Good morning, everyone, and welcome to the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross Gordy filling in.

Speaker 4 (00:16):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Niche llongs and a walker gets a ball stripped at
midcourt by a men Thompson, uncontested for a two ham jam.
The steal, the put back and the Rockets have put
together a nice run here lead forty to thirty five,
down a seventh, down to six, Easton giving it back
to Smith. Back out towards min court. Friend's got three,
it's got Two's gonna try a thirty five footer.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
It is up and it's on the lay and end.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
As the buzzer goes off a full twenty four off
the clock. Rockets up by six at forty three thirty
seven at the right elbow poked away by men Thompson
and he steals it with forty seconds left. A man
one on one of the window goes up its scores
to tighter game. The steal runs down the floor, even

(00:59):
up one two family bounce past Shangoon at the free
throw line one on one against Colbert god It circle
throws it up over his right shoulder and puts it
in for two. A huge layup for Alba and Shan Goon,
who has eighteen second points.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Time out Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
There's a free throw jumper, made basket up and good
for Demogram, but it won't not matter. Rockets win it
one seventeen, one eleven in overtime and pick up their
thirteenth one of the season. They are undefeated in Group A.
They win that division and it's on the next round

(01:39):
of the NBA in season Emirates NBA Cup Cordian, I'm
already making a plan for Vegas, maybe one step at
a time, and I'm taking two steps.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
That was a lot of fun last night the multi
TV going on. I had the Koogs on one h
Hockets on the other. I like the spread. Pull up
by heart and listen to the Matt Thomas call.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about. Hey,
you gotta help me out because I was watching the
rocket You know, I was calling the Rockets game. All
my Cougar brethren are bitching them on about college officiating.
Wake me up.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
When a college officiating isn't a problem.

Speaker 5 (02:17):
Well, you know, look, put it this way, the Kugs
are undefeated against anyone not from an SEC.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Come on, I knew that was coming. What is it
wrong with you? I know you're a honk for SEC football?
Are you a hunk for SEC baseball? Taer? I mean
basketball team?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
They've gotten pretty good, man, there's some pretty good powers. There.
No shame in those two losses to the Koks.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Well, I want to win them, though, I mean I don't.
I don't want. I don't mind beating up on you know,
Hofstra and god knows who else we play the rest
of the way, but I want to beat a good one.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
Nobody is more punishable than uh old. What what's NATO's?
Oh my god? That guy.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Biggest d bag in sports?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Is that right?

Speaker 6 (03:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (03:00):
I remember last year when they beat the Koogs, he
went out to put it like when Kelson Stampson was
losing his crap on the on the refs and Natos
goes to mid court and puts his hand out. He's like, oh,
where are you You're supposed to shake my hand my
d bag?

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, you know what. I'm so happy you still have
hatred for Alabama no matter what it is. One we
probably hate their gymnastics team. Too, don't you.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yep? Softball they all suck.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Cross country sucks. All right, we have a super busy
show today and we I'm I'm in Philadelphia by the way,
a little sleep deprived, but the energy is still good.
You know what's sad about Michael Jackson it I mean,
what would you put him on the upper echelon of

(03:44):
just performers of alt I mean, like one of the
five greatest we were in our lifetime? Is that, Gordy?
Is that fair to say?

Speaker 7 (03:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (03:49):
We were talking about that recently, about how much Taylor
Swift was making. Like if Michael Jackson were still alive, yeah,
and he were doing a world tour, I think he'd
be making maybe not as much as Taylor, but it
would be somewhere in that on that spectrum.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
And the worst part of it is he had such
a terrible life, and I mean the inappropriateness of a
lot of his life and the relationships and granted he
had a lot of family issues or whatnot. But I
can do this, and maybe I shouldn't do this, but
I can separate his warped personal life from his professional
singing career, and I could listen to Michael Jackson all

(04:24):
day long.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
By the way, I think it was yesterday was the
anniversary of the Dangerous album coming out and Adam Clinton
that it was the first album he ever bought.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
What was your first album you ever bought?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
TLC Crazy Sexy Cool m.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
That same for me, that's the first time I bought
you don't believe me?

Speaker 2 (04:42):
The Waterfalls great hit?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah, Actually, you know the first album I ever bought
was probably Chicago sixteen.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
What did that have?

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Hard Habit to Break? You're the inspiration?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Inspiration's a going That's a good song. All right, Gordy,
we have an action packed. We have your friend Brian
Billick's gonna join us at eleven o'clock today. Maybe he's
gonna help his diagnose what's going wrong with the Houston Texans.
We got shut your bum ass up at eleven thirty.
We have the News at noon today, which probably since
you're doing it, probably nothing but sec headlines. Uh, twelve

(05:16):
thirty e may a Dog is going to join us
doctor Roto for half an hour. At one o'clock. We
have the Rotten Five at one thirty, believe it or not.
At one fifty today and by the way, uh, you're
gonna have to help me out because you are mister
a sec and that's why we love you.

Speaker 6 (05:29):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Have you made a prediction yet on the A and
M Texas game for Saturday night?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Not official prediction yet?

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Would you have an unofficial prediction?

Speaker 2 (05:37):
I kind of shared some thoughts with the Salisbury show.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Oh oh, were they mad at you?

Speaker 8 (05:41):
No?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Okay, let me ask you this. You know my family
is all Aggie all all the way through, except Mike Cameron,
who hates the Aggies but because he does just to
piss his brother off. Can the Aggies win this game?

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Absolutely? Really they are.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
I would make a case they are more battle tested.
Oh what the ands they've played? Then the week ass
soft schedule that that Texas got.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Okay, all right, now, are you gonna make a prediction
with us? So you're gonna save it for another show?

Speaker 9 (06:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (06:09):
No, I'll make it here.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Okay, very good. We are with you today. If you
watch the Rockets or listen to it and want to
brag about the local basketball team, we are going to
the knockout round of the tournaments. Not Vegas yet, but
you go to the quarterfinals. The Rockets will be no
worse than a two seed. For that knockout run. I
think because of what the Phoenix Suns did the Lakers
last night. So there will be a home game at

(06:30):
least next week in the knockout round. Actually, when the
Rockets get back from the West Coast trip, and then
after that, if they win the knockout game, they'll go
to Vegas. And that's where I think, Gordion, I mean,
I know we have iHeart as a large budgeting. I
think the entire staff should go do a whole couple
of days, three days of shows in Vegas.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Wait, so explain this to me. They're not set for
Vegas yet. They still have to play another home game.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
They have to play another knockout game, and I believe
it's gonna be.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
A home What does knockout game mean?

Speaker 3 (06:56):
All right? So you have six groups, right, of five
teams East, three in the West. Yes, each of the
group winners advances, and then the next best record in
that conference.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
There's four teams per conference.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Okay, yeah, kind of I'm following you.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
What one place for two plays three what they call
the knockout game. What happen you will in that knockout game?
You'll then play the other semi final game in Las Vegas. Okay,
and if you win that game, you play for the
final in Las Vegas.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
What if you win the knockout game.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
You're going to Vegas. If you lose a knockout game,
you're just gonna play one more game against somebody else.
But it will be it will be in Vegascha selfishly,
Viva Las Vegas, baby, That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
Yeah, when you have to take five minutes to explain
this thing, I don't know if the NBA.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Oh, it's not that difficult.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Oh, by the way, speaking of that, why don't you
explain the NCAA the football college football rankings yesterday and.

Speaker 5 (07:56):
Now, Yeah, I'll do it very simply. They are doing
whatever the hell they want in that come h.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Right, we're'na come back and talking about that. Rockets on
the chatter in CAA. The football rankings are out from
yesterday seven one three, two one two five seven ninety's
how you reach the show to if you want to
get in seven one three two one two five seven
Anti Texas in a practice fiel getting ready for Jacksonville.
Brian Billick's going to talk some Texans with us coming
up in about forty five minutes.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Ross today is in uh Columbia and Gordy is falling
in for him today with us, and he'll be with
us till two o'clock. We want you guys with us
as well, and ladies until two o'clock as well. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety ten thirteen
on Sports Talk seven ninety or Matt Thomas.

Speaker 10 (08:38):
Now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Ten, nineteen Sports Talk seven Auntie, Matt Thomas with you
from Philadelphia. Gordy is in our Houston studios. Connor mcgoverny
is the producer of the radio program Today. He'll have
the Rotten five fourst coming up in a couple of
hours from now. We want you with us all throughout
the show, whether you're just listening, driving around, going to
get your last second Thanksgiving items and and you can

(09:05):
join us on the phones. It's seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven Annie. A lot of you are off
this week and don't normally get a chance to call
the show. If you are in one of those spots,
I want to come say hi. You are more than
welcome to do that again. It's seven to one three
two one two five seven. Auntie Gordy, real quick before
we get back to sports, a matting one thing to
my Thanksgiving food for tomorrow. I uh, I've never had

(09:27):
cranberry until like the last couple of years. I kind
of like it. I wouldn't eat it every day, but
the mix with the turkey and stuff, I can do it.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Like the cranberry sauce thing. Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm I'm
out on that.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
It adds a little sweetness to it. It's not again,
I wouldn't sit there and have a bowl of cranberry.
Oh this is the most delicious thing of all time.
But it's not bad.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yeah, I'm a little I'm I'm more traditional.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
Give me the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, macaroni whatever.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Too many carbs, Gordon, we got to back off the
carp a little bit. Yeah, I have a no green
policy on Thanksgiving. What I mean, no green bean cast role, Well,
just no greens at all. You're green free, you're car
blow ding. You know what. Tomorrow's a car bloading day.
Just knock it out. Seven one three two point two
five seven ninety. So the Rockets won last night my

(10:17):
Cougars fell. And I don't know if you guys know this,
but the Cougars are playing what they call, I think
it's called the Players Era Tournament. Yeah, and this is
where the players go and they get money just for
playing in this thing. And it looked like to me
the photos I took I saw of it, the bottom

(10:38):
of the arena was not even full. They didn't even
they didn't even open the upper deck.

Speaker 7 (10:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
I mean, that's the weird thing that I've been trying
to wrap my head around for years. And this is
the same thing with bowl games. They have these Bowl
games and there's like five fans in the stands. Yes,
they don't care. They get their money from the TV contracts,
so ESPN writes a check and you know for whatever
it is, the Goodyear Cotton Bowl or whatever, right, right,
They don't care about ticket sales. So it seems like

(11:05):
the same thing with these basketball tournaments. They sold the
rights to TBS and TNT and they got paid. They
don't care people, But how.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Much did they really spend. I mean, no disrespect to
college basketball, but I feel like I'm gonna disrespect him. Look,
the NBA can't even get on people's radars right now.
How the hell is college basketing will be got on the
radar at this point?

Speaker 5 (11:25):
I mean there were Look, everybody I saw on Twitter
last night were watching these games.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
So okay, well, you know what if TNT and TBS
have this money to spend, God love them, that's good.
I think the Cougar's played tonight at eleven thirty. Oh,
I'll be just getting back from Philadelphia be able to
watch the second half.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Will they play unc Ano?

Speaker 3 (11:47):
They're playing Notre Dame. Okay, But bottom line is this
is that And I don't know how this financing works out.
Before anybody claims a dollar off this bad boy, you
gotta pay these teams between a half million and a
million bucks. And I know this is a sense of
subject for you because your school did not pay enough
of that Michigan quarterback to come back to Matt Rouge.

Speaker 5 (12:09):
After all, Well, I felt a little bit better yesterday.
Did you see the video that Portnoy put out. No, basically,
this is the justify I win. Portnoy said, I will
pay a couple of million to get a kid here,
And he basically said he got a phone call from
a big Michigan person who said, let me put you
in touch with this woman.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Yes, he talks to this woman.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
She happens to be the wife of Larry Ellison, the
CEO of Oracle, who apparently is the second richest person
in the world. Yes, she said, you know, I was
looking for somebody to put up some money with me.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
My husband's in.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
The three of them get on a call and decide
we're going to put up this money together. Then they
themselves get on a call with Bryce Underwood and his parents.
Nowhere in here was Sharon more involved the Ada of Michigan.
Nobody from Michigan was involved in this. This was just
a rich billionaire deciding to write a check for his.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Wife's not even a Well, you know, they can't be
involved directly. They can, they can kind of pass along
to the collective, but they can't. You can't have a
coach on a call talking about a free agent contract.

Speaker 5 (13:10):
Well they kind of can now because the revenue sharing
is about to start where the school can literally share
the revenue with the players, so they can very soon.
Oh I just don't like I mean, this just becomes
the haves and the have nots.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
Yeah, when did that change?

Speaker 11 (13:26):
Did?

Speaker 3 (13:26):
When did the have nots ever become a have.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
Well because you know, it used to be one hundred
dollars handshakes behind closed doors and things like that. But
now you talk about CEOs, a billionaire CEOs can get involved.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
And again we should explain this again and really dumb
it down. The wife of the Oracle leader is a
Michigan fan. She's the one that's helping Portnoy cut the
check for this kid in Detroit to stay at Michigan.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
And by the way, he Portnoy said, he asked her
when she was at Michigan. She said, when Brady Hoak
was the coach, that was a deck So this is
she is much younger than Larry Ellison.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Well that come as any surprise, I mean please.

Speaker 5 (14:06):
She Her whole reasoning was they loved that Michigan won
the national championship, and she's like, I can't stand not
being the best team in the country. So that's what
kind of sucks about this. I rooted for Michigan to
win that championship over Washington. I wish Washington had won
because it's because they won that they had that little
taste of success and won the title that they that
they went overboard and they're like, let's spend money.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
But let me ask you this, because the deal for
LSU was ten and a half million dollars, right, who's
paying that from LSU?

Speaker 5 (14:34):
It's I mean they have the collectives and all this stuff.
But like they they did it the quote unquote right
way right, Like they invested the three years in the
courting this kid. The kid last week was wearing an
LSU chain saying, I don't care that they just lost
to Florida. I am firm in my commitment to LSU.
But what do you do when a billionaire calls you
and goes, we want to give you and your family
the most money you've ever had.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
You got to take it.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
I don't blame the.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Kid, no, of course. I mean twelve million dollars to
go to a better school and stay home.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
And the twelve million is what they're given publicly, not
like I've been told behind closed doors. They've told the
family will take care of you whatever you want, We'll
get your house, like all that kind of stuff is
being done behind the scenes. So it's the twelve million
is what he's gonna make over the four years. They're
gonna get way more than that.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
In Oh, we're suppos and we're supposed to still love
college athletics. Is that what you're telling me?

Speaker 5 (15:21):
Well, I mean, look for for the last decade plus,
this this sport has gone from making millions to making billions.
And it's these guys sitting up in their ivory towers
keep pocketing all the money while the kids don't make anything.
So I'm fine with the kids making money. It's just
it's turned it into a business now.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
It is so yeah. There and the question I have,
and I'm speaking of behalf of most of college football fans,
how's my school going to stay with this?

Speaker 7 (15:46):
Now?

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Granted, we did fire our offensive coordinator yesterday.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
And we paid out seven or fifty thousand dollars the guy,
and that came from a private donation. So somebody just
cut a check at you of age for seven to fifty.
Whoever that is, call in and give yourself credit. You
you helped us out, I think.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
I mean, the good news is at least you've got Tillman,
You've got Mattress, Mac, You've got You've got some folks.
What does Tulsa do? You know, Like, what does Toledo do?
Like they're screwed? You can't compete.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Well, how about I mean most of the Power fives.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
I mean it does. Let me give you an example,
does uh who would be a Power five that would
be Does Missouri have that kind of cash? Does Wisconsin
have that kind of I mean, I don't know. I
mean we don't mean they're finding ways to do it,
but it's just crazy how much is just being spent
in this year for nil and collectives and buying outs

(16:36):
and that kid from Detroit now staying in Detroit for
an extra couple of millions.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
Well, that's why I brought Brian Kelly made a statement
a few weeks ago where he was like, look, at
the end of the day, we still have to talk
about football here, Like we still have to say we're
gonna get you to the league, we're gonna develop you.
Like that still has to be part of the conversation
outside of.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
What he Pailey, Yeah, well, I don't know if they're
not really worried about it at this point seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero. We will get
a perspective of a former NFL coach, Brian Billick on
what he is seeing right now with the Houston Texans
and their struggles over the last handful of weeks. That's
coming up in one half hour. Rockets with a very

(17:13):
nice win last night, Cougar's Drop one. And when we return, Gordy,

that is and how much he's getting. As the Matt

busy show with lots of guests and lots of fun
stuff between now and at two o'clock this afternoon. We

(18:41):

O'Brian Billick of the Rotten Five and at Doctor row
in the one o'clock hour seven one three, two, one
two five seven ninety. Congratulations Gordy blank Snell is staying
in the National League West.

Speaker 5 (18:56):
It's about time something good happen for the Dodgers, you know,
I mean, they just been through it.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
You know that the grind of you know.

Speaker 5 (19:03):
Having to get shado a Tani and then having figure
out the financial so of how to defer that money
for years later. I mean, that took a lot of
time to figure all that out. So I'm just happy
something could happen for those Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
Yeah, five year deal for Blake Snell to go from
San Francisco to Los Angeles. It is worth one hundred
and eighty two million dollars. I don't even know how
much of that's deferred. I don't particularly care. But if
you defer everything in your life, I mean, Gordy, if
you put everything on layway, don't you eventually get into
some serious trouble in life.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
But they don't care.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
I mean, the report immediately came out after this that
they're still not out of the Wan Sodo sweepstakes. And
if that happens, I mean just going pack it in,
Like what's the If you're the Astros, You're like, what's
the point even playing the season when that team is
already like loading it up with the best players in baseball?

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yeah, all right, So Kacucci goes to the Angels, Blake
Snell goes the Dodgers, which means you ready for your
astro's rotation right this moment, if it was the season
was start today, fromber Hunter, Blanco, Arraghetty, maybe Garcia, maybe
Lance mccollors. You don't get Christian Hove here until middle

(20:12):
of the season, and maybe Orlander and maybe somebody else
we don't know of at this point.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Yeah, I don't know. In the Verlander thing, I don't
know if that's Wiise spending money.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Maybe the Jim Crane golf factor is way bigger than
we thought it would be.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Now the frontut of that rotation is not bad. I mean.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
Fromber Ronel Hunter Brown, I mean that's that's pretty strong.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Yeap.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
Arraghetty came around last year. I mean, you know, as
year one long, he had some really good outings.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
I think we HISSI are gonna see upside with him.
I think he went through typical rookie growing pains in
his first season.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
I think also, don't don't forget JP Frantz. I don't.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
I have not heard a timetable yet on him on
Wedday back, but he'll be back at some point.

Speaker 12 (20:56):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
And then they're really dude, they're really high on Ryan
Gusto Colton Gordon.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
I mean those guys are going to pitch this year.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Yeah, I have a feeling that we're gonna do. I
have to do a lot of homework on this pitching
staff because there's gonna be some names. I mean, somebody
is going to take the next step up that we
don't even know about at this point and then be ready. Yeah,
it's I didn't expect blank Snell to be any sort
of astrosweepstakes. I'm not saying that, but it's just it's
I mean, the Dodgers went from good to great in

(21:28):
their starring rotation.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
This is stupid, Like why could like where are the Reds?
You know, Where's like somebody like that, come get blok Snell.
Like what some of the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Really is The Reds don't care about doing this. The
Reds don't want to go over the luxury threshold. These
teams don't want to do it. They don't have the
money for it.

Speaker 5 (21:44):
Well, the Dodgers are going so far over what I see,
they're like eighty million in the luxury taxs. Like that's insane.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yeah, I don't it it, It don't even know. I
mean there's a huge part of me that wishes there
was a hard cap like there is in the NFL,
because then you'd really give a chance to you'd allow
some teams, your lower market end teams to stay competitive.
But you know who doesn't want that. The owners don't
want that. The Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group. The Yankees

(22:13):
don't want that. For that matter, Jim Crane. Jim Crane
doesn't want the big battling with the Royals and the
Reds and the Pirates for supremacy in baseball. Man are
saying you're gonna have to do that when you're going
against the Yankees and Red Sox and the Cubs and
the Dodgers because they're a big spending teams.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
But that's enough, wouldn't you say?

Speaker 5 (22:28):
Baseball is the one sport Like I feel like majority
of owners in the NFL want to win, and you know,
we've got some some owners that are probably like, yeah,
whatever win or lose, we're still making money. NBA feel
kind of the same way. Baseball feels like it's the
It's the one sport with the most owners that don't
give a damn. They're like, I'm profiting and that's all

(22:49):
I care about.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Well, I would say the As certainly feel that way.
I would because they altern to private despite the fact
that no one went to their games.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
I do believe that the Rays feel that way.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
And by the way, there is some trouble with their
new stadium being backed up a year and the folks
and the Rays in the city at Saint Petersburg are
not getting along on that.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
You know, I can't paint a broad brush on every
team in baseball. I just know that I think Jim
Crane wants to win. Now, There's going to be a
certain threshold and a certain level that he has to
kind of say it. You know, enough's enough in terms
of lengths of contracting dollars. But he has always been
a guy that has been willing to spend. He went
over the threshold this year. I mean again, I could

(23:31):
throw a number one. I mean, do fifteen teams really
give a damn? Or do fifteen teams want to be
profitable in the NFL. Here's the crazy thing about it, Gordy.
If you're the worst run organization in the NFL, what
would that be? Jacksonville? Pretty much close.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Carolina, Carolina.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
You're still making money hand over fist. You can't screw
that up. Your television deals in itself make you gazillions
of dollars every year.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Yeah, that's just the tough part of owning a team.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
You wish every owner would be as die hard and
ardent as as a fan is, but they're just not.
And that's what sucks about it. Is like you almost
wish a fan, you know. That's what's cool about Green Bay,
where the fans can own a stank in the Packers' ownership,
Like you wish everybody was that passionate about your team
being successful. And that's what sucks. It's like, at the
end of the day, it's a business, and a rich

(24:25):
billionaire wants to own your team. He's not committed to winning.
There's no way designed out the deal. There's no commitment
to winning.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
Yeah, but even though you're really rich and you want
to win, doesn't necessarily it's going to translate. I mean,
I think Jerry Jones wants to win. I just think
he just continues to bumble the salary cap and misstep
on drafts and not spend money on free agency. I
believe that Jerry wants to win.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
So how does the rest of the league let this happen?
How do you allow the Dodgers to come in and
create a monopoly and gather all the best players.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
Well, it would then take it would take the other
twelve or thirteen owners that are in the had not
category that had no chance of getting Blake Snail under
any circumstances, saying hey, we've got to do this for
the good of that sport. And the Dodgers and the
and the Yankees are gonna thumb their nose. Those teams say,
you know what, you take your dollars, you make your
you take what we give you, and you like it.
But that's maybe that's to your central point, is that

(25:12):
maybe the owners of those teams are just there to
turn the profit and if they win, it's a it's
a bonus.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Is uh is Snell's agent Boris still.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
I believe it is. Yeah, I don't know. There's Boris
has lost some guys and gained some guys. I know
he gained Hunter Brown, I know he lost Jordan Montgomery.
I don't know if it was if Snell was still
a part of that. But this is the deal that
I think Blake Snell wanted last year that couldn't get it.
And I think Blake Snell basically told whoever's representing, whether
it's Bors or not, we're not waiting till March. We're

(25:41):
gonna get in and get this deal done it right away.

Speaker 5 (25:44):
Yeah, Scott Boris is uh, at least from what I'm reading,
it's still his agents. So does that do anything any
kind of trickle effect here with pregnant.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
No, I think I think it's I think it's we're
gonna figure out where Wan Sutto's going, who spends that
they're overriding thought is that the Boston Red Sox have
tried to get in on some people, and they're kind
of building a reputation for a team that's not going
to spend money, that people are still bent about the
fact that they never opponent up to keep Mookie Betts,
and that maybe they're the ones that will go out
and make a splashy higher before this free agency period

(26:16):
is over with.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
I saw a Red Sox fan this morning on Twitter saying,
you know, there was a reporter it was like, the
Red Sox were in on this guy, and this guy
they're like, well, as long as we were in on them,
you know, we didn't sign anybody, but we had some
really good uh, negotiations.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
There, Like that's like I was in on marrying Scarlett Johansson.

Speaker 4 (26:34):
I mean, I was in on it. I didn't get
to but I was in on it.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
I just look, we want the Astros just to stay
to stay relevant. We still want to keep this proverbial
window open. But man, and just when you look at
what other teams are doing, you start to.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Go, well, I'm saying this before, thank God snails in
the National League. I gotta worry about him just one
series per year and maybe a World Series. Who knows, true,
I just don't want I I don't believe Alex is
coming back to Houston. I just can't fathom him being
a in an American League West period. But if he's
an American League West, that would be doubly bad. And

(27:10):
if he goes to the Yankees, it'd be triply bad.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
And you saw, I'm sure you've seen on social media
that miss Reagan Bregman is pregnant again.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
Well good for her, so.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
Baby number two on the way. Alex definitely not taking
a hometown discount at this point.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
Yeah, but we talked about that earlier this week. Gordy,
who's taking hometown discounts? Anymore. Honestly, Okay, there's one. It's
not a handful. It's on one hand, people are doing
this Lebron. Lebron did it because no Lebron had taken
all the hometown discount.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Talk about he's taking a little bit less than he
could get.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
He's taking a Bronnie discount.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
You bring Barnie to this team to let him compete
with me and play with me a handful of times.
I'll stay with you ten forty two on Sports Talk
seven and it is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
Gordy in today with me Brian Bill. It's gonna join
us in about twenty minutes to get into some Texans conversation.
What did you watch last night? Did you watch the
Cougars game? Now, again, it's hard because college basketball just
doesn't resonate. But I'm curious if anybody that happened to

(28:10):
be flipping around, uh can if you caught that? Did
you see the Rockets last night with their impressive performance
another triple double for Opera and shingoon Gordy, I was
in security line with with Alpi last night and I
said the exact thing I said out, Can you get
us a triple double, and you know what his first
response was to me tonight He went after Rudy Gobert
and it was fun to watch. We'll discuss that and

(28:32):
Brian Billick at the top of the hour Sports Talk
seven unting. It's seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero forty percent off is available for you
right now at Sethe's Fine Jewelry. They're open today, they

Speaker 10 (29:36):
More Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Recording in with me today. I'm here in Philadelphia for
its forty five degrees. It was a twenty five degree
warm up from where we were yesterday in Minneapolis. I
don't know how I did it. I don't know. Great city,
nice people, but too damn cold, brutal, and the Rockets
be the world last night, so that was even better.

(30:05):
All right. That was a playing tournament game, so they
are not playing but a nd season tournament game. So
they'll go on the knockout round and we'll have the
that coming up tonight's Rockets in Philadelphia. We'll have the
launch pad at five five thirty pre game show and
tip time just a little past six o'clock here from Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
All right.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
So, Gordy, we got some interesting college football this weekend.
You were in front of the television last night when
the college football rankings came out. What were your first
blushed thoughts about this?

Speaker 5 (30:34):
This committee has no real set of guidelines for how
they're doing this thing.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
I mean, here's the thing matter.

Speaker 5 (30:42):
It was supposed to be they They said a few
weeks ago that they didn't look at we don't look
at any of the other poles, we don't look at
the AP poll, the coaches poll, none of that. Yet
when they came out with their first batch of rankings,
it was almost identical to the po pole.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
So that's BS two.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
This thing's supposed to change dramatically week to week, and
yet we've seen silly things where a team gets a
win over a top twenty five opponent and doesn't move
up at all the rankings we saw last week where
Alabama beat Mercer and moved up three spots.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
You know, they just they do weird things.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
And then last night Ward and Manual Ward Manual gets
up there it explains basically downplays strength of schedule, as
you know, as as a thing. Last night basically said oh,
we don't you know you can only play who's on
your schedule. You really can't. You can't control that when
literally the committee's checklist, the very first item on their
protocol is strength of schedule.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
That has to matter if you play.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
If you're Georgia and you've played five top twenty five opponents,
that weighs more than Indiana, who's played one top twenty
five opponent and got their butt whooped. Yet they they're not,
they're not changing the rankings because of it. They the
committee actually us at last night, the Committee is sent
one big message, just win. We don't care who you beat,
we don't care, we don't care if you've played nobody good.

(32:00):
Just win because all we're gonna do is reward wins
over losses. And I think that's so stupid because the
college basketball tournament does that do u H. Cougar's just
lost to Auburn and Alabama in college basketball, but at
the end of the year they might be a one
or two seed because they're gonna go give them credit
for playing tough opponents. Yet football is to complete opposite.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
So who's in that room? Do you know who's in
that room? Generally speaking, a bunch of morons. I mean,
are they good? I'm they like ex football coaches administrators
are a bunch of geeks. What's going on in that room?

Speaker 2 (32:28):
I can look it up.

Speaker 5 (32:29):
Years ago you had like who was the old political
woman that went to Stanford card Liza Rice? So I
think's really good. Uh No, they've got it's a bunch
of old guys like Ward Manual from Michigan. Mac Rhodes
is on that group. Oh, I mean you want to
talk about just dumb asses. We got a bunch of.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
Do you call Mac Roads a dumbass?

Speaker 13 (32:52):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (32:52):
I didn't stutter.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
It feels aggressive. Okay, So let's do this here. If
we take the conference champions Oregon, presuming they would be
over Ohio State, We would then take Texas would represent
the SEC, and again we're just going off for rankings here,
right Miami would be the third and then the next

(33:15):
highest rank conference champion would be the Boise State Broncos.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
Yeah, Mountain West, because you're you're presuming the Big twelve
champ will be ranked behind them.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Yeah, because right now the Big twelve champ is the
highest ranked Big twelve team is ASU at sixteen. Yeah,
so is boys are gonna host somebody really awesome.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
Well, they're gonna have a buye, so they're gonna play
the winner of what.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Yeah, I mean they played, They would play on a
neutral side against you know.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
Okay, so there's no there's no crazy ass home game
in Boise unless they drop out of the top unless
they don't win the conference, and they're the lowest unless
the Big twelve winner jumps them at some point in
this ranking thing.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Yeah. Yeah, Colorado really screwed the poach.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
If they'd have beaten Kansas yesterday or on Saturday, they'd
be in the driver's seat. I think everybody would like
to see Colorado inn the Don factor and all that.
And then Ole Miss and Alabama screwed themselves over to
last week like by losing to a nobody. If they
had been in there, they'd be in this conversation too,
And so yeah, I get it. I just it kills
me that Texas is sitting here as a three seed.

(34:20):
They've avoided every good team in the SEC except Georgia,
and they lost to Georgia by double Okay.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
So let me ask you this and this week's obligatory
who get screwed? Who is right now in college football?
Really pissed?

Speaker 5 (34:34):
Well, I mean, look, the teams that have taken a
third loss can only be mad at themselves, right, But
I just, I mean, my biggest problem here is the
automatic moving the conference champs to the front of the line.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
I think is silly.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
It should just be one through twelve.

Speaker 5 (34:49):
Whoever you have ranked one through twelve, that should be
the twelve teams, none of this automatic qualifier and all
this other bull crab.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
So you're saying, even if you win a championship in
your league, you should be guaranteed a spot in the
top twelve. Is that front the time?

Speaker 5 (35:02):
Because if you're a seven, if you're an eight and
five conference champion, you shouldn't just automatically move to the
front of the line.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
And A and M can in theory do that because
if A and M beats Texas, they go to the
SEC championship game.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Now they're twentieth.

Speaker 5 (35:18):
So if they beat Texas this week, presumably you'd probably
move them up to one eleven or twelve. Right, then
if they beat George in the SEC Championship, yeah they'd
become a top ten team, and so yeah, they would
be a lock for a top four seed.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
But it would still be a three loss team in
there though. Yeah, but I think they have quality wins
to back up their three losses, right, and.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
I think they're the only one at this point. If
Texas loses this weekend, they're out of the SEC Championship.
But at ten and two, I think Texas is a
very sexy team. We'd be talking about a first round
game at dk R next week, you know, the week
after all.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Right, is there any two loss team that is more
deserving than a one loss team right now that's not
going to get in?

Speaker 2 (35:55):
I think two lane. I think two lane has been
awesome this year.

Speaker 5 (35:58):
They're two donko Alford's losses were on the road, I think,
or against two really good teams. It was Kansas State
and Oklahoma they lost too. I think that's a better
too Lane to me. He's got a better resume than Indiana.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Yeah, Indiana, by the way, dropped from five to ten,
so that loss to Ohio State really didn't hurt him
that badly.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Right, I just and this is this is my problem.
We look at losses.

Speaker 5 (36:27):
I if I was on the committee, you know, the
first question I would say, resume what is your best win?
That's the first thing I would say about every team
and I would start with Indiana, what is your best
win and if the best, you can give me as well? Nebraska,
I don't know Ucla, like you've got no good wins.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
So well. The reality is you had one chance to
prove all the haters wrong and saying, hey, yeah, you
played a soft schedule, but you got You went to
the Shoe and you beat Ohio State and not only
did you lose the game, but the second half was
not even competitive.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Yeah, and now you play one in ten perdue. I mean,
what does that do?

Speaker 5 (37:04):
Like you we should you should knock down five spots
for playing one in ten perdue the last week.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
It's not fair, Gordy. You can't punish it to For
all I did punish you for playing a bunch of adults.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
You're in the Big Ten.

Speaker 5 (37:15):
You didn't even play any good Big ten teams other
than Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
A lot of that, though, unfortunately, was not not their fault.
That's how the schedule makers put it out.

Speaker 5 (37:23):
But that's this is the problem with the sixteen team conferences.
It's like not every SEC or Big ten schedules created
equal now and they want to expand further, like this's
you're gonna have even more inequities.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
So are we gonna just do this? And we got
one minute before we get to Brian, But like, are
we just just college football fans gonna bitch about any system?
I mean, is there anything we can do just to
make sure that it's, oh, this is the right thing
to do.

Speaker 5 (37:45):
I think we're gonna I think we're teetering on. We're
going to at least fourteen or sixteen in the next
two to three years. And it would not shock me
if we get to twenty twenty, you know, twenty four teams,
whatever it is, and then.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
You're gonna play until February. I mean, are these kids
gonna ever go to school?

Speaker 2 (38:00):
Got money on the line here playing?

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Oh by the way, if you want to extend this schedule, Gordy,
how about these kids that are getting ready for the draft.
They're not gonna want to play these games. I mean,
you can't check play it for national championship and break
your leg and cast yourself several rounds of a draft.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
Keep keep sharing that money, that revenue.

Speaker 3 (38:17):

a look at the numbers and the Cowboys? Why wouldn't
you look at what's gonna happen maybe with two attack

(38:37):
of a little and the Miami Dolphins. Why wouldn't you
want to think about what's gonna happen with the Packers
and what they're gonna do in terms of passing yards.
With Jordan Love, you can do all that. Take the
games you're gonna watch, Take a look at the numbers
that Underdog Fantasy is going to show you and say, yep,
I think it's gonna be higher. I think it's gonna
be lower. And what you're gonna do is you're gonna

Lunchtimers, This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Kitties eleven two on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Rocks is off this week.
Chris Gordy, our buddy, is filling in for him today.
We are with you today until two o'clock this afternoon,
and then we are off for a couple of days
with Thanksgiving holiday. I hope you have a great RESTful
time watching lots of football, making some money maybe on
underdog fantasy, and enjoying which would be a very interesting time,

(40:46):
not only with college basketball, pro basketball, but of course
a plethora of a college of NFL football three games
tomorrow and of course the Texans joining us in Jacksonville
on Sunday to take on the Jaguars and talk about
that is one of the most respected coaches and broadcasters
you'll find out there we speak of Brian Billick, Super

(41:07):
Bowl thirty five champion head coach with us here on
the Matt.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
Thomas Show with Ross Coach. It's Matt and Chris here.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
Thanks for joining us, and I would like you to
be an amateur therapist for the Houston sports fans, because
they're winging out right now. This Texan football team is,
needless to say, underperforming the last handful of weeks. As
you watch them occasionally and how much you are what
are you seeing right now that maybe you didn't see
it earlier in the season.

Speaker 14 (41:33):
Well, they just got to hang tight because the AFC
in particulars clustered, clustered pretty tight. There's a lot of
capable teams. Certainly Kansas City is the lead at ten
to one, but they've shown some vulnerabilities as well. So
h There's Kansas City, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, I throw Houston into
that mix, Baltimore and even the Chargers. They're all right there.

(41:54):
I could give you three reasons why everyone h one
of them is going to the Super Bowl. I give
you three why reasons is why the or not? Clearly
Houston and this is the game of momentum, and right
now they just don't have the momentum. That's the biggest
thing that would have to concern you. They've shown signs
of a CJ. Stroud has been spectacular at times. The
last little bit the interception. But the inconsistency is a concern,

(42:18):
but that doesn't mean that you can't get it back,
because they certainly have shown the signs of it, particularly
early in the season, and there's plenty of time to
get that rhythm to be that team that finishes strong,
particularly knowing that you have the capability and what is
a wide open conference to go to the super Bowl.
You can still make a run at this thing. So
they have time to get them on that momentum back,

(42:41):
but they got to kick it in pretty quick.

Speaker 9 (42:44):
Here.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
Brian Billick is with us. He is here courtesy of
X Tech Pads. We'll be talking more with him about
that coming up in a couple of minutes. Coach, the
offensive line has been a season long issue between formation issues, holdings,
past protection, and my philosophy has been and you obviously
know this significantly better than anybody that's in our audience.
I feel like part of the regression for CJ this

(43:06):
year is his inability to step into throws. I think
he's a little more hesitant. I don't think he trusts
his line. Every quarterback, as you know, coach has to
feel pressure. But I feel like this has really become
something that has affected the timing and the fluidity of
CJ's throws were last year, even when there was a
little bit of pressure, he was able to dance a
little bit, get around it and still make some great throws.

(43:28):
And I just feel like some of those plays that
were those mind blowing wild plays aren't a part of
this year's offense.

Speaker 14 (43:34):
And there's no question that when you're struggling with the
offensive line for whatever reason, whether it's injury, you have
different guys in and out of the lineup as a quarterback,
even though you support those guys and you want to
feel good about it, when that's in the back of
your mind on every play you drop back to pass,
that's not good because it can it gnaws away at

(43:54):
your focus that you've got to have down the field.
And so that is a reason, a big part of
the reason why he J. Stroud may not be quite
as comfortable in the pocket or you realize, you know,
you talk about that perverbial clock that goes off in
your head as to how long I can be in
here before that speeds up, and it speeds up, probably
more arbitrarily than it should, and he starts to get

(44:17):
more jittery in the pocket even when he is solid
in the pocket, and that affects everything about the timing.
So he's got to kind of get that back, or
they've got to get him outside the pocket a little
bit more by design, just to let him settle down
so that he can make, like you say, those hyge
popping plays. We were used to seeing.

Speaker 5 (44:34):
Sarking with coach Brian Billick and coach THEOC Bobby Slowick.
He's getting a ton of criticism this year when it
comes to the Texans offense. They've been great scoring in
the first half, with the second half of games offense
just is bogged down. Six times this year they have
failed to score a second half touchdown. As a former
play call of yourself, what's the reason for that? Is
it getting too conservative because you got a lead? Is

(44:56):
it the other defense making halftime adjustments? What have you
seen what would call the offensive bog down the second
half like it has this year.

Speaker 14 (45:03):
Well, it's the flow of the game as much as anything.
And if you are struggling in an area you go
over the course of an entire game, it's going to
show up. You can maybe hide it, or the flow
of the game allows you to hide it in the
first couple series, or even in the first half. If
you've gotten a couple of nice series, you've got a
nice rhythm, maybe your defense is playing well, and you know,

(45:26):
just the natural flow of the game. But when you've
got to go to the entire sixty minutes, then those flaws
are going to show up at some point. It's just
like the quarterback that you know, on a twenty five
throw game, he can be spectacular, but what does he
do on a forty five throw game when he has
to really put the game on his shoulders. And that
may be the case, but that by the time you
get into the second half, now the some of the

(45:48):
inequities you have or some of the issues have are
definitely going to show up at some point. So, yeah,
it is a challenge. I don't know that it's a
difference in play calling or the approach that you're taking,
or you're lack of adjustments. I don't know that that's
the case as much as it is the true personality
of your team is going to come out via the
whole course of the game, particularly in the second half.

Speaker 5 (46:09):
Tamiko has been pretty a loyal guy, right he brought
sloak with him over from San fran and he believes
in him and every you know, everything last year was awesome.
We were praying that Sloak wouldn't get a head coaching
job and we could keep him here and they were
able to keep him. But at what point does it
get bad enough you would consider making an in season change?
And I bring that up because some people really believe
in Gerad Johnson, who's the quarterbacks coach. They think he's

(46:31):
an up and comer as a play caller. Is that
something you ever had to do in your career fire
and assistant in season?

Speaker 14 (46:39):
Yeah? Yeah, And it's a tough It's a tough one
and basically it comes down to what does your team think,
because the players know and the players have a sense
of whether they believe in what they're doing. They're just
fighting through the tough ones, you know, do they take
on responsibility?

Speaker 15 (46:54):
You know?

Speaker 14 (46:55):
And at the end of the day, it's sess, guys,
it's how we're playing or are their question marks? And
you as the head coach can recognize that it's really
about how the It's kind of like your starting quarterback.
Did the player the players really believe in it? Or
do you need to make a change there, not that
you need to make a change for CJ. Stroud talking
about other situations, but there are questioning, well do I

(47:15):
make the change at the quarterback? It's the same way,
How is the team responding to it? What do they
really see? And typically making that kind of change doesn't
make a difference because it really isn't that. It's not
necessarily the play calling, it's the players and how they're executing.
But if you feel like a change would energize the

(47:38):
players and give them something to hang their hat on, well,
then that's something you have to consider as the head coach.

Speaker 3 (47:43):
Before we get to talking about X tech pads and
a second coach. A final question, We're very curious about
your perspective about how often you change your mind about
who's going to represent each of the conferences. I'm all
in Detroit over and over again, and then I watched
Philadelphia dominate. Saquon Barkley was great against the Rams this
past weekend. I think Detroit Phildelphi your headed for a

(48:03):
collision course. As you mentioned, you could see the Texans
being in that mix with Buffalo and Baltimore the way
they played against the Chargers on Monday night. Of course,
Kansas City. If I was to hold your feet to
the fire right now, who will be playing in New
Orleans on the final Sunday of the season at this point.

Speaker 14 (48:20):
Well, in the NFC, you're right, it's those top two teams,
and they're playing consistent, they're playing physical. To have confidence, say,
you have good teams like Minnesota and that are close
in the record, but right now, the cream of the
crop is Philadelphia and Detroit in the AFC. Like I said,
it's to me, it's a wide open deal. They're all touching.
Like I said, I can make a case for each

(48:42):
of them to go, and then also talk about the
inadequacies Kansas City because the pedigree, even though they're winning
on very tight margins, now, they have that sense of destiny,
they have that sense of confidence that they're net ever
out of it. So clearly, if you had to pick
right now, I don't know how you don't pick the
pedigree of Kansas City. But by the same Joken Baltimore

(49:03):
at times is shown to be an absolute dominant team.
I think Buffalo is a team that's a little under
the radar. Sitting there at nine to two, it's hard
to imagine that. But the way they're playing, the way
Josh Allen's playing right now, you know they're a spectacular team.
So those team three teams right now, even though you'd
have to, you have to lean towards Kansas City because
of the pedigree. I think Kansas City, Buffalo, and Baltimore

(49:25):
clearly are the ones that are shown on a most
consistent basis to be the best team. Pittsburgh the defense
is outstanding, but the offense is a little questionable for
me to think that they're going to crack and go
all the way through the playoffs against and having played
through a Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes and or Lamar
Jackson to get to the Super Bowl, all right.

Speaker 3 (49:46):
For let you run, coach. We've got a lot of
dads that are coaching youth football involved in the football
in safety. We're always trying to make it the sport
it's as successful and popular and as safe as it
can be. And I know you've got a product you
want to tell the folks about.

Speaker 14 (49:59):
Yeah, Tech Pads. It's the number one pad and all
professional football, major college and the high school level. Next
year we're going to be dowted to the youth level,
which I'm excited about. But it's the best pad in football,
mainly because it's it's basically fitted. It's not just one
size fits all. It's a pad that takes into account
your height, your weight, your playing position, your injury history,

Speaker 3 (50:53):
Paths xtechpads dot COM's website. Last question, coach Dion Sanders
for him if you were giving him advice stay in
the college ranks or take a flyer on maybe becoming
an NFL head coach in the not too distant future.

Speaker 14 (51:08):
Wow, well, Dion, he's doing a spectacular job. I knew
he'd be a great coach. He's great for the college game,
and I hope he stays there because of that, because
he's great for the players. He's great for the energy
the game. But if I'm him, I'm making a d
line to the NFL because the college game right now
scares me. The nil the portal you can see, that's
why so many coaches are getting out. Although he loves

(51:30):
working with the players and I respect that. For him,
long term, I'd head for the Hills.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
Coach Bilic, It's always a pleasure to have you on
this radio station. Thank you very much for the time
and best of luck with X tech pads.

Speaker 14 (51:41):

few minutes. We've got to shut your bomb ass off.
Coming up at the bottom of the hour, Matt Thomas
with you from Philadelphia, where I'm going to tell the
NBA to shut their bumb ass up. That's in ten minutes.
I don't think I can get suspended for it because
it's a very fair it's a very fair criticism. By

(53:56):
the way, Gordy A. Baylor Doug on Twitter wants you
to do your criticisms of whatever you're going to tell
people to shit in brum us up in your Cajun voice.
Can you do that?

Speaker 2 (54:04):
I don't really have a Cajun voice.

Speaker 3 (54:06):
Now you are. You did not marry into a Cajun family.
You married into into a Houston family with obviously strong
Kentucky ties. Now, well, what would be the most Cajun
dish you will have tomorrow at Thanksgiving? Or will you
even have anything?

Speaker 5 (54:19):
I made oyster dressing last year and it didn't come
out as good as I thought it could have, so
I'm skipping it this year.

Speaker 2 (54:25):
But oyster dressing is a big Louisiana thing.

Speaker 3 (54:28):
Yeah. So then did the members of your family go, oh,
Chris nice, try or do they just eat it and go
didn't say a word and knowing that your wife was
going to tell you later on it sucked.

Speaker 2 (54:36):
Oh they're They're all very nice. They're complimentary. Okay, I
will say. The other one is fried turkey. In Louisiana,
a lot of people do the deep turkey fryer.

Speaker 3 (54:46):
Yeah. I need a ruling, by the way on this.
And I don't Mop Eyes has a fried turkey sandwich. No, No,
it's Rarby's it does that. I'm sorry, not not Rock Eyes.
It's Rarby's. It has the fried turkeys sandwich.

Speaker 2 (55:02):
I'm out on that.

Speaker 3 (55:03):
I don't know if I trust Robby's with my with
my turkey. No, they do one thing, well, that's roast beef. Yeah.
I think Robby's has an image problem, like you know,
rock on the Rocks, the same thing. They can't just
to sell your sell your ten best items and call
to day. It was trying to reinvent the wheel.

Speaker 2 (55:22):
The uh, there're seasoned curlies too, are undefeated.

Speaker 3 (55:25):
That's true, that's true. All right, I'm hungry now, seven
one three seven. The worst thing about the ship that
we can't eat. And if we want up eating on air,
they'll come across this roof. We can't do that.

Speaker 2 (55:36):
We gotta start pitching your show.

Speaker 3 (55:38):
Brunch with Matt, that's exactly a brunch with Matt, that's right.
It's like feed me like I have people have women
come in and feed us grapes during time out and
during the commercial breaks.

Speaker 2 (55:47):
You're in the Eastern time zone, right.

Speaker 3 (55:49):
Yeah, I'm need to take a picture of my I
am in a hotel. I'm on the fifty first floor
of this hotel. I mean I'm literally looking outside my
to the entire entire city of Philadelphia as we speak,
no snow, thankfully, I can see the casino from where
I am, and I have not had time to go

(56:10):
over there because look, I got the show to doing,
I got a Rockets game.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
But well, if you're a trooper like me.

Speaker 5 (56:15):
When we were on the road covering the Astros, I'd
get up at the crack but a dawn and get
out and explore the city.

Speaker 3 (56:21):
Oh is that right? I've never been to a liberty
bell or is a liberty bell here?

Speaker 2 (56:25):
It's somewhere we found.

Speaker 3 (56:26):
It, Okay. Yeah, I was gonna say, party, did you
have with draws?

Speaker 7 (56:30):
Is here?

Speaker 3 (56:30):
Could normally that's your best vacation times to covering the
Astros during the playoffs vacation, but it would have been uh,
who would they?

Speaker 5 (56:37):
Yeah, we were we were booked to go to Minnesota
at Ross and I so or Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
No, it is Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (56:42):
Yeah, we were going to go to Cleveland and I've
been there before.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
It's okay, it's okay, It's it's not spectacular, it's fine.

Speaker 5 (56:49):
Is everything's kind of walkable though, you can walk around
from to the Progressive Field or whatever it is.

Speaker 3 (56:54):
Yeah, that's right, that's right.

Speaker 4 (56:56):
Seven one three two one two five seven nine.

Speaker 3 (56:58):
If you want to jump in a conversation seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero, so I
can ask you because you don't have a biased viewpoint
of this with your buddies and you are, mister sports
twenty four to seven, which I appreciate. Is there any
part of your buddies, Houston buddies that are buying into
this Rockets nice run or is it still very much
a wait and see at this point?

Speaker 5 (57:19):
No, I think I think there's a lot of folks
getting on board. That win last night was I mean again,
I get at the Kog's for plat at the same time.
So it kind of sucks if you didn't have the
dual the TV thing, but that that to pull that
one out because Minnesota at one point, I mean, they
had all the momentum what what about four minutes to go? Yeah, like, yeah,
this things gonna happen for that what Amen hits the
Big three to get.

Speaker 2 (57:40):
It back tied and I was like, oh, okay, got
a chance here.

Speaker 13 (57:44):
Now.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
Craig has been trying to sell a little bit of
Harry Easan as a defensive player of the Year. I
don't know if you're gonna be able to do that
as a bench player, so but help me out. Is
a men. Thompson got a shot at six man early
on again, so very early in the season.

Speaker 5 (57:59):
I think, I think so, and Tari gets my photo
approval as an LSU Tiger.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
He does.

Speaker 3 (58:05):
I'm sure he does. He deserves it. But you had
to realize the Rockets have played nineteen games and have
won thirteen of them. I don't remember the last time
the Rockets had thirteen wins before December. It had been
during the heyday of the James Hard and Chris Paul Rockets.

Speaker 5 (58:22):
Right, and they're doing it against They're doing it against
good teams. You know, It's not like you're just beating
up the crap teams on your schedule losing to the
good teams. And really, I mean the Portland game the
other night, I guess what they get ended up losing
by six, But really, I mean the OKAC game is
the only game that was you were not in right, Yeah, you're.

Speaker 3 (58:44):
Down thirty one to Golden State and he came back
and eventually took the lead and lost in overtime. So
but yeah, it's they have three bad losses. Although Charlotte
is well, Charlotte's bad, so I shouldn't say that was
a bad loss. Portland was a bad loss. San Antonio
is playing above five hundred, so that didn't turn out
to be as bad as a loss as I thought

(59:05):
it was going to.

Speaker 2 (59:05):
Be you cannot lose this one tonight. Philly sucks.

Speaker 3 (59:09):
No Joel Embiid, no Kyle Lowry, and no Paul George.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
Yeah, cannot lose this one. Wait anst one.

Speaker 3 (59:21):
Did you see the minutes play last night with all
the starters. I mean it was like thirty six thirty
seven minutes for all of them.

Speaker 5 (59:26):
Yeah, we need you to suck it up. It was funny
too at the end of the game. Dylan Brooks, you know,
he had some big free throws there late right he
was doing the postgame interview with Vanessa. Literally every player
came up and hit him and said something to him
and kept disrupting the postgame interview.

Speaker 3 (59:44):
Was it family friendly conversation?

Speaker 2 (59:46):
I think so. There may have been Okay, there may
have been a curse word in there too.

Speaker 3 (59:49):
Yeah, it's all right, it's cave. What are you gonna do?

Speaker 2 (59:51):
But day win to night? I mean Sunday night.

Speaker 5 (59:53):
Like, look, I know we're still in football season, but right,
Houston fans, let's wake up.

Speaker 2 (59:57):
Okay, See coming to town Sunday night. It's a big one.

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Yeah, Okay, See is one of the top two teams
in Western Conference. I don't know if the NBA likes that idea,
but I can take it from a talent standpoint, it's
going to be good. So hopefully that is the case.
We're going to get Gordy's prediction also in the next
half hour thirty five to forty minutes about what's going
to happen between Texas A and M and Texas because
I've got an emotional family right now back in Houston

(01:00:23):
waiting for that game to be played on Saturday night.
So we'll get to his thoughts on that. We'll get
your thoughts on that, and we will also get from
you now coming up. If there's somebody in your life
it is driving you crazy, something has happened. You want
to tell them to shut their bomb asses up. You
need to do this right now at seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. This is the pre

(01:00:44):
Thanksgiving Day edition of shut your bomb ass Up. Is
somebody in your life driving you crazy, somebody do something
to you, or if somebody at the office is putting
a bunch of work on your plate before you want
to get out today at two o'clock starting enjoying the
Thanksgiving holiday, tell them, but I got time for that.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven

(01:01:05):
one three two one two five seven nintiy it's eleven
twenty seven. Shut you obamas up. He's coming up after
I tell you about Two Creeks Crossing Resort. I know
you want to get away. I know it's tough to
get away for an island or a trip to a
beach or to overseas. But if you want to get
away for a couple of days to enjoy the nature

(01:01:26):
because you like to be outdoors, but you also don't
want to be out there on one hundred and fifteen degrees,
two Creeks Crossing Resort is a perfect place to go
right now, up near Lake Livingston. Get yourself a waterfront cabin,
get yourself one of those awesome, fully furnished treehouses, and
you're gonna love the experience so ridiculously comfortable. With all
the modern amenities, high speed Wi Fi kitchens, there's a

(01:01:47):
hot tub, stoves. I mean you can go up there
and just hang out for a couple of days and
get away, turn your cell phone off and just relax
and enjoy the modern amenities and nature all in one spot.
And it's two Creeks Crossing resort. Trust me when you
take a look at that website and see all the
different things I can offer, from a catch and release
pond to a pool, to a hot tub, to an

(01:02:09):
ice house on the weekends to a movie theater. I
mean all sorts of things, workout facilities, place to clean
your clothes, high speed Wi Fi. You're be like, man,
thanks for telling me about this. I didn't think of
a place like this could be so close to Houston,
and it is. It's called Two Creeks Crossing Resort online
where you can say forty percent at two Creekscrossingresort dot com.

Speaker 6 (01:02:29):
Again again, this badly.

Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
We have relatives coming into town we don't like. Now,
you wouldn't want to tell them to shut their bumb
asses up, but just saying this is the place you
come once a week for half an hour to just
tell somebody. Ain't nobody got time for that, or shut
their bumb asses up. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven, Hontie,

(01:03:07):
I'll start, Gordy. When did Minneapolis to Philadelphia be a
convenient back to back for NBA teams? Now, granted we're
flying in the middle of the night and there's not
a lot of air traffic. But damn we didn't get
too the room till three point fifteen this morning. Ain't
nobody got time for a two and a half hour

(01:03:27):
flight from Minneapolis to Philadelphia in a back to back?

Speaker 4 (01:03:29):
Will you lose an hour because of the time difference?

Speaker 3 (01:03:32):
Hey, nobody got time today?

Speaker 14 (01:03:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:03:34):
I probably should have gone the other way, go for
what happened to Minneapolis, or maybe a day off in between.

Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
I don't care, but you can't play Minnesota Philadelphia back
to back? What was Portland Boston unavailable for us?

Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
Yeah? Golden State to Boston couldn't make that trip?

Speaker 3 (01:03:50):
Why wasn't port Why wasn't a Sacramento to Miami available
in a back to back? Sorry, I don't mean to complain,
but that's what I'm here for. Fire week. We get
to do this seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven to one three two one two five
Semonie Gordy, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
Yeah, I'm gonna go.

Speaker 5 (01:04:09):
After College Football Playoff chair Ward Manual, who was asked
after the College Football Player Frank rankings last night, he
was asked about Boise State coming at number eleven in
those latest rankings. Now, that is up one spot from
where Boise was a week ago number twelve. Okay, for
those who don't know, Boise struggled this past weekend, barely

(01:04:30):
beating two to nine Wyoming seventeen to thirteen, Ward Manuel said.
In response, he said the committee really values winning and
said that some people on the committee played at Wyoming
when they were coaches, and they say it's a really
tough environment to play in. What you know, who else
won at Wyoming this year, matt Utah State, Idaho. Ward Manual,

(01:04:54):
shut your bumb ass up.

Speaker 4 (01:04:56):
That's what I'm talking about, rewarding.

Speaker 5 (01:04:58):
Boise for struggling at Wyoming because well, a few of
our coaches think it's a tough place to play. I'm
sure all twenty nine thousand fans in Laramie, Wyoming really
make a difference in that high school stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
Shit, tobam mass up.

Speaker 3 (01:05:12):
Man, No one, you're not getting credentialed with the A
and M Texas game. You're so mean to the award
that Ward dude.

Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
They just do what again, At the end of the day,
the committee just does whatever the hell they want.

Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
Mm you went right, You went right for the Juggular.

Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
There got another one if you want it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
No, we got plenty of time. It's just you and
me talking. Nobody else is out there. It's a holiday week, Yeah,
that's what it is.

Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
Oh, you should have seen the roads last night. A
lot of people getting out of town.

Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
Is that right? Okay?

Speaker 7 (01:05:42):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Coach Prime.

Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
And I like Dion, But if you missed yesterday, Matt,
the all the awards semi finalists lists came out for
all the you know, the ESPN Awards, the Right, the Thorpe,
the you know, all the all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 7 (01:05:57):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:05:58):
Deon Sanders was not happy that Travis Hunter was snubbed
as a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. Coach Prime's
saying quote, o's Travis Hunter snubbed by the Thorpe.

Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
You could have my award, you know what, you can
have it back.

Speaker 9 (01:06:12):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:06:12):
In fact, I'm gonna give it to him. He's gonna
get mine. Coach Prime a little overreaction there. Travis Hunters
rated the sixth best cornerback in the country.

Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
He's very good. He's very good.

Speaker 5 (01:06:25):
Pro Football Focus has him as the sixth best corner
and the fourth best wide receiver. He is awesome as
a dual threat, but it's okay to say he's not
one of the three best corners in the country. So
Coach Prime not only bitching that he's not a finalist,
but to say you're gonna give him your Thorp award.

Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Shut you, obum mass up, shut obumass up.

Speaker 9 (01:06:44):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
Love that Gordy bringing the passion? Connor, can you beat
what Gordy has giving you with a one to two
punch right there?

Speaker 16 (01:06:50):
Not the passion though, But I'll give you something everybody
can relate to this. I guess around the holidays, you
see some maybe some family or some family friends. They
haven't seen it in a while. And that happened last night.
I had an early thanks see having dinner with some people.
It was good to see them. You know, we were
close when we were younger, but ain't nobody got time
to pretend that we're best friends, saying that we should

(01:07:12):
plan something together and hang out more. I mean we
say that every year, nothing ever happens. So let's just
say it was good to see you and we'll catch
up next year. And nobody got time to be fake.

Speaker 4 (01:07:20):
Hey, nobody got were they looking to do a friends giving?

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
With you. Is that what they were looking for?

Speaker 16 (01:07:25):
No, it was like it was just a family friend
catch up thing, like we hung out when we were younger.
Our families hung out when we were younger, but we
don't really hang out anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
But you don't even really like them, do you.

Speaker 16 (01:07:37):
I mean, it's great to see them, but everybody's got
their own stuff going on.

Speaker 3 (01:07:40):
Now we've got our own lives. You got your girl.
Now you're about to get engaged before you know it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
No, no, no, no, no, okay.

Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
I was putting the car before the horse a little
bit up now on.

Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
Yeah, maybe and maybe five years we'll see.

Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
Okay, that's five years gonna go. You're gonna date.

Speaker 4 (01:07:54):
Let me tell you, some girls are not waiting five
years to marry your ass.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
That's not happening.

Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
I'm only twenty three. I'm turned twenty four. Yes weekend,
But oh you really did.

Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
We didn't get you a gift? Yikes?

Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
What's your birthday? Sunday?

Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
What day of the week? What number is that the first?
Oh dang, we didn't get you anything. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
I'd get him your rockets thunder tickets.

Speaker 16 (01:08:14):
Now, Gordia, send me to Vegas with Matt now they
can even president here.

Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
So I can't. If we got to Vegas, I can't
go by myself. I mean, I mean may as much
as I like Jabari Smith and.

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
Maybe with me where the company is right now? Man,
maybe you didn't hear about those headlines.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
Oh yeah, I forgot. Yeah, but we can uh, we
don't have trade. We can't get you guys in a
in a racial hotel of iHeart.

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
The eks Caliber is like thirty eight bucks a month.
You want to stay there?

Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
Dude? You did you really stay there for the college
football playoff game or that weekend opening weekend? Yeph was
that horrible? It was okay, it was not go okay,
it was terrible. I got terrible food poisoning at the
ex Caliber that one time.

Speaker 5 (01:08:59):
I'll tell you what. It's on par with some of
those dumps on Fremont.

Speaker 3 (01:09:02):
That's true. That's why you gotta go to Circa. That's
they'll take care of you, all right. Seven one three
two one two five seventy. There's nobody in Houston, Texas.
I mean, I know we're in listening mode. This is
low this week better. Nobody is complaining about anything. It's
just us three grown ass cranky men complaining about stuff.
There's gotta be something that's gotta been bothering you out there.

(01:09:25):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. I'm
trying to think what else is in the world of
sports is cranking king me?

Speaker 5 (01:09:38):
I had another one we were We went to Austin
this past weekend for the Kentucky Texas game, and it
was a crap ton of Kentucky fans there because this
is this is the fun part of having two new
teams in the SEC. A lot of SEC fans are
getting to go to venues they've never been, so a
lot of Kentucky fans have never been.

Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
To dk R.

Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
But the alumni tickets, so you buy tickets through the
alumni group. In others stadiums, how they normally do it
is they put you all in like a section together,
so when you're looking around the stadium to see all
burn orange and there's blue in one section. Well, how
Texas did it was they split it all up among
the upper deck, so there was blue like sprinkled about,
but it wasn't a per se like Kentucky section. So

(01:10:17):
we had dumb ass Longhorn fans behind us and in
front of us, talking trash the whole time.

Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
Texas Shit a minute, wait a minute, why are they
dumb ass Texas fans? They just beat you guys to
a pulp for three and a half hours.

Speaker 5 (01:10:28):
I'm just saying, and I'm not a huge Kentucky homer,
I'm just saying, like, spread them out.

Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
What are we doing?

Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
Like put the fans into one section. That's what you
should do.

Speaker 5 (01:10:37):
You shouldn't sprinkle it at We paid premium prices to
be in the Kentucky section.

Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
By the way, Chris Gordy, I just got a text
from somebody, you know. She says, I had this is
a girl at rhymes with boring Lordie. I booked with
Points had never been the ext caliber. It was so awful.
Tell Chris to shut his bumb ass up. Shit, so
bum ass up.

Speaker 5 (01:11:00):
Man. Well, I've stayed in some comfort suites before that.
That was not bottom ten hotel.

Speaker 17 (01:11:04):
Ever.

Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
The worst hotel I've ever stayed at as a professional
human being was when Ross and I went to West
Palm Beach a couple of years ago, and we stayed
in a hotel that had blood in the in the
in the tub did it have that was the roof?
Also red it? No, it was it was a moat.
It was a rotel ricks studio. Whatever that meant. I

(01:11:28):
told our bosses. I said, man, look, I understand we've
got to be fiscally conservative, but I mean, my god, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
You're better slipping in the rental car at that point.

Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
And get that right.

Speaker 4 (01:11:37):
Let's go to talk to some people.

Speaker 3 (01:11:39):

on it all year, one hundred dollars every time. I
ain't want nothing, and now I've got some more two
than five and not told homeboys somebody cheating and he said, no,
they're not. And I haven't won nothing all year, so

Speaker 2 (01:13:39):

season for a new head coach.

Speaker 5 (01:16:29):
Well, if you would have stayed, I know, Notre Dame
gets an invite every year.

Speaker 7 (01:16:35):
You're proud of Vanderbilt.

Speaker 5 (01:16:36):
You're proud of a top twenty three win. How many

Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
This year.

Speaker 7 (01:16:42):

Speaker 7 (01:16:54):
Oh okay, we'll play that on the fly too. Oh

Here we run all over the Irish gents.

Speaker 7 (01:17:16):
I know, because we haven't gotten better since that game.

Speaker 5 (01:17:19):
Yeah, because you played Virginia and Florida State huge wins.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
My god, I.

Speaker 7 (01:17:23):
Wish you'd played Vanderbilt.

Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
That would have been the test, Vanderbilt would whoop for
jud to the state, Vanderbilt would have.

Speaker 7 (01:17:28):
Been the beat anybody, Mike, I know we should have
changed our schedule. I mean because they were national champs.

Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
Well, shoot, though, will we schedule.

Speaker 5 (01:17:37):
Let's hope you guys don't play Northern Illinoisgain next year
and be another can't.

Speaker 7 (01:17:41):
Avoiding the din't keep avoiding the seventy. The comment you
made about revising the schedule was absolutely absurd. Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (01:17:47):
I didn't say mid season, Mike, I said schedule state
and they were national champions.

Speaker 7 (01:17:54):
That was a bad Well, maybe you'll joined together even
if y'all joined the d against US. Hey, now you're
gonna use that against US today? Oh you played for US.
Ain't horrible? Okay, Okay, Matt when his last.

Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
Time Notre Dame won anything of relevance, please like.

Speaker 7 (01:18:09):
No, boy, here you go.

Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
Yeah, five years ago in a championship, a guy named
Joe Burry might have heard of him, set records the
greatest college team in history.

Speaker 7 (01:18:20):
Yeah, oh my gosh, this is.

Speaker 5 (01:18:23):
Just y'all have relevant since Bride Kelly left. He actually
brought you all the relevance.

Speaker 7 (01:18:28):
Well, somehow, somehow he keep getting in the college.

Speaker 5 (01:18:31):
Playoffs because you know, because you have a SPA, there's
a rule written that you guy to automatically get in.
Because you play you don't play a conference, you get
special treatment.

Speaker 7 (01:18:44):
I'm sorry, we're able to do that. Yeah, and you
don't win Jack, So doctor, doctor, mister, negotiate the deal.

Speaker 5 (01:18:51):
You know what, Mike, Ye, the Cowboys. You're nationally televised,
but you don't win Jack. Yet for some reason, you
get special treatment.

Speaker 7 (01:19:00):
Okay, great, Hey, that's what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
At least I appreciate.

Speaker 5 (01:19:04):
At least the Cowboys want a championship more recently than
Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (01:19:07):
So you're just you're calling the Notre Dame finding irish
the Dallas Cowboys of college football.

Speaker 5 (01:19:12):
Yeah, living in the past. Constantly tell me more about
Newt Rockney and Rudy.

Speaker 7 (01:19:15):

Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
That was radio gold right there. That's that was That
was the whole reason when we brought you in today.
It was for calls like that, right there. God, that
was good and zero complains.

Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
Nineteen eighty eight, last time they won a championship.

Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
All right, I'll see, I'll say I have Felipe.

Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
Wasn't even born, Felipe.

Speaker 3 (01:19:35):
Did you like that?

Speaker 13 (01:19:37):
I enjoyed that.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
We need that.

Speaker 5 (01:19:39):
That that brings them back to uh standing Gordon when
they go at it and.

Speaker 3 (01:19:42):
Missed that guy. Yeah, which tries amount of uh well,
let me go out real quick following the squares.

Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
Nobody got time for the squares.

Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
Those things should just be phased out. Nobody liked I
hate them. I got good numbers and I did not win.
I do spirit airlines touch you, bum as up. That's
enough said three.

Speaker 13 (01:20:00):
Uh man, it's come my boss man.

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
Everybody wants to go home early.

Speaker 7 (01:20:04):

Speaker 19 (01:20:14):

up mane shit Jo, bum ass up man. Saverio.

Speaker 6 (01:20:24):
Appreciate your guys.

Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
Dennis and Stafford. Dennis, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 17 (01:20:33):
Hey, I'm just calling. I know man is the U
of H guy. I'm a U of H guy, and
and uh the thing that I was calling about is
is the football team at U of H.

Speaker 13 (01:20:45):
In the quarterback right?

Speaker 17 (01:20:48):
Uh? My thing is I'm not I'm a basketball guy.
But I watched you of age football and for football,
and my thing is, if they just changed down the quarterback,
they would probably win, would have won a whole lot
of game. Thing. No, not that guy, Not that guy.
I mean, there's gotta be some other guys. I saw

(01:21:09):
another guy, and there's some other guys listened on there.
And if those guys are that bad, they shouldn't be
on the team. I mean, I'm watching this guy. He's okay,
but he's not a running quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
You what are you talking about?

Speaker 3 (01:21:25):
That quarterback? Is a running quarterback?

Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
The question?

Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
Yeah, you're mixing the people up here.

Speaker 17 (01:21:31):
No, No, I'm talking about uh Chris. You know they
classify him as a running quarterback. And I'm saying, well, no,
he's really not. He doesn't have the quickness for hunting, can't.
You're correct, he doesn't have the vision for throwing. And
I'm saying that the gotta be somebody else on that

(01:21:51):
team that they can try.

Speaker 3 (01:21:53):
They're gonna go get somebody. Trust me on this.

Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
Trust me when I take will not be a starting
quarterback next year.

Speaker 17 (01:22:00):
But Matt, I'm saying, is there somebody there's some other
guys listening on their quarterbacks. Why don't they try it?

Speaker 13 (01:22:07):
What does it hurt?

Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
Because they're going to go pay for some quarterback. They're
going to go to the transfer portal and go get somebody.

Speaker 17 (01:22:14):
Well that's a good thing. But man, I've looked at
that deal. I'm saying, well, you know, it's hard to
even watch the game because I'm saying, well, look, if
you continue to do the same thing and over and
over again, that's instanded.

Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
We're not We're not. We need we need a talent infusion, Dennis,
thanks for the phone call. We need a talent infusion.
So please cut the check to the uge collectors. We
can go buy ourselves at quarterback. What's the quarterback one
in these days? Gordy? About ten and a half million?
You said twelve million.

Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
Well it depends how good? How good you want?

Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Can I get one for six and a half million dollars?

Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
Oh yeah, you can get a road go one for that?

Speaker 3 (01:22:50):
All right? A couple more real quick for the top
of the hour, Steve, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 15 (01:22:55):
Nothing's the matter with me, is Chris, Gordy? That's something
the matter with Hey, Chris, Yes, sir, Unless you're gonna
tell us exactly what this quote. Dumb ass Texas fans
were saying, shit, your bum ass up.

Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
I'm saying, spreading the fans out.

Speaker 5 (01:23:12):
And by the way, Steve, you are to where's your
conserve for Quinn yours and his suck ass this weekend
act in College station because he to throw a terrible
pick six against Kentucky and he's got a bum ankle man.
I turned the page to arch quicker than you could say,
gig them.

Speaker 13 (01:23:28):
I ain't got no argument with that.

Speaker 15 (01:23:30):
But the whole issue we were talking about the fans,
not the quarterbacks.

Speaker 5 (01:23:35):
Oh I just said, because we're talking about the fans
were talking trash, and I'm like, you're beating bum ass Kentucky,
who's got four wins?

Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
Like, come on, what are we doing here?

Speaker 13 (01:23:44):
I played Georgia with the point it was better than
the Long War.

Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
And you'll beat Vandy by three?

Speaker 5 (01:23:48):
I mean, come on, you beat You were like twenty
five point favorites against Arkansas one by ten.

Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
Need a fourth quarter to hang on?

Speaker 13 (01:23:55):
Chris, have you not gotten laid lately?

Speaker 3 (01:23:57):
Or what?

Speaker 2 (01:23:58):
Whoa his wife?

Speaker 4 (01:24:00):
He's listening they of course have sex.

Speaker 15 (01:24:02):
Well you better take care of this boy because he's
on a real hate cycle right now.

Speaker 3 (01:24:06):
I'm just saying.

Speaker 5 (01:24:07):
I'm just telling you like I see it in Texas fans.
I don't know who's more cocky and arrogant Aggie fans
or Texas fans this year.

Speaker 2 (01:24:13):
But somebody's about to get humbled this weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
Oh you're not. You're be pissed there, I love. This
is the Gordy I've been waiting for. Where has this
been for the last two hours?

Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
Notre Dame.

Speaker 5 (01:24:26):
Trust Look, Texas, at least you're number three in the country.
Notre Dame fans coming here, Get out of here. In
northern Illinois they lost that Marshall in his first year.
Like get out Marcus Freeman.

Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
All right, we are out of time. Man, that's too bad.

Lunchtimers, This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 3 (01:26:11):
It is my honor to have Chris Gordy filling in
for Ross because he just had two great arguments with listeners.
Notre Dame fan hates you, Texas fan hates you, and
I think you took a jab at a and m
fan before the top of the hour. That'd be right, Chris.

Speaker 5 (01:26:25):
I'm like John Snow in Game of Thrones where he
was in the battlefield and all the horses are coming
after him and it's just him and he pulls out
his sword.

Speaker 2 (01:26:33):
Bring it all on, Connor.

Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
Was that a Dan Matthews multimedia reference. Yes, you know
what you gotta do, then I'll have it ready. So
ding oh, all right, that's fine, ladies and gentlemen. Our
time is twelve o five is time for the news
in noon, Thanks Matt.

Speaker 5 (01:26:55):
We start in the world of baseball, where Blake Snell
has signed a five year, one and eighty two million
dollar deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they're able
to do this all because Shoheyo Tani is taking a
deferred contract. So the Dodgers are able to shell out
thirty two and a half million a year for Tyler

(01:27:15):
Glass Noow for twenty million a year for Yoshinobu Yamamoto,
for Will Smith to make eleven million a year for
Freddie Freeman to make twenty seven million a year, for
Mookie Betts to make thirty million a year. Love to
see it. The Dodgers, They're just America's team, aren't they.

Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
I hate the Dodgers and I had a hard time
saying let's go Dodger during the World Series. You know
how painful that was for us to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:45):
Dodger Stadium overrated?

Speaker 5 (01:27:47):
Dollar do Dodger dogs overrated?

Speaker 3 (01:27:50):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
Who was there? Broadcaster passed away? Overrated?

Speaker 3 (01:27:55):
Well, okay, okay, what is wrong with you? You? You said
that Vin Scully is overrated the zever? Hey, uh, Connor,
will you leave the room, go into the studio and
hit him with something. I don't care what it is.
Why don't you give him some audio? Copman?

Speaker 5 (01:28:16):
That doesn't for everything in LA that's high class, first class,
palm trees, expensive, rich ass people.

Speaker 3 (01:28:24):
That stadium is a dump. That stadium is amazing. The
only thing that's negati about it are two things. One
you fear for your life and two it's hard to
get in and out of.

Speaker 4 (01:28:32):
But other than that, the stadium itself is spectacular.

Speaker 5 (01:28:35):
Yeah, build some with all that money you're spending on players.
I bet you spend some on the stadium upgrade.

Speaker 3 (01:28:39):
But you made fun of Vin Scully. That's like making fun.

Speaker 4 (01:28:41):
Of our Lord Jesus Christ. Seriously, what is wrong?

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
I never grew up with Vin Scully.

Speaker 3 (01:28:48):
America grew up with Vin Scully. He did the game
to the week forever and ever. What are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
Matt Tomas better broadcaster than Vin Scully?

Speaker 3 (01:28:57):
All right, that's nicer to say it.

Speaker 5 (01:29:00):
Other news the Houston Coog's fall to ninth ranked Alabama
last night, and the Player's Era Festival in Las Vegas
eighty five to eighty in overtime.

Speaker 3 (01:29:08):
LJ.

Speaker 5 (01:29:08):
Crer drops thirty. Didn't get much help from elsewhere. Manuel
Sharp at fourteen before he filed out. Cougs need a
second scorer to emerge.

Speaker 3 (01:29:18):
We need some scoring periods, and we need the referees
to stop blowing their whistles. College basketball, you suck. All
you do is bowl the whistle over and over. That's
why those games take twice as long as NBA games do,
and they play less than we do.

Speaker 2 (01:29:30):
I thought overtime they swallowed their whistle.

Speaker 5 (01:29:32):
This should have been a couple of files called when
you have hid the ball and they just guys falling
on the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
They just swallowed the whistle.

Speaker 3 (01:29:40):
God, all right, I'm just it's okay.

Speaker 5 (01:29:42):
Though, Kook fans. You were undefeated against everyone not from
the SEC.

Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
That's okay. I knew this was gonna be only a
matter of time before you dropped the SEC. Now, wait
a minute, you ripped on Texas and A and M.
They're your cousins, they're your SEC cousins.

Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
Uh overrated.

Speaker 5 (01:29:57):
Well, if you're a fan of an SEC team, you
don't root for the other team's in the SEC unless
you suck.

Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
Wait a minute. Every time I watch a game involving
an SEC championship game or a playoff game, I hear
the chant SEC SEC, we don't I'm not making that up.

Speaker 5 (01:30:10):
Yeah, but it's not. It's not real. Nobody else she's
hurt and trial that okay. Other news, the Texans hard
hitting safety Jalen Petrie out indefinitely with a tear on
his pectoral He's seeking a second opinion, but there is
some thought that he's gonna have to undergo surgery and
we'll miss the rest of the year. Jimmy Ward will

(01:30:30):
slide into that nickel spot to replace Petrie. The Texan's
also lost back up dB Kadar Holman for the season
with a torn acl So secondary get a little thinner
back there.

Speaker 3 (01:30:41):
All right, are we are?

Speaker 9 (01:30:42):
We?

Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
Are we locking this one in? Is it a guaranteed
win Sunday? No doubt about it? No if answered. But oh,
by the way, Trevor Lawrence is practicing for the Jaguars.
You forgot to mention that.

Speaker 5 (01:30:51):
Yeah, great, I mean, I don't know if that is
better or worse for Jacksonville because he has sucked.

Speaker 4 (01:30:59):
And no it's not than Mac Jones. I mean Mac
Jones is terrible.

Speaker 5 (01:31:02):
Yeah, the Jags just suck as a team. But yep,
is it a lock that the Texans win?

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:31:07):
All right, what else you got?

Speaker 5 (01:31:09):
Former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is signed with the Minnesota
Vikings on a one year deal for the remainder of
the season. He will back up Sam Donald and you
presume next year top ten draft pick JJ McCarthy will
take over as the starter. So right, move for Daniel
Jones to go and lat John with the Vikings for
a playoff run.

Speaker 3 (01:31:26):
He doesn't care. He's got all that Giants money came
in us away. He could play for the Edmonton Eskimos
the CFL and he wouldn't care.

Speaker 5 (01:31:32):
Yeah, cost the Vikings three hundred and seventy five thousand
to add him.

Speaker 3 (01:31:35):
So so Timmy, So he sucked as a Giants quarterback,
gets paid the rest of his contract for this year,
and he's getting three hundred and seventy five thousand dollars
to carry clipboard.

Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:31:49):
I mean, look, they might Sam Donald, he gets hurt.
He's one injury away from having to lead a playoff team.
So it's a good spot.

Speaker 7 (01:31:56):
Hmm.

Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
Okay, I congrats. So it's Daniel Jones. I hope he's happy.

Speaker 6 (01:32:02):
What moret was?

Speaker 3 (01:32:03):
Hellum minneapolo was just there?

Speaker 5 (01:32:05):
One more nugget for you, man from the world of
college football. Do you know SMU came in at number
nine in the AP poll this week?

Speaker 3 (01:32:11):
I did.

Speaker 5 (01:32:12):
It's the first time SMU has been ranked in the
AP top ten in thirty nine years.

Speaker 3 (01:32:19):
I bought that team too, that team thirty nine years ago.

Speaker 5 (01:32:22):
Yeah, those SMU alums start opening up their pocketbooks again, SMU.

Speaker 2 (01:32:25):
He could could become a big time force.

Speaker 3 (01:32:28):
Do you really believe that when you just said what
you just said? I mean, are we gonna be talking
about SMU being a perennial power.

Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
I mean, power is a strong word.

Speaker 3 (01:32:38):
But well youpent I mean, let me tell you this.
If is flores take coming back, probably not right.

Speaker 5 (01:32:44):
Well, they got to recruit and turn that thing around.
But yeah, I mean, look, Miami is resurgent, Clemson's kind
of whatever, Louisville's okay if they you know, it's not
a great conference, so SMU sure.

Speaker 3 (01:32:58):
That is weird. SMU is playing for a chance at
an ACC title. The Mustangs, right, Yeah, they play at
gerald Ford Stadium. Nice facility, they have a lot of money.
They're kind of they're kind of up at you. I mean,
you know what, you have not insulted SMU fan. Why
don't you do that before we get out of this segment.

Speaker 5 (01:33:17):
No, I mean they're all they all do well. Have
you ever met an SMU alum that rents?

Speaker 12 (01:33:22):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:33:23):
By the way, SMU girls are hot too, you know
what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (01:33:25):
You ever met an SMU fan or alum who's unemployed
can't find a job.

Speaker 3 (01:33:30):
I never met an SMU fan that doesn't wear like
eternal neck sweaters.

Speaker 5 (01:33:34):
Yeah, they they're always like I just got back from
the Hamptons.

Speaker 3 (01:33:38):
They raised that they lift their collars up and walk
around and they call each other Muffy and Dirk.

Speaker 5 (01:33:43):
They're like, my dad's yacht broke down, so we got
We're on the second yacht this weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:33:48):
Yeah, I mean, if you got it, flawn it right.
And that's what SMU fan does. Do people even Dallas
even care about SMU. I don't think they do.

Speaker 4 (01:33:56):
I think they care about TCU for that matter.

Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
Uh, hot take it is SMU the best football team
in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
Over the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:34:07):
Look, Dallas won at Washington last week. Granted they had
to get Miss mex extra point to win the game.

Speaker 5 (01:34:11):
But you know one more news at noon nugget Matt, Yes, sir,
So the Rockets announced Sunday nights their game against Okay, see,
they're gonna do a happy hour, So an hour before
tip off, five dollars beer, five dollars popcorn.

Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
Connor, it's your birthday. You want to go over there?
Five dollars beers. I think I might be busy.

Speaker 4 (01:34:31):
He's got a grown up, Chris, you don't have time
for Rockets?

Speaker 7 (01:34:33):
All right?

Speaker 5 (01:34:33):
Well, I'll be the guy at two at a center
pounding five dollars beers in the five PM hour.

Speaker 3 (01:34:38):
Now, see, I can't do that because I gotta get
ready for a broadcast. All the broadcast might be a
little might be better.

Speaker 2 (01:34:45):
I make it better.

Speaker 3 (01:34:46):
That's true. I never thought of it that way. Thank
you Gordy for the news. At noon twelve fourteen is
our time. Emay A Dooka, speaking of the Rocket's gonna
join us in the next segment of this radio show.
Come on in and join us right now. You're more
than welcome to do so. Seven one three two five
seven ninety If you are a college football fan and
Chris Gordy has not insulted your school yet, just wait,

(01:35:07):
he's gonna do it next. Any school, Chris, you've not
insulted yet, You'll see. Let's see, you've not bashed so
far today. You haven't taken any shots at my U
of H yet, But that's only a matter of time.
You gotta rip on text to Tech for something Arkansas.
What else?

Speaker 2 (01:35:23):
Taylor?

Speaker 3 (01:35:23):
Baylor. We've gotta rip on Baylor. So next up, Up,
next will be Gordy insult your school seven one three
two one two five seven ninety two fifteen to the
Matt Thomas Show. Here from Philadelphia with Gordy here on
Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 10 (01:35:35):
Ninety or Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:35:44):
Well nineteen Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Ross is uh
in Australia today. Look forward to getting him back in
the next week or so. Gordy's in here, all right, Chris,
We got em joker coming up at the bottom of
the hour. But I'm gonna give you a platform here
because this is your sweet spot. Saturday night, six point

(01:36:05):
thirty Kyle Field. One hundred and something thousand people are
going to be there, high ticket cost, high hotel cost.
They're going to play a football game for the first
time in how many years? Has been eleven years? Longer
than that? Maybe?

Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
Yep?

Speaker 3 (01:36:19):
Who's winning between fighting Texas A and M and Fighting
Texas Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
I said it before the season.

Speaker 5 (01:36:27):
I picked the Aggies to win this game because of
where it is in College station. That'll be Ross Bjork's
lasting legacy at A and M. On his way out
the door off to Ohio State. The one thing he
fought for tooth and nail was to get this the
first reiteration of this game back in Kyle Field, which

(01:36:48):
Ross and some other Longhorns have a problem with because
the last time you played this game November of twenty eleven.
It was in College Station, so you know, by taking
turns alternating, this should have been in Austin year. But again,
the Aggies fought for it. And I said this in
the in the summer, before we knew how good A
and M would be. I said, they're gonna put every
ounce of everything they having to win this game. They're

(01:37:10):
gonna treat it like the super Bowl. And I said,
I don't care if the Aggies have five wins, six wins,
eight wins, whatever it is, They're gonna put everything they
have and to win this game. Well, it turns out
they're actually a pretty good team eight and three. Yes,
they just lost on the road at Auburn in overtime
or quadruple over time. So but nonetheless, they're gonna put
everything they have into this game. And Texas, look, they've

(01:37:31):
been a good team all year. The defense has been awesome,
Anthony Hill has been great. You know, there's so many
good pieces. But I just wonder if they're walking into
a hornet's nest. Suddenly Kelvin Banks and some of those
old alignments start getting false starts because you got a
bunch of you know, one hundred thousand Aggie screaming and
yelling and all that kind of stuff. So yeah, I mean,

(01:37:52):
I'm sticking with the Aggies because it was my preseason pick,
but again, would have shocked me if Texas pulls out
of win.

Speaker 2 (01:37:58):
No, I think that's probably the chalk.

Speaker 5 (01:38:00):
They're five and a half point road favorites and the
winner of this game will go to Atlanta to play
Georgia for the SEC championship. But I don't know, man,
I just think I think at night at Kyle Field,
that place is going to be absolutely buzzing.

Speaker 3 (01:38:15):
How many quarterbacks will play for A and M on Saturday,
I think it will be one.

Speaker 5 (01:38:19):
I think it will just be Marcel Reid. I think
his athleticism is what you need in this game.

Speaker 3 (01:38:25):
Should we be watching Connor Regman's future in the portal
absolutely where people are thinking about where he might go,
you've h yep, all right, I'll take that. Wegman's a
good talent. I mean there were some can went to Bridgeland, right,
I think he went.

Speaker 5 (01:38:41):
There were some draft experts pinning him a few weeks
ago as a first round.

Speaker 3 (01:38:46):
Pick next year.

Speaker 5 (01:38:48):
Really, and that was before he got benched and all that,
but that's his kind of like, that's his talent level.

Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
So that'd be a huge pickup for Willie.

Speaker 3 (01:38:56):
Okay, we need a quarterback. I had a call earlier
about that. All right, how many actual play for Texas
this week?

Speaker 5 (01:39:01):
I think we see Arch at least because that that
ankle for Quinn.

Speaker 2 (01:39:06):
I was at the game last week.

Speaker 5 (01:39:07):
He goes into the you know, he comes off hobbled,
He goes into the medical tent when they went to halftime,
he was the first one who ran into the locker room.
So they they knew they were gonna they were gonna
have to tape up that ankle.

Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
They did an MRI. They said it's not as serious
as maybe they thought.

Speaker 5 (01:39:21):
He did finish the game last week, but he's hobbled,
and all it's gonna take is Nick, Nick Gordon or
one of the Chamars hitting him and knocking him down.
I think, you know that even for a series, I
think we're gonna see Arch Manning on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:39:36):
Maybe it's a worst case kind of like a change
of pace kind of guy. Right, No, I.

Speaker 5 (01:39:40):
Don't like if Quinn's healthy, I think he plays the
whole game. I just think there's going to be a
moment where he's hobbled and has to come out of
the game and Arch comes in.

Speaker 3 (01:39:48):
Well, all I'm gonna say is this, and Ross and
I argue about this all the time for two schools
that say they don't care about each other, they deep
care about each other. And it's so funny how they
just go to all ends A and m is like,
we don't have a rival. Texas says our rivals Oklahoma,

(01:40:11):
And then all people call the show. You don't know, Matt,
you didn't go to either school. You don't know. All
I know is that for a better part of ten years,
every Longhorn or Aggie has ever called the show, all
they do is defend how that other school is not
a rival of theirs. It's like saying, I'm not jealous
of that pretty girl in my class when you know

(01:40:32):
your damn well are jealous. I, for one, am with
no dog in maybe a slight lean towards the Aggies
because my son goes there, But I'm happy they're playing
each other. No disrespect to college baseball or to college basketball,
but this is what we dreamt of. With the moment

(01:40:54):
that Texas said they were leaving to go to the
SEC was to have these two teams playing on a
semi regular basis.

Speaker 2 (01:41:00):
I do think.

Speaker 5 (01:41:01):
I think like if we were writing coaches in the SEC,
I would probably put Kirby's number one.

Speaker 2 (01:41:06):
I think Sarkas number two right now, so I don't disagree.

Speaker 5 (01:41:10):
I saw some Baggie fans calling Mike Elko fatter Jimbo
over the weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:41:16):
So that why are people worrying about his weight? That
that football team is ten times more relevant than it
was a year ago at this point, and I said,
I thought, I thought eight.

Speaker 5 (01:41:23):
And four was what Aggies would go this year. So
they're one win already ahead of that. So they're already
ahead a schedule in my opinion.

Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
So now I saw on Twitter, tell me this is wrong.
The celebrity picker is going to be the coach. No,
not's lost, Nigel?

Speaker 2 (01:41:40):
Is it really?

Speaker 4 (01:41:41):
I saw that.

Speaker 3 (01:41:42):
I don't believe it, but I was like, that would be.

Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
I was standing next to I was on the sideline
pregame on Saturday and I was standing right next to him.
He was out there. It was one of those things
where I want, who is that guy? Looks familiar? Oh
that's lost Nagel.

Speaker 3 (01:41:55):
Because there's no way that Schausger could go back to
college station without having armed security.

Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
Yeah. Oh, that would be awesome though, if he was, Oh.

Speaker 3 (01:42:06):
You know what we were, we're gonna know by now.
Let me look it up real quick.

Speaker 9 (01:42:09):
On don't.

Speaker 3 (01:42:12):
They haven't announced it, I'm gonna be it better not be. Well,
who's the most famous aggi they would want to put out?

Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
But wasn't he already on what college station?

Speaker 7 (01:42:23):
Already?

Speaker 6 (01:42:24):
You can't?

Speaker 3 (01:42:24):
Yeah, if the games that ain't, you're not putting him
on there the celebrity pick at a college station game.
So that's that's an erroneous tweet tweet.

Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
Yeah, it's a joke.

Speaker 3 (01:42:33):
I mean it kind of fits though.

Speaker 2 (01:42:37):
That would be awesome.

Speaker 3 (01:42:39):
That would not it would not be you would have
massive casts. You'd be the first destructive game day in
the history of game day.

Speaker 5 (01:42:45):
Somebody said the Aues they should go with their current
baseball coach, Michael Early.

Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
Yeah, the promise. No one knows who that is.

Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
No, but you're not doing that. Who would be the
who'd be the definitive AGGI to go to? Just gotta
be a football player, right, No, it could be any celebrity,
but who's a celebrity ag.

Speaker 2 (01:43:01):
Lole love it.

Speaker 3 (01:43:05):
Lyle love it is? Who they go with?

Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
I don't know who the famous alums.

Speaker 3 (01:43:10):
Wait a minute, it's a Wednesday of game. We don't
know who it's gonna be yet. We cannot know right now.

Speaker 5 (01:43:13):
No, they've they've they've waited till Friday to announce sometimes.

Speaker 3 (01:43:18):
All right, let's u turn our attention to the NBA.
Our buddy emey Adoka is going to join us next
year from Philadelphia. If you are a fantasy football fan,
get ready, Doctor Ortal's going to join us. In a
half an hour. Twelve twenty seven. This is Sports Talk
seven ninety twelve thirty one Sports Talk SEVENINTI The Matt
Thomas Show with Ross here in Philadelphia. Rockets and the

(01:43:40):
seventy six Ers coming up tonight. After last night's game
with the Minnesota Timberwolves and went to overtime, the Rockets
are going to go to the knockout round of the
nd Season Tournament. But first things first got to focus
on tonight's opponent, the Philadelphia seventy six Ers, And we'll
do that with our friend Emeyodoka, head coach of the
Houston Rockets. Coach congratulations. Very exciting victory that Philadelphia. Excuse

(01:44:06):
me that Minnesota did everything they could to take that
one away in the fourth quarter. But you got some
key stops men Thompson Alpi, got some going things offensively
late in the contest, some Colach free throws. It was
a really satisfying victory. Not a perfect game, but it
definitely a satisfying one.

Speaker 8 (01:44:24):
Yeah, it was one of the more sweet victories this
year do to all the things you just mentioned. You know,
obviously we built the lead and couldn't sustain it, but
battled our way back.

Speaker 3 (01:44:35):
Into it and I got it lately. They made a
push late in the fourth.

Speaker 8 (01:44:38):
And then we had a really good running overtime eleven
over run, so a lot of ups and downs, but
stuck with it. A lot of guys stepped up and
it was a full team effort.

Speaker 3 (01:44:46):
How's it body doing? Everybody sleep all let's sign do
you sleep?

Speaker 8 (01:44:48):
Okay, We're all gonna be a little tired, but we
know what it is. It's a back to back that
time of the year, and and this is a tough one.
Minnesota to Philly lose an hour, get in late, but
have to muster up energy and nobody's gonna feel sorry
for you. So this is where our depth comes into play,
and guys will get ready for tonight. But we know
it's a good challenge on hand, and getting last night

(01:45:10):
out of the way was a good one. But he'll
make it even sweeter two on this trip.

Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
Hey, the great shooting early on, Fred was knocking him down.
Dylan was doing it, man, I mean, there were so
many different heroes. How about the difference between the first
and the second half with Albi two points in the
first two quarters, and look, I've called every one of
his games him going against Rudy Gobert. Now, I don't
know how much of a difference it is with Karl
Anthony Townsend out there with him, but that was the

(01:45:36):
best night Alpi had a going against Rudy Gobert, maybe
in his NBA career.

Speaker 8 (01:45:42):
Yeah, I mean I think you know, he really was
distributing the ball well in the first half. He had
five assists in the first quarter and I wanted to
say seven a round halftime.

Speaker 3 (01:45:51):
Obviously, it ended up with a triple double. Soft he
took what the game gave him.

Speaker 8 (01:45:55):
They were really showing the crowd there on his rolls
when he found it in the pocket and he got
Jabari a lot of those three he's dealing with all
those kickout threes, and so he did what came natural,
made the right play, and so they went away from
that at some point to start guarding the shooters, and
he really got to go to work one on one
quite a bit on Gobert, and so great to see
him obviously come through in the second half scoring wise,

(01:46:18):
but I think he had a really good overall game.
Obviously with the stat line you see, and yeah, Gobert
is a tough challenge, but he uses his strength inside
kind of muscled him under and kind of had his
way with him, especially in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
Did he need a game like that, because I know
there have been some times where I felt like he's
probably been pretty frustrated because Gobert is such a defensive
presence that now his confidence level just goes up going
against a guy like Bena having as much success as
he did.

Speaker 8 (01:46:43):
Yeah, I think he really did a good job of
moving himself around, and you know, he wasn't only attacking
in the post. He was finding in on the roll
in the pick and roll, had some of those little
mid range shots, but also some of the iles around
the elbows where he can use his quick first step
and kind of get into his body there so he
can't time him on the blocks. So he did all
every which way, especially late in the game like you
saw in the overtime. Obviously he took over there, but

(01:47:06):
great to see him find a way against a really
good defender that presents some challenges. But we said all
the time out but he's going to be a matchup
problem against pretty much everybody in the league, and he
figures out how to get it done. It's just his
versatility moving him all around is obviously a big asset
for him.

Speaker 3 (01:47:22):
I'm going to start trying to push for a men
Thompson is like six Man of the Year kind of
candidate coach. He has been crushing it. The side pocket
three was huge for you last night. The mid courts deals.
That's almost every single night from a shooting perspective, a
massive overhaul on how it leaves his hand. Is it
just rhythm, is it experience, is it better placement? I mean,

(01:47:42):
could be all the above, but not that he does
a lot of that kind of deep rain shooting. But
that three last time he had late in the game
couldn't have come in a better time.

Speaker 2 (01:47:51):
Yeah, say, that's a lot of what you just mentioned,
but mainly confidence.

Speaker 3 (01:47:55):
He puts the work in.

Speaker 8 (01:47:56):
He's taking tons of reps this summer and he does
it every day. So the stroke looks a little more smooth,
and no doubt about that. But confidence wise, he's not
afraid to let it fly. He gets to the spots
and doesn't always let them force him to take the
shots that they want him to take. He'll he'll attack
and slice to the basket, but once they start they
sag off a little bit more. He's very comfortable shooting

(01:48:18):
that quarter three especially, and so it was good to
see that happen. Obviously, the steels and the full court layup,
that was a big one late in the game. But
he's going to continue to grow and he puts into work,
so his confidence is going to continue to be sky high,
and making a shot like that late.

Speaker 3 (01:48:32):
In the game will only boost it anymore. He may
dooka with us here on sports Talk, so around a coach,
you know, when we were growing up, college players played
two three four years. Now most guys are wanting and
there was a lot of that last night with Reid
out there and they obviously Dylan m was out there
and you'll see some of that tonight as well. Do
you as a coach just kind of have to sometimes

(01:48:53):
take a step back and go, damn, twenty years ago,
these nineteen year olds were finishing up their freshman year
in college. Now they're expected to be rotation guys, And
how have you treated those type of players a little differently?
Knowing that still even though they're very exceptional fine athletes
the NBA game, the adjustment from a year in G
League or a year in college is still so significantly different.

Speaker 8 (01:49:16):
Yeah, you have to be patient and understand that, you know,
rookie's coming in are obviously three four years younger than
they used to be, and so the experience alone and
the maturity and the physicality and you know they're growing
into their bodies, all those things take taking. You have
to take those into account, and so what we try
to do is expedite the process as much as you
can and get their IQ up and the physical will

(01:49:39):
come when it comes, obviously with these guys being a
little bit a little bit younger. But you know what
I always say is, if you're a smart player or
a smart player, doesn't matter if you're nineteen or if
you're twenty five, and so you will get you will
gain some more things and some more tricks being you know,
being around playing and having the experience. But we want
to try to get the IQ up and obviously the
mental side of the game. And so you're seeing the

(01:50:00):
steps by guys as we go, and we love to
watch that. And like I always say, it takes everybody
different point in their in their career to kind of
hit that light bulb moment. But when you see a
click for guys, as you're seeing with some of our
guys firsthand, it's a great thing. And so we just
want to continue to grow throughout the year and and
guys take those steps like they did last year and
then carry over into this year.

Speaker 3 (01:50:21):
Philadelphia is really struggling. Not that we're feeling sorry for
one coach, but a thought or two look. Injuries are
a large part of the reason why. And you're gonna
have three players out tonight for them as well, is
that the number one thing when you scout them as
you look forward to the night of they just have
not been able to have any sort of cohesive starting
five at any point during the season.

Speaker 8 (01:50:40):
Well, yeah, we see, that's very indicative of their record
with the guys that they have missing. It's you know,
they've had their main three guys out for quite a bit,
but other guys have stepped up. Maxi's back now and
you know what he can do by himself, and so
I have to be really conscious of the other guys
that Stephana McCain is playing well, and then other role
players are going to try to take advantage of. So

(01:51:00):
for us, let's go about our business and be consistent
and played to our standard, not to the level of
who's out there in front of us.

Speaker 3 (01:51:06):
And so we want to see some growth.

Speaker 8 (01:51:09):
On our part, you know, majority of a tough back
to back, and I understand we have a few days
off after this, and so we want to attack that.
And like you said, nobody feels sorry for anybody in
the NBA.

Speaker 3 (01:51:19):
This is just a part of it.

Speaker 8 (01:51:20):
Injuries is a part of it, and scheduling is a
part of it. And so we'll take care of what's
in front of us and try to get one tonight
in Philadelphia.

Speaker 3 (01:51:27):
Well, I don't want you getting teed up tonight, but
you're gonna probably a shorter trigger we're all gonna be
a little crankiers. Just explain to the officials we've got
something to complain about and say, look, I'm working off
for five hours sleep. They'll they'll they'll amend that technically,
there's no chance you're getting one tonight. So I got you.
I hope, I hope we'll get to get a nap
and we'll see you the arena later on and thank
you for the time as always, Thank you guys. We'll

(01:51:48):
see you may Doka with us here on the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross Rockets and seventy six ers playing tonight.
We'll have the broadcast with the launch pad at five o'clock,
Network Pregium at five thirty, and i'll have the call
here from Philadelphia at six pm. All right, coming up,
we got doctor rot in about twenty minutes from now,
we have Connors Rotten five and then Believe It or

(01:52:10):
Not Today is all things about the Thanksgiving meal, variety
of things about everything about Thanksgiving Meal, and we're gonna
do it for a shout out and a seven ninety
T shirt, so you get both today if you want.
Unbelieved it or not, and we'll do that coming up
at about one fifty this afternoon seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero Again. Rockets. Winning that game

(01:52:34):
yesterday with Minnesota puts them at thirteen and six, which
has got to be their best nineteen game start in
at least five or six seasons. And it also advances
into the knockout round of the NBA Tournament, which will
not be uh. We got another week of games to
go and then the tournament starts where you knock it
down to the four teams will be four in each conference,

(01:52:54):
and then if you play the knockout game and win that, uh,
the team will go to Las Vegas to play at
least one game of not too for a chance of
that in season Cup. It's I don't know if that
resonates with you as fans.

Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
It's the goal everybody has before that.

Speaker 5 (01:53:06):
I mean, like it's all remember back in the days
when Hakeem was here, Like they would all be like, man,
if we could get to that knockout round, No, all
people were talking about.

Speaker 7 (01:53:15):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:53:15):
I don't have any editorial control of this, but I'm
going to ask the Rockets. I don't think we I
don't think we raise a banner for an nd season
Cup like the Lakers did.

Speaker 2 (01:53:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:53:27):
It's been it's been a while since we've had anything
to cheer about with the Rockets.

Speaker 2 (01:53:32):
I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Speaker 3 (01:53:35):
I think we should have Like, well, I don't know
if I want a banner, what will be the next
best thing after a banner? After a banner, I don't know.
I mean, hell, if the Texans celebrate AFC South over
and over again, at least I guess the Rockets could
do is raise a banner, right, Yeah, no, you.

Speaker 5 (01:53:55):
Should play some of the best teams in the NBA
if you if you win this, yes, you absolutely celebrate.

Speaker 3 (01:54:00):
Okay? Should I get a commission cut? No winters, Winter's
fee zero?

Speaker 2 (01:54:06):
You get a trip to Vegas?

Speaker 3 (01:54:07):
Thank you? Hey, you're probably right about all right? You
know what, I've changed my mind. You've convinced me let's
raise a banner. Lakers did it?

Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
Why not us?

Speaker 4 (01:54:14):
But you know I'm putting the cart well before the
horse there, all right?

Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety If you
want to get in on the conversation, uh, Texans are
bracket practice today getting ready for Jacksonville. We'll tell you
about some of the things going on over there getting
ready for that game. Um, and we know we had
to do. We should make some predictions on that game.
Who's gonna win that one? It better be Houston or

(01:54:39):
this city's gonna flip out come Monday seven one three, two,
one two five seven NINTI twelve forty three. Matt here
in Philly, Gordy back in Houston on This is Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:54:50):
Good Mornings, Trippers, shower within the Matt Thomas Show, wash
off the glitter and daddy issues.

Speaker 3 (01:55:06):
Jonathan Alexander of The Chronicles says that he's not spotted
Will Anderson Junior a practice yet. You know, I feel
like Gordy that these Wednesday practice are just we should
have zero concerns about Wednesday practice. It's all about Thursday
at the now on the field doing something that we
should start to wig out. Don't you feel that that's
the case now in the NFL this light in the year.

Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
Yeah, Well, it's hard you lose trucking all the days too.

Speaker 5 (01:55:29):
Because I felt though I was chicking my fantasy lineup
last night and I saw a Monroe Saint Brown of
the Lions was he hadn't practiced. I'm like, oh, no,
big deal. Then I realized, oh wait, they play Thursday morning.
So it's you know, you get lost in all the
days with all the moving parts in the NFL. But yeah,
I'm with you. If you're playing on a Sunday and
you're not procting Wednesday, it is no cost for concern.

Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
The Thursday and Friday reports are the most important.

Speaker 3 (01:55:54):
Trevor Lawrence, by the way, practicing today for Jacksonville he
will be probably out there. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 7 (01:56:03):
I think we.

Speaker 3 (01:56:03):
I think we as sports media, and I'm trying to
collectively talk about this as an entire group oh football
fans and apology because remember, Trevor Lawrence was supposed to
be generational talent Gordon and he has done nothing but
just be pedestrian at best. I'm tired of waiting for
him to turn the corner. He's just average.

Speaker 9 (01:56:20):
Period.

Speaker 3 (01:56:21):
In his story, another way around.

Speaker 2 (01:56:22):
It, well, wasn't Wasn't he awesome his rookie year though?

Speaker 3 (01:56:27):
No, I don't think he was.

Speaker 4 (01:56:29):
Let's see what I think it was his second year
that he was a lot better.

Speaker 2 (01:56:33):
Hang on So twenty twenty one was the first year.
In twenty twenty two they made the playoffs. Twenty twenty two, okay,
so year two it was like, oh, the proverbial lights
coming on.

Speaker 3 (01:56:42):
Didn't He had that one game where he threw a
bunch of interceptions in the first half of a game
and then wind up throwing like for four touchdowns in
the second half something like that.

Speaker 2 (01:56:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:56:50):
Yeah, they won a playoff game against the Chargers. Yeah,
but I mean he and then lost in Kansas City
by a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (01:56:58):
Yeah, that was an They went to the end of
a championship game, right.

Speaker 5 (01:57:02):
That was a divisional round division But still like to
go to Kansas City and loose by seven, Well, Texans
have done that. And then they came back the next
year and they went nine to eight. And then last year, yeah,
that was last year. They should have remember they were winning,
they were leading the division much of the year last

(01:57:23):
year m hm, and they should have won. And they
wanted that four game skid towards the end of the year,
and that let the checks open the door for the
Texans and.

Speaker 3 (01:57:30):
The Colts for that matter, for that you think about
that too.

Speaker 5 (01:57:32):
And then I'm just he was banged up a game
here and then you know CJ. Bethard started.

Speaker 2 (01:57:37):
But this year, Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 5 (01:57:38):
I mean up until two weeks ago when Mac Jones
had to make two starts like he's been. He was
healthy for the first eight weeks of the season.

Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
But he I just to me, I think he makes,
you know, like CJ makes throws look easy, I think
Trevor Lawrence makes easy throws more difficult than they're supposed
to be. I think his touch is not And again, Grinn,
I'm ninety percent of the time I've seen Trevor Lawrence
plays because he's playing against the Texans. I mean, I
would never choose to sit and watch a Jacksonville game

(01:58:05):
unless I was being paid to do so. But you
know what I'm saying, I just, man, I think we
all missed on this guy. Either that or he ran
his own plus clippings, or the NFL was just too
big for his bridges, because when he was at Clemson,
it was this guy is not going to be not
only the first pick, he's gonna be you know, Peyton
Mannings out here comes Trevor Lawrence. Tom Brady's retiring, Trevor.

(01:58:27):
This is gonna be Trevor Lawrence's league, and I think
he's just been an average quarterback at best. If I
was starting a team, i'd start I would take C. J.
Strode in a million years over Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 2 (01:58:38):
But look at the misses on quarterbacks.

Speaker 5 (01:58:40):
I mean you go back to twenty twenty, Burrow to
a Justin Herbert and Jordan Love and then by the way,
Jalen Hurts right behind them in the second round, Like,
those are all hits. Burrow to A Herbert, Love and Hurts.
I mean, those are the top five quarterbacks, and those
were all hits. Twenty one was Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson,
Trey Lance, that was your one two throw. Justin Fields

(01:59:01):
was eleventh, he's now a backup. Mac Jones was fifteenth.
He's now backup right, And the rest of your quarterbacks
in that draft suck. Davis Mills included twenty two. You
had one first round pick was Kenny Pickett. Where's he now?

Speaker 3 (01:59:15):
I mean it's been ESPN U games, isn't he?

Speaker 5 (01:59:17):
And then last year was Bryce Shong number one, CJ.
Stroud to Anthony Richardson four, and then Will Levis in
the second round.

Speaker 2 (01:59:25):
It's been. It's been a big ba for quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (01:59:30):
In this year's quarterback Here's the thing, all I've been
told from the people that follow this stuff is that
this year's NFL draft class is not good. You know
what that means? They're gonna be phenomenal this year coming up.

Speaker 5 (01:59:41):
Yeah, Well, look last year, everybody was all aboard the
Caleb Williams side training. He looks he's having a decent
rookie year. But Jaydon Daniels, the way he's played for
the Commanders to turn them around, like you can make
a case he should have been number one. Drake May
has not been much of anything at three. Pennick, who
went eighth overall, hasn't even played because by Kirk Cousins

(02:00:01):
and JJ McCarthy was going to play in Minnesota but
he got hurt. Bownicks at twelve is actually looking pretty good.
He's actually turned it on here, playing pretty decently.

Speaker 3 (02:00:09):
Can we also say something to Sean Paynon's a good
football coach?

Speaker 2 (02:00:14):
Yeah, I mean, if you want to get to the
playoffs and lose every year, yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:00:18):
Kind it feels like that there was the Saints venom
coming out of your pores right there.

Speaker 5 (02:00:22):
Well, he gets all the credit. Look, he did something
nobody could ever do. He brought the Saints a super Bowl.
Outside of that, it was a lot of heartbreaking, like
just gut wrenching playoff Losso.

Speaker 3 (02:00:33):
But do you think if we wouldn't get pulled Denver
Bronco fan, they wouldn't be pleased with where this team
is right now?

Speaker 7 (02:00:37):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (02:00:37):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's primarily the defense though. Bo
Nicks has been good, but he hadn't hurt.

Speaker 3 (02:00:42):
He's not hurt. I mean, let me ask you this,
bow Knicks, Trevor Lawrence. I gotta win a game in December?
What am I going with?

Speaker 2 (02:00:48):
I'm probably taking bo Nix right here?

Speaker 3 (02:00:50):
Yeah, yeah, I think you are bow Knicks or Drake May.
I gotta win a game in December. Who am I
going with?

Speaker 9 (02:01:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:01:00):
O Necks?

Speaker 5 (02:01:05):
What's Atlanta doing with Pennix? Just Penix is already like
twenty five twenty six.

Speaker 3 (02:01:09):
Well, by the way, you cannot talk to a Falcon
fan about that pick. They'll get mad at you. We
have our reasons for this, We know what we were doing. Yeah,
and you overpaid Kirk Cousins, like he's been overpaid everywhere
he's been.

Speaker 2 (02:01:23):
He's been fine, they're okay.

Speaker 3 (02:01:26):
I mean there, you know, it's a it's an utterly
to winnable division. It's the NFC South. It's a joke.

Speaker 4 (02:01:30):
I mean, generally speaking, the AFC South is a joke.

Speaker 2 (02:01:33):
I'm look, you see what the jack Jags have done
this year? Good god, their defense is awful.

Speaker 3 (02:01:38):
Yeah, they spent a lot of money on the ski
position players. Last year hasn't panned out. I mentioned Lawrence
got a new deal a couple of years back. That
hasn't been great.

Speaker 5 (02:01:46):
They have no run game. Uh, ATN and and and
Tank Bigsby have been I mean they've just been. Bigsby
has been fine, but ATN for being a first round pick,
he has not lived up to the hype.

Speaker 3 (02:01:58):
Like who is our big surprise team in the NFL
this year? Big big surprise. Detroit were not surprised by
Philodelphia're not surprised by maybe the Chargers being competitive because
of Jim Harball's first year. But you know, they had
some pieces.

Speaker 5 (02:02:12):
Commanders have slid a little bit. They've lost there in
a row, but they're seven and five. That's nobody had that.

Speaker 3 (02:02:17):
Yeah. All right, before we get to doctor Rottell, let's
talk to Larry with us at twelve fifty five on seven. Hi, Larry,
I'm just annoyed.

Speaker 11 (02:02:26):
I just.

Speaker 19 (02:02:28):
Larry?

Speaker 3 (02:02:30):
Is that your girl? She annoyed about something? This guy
just called one second ago? What are they doing back there?

Speaker 2 (02:02:44):
Larry?

Speaker 3 (02:02:45):
The dumb button on? Just in case? Larry? Oh here
we go, Oh, here we go. He's got a Larry.

Speaker 13 (02:02:55):
How about how y'all do today? Larry?

Speaker 3 (02:02:57):
Why is your girl annoyed? Why is your girlfriend annoyed?

Speaker 19 (02:03:03):
My girlfriend? I don't have a girl bred, So.

Speaker 4 (02:03:06):
Well, who's gonna call you?

Speaker 3 (02:03:07):
We heard a girl? We just heard a girl complain
about she's annoyed about something? What's her what's her problem?

Speaker 19 (02:03:12):
I got two daughters in my truck and I don't
know Georgia. What are you annoyed about? S? We had
to take her dog to a vet today, so that
probably which she's annoyed a bet?

Speaker 3 (02:03:24):
All right? Well hopefull the dog will be okay.

Speaker 19 (02:03:26):
Oh she's gonna be fine.

Speaker 13 (02:03:28):
Meet mine?

Speaker 19 (02:03:29):
Uh man? What are these Texans gonna do with that
offensive line?

Speaker 11 (02:03:33):
God?

Speaker 19 (02:03:33):
They can either run block or pass block, but they
can't do both. Just seem you know, they can either
do one really well or they can't yell horrible Jesus.

Speaker 13 (02:03:43):
Christ, Larry.

Speaker 3 (02:03:50):
That you are telling me how it is. I appreciate
that they can't pass block. They have to pass blocked.
The months the run block has been up and down.
I'll give you that.

Speaker 19 (02:03:59):
Yeah, I mean they they they lost me a bunch
of money this last week.

Speaker 4 (02:04:03):
Lord, what are you doing on the side or what
you got a bookie?

Speaker 19 (02:04:08):
Well?

Speaker 3 (02:04:09):
Hell yeah, maybe that's why your daughter's annoyed. She's she's
losing a Christmas wasn't to be you because you're betting
all this money on the side.

Speaker 19 (02:04:18):
She makes more money than I do, so.

Speaker 4 (02:04:21):
Well, then help her pay the bookie off. Then let's
go get.

Speaker 19 (02:04:25):
Thank you go. Uh what do y'all do for Thanksgiving?

Speaker 12 (02:04:29):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (02:04:29):
We're gonna eat turkey, stuffing, watch three football games and
then I'm going to Utah and Friday, what are you
gonna do?

Speaker 19 (02:04:37):
We're gonna go to my fits law have Thanksgiving? Yeah,
eating turkey and stuff and yeah, gon be family time
and you'll be all good.

Speaker 3 (02:04:46):
All right, We'll go get that dog, take care of
that dog and let us know how things work on Hey, hey.

Speaker 19 (02:04:51):
Are them take is gonna win? And get the co
I'm doubling down.

Speaker 7 (02:04:57):
On them so they better.

Speaker 3 (02:04:59):
Okay, we'll don't risk don't risk your daughter's future on
that she makes more money.

Speaker 13 (02:05:06):
You know what that was?

Speaker 3 (02:05:07):
That was like a phone call for an old friend, Gordon.
I don't even know who there is, but I feel
like we're very tight.

Speaker 2 (02:05:12):
Like call it.

Speaker 3 (02:05:12):
I'm just calling to check in. What y'all doing for
the holiday?

Speaker 14 (02:05:14):
Do it?

Speaker 19 (02:05:16):
You know?

Speaker 4 (02:05:16):
We got to do a segment cup, what y'all doing?

Speaker 7 (02:05:18):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (02:05:18):
You know marsh he's got to go to the vent again.

Speaker 3 (02:05:20):
You know, Gordy, what are you doing?

Speaker 4 (02:05:23):
You're going You're gonna hang out with the in laws, right, Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:05:26):
And then I'm gonna stuff up on turkey early so
I can fall asleep when we see Cooper Rush versus
Tommy DeVito.

Speaker 3 (02:05:33):
The chance of me watching that entire Dallas Giants game
is zero percent. Who's somebody's performed at halftime though, Um,
you know what, I could even guess the Texans will
have what's that the Christmas Day game against Yeah, Beyonce, yea.
That isn't going too well. Apparently we need to bring

(02:05:56):
back Creed.

Speaker 5 (02:05:57):
That was one of the most epic Thanksgiving Day performance
a Dallas Cowboys stadium Creed.

Speaker 2 (02:06:03):
Yeah you hear better than Beyonce. Yes, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (02:06:11):
All right, end this first end this hour of the show.
Talk like Creed, go ahead, you can do it.

Speaker 5 (02:06:17):
Coming up hour two, it's uh, Matt will take you higher.

Speaker 3 (02:06:27):
Get your fantasy football adviz?

Speaker 4 (02:06:32):
Can you take Rono high?

Speaker 3 (02:06:36):
All right, that's enough.

Speaker 2 (02:06:37):
I'm six spots from the edge of the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (02:06:42):
By way, it's my last year fans football. Did you
know this? Gordia, I'm done after this.

Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
I think we're all done.

Speaker 3 (02:06:46):
I think we're all done. Rono is up to start
the next hour of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
Gordy and back in Houston. I'm here in Philly on
Sports Talk seven eighty.

Speaker 1 (02:06:56):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas. You can't start rotting
without his name.

Speaker 7 (02:07:02):
Centro.

Speaker 9 (02:07:03):
Here we go.

Speaker 2 (02:07:14):
Waiver claims.

Speaker 20 (02:07:17):
Have to be made, and I've got trade proposals fly
in my way.

Speaker 3 (02:07:27):
My first round pig turned out to be a big flop.
I don't know which.

Speaker 20 (02:07:34):
Wide receiver I need to drive. Doctor roto give me
the news. I really don't know what I should do.
My quarterback keeps getting sacked. I've got a bad cass
of fired to see Blue.

Speaker 3 (02:07:57):
Will now the fastest thirty minute the major market radio
begins with our good friend, the one and only, Doctor Roto.
Happy early Thanksgiving, Doctor Roto. These are some interesting games.
I wouldn't say must watch, especially that middle game between
the Giants and the Cowboys. But that's why we bring
you on, because you're gonna find us value in two
dog crap teams playing the middle on Thanksgiving.

Speaker 9 (02:08:19):
Day and a happy Thanksgiving to you. It's all the
listeners to everybody out there. Yeah, this is one of
those you know, when the wife is giving you the
evil eye and saying, maybe the football game shouldn't beyond
during Thanksgiving. You can you can say all, I understand, honey.
You know we could shut it off from maybe a
quarter or two and not have to watch the Giants
and Cowboys. But I don't know if you saw Drew

(02:08:39):
Locke is getting the start, Tommy DeVito is out, and
I fully expect that, and I think that's going to
help Malik Neighbors because the Giants did not get him
one one reception of the first half last week. I
mean that is criminal, and he look he got angry
at it. And I don't blame him. And you know
what Carl Banks said, he wants twenty one give me
twenty one neighbors. You want guys who are pissed off

(02:09:00):
about not getting the football. So I think this is
a neighbors week. I think this is a Tyrone Tracy week.
I think Rico Dawdles firmly in play, and I think
Ceedee Lamb is firmly in play. After that, it's a crapshoot.

Speaker 3 (02:09:13):
We have teased about the fact in years past that
Miami goes to cold weather places and they just don't
do well. Remember there was a playoff game in Kansas City.
I don't know how long ago it was, but they
just looked completely out of sync. They're playing on a
Thursday night, Tomorrow night in Green Bay. In the night
temperature is probably in the twenties. Two US done well.
They've won three straight games. Are you a little concerned

(02:09:36):
about Miami skill position players playing in the thunder?

Speaker 19 (02:09:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (02:09:40):
You know, Look, gambling trends exist because they occur, right,
So I mean, when it's a below certain temperature to
what this up from, very well, I think it's like
forty six degrees or something like that, and I think
You're right, You're probably looking at high twenties, low thirties
at best. This is a bad matchup for Miami. Right
You've got Josh Jacobs and they are love and running
the ball right now in Green Bay. They're a run

(02:10:02):
first team. Miami sometimes can't deal with the run very well.
If the Packers can establish the run, then it's gonna
set up Jordan Love for some play action passing. And
I think Miami's in big trouble.

Speaker 14 (02:10:12):
You know.

Speaker 9 (02:10:13):
Do I like Tyreek Hill? Yeah, I mean, of course
I like Tyreek Hill, But I just think that I
don't want to tell people to bench a Chan and Tyreek.
I don't like Jalen Wattle. I don't think he's gonna
have another week like he did last week. I think
that you're gonna have to wait on that one. John
ou Smith is in play, but look, I've got two
in a league. I'm benching him. I just don't feel comfortable.
But I think you're starting Jacobs, You're starting Jayden Reid,

(02:10:34):
You're starting a Chan, You're starting Tyreek and hoping for
the best from those guys.

Speaker 3 (02:10:38):
Chicago Detroit gets things started for us. Is there any
part of you that says the Detroits. And look when
Jared Goff throws five interceptions that might have been the
down week and they still survived to beat the Texans. Obviously,
is there any party that says that they're not gonna
be slowed down at any point? And would it be
this week or are they expecting a more high octam
from them? Offensively?

Speaker 9 (02:11:00):
This is a high our tang game, right this is
this is the Bears on Thanksgiving against the Lions, a
fired up crowd. You know, Lions always play really well
at home, or at least I how recently, this feels
to me like it's a lot for Caleb Williams to handle.
The Detroit runs a lot of man coverage. Caleb doesn't
do great event with man coverage. He's been better recently.
Getting rid of the offensive coordinator has helped. And I

(02:11:24):
know there's the DeAndre Swift revenge narrative. I'm just not
buying into that. So can you start Dj Moore?

Speaker 14 (02:11:29):
Yes?

Speaker 9 (02:11:29):
Can you start? Keatan Allen? Absolutely? Can you start Caleb Williams.
I guess if you're desperate, you probably can. I don't
really like Swift. On the other side, I'm worried about
David Montgomery. He left last week with a shoulder injury,
so this could be a Jamior Gibbs featured week, right,
So you have him, you got Saint Brown, and I
think that the Chicago will do whatever they can to

(02:11:50):
neutralize Saint Brown. But you still have Jamison Williams on
the outside, and you still have Sam Laporta, who's finally healthy.
So get gibbson more of my favorite two guys in
this The rest are more peripheral, but I mean all playable.

Speaker 3 (02:12:04):
Gardner Minshew's out for the season. Friday night or Friday afternoon,
it's that Black Friday game in Kansas City? Is there
anybody from the Raiders were playing in this? Bad Boy?
And well the Chiefs get out to a big lead
and maybe resting folks or how do you anticipate this
going down this week?

Speaker 9 (02:12:20):
So I think the answer to both questions is yes.
I mean, look, I like Aidan O'Connell more than I
like Gardner Minshew. I thought amconnell should have started at
the beginning of the season. I mean, he's not great,
but he doesn't make mistakes like Minshew does. Minshew just
makes a lot of dumb errors. Brock Bauers is firmly
in play one thousand percent. The Chiefs do not cover
the tight end well. Bowers may be one of the
best players this week. So I love Jakobe Meyers not

(02:12:42):
as much to it. We don't really know yet whether
Madison or White play. I think they do.

Speaker 3 (02:12:46):
But a mirabdool was a thing, right.

Speaker 9 (02:12:48):
He's a receiving back, and I think that he's somebody
that if desperate like last week. I mean, I know
I played him a couple of weeks in a couple
of leagues. I think he's playable. On the other side, Look,
I love the Chiefs. Pacheco is expected back. I think
he's going to be involved, maybe fifteen to eighteen touches.
Kareem Hunt is still there. I think they'll both share Kelsey.
We haven't seen him in the end zone a while.
I think he does score against the Raiders, and then

(02:13:10):
this is a chance between Hopkins Worthy, you know, to
get that passing game going. We really haven't seen it
be at that high level yet. They're trying to get
Worthy involved. Maybe this is the week he finally scores.

Speaker 4 (02:13:23):
Game of the week is the Eagles at the Ravens Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (02:13:26):
With two very tough back to back road games at
Buffalo and then the cross country trip to the Chargers.
They look like they were high octane. Were you blown
away as I was, how explosive the Ravens were, especially
in that second half against the Chargers on Monday Night?

Speaker 11 (02:13:42):
I was.

Speaker 9 (02:13:43):
And you got to give a little credit to Bill Belichick.
I don't know if people watch the Manning cast. I
do because I liked learning from those guys and listening
to them, and you know, Belichick. There was a point
whereas fourth and one in, Belichick goes I would have
kicked the field goal to go up two scores.

Speaker 2 (02:13:56):
He was right.

Speaker 9 (02:13:56):
You needed every score you possibly could get against that
Baltimore Ravens team. So the Ravens. The key to this game,
in my opinion, is going to be the health of
DeVonta Smith. When DeVonta Smith is out, which he very
well could be with a hamstring injury. Now you've I mean,
John Dotson, Johnny Wilson not good enough, right, You've got
aj Brown, who's a sessational matchup and one of the

(02:14:18):
best starts of this week. But they're gonna be able
to double cover him. So yes, you're starting Saquon. Yes,
you're starting Hurts, Yes you're starting Goddard, But I think
not having DeVonta Smith is going to be big for
the Eagles, which is going to make this game much
easier for Baltimore and Baltimore is I mean, sorry, the
Eagles have been stingy against the pass, but it matter.
You've got Derrick Henry there and then you've got Flowers

(02:14:41):
and Andrews has played so much better, and now Rashon
Bateman is emerging. Deontay Johnson can think about this empty.
How good has this guy been? He's barely played. So
I think you start all your Ravens in this game,
but for this game to really explode, you need DeVonta
Smith in there.

Speaker 3 (02:14:57):
All right, Titans, Commanders, Commanders, We are struggling as of late.
Lost that game on a last second to missed extra point.
Titans came to Houston and shock the world even though
the Titans aren't going in the playoffs. Did you gain
any fantasy value with will Levis's performance last week, especially
when he got the ball in the air.

Speaker 9 (02:15:17):
Yeah, the last three weeks. Will Levis has been much
better the last three weeks, and this team is better
when Spears said to say this. When he's out, they
feature Pollard, So then it becomes Levis, Pollard, and Ridley,
three guys you could start in fantasy, no problem. I
think will Levis has earned that at this point. Is
he great?

Speaker 15 (02:15:34):
No?

Speaker 9 (02:15:35):
I mean maybe he's a Jameis Winston type. He makes
a lot of good plays. He makes a lot of
poonehead plays. It happens right now. The other side here,
Washington has felt like I was watching North Dallas forty.
You get down, you score the touchdown, and you blow
the extra point. I mean that sucked. But I love
Terry McClure in this week. I think he's firmly in play.
The big question is this Eckler took a big shot

(02:15:55):
at the end of the game. He could be out.
Brian Robinson dealing with an ankle at knee injury. You
might have Jeremy McNichols starting. If that happens, this game's
gonna be a lot closer than people think.

Speaker 3 (02:16:06):
All right, last, and before I go to the phones,
Joe Mixon's feast or famine. It feels like, tell me
about what he can do this week, and any Texans
players you want to use against that Jacksonville run defense,
and then tell me about the impact of Trevor Lawrence
returning the lineup for the Jags this Sunday.

Speaker 9 (02:16:24):
Well, look, for fantasy purposes, we want games that go
back and forth, you know, bringing mac Jones there, you
don't get the back and forth. We want Trevor Lawrence
to play. As fantasy managers, we want them to score
because it's better for our teams. Maybe not our real
life team, but better for our fantasy teams. Joe Nixon's
a the great start this week. I mean, look, how
good has he been all year? He should be an
MVP contention. I think you're starting him. I think you're

(02:16:46):
starting Stroud and Nico Collins is a fantastic start. On
the other side of the football, I think you always
are gonna play etn You're gonna play Evan Ingram. I
believe Lawrence will start, and Brian Thomas Junior has been
a special talent. I think we're gonna enjoy watching him
too this week.

Speaker 3 (02:17:03):
All right, you got any questions or comments for Doctor Rotal,
get him in right now. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven nine zero Your chance to talk to doctor
row Is. Next, He's with us to the bottom of
the hour. This is Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 10 (02:17:22):
Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:17:26):
Got a lot of folks that want to get in.
I got a lot of emails.

Speaker 3 (02:17:29):
We gotta go quick on this roar. We got people
to need your help badly. Clips on email. Three of
these receivers start more Wattle, Dell, Dubbs, Watson, Jennings. My god,
three those, I'll go again. More Wattle, Dell, Dobbs, Watson, Jennings.

Speaker 9 (02:17:50):
All right, DJ Moore, Yes, Tank, Dell, Yes, Wattle. I
don't like in the cold and Green Bay. Jennings could
be in a snowstorm in Buffalo. I'm worried about that.
So I'm thinking I'm gonna go Watson over Dobbs. Dobbs
left last week's game with an injury. Watched that closely.
If Dobbs is out, Watson would.

Speaker 14 (02:18:09):
Firmly be in for me.

Speaker 3 (02:18:10):
All right, to or c J. Stroud.

Speaker 9 (02:18:13):
I don't trust to it in the cold and Green Bay.

Speaker 3 (02:18:16):
Give me c J.

Speaker 9 (02:18:16):
Stroud all day.

Speaker 4 (02:18:17):
Aaron Jones, David Montgomery.

Speaker 9 (02:18:21):
Montgomery left last week's game with a shoulder injury. So
I believe we're going to see more Gibbs. That doesn't
mean we're not going to see Montgomery. I just think
that Aaron Jones at home against the Cardinals, great.

Speaker 3 (02:18:32):
Start golf or Mahomes?

Speaker 9 (02:18:37):
WHOA, that's a tough one empty. I remember that one
last week. You know, a GoF played well, he just
didn't have the touchdown passes. I'm thinking that that Gough
throws at least two at home. Gimme GoF at home
in a higher scoring team.

Speaker 4 (02:18:55):
Do you start cooking Alan in the snow with Jared
Goff on the bench.

Speaker 9 (02:19:02):
Wow, I think I start. I'm gonna start golf over
Allen Close. But I'm gonna start golf over Allen. I'm
gonna start James cook all the time. I mean, the
Bills are a running team. The Bills are no longer
a passing team. They're more of a running and a
quick throw team than they are the passing team, especially
in that kind of crappy weather.

Speaker 3 (02:19:20):
All Right, two of these guys played Donnell, Tracy cup
or Harrison Junior. Two of the four play.

Speaker 9 (02:19:27):
Give me the give me the two receivers, and we'll
talk about one of those two during the Walk of
the Week.

Speaker 3 (02:19:31):
All right, very good, let's lights teaze right there to
the phones we go. Let's talk to some people. Colin
Impairreland for doctor Roto at one twenty two. Hi, Colin, Hey, guys,
I got a bow Nick or Kyler Murray.

Speaker 9 (02:19:47):
Uh, it's a really good question here. So, I mean,
the Browns are good defense, but Bonnick's playing at high level.
My problem with Kyler Murray is this, the Vikings are
going to pressure him like you wouldn't believe, and I
don't no if he plays so well in pressure. That
being said, if he can use his mobility, he's gonna
have a lot of one on one opportunities. So I

(02:20:08):
think Kyler is the higher upside play floor is the
higher Knicks is the higher floor play. If you understand
what I'm talking about there, Nicks is gonna get you
about eighteen point. Kyler could get your fourteen, but they
could get you twenty four if you need the points
if you're playing a tough team. I think Godleen Kyler.

Speaker 4 (02:20:25):
Let's go to rich In Kingwood at one twenty two
for Doctor Rhodial.

Speaker 15 (02:20:29):
Go ahead, rich Hey, I got the Higgins, Harrison Junior
and Sutton.

Speaker 3 (02:20:34):
Too need to start.

Speaker 9 (02:20:37):
Yeah, I'm gonna play p Higgins. I think the Bengals
z in Steelers game is gonna be higher scoring than
people think. Look, I like Sutton. Sutton has done nothing wrong,
and I think he's just more reliable right now than Harrison.
I like Harrison, he's good players young, But I mean
Sutton is a firm number one. And let me ask
you this question, if we had a draft over again,
would bow Nix not be a weekly starter? He absolutely

(02:20:58):
would be. He's been fantastic this year.

Speaker 3 (02:21:00):
Yeah, we were just talking about that earlier in the show.
As a matter of fact, let's go to Tray and
Katie for doctor Rotal Hi tre Hey, doc PPR League.

Speaker 19 (02:21:10):
I need want Laporta, Taysom Hill or Will Disley.

Speaker 9 (02:21:15):
So look, there was just a report yesterday that Darren Rizzy,
the Saints coach, loves how they're using Taysom Hill. I
love how they're using Taysom Hill. I mean, when he's
on the field, they are a better team. Whether you
like him or not, whether he kills your fantasy hopes
or dreams or not. He catches, Sammy runs, Somemmy throws
some I don't know how you bench Taysom Hill at
this point, and I know Disleey's been good, and I

(02:21:37):
know Laporte is a good player, but Taysom Hill could
put up thirty five points. What other time they could
do that?

Speaker 3 (02:21:45):
All right, thank you for that.

Speaker 4 (02:21:46):
Let's go to BJ on seven, ounting for doctor Rodal.

Speaker 3 (02:21:49):
Go ahead, BJ, all right.

Speaker 21 (02:21:52):
So I'm currently sitting with Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert
and Tua.

Speaker 13 (02:21:56):
I really need a running back and a receiver.

Speaker 9 (02:21:58):
Do I trade Lamar Jackson to build up on my
receivers and running backs and take a chance at two?

Speaker 7 (02:22:06):
Do I keep?

Speaker 2 (02:22:07):
I think you trade Tua.

Speaker 9 (02:22:08):
I think you trade Tua, who's had a couple of
really good games. I think you try to win with Lamar.
I mean, Lamar is going to be off next week anyway,
so I mean, if you're trying to pull a fast one,
I get it. But I think I'm trading Tua. I'm
gonna play Herbert likely this week and next week, and
then you play with Lamar in the playoffs, and you
try to win with Lamar.

Speaker 4 (02:22:27):
All right, Thanks BJ for the phone call. Let's go
to Jimmy and Tom Ball on seven.

Speaker 11 (02:22:30):
Hoey, Hi, Jimmy, Hey, guys, Thanksgiving, I need to play
two of the three in my led half PPR Marmon
Harrison Junior, Dit Chubb and White A Ben.

Speaker 9 (02:22:44):
Yeah, we're definitely playing Rashad White. We're definitely playing him.
Carolina just lets up tons of yards to running backs
and Tampa Bay has two great ones. Bucky Irving is
a weekly starter. If you don't think so, you're not
watching those games closely. Bucky Irving is fantastic, and Rashad
White is firmly in play. Look, this is a tougher
one here because Nick Chubb doesn't catch the football, just
doesn't and Jamis has been throwing a lot. So Nick

(02:23:07):
Chubb is touchdown dependent. That's something that's scary on the
road in Denver. I mean we could be looking at
fifteen for forty. Now. If he scores a touchdown, he
got ten points. But if he doesn't score, you got four.
I think he got to play Marvin Harrison all right?

Speaker 3 (02:23:22):
From Twitter?

Speaker 4 (02:23:23):
Love or Richardson at quarterback this week?

Speaker 9 (02:23:27):
Oh man? I mean that's that's not pretty empty. I
think I'm gonna go Jordan Love. Do we really trust
Richardson at this point? And do we trust him in
the wind in New England. I don't think we can to. Dude,
only completed what twelve passes last week? I think you
gotta play Jordan Love all.

Speaker 4 (02:23:41):
Right, back to Jacksonville for a second.

Speaker 3 (02:23:44):
If are you playing Lawrence with the Texans defense giving
up as many big plays they've done so far this year.

Speaker 9 (02:23:50):
Look, he's not a focused point of mind, but if
he's certainly play a ball. I mean I think that
he's got a you know, maybe a top ten top
not a top fifteen matchup. Right, So, right now, the
Jaguars are expected to score about nineteen points by Las Vegas.
It's two touchdowns? Do I think Lawrence goes like to
fifteen and one?

Speaker 3 (02:24:08):
Yes?

Speaker 9 (02:24:08):
Is not going to help you win your league? Probably not?

Speaker 3 (02:24:11):
All right?

Speaker 4 (02:24:11):
Last one we go to Jerry and Katie on seven
ninety for doctor rodal Hi.

Speaker 3 (02:24:15):
Jerry, Hey, so do.

Speaker 14 (02:24:19):
When I start Nick Chubb and Jonathan Taylor has been
only performing lately? Or to lay steak with Jonathan Taylor?
And then the other question I have, Yeah, the other
question I have is so brought party to her and
Tula that's the best quarterback I how available in the way?

Speaker 11 (02:24:34):
Right?

Speaker 9 (02:24:35):
Yeah, I mean, look, you go as to A, mainly
because Party A would be in the snow and B
is not one hundred percent, So I think you do that.
To answer your other question, New England has not been
good against the run to happen, so I think this
could be a Jonathan Taylor week once again with Nick Chubb.
It's not that I don't like Chubb. I just don't
like him against Denver. Denver's played really good football. Let's

(02:24:58):
get Sean Payton all the credit in the world for
bringing his A game to Denver. They looked light years
better than the last year, right, But I think it's
Taylor in a game that the Colts should be able
to win.

Speaker 3 (02:25:10):
Ladies and gentlemen, we asked doctor roto once a week
to give us an absolute knockdown hit for us in
our fantasy leagues. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you
Doctor Rod's lock of the Week MT.

Speaker 9 (02:25:25):
I know we watched Poka Nakua play real well last week.
It was fantastic, but I think it goes back to
Cooper Cup. New Orleans against slot receivers have been the
worst team in football. This is one of those games
where Cooper Cupp just you know, piles on the points.
I think Cooper Cup goes eight for eighty a touchdown
and I'm locking them.

Speaker 3 (02:25:44):
In, Ladies and gentlemen, that is Doctor Rots. So we're
actually gonna have to pay attention to the Rams and
Saints game this week, and you're telling us to do
Taysom Hill and Cooper Cup.

Speaker 9 (02:25:57):
Let's go?

Speaker 3 (02:25:58):
Okay, sound thrilling? Can't wait? All right? Look, are we
gonna bother you tomorrow? Or are we gonna let Rodo
in the family eat their turkey in peace?

Speaker 7 (02:26:09):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (02:26:10):
Probably a little bit of both. I might answer a
couple of questions somewhere around noon, and then I've spent
some time with the family. But listen, good news. Beginning
on Saturday. If you enter you go to doctor roto
dot com and you enter the promo code playoffs, you
get a free week of the web of the website. Okay,

you go, my man, have a great, safe, happy, eat
a lot of Thanksgiving and we'll get back to our
normal Thursday spot next week. To you and yours MTV,
well pick him, Thank you. That's a good our, buddy,
Doctor Roto with us here on Sports Talk seven. Hoy,

(02:27:00):
ladies and gentlemen. It takes absolutely no ability wants soever
to tell you who the five best teams are in
the NFL Kansas City, Detroit, Philadelphia. I mean I want
to know who the five crappiest teams are. Well, since
the man who normally handles that crap is out and
God knows where he is, Connor D McGovern's gonna step
in again with a fantasy with the Rotten Five. It's
up next, believe it or not. Today all things about Thanksgiving,

(02:27:23):
food and items associated with Thanksgiving and that is coming
up in about twenty minutes from now. But the Rotten
Five is up next. After I tell you about Sethie's
fine jewelry. I know your lady does not want a
sweater for Christmas. I know your girlfriend does not want
a gift card. She wants fine diamond jewelry, and you're

(02:27:46):
going to help her with that. You're gonna go to
set These Fine Jewelry where everything is forty percent off,
I repeat, forty percent off the fine diamond jewelry that
she so richly deserves. Please do me a favor and
go to Sethi's Fine Jewelry on Valse Rod between Sample
at Ben West Timer, where you'll get great selection. You'll
find time in tennis bracelets, dimeon engagement rings. If you're
going to pop the question this holiday season, why not

(02:28:07):
do it with the best diamonds you'll find in City Houston.
And that's all at Sethie's Fine Jewelry. Seth These Fine
Jewelry forty percent off sale. Get into later today, get
in maybe on Friday, this weekend, and all during the
hop holiday shopping season for forty percent off their biggest
holiday sale ever. It's at Sethi's Fine Jewelry Voss Rod
between Sampalype and West Timer. It is one thirty five

(02:28:37):
of the Mott Thomas Show with Ross from Philadelphia seven
one three two one two five Sevanai. You'll want to
use that number for Believe it or Not coming up
in just a few minutes The category today is all
things about Thanksgiving and food. Thanksgiving and food, and that'll
be the topic we'll be playing for shoutouts and for
seven ninety T shirts. That in itself is a great value,

(02:28:59):
right The Thanksgiving shout out is one of the things
that's most cherished in the Houston sports radio landscape. You know,
it's also a big thing is trying to figure out
who the five crappiest teams are in the NFL. No
other radio show in the marketplace is gonna give it
to you. We've been doing this for years and we're
going to continue to do it. It's a time on
or tradition, death taxes and the Rotten Five.

Speaker 13 (02:29:22):
They've gone there, they draw flies.

Speaker 1 (02:29:28):
Riz Ross's Rotten Five.

Speaker 2 (02:29:31):
This don't smell quite right? All right, now, let's get
into another edition of Connor's Rotten Five.

Speaker 3 (02:29:38):
Love it.

Speaker 16 (02:29:39):
The New York Jets didn't even play a football game
this week, but the stress level of every single Jets
fan has been raised after the firing of general manager
Joe Douglass and yet another drastic in season move. You
already fired your head coach, and now there's rumors that
Aaron Rodgers could be placed on ir even bench for
the rest of the season. You went seven to ten
last year with Zacha Wilson as the quarterback for most
of those games. Now you're sitting at three. I can't

(02:30:00):
believe one of those wins is against the Texans. They
just have yet to score thirty points in a game.
We know the future of Aaron We don't know the
future of Aaron Rodgers. We don't know who the Jets
can draft to say the struggling organization. All we know
is that the New York Jets are the fifth worst
team in the NFL. The stadium is actually in New Jersey,

(02:30:25):
New England. Patriots spent some time off the rotten five
after an encouraging two and two stretch with wins over
the Jets and the Bears. But the Patriots have returned
after losing thirty four to fifteen to the Miami Dolphins.
While the offense saw a slight improvement with Drake May
taking over a quarterback in Week six, you wouldn't have
been able to tell on Sunday, as the Patriots were
down thirty one to zero by the fourth quarter before
some meaningless scores late in garbage time. Hard to find

(02:30:47):
success on offense with seven first half penalties, six of
them pre snap. Just asks the Texans, Just ask the Texans.
The defense needs some work. Ranking thirty first in the league.
Is Drodmeo staying as head coach? I don't know can
stick with Drake may as their gem, but they've got
to build around him in the offseason. But for now,
the New England Patriots are the fourth worst team in
the NFL.

Speaker 3 (02:31:08):
I'm the coach. I think what's best for the football team.
I don't know why we can't understand that.

Speaker 16 (02:31:14):
Bill, give it up. You're not the coach anymore. You
know what's tough to watch your team when the most
consistent player is your punter. That is the case for
the Jacksonville Jaguars. Punter Logan Cook leads the NFL and
net punting average is second yards per punt and has
placed nine punts inside the ten yardland And oh my gosh,
I can literally hear our listeners turning the channel right now.
The Jaguars are another team that didn't play a football

(02:31:35):
game last week, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve
to be taken off the rotten five plus. Last week,
they suffered their worst loss in franchise history with the
Lions putting up fifty two points. They've got the Texans
in Jacksonville this Sunday, so for our sakes here in Houston,
hopefully they're lower on this list by next week. Jacksonville
currently having the best odds to get the first pick
in the NFL Draft for the third time in a

(02:31:56):
five year span, if things can continue to spiral get
to The Jaguars reached the sty championship game in twenty seventeen,
but things fell apart, so they rebuilt with Trevor Lawrence.
They had a strong season twenty twenty two, but if
crashed and burned yet again, having lost fourteen of their
past seventeen games. Head coach Doug Petterson and general manager
Trent balk are fighting for their jobs. Trevor Lawrence to

(02:32:18):
just be shut down for the rest of the season
and Mac Jones can keep the Jacksonville Jaguars where they
are as the third worst team in the NFL.

Speaker 9 (02:32:25):
Oh, we've been strong.

Speaker 1 (02:32:26):
We're just playing by the rules.

Speaker 2 (02:32:28):
Yeah, yeah, whatever, Jaguars.

Speaker 3 (02:32:29):
You met her yet, have you?

Speaker 19 (02:32:31):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:32:31):
I haven't have you met her. I want you to
imagine what she looks like.

Speaker 16 (02:32:38):
I've spent a little a lot of time at Point Blank,
Texas and around Lake Livingston.

Speaker 2 (02:32:42):
I feel like, yeah, she'd fit in well there.

Speaker 3 (02:32:44):
Yeah. I mean she's got a cigarette hanging on her mouth,
she's missing a couple of teeth that they are dark
and brown, a big mole somewhere on her face, oh
for sure. Yeah, and coughs up a lunk. She's got
smoker's cough. Yeah.

Speaker 16 (02:32:57):
No, I uh yeah, those existing Point By Texas. Anyway,
I guess who's staying right where? They are a number
two on the Rotten five. I'll give you a hint
that they lost twenty nine to nineteen to the Denver
Broncos and are on a seven game losing streak.

Speaker 2 (02:33:10):
You got it.

Speaker 16 (02:33:10):
As the Las Vegas Raiders, the quarterback situation couldn't be worse,
as Gardner Minshew suffered a season ending injury on Sunday.
Aidan O'Connell is set to return to the starting lineup
after recovering from his own injury. But they've got the
Chiefs on Black Friday, the first time these two teams
face each other this season. The Chiefs won by only
a touchdown, and last year, the Raiders, who are struggling
as much as they were now stunned the Chiefs on

(02:33:32):
Christmas Day, So I guess anything is possible.

Speaker 2 (02:33:35):
But if you don't believe in eight.

Speaker 16 (02:33:36):
In O'Connell, you can't really rely on the run game,
as the Raiders have the worst rushing attack in the NFL.
Find a quarterback that can get Brock Bauers the ball,
but until then, the Las Vegas Raiders are still the
second worst team in the NFL. It turns out Tommy
DeVito is not the Messia New York needed last week,
as the Giants lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers thirty

(02:33:57):
to seven last Sunday. The Giants really Daniel Jones last week,
but we all kind of scratched our heads when the
Giants skipped over back up Drew Locke to named de
Vito as the starter, but it didn't work out anyway.
After playing scout team safety, Daniel Jones became a free
agent on Monday and actually just signed with the Minnesota Vikings,
so he's left New York behind. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers out
gained the Giants but more than two hundred yards and

(02:34:18):
had Baker Mayfield Mayfield mocking to Vito's celebration that took
the football football world by storm last season. I mean,
you have your star rookie wide receiver Molik Neighbors, not
hiding his displeasure with the team. This is Neighbors post
game after the loss to the Bucks.

Speaker 3 (02:34:32):
I mean, obviously it ain't the quarterback.

Speaker 19 (02:34:34):
The same homecome when we had DJ at quarterback.

Speaker 13 (02:34:37):
I mean, take a look, take a look. It ain't
the quarterback.

Speaker 17 (02:34:40):
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 13 (02:34:42):
Everybody know better than me.

Speaker 11 (02:34:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (02:34:44):
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 16 (02:34:46):
I know I'm trying to leave the Neighbors came out
yesterday and said he had no regrets with his postgame comments,
and I'm sure many players on the team share that
same sentiment. The Giants are in a good spot to
get a top five draft pick and we'll be looking
for their next franchise quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:34:58):
But are currently the worst team in the NFL.

Speaker 14 (02:35:01):
Well, I've seen team suck before, but they would have
suck you as a bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

Speaker 2 (02:35:06):
Everything socks socks sock, and that's your run five.

Speaker 3 (02:35:10):
I don't feel like that should have been a part
of that. That was wrong. Oh there's more you get more.

Speaker 2 (02:35:15):
Oh no, I meant there's more drops of you. There's
always the toss of you.

Speaker 3 (02:35:18):
Okay, all right, that's it. That's the Rotten five.

Speaker 7 (02:35:23):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (02:35:23):
Now, how do you evaluate your performance? Because you the
Rotten five returns back to Ross next week. Eh, Ross
can have it back. It's okay. I like doing.

Speaker 16 (02:35:31):
I had fun doing in these past two weeks. But
I don't want to take this segment from him.

Speaker 3 (02:35:35):
Oh very good. Uh, let's do this. Let's play Believe
it or Not?

Speaker 2 (02:35:39):
Next?

Speaker 3 (02:35:40):
It is uh your chance to win. We're going for
T shirts and shoutouts. Right, yeah, all right, very good?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven

you want to play Believe.
