Speaker 2 (00:08):
Ah youth wasted on the young.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Look at you two kids taking it inn God, just
watching you at my back.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Kf I AM six forty Live everywhere on the iHeart
Radio app. Neil Savadri in for Gary and Shannon today. Howdy, howdy, howdy,
Thanks for hanging out. Gorgeous day, getting hot and get
that big heat wave coming in. It's starting to become
the norm that we hit triple digits. Gosh, what did
I hear in? Maybe Debra, you saw this come across

(00:39):
the wire or it's in there. It was gonna be
in the eighties at the beaches.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yes today, yep, yep, yup, Lady holy smoked. Yes, wow.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We live in a wonderful area. Too bad they tax
us too much. All right, So all that stuff going
on today, but I'm happy to be with you. We'll
get to what's happening. Time for what's happening? Alrighty six

(01:11):
Flags Magic Mountain implements a new chaperone policy. So they've
got their fright Fest coming up, and they have their
extreme Nights, and that has become a thing most theme
parks do. Disneyland has their version. It's not extreme, but
the Boogie Ookie Boogie Bash and do they still do
the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween. But they have things

(01:34):
going on at the parks, but everybody comes out and
does their thing. Universal does an amazing job. Magic Mountain,
of course, Not Scary Farm is always at the top
of the list, but as we've seen, we've had some
issues at Knott Sperry Farm, Magic Mountain and the like that.
Six Flags Magic Mountain is just saying, listen, you need

(01:58):
a chaperone. This is going to be for their fright
Fest Extreme Nights starting Saturday, September seventh is coming up
this Saturday. Children fifteen or younger have to be must
be accompanied by a chaperone. That chaperone has to be
at least twenty one years of age or older to

(02:18):
get in the park and stay there after four PM,
because that's when they start shifting things over to their
night festivities. The chaperone not only has to be twenty
one years of age, but has to show a valid
government issued photo ID date of birth at the interest
all that good stuff only the chaperone can accompany, or

(02:39):
this chaperone rather can only accompany ten kids or less,
and the park is really leaning on this. The chaperone
must be with their party during entry, remain inside the
park during the visit, and be available by phone throughout
the day. The interesting thing is if one of you know,

(03:01):
someone fifteen years or younger is found inside the park
without a chaperone or they can't prove their age, they'll
be tossed. So that's you know, that's pharills people. That
is pharills, and that is really happening. That's the truth.
City of Rancho Palas Verdes obviously dealing with a lot

(03:23):
with the shifting of the land and all the geological
issues they've had, you know, for decades, but in the
last twelve months, very intensely with the last rains we
had in twenty twenty three. So what are they doing well,
they're keeping the lines of communication open. The City of
Rancho's Palaes Verdes is now holding a special meeting tonight

(03:46):
starting at three pm. Their normal regular city council meeting
is slated for seven pm tonight, but they're at McTaggart Hall.
They're going to at three pm plans to discuss an
you know, and amend the state of emergency because of
these recent power shutoffs. And you have now one hundred

(04:08):
additional homes in the Seaview neighborhood. If you remember, you know,
a lot of this was happening in the Portuguese Bend,
but Seaview is now having issues. The difference about you know,
evacuation warnings the light the Seaview residents are not under
evacuation warnings. Why well, their sewage collection system is gravity

(04:33):
fed and it's operated maintained by La County Department of
Public Works, and it uses generators. That is not the
case for a Portuguese Bend, which is not using water
or any of those facilities right now, is my understanding.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
So a lot of frustration here.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
You've got residents that are concerned, of course, but a
lot of them are determined to stay. And I got
to tell you, I do not see a win in
sight yet. Don't know how they're going to have any
quick fix. People are, of course concerned about being taken
advantage of, either by looters but also vendors, plumbers, electricians,
people like this. And if anybody takes you know, advantage

(05:14):
of them. They need to be tossed into the pit
of hell. I mean, I'm told at this point that
the local law enforcement is heightening the focus there and
making sure that they have patrols, including I think helicopters
and maybe even drones to make sure that there's no

(05:35):
looting or anything going on.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
But what are you going to do?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
I mean, these are You're now going to be living
in a house that you legally shouldn't be living in
because of the fact that you don't have power, water,
gas and all these things. All right, you know, we'll
extend this a little bit when we come back. There's
also a story about the Chase Bank I want to
tell you about, and unfortuately a mountain lion that had

(06:01):
to be euthanized.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
When we come back.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
It is Neil Savandra in for Gary and Shannon today,
going through a little bit about what's happening.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Hey, everybody, Neil Savandra in for Gary and Shannon today.
How are you happy to fill in today and the
rest of the week. Marla Teez was with me yesterday
and I believe she'll be back tomorrow, but she was
under the weather today, so we are wishing and sending
good vibes her way for a quick bounce back. Gary
Shannon are out on vacation, I believe, but I'm always

(06:38):
happy to be with you.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
It's it is, It is an honor. I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
I kind of went into you know, the Transformers.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
There, kind of a creepy voice.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
No, but there, thanks, Deborah. No, I was referencing that
it has been it has been an honor, like optimist prime. Gee.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
It sounded a little creepy. Do you sound creepy? I do, Debbie. Yeah, yeah,
creep Oh thank you Weirdoh yeah, that's me. Don't treat
me like John. I have a heart. So does he? No,
he does it, He really does. I know he does.
He does. He's actually kind of quiet off the air.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yeah, it's like a like a Hulk thing or a
Doctor Jekyll and mister Hyde. He comes in here and
he's all angry, and then he gets it out and
he's probably.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
A peach to live with. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
He gets it all out here. We have to deal
with them in demode, and then he goes home and
he's like the.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Nicest guy over. Yeah, well, I don't know. We'd have
to ask his wife.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Yeah, he's with Deborah and he's like the other look
what I can do. And he's like standing on one Footbah, Deborah,
look what I can do.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
He's like, I don't think he can balance very well. Yeah, no,
I don't think he can can handle. Both have balance issues.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Any Who, back to what's happening a little behind the scenes,
as we tend to do on occasion, do a little
bit more about what's happening going on in our little
world here. This is one of those sad stories in
all the way around, no one wins on these stories,
but this park has had some issues. You remember there

(08:17):
was a shooting some time back where a father was
killed in front of his children. This is another one
of those sad stories. This is different because it's struck nature.
I mean, that's what you're going to come across out there.
Mountain Lion was euthanized after an attacked an injured five
year old boy Malibu Creek State Park. This past weekends.

(08:38):
You had a group of family from Woodland Hills and
several adult few children having a picnic. I mean that
sounds like a good time. It's a beautiful park. They're
sitting there at the Malibu Creek State Park and Sunday
just boom this mountain lion. I couldn't get that in

(09:04):
my head for some reason. The mountain lion came out
as kids were playing near the picnic table. Mountain lion
attacked the boy. At least one of the adults charged
the lion. The lion then released the boy. The lion
ran up a nearby tree, and they made the tough
decision to take the animal out and euthanize it, but

(09:25):
they feel that it's a threat to public safety at
this point. The five year old boy suffered significant injuries
and was airlifted to the north Ridge Hospital Medical Center
after the attack. He was released just yesterday. No other
injuries were reported, but airlifted. That's never good. That's always
a scary thing there, all right, This is something that

(09:48):
blew my mind. So there's this trend. It started on TikTok.
People stealing money from Chase ATMs. Yeah, and here's what
it is. It is writing a fake check to themselves
of large amounts. It put the money automatically, or appeared

(10:08):
to put the money in their bank and they could
take it out. They were calling it a glitch. Some
even said it was a hack. So these viral tiktoks.
I saw one photo of a line of people in
front of the Chase Bank atm and they thought that

(10:33):
they could get free money from these. It was just
a glitch, and there's some problem with it, and customers
were actually committing fraud is the thing.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
So it's been.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Taken care of, been fixed and all of that. But
to me, my first response are like, hey, here's a hack.
Write a fake check, put it in there. That's not
a hack. That is straight fraud. There's no easy ways
to get money. You work for money. Now, you may

(11:08):
have some skills that make it easier, but for the
love of Pete, you're getting money out of the machine.
It is not your money. It is stealing. I don't
care if you break it open. I don't care if
you talk sexy to it and it gives you money.
I don't care how you got it out. It's not
your money. Pretty plain, pretty simple. Metro's tap to exit

(11:28):
pilot program. Now, I was pretty skeptical about this, and
I was not quiet about that skepticism. When I talked
about this because I thought I thought it was a
stupid premise to begin with, and that is statistically, about
ninety percent of the people that commit a crime on
the Metro system did not have a tap card. They

(11:50):
didn't pay the fare. They basically were able to you know,
hop over or to get in.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
We've seen that all done.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
And I mocked this because to me, it was like, Okay,
so you're telling me that all the people that commit
crime and problems on the Metro are criminals.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Of course they're going to jump.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Over the rails and get in there illegally and not pay.
They're dregs, that's what they do. However, I wanted to
read this because maybe I'm wrong. I'd be happy to
be wrong in this case. This started, the pilot program
was at the North Hollywood B Line station, and now

(12:33):
it's expanded to all ten ends end of line stations.
Today at the beginning the the E line Downtown Santa
Monica station. So they're extending this and what it is
is that it won't let you out. You can't exit
the system without the tap card. That's what's going to

(12:54):
get you out. And they they being those who put
this into the taptechs a pilot program to work, are
saying in less than two months.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
And I'm going to take them at their word. I'll
let you yell at me right now. Okay, thank you.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
North Hollywood station pilot transformed behavior along with the fourteen
B line stations with reported crime and other issues like fights, graffiti,
drug use, that type of thing having dropped, so says
they by more than forty percent on the transit on
the Transit watch app, I haven't used that. I'm assuming

(13:33):
that's used by commuters and the like that complain or
whatever on there. So, according to an ongoing survey, don't
know who did this. North Hollywood writers, ninety one percent
said the pilot program made the station feel cleaner, and
eight eighty six percent said it made them feel safer.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Fingers crossed. Man.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
If that is working, I will salute whoever I need
to salute. But we shall see, all right, some true
crime when we return.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Happy Tuesday, Neil Savadra and for Gary and Shannon today.
Happy to be with you until one o'clock where we'll
hand everything over to John Cobelt. John Coblt show and
then Tim Conway and Moe and you know.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
How it goes here. So go know where all right?

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Do you have? Like a is there an opening for
true crime? There's an opening for everything. Man, the story
is true?

Speaker 3 (14:40):
Sounds true? No, it sounds made up. I don't know.
Gary and Shannon present True Crime.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
You know, I am a fan of the program. I'm
a fan of the station. I've been listening KFI long
before I ever came here to work as an inter
in nineteen ninety four, and so I listened to the
station a lot.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
And this is one of the things, like that is
their wheelhouse.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Like I love listening to true crime stories from Gary
and Shannon the way they get into it with their
journalistic minds, but also you know, Shannon's really like, oh
my gosh, can you believe this?

Speaker 3 (15:21):
And digging in.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
So it's weird to be doing this particular segment because
it's one of my favorite to listen to them do.
But there is some kind of Hollywood meets murder meets
special effects whatever, crazy ass stories. The first one is
Michael Bay is head headed up by Michael Bay and

(15:43):
will be a partnership with Investigation Discovery, And this is
called Born Evil, The Siller, The serial Killer, and the Savior,
but the like a psychopath crazy eyes here. If you're
not familiar with Michael Bay, he's a director massive films,

(16:04):
a blockbuster, action packed, big budget type films like the
bad Boy films, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor was his Transformer, the
trans I spoke about them earlier Transformers franchise. He is
all over the place with those known for big explosions
and you know, lots of cuts and.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Does not.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Hire actresses over the phone, if you know what I'm saying.
A lot of likes the pretty girls running around scantly
clad with explosions in the like. So now he's taking
all of that and we get to know Michael Bait
through the true crime lens and as a true crime documentarian.

(16:53):
So his debuting five part docuseries, Born Evil, The serial
Killer and Savior.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Started last night.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
And this is the first project that Michael Bay is
doing with the investigation Discovery, So there's going to be
more coming from him.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Yesterday.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
It's started at nine pm Eastern Time, True Crime Network,
and this centers on Hayden Clark. They refer to Hayden
Clark as the serial killer. You've never heard of, and
I would say, you're damn right, because I've never heard
from this fella either. Series kind of takes a deep

(17:35):
dive into the inner workings of this very dysfunctional, to
say the least in voltable, volatile family, the Clark family,
and they walks along Hayden's path of depravity. It gets
into this crazy, shocking confession he made to his cellmate.

(18:01):
You got investigators scrambling and on this search to solve
cold cases that they now believe are linked to him.
And you know that kind of thing has to be
exciting for somebody in law enforcement on the side of detection,
really trying to look and clear up these cold cases.

(18:24):
Our very owned Steve Gregory on his show Unsolved, heard
every Saturday night at seven, you know, he covers these
stories all the time. And one thing that I hear
being a fan and listening, is that there's this similar

(18:45):
tone in the detectives, a determination, a focus, a calling,
a duty to solve these things. You can't bring the
person back, and often some times that the person who
did it. You can't bring the victim back, and the
person who did it may be long gone too. But

(19:07):
for the families, for anyone who is left with the
burden of these things to give them the gift of
understanding or closure. And part of that is trying to
get in the minds of these wing nuts and to
figure out what they're all about. So this starts to
open up. These five episodes start to open up Clark

(19:34):
in a way where he is comfortable to talk with
Michael Bay. He's talking to him from prison obviously, series
of recorded phone conversations. You know, it's kind of a
typical documentary in that sense where you get access and
if you're the person that puts someone at ease or
makes them feel comfortable.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Maybe he's a Transformers fan and he's like, I'll tell
you explosive interviews with a key individuals, not witnesses, but
individuals including Hayden's brother Jeff Clark, former cellmate Jack Truett,
and Jack Truett drops some bombs too. He says that

(20:21):
Clark confessed his personal sins, all the heinous crimes to him,
and that Truet may have been wrapped up believing that
you know this long haired, bearded guy.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
To be Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Maybe this is what the guy, this is why this
guy did all this evil this Hayden Clark, because he
thought he was talking to God.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
You know.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
I once in a conversation with John Cobalt there was
some story and some crazy bastard was in the church
or something, and he goes, man, it seems to be
a you know, kind of a a repetitive thing that
we see. And I said, you know, not everybody in

(21:07):
the church is crazy, but everybody crazy seems to be
in the church, you know, like people flocked to I
don't know if it's the you know, the philosophies the
theology that ties to world views that make serial killers
jump into this, but it is something that does seem
to tie into it. And let's be honest, it isn't

(21:29):
the first time we've heard somebody think they were Jesus
Christ that had a nasty cult or killed a bunch
of people because of it. So they're calling this a
chilling portrait of one of the most terrifying serial killers
in recent decades. It's supposedly very intense, this show Born Evil,

(21:49):
and their belief on the positive side is that potentially
it's going to open the door to solving many cold
case murders, and that's what you know, that's what we
got to keep our our fingers crossed for. So yesterday's
installment was The Innocence. It's about a tiny child and
a young woman going missing years apart from each other, separately.

(22:10):
Clark linked to both disappearances. Three more editions will air
today and you watched it at seven.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
Pm, eight pm, and nine pm, and.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
The final episode will come on tomorrow, September fourth, at
seven pm Eastern Standard time. So you have to be
able to access the Investigation Discovery channel, and.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
They're with most cable subscriptions, but you know, if.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
You cut the cord or cut the cable if you will,
you may not have access. But very intimidating looking individual
with the crazy eyes and all of that.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
And we'll see what.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Comes out of that with that program and how they
normally sensationalized vision of Michael Bay with the low, arger
than life explosions and intense angles and vibrant colors, the
blue blue skies and the orange and red, red, red
explosions will go up against the documentary field.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
We shall see, all right, another crazy story about true
crime when we return, not a killer, but someone who
ties into that and is a serial liar.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
When we come back, you're listening.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
To Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM six forty.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Hey, everybody, Neil Savadra and for Gary and Shannon. Today,
you've got John Cobelt coming up moments from now with
the John Cobo Show. And that's Convene. I never knew
where they got the name for the show. That makes sense.
And then you've got Tim Conway's show, Conway Junior. And
then you've got Mo Kelly. So what I'm saying is
go no where, stick around right here. I'll be in

(24:01):
the rest of the week. Hopefully mar La Teas from
Fox eleven will be back in great shape tomorrow and
join us. We're sending her good vibes as she was
not feeling well today to join in the Frivolity not
g O doc document You could tell coming to the

(24:22):
end of four hours documentary.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
The name is called Killer Lies, So what a crazy
story for thirty years. There's this guy. I'm gonna go
with m He's he's one of them French Stefan maybe
or b O U R G O I N. Anybody

(24:48):
want to help Debro. You didn't do you didn't take French.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
I took espanol.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Ah, okay, well how do you say that in Spanish?

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Then? Uh so spell it out again?

Speaker 2 (24:58):
O you are g O I and bort Burn Borgin,
I don't know whatever. This guy he did this. He
was known in France as the leading expert on serial killers.
I mean over the time that he talked about things
that he did. He interviewed seventy seven murderers, including Charles Manson.

(25:21):
By the way, he trained at the FBI's base in Quantico, Virginia,
wrote over forty best selling books about various violent deaths,
and on French TV he was everywhere, true crime shows, everything,
the docuseries, documentaries, he was everywhere. Massive fascination this guy

(25:41):
had with homicide. Why he said it was personal. He
said his wife was murdered in nineteen seventy six and
that's what made him go down this path. However, the
reality was this guy was lying about just about everything.
He wasn't a serial killer or anything like that, but

(26:03):
a serial liar. He never spoke to Charles Manson, he
didn't interview more than seventy killers, somewhere around thirty. They
think that he actually talked with He never trained with
the FBI, and his wife Eileen wasn't murdered.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Why because she didn't exist.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
This person Eileena, turns out, was actually Susan Bickrest. She's
a woman that this guy met before she was murdered
in nineteen seventy five by a serial killer. So National
Geographic is diving into this in a new docu series

(26:44):
called Killer Lies Chasing the True Crime con Man. But
how crazy is that someone like that becomes an expert
and that he gets away for so long, for over
thirty years, lie after lie after lie. So this is
a three part series that is based on Lauren Collins

(27:10):
two thousand and twenty two New Yorker article The Unraveling
of an Expert on serial Killers.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
So something ends up tripping this.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
I mean, was it Abraham Lincoln who said, if if
you don't lie, you'll never have to remember anything or
something along those lines, because you always have to remember
your lies to be able to keep them up right.
Otherwise you'll step on yourself, or you know, things will
be out of sequence or what have you. So they're

(27:40):
going to break this down this. The series basically chronicles
a group of online sleuths. The group is called the
Fourth Eye, by the way, and they're responsible for his downfall.
They examined, like one, how this guy blew up for one,
and how we got this lucrative you know, true crime
industry was begging for this guy to step in and

(28:03):
give insights. Of course they're false, the vast majority of them,
but they forensically kind of went through archival footage, different
interviews and members of the Fourth Eye, and you know
this guy. They look through all these things and it's
like this exploration of well humanity, human nature and cultural psychology.

(28:30):
You know, what would make someone do this? How you
know what to what gain? If there wasn't truly a
serial murderer that killed his wife, if there wasn't any
of these things to trigger it, then what.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Was it that triggered this pattern of lies?

Speaker 2 (28:51):
I mean, trust me, there are con people all over
the planet that do it, usually for some simple gain
that they can get in and get out. One thing
they want to do is put themselves all over television
or give yourself a way, you know, a way to
be unraveled.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
You know, I joke with people all the time.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
You can do talk radio throughout the country and maybe
people care, Maybe people don't but you do you sit
behind this mic that you have very smart listeners that
are going to either kindly inform you or rip you
apart saying, hey, there, you know that's not true or
here's some new information or whatever. You have to be

(29:33):
if you're putting yourself out there, you have to do
the homework. And this guy's on TV and getting away
with it and none of it being.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
True.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
So this is going to be It was on net Geo,
but it's going to be streaming on Hulu coming up
this Friday, I believe. But what a crazy story and
and how you can get now of days this armchair
sleuth stuff. These online sleuths and detectives groups of smart

(30:07):
people that maybe you know, didn't get into detective work,
got it, you know, went down a totally different path
most of the time. Many of them are writers and
the like that are fascinated curious about these things and
continue to say something doesn't seem right and poke at it.
That is fascinating, and that they actually are solving or

(30:30):
unraveling some of these crimes where we might you know normally,
you know, roll your eyes if someone says, yeah, I'm
kind of I don't know an amateur detective. But they're
doing they're doing the real work. So killer lies chasing
