This is Gary and Shannon and you'relistening to kf I AM six forty,
the Gary and Shannon Show on demandon the iHeartRadio app. Ready for your
gas alert. Oh sure, ithas just become a blow it up Tuesday.
Damn. Okay, that's right, because the world's rarest whale has washed

(00:24):
up in New Zealand. It's asixteen foot carcass. It is the near
mythical spade toothed twhaleh Is it areal thing? Yes, it's a real
thing. I said near mythical, not mythical. Well, they say they're

(00:49):
still trying to confirm that it isin fact that spade tooth whale, and
if so, it would be thefirst chance for scientists to cut up or
blow up a spade tooth whale asit rains down on the town's children.
The spade toothed whales are the mostpoorly known large mammillion species of modern times.

(01:14):
It's bittersweet that it wasn't alive andwe couldn't study it in it's a
live state. But the next bestis a fresh sample like this. It's
an odd way to put it.The spade toothed whale was first documented in
eighteen seventy four from lower jaw andteeth samples collected on Pitt Island, about
five hundred miles off of New Zealand'swest coast. The first intact specimen came

(01:38):
from a mother in calf stranding inBay of Plenty. How funny is that
a couple of whales get stuck inBay of Plenty. I don't think funny
is the right word. Ironic. If in fact this is a spade toothed
whale and it's dissected, they'll bevery interested in the details of the stomach

(01:59):
and the gastruin festinal track. Theytalk about what they meant honestly that smell,
like what it was eating and allthat sort of thing, and then
they'll they'll blow it up. Thebreaking news just before the top of the
hour, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendezhas been found guilty of all sixteen counts

(02:19):
in his federal corruption trial. Thisis where he was getting gold bars and
cash and dinners and cars and thingslike that from Egyptian nationals. It was
a nine week trial where prosecutors laidout their case that he abused the power
of his office to protect allies fromcriminal investigations in rich associates, including his
wife, helping Egypt access millions ofdollars in US military aid. He did

(02:47):
not testify publicly. He said hewas only doing his job. So we'll
watch the fallout on that. Oneof the things that happened yesterday was that
President Biden sat down for an interviewwith NBC. He's Lester Holt, and
you could argue that this did youknow it was along the same lines of
the interview with George Stephanopolos in thatI don't think it helped Joe Biden at

(03:08):
all. What's with you guys?Come on, man? He went after
specifically the question or Lester Holt didabout Okay, let's tone down the rhetoric
a little bit. But just ashort time ago you said it's time to
put Trump in the bulls eye.Well, let's talk about the conversation this
has started, and it's really aboutlanguage, what we say out loud,

(03:30):
and the consequences of those You calledyour opponent an existential threat on a call
a week ago, you said it'stime to put Trump in the bullseye.
There's some dispute about the context, but I think you appreciate crosshairs. I'm
talking about focus on Look, thetruth of the matter was I just to
say that you said cross The termwas focus on Trump's Yeah, the term

(03:54):
is bullseye. It was a mistaketo you. I didn't. I didn't
say cross bulls. I'm going tofocus on it, focus on what he's
doing. Okay, now, AndI understand the explanation. I get it.
But if you're going to suggest thatrhetoric is a problem, then just
say I'm part of the problem.Just say I screwed up too, right.

(04:16):
But instead he pivoted and said, yeah, but the other guy,
there's a whole range of things thatLook, I'm not the guy that said
that's a juvenile response. That's theguy that except the outcome of the election.
I mean he could even he couldeven I'd be satisfied with he if
he left it with I made amistake choosing that word. I meant,
we need to focus on him andthe deficiencies and this and the policy differences.

(04:40):
And I'm not even going to bringup the things that he has said
because I don't want to fan thisflame anythore or he could say we're all
guilty of it. Maybe it startedwith Trump and his name calling. Maybe
it continued with people like jd Vancecalling Trump America's hitler, and it continued
with me saying put him in thebullseye, and we're all at fault and
we should all unify in improving andcleaning up the political rhetoric in this country

(05:03):
that can be so dangerous. Butno, the whole like shifting a blame.
And maybe maybe that's Joe Biden tenyears ago is articulate enough. He's
he's always been a kind of averbal sniper is probably not the right word.
He's always been a guy who's willingto throw it back at you.

(05:25):
Has Joe Biden, just like DonaldTrump, is different characteristics about how they
do it. But he's always he'snot one to back down from a name
calling context. No, but ifyou're going to preach accountability and better rhetoric,
then you got to just own it. Be the first. Yeah,
be the first. Now, thereare two other things that he said in
this interview. I've never seen acircumstance where your ride through certain royal areas

(05:47):
of the country, people have signsthere, big Trump signs with middle science
saying f Biden and the little kidstanding there putting up his middle finger.
I mean, that's the kind ofstuffed It is just inflammatory. It is
it's terrible to see. It's awfulon both sides across the board. But

(06:08):
I was gonna say, but theother but you don't think people have said
awful things about Donald Trump. Buthe's right in that there are no flags.
Democrats don't fly flags that say FTrump in front of the homes.
They do giant baby balloons of Trumpwearing a diaper or something stupid like I
mean, not that I've seen.I've only seen let the liberals cry,

(06:29):
you know, Trump. But it'smore about it's more about support for Trump
than it is F Joe Biden.I do see F Joe Biden stuff,
especially in Orange County. Sure, but you don't see F Trump. Democrats
don't do that. They're not goingto put a flag outside of their home
says F Trump. I totally disagree. Have you ever seen one? Absolutely?
I have not. Maybe I justlive in more conservative areas. Then

(06:53):
this was the way they ended theinterview, and this did nothing to help
Joe Biden. What happens if youhave another so like we saw during the
debate, what happened. What happensyou have another performance on that part on
that level. I don't plan tohave another for us. Oh my goodness,

(07:15):
that was the end, guys.Yeah, that's it's not going to
get better. It's just going tokeep up degenerating. Unfortunately, if we
if we get to that point inlife, that's what happens secret Service when
we come back. Hey, whycan't people ever just say, you know
what, my bad up going tothe drum board. You know, I'm

(07:35):
resigned, sorry about that. Isee like that always to my wife.
You know my bad you know yougotta do that. Anyways, That's just
what I had to say. Ihope you guys have a great show like
always. You guys are the best. Well, it goes a long way
to say I fed up. Yes, although I don't know what he's doing
with his wife. But rarely arethere instances where someone probably died and someone

(08:00):
did die. Yeah, right,I forget right. Eight years ago.
They didn't really do much four yearsago, obviously because of COVID, at
least not with audiences. I remembergoing back to you know, we would
do our show in the morning fromthe parking garage and then go back to
the event center that night and listento some of the speeches, and it
just got the impression that very fewpeople were paying attention eight years ago.

(08:22):
Maybe there's the delegates are on theon the floor, they're chit chatting with
each other, they're shaking hands, they're meeting people from other parts of the
country and everything. It seemed likelast night everybody was dialed in. Yeah,
And I don't know if it's theI think it's the assassination thing.
I mean, that helps, that'sa hopeful way to put it, But
I think there is that. Doyou remember eight years ago when we were

(08:46):
in Cleveland and the anticipation to seethe Trump family and you know, Luca
came out and then Donald Trump Junioror whatever the rotation was, and everyone
got real quiet because it was goingto be what is this what is this
family? What are we doing? You know, are they politically minded?
We get to see them make theseformal remarks for the first time, and

(09:09):
it was there was a lot offascination around them. The did you see
any of the speeches from last night? The amber what's her name, Amber
Rose? Amber Rose? I didnot see that. So this is a
one time what would you say shewasn't married to Kanye? Was she listen?
I am not your pop culture maven. She has all google it though.

(09:33):
She's famous for showing a lot ofher party party parts, her body
parts. Well, depending on whichonly fans page I suppose you subscribe to
my My point is she was inthe music video for put On That's How
They Met, which featured Kanye.Let's see here. Her spouse is Whiz

(09:56):
Khalifa. At one time they divorced. That's who she he was married to
was whisk A Leaf. Okay, now she has You're on talk show,
She's got a talk show, she'sgot a podcast she likes to She's a
mom. And she actually talked aboutlast night in this four or five minute
speech whatever it was, that hergoal now is solely to have a place

(10:20):
that she can raise her kids,a safe neighborhood, state, country,
where she can raise her kids andgive them something to live look forward to.
She's beautiful, and she said he, being Donald Trump, is the
only person that could do that. That was one of the speeches that kind
of caught people by surprise. Also, the president of the Teamsters union,

(10:41):
when's the last time you heard theTeamsters union, breaking ranks with the Democratic
Party and endorsing a Republican on anylevel, in any position is shocking.
That was shocking. And it wasn'tlike a Sean I remember his name,

(11:01):
Sean something was he was. Hewas adamant about what he was talking about
last night in one of the longerspeeches that they gave. And again a
lot of times the speeches at conventionsare just riff raff. They're just you
know, people who have been chosenbecause they look nice or because they and
these were stories from people that caughta lot of attention. So that was

(11:26):
I just happened to see some ofit when I was flipping back and forth.
Amber Rose does sell pictures on OnlyFans. She wanted to start earlier but
was delayed because of pregnancy. Youdon't hear that all the time, do
you? No? No, wedon't, Okay. The other story that's
breaking right now is that New JerseySenator Bob Menendez has been found guilty on

(11:50):
all sixteen counts in his federal corruptiontrial. Twelve member jury found him guilty
on all sixteen counts after this twomonth ty while on charges that are probably
going to end his political career. The prosecutors accused him of bribery, acting
as a foreign agent for the countryof Egypt, obstruction of justice, historiation,

(12:11):
not conspiring to commit those crimes.Remember this was that home search where
the FBI found all those gold bars, the stacks of one hundreds Mercedes Benz
in the garage, all of giftsfrom Egypt in exchange for our United States
funding of these various power players inEgypt. He is still currently seeking reelection

(12:37):
to the Senate. He's running asan independent because no Democrat wants to have
anything to do with him, andhe's already faced calls to resign from his
former friends in the Democratic Party inNew Jersey and on Capitol Hill, and
in fact, Chuck Schumer, theSenate majority leader, has now called on
Menendez to resign from the Senate inlight of this guilty verdict or these guilty

(13:00):
verdicts, and he'll be sentenced.I believe, I thought I saw that
it was Octobers when he would beSENTI he's been indicted twice. In twenty
fifteen, he was charged with lettinga wealthy Florida eye doctor by his influence
through luxury vacations a jury could notreach an unanimous verdict in twenty seventeen,

(13:20):
so they dropped the case rather thanput him on trial again. After his
second indictment last summer, he claimedhe was being persecuted, saying some people
cannot accept that a first generation LatinoAmerican from humble beginnings could rise to be
a US senator. How dare youwell? And remember that was his excuse
for having hundreds of thousands of dollarsof cash on hand at his house and

(13:41):
the gold bars, saying, well, that's how I grew up. You
had to hoard cash and put itin aluminum foil in the freezer, so
nobody knew that. Everybody does that? Really, what I mean not the
freezer part. Which cash you haveat your house? Like twenty five bucks
in a foil in the freezer somewheretwenty five But it's all single though,

(14:03):
so it looks like a good stack. Oh dare you insinuate that I am
working? Working? Stripper? Artisticis what you are? You're not a
stripper artistic dancer. I like that. It's nice. The bruises, you
know, it's just character. Idon't have any bruises currently. I rest

(14:24):
my case Bob Menendez. Senator BobMenendez found guilty of all the counts and
his bribery trial. He will besentenced October twenty ninth, faces decades in
prison. Actually, let's start there. Evan Lambert, Washington, correspondent for
News Nation is joining us Alive fromDC, and Evan, let's start with
the Bob and Endez story really quickly. Just that it came down maybe twenty

(14:48):
minutes ago or so. He's notgoing to last in the Senate. They've
already been calling for him to resignright well, really, as soon as
the news dropped that he had beenconvicted of all charges, you immediately saw
a statement that appear to really havebeen ready from a Senate majority leader,
Chuck Schumer, who called on SenatorMenendez to resign. So that is obviously

(15:13):
a big signal of where Democrats arehim being the leader of Democrats in the
Senate. But before now, theSenator, Senator Menendez has said that he
intends to stay in the race. He's running for re election. I think
many people will look at this convictionon all accounts for bribery, acting as
a foreign agent for the country ofEgypt, and other felony charges as something

(15:37):
that would likely doom his re electionbid if he doesn't choose to resign.
Now, what's the mechanism for gettingrid of him? And what does that
district look like in his absence?Well, I mean the Senate and also
the House can hold members accountable.I believe it's two thirds. If two

(15:58):
thirds of each chamber agree, Soin this case the Senate, than they
can expel a member. It's somethingthat is exceedingly rare, I believe fifteen
times or so throughout history. Thismay be the first time that a sitting
Senator, or at least in recenthistory, has been convicted of charge these
kinds of charges while serving in theSenate. So that would be the mechanism

(16:19):
if he didn't choose to resign. As far as who his replacement could be,
you already have running against him,a congressman from New Jersey out of
that same area. The name hasgiven me right now, but Andy Kim
and so he is already running andlikely has pretty good chances given the outcome

(16:41):
of this nine week trial. Well, that's all just developing here in the
last couple of minutes. We expecton Monday that the House Government Oversight Committee
is going to hear from the USSecret Service Director kim Cheatle. That's going
to be all eyes are going tobe on that hearing on Monday morning.

(17:06):
Oh absolutely. And I'm actually stillon the ground in the suburbs of Pittsburgh
right now, not too far. We're really just in front of the shooter's
home, as we have been forthe last few days since Sunday or early
Sunday morning, once we found outwho the shooter was according to authorities.
And yes, this is now obviouslyin the spotlight and the obvious security failures

(17:33):
of the Secret Service, who areultimately in charge of protecting protecting presidents and
events exactly like this. We expectthat the Secret Service Director Kimberly Chetle will
be at that hearing the House OversightCommittee that is on Monday. There's also
expected to be a public hearing ofthe House Homeland Security Committee the next day

(17:56):
on Tuesday that is expected to foodCheetle and then also the directors of the
FBI and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Majorcis. So we'll be hearing from all those
leaders with impertinent questions about how anyof this happened. When it comes to
the planning. I mean, thebiggest question obviously being how this shooter was

(18:18):
able to scale the building, whichhad a slope proof and gave him that
straight sight line to former President Trump, allowing him to shoot off those rounds
and strike the former president and membersof the crowd, obviously killing another member
a spectator at that rally. Andwe've learned really just over the last several

(18:40):
hours. The Secret Service director,in an interview with ABC News, said
that that building from which the shooterfired his weapon actually had local law enforcement
officers inside of the building at thetime of the shooting. They were assigned
to protect that building, according tothe Secret Service, but ultimately the Secret
Service director said the buck stops withher in that interview with ABC that all

(19:07):
the Secret Service is responsible, fullyresponsible for the protection of presidents. It's
wild that there were agents or officersinside and nobody stationed on the roof.
More than a dozen guns found atthe family home, that's not something out
of the realm in that part ofthe country. And then we also heard
that police went to that home afterthe dad called police saying he was worried

(19:32):
because his son and his ar riflewere missing. Do we know the timeline
of when that phone call was made. I don't have confirmation of that reporting.
The timeline is something that the FBIis still working to build. There
have been some reporting that the ATFwas able to basically provide key information to

(19:55):
identify the shooter within thirty minutes afterofficers Secret Service counter snipers shot and killed
him. He apparently didn't have anyidentification on him at the time, but
they were able to get the serialnumber from the rifle, and it immediately
came back to his father and theystarted going through family members, found a

(20:17):
picture of the shooter and compared itto the shooter there at the scene after
he was deceased, and were ableto identify him within thirty minutes. That's
some of the latest reporting that's outthere on at least the timeline of how
quickly they were able to identify thisindividual when he didn't have identification on him.
Evan Lambert, News Nation, thanksso much for your reporting, appreciate

(20:38):
it. Thank you for having meyou Bett. The former president also met
yesterday with Robert F. Kennedy Juniorto discuss the possibility of him endorsing Trump.
According to many people familiar with thisthing. Kennedy has said it wasn't
that he denied that he had anyplans to drop out of the race.

(21:00):
There was actually a video that leakedthat showed him on the phone with the
president, with the former president.I think he was emarrassed. I think
that was leaked on purpose, well, he said, I think it was
Kennedy. Believe anybody that that leakedit, but without his dad's permission.
I don't know how it went exactly. Kennedy took to Twitter and suggested that

(21:22):
it was not what he wanted andhe was embarrassed that the It was just
their phone conversation. It wasn't anythingspectacular or anything. Doug Bergham may serve
in Trump's cabinet if he does win. In November, Burgham told CNN Trump
referred to him as mister secretary whenhe called to tell him he would not
be his running mate. That's anice way to smooth things over. Thanks

(21:45):
for all the footwork, the legwork you've done and being a surrogate.
You're not the guy, but thankyou, mister secretary. You're a guy.
Yeah. Tornadoes and straight line winsrock Chicago last night. National Weather
Service said there may have been asmany as ten tornadoes that touched down around
Chicago during the evening. At leastone person was killed. Residents woke up

(22:07):
today a bunch of power routages causedby the severe storm, commed cruise and
emergency management teams working to clear theroadways and residential areas. Too big All
Star Game tonight in Arlington, Texas. The Dodgers have seven players representing in
La Phillies are sending the most witheight. How many do the Giants have?
Three? Better than none? Ithink it's three pirates. Paul Sken's

(22:34):
going to start for the National Leagueand the Orioles Corbyn Burns will start for
the American League. All right,We've got a police chief apprentice happening in
Los Angeles. The searchs for thechief started when we found out that former
chief Michael Moore was going to stepdown back in February, and Dominic Choi

(22:56):
took over, but he said hedidn't want the job officially or didn't want
the job permanently. So Moore hasstayed on as a consultant in the search
for the next chief, and acouple of different reports have suggested that that
list is now down to about tennames. One of the big names is
former La County Sheriff Jim McDonald.Yeah, he, I guess was I

(23:19):
shouldn't say, I guess because Iknew him when he was an assistant chief
with the LPD, the sheriff. As you mentioned, his name has been
circulated around LPD headquarters in city Hallfor months as one of the possible candidates.
You can't. I mean, whenthe job opens up and you've got
somebody with that kind of experience inyour backyard, of course his name is

(23:40):
going to be on the list. The problem, or the thing I think
that they're going to shy away from, is the majority of people that are
on the list are people of color. The pool of contenders is generally more
diverse and generally less experience in therecent past, which means he is not

(24:03):
necessarily what you would say diversity is, and he's got a lot more experience
than a lot of the people onthis list. I loved covering Bill Bratton
and Jim McDonald. There were cops, they were cops, and they just
wanted to do the job, andhe could just do the job. I
have breaking sad news. We've talked. I don't think so Okay, we've

(24:29):
talked about how everybody is widely pannedthe national anthem at the home run Derby,
sung by Ingrid Andres. She nowis apologized and said she was drunk.
She says she's checking herself into afacility today to get the help she
needs. She said that was notme last night. I apologize what Yeah,
I apologize to MLB all the fansin this country. I love so

(24:52):
much for that rendition. And itdoes sound she sounds like she's slurring her
way through it. She just had, Uh, what's the song that she
does with boy I'm going to getthis wishful drinking with Sam Hunt. Yes,
great song, but that's clearly whatit was. Well, that takes

(25:15):
a lot of the like the funhumor out of it. It does.
That's why I xnate on the songa But good for her. Good for
her. I mean that sucks thatit had to get to that low point,
but good for her that she wasin such a public fac I mean,
it would be one thing if shewas doing the national anthem for the

(25:36):
the Kodak Yeah bumblebees or something likethat. But it's funny because not a
lot of people had eyes on thehome run derby until that kind of surfaced
and exploded on social media, andagain everybody came together in America to agree
it was a horrific. Some peopleeven said it was worse than Roseanne Barr.

(25:56):
I don't agree with that. Well, Roseanne Barr was doing it.
It was disgusting. It sounded likeIngrid was trying. Yeah, that was
very sad. Before anybody, let'shear it again. Checks me on that.
By the way, it's not theKodak Bumblebees, it's the it's the
Tennessee Smokies play in Kodak. Doyou really want to hear it? I'm

(26:18):
kind of curious now because we didn'treally know what was going on. Okay,
Well, you know how you getwhen you have a couple pops and
you start singing. I have neverever tried to sing the national anthem either.
I would never attempt. But she'sgotten so oh my gosh, this

(26:41):
is that's heartbreaking. It is heartbreaking. It's bad. But good thing.
Good thing, she's getting help. That's good. Oh man, did I
just take something nice away from you? No, it's not even that it
was nice because I also felt badabout saying like, oh that was an
awful I know I felt about ittoo. Nobody, none of us could

(27:02):
do it now, none of uscould stand up there in front of that.
K could do it. Keanu's giftedand we're not. And that's clear.
But that sounds that's awful. That'suh well, I'll follow her anyway.
Now, I'm sad now that thatsucks. You Are you gonna?

(27:23):
Are you gonna recover? I feellike I feel like I have? Is
this ruining the world tour? You'vebeen listening to The Gary and Shannon Show.
