And the defense for Tennessee has been good this is like,
I just I don't know, like you either look at
last week and you just you kind of plant that
flag and you say, this is where we're going moving forward.
If you're a fan out there and you look at
the actors or you say that was an admiration and

that's just was one game where yeah, you beat the
Packers at home, or excuse me, the Cowboys at home.
But now you've got a team in there that like
really can exploit your greatest weakness, and that's your inability
to stop the run. So I just I think the
first off, I like the under in this game. But
I think if you look at the way these two
teams match up, Tannehill will do enough in the passing game.

He could scramble around a little bit too. And I
just I think you're gonna see a lot of Derrick
Henry Man. I think it's gonna be one of those games. Well,
because if you're Todd downing the o C and you're
Mike Rabel and you get together to go, all right,
so where can we get them? Oh so they give
up almost five yards to carry? Yeah, we're good here,
all right. So well we'll see out there and just
roll Derrick Henry out. I'd love to know what the

prop at a number of carries for Derrick Henry is tonight,
I figure that out. I'd love to know that for
a second second. But the only problem here I'm seeing
is what if they stop Derrick Henry. What if they
make it a one dimensional game? What if they're able?

to light up the secondary for the Titans, which I

a couple of scorers and they forced Tennessee to get

seen Derrick Henry not be able to get involved in

I just don't think that. I don't know. It's hard to.
It's hard to get into a rhythm of trust on

what not only Derrick Henry does personally, but what Tennessee
does on offense. Can I ask you question as a defender,
if you are a Packers defender and you know that
their game plan is we're gonna run Derrick Henry because
we think that you guys can't stop us, and say
the Packers still can't stop them, can say, like, what

is that like that's demoralizing. You know it's coming and
you can't do it. Damn thing about it. You gotta
say in the sense of that, there's a whole lot
to that, right, Like what is what is their offensive line? Like,
because generally speaking, it's usually the offensive line that is

to go up against Jerome Vettis, it was the offensive line.
When we had to go up against Emmett Smith, it
was their offensive line. Like, so it's always like, Okay,

I'm sitting there talking all this this cash. I'm like,
we get to the game, I'm ready to go. Like
there he is. He ain't even that tall, Like, dude,
ain't even that big. Like I didn't heard all these

stories about this dude, Like I'm about to blow the
son of a gun up, and not in those terms. Right,
I'm sitting there talking bad. We're get into the game
and they ran in sure enough. Larry Allen is pooling
and this one particular player, I'm on the edge. I'm
blitzing off of the edge, and I'm the spiller of

of the pooler. If there's a pooler, So if Larry Island, Pools.
I got Larry Allen. The play is underway in Larry
Allen Pools, and I'm like, here we go, here we go,
like here we go. I'm literally like like growling, barking,

and we hit Pom and Larry Island still running down
the field. Emmett Smith still running down the field. I'm
on my feet. We see it on film. This man
didn't hit me three hundred and sixty degrees in the air.

I landed in the exact same place that I hit
Larry Allen on the board. The moral of the story.
You could see a bear or a line walking in
the wild and say that bear doesn't look that bad.
That's like I saw that beer at my window. I'm
like that bear and that doesn't look at me and
doesn't look that bad. I could take this bear until

that beer acts like a bear, until that lion turns
into a lion, until you run into Larry Allen. If
you run into this this Tennessee offensive line, and they
give you the feeling that, oh, this is gonna be
a long night. It's cold, these these patches popping. I
don't know that I want to do this for four
quarters and then off of that, you have to hit

the battering ram and speed and size of of Derrick Henry.
Then it could be it could be a what would
could perceivably be a boring game. It could be a
boring game because they're gonna wear you down with Derrick Henry.
That's going to be the key. Can you knowing that
that's what they're going to do to limit what takes place?

Can you do it? And that's gonna be to me,
that's going to be the difference in the game. And
for tennessee, Ben Jones, the starting center is out. He's
got a concussion, so they do get uh maybe some
relief there, but dupri is out on defense, so that's
that's significant. Well, the big thing is Jeffrey Simmons is
back though he's been a monster in the interior, which

because I think the flip side of this, if you
look at we're gonna make a big deal about Christian
Watson's performance last week, right four catches three touchdowns over
a hundred yards. If you really break it down, though,
I mean it's a drop or too early, it's Aaron
Jones and that's how the yeah I means. So if
you look at what's gonna be Tennessee's game plan. It's like, yeah,

we're gonna shut you down, force you to do what
you did basically every other game leading up to Dallas.
Or you were trying to throw the football around a
bunch of times, and we'll see how that works out
for you. It's two pros. Oh god, I just I
think it's gonna be really interesting to see which team
can establish that the Russian attack. Peah, I can't wait.
Plus frigid. You know the fog is going to be
coming from the breath, you know when guys are out

there playing like where it's that time of year. Man,
you know that's grass. They're still right, You're still grass.
I think we're gonna be okay. Hopefully they don't complain

the battle Royale question? Right? Kind of? Yeah? I mean, like,
what's the difference then? Because it's like is it when
a fight or biggest badass? Like, like, what's the difference there?

That's a good question. I mean it's all inclusive, yeah,
because I don't like, I don't know if there's a
real difference, right, Like biggest bad asked me until win
the fight? Um? Outside of those two, and obviously both
those two played for an extended period in the league. Um,
Robert Salam Tomlin, Tomlin, Yeah, Tomlin, I feel I feel

like Tomlin is a good one. Salad is a good one.
Solids a big dude. I don't know, Brdy, if you've
done this, you've been around Salo, right, So yeah, yeah,
he's a big guy. I mean he's not he's hold on,

of the year Jeff Saturday as being another candidate. Jeff,
I mean bowls played in the league. He's a bigger guy. Yeah.
I think Mike McDaniel wins because he'd bring like some
sort of high tech weapon or so. He probably knows
kung fu or something like, you know, he knows some

type of martial art. Michae would definitely bring like the
foreign object, like maybe the soft or whatever. Now we're
getting the anchor man. It's basically what we're saying, yes,
and I would love to see it. Would love to
see it. Pay I would pay for admission to that
battle way. I don't know ques they said, Jeff, Jeff Saturday,

let me segway. And I'm gonna jump on this quick.
You know, since we're we're talking about coaches and and
all that stuff. What is what has been the reactions
and the feedback? I mean it's been mixed obviously in
some places, but what what have you gotten like closer
to the epicenter of everything taking place with him. It's funny, LeVar,

It's gotten kind of quiet, you know, the criticism last week,
and then they go and play the way that they
do and they respond the way that they do, and um,
I think that things have quieted down a little bit.
And um, you know, it's fascinating to me because we've
seen this happen in other sports, right, So like take
like the success of you know, guys like you know,
Aaron Boone and in baseball or Steve Kerr and basketball,
(19:51):
where those guys didn't have like a like normal trajectory
to becoming a head coach or a manager, you know,
and and see each that and then I think you
look at the success of some of the guys who
played in the league who are coaching now. You know,
Mike Rabels had a ton of success and he was
only an assistant coach in the league for four years.
Kevin O'Connell, I think his coach six or seven years
(20:13):
in the league. His you know, his rise was really
really fast. Both those guys played in the league. Um,
So you know, I think what's interesting about this thing
to me is I think, like last week, there's a
little job protectionism going on. And if you guys remember,
like there are a lot of people who are rooting
against Chip Kelly, right, And my theory on that's always
been and this is ten years ago, but my theory
(20:34):
on that was always that they're only thirty two of
those jobs, and the people who are in the club
don't want people outside the club opening the door for
more people to come in, you know. And so if
Chip had been like a roaring success in the NFL, well,
then those thirty two jobs, like they would have been
opened to a lot more people because owners would have
been looking through the college ranks for guys. And I
(20:56):
think Jeff Saturday in a certain way would open a
sim or door to X players, you know where maybe
an owner would consider an ex player more seriously without
coaching experience, um, you know, And I can kind of
I go back to a conversation I had with Mike
Fray but when he first got the Titans job, and
I asked him about how quickly he rose, and he
(21:20):
like looked at me funny and in the way only
he can right, like that sarcastic look on his face,
and he said, what, like my fourteen years playing doesn't count,
And I kind of thought about it, and I'm like,
that was really stupid of me to say, like he's
lacking experience. He played in the league for fourteen years.
So I just think it's interesting from that standpoint. And
(21:43):
I mean, maybe Jeff fall flat in his face and
it looks awful the next two months, But I think
this is a really really interesting experiment and that I
think we're gonna see, um, the value of playing experience
versus the value of coaching experience in real time. I'm
kind of fast that it. Just to know how it
all came about. I mean, do you have any insight
(22:03):
as to if this was a build up to it.
I mean, Dianner Lasky, who has talked a lot about
his conversation with Jeff Saturday. I'm not gonna go on
the tangent. I know he was allobbing to get a
raise the ESPN. I get it. I'm just saying it
sounds like maybe if, if what Dan saying is true,
that they basically walked into the season and Frank Reich
(22:24):
was already on the hot seat where anyone realized that
or not, and he was already looking at Jeff Saturday's
potentially taking that position. Is that the insight you have
on this, Yeah, And you know, Brady really goes back
to the Jacksonville game at the end of last year, um,
you know, where like I I know er it was
furious over the way last year ended, um, and you know,
(22:44):
he really pushed Wins out the door. And I don't
think it was the football people wasn't so much like
pushing once out, like I think that they were okay
with looking at that. It was that was pushing once
out without an answer, you know what I mean, Like
it was, well, we don't even have a plan on
what we're going to do a quarterback yet, and Ursy
was like, I don't care, get him out of here.
You know. It was the first sign to everybody in
(23:06):
the building that people weren't safe there, you know. And
so I think that that tension existed in the spring
and the summer was very real. First thing Frank Rank
addressed at a training camp in fact with the players
was the Jacksonville game. And it existed I think through
the benching of Matt Ryan and through the firing of
Marcus Brady, the offensive coordinator of the week before reich
(23:27):
Um was was fired. And then I think in the
background you saw these conversations that Erst was having with
Jeff Saturday and um, you know, he was around training
camp a bunch. From what I understand, he was talking
to her, say a lot, and there was a reunion it.
I think I mentioned this to you guys last week,
but Terry Glenn went into the Ring of Honor two
(23:48):
weeks ago and I heard Ersay met individually with a
lot of like the players from that era, the guys
who were in town, Edge Or and James Marvin Harrison, Um,
you know, Reggie Wayne was there. He's coaching to uh Saturday,
you know, Dwight Freney. So all those guys were in town,
and um, I think the wheels were really turning at
(24:09):
that point. Obviously we are where we are. I think
what's really interesting is is there more to this? If
Saturday holds onto the job, do more of those guys
come back in the building with you know the obvious
you know, the obvious question being whether or not Peyton
Manning ever returns to a role in the organization. So
so I sort of follow on this. Who benched Matt Ryan? Then?
(24:33):
So then Saturday takes the job, he hires him, and
he just comes in and says, you need to put
Matt Ryan back. I mean, I like so like my
understanding of it was er Say communicated to people in
the building that there was he wanted the revolving door
at quarterback to stop, right Like so obviously since Andrew
Luck retired and nobody could prepare for what happened with Luck.
(24:55):
But like going from Luck to Jacoby were set to
Philip Rivers to Carson, was now Matt Ryan, like he
wanted to stop the revolving door. And I know there
were people in the building who felt like er Say
wanted to see Sam Ellinger because he felt like there'll
be one of two results. Either Ellinger would wind up
and ellingers I don't know if he can play, but
(25:17):
Ellinger is really well liked in the building. So either
one or two things is gonna happen. Either he was
gonna be a revelation and they were gonna have something
to build on with the young quarterback, or they were
gonna sink to the bottom of the league and be
in position to take one um next year. So that
was sort of the thinking there, and then it looks
awful the first couple of weeks, and I think now
(25:39):
maybe Ersay's priority is shifted a little bit from like,
let's get in position to draft a quarterback too. I
want to get a very real look at Jeff Saturday
and see whether or not he's gonna be our coach
going forward. So I'm gonna empower him to do what
he wants. And I think Saturday got the practice during
the week and saw like my best quarterback is now Ryan,
(26:00):
There's no question about it. Albert Brier joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio. Do you feel like you are
vindicated because you've been preaching justin Fields coming out of
Ohio State, which is a school that you've been very
fond of here for some reason on this show throughout
the course of the last year. So, but do you
feel like you've been a little bit vindicated with the

way that justin Fields is played over the past three
or four weeks there for the Bears. Well, first of all,
First of all, Jonas, I uh, I when when you
got to ask about Ohio State, I'm just answering questions.
I got you. Yeah, I mean, since we're on the topic,
I mean, what do you do you think they're gonna
be twenty seven and a half points better than Maryland
this weekend. I don't know. We can start trap game,

a trap gime, could be a trap game. They can score, right,
Maryland can score. They got some good receivers, good little
running back, Roman Hemp, Rock, Kim Jerry. Yeah, they got
Jason Jones. You go taking them the points. I don't care.
We'll put it this way. Hey, who gave Michigan their

closest game this year? Maryland? So we're gonna get to
see a side by side now, right? Interesting, I guess,
I guess, yeah, you're both next to each other. Anyway,
I was asked to just I was a correct I
mean he could have he could have, honestly, Honestly, guys,

I think, like what we're seeing that like so to me,
like just what like knowing what I know about Justin
fields wildly athletic, really big arm. He does have natural
accuracy if he's playing confidently. He's tough, he's a good kid,
he's a good leader. So you had all these pieces.
But and Brady is better to talk about how hard
(27:49):
it is to bring all of that together than I am.
But I just I felt like when he was coming out.
You had a lot of like really good traits with him,
and the question was how you can bring the best
perform him it's out of him. And I just think
his first year things were so haywire around him, it
was hard to judge anything. Um. They kept flip flopping
with play calling, they kept um you know, they put
(28:12):
him in the lineup, they took him out of the lineup,
There's all this stuff. It was sort of like two
in Miami over to his first two years there. And
I think what ebra Flus has been able to do
is a stabilize the environment around him so he can
build a relationship with a singular play caller and luke
Zi and then be build an offense that works for him.
And you know, he isn't working in a way it
(28:34):
conventionally works for NFL quarterbacks. No um is playing this
way sustainable like the workload was sustainable. Probably not. But
I think what this is doing is this buys him
time to develop as a quarterback. And I Justin's got
a lot of great traits where I think like if
he can grow the way say Jalen Hurts grew in Philadelphia,

He's more talented than Jalen Hurts. So I just think
that that's sort of where you're at with Justin Fields
right now, is they're doing things to accommodate him there
and to highlight his talent, and they're getting a lot
out of him, and that's buying him time to grow
into the sort of quarterback he's gonna need to be
to have a sustainable career in the NFL. And I

just like, I look at who he is as like
a person and a kid and all the rest of it,
and I think you can bet on him at least
making progress. Not sure that he's going to get there
and become like a top five quarterback or anything like that,
but I think you can bet on him making progress.

season is. Is he being judged off of what takes

think he's been He's done everything he's needed to do

their offensive line went playing well, could be one of

like if you look at their defense, their thirty one

been awful. Like I don't know why in Cleveland everyone

makes a big deal about the quarterback spot. Your defense
stinks and you play in a division that has Baltimore
and Pittsburgh who every single year, with the exception maybe
this year with Pittsburgh's they're still trying to figure stuff out,
but usually every year are competing for the division. And
why because they've had a foundation on defense forever, forever,

and yet the Browns never want to acknowledge the fact
that your defense stinks and it has stunk. It's like
that's the one group every time someone calls me in
a Cleveland radio stage talking about the Browns, like, at
what point are we gonna talk about the defense? At
what point do we want to start actually bringing up
the fact that in order to win as a quarterback
in Cleveland, you have to be a superman because you

have to win shootouts. You have to your defense can't
get a stop up thirteen points against the Jets and
Joe Flacco at home with less than two minutes left,
Like you can't get a stop Like those scenarios play
out nowhere else, but Cleveland was games had been played
in that scenario if it hadn't been since two thousand, like, like,

that's the story of this This organization is somehow, some way,
they're blind to the fact that their roster is still
not intact. Even with Deshaun Watson playing well, it won't matter.
Jacoby Bricette has not let the world on fire, but
he hasn't had to because they have a rushing attack,
they have everything else. They've done enough offensively to give
themselves a chance at and people can go back to

this past. We can go we're about the Dolphins game. Yeah,

obvious that, yeah, their their offense played poorly, the old
line played poorly. Give the Dolphins a credit. They're a

save this team, their defense, stinks. It stinks. There's no
there's nothing at any quarterback or anyone could do for
that offense the way their defense is played, and that's
been for a long time now, I think the last
portion of this season, because look there and they've got

a couple of games until he comes back there at Buffalo.
Obviously they're gonna lose that game, and then they've got
Tampa Bay. I would assume they're going to lose that game.
And then you get the Buffalo. What was it? It It
dumps a bunch of snow and it and it's windy,
and it becomes dude, last time we had a game
like that, it was two thousand and eight. I think
it was eight. No, it wasn't even six three. It

was eight zero two. It was to Phil Dawston field
goals and his safety. That's how we got to I'll
put it this way, though. It was so bad you
could barely see the players from the sideline, like growing
up and like warming up before the game. We were
throwing passes and we're like what are we doing, Like

the receivers had a hard time seeing the ball out
of your hand to them from the middle of the field,
like if you're throwing out route, they could barely see
the ball coming from your hand. That's how much snow

slipping and sliding all over the place, like they didn't

even go to the game. A lot of end up
hunkering down at my house to watch it because they
were it was like the conditions the driver were so
bad Buffalo got stuck for two days. I leave in

on the talent, you know, Cleveland bible to win this game,
because you never know how how the conditions affect this game.
And if you were going to say you can have

the advantage of Cleveland the way they run the football.

You could see a bear or a line walking in
the wild and say that bear doesn't look that bad.

Then it could be it could be a what would
could perceivably be a boring game. It could be a
boring game because they're gonna wear you down with Derrick Henry.
That's going to be the key. Can you knowing that
that's what they're going to do to limit what takes place?

Can you do it? And that's gonna be to me,
that's going to be the difference in the game. And
for tennessee, Ben Jones, the starting center is out. He's
got a concussion, so they do get uh maybe some
relief there, but dupri is out on defense, so that's
that's significant. Well, the big thing is Jeffrey Simmons is
back though he's been a monster in the interior, which

because I think the flip side of this, if you
look at we're gonna make a big deal about Christian
Watson's performance last week, right four catches three touchdowns over
a hundred yards. If you really break it down, though,
I mean it's a drop or too early, it's Aaron
Jones and that's how the yeah I means. So if
you look at what's gonna be Tennessee's game plan. It's like, yeah,

we're gonna shut you down, force you to do what
you did basically every other game leading up to Dallas.
Or you were trying to throw the football around a
bunch of times, and we'll see how that works out
for you. It's two pros. Oh god, I just I
think it's gonna be really interesting to see which team
can establish that the Russian attack. Peah, I can't wait.
Plus frigid. You know the fog is going to be
coming from the breath, you know when guys are out

there playing like where it's that time of year. Man,
you know that's grass. They're still right, You're still grass.
I think we're gonna be okay. Hopefully they don't complain

the battle Royale question? Right? Kind of? Yeah? I mean, like,
what's the difference then? Because it's like is it when
a fight or biggest badass? Like, like, what's the difference there?

That's a good question. I mean it's all inclusive, yeah,
because I don't like, I don't know if there's a
real difference, right, Like biggest bad asked me until win
the fight? Um? Outside of those two, and obviously both
those two played for an extended period in the league. Um,
Robert Salam Tomlin, Tomlin, Yeah, Tomlin, I feel I feel
(16:54):
like Tomlin is a good one. Salad is a good one.
Solids a big dude. I don't know, Brdy, if you've
done this, you've been around Salo, right, So yeah, yeah,
he's a big guy. I mean he's not he's hold on,
hold on, He's not the big board dead Campbell. He's

We're not winning the battle Royal, and by the way,
I think we're I think I feel I feel like Doug.
I feel like Doug. Like Doug looks like he's been

each other out and then you hope you're in the end.
And also, I feel like we're forgetting the obvious coach

of the year Jeff Saturday as being another candidate. Jeff,
I mean bowls played in the league. He's a bigger guy. Yeah.
I think Mike McDaniel wins because he'd bring like some
sort of high tech weapon or so. He probably knows
kung fu or something like, you know, he knows some

type of martial art. Michae would definitely bring like the
foreign object, like maybe the soft or whatever. Now we're
getting the anchor man. It's basically what we're saying, yes,
and I would love to see it. Would love to
see it. Pay I would pay for admission to that
battle way. I don't know ques they said, Jeff, Jeff Saturday,
(19:06):
let me segway. And I'm gonna jump on this quick.
You know, since we're we're talking about coaches and and
all that stuff. What is what has been the reactions
and the feedback? I mean it's been mixed obviously in
some places, but what what have you gotten like closer
to the epicenter of everything taking place with him. It's funny, LeVar,
(19:27):
It's gotten kind of quiet, you know, the criticism last week,
and then they go and play the way that they
do and they respond the way that they do, and um,
I think that things have quieted down a little bit.
And um, you know, it's fascinating to me because we've
seen this happen in other sports, right, So like take
like the success of you know, guys like you know,
Aaron Boone and in baseball or Steve Kerr and basketball,
(19:51):
where those guys didn't have like a like normal trajectory
to becoming a head coach or a manager, you know,
and and see each that and then I think you
look at the success of some of the guys who
played in the league who are coaching now. You know,
Mike Rabels had a ton of success and he was
only an assistant coach in the league for four years.
Kevin O'Connell, I think his coach six or seven years
(20:13):
in the league. His you know, his rise was really
really fast. Both those guys played in the league. Um,
So you know, I think what's interesting about this thing
to me is I think, like last week, there's a
little job protectionism going on. And if you guys remember,
like there are a lot of people who are rooting
against Chip Kelly, right, And my theory on that's always
been and this is ten years ago, but my theory
(20:34):
on that was always that they're only thirty two of
those jobs, and the people who are in the club
don't want people outside the club opening the door for
more people to come in, you know. And so if
Chip had been like a roaring success in the NFL, well,
then those thirty two jobs, like they would have been
opened to a lot more people because owners would have
been looking through the college ranks for guys. And I
(20:56):
think Jeff Saturday in a certain way would open a
sim or door to X players, you know where maybe
an owner would consider an ex player more seriously without
coaching experience, um, you know, And I can kind of
I go back to a conversation I had with Mike
Fray but when he first got the Titans job, and
I asked him about how quickly he rose, and he
(21:20):
like looked at me funny and in the way only
he can right, like that sarcastic look on his face,
and he said, what, like my fourteen years playing doesn't count,
And I kind of thought about it, and I'm like,
that was really stupid of me to say, like he's
lacking experience. He played in the league for fourteen years.
So I just think it's interesting from that standpoint. And
(21:43):
I mean, maybe Jeff fall flat in his face and
it looks awful the next two months, But I think
this is a really really interesting experiment and that I
think we're gonna see, um, the value of playing experience
versus the value of coaching experience in real time. I'm
kind of fast that it. Just to know how it
all came about. I mean, do you have any insight
(22:03):
as to if this was a build up to it.
I mean, Dianner Lasky, who has talked a lot about
his conversation with Jeff Saturday. I'm not gonna go on
the tangent. I know he was allobbing to get a
raise the ESPN. I get it. I'm just saying it
sounds like maybe if, if what Dan saying is true,
that they basically walked into the season and Frank Reich
(22:24):
was already on the hot seat where anyone realized that
or not, and he was already looking at Jeff Saturday's
potentially taking that position. Is that the insight you have
on this, Yeah, And you know, Brady really goes back
to the Jacksonville game at the end of last year, um,
you know, where like I I know er it was
furious over the way last year ended, um, and you know,
(22:44):
he really pushed Wins out the door. And I don't
think it was the football people wasn't so much like
pushing once out, like I think that they were okay
with looking at that. It was that was pushing once
out without an answer, you know what I mean, Like
it was, well, we don't even have a plan on
what we're going to do a quarterback yet, and Ursy
was like, I don't care, get him out of here.
You know. It was the first sign to everybody in
(23:06):
the building that people weren't safe there, you know. And
so I think that that tension existed in the spring
and the summer was very real. First thing Frank Rank
addressed at a training camp in fact with the players
was the Jacksonville game. And it existed I think through
the benching of Matt Ryan and through the firing of
Marcus Brady, the offensive coordinator of the week before reich
(23:27):
Um was was fired. And then I think in the
background you saw these conversations that Erst was having with
Jeff Saturday and um, you know, he was around training
camp a bunch. From what I understand, he was talking
to her, say a lot, and there was a reunion it.
I think I mentioned this to you guys last week,
but Terry Glenn went into the Ring of Honor two
(23:48):
weeks ago and I heard Ersay met individually with a
lot of like the players from that era, the guys
who were in town, Edge Or and James Marvin Harrison, Um,
you know, Reggie Wayne was there. He's coaching to uh Saturday,
you know, Dwight Freney. So all those guys were in town,
and um, I think the wheels were really turning at
(24:09):
that point. Obviously we are where we are. I think
what's really interesting is is there more to this? If
Saturday holds onto the job, do more of those guys
come back in the building with you know the obvious
you know, the obvious question being whether or not Peyton
Manning ever returns to a role in the organization. So
so I sort of follow on this. Who benched Matt Ryan? Then?
(24:33):
So then Saturday takes the job, he hires him, and
he just comes in and says, you need to put
Matt Ryan back. I mean, I like so like my
understanding of it was er Say communicated to people in
the building that there was he wanted the revolving door
at quarterback to stop, right Like so obviously since Andrew
Luck retired and nobody could prepare for what happened with Luck.
(24:55):
But like going from Luck to Jacoby were set to
Philip Rivers to Carson, was now Matt Ryan, like he
wanted to stop the revolving door. And I know there
were people in the building who felt like er Say
wanted to see Sam Ellinger because he felt like there'll
be one of two results. Either Ellinger would wind up
and ellingers I don't know if he can play, but
(25:17):
Ellinger is really well liked in the building. So either
one or two things is gonna happen. Either he was
gonna be a revelation and they were gonna have something
to build on with the young quarterback, or they were
gonna sink to the bottom of the league and be
in position to take one um next year. So that
was sort of the thinking there, and then it looks
awful the first couple of weeks, and I think now
(25:39):
maybe Ersay's priority is shifted a little bit from like,
let's get in position to draft a quarterback too. I
want to get a very real look at Jeff Saturday
and see whether or not he's gonna be our coach
going forward. So I'm gonna empower him to do what
he wants. And I think Saturday got the practice during
the week and saw like my best quarterback is now Ryan,
(26:00):
There's no question about it. Albert Brier joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio. Do you feel like you are
vindicated because you've been preaching justin Fields coming out of
Ohio State, which is a school that you've been very
fond of here for some reason on this show throughout
the course of the last year. So, but do you
feel like you've been a little bit vindicated with the
(26:20):
way that justin Fields is played over the past three
or four weeks there for the Bears. Well, first of all,
First of all, Jonas, I uh, I when when you
got to ask about Ohio State, I'm just answering questions.
I got you. Yeah, I mean, since we're on the topic,
I mean, what do you do you think they're gonna
be twenty seven and a half points better than Maryland
this weekend. I don't know. We can start trap game,
(26:42):
a trap gime, could be a trap game. They can score, right,
Maryland can score. They got some good receivers, good little
running back, Roman Hemp, Rock, Kim Jerry. Yeah, they got
Jason Jones. You go taking them the points. I don't care.
We'll put it this way. Hey, who gave Michigan their
(27:03):
closest game this year? Maryland? So we're gonna get to
see a side by side now, right? Interesting, I guess,
I guess, yeah, you're both next to each other. Anyway,
I was asked to just I was a correct I
mean he could have he could have, honestly, Honestly, guys,
(27:27):
I think, like what we're seeing that like so to me,
like just what like knowing what I know about Justin
fields wildly athletic, really big arm. He does have natural
accuracy if he's playing confidently. He's tough, he's a good kid,
he's a good leader. So you had all these pieces.
But and Brady is better to talk about how hard
(27:49):
it is to bring all of that together than I am.
But I just I felt like when he was coming out.
You had a lot of like really good traits with him,
and the question was how you can bring the best
perform him it's out of him. And I just think
his first year things were so haywire around him, it
was hard to judge anything. Um. They kept flip flopping
with play calling, they kept um you know, they put
(28:12):
him in the lineup, they took him out of the lineup,
There's all this stuff. It was sort of like two
in Miami over to his first two years there. And
I think what ebra Flus has been able to do
is a stabilize the environment around him so he can
build a relationship with a singular play caller and luke
Zi and then be build an offense that works for him.
And you know, he isn't working in a way it
(28:34):
conventionally works for NFL quarterbacks. No um is playing this
way sustainable like the workload was sustainable. Probably not. But
I think what this is doing is this buys him
time to develop as a quarterback. And I Justin's got
a lot of great traits where I think like if
he can grow the way say Jalen Hurts grew in Philadelphia,
(28:56):
He's more talented than Jalen Hurts. So I just think
that that's sort of where you're at with Justin Fields
right now, is they're doing things to accommodate him there
and to highlight his talent, and they're getting a lot
out of him, and that's buying him time to grow
into the sort of quarterback he's gonna need to be
to have a sustainable career in the NFL. And I
(29:17):
just like, I look at who he is as like
a person and a kid and all the rest of it,
and I think you can bet on him at least
making progress. Not sure that he's going to get there
and become like a top five quarterback or anything like that,
but I think you can bet on him making progress.

but they have not asked him to throw the football
around like I. I I still think they have not had
to face that scenario. I know they will versus Ohio State.
I'd be shocked if they did. Versus Ohio State. I

look it looked cold there too. Hey, I didn't look
that cold. We come on, it wasn't that bad, Frady,
who is the guy? A J let somebody up on
the seat, that's right. I don't know some random Dallas
Cowboys fans in the crowd. I don't know a J
came out of that. So like just to compare right
to linebackers, LaVar came out milk the scene, you know,

did da some people up? In one case he stiffed arms.
Someone made his way onto the set like soaked it all.
The a J ran out of it like they were
playing at a game. Like I don't think rob Stone
was done. Say his name, he was already on the set.
He actually beat Reggie like Reggie had an issue with
his headset and Mike, he beat him out to the

spot and then he absolutely lit up some dude. He
was one of Dallas Cowboys jersey. It was great too
because he was like dressed like a strength coach, which
was which I mean, he was really had on like
black jeans and like a black sweatshirt. But that's like
typically what he wears. Yeah, well no, but no, but no,
but on the air, like on the air, I'm telling
if you go back and you watch it, it looks

like he's just wearing black sweats all the way down.

for three more weeks. It's either providing false hope or

you feel like you just have to get through the
next couple of weeks until he can be your starter.
You know, I, well, I think they're seasons over. They're not,
there's no doubt about that. I'm just saying, like, what's
the mindset for the next couple of weeks? And so
he can actually come back and start and play. Yeah,
it's just kind of like, Okay, we're just gonna roll
out what we've been rolling out. And then he comes

back week eleven or week twelve, whatever it is, and
and yeah, I just I don't know, if I'm a
Browns fan, I don't know how I feel about the
whole situation. Like, I actually kind of feel bad for
Jacoby Brissett because I think he's been putting bad situations
through the course of his career, and he's played, you know,
pretty well at times, but he's just in a tough
(33:39):
spot and now no fault of his now he's going
to be pulled from the starting lineup as soon as
Deshaun Watson's back, And it's just like, all right, go
back to the bench. We're gonna go ahead and reward
this guy is starting job. With all the other things
that go on off the field, you have to amount
of money that you paid him. I mean you, it's
not rewarding him. He has to play. You know. Now
(34:00):
they're there third, they're sitting at third in the a
f C. North Um when he comes back, do you
think that he let me ask you guys, this this
this is the better question, whatever the outcome of this
season is. Is he being judged off of what takes
(34:23):
place for the rest of this season or is is
it all intensive purposes? Is he going to be given
another year, a full year to show? This to me
is like preseason, you know, like these games aren't gonna
matter for their team this year. It's gonna be really
the build up for So get your reps, get used
to the players you're going to be If you want
(34:45):
me to be real, I think ja Kobe Per said Jones,
you just said he did an admiral, admirable job. I
think he's been He's done everything he's needed to do
to put them in a spot to Winnow he hasn't
played great. You know every week? Do you know this
this this is a top five offense. You know, it's
the top ten scoring offense. Like their offense is not
(35:05):
the issue. Nick choves a stud They have talent, Like
their offensive line went playing well, could be one of
the better groups, and the other awful last week versus Miami.
But that was like really the first bad, bad game,
and they did have a backup plan right guard. But
like if you look at their defense, their thirty one
and scoring there the bottom half in yards like they've
been awful. Like I don't know why in Cleveland everyone
(35:29):
makes a big deal about the quarterback spot. Your defense
stinks and you play in a division that has Baltimore
and Pittsburgh who every single year, with the exception maybe
this year with Pittsburgh's they're still trying to figure stuff out,
but usually every year are competing for the division. And
why because they've had a foundation on defense forever, forever,
(35:53):
and yet the Browns never want to acknowledge the fact
that your defense stinks and it has stunk. It's like
that's the one group every time someone calls me in
a Cleveland radio stage talking about the Browns, like, at
what point are we gonna talk about the defense? At
what point do we want to start actually bringing up
the fact that in order to win as a quarterback
in Cleveland, you have to be a superman because you
(36:16):
have to win shootouts. You have to your defense can't
get a stop up thirteen points against the Jets and
Joe Flacco at home with less than two minutes left,
Like you can't get a stop Like those scenarios play
out nowhere else, but Cleveland was games had been played
in that scenario if it hadn't been since two thousand, like, like,
(36:38):
that's the story of this This organization is somehow, some way,
they're blind to the fact that their roster is still
not intact. Even with Deshaun Watson playing well, it won't matter.
Jacoby Bricette has not let the world on fire, but
he hasn't had to because they have a rushing attack,
they have everything else. They've done enough offensively to give
themselves a chance at and people can go back to
(37:01):
this past. We can go we're about the Dolphins game. Yeah,
that's the that's the one that kind of is glaringly
obvious that, yeah, their their offense played poorly, the old
line played poorly. Give the Dolphins a credit. They're a
good football team. I get that. And and look, the
Browns have it out for him this week because they're
playing in Buffalo. The only difference is supposed to be
like maybe six ft of snow, so we'll see how
that plays an impact on the game. But I just
(37:22):
I'm so tired of hearing about, you know, whether it's
the quarterback position or everyone expecting to Shaun Watson to
save this team, their defense, stinks. It stinks. There's no
there's nothing at any quarterback or anyone could do for
that offense the way their defense is played, and that's
been for a long time now, I think the last
portion of this season, because look there and they've got
(37:43):
a couple of games until he comes back there at Buffalo.
Obviously they're gonna lose that game, and then they've got
Tampa Bay. I would assume they're going to lose that game.
And then you get the Buffalo. What was it? It It
dumps a bunch of snow and it and it's windy,
and it becomes dude, last time we had a game
like that, it was two thousand and eight. I think
it was eight. No, it wasn't even six three. It
(38:06):
was eight zero two. It was to Phil Dawston field
goals and his safety. That's how we got to I'll
put it this way, though. It was so bad you
could barely see the players from the sideline, like growing
up and like warming up before the game. We were
throwing passes and we're like what are we doing, Like
we're not gonna be able to throw in this Like
(38:28):
the receivers had a hard time seeing the ball out
of your hand to them from the middle of the field,
like if you're throwing out route, they could barely see
the ball coming from your hand. That's how much snow
there was. It was. I've never seen anything like that.
I had a bunch of family and everyone that came
up in town for it. People were like turfing people's yards,
slipping and sliding all over the place, like they didn't
(38:49):
even go to the game. A lot of end up
hunkering down at my house to watch it because they
were it was like the conditions the driver were so
bad Buffalo got stuck for two days. I leave in
Cleveland after that game, So I'm not I'm not throwing
on the talent, you know, Cleveland bible to win this game,
because you never know how how the conditions affect this game.
And if you were going to say you can have
(39:10):
a hard time throwing the football, who does that play
the advantage of Cleveland the way they run the football.
So we'll see if the weather plays a factor. I
could be making a lot about what it was like
eight oh seven of those. I want to look at
some box scores here because I'm seeing a six three game.
There's a six three game that was nine. That was
in Buffalo and oh nine that was a game where

d A went to for four team with a pick
and we won six to three. I've never now. It
was windy there and there were some drops, but Roscoe
Parish fumbled a punt. He botched a punt that led
us into the game winning field goal. But I've never
seen a game like that in my life. And I
was just like, Wow, we're gonna win this game at

six three and we've completed two passes and then an
the one to the other team. There it is, Yeah,
I'm looking at date zero. Dick Geron versus Romeo Cornell
was the coaching matchup. Yeah I remember him. Yeah, Uh
Cargo Bears coach yea and then uh we're like in
Trent Edwards was the quarterback in Buffalo thirteen of thirty

three Ford twenty four yards. Um Marshawn Marshawn Lynch was
a bill. He was still a bill. Yeah, one carries
for for eighty two yards. Fred Jackson was there. Yeah,
that was your backfield in Buffalo. I wasn't that I'm
saying that was there? Yeah, I know you. Derreck Anderson

was night of twenty four and then Jamal Lewis uh
and Jason Wright, who's now, what's it. What's his role
in Washington? Is he the GA the president? Yeah? Yeah
he was. He was on that Browns team back then.
Three carries, I mean three carries for eleven o seven

point the game. He got those carries. Yeah. Hey, Phil
Dawson to this day man legend that guy. That guy
could kick in a hurricane. It didn't matter, like he
would find ways of putting that ball through the upright too.
Bet he got disrespected by the organization, But that's another story.
I mean, I think they're just going to give away
his jersey to Deshaun Watson like that. Just here, take

that being said, as Kevin Stefanski's job safe next, I
think it is. I mean, people were asking me about
his play calling and all. That's why I did a
radio interview earlier this week and I was like, yeah,

it should be. I mean, think about the hand he
was dealt. I mean, with everything that's happened in the
past twelve months. I mean, the guy you traded for
and signed this contract. He's not even out there, so
how are you really judging him based on how this
season is gone? I mean, all things considered, I know
they've only won three games, but I mean they've been
pretty competitive for the most part, with the exception of
(42:05):
you know, they got pounded by New England, Like that
was a bad loss this past week. Obviously bad loss
coming out of the bye, but I also think you're
getting to that point of the season where there, I mean,
they gotta play Buffalo then Tampa like that's that's that's
a pretty tough stretch. And then you're at Houston and
you get you know, he's back. You know, Deshaun Watson's back,
So that he is back and he's going to get
(42:26):
his ass he's laying on his back. Yeah, I wonder
will he be able to make it through healthy if
he's not able to get the physical assistance in therapy
that's necessary and needed for him to maintain that at
the highest level. I think they make him do it,
like in the training room in front of everyone. Yeah,
just so like they're like all I do I mean,
(42:48):
if I'm Deshaun Watson, do you ever get a massage
therapy session ever? Again, like honestly, you know, if it's me,
I get a thorough gun and and call it a day. Yeah,
It's like it's like sending an alcoholic into a liquor
store to grab you something. It's a bad idea or yeah,

a bag of roll. Yeah that a bag of roll
of golds and you're fine. Not don't send an alcoholic.
And there was it? You who head dust on it? Yeah?
Had it burns to have ferns and fossils and uh

really good scent. It was the original scent old spice.
So there wasn't like any like that. Was that rich
one with the blue stick to blue stick? Is it
like a half life on that? I mean, does it
not smell as potent or as good as it normally?
Alcohol probably wears out, would assume, Yeah, yeah, because it's
not air locked? Is it? Was it air locked? I

don't know? Probably not? Yeah, I mean what was the
thought process there? Like liquor store I did, I hadn't.
There was no pharmacy I didn't. I didn't realize one
waiting on him. No, I didn't realize that I told
the bathroom and washed his arm pits and didn't realize
that didn't work for him. No, I didn't realize until
on the way into work that I forgot to put
(44:11):
on deodor. And I told I was working with every
day Jonah, what are you talking about? I wore deer.
That is where you put deodor in Okay, where you
gotta respect yourself. But I was in studio with Katino Mobile.
And if you know Katino, he's very He's all about
his fashion and he's all about his presentation. It's a
fashionable guy. And I told I was like a Tino,
(44:33):
I gotta run the liquor stories. Why are you drinking?
To him, It's like, no, I'm not drinking, and I
gotta get deodor And he goes, is that bad? It's
like it's going to get bad. And so I looked
out for him. Man, that's what a great partner does
you know? That is good? That's somebody jumped on him
(44:54):
to go for you and you guys grow oppolo him.
But I told him to go ahead, delete, delete yourself.
