Really cool way to spread the word for the show by wearing all
this stuff. And I get all the questions
about it when I'm in public wearing my stuff.
And just a good talking piece when you're walking around just
getting to know people and randomly come up to be like,
hey, what is this? And then you talk to them and
say, hey, you want to discover cool music that's better than
what's on the radio. Well, listen to this show.
(01:52):
Nice and easy. That's how a lot of
conversations on my weekends getstarted anyway.
So check out today's episode andmake sure you hit up the
playlist and keep an eye out fora bunch of cool new episodes in
the future. There's a lot of recording still
to be done and maybe some interesting news in the new year
(02:13):
as I always am working on something and I have some plans
coming up. So let's get to today's episode.
So across Waves, that is the name of the band joining me
today. I'd like to welcome Sarah Lynn,
Grant and Dale to the show. How are you guys doing today?
Good. I know we've had a little bit of
a fun pre show here recording kind of talking about what you
(02:36):
guys are from Goderich ON because it is a small town, it's
a fun town, but it is a small town and here in Ontario and
that I said don't worry about itbecause nobody knows where
Windsor ON is either. So we're both kind of lost in
the the whole shuffle. So, but welcome to the show.
Yeah. I'm excited because I'm I'm
(02:58):
really excited to share the music with the audience.
Today's track you guys have is Landmark, but we'll get to that.
It is a fantastic track, but we're just going to tease it
right now. There's a really good track.
It'll be on later in the show. But first, let's talk about the
band. If you guys can start off how
(03:18):
you guys got together when the band started, we'll take it.
Do it. So really what happened was when
I was in high school, I had justmoved to Wingham, which is not
far from God, which I guess, butI found a friend named Ryan,
(03:39):
which is Sarah's brother. And we kind of started hanging
out. We found out that we both like
music and we kind of made like aband back in back in the day
with another friend. And so we had our own band.
But then life kind of continued on and we all got jobs and the
band kind of quit. But after that is when me and
(04:03):
Sarah got married and then we kind of wanted to both start
another band again. So we got together and did that,
and we found Grant from Kijiji, Yeah.
And that's kind of how we got together, really.
That's cool. Not Grant from could you?
(04:26):
That's that can't be a nickname we can stick on him, can we?
Come on. That'd be great.
That that you know, that's a T-shirt right there.
You know what? I.
Would do that. I even let you have that.
That's just let's do that. Let's let's make you just made
cash right there. Alright, cool.
(04:47):
So let's talk about music inspiration and I'm sure you
guys have places to go in your writing process.
Let's go through that because I want to walk through your
influences in music. Well, let's start with Sarah
Lynn. Walk me through what inspires
you to create. I guess my biggest inspiration
(05:09):
was like when I was a kid, I wasalways around music and it's as
a kid my biggest inspirations with Britney Spears and Avril
Lavigne. And then I I grew up Paramore
became like an idol and then ever Lavigne stayed favored Dr.
and then it moved into metal core.
So I like the old bring me the horizon.
(05:29):
I probably Asking Alexandria. So it was kind of like all of
that was a big inspiration for when I write songs.
I like the the, the, the raw emotion that all those bands
like give out and, and it's, they're always like very in
depth with their lyrics and songwriting.
So that's kind of where my influence stemmed from.
(05:53):
Cool, Dale. Yeah.
Yeah. Dealing with a cat.
Oh, that's OK. The cat keeps jumping on us here
so. Nice this show deals a lot with
animals popping in and out. Trust me like 5 minutes ago to
calm my dog down because the neighbor happened to just walk
(06:15):
by the house so. Yeah, it happened.
Happens. This is why we recorded.
It's kind of a live show. It's all good, authentic.
So yeah, like same, same as Sarah.
Like I grew up with music with my parents too.
My dad was a guitar player and have no idea how drums happened.
(06:39):
It just was a Phase I guess thatI really got into.
And a Green Day was like my biggest inspiration.
And I started, I bought some sticks, some drumsticks and just
started like beating the couch with them really.
And after that is when I'm from Alberta.
(06:59):
So that's when that'll happen. And then once we move to
Ontario, that's when my parents,I guess, made the decision to
get me a drum kit because I was really big into beating the
couch all the time, I guess. And yeah, that's kind of how I
got in the drums, really. I believe you followed that up
(07:22):
with with the drugs because if anybody got into this
conversation right at that point, we'd have to explain
ourselves a little bit more. Grant, that's going to be your
turn to follow that one up. I don't know.
Yeah, for me it was like, I'd say like the Guitar Hero and
Rock Band games. Like.
I really got into music through that and then one day I got like
(07:47):
I found a guitar at a yard sale for like 10 bucks.
So I just bought that and kind of learn myself.
And then I played with some friends in high school and then
kind of took a break from it, and then they found these guys
on Kijiji. You really got the T-shirt
concept down. So fantastic.
(08:10):
All right, so the band across waves.
I'm sure you guys have sessions how things come together,
creating your band sound. How do those sessions usually
go? Somebody come up with like the
melody first, There's lyrics, you guys get together and write.
How does the the band come together and create?
(08:30):
I would say usually I have a vocal melody and the lyrics kind
of all down and then I show the guys like the we usually record
on Ableton to a metronome and then Grant will start.
I guess Dale starts putting the drums to it and then Grant
starts putting the guitar to it.And then after that we kind of
(08:52):
like. Get together and kind of start
drawing ideas out and then it kind of start some.
Great, have a song. Yeah, fantastic.
So let's get into the song that we have Landmark.
What's the story behind this one?
I guess this song is fairly special to me because at the
(09:14):
time I wrote it, I was struggling with a lot of mental
health issues and some past ghosts coming up.
But at the time I wrote it, I didn't really realize that I
guess because I was just, I was having a good time.
I was in the shower and I was humming a melody and then the
first words to the verse startedcoming and I really liked it.
So I grabbed my phone and I voiced, removed it.
(09:35):
And then I got out quick, went to my bedroom and within 20
minutes I had the whole song written and the melody done.
And the guys just downstairs andI ran down.
I was like, guys, I wrote a song.
But because I wrote it so quickly, I never took note of
the actual lyrics. So when I reread it back to
myself, I was kind of like, whoa, where is this coming from?
(09:57):
And then I just kind of realizedI wrote it about me trying to
outrun all of my inner demons. And that kind of hit hard with
me. So it was kind of a special one.
Oh, that's awesome. No, it's a it's a great track.
It's a great track and I think Ishould have everybody here right
now on the show. So let's play it across waves.
Landmark right here. No cry now I'm building inside
(10:28):
special form. Keep you out.
For maximum of. Rageous race, but I can't see
you pretend getting awesome. Can you?
(11:13):
My heart. Hello RO.
There are sections of your eyes.Every person eyes on it, you
(11:35):
back out in my view. Go out.
Cheap. 2.
(12:33):

OHS Kerry. Light.
(13:14):
It's just the landmark, landmark.
You stands on every inch. Shows.
(13:44):

(14:05):

the guest playlist is out there.Go add it to your own playlist.
Go, just go listen. Now you have to listen to me.
Just listen to the song. All right, so goals for 2025.
We still have a few more months left in the year.
(14:27):
What is Across Waves doing for the rest of the year?
Well, for the rest of the year we do have a show in in our
London at Palisade Sociable. So we're going to be doing that.
And then I think we're mostly focusing on recording and
writing new songs to be we've got like 33 songs in total.
(14:49):
So if I were fully finished and we're currently recording them.
But yeah, I think, I think we'remostly focusing on writing and
recording. So there's a few trail more
singles or we think an EP, maybean album or the plans.
I think we're we're thinking probably to shoot out a few
(15:10):
singles and then we might creep into an EP.
Nice. That's really good.
It's a good idea. Now if anybody listening, I'll
also follow you guys. I know there's a website
acrosswavesofficial.com, but what are some of the favorite
socials you guys have that you'dlike?
Anybody listening was to follow you get what's happening, where
should they go? I think our biggest ones
Instagram fast waves official Facebook across waves official.
(15:37):
TikTok Everything's at Across Waves official.
And then like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, that's just
across waves. They should go like falls the
subscribe and support. That's what we do now.
I like having bands on the show because I get to play a game and
we're going to play. Yeah, yeah.
No, no, not getting off that easy.
(16:01):
No, no, we don't have, you know, jokes about Grant.
Now we're going to have jokes about everybody because we're
going to get to know you guys even more.
Bye. Bye now.
What is on each and every one ofyour current playlist?
If I went on it right now, what would I find?
Right now I'm really into death coffee.
(16:24):
That. Bad that bad favor drives
version. All right, offer.
For me, I got the new dirty no songs on my playlist.
Yeah. Grant.
Yeah. No, no, no.
(16:45):
Dale, now that. Was.
For me, I don't really have any playlists.
I just kind of like put my wholelibrary on shuffle I guess.
But it's a lately, I guess it's been like a lot of metal and
like a lot of Paramore and just kind of stuff like that.
(17:07):
But yeah, I'm kind of just just listen to anything random
really. That's awesome.
I like that. I did my playlist on shuffle but
it never goes back to the same songs.
I think it's like 88 to 9000 songs.
It's it's ridiculous. That's cool, that's good.
I always like to know when find out what artists have on their
own playlist, what they refer toback and especially at
(17:28):
currently. So it's nice to see who
everybody's listening to, even when they're creating all music.
So I think that's very intriguing.
So definitely always like askingbands that because it's it's a
lot of fun to see what you guys are listening to.
Cool, fantastic. So I'm glad I got in touch with
Goderich ON across waves. Are you guys will be tagged with
their show everywhere. Everybody listening already
(17:48):
knows. Go follow, like subscribe,
support independent music. Sarah Lynn, Grant and Dale,
thank you so much for coming on the show.
Yeah, thanks, Fun.
