Speaker 1 (00:00):
No lunchtimers.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is the Matt Thomas Show ten o two in
h Town. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to a Monday
edition of a Matt Thomas Show with Ross. This is
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
You know, we kept it between us. We had to,
We had to keep it tight. Jay Kid didn't know
about it. But JK and I are aligned and we
talk about archetypes and we talk about the culture that
we want to create.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
So I know the.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Type of players that that he likes without actually talking
to them. Hey would you like you know? So I
know that, and JK coached them when they won a championship,
So so I think when you're aligned with your coach
like that, I know the type of players that he likes.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
This gill materialized in the shadows. This came out of nowhere.
This is maybe the most stunning trade definitely that I've
been a part of in recent NBA history, as far
as it was never clearly out there.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
The Los Angeles Lake has made a statement, We're moving forward.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
We appreciate what you've done, but this is no longer
your franchise.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
This is Luka Dancik's franchise. Now you can go out
there and do what you want for the next year
or so. But this is no longer yours.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
No one has ever said that in the twenty two
years that Lebron James has been.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
In the NBA, Shannon, no one.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
I've been a master for my whole entire life, since
I've been a baby.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
This is the worst moment in the history of my life.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
This is ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
This is crazy, man. We went to the NBA Finals.
Why are we trading the best player the franchise players?
How are we trading the franchise player you want to
the NBA Finals. It's supposed to have a statue here.
He's supposed to have a statue.
Speaker 6 (01:41):
I don't got a sat you like that? Supposed to
be Luca right there?
Speaker 5 (01:44):
Why we don't got a statue for Luca?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
The entire sports world Sports Harvy is in a state
of shock.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
I think that's fair to say, fair to.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Say, good morning everybody. We are not at Radio Row
at the Super Bowl, Sports Rvy. I'm sorry to tell
you that.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I'm disappointed.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I can hear your voice. You almost choked up over
the holes that you are. Yeah, I am.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I'm still dealing with this cough that which will not
go away.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Fantastic, all right, I'm sorry about that. Yeah, we will
have some super Bowl guests related throughout the course of
the week, so wonderful about that. And Gordon's gonna be
there Wednesdays. Is gonna be able to just feed you
one a list guest after the other, can I Yeah?
All right, good morning. It is the Matt Thomas Joel Ross.
I am in New York City with the Rockets and
the New York Knicks. Tonight we'll have it for you
(02:39):
right here on seven ninety. Ross is back in Houston,
and you guys are back there as well, and thank
you all of you for taking part of your Monday
to be with us here on the radio program Ross
and Look, we are by no means a vibrant, non
Rockets NBA city. I don't know if an intriguing matchup
like Oklahoma City in Denver would have been necessarily move
(03:01):
the needle for our audience. So when we talk about
this trade today, and we will obviously get into a
lot of it for those that are the NBA gurus
are for people that follow it, but also for just
a casual sportsman that listens to our show, We'll try it.
I don't know if we need to put a cop
on it, but I don't think it would hurt. This
to me is I've been doing this a long time.
(03:25):
I don't know now. I wasn't in sports when herschel
Walker trade happened to from Dallas and Minnesota. Okay, so
I don't. That obviously was a unbelievable, stop the earth,
stop spinning kind of a move in the NFL. Can
you help me with a couple of more that have
shook the earth like this one did on sort late
(03:47):
late late Saturday night.
Speaker 7 (03:49):
Matt, your thoughts on Babe Ruth being sold to the
Yankees in nineteen nineteen.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Okay, this was your reaction when that happened. I didn't
have a reaction. I was not around at this point.
Although some would think I was, I was not.
Speaker 7 (04:02):
I mean, the only thing that popped in my head
was Kareem getting traded to the Lakers. But also I
wasn't in nineteen seventy five.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I was still watching Tom and Jerry and enjoying that
experience in the suburban Detroit at the age of three.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
This game, this is one of the biggest moves in
sports history.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
It just is. It absolutely and That's what I want
to talk to you guys about today. You have been
a part of some incredible things. You saw the greatest
basketball player of all time play and Michael Jordan many
of you have you probably you've seen the second greatest.
You've seen the home run King be dethroned. You've seen
(04:45):
multi dynasties in many sports. You've seen the greatest of
the greats play Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods. I mean, you,
in this generation that we're living in right now, you
may have seen one of the three biggest trades in
the history of sports. And I'm just throwing the number
three out ros because I can't. I'm sure there's got
to be two that are gonna be comps to this
(05:06):
at some point. But this is nuts. And the thing
about trades are you can't obviously grade them out for
three to four years.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
No, we can grade this one. Okay, I'm good, little
am I kidding?
Speaker 8 (05:22):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Look, And by the way, anytime that we say dowe
on the show today, we need to get Jalen Rose
to ding out because if there's any time that you
and I like using that.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Word, it's when describing Luka doncis Oh come on, you're
gonna call the guy Dowe right now?
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Well, yeah, I mean Bora.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
He's basically fast, special, spectacular, great playmaker, one of the
all time great scores and finals participant. Apparently a two
hundred and seventy pounds right now too, No, that's not true.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Is it just thrown it out there? Just throwing it
out there? Poping?
Speaker 8 (05:55):
Is this?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
You don't see an All Star for an All star
raw We've seen traded before, a starter, a mango to threat. Sure,
but when Luca's healthy, and look he's not healthy right
this moment, but he'll be healthy eventually. He's a top
(06:17):
what three player in the league? Yokich SGA Luca? Yeah,
it depends on honest. I mean okay, so top pop
five healthy MBI, we can stop right there. You don't
who By the way, if you would have kept him,
(06:40):
what's going to sign a deal that was going to
put him in the supermax And for those who don't know,
and I had to look what super maxes are looks
max contracts or dollar amounts that every team can can
pay their own. But if you've been with an NBA
team for seven years and you haven't been traded and
you make first or second team or third team All
NBA in the previous tw years, you get your LG
for a super max, but that the only team that
(07:04):
can pay the supermax is the original team you were with,
basically trying to keep players to stay with the team
they were drafted. So Luca was gonna make what how much?
Speaker 7 (07:11):
Was it three hundred and yeah, it was like three
hundred and fifty million through whatever it was?
Speaker 1 (07:16):
What was something?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
God? The amount? Not only does he not get that
from Dallas, he can't get that from the Los Angeles
Lakers because he's no longer super eligible max.
Speaker 7 (07:28):
He was eligible for five years three hundred and forty
five million.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Dollars, So basically Dallas could control him pay him any
amount of money, literally the most money you can ever
pay a potential NBA player. If there is a career,
if there is a top of the list, he'd be there.
And the Mavericks just told Luka Doncic your doey, but
ain't worth it.
Speaker 7 (07:53):
Yeah, but even if even if they were going to
say that he was not worth the money, how do
they only talk to the Lakers. How does he not
talk to his head coach about who he wants back.
And then that quote that we played at the beginning. Oh,
I know what kind of players he wants. It's fine,
we got a good relationship. Something is rotten in Denmark.
(08:15):
Something stinks with this.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Something a right. I don't know what it is.
Speaker 7 (08:19):
I don't think it's, you know, the Adam Silver rigging
the league for the Lakers, like some people are saying
or whatever.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
But something ain't right.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
You don't start a bidding war for one of the
great young players old by the way.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah, and I want to know did Lebron really not know?
And if he really didn't know, then how much did
the Lakers really.
Speaker 7 (08:45):
Care about Lebron. We'll get to that, Matt. Dave mcmannimon
says he didn't know.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
How do you not tell the de facto general manager
of the Lakers what you're doing.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
Dave Mcminnondan's obviously in with the Lakers and Lebron, and
so he would be. It's not a giant leak to
say he was told by Lebron's camp to say, hey,
go ahead and report that Lebron didn't know about this.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
We'll get to more of this again. This is to
us at least a Ross Knight bigger than the sport.
It's taking one of the three biggest transactions in the
history of that league. But how long Ross has been
seventy seven years in the NBA's Everything Money celebrated seventy five,
So let's add a couple more seventy seven years of
NBA basketball. This might be the biggest trade in the
(09:33):
history of the NBA, and we're alive for it. Rossie
Chip Kelly's in the NFL. He is, Yep, He's on
Kirby he would dude, he is. Oh, sorry, that's fine.
A lot of candidates STI will run through the list
on that today Rockets against the Knicks tonight will have
(09:54):
no We'll have definitely one starter out, perhaps two for
tonight's game with the hated New York Knicks. Uh. And
we have something that I watched for three minutes on
the Hotel TV line. I got to the hotel yesterday
here in New York. ROSSI that I was embarrassed for
everybody involved in it. Hmmm. Wow, that's what you call
(10:14):
professional teas, folks, A professional radio teas. Mart Mdeen of
Sportsnet Central la Iheartradios, NBA Analyt's going to join us

This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on four
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Ten nineteen Matt Thomas Show with Ross. We're here in
New York, actually made in New York. H Ross back
in Houston, Rockets and Nicks and I will have it

pregame at six and tip time shortly past six thirty
from the World's most Overrated Sports Arena seven one three
two one two five seven nine. If you want to
get in seven one three two one two five seven Ay.
(12:36):
I wrote a couple other things that we get some
more these phone calls in one. I do believe that
Lebron was in a mix of this. I think that's
a patent lie. Remember the average person lies four times
a day. That also includes megastars, sports teams, general managers, owners, coaches,
all that they lie. I think Lebron Lebron had to
know one hundred percent, had to know agreer disagree, sports RV.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Yeah, I imagine he was alerted.
Speaker 7 (13:00):
Maybe he wasn't involved with the negotiations or anything like.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
That, but at least before the trigger was pulled, he was.
He was alerted.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yes, number two, Nico was his name. He Nico Harrison
is at the general manager.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
I think it's Nico Collins.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Nico con. I think it's not Nico Collin, it's uh,
it's Nico o'bonnomwitz. And he apparently is a former Nike executive. Yes,
that has a relationship with Rob Polinka, who's a former
sports agent. Either one of them have ever been a
general manager before until the jobs they just inherited. Now
Nico has been on the job for a few years.
Speaker 7 (13:32):
You know what Nico Harrison was famous for before this,
the Kobe shoe, the Steph Curry shoe, Oh Seph Curry.
But no he Boas he boughted the twenty thirteen presentation
to Steph Curry, he called him Seth and then accidentally
played the presentation used for Kevin Durant.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
No, okay, So that's another thing. I understand secrecy. Actually
I respect screcy when he when he keeps being tight
left on things. Would do you think maybe Nico was
afraid that he started calling other teams checking the kicking
the tires on Luca, that the word would get out
(14:11):
and that eventually you'd hear about Luca doncicch rumors that
would probably affect Luka Doncics. I don't know how you
take a top five player in the NBA in the
not even really the super primates career. He's twenty five
years old. He's got ten years at least in the
NBA left as long as well.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
He's just to go healthy.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Knowe about it? I mean he's been health it's been
an issue number one.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Very clearly, the mass organization was upset and they got
to a boiling point.
Speaker 7 (14:38):
Clearly they tried to talk Tom. We've heard reports over
the years and then like hey, stop messing with all
the refs, like this is enough. Clearly, for years and
years and years, they've been trying to get him to
get into shape.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
He plays himself into shape. He doesn't stay into shape.
If we're kind of we can't sell this as Luka
Doncics is this perfect angel, dynamic playmaker, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
About the officials every single time he he's got issues.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Luka Doncis is not perfect, and the MAVs clearly hit
a boiling point.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
But even given that.
Speaker 7 (15:08):
Getting back Anthony Anthony Glassman Davis in a first rounder
doesn't make any sense, not going to any other teams
doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Don't forget Max Christy.
Speaker 7 (15:21):
I really try not to be conspiracy theory and use
the word collusion, but this just stinks from the high Evans.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
So the big storyline yesterday around the NBA or the
world sports world is that the Lakers always figure out
a way to get stars somehow, some way they get stars. Yes, uh,
Marc Gasol being the last example of Powell Gasol from
which one was the Powell Paul was the Laker. Yeah,
(15:48):
Paul Gasol from Memphis.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Shack from the Orlando Magic.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Kobe gets drafted in middle of first round on the
tray with Charlotte. They go get James Worthy in this
you know, and they had some They drafted James Worthy,
right or no? Yeah, they drafted James was it him
and Byron Scott both in the same drafty They got
a didn't didn't he go like number one? James Worthy? No?
Or it was very no Magic went one. Let me
(16:13):
look it up. James, I want to say was mid
to late first round from not MSS. James were the
first overall picked nineteen eighty two, just like I said,
the very first overall selection. Yeah, Hi, the Lakers. Who
there was some kind of crazy train. There were some
crazy circumstances around that too, I think. Yeah, I mean
they eighty the one that chok a trade or something
eighty one. They lost the Rockets in the playoffs, but
(16:35):
I mean they were like beginning of showtime and they
were getting showier.
Speaker 7 (16:40):
Here it is the Lakers traded for for the Cavaliers
first round pick in nineteen seventy nine in exchange for
Don Ford.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Mm hmmm yeah. And then Nico Harris or whatever his
name is up there with Jason Kidd, and Jason Kidd
is just like, what what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I can't believe Nico Harrison.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Nico Harrison, Yeah, I mean they put jakd up there.
It looks like I mean, I think Jay Kidd didn't
know a word about it. I really believe it. He
looks like there was a Darren headlights up there on
that press conference yesterday. You're doing what you're making me trid?
What now? Let me ask you this last week before
we go to the phones, could Dallas be really good
(17:31):
this year and get that and have the true rim
particular they were looking for beat Man they only have
already had Daniel Gaffer. I mean, they got they got some,
they got some guys underneath. But a d wakes up
with a double double problem is he goes into coma
for a while A lot of times.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
Yeah, and he's going with the defense, wins championships, thing
like okay, eighty gets a lot of blocks and he's
good defensively, but he can get beat up and muscled
around by bigger sinners.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
It's not like I mean again and injured Tonail. He's
out for two weeks. Oh man, this, I'm this just
does not all add up. It just doesn't do you.
I offer this out in the audience. Do you all
believe in conspiracies? Was there some intent to get the Lakers?
Are they the chiefs of the NBA? Does everybody want
the Lakers to win? Does everybody in the NBA want
(18:20):
the Lakers to win?
Speaker 1 (18:22):
I'm gonna put it this way. It's one or the other.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
It is absolutely institutional like malpractice and dysfunction from the Mavericks,
or there's collusion.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
It's one of the other.
Speaker 7 (18:32):
It's either one of the dumbest trades in the history
of the sport, or it's collusion. It's got to be
one of the other because otherwise it makes no sense.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
I'm gonna tell you right now, it's just the dumbest
trade ever. Because we have seen sports teams make dumb trades.
We know what. Yeah, in these parts not too long ago.
Let's talk to Tony and Angleton at ten twenty six.
Speaker 10 (18:49):
Tony, good morning, Wow, guys, it's trades like this that
that makes fun, make this this this sports radio is
interesting because there's gonna be a lot of discussion on
people behind me do all that.
Speaker 11 (19:01):
I'm not going to talk about the conspiracy or anything.
I just don't want to know about how how the
Rockets are going to uh benefit for this, because it
looks like to me that the the Mavericks are going
to tank.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
Man, They're going to tank, and and when they.
Speaker 11 (19:16):
Aren't, we tied to them with some some kind of
draft considerations or something.
Speaker 6 (19:20):
With the Mavericks.
Speaker 11 (19:21):
The lower they the lower the the worse they do,
the better we our position gets on.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
I would have to have to look at the draft situation.
I disagree. I don't think the Mavericks are trying to tank.
Speaker 11 (19:32):
I mean, I'm not saying they're going to tank, man,
I'm just saying they gave up almost ninety I think
they gave up ninety points in the first.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
Half last night.
Speaker 10 (19:40):
Yeah yeah, And that might just bering some of the
shock the shock value of it all absolutely that.
Speaker 6 (19:45):
They just theyre like, can you are you kidding me? Really?
You trade? You take trading this guy?
Speaker 11 (19:49):
But I think a lot of you were saying something
about his weight and I was noticing the same thing.
Speaker 12 (19:53):
Man.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
He he has to put on some weight.
Speaker 11 (19:55):
And uh, I think it has a lot to do
with with him, with with with Luca. I think that
I think they'd had enough and he's perfect for l A.
He'll be hell, I think he'll I think he'll be
fine there. But but as it pertains to the Rockets, man, listen,
I'm excited about this team, Matt.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
You're you're there with them every day.
Speaker 11 (20:13):
Yeah, and if they if they may, he's not gonna know,
he's gonna he's gonna kick the tires on any opportunities.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
The Rockets have to get better ruhel Stone.
Speaker 11 (20:25):
But I'm excited about this team, and there are a
couple of pieces away from being really really good.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
So I'm just kind of looking at it from a
rock Rockets perspective.
Speaker 11 (20:34):
But I'm gonna I'm gonna be listening to the whole
show because it's gonna be dominated than We're already getting
ready for baseball season, but this is this is exciting.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
Man.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Oh no, thank you Tony for the phone call, the
nice words. We'll have baseball cover for you too. We
will not have former Green Bay Packer lineman of the
nineteen seventies on the show today, Ross unavailable to us
because we're not at radio row. Uh that's unfortunately, have
been good stuff. Okay, uh yeah, well we'll address it again.
I'm not worried about draft picks. Honestly, I am as
(21:04):
anti NBA draft as it gets because after about the
top five, first of all, this year's NBA draft, I
mean you can, can you name the first pick Cooper Flag? No,
that's next year, is ROSSI not this year's.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Oh this past year Zacharie who did not play against
the Hawks.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
That was so disappointed. I had Risha ready to go
on my play play, I'm sorry.
Speaker 7 (21:27):
And then it was Alex Sar and there was I know,
the top three after that, don't ask me anything.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Stefan Castle and probably going to be.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
He was fourth.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Yes, yeah, he was four. He's good too, all right,
ten twenty nine Sports Talk seven ninety It is the
Matt Thomas Show of Ross. We'll address more on this,
and we got some other things to get to including
Ross three minutes of television viewing I'll never ever get back.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Oh and we have an all pro trade requiress request
in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Ooh is it juicy? Mildly, mildly juice. That is it
all pro player, It's true ten twenty nine Sports Talk
seventy with the word four two Creeks Crossing Resort. I'm
telling you, guys, with the weather starting to get better,
not feeling like it's twenty four degrees, get on the
fresh air along link Livingston and enjoy the experience at

Thomas Show with Ross Sports Talk seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety if you want
to chime in on the conversation seven one three two
one two five seven hoety Ross. There are Phoenix pick swaps,
Brooklyn pick swaps. I'm not worried about the draft because honestly,
the Rockets are winning lots of games. You're not having
(23:22):
to rely on draft because, frankly, the NBA draft does
not deliver like it did, say, I don't know even
ten years ago.
Speaker 7 (23:29):
Yeah, I'm it's very confusing anyways. I mean, you gotta
to keep track of all these these picks. He's got
to be a capologists. It's it's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah, it's the hardest number to talk about. The only
reason I've brought up a super max today because people
will bring up the fact that it's gonna that Lucas
losing one hundred million dollars in the deal. Now, he'll
get it, but he will he will not beget what
they called the kids call supermacs. That's dedicated to your team.
Don't get traded and make an all first, second, or
third NBA team and you can make the the most
(24:00):
money on God's given earth that one NBA player can make.
I was gonna say, well, it's not like he's gonna starve.
But then that's just seems like it's a joke about
his weight, and that's just not that's not fair to him. Yeah,
we're so he's hot tall? Is he's six eleven? He's
six seven, oh, lucas six seven seventy. That that's hefty
ding that's beyond dewey.
Speaker 7 (24:23):
If you really wear if he looks like he's actually
he's listed at six six two thirty.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
So that's a lie. Can you lose a quick four?
I mean did he gain a quick forty while he
was been hurt?
Speaker 7 (24:36):
I mean the listed weight, well, how accurate? I know
they changed it to where they were gonna do accurate
heights and weights in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Is that's still going on to Yeah? Yeah, I think so.
I don't think anybody's been lying. Okay, every time I
look at PJ. Tucker, it's losing a half an inch hmm,
all right, I don't think I'm meant to say that,
But you know what I meant by no, I don't.
Yeah you do, Yeah you do. I have no clue
(25:04):
seven two one two five seven ninety If you want
to chime in on the conversation, seven one three two, one, two,
five seven ninety So real quick, we got some other
things to get Oh, by the way, let's payoff on
your all pro trade request.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Miles Garrett.
Speaker 7 (25:19):
Of the Cleveland Browns, according to our good friend Adam Schefter,
has requested a trade.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Doesn't it very request a trade? Events you out of Cleveland?
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (25:31):
You actually really? I don't know how long this is
how often this has happened? Matt He released a trade
request via statement. As a kid dreaming of the NFL,
all I focus on was the ultimate goal of winning
a Super Bowl, and that goal feels me today more
than ever. My love for the northeast Ohio and the
incredible fan base of the Browns made this one of
the toughest decisions.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Of my life.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
Not really, He's passed eight years of shape, me and
a man I am today. I love calling the city
my home. I dire just to win and compete on
the biggest stage. One allow me to be complacent. The
goal never to go from Cleveland to Canton, had always
been to compete and win a Super Bowl. With that
in mind, I have requested to be traded for the
Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Has this happened?
Speaker 7 (26:08):
Before releasing a statement to request to trade. I just
love sports in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
If you're telling me he didn't even call the bros
And say something.
Speaker 7 (26:18):
Normally like leaks out Miles Garrett, like, yeah, I want out.
Here's a statement with my signature on it and my
life story.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Yeah. The best the best trade request are the ones
that you don't have to hear from Adam Schefter, Like
when JJ Wantt wanted something to say, he just went
to a tutor account. I have a mad respect for that. Yeah. Okay,
So he's unhappy in Cleveland. Call me stunned. Mm hmmm,
uh what how? What is his age? What's the wear
(26:47):
and tear? Has he been healthy?
Speaker 7 (26:49):
I mean he's had some I mean, look, he's had
some injury issues, but that's he has. He's on He's
an edge player in the NFL. He's one of the
most athletic physical freaks on the planet.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
He is.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Twenty nine.
Speaker 7 (27:04):
Six time pro bowler, four time All Pro. So there's
there's some trend on the twenty three Defensive Player of
the Year fourteen sacks. So since his rookie year, he
has never had under ten sacks in a year.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Four time.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
APS first discussed that the Texas trade for him first
time all first time All Pro I mean sorry, four
time first team All Pro.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
God, he's really good.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
Huh for the last five years. The other year he
made second team I mean games play this year seventeen. Oh,
he's gonna get where he gets score he wants, you
know how.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
You know it's funny. We've always spent all this time
defending well, you know life, it's an NFL players a
little more difficult because you don't have a guaranteed contract. Dude,
have we ever really worried about a guy's future if
they were good, about whether they were I mean, all
they do is ask for it, just like in the
NBA that asked to get out of these deals. You
know this. You know what this world is rossy soft soft.
(28:05):
We have guys getting We have college kids leaving year
after year after year, playing for different four different schools
in four years. We got players who signed contracts who
then get unhappy because of the coach, and then with
the coach fired and then he has to request for
a trade. We got Miles Garrett going on probably ig
tick teak you know them bowl.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
You're absolutely right, Matt Well, I want you to go
up to Miles Garrett and tell him right in his face.
Miles Garrett, you're soft, you know, Miles Garrett, why don't
you stick it out? Stick it out like your man,
Laramy Tunsell does. A man's a warrior. He's been with
this team through good times and in some bad times.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Miles Garrett, you're you're the cornerstone piece of that Cleveland
Browns defense. You can't be asking for your trade. It
won't give good value back. He wants to go win
a super Bowl. He's a winner. Those the rest of
another fifty hundred players in the NFL. Man, this is terrible.
All we want to do is the first sign of
(29:01):
us being will be gone.
Speaker 7 (29:02):
We gotta it's not the first sign, man, It's the
Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
That's true.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
I forget what I'm saying. It's Cleveland. You suck.
Speaker 7 (29:08):
You're gonna say, get a free pass if you want
out of the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
You know what you've done. You have done everything humanly
possible to help that team win, and your team continues
to have poor choices of coach and general manager. You
are you, you have, you have put in your fair time.
It's time to go on.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
Seriously, they're sticking with Deshaun Watson's.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Yeah, that seems fair, all right? Real quick, So I
get to the hotel yesterday, probably about four o'clock New
York time yesterday, okay, And you know the first thing
I do is, besides you know, I unpacked my clothes
and stuff when out, is to see what's on the
what TV channel selections I have? Like some some places
(29:51):
have like all the different sports channels. Some have a couple,
some have a few. But I was just flipping around,
and damn it, the damn Pro Bowl came on for
a minute.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Oh good, you watch it three minutes? What was on
the flag football portion?
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Okay? How was that? It was stupid?
Speaker 1 (30:09):
What was stupid about it?
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Everything you're telling me? Ross, stay with me on this, Okay.
You have battled for seventeen hard weeks to gain the
respect of coaches and your fellow players and media, and
you have been named to a Pro Bowl. That is
so great? And what is the reward? You get to
jump on a plane, go to Orlando and play flag
(30:33):
football with plays being called by Eli Manning. That sounds
like a fun weekend. That sounds absolutely ridiculous. Why it's
a good time. That'd be like Ross, Matt and Ross.
You guys have done a great job on this radio show.
You've you've taken the station to levels I've never received before.
And we want to and we want to give you
(30:55):
a gift. Was a gift. We want to give you
a box of racker jacks so you can snack on it.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Now, this is the worst analogy you've ever made.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
In between breaks? How about this, ROSSI? We want to
send you and Ross on a trip. You guys have
worked so hard and so much for this radio station.
We want to give you a gift that is representative
of your hard work at the radio station. We're gonna
send you to Port Arthur for three days.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Ooh nice, we see the Janis Japelin Museum.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
That'll take care of fifteen minutes. With that trip, we.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Can go to the Babe Saharias Museum.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
No, that's in Bomon. This is trip to This is
tripp to bowl.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Oh, it's a hop and a skip for the Golden Triangle.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
I'm serious. And then they said coming up next, tug
of War. I'm like, oh, hell.
Speaker 7 (31:41):
No, they gotta stop doing that Tug of war. Somebody's
gonna get hurt.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
I could. I didn't watch it, didn't see it. But
I'm like, once again, I'm going to ask all of you,
my friends, my family that listen to this radio show,
even people that hate me, say no to the Pro Bowl.
Here was a problem.
Speaker 13 (31:57):
Ross.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
There were like fifty thousand people in orlandoch this thing.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Oh wow, good for them.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
Pro Bowl sucked.
Speaker 7 (32:12):
What do you want them to do? The game was
bad because nobody wanted to play it.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
That have no game, then reconfigure the game then, but
don't don't make it like a field day. And when
we were in the fifth grade in elementary school, they're
having a fun time, they're filming it. You don't have
if you don't like it, you want to watch I
didn't watch it.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
You did watch it three metes and Ross.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
I'm not. I don't have infinite minutes left in my life.
I lost three of them right there.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
You could have you you could have lost just one.
You were a grip.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Do you you know what?
Speaker 7 (32:37):
You probably really loved it and you just turned it
off because you you wanted to stand on your principles.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Is that what it is? That what you think it was? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (32:43):
I think you were actually really entertained and you just.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Wouldn't know me. Yeah, that's a lie. You have seriously
no idea what you're talking about. All Right, it is
uh ten forty three. On the Matt Thomas Show of
Ross seven one three two one two five Sevanani seven
one three two one two five. Sevanni will go to
check in in Los Angeles in about seventeen minutes to
get the perspective of an NBA beat writer and a
guy that follows the Lakers very tightly. It's a Matt

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Congratulations to Kendrick Lamar for he had another Grammy last night.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Four mattew four four of them.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Hold on before we get to the other.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Oh god, I know where you're going with this.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Who is that woman?
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Kanye West's wife?
Speaker 7 (34:21):
Okay, and she knows that we got to see everything, right? Yeah,
I'm pretty sure she knows that, Matt. You how does
she not know? You think she accidentally walked out like that?
Speaker 2 (34:31):
I'm just saying, I'm just asking for a friend.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
It's called high fashion, Matt. She's a model.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Yeah, that was high fashion, all right? How many women
in America have worn that exact dress? Zero perfect?
Speaker 1 (34:46):
And it's a statement, Matt.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
She shot a man a statement. It's a fashion statement.
Were they able to stick around or they get kicked out?
Speaker 1 (34:52):
I don't know. Honestly, I believe they were escorted out.
Oh okay, well that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Him. So we will be celebrating all things Kendrick Lamar.
Not only this week is he won more Grammys, but
he will be the halftime act where America will university
love him. Excuse me?
Speaker 7 (35:11):
He won five Grammys and when one Grammy Awards Barry
manili is still sticking with one.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
I never said that he was a bigger Grammy winner.
You always want to put that in there. I'm just
gonna say, unfortunately, to tell you how awesome Kendrick Lamar
was on Sunday at half times.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Yeah, so I'm saying I don't care. But what a
bunch of Grammy voters say. If you're gonna, if you're
gonna give me a one set of songs to listen
to the rest of my life, I'm choosing Berry Man.
I know you are, Matt, but maybe I'll be I'll
maybe I'll be so enthralled with halftime on Sunday that
I'll want to download a bunch of this.
Speaker 7 (35:45):
I doubt that's okay. They said you're not the target audience.
You don't know that everybody he's inclusionary.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
I don't think you're his target audience.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
Want he wants, he wants, he wants all of us.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
No, Maddie says, you're not like us.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Oh, so I can't be. So he's telling me I'm
not invited to listen to his music.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
You no, I think you are.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Matt, Okay, all right, it is ten to fifty two.
We're gonna talk to Mark macdeina of Sports Central LA
and Fox Sports Radio coming up at the top of
the hour. And look, you know, there isn't a whole
lot going on this week and least leading up to
the super Bowl and once we get closer to it,
but we will be having a couple of guests mixed
in throughout the course of a week, especially later in
(36:25):
the week. But this, this is once again why I
think I said this about once or twice a year.
I have ross. I have a feeling that the NBA
offseason or trade deadline, you put those two little windows
of time in maybe are more exciting than some of
the games are. Frankly, because everybody in their mother Now
granted I was at the I was at a party
(36:47):
after the Rockets game on Saturday night. Everybody was flipping it.
Everybody's like, are you sure Shams has not had his
account hacked? I disbelief, Yeah, yeah, disbelief, And I really
can't like look, and when DeAndre got traded, we were
clearly stunned, as we've had put the audio of that
several times, but it does it didn't have the stop
(37:12):
what you're doing that this trade had that this trade
had where people in Houston were obviously like, what is
going on? People in Arizona are going what's going on?
And uh, basically the rest of the NFL is like,
what's two of the dumbest franchises in sports that making
dumb moves? Is this a case where Nico Harrison's just like,
(37:33):
I don't know what I'm doing, so I might as
well deal with the devil and hang out with a
friend who I was friends with before and let him
go to LA And I mean, why would you want
that guy interrupting your future as a franchise. You play
him three to four times a year, you've I mean,
if you're gonna do that, ship luk At to Washington
or something, Ship them to Charlotte where you don't have
to happen directly in your face. He's gonna be on
(37:54):
TV Ross twelve times a year for the next seven
or eight years of his NBA career.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Probably more factor in playoffs.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
You know what I mean. I mean, this is gonna
be no wonder. Dallas fan was losing their mind. They
put burial plots out there in front of the arena.
They're b There was apparently some insensitive things said about
Nico that was put on some uh uh paint uh
that you know. In again, we don't need to be
destroying property over this. It's just a trade. But I
(38:21):
didn't realize Dallas fans had such I'll say it pists
and vinegar for the Mavericks. Well, the Mavericks won a
couple of years back. Oh that's great. When does Cowboy
training game start? Uh? Yeah.
Speaker 7 (38:34):
I'm still in disbelief. I thought I'm with you. I
thought I thought Shams got hacked. Even when he responded
to himself saying this is real, It's like, no, this
is not real.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Yes, somebody still really has the account and lock.
Speaker 7 (38:45):
Yeah, And then other report NBA pro reporters started confirming it,
and that's when I was like, Okay, I guess it's real.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
It's the name called stephen A at his house. I
was just on the ESPN's broadcast of the Lakers in
the Knicks, and I could have been home and join
A five. Why am I doing this? I should stop on.
Speaker 7 (39:04):
This is absolutely unconscionable by Nico Harson in the Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah, so basically they were like and again, and we'll
have to find some other opinions on this, and it
may not be as simple as this, but maybe they're like, man,
we're tired of you. We're tired of telling you to
get in shape. We're tired of you having soft tissue injuries. Yes,
we're tired of you having And we're not going to
put three hundred and fifty million dollars in your piggy
bank for guy whos gonna miss twenty five games a
(39:30):
year because it can't keep himself in shape.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Analogy time? Is this you or somebody else? Analogy time
for me? Matt Okay, Now, as.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Someone who is the official analogy expert, I'm a very
tough critic on this, So go ahead.
Speaker 7 (39:44):
The Mavericks were dating A nine point five, and everybody's like, man,
I can't believe you pulled her. That is great, but
it's just been she's been acting crazy, possessive and just
I mean flirting with a bunch of guys on Instagram.
And he's like, you know what, this headache ain't worth it.
You break up with her and all your boys are like, what.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Are you doing?
Speaker 1 (40:04):
You need to marry that girl. It's like you just
don't understand. So on the outside it looks like a
perfect situation, but on the inside there's a lot more
turmoil than we thought.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
Not bad. Can I add one caveat yes to this
relationship you're speaking of this nine and a half. This
nine and a half wants you to buy her an
expensive apartments.
Speaker 7 (40:25):
She wants a supermax apartment. Yeah, she wants a supermax loft.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
She wants a loft, she wants full butler service, she
wants an upgraded car. Now, remember, you could still be
with her. You get all the benefits of being with
a nine and a half. Yes, but she's looking for upgrade.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
But you're growing for hate and she wants more. Yeah,
you're going hate for her and she wants more. Have
you been concerned about her weight at all at this? Well,
I don't think of her. She's a nine and a half. No,
that's different.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
That's true. Okay, there you have it. Those that's the
analogies you will get from this radio show and no
other in the marketplace. I want you we have Martin
Medina joining us here. I want you to go with this.
See if he likes our analogy. Okay, let should go
over real well, let's start the second hour of the
Matt Thomas Show in just a matter of moments with
Ross seven to one three two one two five seven
(41:15):
ninety seven to one three two one two five seven
ninety They've got Big Game specials this Sunday at Big
City Wings. You're having friends and family over. You are
going to have a good time. You're gonna watch the
Big Game, and you're gonna then have an opportunity to
enjoy some delicious wings. And what you can do is
you go to any of the thirteen Big City Wing
locations and you can get thirty boneless wings for nineteen
(41:38):
ninety nine. You can get the grid Iron Special which
includes in wings and different sides and fries and onion
rings for twenty four ninety nine, three dollars bud lights
and ultra sixteen ounce cans, five dollar modello and Pacifico
pints and five dollar frozen drinks, all part of Super
Bowl Sunday at any of the thirteen Big City Wing
locations watch the game on the big screens, or take
(41:59):
a to go home pack and to hang out with
your friends and film me at the house. Incredible food,
daily specials, huge TVs, and the Big Game specials happening
this Sunday at Big City Wings and Big Citywings dot
Com lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show. Our next
guest has been a long time NBA reporter based out
(42:22):
of southern California. You can hear him definitely on the
weekends here on Sports Talk seven hoety it's part of
the Fox Sports Radio network. And he joins us. It's
Mark McDean. I believe it for the second time in
the history of this radio show. Marc's Matt here in
New York City. Thanks for joining me today. We've been
trying to find the parallels to this and analogy and
(42:45):
Ross is my co host and he's not going to
be a part of this interview, but Ross, I want
you to jump on the headset real quick. If he's there,
Are you there, Hello? I want you to give Mark
the analogy you just gave to our audience, and then
mark I want you to grade the analogy based off
what we saw on in her Go ahead, all right, Marky.
Speaker 7 (43:02):
So the Mavericks are this friend of ours that's dating
like a ninety and a half and she's smoking hot
and you're like, oh my god, he's so lucky. But
deep within that relationship there seems to be some discord.
There's some issues that we don't even know about. It's
on the outside, it looks like a perfect scenario, but
perhaps on the inside there were some strife that we
didn't know about, and that's thus the breakup.
Speaker 8 (43:24):
Yeah, it doesn't make any sense because unless Luca Doctors
said that he wants out, he wants to be traded,
he's now going to sign an extension. This doesn't make
any sense. And the Mavericks and you know, Lucas I
have maintained that that hasn't been the case. So I
think your analogy is spot on that you know there
might be some insecurity that, oh, this person's going to
(43:45):
break up with me months down the line. So I'm
going to get ahead of the curve, even though I
want to keep that person. But I just don't want
to get my heart broken. That seems to be the
analogy here. But the thing that is really confusing on
top of that is that Dallas could have gotten a
better deal. I mean, they got Anthony Davis, he's a
great player. They got Max Christi, he's an emerging young player.
(44:07):
They got a first round pick. But you know, you
only have to look at the Rudy goldbertrade to see
how many how much you can get in a deal
as far as draft picks and other assets go. Now,
it seems like from Dallas's end, they didn't want to
prolonged list and affect the locker room. And you know,
sometimes when things get out in the open that came.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
To rail a deal.
Speaker 8 (44:28):
But we're talking about a generational talent. I mean, the
Lakers basically got a coup here.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Mark. Do you think part of the reason why the
conversation was just to the Lakers is because that word
travels fast and in lips, will flap all around the
world of sports, and they start spreading the rumor out
that he wanted to keep this as quiet as possible.
When he said, if I'm going to do that, I
gotta just kind of basically have a conversation with one team.
Speaker 8 (44:54):
Yeah, it seems like that was part of the calculus.
I thought it was notable that Nico Harrison his press
conference the other day was creting Rob Polinka for keeping
this secret. They had some informal conversations a few weeks ago,
and it was very comforting to him that word didn't
get out. So, yes, when you look at certain deals
(45:15):
like this or several years ago, when the Lakers got
pau Gasol in two thousand and eight, no one knew
about this. I think at the same time, though, we're
in a different era where things get out quickly. There's
a lot more people on staff, there's social media that
any expectation that nothing is out in the open is
fairly unrealistic. But I think given the context of they're
(45:39):
talking about a generational star, if it's out, who knows
how it affects the locker room and how Luca feels
and if a deal doesn't work out, you know, is
it almost like the toothpastes out the two. But again,
I go back to what the Dallas Mavericks got in return.
Anthony Davis is a great player. He's a defensive Player
(45:59):
of the Year handedate. They are a playoff team, but
you could have gotten even more out of this. So
I'm just really surprised that this is what they wound
up agreeing upon.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
I don't know. Did you watch the press conference yesterday
with Harrison and with Jason Kidd. I felt disappointed with
Jason Kidd because I think he was a deer in
headlines on this, and in Harrison's case, I just felt
like he wanted to he needed to backtrack on almost
every single statement he said because people are probably in
that room going, this sounds good, but you're full of crap.
Speaker 8 (46:32):
I thought it was notable when Nico said right next
to Jason, Hey, he didn't know about it, but he's
on board. And what Jason's supposed to say, I mean
he said he's on board too. No one knew about this.
It's just one of those things that, again, unless Luca
gave directives, I want out, you may as well get
(46:53):
something of value out of me. I don't get this
trade at all. I mean, the Dallas Mavericks made the
NBA five Finals last season, and in fairness, I did
talk to some executives before the season started for you know,
season preview type work, and some of them remarked to
me that they felt like Dallas was a one hit
wonder as far as getting back to the finals, but
(47:16):
didn't really have anything to do with Luca and any
shortcomings he has. It was just more of the roster
that there. There was a lot of credit being given
that Kyrie show. Kyrie Irving's shown that he can co
exist with Luca, He's a better leader. They did get
some roster depth, you know, they drafted Derek Lively the
second the PJ. Washington, great wing player. They just got
(47:36):
Klay Thompson. But is it quite enough to compete in
this very competitive Western Conference landscape? And when you're looking
at this trade here again, Anthony Davis is a great player,
He's going to co exist well with Kyrie Irving. But
I don't think it really does anything as far as
changing their playoff fortunes. It doesn't worsen it significantly in
(47:57):
the short term. There's still a TA that will be
a tough playoff out, but I don't think that this
catapults them in the Western Conference landscape. And I think
the bigger thing is long term, there's a lot of
questions all their core players, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving Klay Thompson.
They're getting older in age here and where you can
trast that With the Lakers, I think there are short
(48:20):
term questions about even though Luka Dogis is a generational talent,
how's the fit going to be with Lebron James and
Luca even though there's a lot of respect for each other.
Just half the season's worth the games has had enough
to really get the chemistry going. What are they going
to do with the center position and what are they
going to do with their defense? They don't have any
good defenders. But in the long term, the Lakers set
(48:42):
themselves up to have that next generational superstar for whatever
Lebron James decides to retire, and that's obviously going to
be soon because he's forty years old. He still has
a player option next year, but he's obviously said he's
toward the end of his career than the beginning of it.
So yeah, just a lot to unpack, and the contrast
between what this means for the Lakers and the Mavericks
(49:04):
couldn't be any clearer.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
Mark Medeena is with us Mark g Underscore, madenam e
d I Na with us here from Athlon Sports CBSLA spectrum,
and of course you're hearing weekends on Fox Sports Radio
right here on Sports Toxin. Any are you really buying
that Lebron didn't know anything about this before it went down?
Speaker 8 (49:22):
I do.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
I do buy it.
Speaker 8 (49:24):
Actually. Look, I'm not going to be a naive to
say that Lebron James doesn't have influence on the Lakers.
You know, they obviously drafted Brony James. They know how
Lebron feels about things. But I think the context that
we have to be aware of is that the Lakers
dynamical Lebron James changed after the Russell Westbrook trade. Now,
(49:44):
there's a lot of different versions depending on when you
listen to the Lakers side of things or Lebron side
of things. As far as to what extent his voice
actually carried weight with this Russell Westbrook trade. You know,
the Lakers would say, you know, Lebron really push forward
at the eleventh hour, even though they're about to get
Buddy healed. Lebron's people will say, yeah, he was in
(50:07):
support of Russ, but it was in the larger context
of the Lakers asking him as well as other deals.
So with that context being said, since then, because that
deal hasn't worked out. There's been a healthy distance where
the Lakers really haven't factored in his input when it
becomes when it's specifically with trade deadline moves and free
(50:29):
agency moves, and Lebron has been detached from that process
because I think from his own self interest, he doesn't
want to get signed blame if a deal goes bad
and then says, yeah, well, this is what Lebron wanted.
So I think we have to keep in mind that
outside of them drafting Bronni James, and I know that
that is sparked a lot of reaction anyway, the Lakers
(50:51):
haven't done anything that has reflected what Lebron's wanted from
personnel standpoint. I think with Browny specifically, that Oculus is
a little bit different where from the Lakers, and they
didn't feel like they really gave up a lot because
it's a second round pick, if you know, most second
round picks don't really pan out well that much. He
hasn't really played much in the actual NBA. It's mostly
(51:13):
been G League games. So yeah, I do believe to
your original question that he didn't know about it.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Yeah, I am Mark. I just feel like he knows everything,
and so that's not and that doesn't really make a
difference at the point the deal was still made. But
I'm just I think I'm just naturally hesitant to believe
that that Rich Paul and Lebron did not have some
sort of intel before him. Let me get to the
Dallas side before wrap things up with you, Uh, tell
me exactly what we know about Mark Cuban's current role
(51:42):
with the team. I know he's still the majority interest
of the franchise. I know that their new ownership in
the Dallas organization has casino ties. They have never hidden
the fact they want to get casino gambling in Texas
to build I think perhaps a future palace in involving
the Mavericks and a gambling casino on Amano. If there's
(52:02):
conspiracy theories out there on Twitter, which I don't believe in,
but you know what, for the sake of this crazy
story are is the Dallas mavericks long term future in
jeopardy if casino gambling does not come to Texas. That
is a very fluid thing.
Speaker 8 (52:19):
It's very hard to really answer that question because there's
so many moving parts. As it pertains to any moves,
you know, relocation or just having new business ventures. But
I think to the original point that you're making about
Mark Cuban, I think that this illustrates very clearly he
doesn't run things at all. And pertaining to the basketball side,
(52:43):
now he might still have some role on the business side,
but if it were up to Mark Cuban, they want
to be trading Luka doncicc I mean he's already been
on record, yeah, in a very strong statement saying if
you have to choose between, you know, staying with his
wife or writing Luca, he would get his divorce papers ready.
A little strong, but that's what Mark Cuban is known
(53:05):
to say. I think the bottom line is whether it
was Luca or Dirk or any any kind of generational talent,
Mark Cuban was very, you know, a strong believer that
you hold on to those legendary players and don't make
any exceptions whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (53:23):
Because there is the rumor that and again it's just
these are just rumors that if something falls apart in
Dallas and the casine in the new ownership group doesn't
get a casino, that they would be willing to move
the team to Las Vegas. And I'm just curious because
you know, Las Vegas is going to get NBA franchise
either through expansion or I'm a franchise moving. It's just
a matter of time.
Speaker 8 (53:42):
Yeah, And I think the one thing again, these are
moving parts.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
But I would be.
Speaker 8 (53:47):
Surprised, just as an educated guess, if there is a relocation,
the NBA could have the power to exert things. And
the NBA doesn't want relocation to happen. They want expansion
to happen. They also want to make sure that you know,
mid and small markets aren't a good position too. And
(54:10):
so you know, the NBA now that there's no there's
not a commissioner that's having to be an acting owner
with a franchise. They're not going to dig into personnel
moves and say yes or nay on a deal. But
they're I think, going to be very active in making
sure that all their different markets are well represented. And
(54:31):
they feel like Dallas is a really strong market because
of the history. So again a lot of fluidity. No
one knows exactly how this will play out from the
business end, but I'll be on records saying I'd be
surprised that it would be any relocation, it would be expansion.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
I got thirty seconds, and you've been awesome market as
you normally are. I listened on the weekends. How long
is Nico Harrison's leash in Dallas right this second?
Speaker 8 (54:59):
I think it's just fine right the second. But this,
this decision is obviously his legacy. So we're gonna we're
going to see very clearly how well this plays out.
And again, I think the intriguing part about this is
in the short term, I think they're going to be fine.
They're a team that has been up and down all
(55:19):
season for different reasons. Uh, They're still going to be
a player in the playoffs, but I think even prior
to this trade, they're stealing with second round at best.
I think where, you know, the chickens come home to roost,
so to speak, is how things will look like, you know,
the next two seasons.
Speaker 2 (55:36):
With all this, Mark, thank you very much of the time.
We really appreciate looking forward to hearing more of you
on the weekends on Fox here on this radio station.
And thanks for joining us here this morning.
Speaker 8 (55:46):
Thanks so much. Great chalking hoops with you guys.
Speaker 2 (55:50):
Yeah for sure, Thanks very much. Mark Medina joining us
from three thousand miles away from me in Los Angeles
where he has been all over this Lakers trade with
the Dallas Man. All right, bottom of the hour. We
have to tell the truth, Rossie. I have four sports takes.
You only believe one of them. Oh dear, Okay, say
(56:12):
it again. Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (56:14):
Matt has four sports takes, has four sports takes.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
He only believes one of them. He only believes one
of them. There you go, okay it. I'm kind proud
of you. That's coming up at the bottom of the hour.
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Raws seven one

o'clock seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
I want to say about Scott Callahan and Associates board
certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board
of Legal Specialization, saying, Matt, why is that important? Well,
(57:02):
frankly because less than ten percent of Texas lawyers are
Board certified. Twenty five years experience taking care of those
that are suffering from personal injuries, and he's also been
voted a Texas Super law Lawyer by the Thompson Reuters
Group every year since twenty eleven. Only the top five
percent of Texas attorneys are selected each year. And if

Speaker 2 (58:27):
Broadcasting from the New York Studios, ROSSI sixty six WFA.
And you know the Islanders won yesterday.
Speaker 1 (58:35):
Dah, it was a great game, Maddie.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
The Rangers beat the Knights. That was good at the
garden and then the doom Devils lost unbelievable. Seaton Halls
drop fourteen in a row.
Speaker 7 (58:50):
And all everybody wants to talk about is Luca Nanchens.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
He can't hold me nine King's Jack.
Speaker 2 (58:57):
You get old Saquon Barckley's jocks. Speaking of Saquon, he
was a giant. You had the games on sixty six WFAN.
Perhaps our weakest character flaw is the ability to impersonate
up knock. We've got weaker ones New York sports personalities.
We've got much weaker ones. Those guys are making six
(59:17):
times that I'm making. But they have to live here.
It's fine, that's true. They cost the livings like six
times as much. Oh, it's crazy, and the weather's kind
of it was sleeping. Last time we went at to dinner.
Speaker 1 (59:25):
Can we can we play how much were Matt's pancakes?
Speaker 2 (59:29):
Ummmmmm no, because I think I went we went. When
we went to a steakhouse last night, there was would
have been the same in Houston too, since I, yeah,
you know this, I wouldn't got me a steak, egg
and cheese bagel. Let the McDonald's down the street from
my hotel on sixty.
Speaker 1 (59:45):
Six steak, egg and cheese bagel.
Speaker 2 (59:48):
Large coffee too, Splendid's one creama It's like ten dollars
and twenty cents, which is probably about nine at the
house at the home. Okay, it's not that bad. It's
not bad. Yeah. One thing nice about going to New
York is no matter where you are, you're gonna find
a dunkin Donuts somewhere close and McDonald's somewhere close or
like a side Dell. It's got a slice.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
There's not a famous heritage New York donut place.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
I'm sure there is, But I like to go within
four hundred feet of my hotel. So we're good.
Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
Yeah, he didn't hop on the train go see the city.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Oh, we're we're very close to Masison Square Garden. We're
in walking distance.
Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
Oh that's great.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
Yeah, Now tomorrow we're not in walking distant to take
the Brooklyn Bridge over to play the Nets. Hmm, it's
dam pesky Nets who beat the Rockets on Saturday. That
bad Saturday for me. Cougar is the previous Saturday beat
Cleveland and Cleveland the Rockets did, Cougar's beat Kansas at
home and Lawrence. This Saturday, Rockets lose the Nets and
(01:00:49):
my Cougars lose the Texas Tech. We're apparently we're fighting
all over the building and it didn't involve my son.
Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
Thank god, Wait a minute, they did?
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
They lost? Yes, and overtime? Oh really? Yeah? So one
more left?
Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Aren't you glad they talked to you? Out of only
one conference loss?
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
Yep's still gonna take the loss on that, you know that, right,
We'll see what happens, still taking it. A lot of
basketball left, a lot of basketball left twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Conference so that people were fighting at the Fertida Center. Yes, really, yep? Gosh,
what's wrong with you?
Speaker 7 (01:01:18):
You Cougars and your Red Raiders a bunch of rabble rousers.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Seriously, if I would say, if they're the two schools
and a big twelve, they are gonna throw hands pretty quick.
It's gonna be us and the Red Raiders. Baylor too nice,
b Yu, too nice? Eric Colorado. They're on medicinals Arizona
Arizona State. All they want to do is party. They
don't want to fight. We can fight. Mmmm.
Speaker 7 (01:01:43):
That's disappointing. You'd expect better, but well not from the
Red Raiders. No, at least from the Cougars. Yeah, the
board they live in Lubbock. It's not allowed to do.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Yeah. By the way, Cameron probably wore his Texas Tech
Pat Mahomes jersey to the game, okay, and was accosted
by many people. That's funny, abused.
Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
Yeah, why is he wearing a football jersey to a
basketball game?
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Because, guys, because big fellows don't usually wear basketball jersey.
You don't war for only broskies wear basketball jerseys out.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
Why is it he were like a Darvin Ham vintage.
Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
Because I don't think you know who Darvin Ham is.
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
Who's who's the greatest Texas Tech basketball player of all time?
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Uh? There was a guy named Lance Hughes who was
like a white chocolate thunder.
Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
M andre Emmett. That's what I was trying to get.
Is it andre Emmett?
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
No, it's a guy in the league for the last
handful of years. He's out of the league. Now, but
he was pretty Jerius Jackson, No, he was. He was
on that Final four Texas Tech team, first round pick.
If you said his name, I would be able to
tell you. But it's not.
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
Andre Emmitt's are all time leading scorer.
Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
I mean, I'm sure he could be.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
He was. He was good back in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
Yeah, Darvin Ham would be on that short list for sure.
Who was the Texas Tech Final four team that was?
I'm googling right now, I can look it up. I
guess I got it. It's not great. Radio's fine, but
he was. He was a first round pick in the
NBA and he just could never could ever last. He
was not very good. That's a shame. I'll bring I'll
(01:03:13):
bring it up. I'll find it. You keep talking, Hey,
we have to tell the truth. Coming up next work,
I'm gonna I have four sports takes, three of which
I don't believe one I do, and it'll be up
to Ross and counter figure out which ones, which one
Sports take I do believe? We have the news. Jared C.
That's it. Jared Culver, hmm, yeah, first round bus sadly
(01:03:34):
but maybe made good money. I'm sure you think you
think Texas Tech would have one guy who made it
in the league. God, how many I don't even know
how many Textas Tech NBA players there are, poor guys.
That's fine. Cougars are plentiful around the NBA that think. Thankfully,
(01:03:54):
Final four appearance this year and now plenty of NBA players.
Speaker 7 (01:03:58):
They're all time leader for rebounds in a season. Paul
Nolan did we used to have him on Friday at
two thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
Nineteen fifty one.
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
Yeah, that Paul Nolan on a recorded line. Maybe. So
he went from being a Texas Tech great rebounder to
giving out BLUs and minuses on the game between Boston
College and Arkansas. Yes, good, he moved. He moved his
career along beautifully. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
(01:04:28):
nine Daryl Ross believe it or not? Today Luka doncic right.
Speaker 7 (01:04:31):
Uh, I might have to sprinkle in some ad. We're
running out, We're running along in questions?
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Boy, way has thatbody checked on Luca's mom during this
whole situation?
Speaker 7 (01:04:39):
Hm hmm, I'm sure she's doing great. She's probably not
happy he's not getting the supermacs.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Ooh, he's only one hundred million dollars less worth than
he was, say, thirty six hours ago. Mm hmm. God.
When you, by the way, you all should strive to
begin in a profession. Where have something called a super
max salary? Now there's only one person I heard to
get super max, and that's Michael Berry. Yes, rod Ryan
(01:05:07):
gets the max.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
What about what about Ryan Seacrest.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Ryan Seacrest supermax? He he gets the infinite Max, the
Breakfast Club, unbelievable Max. That's true.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
I'm on league minimum, but that's all right. I'm happy
to be in the league ross minimum, the two way contract.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
Matt Median. Hmm. So there you go. By the way,
Late news on in New York this morning, the Blue
Man Group ends in New York Residency. Maybe the unfunniest performance,
live performance you'd find in America. I never saw it.
I don't I didn't either, and I don't need to
see it. There's a bunch of strange dudes wearing blue
(01:05:49):
paint on their head and you're supposed to laugh. It's
not good.
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
By the way, I think we can have a when
we come back, a Bregmant update. Okay, we got to
do what to tell the truth first? Oh, eleven fifty
will have that. Now you believe one of these only.
Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
Ross It's up next here on Sports Talk seven Ounty
with a word right now for Berkeley Eye Center. I
know you want to believe that there's a place in
town that will give you clear vision without glasses and context.
We can certainly believe it because it's gonna be found
at Berkeley Eye Center. Right now. You can get zero
percent financing until twenty twenty seven and save over twelve
(01:06:26):
one hundred dollars by using your flex spending, Flex medical
or health savings account of work. So if you want
to get Lasik, and you want to have it because
you think it's not you and your budget, well guess
what it is now certainly with the folks and the
technology and the staff that you'll find at Berkeley Eye
Center seven one three five two six eyes to schedule
your free consultation so they can prove to you how
(01:06:48):
affordable the vision you deserve really is. It's Lasik from
Berkeley Eye Center seven one three five two six eyes.
If for a Lasik budget, you're gonna love it's seven
one three five two six e w yes for the
(01:07:20):
great thing about me, ladies, gentlemen, of Houston, Texas. Is
that I do know how to tell the truth, and
I'm about to tell you the truth on one of
my four sports takes. Coming up here in the next
couple of minutes. It is Sports Talk seven ninety the
Bat Thomas Show with Ross. I'm coming to you today
from New York City where Rockets and Knicks. Tonight we'll
have it for you beginning at a six thirty tip
time from MSG. Rockets take on Brooklyn tomorrow off Wednesday,
(01:07:42):
play Minneapolis Thursday in the Wolves Saturday in Dallas at
Ross will be the first home game for the Mavericks
since the Luca trade.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
Hmmm, are people even going to show up?
Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
I think I'm gonna have to leave early to avoid
the protests outside the American Airlines Center.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
When does Anthony Davis make it debut? I know he's
out with an abdominal stream man, which I know shocks.
Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Imagine that stunner on that bad point. All right, guys,
I have four takes. You are only to believe one
of them three or lies one. I'm telling the truth. Look,
we saw the Aaron Fox get moved yesterday as well,
from the Sacramento Kings to the San Antonio Spurs. We
have seen the Luca trade. I really believe these two
(01:08:28):
trades have woken up the NBA big time. By this
Thursday's deadline, Ross Connor, we're gonna see another top twenty
player traded by Thursday's deadline. All Right, I don't know
what it's gonna be, but it's gonna be a not
a mind blowing like Doncic, but it'll be something impactful
like the de Aaron Fox. Something's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
So I do you consider Jimmy Butler in the top twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
I was just gonna ask that, Yeah, let's put Jimmy
Butler in there. Okay, okay, number two. Uh. I really
do believe the fatigue for the Chiefs Eagles game is real.
People were coming out of it. People are having Taylor fatigue,
Kelsey fatigue. It's not a matchup we were looking forward
(01:09:13):
to seeing. We were looking forward to seeing Buffalo or
Detroit or Baltimore playing guys. When it's all said and done,
this will not be a top ten rated super Bowl.
There may be a lot of television sets, but the
ratings are different. At the end of the day, this
will not be a top ten rated super Bowl. Okay,
(01:09:34):
number three. I don't want you guys to worry about
how the Lakers or the Mavericks are gonna do in
the postseason this year, because guess what. Neither one of
them is advancing past the first round. Neither one of
them will be in a Western Conference semifinal series, and
fourth even if Alex Bregman does sign somewhere else, you'all
(01:09:59):
better be ready. Josel tuob is going to play a
lot of let field even if Alex Bragman does not
sign with the Astros. I think al Tubay's transition is beginning.
It will be in full thrust. If Bragman gets here,
it'll be subtle, but expect jose A tub to get
some serious left field playing time in two thousand.
Speaker 1 (01:10:22):
What's serious? Fifty games?
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Hotter games? Fifty games? Okay? Okay, So my four takes.
Another top twenty player will be traded by Thursday's deadline. Uh,
fatigue is set in for the Eagles and the Chiefs.
This will not be a top ten rated super Bowl.
If dallasand Lakers are both out of the first round
(01:10:45):
of the playoffs, they will not be in the semifinals
of the West and even if Bregman moves along to
somewhere else, the transition is going to happen this year.
I believe Josel Tube is going to play at least
fifty games in left field for the answer. Not that
I want him to, not that I need him to.
I think a transition is under one of the four
might telling the truth.
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
Matt only believes one of these correct, connor or finding
the one. He's telling the truth about the one now.
Speaker 7 (01:11:09):
I think last week he literally said on air that
he thinks it's going to be a top five rated
super Bowl, but he keeps talking about how he does.
Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
He doesn't. He's not interested in this.
Speaker 12 (01:11:17):
He's not interested, so he could actually believe that even
if we might disagree.
Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
But he's also not a swiftye.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
Yeah, but I think his daughter is a swifty I
don't know about him. My counters are swifty. It's cost
you a lot of money, hasn't it, Mat.
Speaker 12 (01:11:34):
Yeah, I'm gonna throw out number two though, because I
don't like even if he if he thinks people are fatigued, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Still going to be.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
I think he still thinks it's gonna be a top ten.
Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
I agree with you.
Speaker 12 (01:11:45):
I'm I'm tempted to throw out number four because Dana
Brown did say it's josel two is kind of playing
left field. Is contingent upon an addition, so they.
Speaker 7 (01:11:56):
Could still add somebody true. I mean, they could be
true or it could not be true. It depends on
how the offseason is going to play out. So I'm
throwing out number three. I mean, Lakers or MAVs can
certainly make the second round, dismissing both of them. Kyrie
Irving and Anthony Davis probably enough to get in the
second round, you would think, or or the Lakers and
what they have.
Speaker 12 (01:12:16):
Yeah, and the Lakers definitely could there. What They're number
five in the West right now. Yes, I think I've
done a good job. But you guys are really debating this.
Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
I like this. This makes me happy. I think I'm
gonna go.
Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
The problem is you just have to get in there,
like you gotta get in the mind of a crazy
Yet these area it's hard getting in the mind of
a person with bad takes. You know, No, my takes
are very well respected. Oh my god, we dismiss these
all the time, and you believe them.
Speaker 12 (01:12:41):
I'm a good number one, though, I think I think
there might be another trade on the horizon. I don't
know if it's Jimmy Butler, and I can't think of
anything on the top of my head.
Speaker 7 (01:12:49):
I just think somebody, Yeah, they very well could be
a big trade. There very well could be All t
V playing a lot of left field. It's just contingent
upon them making another move. I'll go one with you,
all right.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
I do believe there is some fatigue for the Chiefs
and the Eagles, but come on, it's the Super Bowl,
it's Taylor Swift, it's a recognizable team, it's a huge
media market in Philadelphia. Everybody's gonna be watching it. It's
absolutly gonna make the top ten. Now, that was an
easy one to throw out. I wouldn't be surprised if
both teams were out of the playoffs in the first round.
(01:13:24):
But I can't predict that that would mean, and that
would not be a take. I would fall on the Lakers.
If Luca gets back and they can behave and he
and Lebron can work together, they're gonna be dynamic right
out the jump. And look, Dallas does have another defensive
threat that can help them win. And Kyrie Irving has
been playing well. Yeah, I couldn't bounce both them out easily.
(01:13:50):
At the end of the day, I really believe that
Josel Tubay is on his way to left field. And
I can't believe I'm saying this, boys, and I this
is again just an opinion, not based on fact. But
I don't think you throw this out to jose Al
tuo Bay to say you're going to left field or
thinking about it, and then say never mind. I think
this has been something that's been in the works for
(01:14:10):
the Astros, and they're gonna try to figure out a
way to get him to play some steady left field.
So towards the latter latter half of his major league career,
it will not be at second base, it will be
in left field. And that's the one I believe.
Speaker 7 (01:14:23):
So you believe he's getting fifty plus, Yeah, he could
give fifty plus games this year.
Speaker 1 (01:14:26):
Yeah, that's what I believe. How can you say a
top twenty player is not getting traded? Then the rest
of this my fielding, I just.
Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Feeling in my like Zion Williamson, I don't think it's moving.
I don't think Jimmy Butler's moving. I think jim now
that Jimmy Butler just yesterday said he's not going to
Golden State. I mean, he's basically telegraphing where he wants
to go. And if Bradley Build does not want to
uh veto a trade to go out leaving Phoenix, it
ain't happening. You can't have you can't have those two
ridiculous contracts on the one team with with Duran and
(01:14:55):
with Booker. So I don't think a top twenty player
is going I think everything else is gonna be just
little stuff here and there. Okay, you see him upset classified.
Speaker 7 (01:15:08):
I mean, I believe four was true. I almost went
with four, but yeah, that's right. Yeah, So there's gonna
be a t I think there's gonna be a trade,
and I think is going to left.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
But we're talking about top I know, you just got.
Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
To decay for these bad takes.
Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
It's hard. They're good takes, horrible, amazing takes.
Speaker 7 (01:15:22):
All Right, we'll see by Thursday if anybody gets traded, then.
Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
It'll be you know what it'll be, It'll be a
take that I was wrong about. Yeah, I know a
list of them. Not many, not fun, not many. All right,
break meant update up next our time is twelve. We'll
get a lot of time in this second here twelve forty.
That was to tell the truth. I hope you guys
can appreciate that. Obviously Ross did not, and that's fine.
(01:15:47):
We can live past.
Speaker 1 (01:15:48):
No, I should have just want my instinct and stuck
with four. You're such a sore loser.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
Uh okay, don't tell that to Ross either. He'll get
mad at that too. No, not mad. Next and Connor,
sit under your breath. I'm just kidding Ross. No, it's fine.
By the way, Connor's no longer allowed to go to
Rockets games. He I got he He's sat in some
decent seats on Saturday and the and the Rockets got
their asp by the nets.
Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
Well, you took your seats the first time I went
to we beat the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
Oh okay, we're always welcome down.
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
He's won on one. Dang, Connor got Laker seats.
Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
Mm hmmm mmmm. That's great. Much of sugar into a
former coworker of ours. By the way, I had somebody
send me an email that's a listener in Phoenix. He's like, Hey,
can you do you know if there's any discount of
tickets with the rockets in the Suns. I'm like, I
know what you're asking for. There's there's subtle ways to
(01:16:45):
ask somebody happy with some freebees, and then there's just
a direct way. No, maybe he's just acting for a
promo code, Matt, How do I get a promo code
for visiting Phoenix Suns? Ticket promo code MT in Phoenix?
Is they gonna work?
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
Maybe they don't know you over there?
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
No, they don't now now, walking Rick Casino knows me
very well, walking Rick Mesino. They got your cash, don't they?
They do every single time, and yet I go back
every single time. It's like two casinos I cannot win.
For in Cleveland I can't win, and in Phoenix I
(01:17:21):
can't win, But yet I still go. Yes, you do well,
just money, Roth, that's it. Yeah, thinking about retirement, vacation home.
Speaker 1 (01:17:32):
I don't know how you go how many casinos? How
many times you go to a casino in a given.
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
Year in the league, probably a half dozen?
Speaker 1 (01:17:39):
No, I mean in your life in the year in
a year.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
Well, Vegas once twice a year, like Charles three times
a year. It's five and the NBASEID probably less than fifteen.
Still feels like a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
It maybe time to stage your your wife talking to
my mother and my wife on this. Your wife and
your kids haven't staged intervention yet.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
Well, I have the the play money. The play money
hasn't gone away. So thanks for pocket watching me. I
feel I'm not talking watching you know, I'm just asking
questions I'm giving you Angel I don't want to give
out publicly. Thank you, much appreciated, Ross, Thank you, Matt.
If Bregmant update is up next, thank all, let's segue
out of this seven one three two one two five
(01:18:22):

Speaker 9 (01:19:29):
More Man Thomas Show with Ross Now Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
Eleven. We have the news at Nude coming up in
twelve minutes from now, and right now, we have to
give you something ahead of time because it's a bit.
We gotta play the bit. Sometimes you're on the radio program,
we bring you on Alex Pregnant.
Speaker 14 (01:19:51):
Updates, ah Man Ross Show.
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
The bit's never going away much. Distagree of something.
Speaker 2 (01:20:10):
All right, Rossick won't be able to find as we
were looking for an Alex bregmant updates.
Speaker 7 (01:20:13):
Yes, Matthew, Well, there is a first nugget with this.
Bregmant update is a move made by the Detroit Tigers,
and of course that ties in because well, the Detroit
Tigers one of these shooters for Alex Bregman right handed,
Jack Flaherty and the Detroit Tigers on agreement in a
two year, thirty five million dollar contract. It doesn't include
(01:20:35):
it does include an opt out after the first season.
I mean, this is essentially a one year deal. I
don't even know how this happens. Flerty getting twenty five
million dollars in the first year, after which he can
opt out. Guaranteed salary in twenty twenty six is ten million,
can get as high as twenty million if he starts
fifteen games this season. So Flarity back with the Tigers,
(01:20:58):
and we've already heard some other reports that the Tigers
have maybe been priced out of the Alex Bregman sweepstakes,
So we'll see what happens there. And then also matt
our friend David Schoenfeld, who David Schoenfeld.
Speaker 2 (01:21:12):
Of ESPN I don't know, go ahead.
Speaker 7 (01:21:15):
Has written a full breakdown of Alex Bregman's free agency
and he's listed a number of teams and suitors and
who the best fits would be. He lists as Alex
Bregman's concerns that he turns thirty one in March. Yep,
Bregman's offensive game hasn't been great as as good as
(01:21:35):
it was in earlier years, and there has been a
general decline in his athleticism.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
Ooh, let me tell you. If Alex Brannan was to
see that, he'd say, what's the what's this guy's name?
Dave One, David Schoenfeld, You'd say, Dave s want you
shut your bamb ass.
Speaker 1 (01:21:50):
Up, like you gotta have hurt his name. He's been
in ESPN a while breaking down baseball stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
So I mean that feels like that's range is not
as good as it used to be. That comes down
to that night athletics is mean I e.
Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
Meeting Range As best fits.
Speaker 7 (01:22:03):
He lists the Astros, the Blue Jays, know, the Tigers, yeah,
the Red Sox okay, and then the Cubs and then
one other National League team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
If Bragg signs with the Dodgers, we're just gonna just
not talk baseball for six months, you liar, that's true,
But really that would mean every significant will move with
except the one Soto deal. Everything that was sexy about
this baseball free agency involved the Los Angeles Dodgers. Are
(01:22:41):
we prepared for that? Are we prepared for them to
still be a team that's gonna try to one hundred
and fifteen games this year? What's going on with LA?
Why does LA get to have all this fun?
Speaker 1 (01:22:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
They just got one of the top five players in
the as long as he's not very doe, which he's
dowey at this point. Apparently two seventy is where the
indications are. They get Shoe a Otani, who's going to
pitch now this year? Apparently yes, beyond hitting, and they've
gotten every significant free agent, especially in the international flavor
(01:23:18):
we've seen in quite some time. They won the World Series.
Speaker 1 (01:23:23):
Uh, they're gonna have the best rotation baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:23:26):
Their stadium is awesome now, but people that go there
are not awesome. They want to hit you and hurt you.
Damn ross. Maybe we should have been an LA fan.
We get if we get to pick and choose our
Rams or Chargers, depending on what who's hot that year.
Speaker 7 (01:23:42):
Dodger's potential rotation Blake Snell Nope, Shoho Tani not interested?
Speaker 1 (01:23:48):
Oh what Yo should know?
Speaker 2 (01:23:50):
What Yamamoto love him?
Speaker 7 (01:23:53):
Tyler Glass now, Rookie Sasaki, Tony Gonsolin, justin may is
what are these people? What do you mean they're good pictures?
Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
They have a nine man rotation. That's not very good.
Speaker 1 (01:24:07):
Yeah, they're all very good.
Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
Actually, Astro Astro struggling to put five out the field
in five in a week. Yeah, damn. By the way,
win totals. I'm seeing on the astros anywhere between eighty
six and eighty nine. Haven't seen a ninety yet. It
feels about right, I know, But are we used to that?
Speaker 1 (01:24:24):
What's the fangrass projection?
Speaker 6 (01:24:26):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
I know you've looked at that.
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
What is it called again?
Speaker 1 (01:24:29):
Fangrafs?
Speaker 2 (01:24:30):
Oh, fangraps? Yeah, I love fangrafs. I was looking on
the playing the whole ride to New York estrare.
Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
You were, you know, let's see the old projected standings.
Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
Because here's the thing, Ross, Remember how hard it was
for us last yearning doing the shows. How the team slow, slow, slow,
and Dana Brown kept saying, we're gonna turn this thing around,
We're gonna get going on this and they eventually did.
If you go eighty seven and seventy five, that means
that gives Astro fans seventy five tanchs to call our
radio show and complain and bitch about what's going on
(01:25:00):
and how Joe Spot as a terrot manager, Dana Brown's
a terrible general manager, and Lance Paccutters can't stay healthy.
Speaker 1 (01:25:07):
Fangress has eighty eight wins and that would be good
enough for first in the West.
Speaker 2 (01:25:10):
There you go, so you had another Western title.
Speaker 1 (01:25:16):
Uh, although there's an error because they only have them
playing one hundred and sixty one games. Maybe one gets suspended.
Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
Well, didn't they only play one sixty one last year? Right?
Remember remember that last game in Cleveland they had like
a nine hour Raindolan, I was falling asleep.
Speaker 7 (01:25:30):
Okay, you know what that must have been messing with
their algorithm because they have the Guardians and the Astros
only playing one undred and sixty one games.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
You know what, that's that's my metrics. I knew that.
Oh wait a minute, now, this is the twenty four season.
Never mind, I'm looking the wrong thing. That's what it
says that I just ruined.
Speaker 7 (01:25:47):
I just wasted two minutes of your finite time you
were all worried about.
Speaker 2 (01:25:52):
Yeah that in the Pro Bowl this week life, I'm
not getting back. I'm sorry. Okay, So yeah, we're Are
you all ready for eighty eight wins? Eighty and seventy
four is good. It's well about five hundred, but it's
not ninety. Sure as hell one hundred. Mmm. This is
(01:26:15):
gonna test some people's rossie. It's gonna frankly, it's gonna
test the baseball i Q of people in this town.
Speaker 1 (01:26:20):
Oh stop, found this test a year after year.
Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
He don't say to the people that listen to my wrong.
Come on.
Speaker 7 (01:26:26):
Now, we have a segment called Astros over Reactions.
Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
God, we're gonna do aos on the first day of
the season. Oh my god, I haven't forgotten me. Look
at the Astros. Opening day is against oh you know,
is it against it? I don't want to say what
is I want to make sure you get it right here.
They are playing late March. Opening day is against the
New York Metropolitan Yeah. Oh so we can see the
(01:26:54):
newest star. I want to you know, is that gotta
be an ESPN game? Don't you think I think the
second one? Is there something that he wanted? So Copeckory
first game. Don't quote me on that. I won't quote you.
All right, let's do to the news at noon that's
coming up in just a couple of moments here on
the radio program. We also want to get your take
on this NBA trade, And again, if you're not a
(01:27:15):
super big NBA fan, it's okay, I get it. You
don't have to go through the minutia of the Max
Christie acquisition or how the second round pixel affect the
Utah Jazz. We just had something happened in sports that
just never happens. We had a top five player, still
with tremendous amount of uh prime playing time left in
(01:27:38):
his career traded just because the Mavericks were tired of him.
Was it because he called a coach out? It wasn't
because he was trying to uh be out because of injury,
and you know, he's like faking injury. He's got a
legit injury. Maybe that's part of the problem. But the
Mavericks just said, we have a chance to give him
super max money, which nobody else in sports except the
(01:28:00):
current free agents get on their own team, and we're
punting on it. We don't think he's worth super max money.
It's quite incredible. The News at Noon starts in just
three minutes here on Sports Talk seven ninety lunchtimers, this
is the Matt Thomas Show. It is twelve o two
and h down what it's happening to lunch timers. Good
(01:28:22):
afterno to you and walk inme to the third hour
The Matt Thomas Show of Sports Talk SEVENINI with Ross.
We are with you today until two p m. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven nine. We present to
you as we do each and every day during this time,
the main headlines the world of sports, and maybe some
things off the beaten path. We present to you the
(01:28:42):
News at Noon.
Speaker 7 (01:28:48):
All right, Matt, we do have to start off with
the top news of the day. It has shaken the
sports world too its core. The Dallas Mavericks are done
with Luka Doncic as he gets shipped off to the
La Lakers. Lakers sending out Anthony Davis and a first
round pick. You also had the Utah Jazz mixed up
(01:29:11):
in this trade as well, so it ends up being
a three team trade.
Speaker 1 (01:29:14):
But the bottom line is the biggest piece is Anthony Davis.
Speaker 7 (01:29:17):
Going to Dallas, and then you have Luka Doncic becoming
an LA Laker ahead of his super Max extension. Nico
Harrison GM of the Dallas Mavericks says he didn't talk
to Jason Kidd about it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
You know, we kept it between us. We had to.
We had to keep it tight. Jay Kid didn't know
about it. But Jaki and I are aligned, and we
talk about archetypes and we talk about the culture that
we want to create.
Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
So I know the.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
Type of players that that he likes without actually talking
to them. Hey would you like you know? So I
know that, and JK coached them when they won a championship.
So so I think when you're aligned with your coach
like that, I know the type of players that he likes.
Speaker 1 (01:30:00):
I didn't have to talk to him. I didn't believe
him or not. Matt says, I will say, I mean,
I believe he didn't talk to him, but it's because
he I didn't have to talk to Jason Kidd about
the players he likes because I already knew. It's ridiculous, No,
I mean, I have a terrible analogy here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
I know Matt loves the McRib. I know he values
a McRib he wants a McRib every single day. But
I got him liver and onions and said for dinner.
Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
M Well, how about you're at a restaurant, your wife
goes to the bathroom and you order for her. You
probably want to check still you know what she likes
or what she wants, but maybe she's not in the
mood for that, like, yeah, maybe she already had something recently.
You would definitely check.
Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
But Ross, you traded a filet mignon. Now there is
some fat on that fil a mm hmm. Actually, let's
go with the marvel Ribby is compared to a better
example that that's a you gotta mark it's fatty, it is,
but you cut some of the way of that fat
still tastes good, real good. Hmm. You traded that fatty
(01:31:12):
marble ribi for sirloin. It's fine.
Speaker 1 (01:31:18):
Certainly it's not like it was bad like a McRib.
Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
Hey, McRib is America sandwich, No it is not. It is.
Speaker 1 (01:31:25):
If it was so good in America, sandwich would be
on the menu the whole year.
Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
You know what, It's a sandwich talking about twelve months
a year. That's it's America.
Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
I don't bring it up. You just brought it up.
Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
This show separates something others from any reasons.
Speaker 1 (01:31:37):
Yes, McRib talk more than anyone else.
Speaker 7 (01:31:41):
Continue on, Okay, let's continue on with Oh, by the way, Matt.
Trade grades have come out on ESPN for that trade.
The Lakers got an A minus. Can you guess what
the Mavericks got in the trade.
Speaker 2 (01:31:51):
I'm gonna go.
Speaker 7 (01:31:52):
F F is correct. Let's keep it with the NBA
because there also was. I mean, we'd be talking about
this big trade if it weren't for the Loup could trade.
San Antonio Spurs get d Aaron Fox and Jordan McLoughlin,
Kings get Zach Levine and CD Sissoko, Bulls getting Zach Collins,
trade Jones Kevin Herder at a first round pick. Bottom
(01:32:13):
line though, biggest impact here Zach Levine to the Kings.
But d Aaron Fox, they're going with the classic wing
and big Man combo. Daron Fox and Win be paired
up Matt, and.
Speaker 2 (01:32:25):
Don't forget Chris Paul's got something left from the tank,
not much. And the Kings have one really good rookie
his name is Stefan Castle. If they didn't have to
give him up in that trade, which I thought any
trade to Sacomono was gonna involve Stefon Castle.
Speaker 1 (01:32:38):
Yeah, they didn't have to.
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
Nope. I got news for you. The Spurs got significantly
better today. And even if they have don't make a
deep run this year because they're so far back, and
they're not super far back, but they're back. Uh. Daron
Fox's working with Greg ib bitch if he remains the
(01:33:01):
coach there, I mean, you have to that's maybe just
what he was looking for. I don't know, but it's
that's gonna be a ridiculously bad combination for Rocket fans.
I have to go see that.
Speaker 7 (01:33:10):
In fourteen year Darren Fox has been an All Star
this season. He's averaging twenty five points per game, shooting
forty seven percent from the field, just thirty two percent
from three. It's still very dynamic getting to the basket.
One of the top scores in the league and a
one time All Star.
Speaker 2 (01:33:28):
Okay, I mean, he wanted Ross, he wanted san Antonio.
He didn't hide it, and usually when you don't hide
it eventually happens.
Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
All Right, Matt, let's keep it going with some more
news of the day.
Speaker 7 (01:33:38):
I mean, just moving and shaking all over the place
defensive end of Miles Garrett coming off of fourteen sacks season.
He is twenty nine years old. He signed the rookie
extension in twenty twenty. There's only a little bit of
time left on that. He has requested a trade from
the Cleveland Browns. He's he actually released a statement. I
(01:33:59):
won't read it all, but here's part of it. While
I love calling this city my home, of course, talking
about Cleveland, my desire to win and compete on the
biggest stage won't allow me to be complacent. The goal
was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. It has
always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.
With that in mind, I have requested to be traded
from the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
And he'll get his requests acknowledged because the Browns were
probably not gonna be a playoff team next year. And
what I mean, what can Miles Garrett bring you back
in return? At least one first round pick? Yes?
Speaker 7 (01:34:32):
Uh, I say at least once. Adam Schefter was putting
it out earlier. The cop to this is probably the
Khalil Mack trade. Now, Khalil Mack was twenty seven at
the time that he was traded from the Raiders to.
Speaker 1 (01:34:44):
The Chicago Bears.
Speaker 7 (01:34:46):
Yeah, but it was two first round picks, a third
and a sixth, and a second and a fifth.
Speaker 1 (01:34:55):
Also, I want to say Khalil was on his rookie
deal at that point, though, I'd have to go back
and look.
Speaker 7 (01:34:59):
Okay, but the the contracts a little bit of a
different situation with Miles Garrett being older.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Yeah. Still I'm gutting step in right away. Healthy productive
wakes up with double decks, double digit sacks. He will
be a missing piece to anybody that wants to win
the Super Bowl. And imagine trying to sell Browns tickets.
Oh lordy, m come see that quarterback of the dash
name in his name in the back of his name,
(01:35:27):
Dorian Thompson Robinson.
Speaker 7 (01:35:28):
There you go, all right, Matt. Also, last night was
the Grammy Awards. As we go off the Beaten Trap. Yes, yes,
uh recap Beyonce with a big night. She won the
Country Album of the Year.
Speaker 2 (01:35:45):
Good for her.
Speaker 1 (01:35:45):
She also won Album of the Year. Overall your thoughts,
Matt on her latest album.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
It's strong, it's powerful, but it has a little bit
of delicacy and sincerity. At its core in some of
the second tier songs.
Speaker 1 (01:36:04):
And of course you loved the cover of Blackbird.
Speaker 2 (01:36:07):
You know I do. By the way, great tribute to
Quincy Jones last night as part of the Grammys. Oh
there was.
Speaker 1 (01:36:13):
I didn't check.
Speaker 2 (01:36:13):
Did you watch some of the Grammys very little bit
about watched the Grammy celebration Ncy.
Speaker 1 (01:36:19):
Yeah, I'm looking that up. Oh they had Herbie Hancock
on there. That's great.
Speaker 2 (01:36:22):
Yeah, Stevie Wonder And apparently Babyface was being interviewed by
the Associated Press. Did you see this on video? You
know what happened? Baby Face is being interviewed on the
red carpet stage right carpet, and a reporter for the
Associated Press saw a bigger celebrity behind him, and she
started calling him out, wanting to talk to him and
(01:36:42):
basically pushing baby Face.
Speaker 1 (01:36:44):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
Yeah. Associated Press has since apologized to baby Face for.
Speaker 7 (01:36:49):
They should have apologized to baby Face for that. Baby
Face is a legend.
Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
Yeah, he's the Kendrick Lamar of his generation.
Speaker 1 (01:36:57):
Well, it's up for debate.
Speaker 7 (01:37:00):
I'm glad you brought him up, though, Matt five Grammy
Awards won for Kendrick Lamar. He is now up to
twenty two in his career. Yeah, pretty good for a
thirty seven year old.
Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
Not bad for thirty seven year old. And he will
get his just reward by getting university beloved at the
super Bowl coming up on this Sunday.
Speaker 7 (01:37:17):
No, I don't think he'll be universally beloved. Not everybody
loves rap.
Speaker 2 (01:37:19):
Music, but he'll be a majority of people that beloved this.
I mean he's not.
Speaker 1 (01:37:23):
No, probably not, but that's okay. By the way, all
time Grammy Award winners number one all time Beyonce with
thirty five, Quincy Jones third place with twenty eight, and
somebody called Sir Giorg Salty is second with thirty one.
Speaker 2 (01:37:39):
Gk yon song so I have in my h well.
Speaker 1 (01:37:42):
He's he's a orchestral and operatic conductor.
Speaker 2 (01:37:46):
Which means I could have very easily have his songs
on my phone.
Speaker 1 (01:37:49):
As far as artists, well, do you know who? You
know who? Chick Curray is, right, Matt.
Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
You have a former voice in the Los Angeles Slickers.
Speaker 7 (01:37:56):
No, Alison House, Okay, Vladimir Horowitz, Stevie Wonder has twenty five,
Jay Z with twenty five, Kanye West with twenty four.
Speaker 2 (01:38:06):
Matt, maybe the competition has been easy. The last twenty
years or.
Speaker 1 (01:38:09):
So, they've added a bunch of awards.
Speaker 7 (01:38:10):
I always bring up to twenty two for Kindrick club
arr like a lot of those are. There's Best Rap
Song and then Best Rap Performance.
Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
Oh that's the same thing.
Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
That's a skim And then there's Best Music Video of course,
which Barry Manilo has never won. Best Music Video.
Speaker 2 (01:38:25):
Silks having best Cooked Hamburger and Best Tasting Hamburger.
Speaker 1 (01:38:29):
He also won Song of the Year and Record of
the Year.
Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
Matt, Yeah you know what this is. Then their stats
are fraudulent. Then no they're not. Ye had all those options,
he'd be in the thirties comfortably. Oh please hop he
knows be in the fifties. He's still only won one
Billy Jove Me in the sixties, El Joby in the eighties.
In the eighties.
Speaker 7 (01:38:50):
Apparently, Record of the Year, real quick, Matt. Record of
the Year honors the producers, engineers, the whole team. Song
of the Year is more about the song and the
song writers.
Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
So what is the record of the year.
Speaker 1 (01:39:00):
Record of the Year was not like Us by Kendrick
Lamar and the Song of the Year was not like
Us by Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 2 (01:39:05):
Yeah, my point exactly, guys, double dipping for one prize,
that's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:39:09):
That's a great song. It deserved all the awards.
Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
Yeah. I can't wait to hear it on Super Bowl
Sunday to universal acceptance. Up. Can't get enough of Kendri Flotmar.
He's gone. He's going to be the quick He'll be
better than you know what I got. I got a
hot take for you, ross No, okably better than the game?
How about that? Now?
Speaker 1 (01:39:28):
I think it's gonna be a really good game.
Speaker 2 (01:39:30):
I need to actually all right, that's a news and
new We'll start talking to the people of Houston next.
We want to hear from you, folks. Seven one, three,
two two five seven. Honey, I have a simple question
for y'all. Do y'all understand how big of a deal
this was in the NBA on Saturday. I don't. Maybe
we're not selling it hard enough, or we're overselling it,
but I think I'm I think Rossie, we're properly selling
how big this deal was.
Speaker 1 (01:39:51):
I think so too.
Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
You are moving a top five player in the primus career.
You're you are you are Toby Beef for sirloin. Kobe
Bee's got some flab on it, but it's still delicious
twelve fourteen Matt tamash Old Ross continues seven one three two,
one two five seven ninety seven one three, two, one
(01:40:15):
two five seven ninety two Creeks Crossing Resort has these
amazing cabins. They would like for you to come stay
in them, whether you're bringing your buddies, your wife, your
entire family, couple families. One of those waterfront cabins has
a hot tub right in the middle of it. It
is unbelievable. If you're looking for a little getaway for one,
(01:40:35):
two ninth, three nights, maybe some spring break plans, then
let it be with the folks at Two Creeks Crossing
Resort through this month month of February, forty percent off
of the waterfront cabins and twenty percent off the RV sites.
If you have an RV and you're looking to go
for a little roacha for two three days, stopping up
in the in the Lake Livingscenaria and Two Creeks Crossing Resort,
(01:40:57):
it's where it's at. They've got lots of mind amenities,
they've got a full workout area, high speed. Why throughout
five throughout the property there is pick a ball, there
is grilling area, barbecue pit area, there is a hot tub,
there's a swimming pool, there is a catch and release pond.
So much fun to do, so reasonable and such a
(01:41:18):
nice little getaway, and it's so close to home, just
ninety minutes from downtown Houston. Two Creekscrossing Resort dot com
two two Creekscrossingresort dot com. Remember forty percent off the cabins,
twenty percent off the RV sites through this month at
two Creeks Crossing Resorts.
Speaker 9 (01:41:35):
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross viareal Fine on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:41:43):
Twelve twenty Sports Talk seven Aunty Matt Thomas with Ross
with you on Sports Talk seven ETI we are your
home of the Rockets, home of the Astros, home of
good things all things Houston sports, including the Texans. Their
offensive coordinator list is quite lengthy. We'll go through that
coming up in a few minutes. Remember last Sarah Ross,
we did the UH to tell the truth. I thought
that another top twenty player will be traded. I still
(01:42:06):
believe that, But there is a story out within the
last hour that the Phoenix Suns are still taking now
phone calls for Kevin Durant.
Speaker 1 (01:42:15):
Interesting mm hmmm.
Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
He would be in that top twenties. I'd be a
loss on my part.
Speaker 1 (01:42:19):
Of Yeah, I know, and we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
They are eighth in the West right now. They are
a game in a two and a half out of
the sixth spot.
Speaker 7 (01:42:31):
You see Kevin Durant and a and Gary Payton going
out at it after over the weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
Yes, scary Peyton senior bro and not Gary Payton. Yes,
it was in the association. Yeah they were John.
Speaker 7 (01:42:44):
Excuse me, Kevin Durant saying at my age, you were
an eighth man on the bench, which is rude.
Speaker 2 (01:42:51):
I'm gonna tell you this. And unfortunately, I don't get
to sit courtside anymore on the NBA except just in
a couple of spots. There's also there's a kind of
a blessing disguy for that ross, because if I if
I got to hear all the trash talking that I
hear that at least see as the guys are making
baskets down the court, I won't be able to call
a game. There are some salty tongues out there in
(01:43:12):
the NBA guys just blaborate at each other back.
Speaker 7 (01:43:15):
And talking trash, and well the Rockets getting mixed up
with it with every team as well, so you seeing
a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:43:20):
Of Yeah, it's almost like the Rockets are kind of inviting.
But it's good. And the best I love is when
a guy take makes a shot and then he takes
off any other direction. He makes a shot he's going
to just like Dylan does that all the time. He
was doing it against Memphis that right against the Grizzlies.
So yeah, Rockets, by the way, with the loss the
last two losses have dropped at the third spot in
(01:43:41):
the West. They are half game behind Memphis. With the
two they have a two and a half game leader
were Denver for the fourth spot.
Speaker 7 (01:43:47):
Just stay in the top four. That's what that's my
goal the rest of this year. A first round home
court advantage.
Speaker 2 (01:43:54):
Right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Yes, let's go
to Biscuit on seven ninty at twelve to twenty two.
Biscuit with the good word.
Speaker 13 (01:44:01):
Cougar mad, cougar mad. They first fright, if I get
to my NBA take Man had some buddies over there
and for Tida, the center of the night man. And yeah, man,
the Texas take people. I guess when they're trying to
honor chaining, they was being rude. And I don't I
don't know what was up at that, man, but it
was you know, Buddy told me it was. They was
being real obnoxious when they were.
Speaker 2 (01:44:25):
Ye.
Speaker 13 (01:44:26):
Yeah, so you know, I don't know if they were
booing or making noise or whatever, you know, but that's
part of what the issue was of the night. Uh,
you know, and and and I'm with the coach. You know,
we can't expect them to win every game, Matt, you know,
but I tell you, I will say this, Matt, we
can't keep going to robertson last minute of the game.
Speaker 15 (01:44:49):
Man.
Speaker 13 (01:44:49):
If he can't hit free throws. Man, I think he
even lost at least two to four games this year
because of him missing free throws. And I don't know
what they can do about it, man, But if your
key I can't hit free throws, I mean I'm just
gonna file him and if he gets open, you know,
look for the layup or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
So well, that's college basketball. Sadly, the amount of number
of people that even are eighty percent free throw shooters
that crumble in the last two minutes of games. It's
as long as you're within ten with three minutes left
to go in a college basketball game, and you can
foul like that, you got a chance. Because I just
there very few clutch free throw shooters anymore in college troops.
Speaker 13 (01:45:23):
Well, I mean, but we were talking beyond clutch.
Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
What are you shooting?
Speaker 13 (01:45:26):
Came, I mean, Robert shooting about fifty free throw I mean,
it's a shock. Let me say this, though, Man and
and Ross, you can look it up. This is nowhere
near the worst trade in NBA is It's not even
the worst trade that the Lakers have benefited from Brusse.
Look at look up what the seventy six has traded
Will Chamber to the Lakers four. You know what even
(01:45:48):
better than that, look go to see what Milwaukee traded
Jabbar to the Lakers four. At least Anthony Davis is
an All Star. Now I'm not saying that I would
have made the trade or whatever, but let's let's pump
the brakes on worst trade in history. Anthony Davis at
least an All Star defensive first team or second team,
or he is at least in you know, these guys
(01:46:11):
You just brought up what I'm wross. We got a
trade with James Worthy for when you say don Florida,
come on, man, that was.
Speaker 7 (01:46:18):
It wasn't a one for one trade for them. It
was a trade that was made like three years before
the trade for a draft. You can look them up
before you come on air, Biscuit. I'm not your look
up boy.
Speaker 2 (01:46:27):
Yeah, we don't on the show.
Speaker 13 (01:46:30):
I'm just saying to verify it.
Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
We're verified. You ain't got.
Speaker 13 (01:46:35):
It's been some worse trades.
Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
This biscuit, Biscuit, it's worst. Let me tell you this
is gonna be an all timer, an.
Speaker 13 (01:46:44):
All please unless unless Lucas had win five championships with
the Lakers like Green did. It took Milwaukee forty years
to get back to the final.
Speaker 2 (01:46:56):
You just trained a guy that, by the way, him
and Kyrie were the ninety nine per That's then of
the reason why you went to the Western Final the
NBA Finals last year. You traded a guy who is
a multiple NBA First or second team player. He's twenty
five years old and wakes up flabby and still scores
thirty points a game with his eyes closed.
Speaker 13 (01:47:17):
Guess what Matt the Bucks had already won a championship
with your bar and guess how many MVPs he had
won before they traded him. Luke ain't won MVP. I'm
just telling you look up the history, man. I'm just
telling you. It's a bad trade, but it's not the
worst in history.
Speaker 2 (01:47:31):
It's going back.
Speaker 1 (01:47:32):
All I'm saying, Kareem asked for that trade too, nobody,
no matter.
Speaker 13 (01:47:37):
What happened, to get something more farm that's the point.
Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
That's not our fault. That's as bad as it is.
Speaker 1 (01:47:43):
I'll look up the nineteen seventy five trade.
Speaker 2 (01:47:46):
No I won't. No, I don't do that. We look
you at Ross who you are a verified guy, now
our look up guy. Whatever? All right, Yeah, that's this
is And look, I'm not the biggest I mean, I
like Luca a lot, but but there are flaws and
clearly Ross the Mavericks there they were. They didn't like
him for some major reason. A lot of it is
(01:48:06):
probably because they're worried about conditioning and soft tissue injuries
being the part of his future for the for a
long time, and they don't want to spend, you know,
super Rex something million dollars a year on a guy
who's gonna miss twenty games with soft tissue issues.
Speaker 1 (01:48:19):
Yeah, I can wrap my head around them.
Speaker 7 (01:48:21):
Kind of wanting to ship off Luca after it's the
relationship and gotten that bad. But it's to not start
a bidding war, to not consult your coach, and to
only talk to one team. I can't wrap my head
around that.
Speaker 2 (01:48:35):
And you know, good as well, ROSSI he would have
taken the Supermax deal. Yes, he would have because you
would not be able to get that money from any
other team, and he had shown no signs of discontent
and Dows Now he's probably mad they're always making fun
of his weight. But I mean, here's the here's the
(01:48:56):
bigger question, guys, is he gonna Is Luca gonna wake
up and go, you know what, Maybe I need to
get down to that playing level at weight that I
need to be at. Maybe I need to take better
care of myself.
Speaker 1 (01:49:04):
This could be a wake up call for him, hopefully.
Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
Because here's the thing I brought up last hour. Ross.
If he does any of that, or he just comes
back as he is and plays, you're gonna be able
to shove it down the Mavericks throat multiple times per
year when you play them Mono Wa Mono and in
the standings at least if you send them off East,
you'd be mad and disappointed. But you're not gonna see
(01:49:29):
You're gonna see. You see the Lakers on TV enough
as it is. They're they're adding games for more Luca.
Oklahoma City's like, man, hold my beard, we'ret number one West.
Don't care Luca on Lakers TV, ESPN, TNT, Max, Bravo,
Hallmark Channel, HG TV. There are TV networks that don't
(01:49:49):
even care the NBA Ross that want to have Luca
on the on their broadcast.
Speaker 1 (01:49:53):
That's it's gonna be insane.
Speaker 2 (01:49:56):
So if you were tired of watching the Lakers and
tired of watching Lebron to bad, you're getting more of them.
Twelve twenty eight. It is the Matt Thomas Show Ross
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. This trade
is going to haunt one of these teams and perhaps
(01:50:16):
two seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
Want to say about Uptown Appliance Repair. I'm so happy
that many of you have said, yeah, Matt, I called
Uptown and said please fix my sub zero refrigerator, Yes, Matt,
please fix my ice maker. Yes, the washer dryers on
the fritz, or yeah, I need that dryer event cleaned out.
That's what Uptown a Plants Repair can do for you
at two eight one seven, five eight nine nine seven
(01:50:39):
eight two eight one seven five eight nine nine seven eight.
They service every appliance in your home, wine sellers, wine rooms,
built in refrigerators, outdoor grills, and laundry equipment with a
one hundred percent customer satisfaction. There BBB A plus rated
and it's Uptown ap Plants Repair two eight one seven,
five eight nine nine seven eight. That's two eight one seven,
(01:51:01):
five eight nine ninety seven eight Uptown Appliants Repair dot Com.
Speaker 9 (01:51:06):
Matt Thomas, Ross Viel It's the mac Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
All right, so I am might to tell the truth. Ross,
I have a top twenty player not being moved by
Thursday's deadline. Do you do you disagree with that? Or
you you're have no opinion?
Speaker 7 (01:51:25):
At this point, I would say if I had a
lean yes, I thought one and four were true. I
think Kyle Twovy is gonna play a lot of leftfield.
Speaker 2 (01:51:34):
Is wetfield.
Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
Yeah, but it's about what you think, Matt.
Speaker 2 (01:51:38):
But are we ready for that? By the way, this
is gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:51:40):
Happen, Yeah, we're ready for I'm ready for it. Whatever,
who cares. Maybe we should help the first time he
drops a foul ball, fly ball. That way, errors get
made and left by everyone, right, everybody, And it's gonna
get a little bit more magnified when it's a little
jose LTV out there on fortune.
Speaker 2 (01:51:54):
Here's what we're gonna be looking for in all honesty,
is the first time that somebody tries to throw on
him going from third to home. Hmmm, especially min of
may Park or the porch out there is pretty short. Yeah,
so it'll be fine, okay, Yeah, if not for the
breakman trade, something else, whether it's guys coming up in
(01:52:15):
the system that are infielders again, I mean whatever. I
don't think Jimmy Pradies is a long term I mean
Jimmy Uhak Paradis.
Speaker 7 (01:52:24):
Why was Jimmy Paradis used to play for the Astros
in the Dark days, didn't he?
Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's skip that. East said, and I'm
gonna call him Jimmy Timore time. I promise you on
that Essak Preides is not long for third base with
his team.
Speaker 1 (01:52:35):
That's like when you would say, uh, Cappinger instead of Kessinger.
Speaker 2 (01:52:38):
Yeah, I'll for about that anymore.
Speaker 7 (01:52:39):
Yeah, Jimmy paradis an astro from twenty eleven to twenty fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
Ooh thirteen. I've done a lot of Jimmy Preides games
then post games.
Speaker 1 (01:52:47):
At least uh Ops is an astro five eighty five.
Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
It's not good? Is it not great? It's no Matt
Domingos ops. No, Remember that time they offered him a
contract and he said, off, I'm gonna better myself. He
lost Jay in spring at twelve thirty four on the
Matt Thomas Show of Ross Jay, good afternoon to you. Hey,
how y'all doing fellas good? So I just got a text.
Speaker 15 (01:53:15):
I mean I don't know how Again, Ross, I apologize,
I didn't verify myself. But apparently apparently Kyrie request of
the trade.
Speaker 1 (01:53:26):
I'm not seeing that from anywhere where. Did you see
that Jay who texted you?
Speaker 6 (01:53:30):
My brother?
Speaker 15 (01:53:31):
He's in tune with these I like to call him
thirdwell Country sports.
Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
Oh, I know I know where he saw it. He
saw it on a parody account, probably so.
Speaker 1 (01:53:41):
Fake News tell them to block that account.
Speaker 2 (01:53:43):
Yeah, it's easier to block. I've made fun of them.
Speaker 15 (01:53:47):
I've actually made fun of him over the years for
these third world country accounts. He'd be sending us text
about getting us out of siety about stuff and it
don't end up being true. But if it is true,
man and Ross, I mean, I know I read Lea's
a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths for
over the years. But he's been a pretty good profession
over the years, and I like to still think he clutch,
(01:54:09):
and I think he still got a good three four
years of Kyrie. He is a minimum. So would you
kick the tires of you the rockets seeing how I
would say we implode down the stretch, But we do
need that viable scoring threat, clutch player, and you know
in the clutch situation. So I just hear your thoughts
on that and see what you would be willing to
(01:54:30):
give up if he was available and if you were interested.
Speaker 2 (01:54:33):
Thank you J for the phone call. Kyrie has been
He's not not turned his image around, because I don't
think he's been The image has been out there much
since being a Maverick, but he's he's been really good there.
He's been a good leader. He plays, he scores, He
got along with Luca, got along with Jason Kidd. He's
(01:54:57):
he's been able to resurrect love was a bad in Baker,
but it was just kind of an underwhelming you're really
bizarre NBA player career.
Speaker 7 (01:55:06):
Yes, it's a bit of a bit toxic in NBA circles. Yeah,
but he's been great there, great in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
He's not leaving.
Speaker 6 (01:55:15):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
I think he knows that him bouncing around from team
to team the team is not in his best interes,
especially at this point in his NBA career.
Speaker 7 (01:55:22):
Shooting forty one from three this year, thirty nine and
a half percent for his career, just saying, that's pretty Darnlee.
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
Do you tell me you want the rocket grab a
thirty nine? I didn't say that. I mean, well, yeah,
actually I am telling you what I think you are saying.
I am.
Speaker 1 (01:55:38):
But I don't know if that guy is Kyrie Irving.
Speaker 7 (01:55:41):
I don't think he's thirty two A lot of money
on the book, Oh god, I'm sure he's making a.
Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
Ton of money. I can go down and find all
those guys are making up scene cash.
Speaker 1 (01:55:49):
Actually, forty one million this year. He's got a player
option for next year forty three million.
Speaker 2 (01:55:54):
You can't you can't carry him.
Speaker 1 (01:55:56):
No, I think the MAVs. Look Nico Harrison there you No,
there's no way.
Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
Oh, excuse me. He just trted a top five player
in the NBA. There's always gonna be a way, that's true. Gosh,
I would be shocked. I'll put it that way because.
Speaker 1 (01:56:09):
He's selling that. Oh, Anthony Davis is the championship piece
for us?
Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
Does anybody buy that? Now? Hear me ask you this?
And I brought this up before with uh Mark Medina.
Could this be a short term? Hey, this Dallas team's
gonna be a little peskier than we thought. Now they
do you put? You put Davis at the four? You
have Gafford at the five, Kyrie, PJ. Washington, Derek Oh,
(01:56:36):
Clay Thompson. Yeah, is hurt?
Speaker 1 (01:56:39):
Oh he's out for the year or what.
Speaker 2 (01:56:44):
I don't know, but I know he's not a he's
not abil right now?
Speaker 1 (01:56:48):
Oh, okay, right. Ankle's tress fracture will be evaluated in
four weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
That sounds like a round playoff time basically, give her take.
I mean that's I just gave you six really basketball players.
Hell PJ. Washington. Gafford alone helped the help the Mavericks
beyond the fact that that Luca was great last year.
Get to know what the Western Finals? Mm hmm, yeah, yeah.
Anybody thinking that they have that they're selling pieces off there,
(01:57:17):
whether they whether they're delusion or a lot, they did
this because they think for the here and now, this
gets some closer to winning the West again than further back. Okay,
that might be well in many respects, it's illusional because
if Luca got you the Western Finals last year, you
don't go to the Western Finals. If Luka Docs isn't
(01:57:39):
waking up theirrowing thirty against a opposing team, maybe that
last straw was when member he went to celebrate and
they went to go grab he went grabbing a beer
and they pulled away from him and you.
Speaker 7 (01:57:51):
Yeah, clearly yeahs As we said, there there is something
going on and stuff that we probably don't even know about.
We've heard about the weight stuff, We've heard about the
the referee stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:58:06):
In Euros can be how do I put this, I
don't know where you're going, Well like Americans can't.
Speaker 1 (01:58:16):
I'm gonna say American NBA players are full of themselves.
Speaker 2 (01:58:19):
What I said, don't care where he's from. I just
want to make sure his mom's okay, all.
Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
Right, she's doing great. I'm sure I would always heard
about people's parents. I'm surprised you don't follow her, ig.
Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
What is it? I don't know, Luca, Mom, Luca, Oh yeah, Mom,
No it's not.
Speaker 1 (01:58:39):
No, oh yeah, in there.
Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
You sure you don't know. I'm not sure. I don't
know what her account is. Luca, Oh yeah, I don't
think it's it. That would be a bad name, though,
better than oh yeah, oh no mom? Oh my goodness, man,
what a trade? So all we need now is bringing
get us a place to go, and then where did
it goes? You know what? You and I are going
(01:59:02):
to spring training a couple weeks, very excited. Yes we
are ahead.
Speaker 7 (01:59:06):
Will Brigman be signed by then? I think I've got
feelings two weeks, two weeks ago, So I got till tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:59:13):
I mean, would it be crazy if I said it's
done by next by his next Monday, it's done? No
crazy to say that. No, don't you don't you if
you're Bregman wanted to? I mean, how much longer can
you possibly wait unless you just have the ultimate patience
in life, like Yeah, the first two weeks of spring
training is over, ready to begin with.
Speaker 1 (01:59:31):
It's it feels like it's got to happen soon.
Speaker 2 (01:59:35):
I feel like we've been saying that for two months now.
Feels like we gotta you know, all Scott Boris knows
what he's doing. Apparently, maybe stopped by his office and
the way over to the arena tonight and check out
and see how things going.
Speaker 1 (01:59:50):
You should Scott Boris.
Speaker 2 (01:59:52):
I'm assuming he lives here. It doesn't all about big
power brokers live in New York.
Speaker 1 (01:59:56):
Probably he's probably got a million dollar homes in a
lot of Matt.
Speaker 2 (02:00:00):
That's probably true. All right, let's talk to Vince in
Midtown at twelve forty one on the Matt Thomas Show
at Ross Vince, Good, afternoon, Thank you for holding what's
on your mind? Hey?
Speaker 16 (02:00:11):
Yeah, on this trade, So I'm trying to figure out
Lakers are big losers in this in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
I'll tell you why.
Speaker 16 (02:00:19):
They just trade away their best defender, the rim protector,
and they're picking up one of the worst defenders of
all time in Luca and then offensively for the Lakers.
You have two ball dominant guys who like to massage
the ball. They're both great passers, but who are they
going to pass it to each other? I mean, so
(02:00:41):
it's kind of like, I just don't see how the
chemistry would work. Defensively, they they're going to suffer greatly,
and I think the MAVs got stronger with this trade.
Speaker 2 (02:00:56):
Okay, Vince, I would really frankly see it the other direction.
I would have to say that, Vince, with all due respect,
you're in the minority, like the big time minority, unless
you are maybeing related to Nico Harrison.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
Yeah, they're gonna be issues.
Speaker 7 (02:01:13):
The questions that he raised are valid, but that doesn't
mean that the tips of the scales to the Dallas
Mavericks winning this trade.
Speaker 2 (02:01:18):
Correct And ultimately, you know what, if there's only one
basketball for Luca and Lebron, guess who's getting it Luca.
And it's also not even about this year.
Speaker 7 (02:01:27):
It's about the Lakers are set up for the next
decade plus with a franchise player. That's that's to me,
the big I'm not even thinking about on the well,
what's gonna happen. I don't think either of these teams
are gonna win the championship, but you build around Luca
now for the next ten years. Yeah, this is huge
for the Lakers long term. Yeah, it's I'm in ten years.
Speaker 1 (02:01:50):
In ten years, Ad is going to be out of
the league, if not faster because of all the injuries.
Speaker 2 (02:01:54):
Well yeah, I mean he's out of the league halftime anyway.
Speaker 1 (02:01:58):
He played seventy six games last year, Matt, that is fair,
but go to the previous five years before that. I
probably average around fifty or so.
Speaker 2 (02:02:05):
Yeah, and one of them was this was this shortened
year because of the of the of the pandemic.
Speaker 1 (02:02:09):
Yeah, but there's only a few they only they still
played like seventy four to seventy five games, right, he.
Speaker 2 (02:02:14):
Look when he plays ross, he's good. He's he's twenty.
He's twenty and ten and a rim protector.
Speaker 1 (02:02:21):
Former.
Speaker 2 (02:02:21):
Has he won?
Speaker 1 (02:02:22):
Oh he has. He hasn't won a defensive Player of
the Year. Interesting, No, he's finished second, third, ninth, fourth,
never won a defensive Player of the Year, but he's
been a top ten tech type of guy.
Speaker 2 (02:02:36):
Yeah, all right, seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven to one three two one two five
seven unty let's give you the latest list of all
the different Texans o C candidates. One of them is

Speaker 7 (02:04:57):
Still can't believe the Giants got rid of sa Kwan
Bockley Giants.
Speaker 2 (02:05:02):
But at least we got the Mets and Wan Soto
is gonna be eating the Yankees lunch.
Speaker 7 (02:05:08):
Juan Soto couldn't hold Darryl Strawberries jack.
Speaker 1 (02:05:13):
He's overrated.
Speaker 2 (02:05:14):
We'll be at Phineas Pizza on forty seven through a
live show from there to slice a can of coke
eleven dollars boom.
Speaker 1 (02:05:21):
All he does is draw walks. You can't walk. You
can't walk yourself home?
Speaker 2 (02:05:26):
Yeah, just call Anthony Towns Is he really that?
Speaker 6 (02:05:28):
Is he gonna?
Speaker 2 (02:05:29):
Is he really a New York nick? I know his
dad coaches in New Jersey? But is he one of oz? Really?
He can't hold Anthony Mason's jack. He thinks he's like
Patrick Ewing or something. Patty what Patrick Ewing? Only one?
I want Patrick Ewing? That's enough, Matt, all right. Sure
(02:05:50):
they have really fun liners, though we don't have like
singing guy liners.
Speaker 1 (02:05:54):
No, that costs money.
Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
Maybe we should got our allience.
Speaker 7 (02:05:57):
What do we get you singing some liners? You're the
five time state choir champion or whatever?
Speaker 2 (02:06:02):
Oh more than that? Actually? Wow? Sports? Uh Sports Talk
seven ninety on the dial on the eye heard radio
app Oh.
Speaker 1 (02:06:15):
Yeah, perfect, yeah, we need that. We did that clipped immediately.
Speaker 2 (02:06:21):
But what do you like the big band?
Speaker 16 (02:06:23):
Like?
Speaker 2 (02:06:23):
All right, so if y'all can sing, do some sen
some honors too us well, and if they're decent, we'll
play them.
Speaker 1 (02:06:27):
I want to get you in a We need to
get you in a barbershop quartet. I think you'd kill it.
Speaker 2 (02:06:31):
Have have four guys singing the seven ninety I know, yeah,
Sports Talk seven ninety ninety ninety. Oh yeah, all right,
that effectively killed two minutes of a radio program. Thank
you if we had left.
Speaker 1 (02:06:45):
We'll get you in the barbershop quartet Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (02:06:48):
Totally my fault on that. Let's go to uh Corey
on seven ounty and twelve fifty two. Corey, good afternoon
to you.
Speaker 13 (02:06:56):
Hey guys, how y'all doing today?
Speaker 2 (02:06:58):
Good? Thank you for calling. Awesome man, I love the show.
Speaker 11 (02:07:02):
Glad y'all can get me on.
Speaker 6 (02:07:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (02:07:04):
I just had a quick question regarding the astros.
Speaker 17 (02:07:06):
In case Alex Bregman does decide to come back and
we do obtaining him again.
Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
Uh.
Speaker 17 (02:07:12):
I know we've had to talk to how Tuvey moving
to the ol Field, but why not Jeremy Payne. Has
anyone mentioned that per chance. He's very young, he's athletic,
really fast as well. I think you'd need a great
addition to either left field or center field.
Speaker 16 (02:07:30):
Move Bregman back to.
Speaker 17 (02:07:31):
His position at shortstop that he played at LSU, you
know in college days.
Speaker 13 (02:07:35):
I'll hang up and listen, thank us.
Speaker 2 (02:07:37):
Yeah, if Bregman is coming back, he's coming back to
the third basement peering into story. Yeah, he's your goal
glove there. If it ain't broke, you.
Speaker 1 (02:07:44):
Don't is not in LSU anymore. I've seen this a lot.
It's just not happening. And I think was it Dana
Brown or somebody in the Astros even mentioned like if
Bregman came back, he would be as a third baseman.
Speaker 2 (02:07:56):
Yeah. I think the reason why the second base shorts
that big game and to play, honestly from from uh
Scott Boris Ross was to try to get the people
interested in him.
Speaker 7 (02:08:06):
You could get yeah, Brigman back at h No, you'd
put Paradus at second. It's still not happened. I still
don't think it's happening.
Speaker 2 (02:08:21):
But when Polanco re signed with Seattle, did did it
make you think maybe there's a little bit of a
better chance.
Speaker 1 (02:08:27):
Yes, it did and then the reports from Channeler Roman
others that the the Astros have turned their attention to
to Alex Brigman.
Speaker 2 (02:08:36):
Hmmm, I don't know, can't. I think I've asked you
this question seven times in the last ten days. Is
there a certain part of him that says, I kind
of said my farewells if I come back here. It's
almost like it was my default and I couldn't find
(02:08:57):
anything better.
Speaker 1 (02:09:00):
Like uh, like somebody quits a job and then two
weeks later they're like, you know what, that was a mistake.
I'm trying to come back. You don't want to come
back with your tail between your legs.
Speaker 2 (02:09:09):
But the difference is it's six one fifty six. That's
what he was making. What he made he made twenty
five last year, right somewhere in that ring. Yes, yes, one.
I mean it's ROSSI. It's not choplivery. He's not coming
back at sixty cents in the dollar.
Speaker 1 (02:09:29):
Well, sometimes you go out there and you look at
the market, you find out maybe it's not so great. Yeah, analogy,
I'm gonna make another analogy, Matt.
Speaker 2 (02:09:44):
You know what we are having an analogy off today?
Speaker 1 (02:09:46):
Is it like, uh, you know, a guy gets divorced,
and he thinks he's just gonna be around and is
slaying everything that moves, and then he goes to the
bars and then nothing. He's like, oh, you know, you're you.
Speaker 7 (02:09:57):
You're in your twenties and you're at the bars and
doing great, and now you're and you're like, you know what,
this isn't as easy as I.
Speaker 1 (02:10:02):
Thought it was gonna be. Maybe I should have kept
my happy home.
Speaker 2 (02:10:07):
Maybe I got I got one on the relationship front.
You told your girl it's time to seeing other people,
and you start going back on those dating streets, and
it's not nearly as good as you thought it was
gonna be. And now you call her back and say, hey, girl,
I'm here for you.
Speaker 1 (02:10:25):
Yeah, basically what I said.
Speaker 2 (02:10:26):
And the astros of the girl they're like, yeah, come
on back. I mean, I'm not gonna lose weight for you.
I'm gonna be right at the way I am. I'm
gonna still let you have your boys on out once
or twice a month, and you're gonna hang out with
my parents once or twice a month. But you still
got all the benefits of being with me.
Speaker 1 (02:10:43):
Come on home, back to third base.
Speaker 2 (02:10:45):
Come on back, to six one fifty six six.
Speaker 1 (02:10:50):
He made thirty million, by the way, last year.
Speaker 2 (02:10:53):
Okay, so he would drop to twenty six thirty and
a half million dollars in the last two years. So
they're not prepared to get they're not. So do you
think it's do you think he wants thirty one million
dollars of your time? Six will be what one? Six?
Speaker 1 (02:11:12):
I think he would sign for that. I just don't
think anybody's offering that.
Speaker 2 (02:11:16):
No, No, clearly at this point it's no one's offering that.
All right, we have one hour left to go ross.
How you feeling you're surviving on this?
Speaker 1 (02:11:23):
I'm okay, I just I just had this bad call
for like a week plus. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (02:11:29):
Some maybe some medicinal tea could help you.
Speaker 1 (02:11:31):
I'm taking I'm drinking tea, I'm doing I'm on like
five different medications and nothing's working.
Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
Okay, y'all. Wouldn't you get to go fund you account?
Speaker 16 (02:11:40):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:11:41):
I'm fine.
Speaker 1 (02:11:41):
I mean, COPE is not great on my insurance, but
that's fine.
Speaker 11 (02:11:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:11:45):
By the way, nice work by the insurance plans. The
first six months. We're gonna screw you till you're you're
basically broke and then we'll pay for stuff towards the end.
Speaker 1 (02:11:55):
I got no further comment. That's my American hellism is great.
It's perfect, no comment.
Speaker 2 (02:12:00):
Yeah, we love it.
Speaker 16 (02:12:00):
We love it.
Speaker 2 (02:12:01):
You could do nothing wrong. All right, If you miss
our conversation with Mark Medina. He is the NBA beat writer.
You hear him on Fox Sports Radio here in the
weekends in seven ninety's all things about the Lakers, all
things about the NBA. We'll talk with him. We had
a conversation with him earlier today. It was a good
one and we'll replace him in for you next twelve
fifty eight. It is Matt Thomas Show with Ross Sports
Talk seven ninety lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show,
(02:12:28):
one oh three out of Sports Talk seven ninety. Ross.
Really quick before we get to this conversation we had
with Mark Medina earlier. I don't think I've ever said
I'm jealous for Dallas radio host, but I'm jealous for
Dallas radio host. You get the Luca Trade and Brian
schottenheimmers the Cowboys coach in the in one calendar week.
(02:12:50):
You're doing pretty good for yourself.
Speaker 1 (02:12:53):
Yeah, it's a little bit easier. But we know we've
had our good times here.
Speaker 2 (02:12:57):
Matt.
Speaker 1 (02:12:58):
We had David Kelly, we had the Astros, we had
Lovely Smith, super Bowl champing, I mean World Series championships. Yeah,
Trade jeams trained, Trade jeans hard and talk for like
five years. Is Matt Shobing elite quarterback?
Speaker 2 (02:13:14):
We had that for a long time.
Speaker 1 (02:13:15):
Those were good times, Vince Young versus Reggie Bush. And
then they went and got Mario Wait.
Speaker 2 (02:13:19):
Mariol Williams. I was that was before my time, but yeah,
i'd I'd love to have that. What else is there
we've had? There were a good old staples, at least
from a Houston sports scene. Matt Shop elite quarterback, the
three first player pick, Dwight Howard up. They kind of
started at all. We were on we were on the
(02:13:39):
edge of our seats on that one, That's true. Kind
of got the whole update. Things started all right. Mark
Madina covers the Lakers on the West Coast. He's also
an Iheart's NBA analyst. You can hear on weekends here
on these airwaves, and Mark and I had a chance
of visit earlier today. He covers the Lakers, covers the
NBA and I asked him about how well everybody meeting
(02:14:01):
la in particularly Dallas in Utah for that matter, kept
being secret. So when we all found out together, we
all did together. We were all massively shocked.
Speaker 8 (02:14:12):
Yeah, it seems like that was part of the calculus.
I thought it was notable that Nico Harrison his press
conference the other day was criting Rob Palinka for keeping
this secret. They had some informal conversations a few weeks ago,
and it was very comforting to him that word didn't
get out. So, yes, when you look at certain deals
(02:14:33):
like this or several years ago, when the Lakers got
Powbasol in two thousand and eight, no one knew about this.
I think at the same time, though, we're in a
different era where things get out quickly. There's a lot
more people on staff, so there's social media that any
expectation that nothing is down in the open is fairly unrealistic.
(02:14:54):
But I think given the context of they're talking about
a generational star, if it's out, who knows how it
affects the locker room and how Luca feels and if
a deal doesn't work out, you know, is it almost
like the toothpastes out the two but again I go
back to what the Dallas Mavericks got in return. Anthony
(02:15:15):
Davis is a great player. He's a Defensive Player of
the Year candidate. They are a playoff team, but you
could have gotten even more out of this. So I'm
just really surprised that this is what they've wound up
greeing upon.
Speaker 2 (02:15:28):
I don't know. Did you watch the press conference yesterday
with Harrison and with Jason Kidd. I felt disappointed with
Jason Kidd because I think he was a deer in
headlines on this, and in Harrison's case, I just felt
like he wanted to he needed to backtrack on almost
every single statement he said because people are probably in
that room going, this sounds good, but you're full of crap.
Speaker 8 (02:15:50):
I thought it was notable when Nico said right next
to Jason, Hey, he didn't know about it, but he's
on board. And what Jason's supposed to say, I mean
he said he's on board.
Speaker 2 (02:16:01):
Two.
Speaker 8 (02:16:01):
No one knew about this. It's just one of those
things that, again, unless Luca gave directives, I went out,
you may as well get something of value out of me.
I don't get this trade at all. I mean, the
Dallas Mavericks made the NBA Finals last season, and in fairness,
I did talk to some executives before the season started
(02:16:22):
for you know, season preview type work, and some of
them remarked to me that they felt like Dallas was
a one hit wonder as far as getting back to
the finals, but didn't really have anything to do with
Luca in any shortcomings he has. It was just more
of the roster that there. There was a lot of
credit being given that Kyrie. Kyrie Irving's shown that he
(02:16:45):
can co exist with Luca, He's a better leader. They
did get some roster depth, you know, they drafted Derek
Lively the second the PJ Washington, great wing player. They
just got Klay Thompson. But is it quite enough to
compete in this very head of Western Conference landscape, And
when you're looking at this trade here again, Anthony Davis
(02:17:06):
is a great player. He's going to coexist well with
Kyrie Irving. But I don't think it really does anything
as far as changing their playoff fortunes. It doesn't worsen
it significantly in the short term. There's still a team
that will be a tough playoff out. But I don't
think that this catapults them in the Western Conference landscape,
and I think the bigger thing is long term. There's
(02:17:27):
a lot of questions all their core players, Anthony Davis, Kyrie, Irving,
Klay Thompson, they're getting older in age here and where
you can trast that with the Lakers, I think there
are short term questions about even though Luka Dogis is
a generational talent, how's the fit going to be with
Lebron James and Luca even though there's a lot of
respect for each other. Just half the season's worth the
(02:17:49):
games has had enough to really get the chemistry going.
What are they going to do with the center position
and what are they going to do with their defense?
They don't have any good defenders. But in the long term,
the Lakers set themselves up to have that next generational
superstar for whatever. Lebron James the size of retire, and
that's obviously going to be soon because he's forty years old.
He still has a player option next year, but he's
(02:18:11):
obviously said he's toward the end of his career than
the beginning of it. So yeah, there's a lot to
unpack and the contrast between what this means for the
Lakers and the Mavericks couldn't be any clear.
Speaker 2 (02:18:24):
Mark Medeena is with It's Mark g Underscore, madenam d
NA with us here from Athlon Sports, CBSLA Spectrum and
of course you're here on weekends on Fox Sports Radio
right here on Sports Talks of Anny. Are you really
buying that Lebron didn't know anything about this before it
went down? I do?
Speaker 8 (02:18:41):
I do buy it. Actually, Look, I'm not going to
be a naive to say that Lebron James doesn't have
influence on the Lakers. You know, they obviously drafted Brony James.
They know how Lebron feels about things. But I think
the context that we have to be aware of is
that the Lakers dynamical Lebron James changed after the Russell
(02:19:01):
Westbrook trade. Now, there's a lot of different versions depending
on when you listen to the Lakers side of things
or Lebron's side of things. As far as to what
extent his voice actually carried weight with this Russell Westbrook trade.
You know, the Lakers would say, you know, Lebron really
pushed for it at eleven dour even though they're about
to get Buddy healed. Lebron's people will say, yeah, he
(02:19:25):
was in support of Russ, but it was in the
larger context of the Lakers asking him as well as
other deals. So with that context being said, since then,
because that deal hasn't worked out, there's been a healthy
distance where the Lakers really haven't factored in his input
when it becomes when it's specifically with trade deadline moves
(02:19:46):
and free agency moves, and Lebron has been detached from
that process because I think from his own self interest,
he doesn't want to get signed blame if a deal
goes bad and then says, yeah, well, this is what
Broun wanted. So I think we have to keep in
mind that outside of them drafting Browny James, and I
know that that is sparked a lot of reaction anyway,
(02:20:09):
the Lakers haven't done anything that has reflected what Lebron's
wanted from personnel standpoint. I think with Brawny specifically, that
calculus is a little bit different, where from the Lakers end,
they didn't feel like they really gave up a lot
because it's a second round pick. You know, most second
round picks don't really pan out well that much. He
hasn't really played much in the actual NBA. It's mostly
(02:20:31):
been G League games. So yeah, I do believe to
your original question that he didn't know about it.
Speaker 2 (02:20:38):
Yeah, I am Mark. I just feel like he knows
everything and so that's not and that doesn't really make
a difference at the point the deal was still made.
But I'm just I think I'm just naturally hesitant to
believe that that Rich Paul and Lebron did not have
some sort of intel before him. Let me get to
the Dallas side before wrap things up with you, Uh,
tell me exactly what we know about Mark Cuban's current
(02:21:00):
with the team. I know he's still the majority interests
of the franchise. I know that they're a new ownership
in the Dallas organization has casino ties. They have never
hidden the fact they want to get casino gambling in
Texas to build I think perhaps a future palace in
involving the Mavericks and a gambling casino mono mono. If
there's conspiracy theories out there on Twitter, which I don't
(02:21:23):
believe in, but you know what, for the sake of
this crazy story, are is the Dallas mavericks long term
future in jeopardy? If casino gambling does not come to Texas.
That is a very fluid thing.
Speaker 8 (02:21:38):
It's very hard to really answer that question because there's
so many moving parts as it pertains to any moves,
you know, relocation or just having new business ventures. But
I think to the original point that you're making about
Mark Cuban, I think that this illustrates very clearly he
doesn't run things at all. And pertaining to the basketball side,
(02:22:01):
now he might still have some role on the business side,
but if it were up to Mark Cuban, they wouldn't
be trading Luka donco. I mean, he's already been on record, yeah,
in a very strong statement saying if he had to
choose between you know, staying with his wife or trading Luca,
he would get his divorce papers ready. A little strong,
but that's what Mark Cuban is known to say. I
(02:22:24):
think the bottom line is whether it was Luca or
Dirk or any any kind of generational talent, Mark Cuban
was very, you know, a strong believer that you hold
on to those legendary players and don't make any exceptions whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
Because all right, that again needs Mark Medina out from
Los Angeles, Fox Sports Radio NBA analysts. He also works
on sports in at Central La Ross. I did check
Mark Cuban's Twitter account. He is not tweeted or responded
to anything in two days. Interesting, is silence golden or
(02:23:03):
is he just really busy and doesn't have time to
run to with social platforms.
Speaker 1 (02:23:06):
He probably doesn't know what to say. He's not the
he's not the majority owner anymore. Correct.
Speaker 2 (02:23:11):
Correct, Yeah, there's a woman that is running a casino
that the plans are for her when she bought the
team was to ultimately gel her NBA franchise with a
large casino in the Dallas Fort Worth metropolitan area. Interesting.
I mean part of it, I don't know a whole
lot behind the story, but a lot of it is
(02:23:31):
that she's a casino operator and that she must know
something that maybe Texas is closer than we think it
is to getting casino gambling.
Speaker 1 (02:23:39):
Well, if she's bought off and of politicians, that's how
it works in this in this country sports, am I right?
Speaker 2 (02:23:48):
Well, maybe she is.
Speaker 13 (02:23:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:23:51):
But part of the conspiracy theory, and again it's just
a conspirace, is that maybe that the Mavericks are tanking,
that that it would be better served if they to
go somewhere else. I don't know what their least situation
is at American Airlines Center. I can't imagine the Mavericks
leaving Dallas, hun for any reason. That's too big of
a media market, bo too good, just too much, too
(02:24:12):
much money there, too much. And if you're gonna, if
you're gonna put Vegas give a franchise, you're gonna gia
expansion team to let him start from scratch. The Las
Vegas twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:24:22):
Ones never ever, ever gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (02:24:26):
That hurts my feelings. I'm sorry, Matt. Well, you know
the reason why I thought they wouldn't be called the
twenty ones because you wouldn't have it. You wouldn't want
to have the number issue. But the seventy six ers
don't write the word seventy six ers on their jerseys.
Write six ers, that's true.
Speaker 1 (02:24:40):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:24:40):
And the Denver Nuggets have a uniform that has fifty
two to eighty across their chest. Yes, so maybe the
number business, which is ridiculous. It is ridiculous. All right,
there you have it, thank you man. All right, So
if you want to com at anything that Mark Medina
had to say, you were more than welcome to do
so seven one three, two one two five seven. Honey,
I still owe you the latest list of candidates for
(02:25:02):
the Texans offensive coordinator position. And why did not Chip
Kelly even kick the tires on Houston just for us
to have a little conjecture. On next one sixteen, it
is the Matt Thomas Show with ross seven to one
three two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (02:25:18):
All right, we're into the final weekend of NFL action.

Speaker 9 (02:26:59):
Matt Thomas, Ross Viil. It's the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross Hodd Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:27:10):
We've got a big feature Ross of the show, which
will debut tomorrow, be for this week only, and it's
guest you won't hear from Radio Row in the Matt
Thomas Show. Ross. Oh my gosh, you're not excited. I
can't wait. Okay, this list is unbelievable. I think I'll
(02:27:34):
believe it. Of the guess you won't hear on The
Matt Thomas Show, Ross, Gerrod Johnson, Jeff Nixon. Nixon is
the Syracuse offensive coordinator and running backs coach. Girod is
obviously the Texans QB coach. Thad Lewis, Buccaneers quarterback coach
Nick Kayley, Rams tight end and passing game coordinator Bill
(02:27:58):
Laser Leaser Laser senior offensive assistant. That's he's not getting
it no chance. Guys like eighty Grant Yudinsky, Vikings assistant
offensive quarter coordinator and quarterback coach, Brian Johnson, Buccaneers assist
(02:28:20):
excuse me, commander's assistant head coach. He was the OC
for the Eagles in twenty twenty three, and the latest
is Adam stenovech Stenovich Packers offensive coordinator. He's their offensive coordinator.
That's what it says on this they get rid of
them built huh.
Speaker 1 (02:28:37):
Okay, I mean he doesn't call I guess Matt Floor,
the floor calls plays.
Speaker 13 (02:28:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:28:42):
I mean it's if you know, like if there must
be an assistant head coach title above the guy above
him or Jesus doesn't call plays me.
Speaker 1 (02:28:50):
It's like how how Matt Burke is a defensive coordinator
but he believes him?
Speaker 2 (02:28:54):
Yeah? Yeah, I mean I'll say this, Uh, it's a
good list. I'm not think I say anyone's going my
got what are these guys doing here? They wasting the
Texans time. The list did not involve Chip Kelly. Who. Yeah,
I you know, college is fun and everything, but this
nil thing and having to go on the road and
recruit of these nineteen year old kids. I'm sixty something
(02:29:16):
years old, I'm old and cranky. Just give me some
players to let me coach. Well, and this is an
ungodly amount of money to be the offensive coordinator?
Speaker 1 (02:29:24):
Yeah, ungodly amounts. Did you see how much he's getting
According to Chris Gordy.
Speaker 2 (02:29:28):
It's is Schmish Morty breaking the story or no.
Speaker 7 (02:29:31):
I think I guess you got it from somewhere else.
But he's the only place I saw it. Tell him
six million dollars a year for Chip Kelly the highest
paid OC. I think it was Todd Monkin with the
Ravens making three million dollars.
Speaker 2 (02:29:47):
I wonder he left. But you know why if you
live in Vegas, it's cost of living, right, more expensive? Yeah,
I think I.
Speaker 1 (02:29:52):
Think the cost of living is low as long as
you stan out of the casinos.
Speaker 2 (02:29:55):
Yeah, maybe he can't do that.
Speaker 1 (02:29:56):
Yeah, Albert Breer is saying six million dollars a year year.
That is insane.
Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
That is absolutely insane, double the next highest paid coordinator
in the on the whole league. And oh, by the way,
every other courting in the NFL is like you get
a chip, thanks for setting the bar for us. That's
a crazy issue. Is I'm trying to look at what
Damiko Ryans makes. Is he It says he was signed
(02:30:27):
in the head coach in twenty twenty three six year
deal worth twenty eight million dollars, So no wonder Chip
Kelly wasn't in the mix. You were not gonna pay
your oc more than your head coach got rows six
million dollars for one half of the ball, and all
(02:30:47):
you gotta do is make sure that half is good.
If your team loses thirty seven to thirty four, you
don't care. You put up thirty four.
Speaker 7 (02:30:56):
As as you mentioned, it's this is great for Jim Kelly.
Fewer head and more money.
Speaker 2 (02:31:01):
Yeah, and no worry about nil recruiting good for him.
It's like you know when you know when people when
coaches would leave the professional ranks to go to the
college rinks because they're like, man, I don't want to
mess with the money and the free agency and people
getting mad or free agency. Ross college doesn't offer that
like you used tomb used to. You just have to
(02:31:23):
just have to make the kids, make sure they go
to school. Yeah, you took to re recruit them every
year and find new find new cash for him here.
Speaker 1 (02:31:31):
Yeah, you're dealing with free agents and there I mean
more emotionally volatile as you know, naturally twenty year old
more than a thirty year old grown man who who
has all their finances said it's gonna be different.
Speaker 2 (02:31:41):
So let me ask you this, if what is the
number one advantage for being a college coach over at NFL.
I'll give you two okay, lesser games, comparable money, I guess,
But it's all your stress level is not nearly as
much because you're not having to work about extra games.
Speaker 1 (02:32:01):
I think it was fifteen was it fifteen games coach
sark headed coach this year?
Speaker 2 (02:32:06):
Yeah, but only one person is doing or two people
are doing the three Okay, so that's that's not much
of an argument. But the number two is you still
get to run it more.
Speaker 1 (02:32:16):
Than other I don't know do you get but if
we're talking about coaches who are going to have their
pick of NFL or college, it's going to be those
coaches playing thirteen, fourteen, fifteen games a year.
Speaker 2 (02:32:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:32:26):
Nobody's looking for the guy that's not making his conference
championship game and not even putting and putting on an
NFL spheres.
Speaker 2 (02:32:33):
So what is the biggest advantage of being a college
coach of a pro coach? You still get to be
this CMO doesn't mean this chief operating option. If you're
into that, I guess are are you? Because here's the thing.
Are you more celebrated is let's let's go to college.
You have to win, you have to graduate your kids.
(02:32:55):
You got to make sure they don't get into drugs
and alcohol and guns and speeding and Indians use Where
the NFL handles that for you. If you're an NFL coach,
I'm doing this one on that they just pass them
off for the NFL. You have nil worry about. You
have the transfer portal to get to I mean, tell
me the significant advantages of being a college coach. I
(02:33:15):
don't see them, not like they used to be.
Speaker 7 (02:33:18):
I mean, maybe you're more of the it is Nick
Saban more celebrated in the state of Alabama.
Speaker 1 (02:33:22):
He's like a god there.
Speaker 7 (02:33:23):
You become more of a god and more of a
mythic figure and a legendary. But that's about it.
Speaker 2 (02:33:29):
But your leaseh is a lot shorter in college than
it used to be. You're making six seven million dollars
years ahead. Coach. If you don't win games in two years,
you're done.
Speaker 1 (02:33:36):
Ryan Day if they if there wasn't an expanded playoff
this year, he might have been fired.
Speaker 2 (02:33:40):
Yeah, that's crazy. That's absolutely crazy.
Speaker 1 (02:33:45):
For losing two games.
Speaker 2 (02:33:48):
So you know, mama's out there teach your kids to
be NFL coaches because the college game and as cool
as it used to be, it is not still cool.
Speaker 7 (02:33:58):
Yeh sixteen Ohio State played sixteen games. That's an NFL's slate.
Speaker 2 (02:34:04):
But it's funny that Ryan Day didn't show any stress
at all because his beard was still jet black, jet black.
Good for him. Seven one three two one two five
seven nunty. If you want to come in and say
hello to us, we'd love to have you on this Monday.

Speaker 1 (02:36:27):

fact checking me. I'm good with that.
Speaker 1 (02:36:39):

Speaker 8 (02:36:43):

Speaker 2 (02:37:32):

Speaker 1 (02:37:36):
Ross, Lonnie Paxton?
Speaker 2 (02:37:38):
Who's that? What do you mean? Who is that? You
know who Lonnie Paxon is?
Speaker 8 (02:37:42):
I do not.
Speaker 2 (02:37:44):
He is a former Patriots long snapper who is a
part of three Super Bowl champion teams with Tom Brady
and two, O four and O five.
Speaker 1 (02:37:51):
Wow, What's what's he gonna talk about?
Speaker 2 (02:38:00):
Well, we're not giving him a sponsored block, I can
tell you that. Okay. Guess we will not hear on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 1 (02:38:08):

Speaker 2 (02:38:12):
All Right, next up, NFL veteran Chris Heatherington. Heatherington, Chris Heatherington, Yes, okay,
I don't know what he did in fact on this
email we were sent. We don't know what teams he
(02:38:34):
played for. I got it for you.
Speaker 1 (02:38:37):
Uh, the Colts, Panthers, Rams, Raiders and forty nine ers.
Speaker 7 (02:38:43):
Graduate of Yale, smart guy went undrafted in nineteen ninety six.
Speaker 2 (02:38:52):
When was his last year.
Speaker 16 (02:38:54):
Of what?
Speaker 1 (02:38:55):
Oh the NFL O six of his life? No, he's
still's gonna say last year if is uh dentist school?
I don't know. All right, so Chris a fullback?
Speaker 2 (02:39:11):
Damn uh? Next? I guess you will not hear we
were offered Adrianna Adrian Smith. Adrian is a five time
member of the US women's national flag football team. I
was a woman. Yeah. She is a two time gold
(02:39:33):
medalist and tackle football gold medalist.
Speaker 1 (02:39:37):
God gold, it's not the Olympic Games.
Speaker 2 (02:39:40):
I'm reading the release, Ross, the release, don't lie. And
she's a two time I mentioned the gold medals and
tackle football. She's a six time national champion with the
Boston Renegades.
Speaker 7 (02:39:51):
Six time national champion. Yes, wow, that be a great conversation.
