Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Welcome in hour two and a Wednesday live in Los Angeles.
It's the Herd. Wherever you may be and however you
may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your
game day. You know, Jmac I was singing about this
because last night, yesterday, I just I literally left this
studio and drove and had a bunch of stuff to do.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Right Hey yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
So I came in this morning a little choppy. Today
was a neuro gun day. Okay, synapses are fire and
sit at I'm giving the gum the credit. This is
not me. It's a gum show.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Does it get murder in two?

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Who needs to wait?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Booom?

Speaker 5 (01:10):
Did you say it's a gum show? You know, I'm
the gun show, You're the gum show.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Wow? Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
So Patrick Mahomes, not all dynasties are the same. Some
are fascinating, some of the San Antonio Spurs. Not all
all time greats are the same. And I was thinking
about this. Nick Wright said something yesterday, and I think
he was right about Patrick Mahomes now getting into other

(01:38):
team's head.

Speaker 6 (01:40):
You know who acts like they are every single week
playing vintage Mahomes and vintage Chiefs. The opponent you see,
everyone that is competing with the Chiefs treats them during
the game with the respect of this guy is going
to rip our throat out, which to me leads to
self inflicted wounds and mistakes. That allows the Chiefs even

(02:04):
when they're not playing great. They played really well for
three quarters against Baltimore. Since then they have played c
minus football, and yet they're undefeated.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
And I was thinking about this. Tom Brady beat you.
Did he get into your head? So Larry Holmes was
a heavyweight champ for seven or eight years. Mike Tyson
got into your head. Scotty Scheffler methodically beat you. Tiger
Woods got into your heads. And by the way, Scheffler's

(02:36):
on a heater, a Tiger Woods level heater. But with
Tiger remember that you would hear the galleries and you'd
that meant Tiger was coming areas. Tiger just got a
birdie and drove it three seventy, and it would intimidate golfers.
Did Scotty Scheffler did, Larry Holmes did Brady? There are

(02:56):
times Michael Jordan got in your head. Old Yankee Stadium,
those Yankee teams. It wasn't just the Yankees, it was
Yankee Stadium. The thing was loose. It was like it's
gonna tip over. I mean, the thing was smelled the
ghosts of Yankee Stadium. Now the new stadium's nice, it
doesn't feel the same. The Dodgers beat you, the Braves
beat you, the Astros beat you. Jeter, Old Yankee Stadium

(03:20):
got into your head. Michael did, Tiger did, Mahomes did.
And I do think there was a moment when it happened.
I think it's that what twenty twenty one Divisional round
game against Buffalo. Buffalo scores with thirteen seconds left, two
plays and forty four yards later, the Chiefs are kicking
tied overtime. Chiefs take the first drive, go down the
field and win, And it was like, oh wait a minute,

(03:42):
thirteen seconds against Sean McDermott's defense, that was a good defense.
Thirteen seconds is too much time. I mean, that's a
little John Elway. When I was younger, John Elway was
known big arm baseball player, could have gone to the Yankees.
But like John was known for, he would throw interceptions,

(04:04):
he would make mistakes. You did not want to give
John Elway the ball in the fourth quarter, and Brady
had that. But there was something about Elway's athletic ability
and Tiger off the tee and Michael Jordan and the
switching hands thing. Larry Holmes was a great fighter. Tyson
scared other men that fight for a living, and I
think I think Mahomes has gotten a little bit into that.

(04:28):
A man that may not intimidate you, but is earnest
and prepared. And the voice of college football Joe is
joining us today on the show. I don't know if
that makes sense, but I do think I can remember though.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
That's interesting. That's an interesting, interesting take. I think Manning
got in people's head a little bit. Remember when Bill
Belichick went for it on fourth down at like his
own twenty six or something like that. That's an instance
that you're talking about. And I grew up in Denver
watching those Lway teams, so watching like the old Brown's
teams of the eighties, Elway was in their head like crazy.
And then Schottenheimer went from the Browns and became the

(05:05):
Chiefs coach, and he was in Schottenheimer's head as well,
you know, So that's what happened.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Another one, if Floyd Mayweather, he's methodical.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
He didn't get it.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
He's just methodical. And Scotti Scheffler is just better than you.
You're not intimidated by him. He just gets more birdies
than you. Yeah, it is interesting the Miami Hurricanes that
Jimmy Johnson Miami Hurricanes had that vibe.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Yeah, they got in your head.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, Lou Holtz Irish beat you. Jimmy's team beat you
and got into your head.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah, I would agree with that. I would agree with that.
I think to some extent that's a little bit like
Alabama under Nick Saban, because think about so think about
it like this. Let me just bring it to college football.
Nick Saban did that to Kirby Smart. Georgia beats you
beat everybody except for him, couldn't beat him.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
He was one and five against And they have just
as many NFL guys.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Yeah, of course they did. He won national championships, couldn't
beat Alabama. So you know, Nick was in their head.
And we'll see what that game coming up this weekend.
We'll see if it's Bama still in their head versus
just being a Nick Saban issue.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Okay, so let's just stay with this. That's the game
of the weekend. I'm gonna throw something out. Those two
teams aren't the best teams in the SEC. I'm gonna
call it right now. Tennessee is gonna win the national championship. Wow. Wow.
I came on this show before the Oklahoma game and
I said, Oklahoma is They're not gonna score. Tennessee's got
the best defense in college football. Excellent coach, explosive offensively.

(06:28):
I think Tennessee's the best team I've seen. Tell me
I'm wrong, You're wrong. You could have paused. I mean,
you could have thought there's not a pause. They are
certainly I think, and I've said this on on my
program this week, they are national championship caliber. Okay, I
do not think that they're the best I've seen, partly
just because of the inexperience at quarterback.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Remember like iamalai Ava, while he played really well, still
made a few mistakes because ou still plays really quality defense.
I love him as a talent, and the defense certainly
is I would say, making up for a lack of
blue chip ratio. So they don't have the requisite roster
you would say to go win a national championship, Like,

(07:11):
for instance, did you know that Michigan's roster was the
worst roster as far as a composite to win a
national championship in the last two decades.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Yeah, they were ranked like fourteenth in the talent composite.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Wow, where's where's Tennessee?

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Tennessee's I believe sixteen right now, So it would be
a bit un precedent for Tennessee to go win the
national rip. Now, I'm telling you, I think that they're
that caliber. Well, but to just state that they're the
best team that I've seen, I think that that's a
bit of a bridge too far.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
I'm a take machine. Sometimes they come out Washington.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
You get like you get a good hair day, and
it's just fire.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I'm glad you mentioned that. Yeah, you got it noted.
For the record, Washington got to the Natty and their
talent composite was probably eighteen so coaching.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Matters A good question. I don't know exactly. Let's get
to their defensive line is incredible though. This Tennessee team,
and I'm gonna say this, I actually think that in
the SEC, specifically Colin Georgia and Bama are playing this week,
I don't know if they're even in the top two
in the SEC because of Texas. So like the loser

(08:17):
of this game is behind the eight ball. I don't
think that the loser of this game is going to
be able to get back to the SEC championship game
because the schedule Missouri plays, the way that Tennessee is playing,
the way that Texas is playing, and what their schedule is,
it's favorable as compared to like, let's say Georgia's schedule
the rest.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Of the way. All right, we're gonna pivot briefly to USC.
You don't need to spend a lot of time on this.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Oh interesting.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I will be honest. I am not a man that
ever used my hands. I was never built to be
an offensive lineman. My wife is often said, you have
cleaner hands than I do, because she's a Detroit girl
cars stuff. So I'm not somebody that can ever question
anybody else's physicality. Okay, I am now verbally I can

(08:55):
compete with Mo. Sure, maybe I'm not, but I watched
you say you don't strike fear in anybody game.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Yeah, quality chef.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
I will say this as a West Coast guy, a lover,
not a fighter. That USC offensive line and that Michigan
defensive line. It did allow Big ten fans a good laugh,
did it not?

Speaker 4 (09:21):
It did, and they couldn't lock the offensive line for
for USC has now been a problem in two games,
because it was a problem against LSU as well. Miller
just made up for it against LSU. Whereas he made
the mistake that he couldn't make against Michigan when you
got a first round probably top five pick out there
at corner and Will Johnson, who is going to hurt
you and not just get.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
The ball but take it back. He's a top six
to seven pick in the drive.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
And so he made the one mistake he couldn't make
while under the duress that he was clearly under against
LSU and then against Michigan. But you're right, and Michigan's
defensive line really owned that game. But the USC is
still in a position to win. You make a tackle
or a stop on fourth down and you win the
football game. So this notion that USC is not physical

(10:09):
enough to beat Michigan, I think is overblown because I
think that they ran the ball forty seven times, maybe
forty six times, and they had three big runs and
really outside of those three, they didn't do much run
in the football you know. And Lincoln Riley even said
it yesterday in one of his press conferences. He was like,
we really should have given up seven points. Yes, that's true,
and guess what, horseshoes and hand grenades are the only

(10:32):
places where close counts. But he is correct, and moving forward,
I know that they lost in a game that they
feel like they should have won. But I'm still bullish
on that USC team. That was their worst matchup because
of the efficiencies on the offensive.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Wee we talked about this at one point in that game.
They had two red shirt freshmen at tackle, and by
the way, they're good players. But Michigan has two best
defensive tackles in the country. Last year, Texas had him
had the great d tackles. This year Michigan has them,
and that Graham kid is again a top six pick
in the draft.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
That's correct and the Kenneth Grants, who's not Mason Graham.
He's a top fifteen pick. So they've got two defensive
tackles that are going to be in the top fifteen
the draft, a corner that's going to be in the
top five in the draft. And they lost by one
broken tackle. And so I'm not gonna panic about USC.
I think that that was a worst matchup for them.
Then let's say playing a Penn State, which they will

(11:28):
at home later in the year. Yeah, I think they
match up better against Penn State than they do Michigan
because of the power that we just spoke of on
the defensive line for the Wolverines.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
So this doesn't happen very often that We've talked to
a lot of Texas and I'm talking Tennessee and Baman
and Georgia and Michigan, Oregon, everybody. We're not talking at
all this year about quiet Ohio State. Nobody's just just quietly.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Sitting up there.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
They lose their quarterback, who says, hey, I'm out of here,
I'm going to Syracuse. He wanted guarantees. I'm not blaming
the kid. He wanted to play, and they go get
Will Howard from Kansas State and this kid can deal
and so you've done you now know you've seen this
Ohio State stuff. It's very rare when you can be
great and not discussed. It's a huge edge. They can

(12:15):
work through their problems. You don't get into the kids'
heads because kids are on social media today. You don't
want your nineteen year old players self doubt. Nobody's talking
buck guys, what do you make of them?

Speaker 4 (12:25):
Okay, So, Ohio State is one of the best teams
in the country.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Are they the best team?

Speaker 4 (12:35):
I think Texas and Ohio State are the two best
teams in the country.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
I think I would give the edge to Texas at
offensive line and quarterback and Ohio State it's the edge
everywhere else. Okay, so they're probably a more complete team.
But when you come down to, like the real important positions,
I think that Texas has maybe the nod in those areas.
I think that would be an incredible game. An incredible game.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Now good would that be for college football? Ohio State?

Speaker 4 (13:01):
That's what I have. That was my national championship before
the season. So here's something that you talk about. The
quiet nature of the beginning of the season for Ohio State.
This incredible team, a defense that could become the best
defense in college football, and an offense that might be
as explosive as any that we've seen. In fact, Charles Huff,
who's the head coach for Marshall, who coached on the

(13:23):
Alabama team that Tua played for and played against Joe
Burrows nineteen twenty nineteen LSU team, Charles Huff told me
this Ohio State team offensively is better than that LSU
team and he's seen it, so like that tells something
to me, something to me about them. I will just
throw this out there. In a season that could be

(13:47):
as long of a season as we've ever seen in
college football, I think it is a monumental advantage to
not have to play a matchup game where you have
similar talent to the opposition until later in the season.
This is exactly what happened last year with Michigan. Their
opening month of the season was nothing, which means that

(14:08):
you didn't have to basically physically get after it in
fall camp in August. You could wait and build into
the season, continue to develop depth with young players on
the football field, getting reps on the field, and then
your matchup games happened later, which means that you're only
physically really getting after it for a shorter period of

(14:29):
time as it relates to the entirety of the season.
So Ohio State last year had to play Notre Dame early,
so they had to bang early in fall camp and
really get after it and get themselves prepared for an
early season matchup game. That's what you saw this year
with teams like Texas and Michigan, and now Michigan has
had to play USC, and USC had to play LSU,
and now Georgia and Alabama. They're playing in the first

(14:50):
month of the season and here's quiet Ohio State. And
guess what they haven't had to do exert any energy.
And then a season that could be the longest season
that we've ever seen in college football, some teams might
have to play seventeen football games. Here they are and
they haven't had to exert any of that energy. I
think that makes them the most dangerous team in the country.
Not just their roster, but their schedule make up to

(15:12):
this point makes Ohio State my front runner for the
national championship. That's why I paused when when you said
Tennessee is going to win the National championship. The quiet
team in Columbus is likely the best team in the country,
and they haven't had to do anything.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Or been talked about, doubted anything. Just play the game,
get better slowly.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
So.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
I had a couple of weeks ago annointed Colorado new
fake ID of college football.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
How's that working out?

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Well? Just because you have a fake ID doesn't mean
sometimes you don't sneak into a bar and have a
great night. That happen. That's why, believe me, I have Truer.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Words have never been spoken, Colin. I never used.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
All six of my kids had but nonetheless steen years sober.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
How do you think I did?

Speaker 5 (15:53):
You?

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Probably early? Maybe and then late?

Speaker 4 (15:55):
No, Yeah, there you go. You grew.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
I grew.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
That doesn't such developed? I never have so Colorado game.
I watched it. I went out with my wife and
I sat there for an hour and a half.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
And you hope they lost, didn't you?

Speaker 1 (16:07):
I'm not gonna say that you did. I was surprised
they won. You secretly were hoping they lost. I was
more surprised they won. Does this reverberate? Does it matter?
Or is it just a wild, crazy fun win?

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Can it be both? Could let me let's talk for
the let's talk for a firm Okay, let's do that.
It was a wild, crazy, fun win. It was awesome,
It was awesome, awesome, it was It was a college
football at its finest, crazy, Yes, it was. And the
best players making plays. Leschiedeur throws it down there, Western
catches it. Who causes the fumble? It's Travis Hunter and

(16:46):
it's great. It's college football at its finest. And you
could make the argument that Colorado under Dion Sanders has
not dealt with success well. And so the question then
becomes after a great moment, in a beautiful moment and
a win over a team that you think, okay, maybe
this puts us in the upper half of the Big twelve,
now you've got to turn around and go on the

(17:07):
road and face a UCF team that is a fourteen
to fifteen point favorite. So what we haven't seen under
coach Prime is the ability for this team to stack
quality weeks because they'll have a great moment and then
you can tell they don't capitalize.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
On that very emotional program.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Yes, they're high highs and low lows for Colorado, and
the next stage in their development is to remove those
low lows. Raise your floor. You've got to raise your
floor if you're the Buffs. This week is the opportunity
to prove that they can raise their floor and actually
mature and deal with success. Now they're facing a team

(17:46):
that from a matchup standpoint, does not favor them. This
Gus Malson offense is one of the best rushing teams
in the country, and they do it primarily with their
quarterback and running back. But just like a combination of
runners in the backfield. J Jefferson remember him from Arkansas
ran all over Texas a few years ago. He's the
Knights quarterback at UCF. One thing that Colorado struggles with

(18:08):
because they believe in Travis Hunter as their corner. They
play a lot of man coverage. They've tried to accentuate
his strength in man to man defense. The problem is
is that they don't have other guys with that ability level.
And when you play man defense, the player that you
lose all the time is the quarterback. When he decides
to run, that will be exploited this week. I think

(18:28):
that that number is too big, but I actually think UCF.
I kind of like UCF from this game because of that.
It's more of a matchup deal than anything else.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Okay, Oregon in a couple of weeks is going to
host Ohio State. Before the season, I said Oregon's gonna
win that game than they struggle with Boise State and Idaho.
Now they've bounced back. Is Oregon better? Did they solve
their issues? Because if they're not ready to go, they
get blown out by Ohio State. They got to be
ready to go. But offensively, I saw their oline get
pushed around by Idaho. Ohio State's a different class of player.

(18:57):
What do you make of where Oregon's at?

Speaker 4 (18:59):
If you watch their games in silos, you come out
with multiple different you know, theories of what this team
is and conclusions about what they are. If you watch
them against Idaho, Ohio State's gonna beat the doors off
of them. If you watch them against Oregon State, you're like, oh,
that team can beat Ohio State. So it just matters
what you're gonna get from Oregon Now, I will say,

(19:19):
at the college level, for whatever reason, this correct combination
of five players up front really matters. They shifted their
offensive line a little bit after the Boise game. They
had been giving up too much pressure. Dan Lanning knew
it that was something that was not part of their
team a year ago. And then they shifted their offensive
line and that pressure went away, and Dylan Gabriel was

(19:40):
fabulous against Oregon State. This is a team that I
believe in, I really do. I think that they're more
like the team that played Oregon State than they are
the team that played Idaho. They go and if we're
being fair to Oregon, I think in hindsight, we might
look at the Boise game differently at the end of
the year because that's a team that's likely going to
be in the playoff, likely win the Mountain West, and

(20:02):
likely have a running back that's in New York vying
for the Heisman Trophy Ashton Genty. There running back is spectacular,
so we may view that game a little bit differently at.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
The end of the year. I almost went to Boise
State interesting for a weekend, not actually playing.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
I did not.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
It was a cute girl. I was interested. But then
she you know, did she dump you?

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Well I wouldn't call it that, I would call it
not return.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
She went in a different Oh she ghosted, you know,
that's what sheered the transfer portal. You see this UNLV story.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
I did see that story. Well, you promised this kid money.
UNLV's got a quarterback. He's very good. He came in
transferred from Holy Cross. They promised him one hundred grand.
Not there, no, no, no Holocast. It's another school I couldn't
get into. He goes to UNLV, they don't pay him
the money. He's like, I'm out and they're three and oh,
by the way, you can't this is nothing you can't prompt.

(20:57):
By the way, if an NFL player signed up contract
and didn't get paid, boom, every single person in the
sports media world would agree with the player. And I
hope that if that's the case with this UNLV story,
that all of us side with the player, because in
college we tend to be like.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Well, these kids have got to stay committed to their schools.
It's like, well, really, because he's promised something and he's
basically under contract for something, if he did not get
that money from UNLV, then we should support his holdout.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
In this case, I gotta believe they can find one
hundred grand in Vegas. I mean, of every city in
the country, you can find a good soul.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
That gets off of an airplane in Vegas. Thinks to themselves.
I'm gonna find a one hundred grand in Vegas.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
There's no city with more hundred thousand dollars opportunities than
Vegas at every casino. Go to Sam's Town right down
the road.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
You know what probably happened the guy that promised that
money to the collective. Oh, I had a rough night.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Is there any other lost it kind of night in Vegas?

Speaker 4 (22:00):
No, there's not.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Joel Klatt, here's his top ten. Throw it up there
real quick. I kind of agree with most of it
down the line.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
I got Miami up there high.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
For the record, I talked to a general manager on
Saturday who texts me during the game, and he said,
don't be shocked if cam Ward doesn't go number two
after Travis Hunter.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
I'm telling you, man, cam Ward can play. Camami team
is real. Yep, that Miami team is the real.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
Travis Hunter should go one. Cam Ward is in the
discussion for the second player drafted. Got a little attitude.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Get tend to see up there there you go.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Yeah, you do you deserve that? Where's it? Usc?

Speaker 4 (22:34):
Well, what do you mean they've lost? What are we doing? So?

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Do the Niners? I have him ten in the herd hierarchy.
A lot of people are committed all in loyal. That's
not your thing, it's mine. It's okay, I'm not judging
you're loyal, over accurate. This segment ending now, I appreciate
you stopped by.

This is the herdline news.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
How about those Cincinnati Bungles oh and three?

Speaker 5 (23:28):
After that embarrassing loss to Jade Daniels and the Commanders
on Monday Night Football after the game, instead of walking
to the locker room with the rest of the team,
there's video here of Burrow heading through a back door
and towards the coach's office with Zach Taylor.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
What is cooking here?

Speaker 5 (23:44):
Cal? You can also see DC lou Almoruno following behind them.
Burrow confirmed they had a private and very positive conversation,
said the meeting was a mutual decision. What is going
on in Cincinnati?

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Okay, Burrow had a very very good game. It's not
Burrow's lackey.

Speaker 4 (24:03):
He was ticked off.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Joe Burrow was really upset and he runs the franchise,
and Burrow could get both those guys fired tomorrow. So
Burrow wanted some answers. This was what Tom Brady did.
This was when Tom Brady I always thought kind of
turned on Belichick. When Brady had one of his best
Super Bowls and they wouldn't play Malcolm Butler and they
lost to Nick Foles in Philadelphia, and Brady was literally brilliant.

(24:27):
It was about as good as Tom could play. And
Belichick's rigidity and stubbornness and pettiness, and that's what he is.
I mean, Bill can be that he's a great coach,
but he can be that he holds grudges and he
wouldn't play Malcolm Butler in the locker room. Was ticked
Something happened here, some decision for Burrow to do that
is like he wanted the air clearers going on. Burrow

(24:49):
called that meeting.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
So I mentioned Philly is a potential coaching opening, Zach
Taylor Cincinnati. What if Cincinnati's opened, Philly's opening Jacksonville Again,
let me write it down.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Billy Billy's open. I would consider Zac Taylor a great.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Chance to win in that division.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Okay, okay, if Cincinnati's open, if Jack Taylor's booted, how
good of a job is that you get burrowed with
the division's top Well.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
No, owners ownership is cheap. I mean there, we've talked
about this. They haven't paid Jamar Chase yet and they're
already bailing on defensive players. I don't think Cincinnati you
could make the argument, although I will. I don't think
Dean Spanos is cheap. I think they've built new facilities.
But the Herbert is why you take the Chargers job. Now,

(25:35):
Jim Harbaugh is elevating everybody in the building. But there
was a reputation for years, especially in San Diego, the
Chargers were cheap. I don't think they are anymore. I
don't think that's the issue. But I think down in
San Diego that were fighting with a city council, and
I just think that was the vibe Cincinnati. That's still
the vibe. Like the coach and the quarterback haven't changed it.
Nobody talks about that now with the Chargers, there's a

(25:56):
good football team, good coach, good quarterback. I don't think
Cincinnati is would you go to a place because you
have a great quarterback, even if you know you just
got to deal with the.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
Other one's Jacksonville, which could we'll talk about them a
little bit, but like if Peterson's run off, like Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Here's nothing about Cincinnati really good. But it's got a lot.
I don't like in Burrow, and Burrow's injury prone, so
all of a sudden Burrow goes down.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
Now.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
I don't like the owner. The front office is the finances.
So Cincinnati's a if Joe Burrow never been hurt, I
would just take the job. I would take the give,
but I I Cincinnati is one of those.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Where the division's tough man. Ravens are always going to
be good Steelers. Seems like they're always going to be
good Browns.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
You can count being crapped.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
Since nineteen ninety, one hundred and sixty two teams have
started zero to three four have made.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
The playoffs, one of them Cincinnati, Yes.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
And the Bengals have the Panthers this week. I like
the Bengals a lot in this spot.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
It's yeah therefore now, but I like the Bengals on Monday, Carolina,
What do you think? I mean, do you think? Honestly?
So here's what. Let's show that video again with Joe Burrow.
So my first of all, I love this video very
TMZ love it so for them right after a game
to go so you think Burrow on the way out
of the stadium, Burrow had to say to Zach Taylor

(27:19):
and Lou or at least a Zach Taylor somewhere on
the walk off the field, we need to talk.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
You're not having mathtime, maybe something out, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
They couldn't stop Captain Lou, the great defensive coordinator, could
not stop teaching me.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Daniels was twenty one of twenty three. That's practice.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
I mean, at some point a coach has to pay
the price for starting out every single season totally.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Some of that's been Burrough's health.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
Can you imagine if every show here by first hour,
I just didn't have it because I didn't sleep, And
I'll just grog.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
You that was the reputation that was that was my review.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
You lost that, but that.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Was her you'd be sick of it.

Speaker 5 (27:57):
Yeah, I mean Burrow's got to be ticked off. Change
seem like they're imminent in Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
I think that.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
I do think Cincinnati. Burrow makes you think Cincinnati is
a great gig. But the Steelers job is a great well,
Steelers is really good. They don't spend a lot of
money in Pittsburgh. They can be a little cheap as well.

Speaker 5 (28:14):
Is it like a house. You go to see a house,
you're like, oh, look at this curb appeal. Then you
open the door, go in and there's a lot of
work that needs to be done because it feels like
under the hood, the Bengals just don't have a ton
call offensive lines not great.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
Well, well, Zach Taylor's under contract for two more years
and the Brown Yeah, but the Browns are cheap, the
Brown family. Yeah yeah, the Brown Bengals. You know, so
Zach's got two more years to get paid. They're not
the kind of ownership group that would just pay it
and get him out the door.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Even if Joe Burrow says, get I need a new
coach get him out of here.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Well, but I'm saying, your star quarterback says, I can't,
I can't deal with this coach. You're the quarterback's going
to win. Yeah, all the time. But I don't think
the Brown family's history is They're not writing a a
check for you know whatever, nine million dollars, I'm on you.
Sounds ridiculous, but this is their family business. This is

(29:07):
not a tech giant who has thirty eight. This is
not Mark Cuban, this is this is their money, all right.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
Next up, another zero to three team in the AFC,
the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Boy, they got waxed by the Bills on Monday night.

Speaker 5 (29:19):
Doug Peterson's on the hot seats could be coaching for
his job this week against Houston. According to Albert Breer,
Bill Belichick is a viable possibility to replace Peterson next season,
and adds that Tony Kahan, son of owner Shad Khan,
has a really strong relationship with Belichick. I'm sure there's
a joke about old guys going down to Florida to retire.

(29:41):
Here Belichick going to Jacksonville. I think Peterson's in deep trouble.
He's got to figure things out. I kind of want
to bet them this week getting seven against Houston divisional matchup.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
But that's deep.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Is Doug Peterson's Mike McCarthy. He's got a Super Bowl
and I mean literally he out coached Belichick in a
Super Bowl. See, you're like this one game, it's fascinating
because you're like, well, Doug Peterson went toe to toe
with Brady and he had Nick Foles and out maneuvered it.
Maybe it was just a great day.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
One game.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
He did win a playoff game in Jacksonville. So they're
now I'm not saying McCarthy.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
That the game they trailed like twenty seven, nothing to
do well, they wont We watched some of that together.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Yea were first out. I think, oh it's over.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
So it's interesting is McCarthy and Doug Peterson are clearly competent.
Clearly competent, but it does feel like it's a loose
operation that's might take Jacksonville feels light on details and loose.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
That's crazy.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
I didn't think of Dallas and McCarthy. So Dallas could
be open, Cincinnati could be open. Philadelphia and Jacksonville. Those
are four good quarterbacks. That's probably the worst of that.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
So last year there was only one team that had
a good quarterback in Hardball's like, I'll take take one.
This year you could have four. That's a great point
by you. That is a you don't get that Lincoln Riley,
oh Hillot, Well, see, you gotta get a call from someone.

Speaker 4 (31:00):
He has to.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Well, I think he has to beat Wisconsin, Penn State,
Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
I just got the line here. They're favored by sixteen
against Wisconsin.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
They're gonna beat Wisconsin. Struggles to score.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Yeah, let's see here.

Speaker 5 (31:15):
What do we have next five games for Jacksonville is
Houston in the Yeah, they have back to back London
games for the Jags. Maybe they just leave Peterson over
over overseas. Hey don't come back from London. They got
Chicago and New England back to back.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Oof, that's rough.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
I like the Belichick coming back next year, Belichick revenge
tour somewhere. Final story Colin is the NFC North matchup
on Sunday. Packers Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores my gosh,
allowing ten point seven points per game, good for second
in the NFL behind the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Minnesota has been great.

Speaker 5 (31:51):
Flores has been outstanding, but Flores knows he has his
work cutout for him going up against Matt LeFleur.

Speaker 7 (31:57):
Certainly got, you know, one of the best coming up
as far as offensive coordinators, and I've had my share
of tough days against the floor and his offense is
dating back to when he was in Tennessee. I think
for Matt to go on his bag and be a
West Coast guy and then turn around and he's got
this whole zone Reid Rpo counter read, I mean, that's

(32:19):
pretty impressive.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
I'm hiring Brian flora Is after this year, and I'm
not a defensive coach guy. I'm hiring Brian Flores. He
even looks like, call me crazy. Have you noticed what
Brian Flores has done twice this year? Remember when Tua
came out and talked about what a horrible guy he was.
He immediately addressed it. He immediately came out and apologized

(32:41):
and addressed it. And now he's talking Matt Laflour, Brian smiling,
he's in a good mood. He's complimentary Brian Flora as
his agent has said, Brian, you're great. You gotta lighten up.
He immediately. I was surprised by addressed to Tui stuff.
He's like, I feel terrible. I've gotten better. He addressed
it out.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
Coaches don't use lye and that.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
If you notice Brian Flores, his agent's in his ear saying, Brian,
everybody thinks you're great. He's Bellichick. Guys, nobody's hiring him.
You got to lighten up, and he is. So I
would hire that guy.

Speaker 5 (33:14):
A lot of people who break down these games. I
don't think that they're gonna notice this. This is week
three in a row. Flores will take on a Shanahan offense,
faced Kyle Shanahan and Rock Perty.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Last week it was Houston.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Uh so you're saying advantage, huge advantage for Flores now again,
Lafleura came from the Shanahan tree.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
They've been together Shanahana Laflora in Houston, Washington. I don't
think he's gonna be caught off guard with anything.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
And he's got Malik Willis Well.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
It's the other thing is Jordan Love.

Speaker 5 (33:44):
It looks like he's going to return, according to Rappaport,
but he won't be one hundred percent. Jordan Love missing
two games and seeing all these exotic blitzeres from Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
I'm not getting in front of Sam Darnold in Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
I'm just done.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
I'm not You're not what I'm not getting. I'm not
betting this game.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
I don't think sometimes like Baltion more Dallas, I just
want to watch the game. I don't have to bet
every game. We both like Baltimore, we did it, but
I didn't bet it. Okay, but I think Green Bay Minnesota,
I just want to enjoy the game. I don't want
to be stretched out.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
X's and O is really good stuff here and again
Flores is cooking.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
I know we're talking about Belichick is an option Flores lot.
You know he's got got a lawsuit against the league.
Can you hire him if he's got that?

Speaker 1 (34:23):
I wasn't he right?

Speaker 3 (34:24):
I'm sure he's right, but it's still like I shouldn't
say that.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
I don't know it is glubby. You know that's it's fair.
They are you're going to be the.

Speaker 5 (34:33):
One to hire that guy, you know, like it's one
of those deals. He's obviously great at his job. We
know that great, tremendous. I mean Brock Purty and C. J.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Stroud went to the microphone and said, yeah, I don't
even know what I saw. So they're the quarterbacks who
were good? Are telling you? Yeah, I was totally confused.
They're not rookies. I mean c J. Stroud didn't play
like one. And brock is you know these guys are good.
They're spinning it. Jamack lenews, Well.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
That's the news, and thanks for stopping by The Herd
Line News.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
Malik Neighbors is so Goodie should have come with a
warning label. I will explain that coming up next.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
Start your Saturday strong with Big Noon Saturday. Fresh off
a huge win over usc, the twelfth ranked Wolverines are
back in the spotlight as they battle Minnesota in a
Big ten class. It all starts at ten am with
Big Noon kickoff, followed by Minnesota versus Michigan at noon
on Fox.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
All Right, Daniel Jones in New York, they're trying to
be positive. The city had a great weekend. You Aaron
Rodgers spinning it dominate the Patriots. Daniel Jones ago Cleveland.
I watched every snap. They look really, really good. And
now many picks and pretty good protection, o lines, planning
pretty well for the Giants. But it is Cleveland and
has destroyed Cleveland. Cleveland's bad. They're a mess, shocker. But

(36:05):
what's funny is you got to watch the games and
Brian Daboll, Now, Brian's like, you know, being positive. This
is nice. Here's Brian Dabole been another good week.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Yeah, I mean he's he's had two good weeks in
a row.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
You know, I don't know, another one hundred plus quarterback rating,
two touchdowns, no interceptions, you know, handled the noise well,
the good job and not turning the football over. But
he was locked in and he's been that way and
so listen, we're not here to be negative. But it
is funny when you watch the game. Milik Neighbors is
so great. He should come with a warning label. Elk

(36:42):
Neighbors may induce a belief that Daniel Jones has gotten
really good. Not really so. One of the touchdown passes
two d D's no picks was overthrown and then Elike
Neighbors should have been another pick. He Randy Moss, the
guy on the sideline, like Melik Neighbors is just unbelievable.
So it's not a you know it is what it is.
His passer rating was like one ten PFF had him graded,

(37:04):
is the third lowest graded quarterback Sunday after Anthony Richardson
and Skyler Thompson, and the passer ratings had won ten.
So it does show you the value of I mean,
like when Randy Moss went to New England, Tom was great.
Right we knew Tom was really good. It broke every record.
Like when you have a sensational player, it does change things.

(37:24):
And moliite neighbor. If you watch the game, you would
not have thought one ten passer rating. Now you watch
Jayden Daniels with Washington, you're like, wow, kids running kit,
Or you watch Joe Burrow on Monday, You're like, wow,
it wasn't really a wow. The wow was elite neighbors.
And he listen whatever it takes. So here's the good news.

(37:45):
I like their coach, I like their left tackle. I
like elite neighbors. I like their defensive line. They're not
a hapless franchise. Giants have something cooking here and he's
not throwing the big picks and big interceptions. But if
you just didn't watch the game and you look at
the box score and you see one hundred and ten
passer writing two Touchdow has no picks. That's not really
what it's the nobody can guard mylik neighbors and and
that's good to have. By the way, you know two

(38:07):
is leading the league in passing and Pro Bowls. If
you if you didn't watch the game and you looked
at Tua's numbers and then you see Mike mc you
see McDaniel's coaching, Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle, So, uh,
it sort of changes your perspective when you actually watch it.
So I sat and want I said, I'm going to
give this game. I want to make a definitive opinion

(38:28):
on the Giants. Uh, Cleveland's a mess, and it was.
It was a Malik story. It's not really a Daniel
Jones thing. Should come with a warning label. The good
news is they've been looking for a guy forever. It
feels like I've been you know, Odell Beckham had like
a couple of years left, and they've been looking for
a guy since then, and that that was a while ago,

(38:51):
and they found him, and uh, I don't know. Durability
became a huge problem for OBJ. I don't think neighbors
has the durability concerns. Uh. Here's the Week four schedule
for the New York Giants. Are they real? Well, we'll
find out tomorrow night. The play I'm guessing the wise
guys like Dallas, New York is beat up in the
back end. I do like their defensive line, though, I

(39:11):
don't think you know, I think New York's pretty good
defensively upfront. Okay, j Mack, look at the schedule. We
got fifty seconds until we're going to our three. Pick
the upset. Pick the upset?

Speaker 4 (39:25):
Whose favorite?

Speaker 3 (39:26):
Arizona's favorite?

Speaker 1 (39:27):
Dang it?

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Because I like Arizona against Washington. Buffalo can that? Is that?
Because I think they're underdogs.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Right?

Speaker 3 (39:35):
What's the line of Buffalo Ravens. That's an interesting game.
It's just such a good game. I kind of want
to stay away.

Speaker 1 (39:40):
How about the Old Old Chargers.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
That's comical? Come on, is Joe All gonna play? Is
Slater gonna play? Is Herbert gonna play? No shot?

Speaker 1 (39:53):
This is a tough week for upsets.

Speaker 3 (39:54):
I like a lot of favorites. Okay, Bengals, Bengals, Panthers,
the Old Chargers. You're you're rocking with the chargers.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
It's so far.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
I think it's gonna be interesting. Wow, all right, I
think it's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 5 (40:09):
Yeah,
