
So windy and very warm today.

Speaker 20 (12:01):
Record high temperatures expected this afternoon in the upper eighties
to a round ninety. Our current record is an eighty seven.
We might be a degree or two above that, and
again our best chance to see any rain today and
just a slight chance would be north of Harris County
middle to upper seventies tonight, another windy, warm day tomorrow,
about a thirty percent chance for an afternoon evening storm tomorrow,
and then much better chances on Saturday, and we could
see two waves of storms, ones in the morning and

(12:23):
then one later on Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Any
storm that we could see over the next few days
would have the potential to be strong, too severe, especially Saturday. Drier,
cooler area in Sunday with sunshine in low sixties temperature.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Right now, let me double check in here for you.
It is seventy seven at your official severe weather station,
News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
It's Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New South
Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barretts and the Houston
Morning News team.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
All the info you need did take on the day.
It is a five twenty here on Houston's Morning News.
So they spend a lot of time in the Judiciary
Committee at the Senate yesterday talking about rogue of federal
judges who make nationwide decisions and legislation potentially offering up
legislation that would you know, codify that the job of

(13:15):
a federal judge is to rule on things in his district,
not to rule on things coast to coast. Senator Josh Hawley,
who's always very eloquent as it relates to the law
on rogue federal judges. We'll hear from him next. But
first we've got traffic and weather together, starting with U
skuy Mike.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
All right, let's clear this truck on the East Freeway
right before the Santa Center River Bridge that was outbound,
not inbound, and the bridge we're just fine back.

Speaker 10 (13:41):
To full speed.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
That was eastbound, so stay the course here, all right,
let's go. I've got something over around Baytown. Let's hit
the tip line seven one three two one two tips
trade dude, Good morning, Scott Moge northbound at FM fourteen
oh five.

Speaker 10 (13:57):
You have a total road play.

Speaker 21 (14:00):
It's Obron on Actor Dent heading north to Bounce.

News Radio seven forty k TRH. Get you caught up
on some of our top stories on a Thursday morning.
Here's Cliff, Thank.

Speaker 22 (14:42):
You, Jimmy.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
One Texas state representative has threatened vacating the speakership of
Dustin Burroughs. A Texas man is arrested for making terroristic
threats against ice agents, and the World Meteorologicalist Organization officially
retires the names of Beryl, Helene Millton, and John after
last year's hurricanes. At the latest news anytime at KTRH

(15:05):
dot com, and our next update is at five point thirty.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Always stronger than the setback, the comeback.

Speaker 23 (15:13):
The greatest comeback of all time.

Speaker 18 (15:15):
Here America's Comeback.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
On news radio seven k t RH.

Speaker 24 (15:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
I mean, you've got federal judges who are judge, jury,
and executioner. Right, they've been appointed that they're appointed for life.
They can't be fired. The idea behind appointing at federal judge,
by the way, that way versus electing them. The whole
idea behind that was so that you could have a
fair and impartial legal system with the judges. You know,

(15:46):
they wouldn't have to worry about making unpopular decisions and
having to be re elected and to go through that.
So this way they can just make whatever rulings they
want or whatever. The idea was, this was going to
be a way to get more fair verdicts or judgments
from these judges. And the reality is, of course, that
just means that they could do whatever they want to do.

(16:06):
And in the case of these liberal federal judges, they've
decided that, you know, they're going to basically I think
I heard Tommy Tuberville say, they're playing four carter basketball
on this, you know, playing keep away. You just you'll
put up as many legal hurdles against Trump as you
possibly can to keep him from getting his programs through

(16:27):
and that's they've already done like fifteen sixteen cases against
Trump so far into this administration. That's more than most
presidents have to face during their entire four year term.
So you can tell what's going on here. Senator Josh
Hawley thinks it's time for all of this stuff to stop.

Speaker 25 (16:43):
So nineteen sixty three, so the Republic is two hundred
years old the most by the time we get the
first district court issuing a universal injunction binding parties who
were not before it, and even then, as you just
alluded to, then there's this period of quiet where they're
really not issued until the twenty first century, until the

(17:04):
twenty eighteens.

Speaker 18 (17:05):
Is that correct, that's correct, and.

Speaker 25 (17:07):
Then we see this explosion as you can see in
the chart behind me. In the Bush years Bush forty three,
we have six universal injunctions binding non parties. In the
Obama years we have twelve. You reference one of those cases,
Professor Bray and your opening statement, your written statement. And
then under Trump in his first administration, sixty four universal

(17:28):
injunctions binding non parties, fourteen under Biden, and now fifteen
under the second Trump administration.

Speaker 18 (17:35):
In one month alone, mister Pinincio.

Speaker 25 (17:38):
Let me just come to you, tell us why this
pattern that we're seeing here, And there's a clear partisan
valance to it, but there's even more of a recncy valance.
I mean, this is something that just did not happen
until very very recently. Why is this so distortive to
our federal system? Well, thank you, Sedather.

Speaker 26 (17:56):
It's distortive because it has judges operating outside their constitutional role.
They are exerting policy making power over the whole country.
And the issue is this, we are a republic. Those
who get to exercise policy making power like yourself, like
this body, have to face the electorate every six years,
two years, four years, whatever it is.

Speaker 18 (18:16):
Judges do not.

Speaker 26 (18:17):
We gave them life tenure so that they could be
insulated and make decisions without fear or favor. But we
limited the judicial power to cases and controversies just the
party before them. And in my written testimony, I note
that Hamilton said it's the least dangerous branch, but he
had a caveat only if they.

Speaker 11 (18:34):
Exercised the judicial power.

Speaker 26 (18:36):
If they range beyond it, then it can be the
most dangerous branch, and the public's confidence will be undermined
because they have no chance to get rid of these
judges because they have life tenure.

Speaker 18 (18:45):
They don't want to be ruled by kings.

Speaker 26 (18:46):
They want to be ruled in a republic where they.

Speaker 10 (18:48):
Have a vote.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
Well, how about we get this in front of the
Supreme Court then, okay, So can we just expedited to
the Supreme Court. It should be pretty easy based on
the founding Father's interpretation of what they supposed to be.
It should be pretty easy to come up with a
decision here to prevent this from happening. So we can
bring this to an end. Five twenty six. Here in
Houston's warning News, time to take a look at your money.

(19:10):
Here's Denise Pella Greeny.

Speaker 27 (19:12):
Yeah, and this report is sponsored by Total Wine and more.
Could be a wild ride down on Wall Street today.
Stock futures are absolutely plunging after President Trump announced a
ten percent tariff on most countries higher duties on sixty
countries to counter large trade imbalances with the US. The
move is triggering widespread concern about higher prices, slower growth,

(19:33):
and possibly even a recession. Right now, Dow futures are
down one one hundred ninety two s and P futures
down one hundred ninety six, Nasdaq futures plunging seven hundred
sixty eight points, Crude oil futures down four percent. Right now,

let's head over to Batestown.

Speaker 10 (21:03):
Big problem here. I used to call it the Bear Plan.
I don't know what it is now.

Here's Cliff Sanders, Thank you.

Speaker 5 (21:51):
Jimmy five thirty two on KTRH our top story this hour.

Speaker 28 (21:55):
He let his Democrat chairman rite the budget in secret
in rooms that have no Here.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Is at a state representative Brian Harrison talking to Michael
Barry on KTRH. He's upset about the budget that lawmakers
got just hours before a vote this week. Harrison did
attempt a motion to vacate the chair, which is really
an attempt to remove Speaker Dustin Burrows, who literally dare
Harrison to quote, go ahead and file it. Elsewhere In Austin,

(22:23):
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is already calling for a special
session if bail reform and a THCHC band don't pass.

Speaker 22 (22:32):
Andy Hoague with the Travis County Republican Party is not surprised.

Speaker 29 (22:37):
Pragmatically, he has no choice on this, and it's something
that he's done before Governor Abbott has done.

Speaker 22 (22:42):
But is the THCHC ban worth it? And will lawmakers
really not pass bail reform?

Speaker 29 (22:48):
I do think each has a good chance on its own, Merriots,
if we were to sit down and discuss and come
to some conclusion.

Speaker 22 (22:55):
But the problem has been getting the House to vote
on anything. BIGS News Radio seven forty k Thieri, the.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
Lieutenant Governor, is scheduled to join Jimmy at seven point
fifty also in Austin, and despite President Trump's shutdown of
the border, Texas Land Commissioner Don Buckingham is asking the
federal government to secure two border islands.

Speaker 30 (23:16):
We have two islands, Roma Island and Beaver Island. Dave
Haven's for the cartels from which they were operating their
smuggling activities. We are taking away their safe spots that
they used to smuggle drugs, guns, people.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
In twenty twenty three, three other islands were cleared out
and secured.

Speaker 11 (23:34):
It only took a couple of weeks.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
Meantime, in Hayes County, near San Antonio, more than forty
trendy Iragua members were arrested in a joint operation that
included ICE, the FBI, and DPS. On ex Governor Greg
Abbott posted quote trend Dear Ragua tried to set up
shop in Texas, but we won't let this ruthless gang
take route in our state. Thanks to Joe Biden's open

(23:57):
border policies work authorizations for illegal aliens. Non citizens could
get benefits. They shouldn't have access to.

Speaker 31 (24:05):
Any alien who's been given one of these numbers who
works in this country for ten years is going to
be able to draw upon social security benefits and to
be able to draw upon medic.

Speaker 5 (24:16):
Former immigration Judge Arc Arthur says those numbers are valid
and last forever. So the only way to stop this
is to deport these people and implement national verified illegal
alien crossings at the border or at record lows. There
were just over seven thousand arrests in March, the smallest
number since y two K when the FED started releasing

(24:38):
this information. Coming up on five point thirty five, Investors
are upset over tariffs this morning. Down futures are down
nearly twelve hundred points now. The president is starting with
a ten percent baseline on all countries and a twenty
five percent tariff on foreign made cars. Treasury Secretary Scott
Besson had a warning for our trade partners who not retaliate.

Speaker 18 (24:59):
Sit take it in.

Speaker 32 (25:01):
Let's see how it goes, because if you retaliate, there
will be escalation.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
Bestn't on Fox, but it looks like Canada did not
get the message, as Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to
increase tariffs in response. Five point thirty five more fireworks
between Houston Mayor John Wickmeyer and City Controller Chris Hollins,
who claims HFD overtime is crushing the city's finances.

Speaker 33 (25:25):
I'm not gonna get it a violent We're just clearing
the record for the public.

Speaker 18 (25:28):
The record is that we have record over time. Yes,
you're in a circumstanction.

Speaker 26 (25:33):
Is the circumstances here that required Those are the fact.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
The mayor calling Hollins's report quote political and unacceptable. The
City of Houston's financial audit for the twenty three twenty
twenty twenty three twenty twenty four fiscal year is in
and it's worse than we thought. It turns out we
had a five billion dollar bunch of deficit last year
due to insane spending.

Speaker 34 (25:54):
The thing was we need to just for calling back
some of this money that we've given away. We've been
granting tech exemptions of these affordable housing projects. Oliver Down
have a billion dollars off the tactural.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
Bill, King att Rice, as we have underspent on infrastructure.
Five point thirty six HPD and the FEDS raid more
than a dozen game rooms across Houston, seizing over one
hundred slot machines. The DOJ has not commented on these raids,
and in response to the crime that we've seen in
short term rentals across the area, Houston City Council is

(26:26):
adding amendments to an ordinance that would make operating one
without a valid registration certificate illegal.

Speaker 35 (26:34):
All of this started by bad actors and multifamily that
are not only taking housing stock away, but creating a
public safety risk as well as a NU sence. We
also have challenges with enforcement.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
City Council Member Abbey came in. The registration fee would
be two hundred and seventy five dollars a year. Five
point thirty seven, the Rockets pick up their fiftieth winn
of the season, beating Utah one forty three to one

six years. On Cliff Saunders on Houston's News, whether in

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Houston's Morning News continues with Jimmy Barrett and the Houston
Morning News Team.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Oh I do love Steak, I do I hated it
when I was a kid. But that's only because the
old man would, you know, make steaks on the barbecue
out back on the charcold grill, neverer charcold grills when
we all use tuck old grills, and he would start.
If he didn't have lighter fluid, he'd pour gasoline on
it to get started. That caused a few problems, you know,

(27:39):
from time to time. But he used to. He came
from the well done generation. He ate all of his
meat well done, and his steaks weren't well done. In
my world, well done is not well done. It's horribly done.
Give me a steak that's medium rare. I'll even take
it a little bit even more rare than that. That's why.

(28:00):
That's when it's juicy. That's when it's got flavor. But
you see these lists from time to time of who
has the best steak? So here's one on a national basis,
America's favorite steakhouse, America's favorite steakhouse. So who do you
suppose would make the list of America's favorite steakhouse? Number
ten on the on the list was Logan's Roadhouse. But

(28:24):
we really don't care about who's at the bottom. The
top five were like Longhorns. Who else was on the list,
because the list just disappeared on me? There it is.
Logan's Roadhouse was number ten. Ruth Chris. Ruth Chris actually
came in number nine, Number eight Morton's Steakhouse. Number seven Sissler,

(28:45):
Hey God, Sizzler beat out Morton's and Ruth Chris. How's
that possible? I guess what they did is they based
this on a combination of Americans who know the brand
and the percentage of them that like it, or the
percentage of them of Americans who say they like that place.

Speaker 10 (29:06):
We don't have any Sizzlers, do we?

Speaker 36 (29:08):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (29:09):
Number Number six Black Angus Steakhouse wherever they are. Lone
Star Steakhouse came in number five, Golden Golden Corral came
in number four. You see nothing wrong with Golden Corral.
It's just that I don't think of that as a
place you go for a steak. To me, that's just
the place you go to fill your belly, you know,

(29:30):
because you can go up there as many times pretty
much as you want. Number three Longhorned Steakhouse, Number two
Texas Roadhouse, and number one Outback Steakhouse. That's that's the
top ten. But here here's my question of the day.
You go to the iHeartRadio app ktr H, please put
us on your preset number one on your preset. Next
week I'm making a boay prices for those of you

(29:51):
that send pictures of us on your preset. So sam
by for details about that coming up on Monday. But
for now, I would like you know you thirty seconds
you can tell me either your favorite national chain steakhouse,
your favorite steakhouse that no longer exists, or your favorite
local steakhouse. I'm a big taste of Texas fan. For example,

(30:13):
maybe you like Papist Brothers, you know, whomever you like.
There's a whole bunch of great steakhouses here in Texas.
And me you got Papist Brothers, Brunners on the Bayou,
Vic and Anthony's. The list goes on and on. Give
me your favorite steakhouse again. Go with the iHeart Radio
app KTRH. Hit the microphone. You get thirty seconds time
for traffic and weather together. I never realized there were

(30:33):
that many steakhouses. We have a ton of steakhouse. Do
you remember steak in ale I?

Speaker 37 (30:38):
Do?

Speaker 10 (30:39):
I do remember that?

Speaker 11 (30:40):
The Shakespearean house, and I would love that.

Speaker 18 (30:43):
I wonder what.

Speaker 10 (30:44):
I wonder what happened to them? I wonder what drove
them out of business.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
You can imagine them not succeeding. I love steak in ale.
I know one thing. I'm hungry. Let's look at the
North Freeway. I'm hearing rumblings. I got a call, but
I couldn't make hide er hair out of it. About
forty five and a rail bridge eats guys southbound. I'm
just gonna guess this is talking about cross nimbers. I
see it as getting a little thick after gallery and southbound.

(31:08):
Just watch out whatever's going on on the right. We'll
zoom that with the five point fifteen break.

Speaker 11 (31:12):
If you've just.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
Woke up, Mike, what happened to that problem on the
bridge on the East Freeway.

Speaker 10 (31:16):
Out but it's gone.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
That was an accident on the truck at the truck
stop here on the right side, East Freeway outbound, not
inbound one forty six. Oh, this one's looking serious. Got
a wreck here at FM fourteen oh five. What is
the plant now that used to be called bear? This
is a big northbound squish. So if you're trying to
go from Baytown up to ten Mont Bellevue. Let's hop

(31:39):

the Grand Parkway. I'm Skymike and the Generator Supercenter dot

got more windy conditions coming today. Can I guess Wendy
For the next few days?

Speaker 10 (31:56):
Right?

Speaker 20 (31:56):
It will be very windy and warm here today tomorrow
ahead of a cold front that brings showers and storms
a late Friday night and Saturday. Now, speaking of showers
and storms, there's a slight chance to see a shower
storm today north of Houston, and if we do see
what up there, there is a potential that it could
be strong too severe. Otherwise, windy and very warm today
with the record high as possible in the upper eighties
to around ninety mid seventies Tonight, a little bit better

(32:17):
chance for storms tomorrow. Again, the best chance will be
north of Houston. High temperatures tomorrow middle to upper eighties,
and then late Friday night Saturday, that's what we'll see
the front move through, bringing showers and storms, some strong too,
severe in behind it, sunny and cooler Sunday.

Speaker 10 (32:30):
To finish the weekend, heslow sixties.

This is Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New
South Windows Solutions.

Speaker 10 (32:46):
Right.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
So, the Day of Liberation was yesterday. There's a piece
of American thinker that talks about the six things that
President Trump has on the list to do in order
to make America great again. One of those things happened
yesterday with the announcement of the tariffs. Boring that coming
up with Stephen Helgison. He's a former ambassador and writer.
We'll talk to him in just a moment, But first

(33:07):
the stew a little trappic and weather together. So check
out the drive. Look out for what's guy Mine.

Speaker 4 (33:10):

scary spot. You already have the text dot wall of
death that's inbound. Mike from Magnolia gave me a good

Speaker 21 (33:21):

called Gallagher at Singo in through ninety it became a

Speaker 10 (33:27):
Oh Gold Cup.

Speaker 9 (33:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 21 (33:28):
And then Steak and Al at Tacoma in June ninety.
That was a great blaze as well.

Speaker 11 (33:32):
Gigeez, it became a strip club too.

Speaker 10 (33:35):
Friend told me about these places. I'm noticing a trend.

Cliff and.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
We're brought to you by DNM Auto Leasing. Markets are
not reacting well to Trump's tariffs. Today is the deadline
for registering to vote in elections next month, and on
this day in eighteen sixty, the Pony Express debuted at
the Latest News Anytime at KTRH dot com. Our next
update is at six o'clock.

Speaker 9 (34:28):
Fifty nine.

Speaker 23 (34:28):
Inbound at the loop is always a.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Problem KTRH time saving traffic. Next on the ten.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Live fifty two is our time here in Houston's morning news.
Right Trump's six point plan for making America read again.
It's an American thinker, And interestingly enough, the first thing
they start with is what happened yesterday on Liberation Day,
the tariffs and sending a quote unquote wake up call
to Europe, which with a twenty percent tariff. I guess
they got their wake up calls. Stephen Helgeson joins US

(34:59):
former and bass and writer, Welcome on board, SIRT. Do
you think that was intended to be a wake up
call for Europe?

Speaker 8 (35:06):
Absolutely, and good morning Houston. It was a big wake
up called. The newspapers, the television. Everyone over here in Denmark,
where I'm living now is talking about it and worried
about it, wringing their hands and wondering what to do next.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Well, how about they just dropped the twenty drop their
own tariffs because these are reciprocal. We're only doing you
at twenty percent because Europe taxes so many of our things,
tariffs so many of our things at very high rates.

Speaker 9 (35:32):
You're absolutely right.

Speaker 8 (35:34):
For decades, we've been trying, through the US Trade Representative's
office and through other means to convince the Europeans to
drop their tariffs, lower them anyway on such essentral items
such as automobiles. As an example, the Europeans applied to
ten percent tariff on American made automobiles coming into Europe,

(35:55):
while we in the United States only applied a two
and a half percent tariff. That's just one out of
many items or categories that are in dispute right now.
And the real question is how is Europe going to react.
Are they simply going to go tit for tat and
have another round of reciprocal tariff wars or are they

(36:15):
going to say, well, you know, we'll think about this
and maybe we need to make some adjustments. I'm hoping
it's the latter, but it is part of, in my view,
a six point planned by the President to make sure
that we're a little more respected overseas when it comes
to trade, and use some of that money to help
bring it back to the United States in the form
of investments from overseas American based rather American companies based

(36:39):
overseas back to the United States again.

Speaker 9 (36:41):
I'm hopeful.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Another big part of what the President wants to do
has to do with energy and our reliance on foreign
nations for energy. I think, do you take it overall
theme of what President Trump seems to want to do
right now, it's about making America self reliant again.

Speaker 9 (36:58):
Absolutely.

Speaker 8 (36:59):
I mean, if we're not self reliant and energy, and
Texas Texas knows this. If we're not self reliant on energy,
we're relying on everybody else. We cannot be in that position.
Neither can we be in that position when it comes
to manufacturing. We've allowed our manufacturing sector to be exported
over to China as the number one source. When it

(37:20):
comes to small run contract manufacturing, We've got to bring
those companies back to the US of A. But energy
is the one underlying expense that fuels no pun intended
every other price rise. So once we get that stabilized
and can start improving our electric grid a little bit better,
we can think in the future about some alternative forms

(37:43):
of energy. But fossil fuels are a necessity right now.

Speaker 10 (37:46):
You think that's on the President's agenda.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
By the way, I know this piece of American thinker
thinks that eventually that's what President Trump wants to do.
He wants to do a major upgrade to the country's infrastructure,
but he has all these other things he needs to
put into place first.

Speaker 8 (38:00):
Well, we have to do many things at once. And
one of the things that the President I believe wants
to do is reversed that terrible order executive order that
Joe Biden signed the first day in office, the deep
sixing the Keystone Pipeline.

Speaker 9 (38:16):
We have a big country.

Speaker 8 (38:18):
It runs on energy, and without the energy that is
supplied by our own domestic sources and from some foreign sources,
we're in trouble. We're totally dependent on everyone else. Look
at Europe and being totally or partially at least dependent
on the former Soviet unions apply to supply natural gas

(38:38):
to some customers in Western Europe.

Speaker 9 (38:41):
That can't be our future.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Yeah, one thing I was really surprised by on these terraffs. Obviously,
he puts big tariffs on the worst defenders. Some of
the worst defenders are supposedly our friends in allies Japan.
He had to put a twenty four percent tariff on
Japanese products Taiwan. I mean, where would Taiwan be without
the United States and we had to put a thirty
two percent there upon them.

Speaker 9 (39:03):
You're absolutely right, that defies description.

Speaker 8 (39:07):
In my opinion, Taiwan is a very important ally really
to the United States when it comes to the production
of semiconductor chips. Without the semiconductor companies or excuse me,
manufacturing fabs as they call them in Taiwan, we'd be
up the creek without a paddle when it comes to
computers and the next generation of electronic devices. So Taiwan

(39:32):
is critical. And our friendship with Japan goes back to
post War Japan, and we've helped the Japanese as they've
helped us throughout the past. The Japanese have really done
an awful lot to increase their investment in the United States,
especially in terms of producing automobiles of Japanese labels you

(39:56):
could say Honda, Toyota, etc. In the US of A.

Speaker 9 (40:00):
Yeah, as Goofy's description, I will give you that.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
All right, the ambassador, thanks for joining us today. Sure
to appreciate it.

Speaker 9 (40:07):
Thank you, and God blessed. Take care.

Here's Cliff Saunders, Thank.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
You, Jimmy. Good morning everybody. Our top story in six
z oh two.

Speaker 6 (42:00):
This is one of the most important days, in my opinion,
in American history.

Speaker 5 (42:05):
Another promise fulfilled as President Trump implements tariffs.

Speaker 6 (42:09):
For years, hard working American citizens were forced to sit
on the sidelines as other nations got rich and powerful,
much of it at our expense. But now it's our
turn to prosper.

Speaker 5 (42:20):
The EU gets it with a twenty percent tariff. China
gets it with a thirty four percent tariff. The markets
don't like any of this. Down futures are down twelve
hundred and seventy points. While the mainstream media and the
left continue to blast Trump for this, they're actually key
parts of the America First agenda that got Trump elected
last November.

Speaker 8 (42:40):
Through the efforts of Elon Moss, downsizing and making more
effective the US government. He's hoping to channel that into
enough money to give the average American a tax cut.

Speaker 5 (42:53):
Former US diplomat Stephen Hilgison says putting tax dollars back
in our pockets and balancing our economic relationship with Europe
says tariffs will set America up for long term economic success.
Trump isn't finding just opposition from Democrats. There are Republican senators.
The usual suspect Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell all

(43:14):
signed onto a resolution by Democrats to undo tariffs on Canada.

Speaker 11 (43:19):
Six zero four.

Speaker 5 (43:20):
Vice President j D Vance's warnings about European democracy come true.
France bans the conservative leading election polls the kind of
law fair we saw used against Trump.

Speaker 38 (43:31):
Marien Lepenn was found guilty of embezzlement as she runs
against Macron.

Speaker 10 (43:35):
But the timing's interesting.

Speaker 13 (43:36):
He's get around for a long time and to all
of a sudden pick this moment. It does remind you
a little bit of what they did to Trump.

Speaker 38 (43:44):
Sylvio Kanto, Junior of The American Thinker says this lawfair
will create more division, and it puts on full display
just how far gone Europe is now.

Speaker 13 (43:53):
I'd be very worried about the political stability of my country,
and I think the French democracy will suffer a serious blow.

Speaker 10 (44:02):
He says.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
The federal judge behind blocking President Trump's deportation flights to
El Salvador speaks publicly for the first time at the
American Bar Association. Judge James Bosberg avoided the topic completely.
This comes as the Senate holds a hearing on Bosberg
and the other rogue judges trying to block Trump's agenda.
Texas Senator Ted Kruse says the left is simply judge shopping.

Speaker 14 (44:31):
They are forum shopping like crazy. Give me any loon
judge put on the bench by Obama or Biden.

Speaker 5 (44:37):
There's also a resolution in the House introduced by Arizona's
Andy Biggs to fire Boseburg. A hearing in the House
yesterday focused on the weaponized FBI during the Biden years,
something Texas Democrat Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett does not want to
talk about.

Speaker 15 (44:54):
Maybe we can move on, Maybe we can move into
the president because it seems like we are living in
the past.

Speaker 5 (44:59):
Yeah, you know, the where's Let's just forget the four
indictments and the conviction against Trump?

Speaker 10 (45:04):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (45:05):
Democrats response to Trump's second term so far has been
to attack and protest, with Bernie Sanders and AOC taking
on the starring roles. Public News founder Michael Schellenberger tells
Fox the Dems are in dire need of a new leader.

Speaker 17 (45:20):
Probably needs some Democrat candidate who doesn't look like traditional Democrats,
but who actually is building from the moderate majority outward
rather than from this radical left Democrat base that finds
itself engaging in nihilistic acts of terrorism.

Speaker 5 (45:35):
A new poll shows more than half of Democrat voters
believe their current leadership is taking the party in the.

Speaker 11 (45:40):
Wrong direction six so six.

Speaker 5 (45:42):
Oil prices are dropping this morning almost at five percent,
trading under sixty nine dollars a barrel. But here's something
the mainstream media isn't telling you. Oil and gas sales
under Trump are generating millions for the country.

Speaker 40 (45:56):
The number is about forty million dollars in revenue for
the federal government so far.

Speaker 19 (45:59):
The under the Biden administration, the oil and gas industry
was not welcome in the White House. And finally we
have a president who's focused on energy dominance.

Speaker 40 (46:08):
President and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute Mike Summer
says energy demand isn't slowing down, and AI has increased
it even more.

Speaker 19 (46:15):
We're gonna need all of these sources for energy of
the future. America needs more energy because we have to
fuel that AI revolution.

Speaker 10 (47:26):
Six eight?

Speaker 3 (47:27):
Our time here in Houston's morning news. See, here's the
thing I love about talking about food. We all love food,
and we particularly love steak and barbecue. We could probably
do entire shows on steak and barbecue alone, right? Who
has the best? And I was reading off a list
of America's favorite steakhouses, the Chain ones and number one
on the on the Chain list, well, number four shocked

(47:49):
me a little Golden Corral. I don't think of quality
as much as I think of quantity when you talk
about Golden Corral, but out Back was number one, Texas
Roadhouse is number two. I mean we're talking about two
different types of steakhouses. Though there's the there's the chain
steakhouse or the more you know, the more casual dining experience,
and then there's like Papa Steakhouse and and Perry Steakhouse.

(48:12):
In Taste of Texas, you know that we have here.
We have so many great steakhouses that are you know
that that served great quality, higher end food. So my
question was, what's your favorite Houston steakhouse and what's your
favorite chain? If you want to take that onto your
favorite chain steakhouse or maybe just your maybe a chain
is your favorite steakhouse, and if you can think of

Right The trump tariffs going to Effect april fifth And
april to. Ninth The april ninth terraffs are the big
ones on the worst. Defenders for, example you've GOT i
saw a whole list. Here what DID i do with that? List,
laos interestingly, enough got the highest. Terraffs what do we
import From? Laos forty eight? Percent But European union twenty?

(54:28):
Percent for. Example here's the other thing to think about,
here he's actually put. Tariffs these tariffs that he's putting
on these countries is not nearly as much as the
terriffs they put on. Us in, fact it looks like
they almost use like a fifty percent. Formula fifty percent
of whatever their tariffs against us, were we. Did we
took fifty percent of that to put a tariff on.
Them Here's President trump yesterday announcing his.

Speaker 6 (54:50):
Tariffs for, decades The United states slash trade barriers or other,
countries will those nations placed massive tariffs on our? Products
and create outrageous non monetary barriers to decimate our. Industries
and in many cases the non monetary barriers were worse
than the monetary. Ones they manipulated their, currencies subsidized their,

(55:13):
exports stole our intellectual, property imposed exorbitant vat taxes to
disadvantage our, products adopted unfair rules and technical, standards and
created filthy pollution. Havens they were absolutely, filthy but they
always came to us and they, said we're.

Speaker 23 (55:32):
Violating we should pay for.

Speaker 6 (55:34):
It it's all detailed in a very big report by
THE Us Trade representative on foreign trade, barriers And i'll
just hold it up for. You it's, available and you
don't have to pay too. Much AS i understand, it
you'll pay. Nothing it's a lot of, work a lot
of work for, something, actually because it's a special it's
a special. Book it's very, frankly it's very upsetting when

(55:58):
you read, it when you see what people have been
doing to us for thirty.

Speaker 23 (56:01):
Years this all happened with.

Speaker 6 (56:03):
No response from The United states Of, america none. Whatsoever
but those days are. Over let me offer just a
few examples of the vicious attacks workers.

Speaker 23 (56:14):
Have faced for so many.

Speaker 6 (56:16):
Years The United states charges of the countries only a
two point four tariff on. Motorcycles, Meanwhile thailand and others
are charging much higher, prices like sixty. Percent india charges seventy,
Percent vietnam charges seventy five, percent and others.

Speaker 23 (56:35):
Are even higher than.

Speaker 6 (56:36):
That, likewise until, today The United states has for decades
charged a two point five. Tariff think of that two
point five percent on foreign made. Automobiles The European union
CHARGES us more than ten percent, tariffs and they have
twenty percent vats much much. Higher india charges seventy percent

(56:59):
Per perhaps worst of all are the non monetary restrictions
imposed By South, korea In japan and very many other.
Nations as a result of these colossal trade, barriers eighty
one percent of the cars In south carea made In South.
Korea ninety four percent of the cars In japan are
made In. Japan toyota sales one million foreign made automobiles

(57:24):
into The United, states And General motor sells almost. None
ford sells very. Little none of our companies are allowed
to go into other.

Speaker 23 (57:33):
Countries AND i say that friend and.

Speaker 6 (57:35):
Foe and in many cases the friend is worse than the.

Speaker 23 (57:38):
Foe in terms of.

Speaker 6 (57:40):
Trade but such horrendous imbalances have devastated our industrial base
and put our national security at. RISK i don't blame
these other countries at all for this. CALAMITY i blame
former presidents and past leaders who weren't doing their. Job
they let it, happen and they let it happen to
an extent that nobody can even.

Speaker 23 (57:59):
Believe that's, why effective.

Speaker 6 (58:01):
At, midnight we will impose the twenty five percent tariff
for all foreign made.

Speaker 3 (58:06):
Automobiles, yeah well it's not just. Cars there's we tariffs

as he, said some of the worst defenders are our
supposed adline, allies The European. Union we're imposing a twenty
percent tariff on them because of the tariffs that they
have put on. Us taiwan thirty two percent tarraf because

that's that's a real safety do in the city To.
Houston ride your, bike you, know bike lanes are supposed

is relieving traffic, congestion and he sees that as a
bigger problem than the width of the sidewalk for you
to walk. On SO i congratulate him. ALL i believe

In, the texas house.

Speaker 24 (01:51:24):
YEAH well we are i think our forty, list of
priority bills our top priorities of the voters, ask us.
To pass we've passed we're. In the mid thirties now
we'll have them all completed in the. Next week or
so we've passed now close to one hundred. AND eighty
five Bills i think the. House has Passed two so
obviously i'm. Concerned about the clock, nine weeks to go,

(01:51:46):
and that's nine weeks but it's not. A lot of
days and some bills take you six seven hours on The,
floor in the house so a lot of. Bills could possibly,
die but, so far So, Far The, new speaker dustin
burgh has made commitments to pass school choice and other key,
bills like bail reform because we need to keep murderers

(01:52:06):
Off The. Street in harris, county, do you realize guys that,
we have our team that, we have sixteen hundred over
sixteen hundred murder cases Waiting For, trial in harris county
and eight hundred of those people who have been accused
of that are, out, on, the streets murder. Rape child
sex offenders so these are big issues that we Have

to tackle and i'm trusting the, speaker will come through
but he's got nine. Weeks.

Speaker 3 (01:52:33):
TO prove up yeah i want to ASK you about
THE thc issue because i got there are some people
who think that you're just completely one hundred percent against
medical marijuana or anything that can relieve veteran stress or
pain or. Those types OF things what did i got
the Impression From talking to steve toth yesterday that that's
not really where. You stand on this you have. A

(01:52:54):
very specific concern can you share?

Speaker 9 (01:52:56):
That?

Concern, with us.

number one we're GOING to, expand the cup program which
is compassionate USE, for veterans with ptsd cancer patients and children.
With the various diseases so we're going. To expand that program,
But here's the danger and you saw the Story. This
week in houston A fifteen year old i, believe he

(01:53:19):
was fifteen got a hold of some gummies that were
sold from a smoke shop and shot and killed his mother.
BECAUSE he lost control i want all the parents listening
in grandparents to understand something they don't, realize what's going
on and to give you put this. In respective really
fast we have about Eleven hundred McDonald's in texas And.
About thirteen hundred starbucks you feel. Like that's a lot.

(01:53:40):
You see him everywhere we have over eight thousand smoke
shops that have opened in. The last three years and,
where have They Opened as, the houston chronicles showed anywhere
from within a thousand to two. Thousand feet of schools
because anyone can buy this poison under twenty one and
all these shops just they took advantage of A loophole
in the hemp bill and its synthetic cannabis that is

(01:54:02):
three four five times stronger than what you could buy
from a drug, dealer on the street and. Kids are
buying it, We've had superintendents testify. We've had doctors testify
Our Calls of THE poison center on thc are up

(01:54:25):
paranoia this is dangerous poison that's being. Sold just consider
this these eight thousand shops or more have opened, the
last three years. All near our schools what do you?
Think their market is and so we're going to ban
it because it's pure poison and you've got to watch
out for what. Your kids are buying it's, in our
schools everywhere, and it's a serious serious. Health risk for.

Speaker 3 (01:54:47):
Everyone rather, than, banning the product though why don't we
just take more measures to make sure the kids can
get their? Hands, on this stuff well.

Speaker 24 (01:54:54):
You, can do, that well you know kids aren't supposed
to buy, liquor and cigarettes, either but you know some
managed to find a, way to get it and sometimes
people over twenty one bit and. Give it to kids
now we're talking about, a different product here we're talking
about no one knows. What's in these gummanies no. One
knows what's it there's there's nothing on there to indicate
and and what is in There, that comes From, china

(01:55:16):
comes from mexico. Come from drug labs you don't. Know
what's in there you're putting. Your, life at risk again
look at. This fifteen year old he had a couple
of gummies and. He killed his mother and so we
have to this is not. Something you can regulate it's
illegal now And it needs to we. Need to ban it.
You CAN'T regulate it and i want To Hats off

(01:55:37):
to specs liquor because they were selling SOME drinks that.
Had thc in them they've taken. Them off the shelf
and restaurants have told us from their association that some
restaurants WERE. Selling drinks with thc they're not any longer.
Doing it for, most for the most most of them
have taken them out off the menu because they were
losing control of. Customers after two, drinks this is potent,

(01:55:59):
powerful stuff and again serious. Serious health effects IT and
again when i say, that in three years eight thousand
shops have opened up near our schools selling this poison
that no one, knows what it is and it's an.
Eight billion dollar business That tells you it's it is,
targeted to kids primarily and. It's it's life altering some

(01:56:22):
of these kids will never recover. From The, Mental illness
is gunner let.

Speaker 3 (01:56:26):
Me quickly ask you because we're, Almost, out of time
kert did you? Anticipate a special session what would trigger
in your? Mind, a special session well we've got.

Speaker 24 (01:56:34):
To pass bail reform we can't let these murders and
rapists and child defenders. Out on the street we passed
it three Times out of the Senate's. Ever Passed the
house the speaker says he'll pass a. Strong bail. Reform
bill that's key we've got to get, thc off the street.
Not poison. Our kids that's key if those, two things
don't pass that could trigger a. Special session for sure
but property tax relief is. Our NUMBER one issue when,
i became lieutenant governor your homestead. EXEMPTION was fifteen thousand

(01:56:57):
i raise it. To one. Hundred thousand this year we
won already pass The bill in the senate to raise one.
Hundred and forty thousand and while property, taxes are you
know we got we have to look. At the, local
side you, know we don't control, for the. Most part.
County governments we don't we don't control all these bond
issues that. That people vote on but we do control
what we can. Do on school taxes so we have.

(01:57:18):
Reduced everyone's, school taxes you know some people look at,
their appraisal and. Say, my appraisals up well the appraisal
does not impact. Your tax bill anymore because we've. We've
broken that away we did. That in TWENTY nineteen SO
everyone's m and o school taxes about forty, percent of
their bill is down forty one percent. And by this
session by the, end of this session it'll. Be down fifty,
percent and for seniors if, we get our way it

(01:57:40):
will be. Pretty much. TOTALLY gone for seniors i want
to raise the homestay exemption for seniors. To two hundred
thousand I'm working with the speaker on that jointly and one.
Hundred and forty thousand raise it two hundred and forty.
Thousand for everyone else we want to WIPE out your,
am ando school taxes which are about thirty five to
forty percent of. Your Property, Tax bill.

Speaker 3 (01:57:57):
Rice serf, we're out of, time but thank you as.
Always for your time. We do appreciate it you.
