So I was thinking about this. You know what's really

(01:39):
weird and we do this, and I'm guilty of this,
and you're guilty of it as a fan and just
media in general, everybody that kind of surrounds the world
of sports. You know, it's really weird that we do.
We almost eliminate somebody from a conversation by recapping their career,

(02:01):
and the first thing we do is, well, did they
win a championship?

Speaker 2 (02:05):
It's kind of weird.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Like we're having this discussion, like there's a lot of
nuance that goes into winning a championship. We were having
this discussion about Jalen Hurts, and look, Jalen Hurts may
or may not get back to a super Bowl. And
if he doesn't get back to a super Bowl, you know,
when they recap his career, they're gonna go, yeah, but
he never won the big one. I mean he was there,

(02:28):
he got to one, but never won a super Bowl.
And that completely eliminates the part of the discussion, which is, yeah,
but he was the best player on the field when
he was in one, and his defense couldn't get a
stop and there were some other shenanigans that were going on,
and maybe his defensive coordinator was, you know, potentially flirting

(02:48):
with the Arizona Cardinals during the during prep week and
all the other stuff. Like you just you recap somebody's career,
and if you go to did he ever win a championship?
You eliminate everybody from the conversation right away. He got
out of a little bit of nuance. It's like recap in
a movie. You imagine if you were asked to recap
a movie, like I just saw one of the best
movies I've ever seen in my life. They said, I'll

(03:09):
describe it to me, but make it quick. Okay, Well,
like this really smart guy goes to prison and because
he's accused of killing his wife. And then when he
gets there, he gets abused, he gets beat up a bunch,
but he teaches all the guards and the warden how
to do their taxes. And then when he escapes, he

(03:30):
uses like this little hammer and he crawls through a
wall and then ends up crawling through a tunnel of
crap to get to freedom. And then once he does
get free, he goes to this beach because he took
the warden's money. And then his friend from prison finds
him on this beach and they hug on the sand.
All right, yeah, maybe, yeah, maybe I'll check it out sometime.

(03:54):
It's like Shawshank Redemption. It's like one of the great
movies of all time. But if he just recapped it
like that and didn't add any nuance, and didn't add
any detail, and you just wanted to be quick about it,
you'd write up one of the great films of all time.
So I say all that to say this, Damian Lillard
is requested a trade from the Portland Trailblazers. Now, I'm

(04:16):
not sitting here trying to compare the Portland Trailblazer franchise
as the tunnel of crap that Andy Duffrain had to
crawl through to get to freedom. I'm not doing that.
If you're doing that and you're thinking that, that's on you.
I'm not doing that. I'm not going to be irresponsible
and reckless and disrespectful to the fine folks of Portland
listening on Rip City Radio. I'm not going to do that.

(04:38):
If you're doing that, that's on you. But the point is,
why do you think Damian Lillard's doing this? Because he
wants to play for a winner, right like that, that's
the goal, wants to win a championship. Okay, So if
Damian Lillard goes to a place and there's teams that

(04:59):
are rumored at that are out there, there's teams that
are being discussed. If he goes to a place and
still comes up short, is he eliminated from any conversation
that involves all time greats or eliminated from any conversation
that involves the greatness of his career because he didn't
win a championship, or he tried. There's a lot of

(05:20):
stuff that's got to go your way. He tried, But
is any of that going to be kind of, you know,
baked into the discussion. Are we going to have any
like any of that at all? Because part of the
problem is so many of these players, I think, feel
the pressure of I've got to win a championship. That's
what's missing here. I've got to win a championship. Look

(05:42):
at Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant won two and still doesn't
get credit for it. Even to that still doesn't get credit.
Guy won two titles best player on the floor both
those championships. If he's healthy for the third, they probably
beat Toronto, and still doesn't get credit for it. And

(06:04):
all of that was because Kevin Durant wanted to win
a championship. He had been hearing his entire career. Dude,
you don't count unless you want a title. Your career
is not justified. You're not validated as an all time
great or one of the great players in the league
unless you want a championship. So he leaves a place

(06:25):
where he had been there his entire career. He goes
to the place that's gonna help him win that championship,
that he's got a win, or else his career is
not validated.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Does it twice?

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Still doesn't get credit for it, Like, it's weird that
we do that, that we just recap somebody's career and
sum up somebody's history just by talking about whether or
not they want a championship. It's odd and Damian Lillard

(06:58):
requesting a trade from the Portland trail Blas is all
about winning a championship. Now, he doesn't strike me as
the type of person that would let anybody impact his decision,
but that's what this decisions about. He's got to win
a title and there's no guarantees. Look, he could go
to someplace else in the NBA. There's no guarantees that

(07:21):
he's gonna win a championship, but he could go to
the Miami Look, Miami's one of the teams that are
being rumored. If we're gonna have a real conversation about
the Miami Heat, how do we know if Giannis isn't
banged up for the first series in the playoffs, how
do we know the Miami heater or advancing past Milwaukee.
It's not like they were favored, Like, how do we

(07:42):
know if Giannis doesn't suffer that back injury early? We
really think, like, you know, the Miami Heat's going to
cruise to a victory and it's gonna yeah, and they
got work done after that.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
But there's a lot of things that go into this.
You do need a lot of breaks.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I mean, Toronto finally won a championship, had been one
of the contenders in the NBA, finally won a title.
But again, if you want to add some nuance to
that title, you could talk about that Game seven against Philly,
the shot that kind of rattled around the toilet lid
and then went in for Kawhi Leonard. That's like a

(08:18):
bounce here, a quarter of an inch here, a fraction there.
Then they get to the finals, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant
both get hurt. Like if we're going to talk about it, like,
let's have add some nuance to the discussion, like that's
part of this. So again, Toronto finally won one, but
you need a lot of stuff to.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Go your way.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
And so when we have all these discussions about these
players and their legacies and how great they are, it's
just strange that we right off and eliminate people from
the get go if they don't have a championship, Like
if they don't have a title, no, no, no no.
Not looked at the same Matt Ryan with the Atlanta Falcons.

(09:01):
Matt Ryan was an MVP that year, Like you look
at his year, I mean, just phenomenal performance MVP. They
go to a Super Bowl, and if you were to
look back at Matt Ryan's career, not only do you
look at his career and you write him off as yeah,
but he never won a Super Bowl, but.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
You also add in but not only did he not want.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
A Super Bowl, it was one of the epic gad
jobs we've ever seen in sports.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
They had a twenty eight to three lead and they lost. Damn.
That's a bad look for Matt Ryan.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
What he didn't play defense, Like he wasn't responsible for
Juliet Edelman catching a ball that was scraping the turf
as it was falling to the ground, like the was it.
Like he didn't have any responsibility in overtime when the
Patriots won a coin toss and went down the field
and scored. That's not on him. But again, we look

(09:57):
back at careers and we want to sum it up.
The we want to say, ah, this is what it is. Yeah,
look good Damian Lillard. Look I mean, you know, if
he doesn't count, not part of the conversation. If he
doesn't win a championship. Okay, so now he's making a move.
Now he wants to go somewhere and win a championship.
What if he gets to a title and never wins one.
Charles Barkley got to a title, left Philly, went to Phoenix,

(10:20):
got to the NBA finals, never won one. To this day,
you can't go every other postgame show NBA on TNT
without shock bringing up the fact that Barkley never won
a title. It's just weird. Have we recap stuff? Well yeah,
I mean listen, he's you know, like a really smart guy.
But again, he teaches them all how to do their

(10:42):
taxes and he even talks in one of the guards
into letting his buddies have beer while they're redoing the
roof of the prison. Yeah, okay, I got other stuff
to watch, thank you, though. Yeah, I'm gonna watch trash
truck videos with my kid for another six hours. Maybe
I'll check that out sometime. Like, if you just recap
stuff quickly, you kind of miss out on a lot,

(11:03):
and I feel like we do that when a lot
with a lot of players and a lot of their legacies.
Jonas knocks here Two Pros and a Cup of Joe.

the NFL, and I'll tell you what that is next.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe, Fox Sports Radio.
Gionas knocks with you here coming up in we'll call
it a little over ten minutes from now from the
Tirack dot Com studios. Somebody in the NFL might have
ruined a really great secret, might have ruined it. The
league was ready for a big announcement, a big unveiling,
and somebody in the NFL might have ruined it. We'll

(12:19):
get into the details on that for you again coming
up in a little over ten minutes from now here,
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
So I saw this pop up.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk was making the case
because you know, everybody's really worried about this gambling fiasco
that is the NFL. Where the NFL decided, and like
the comparison I was making over the weekend was it
would be like bringing your baby straight from the hospital
to a frat house. Just like it's just an awful idea.

(12:50):
You know, you got to have stuff lined up and
set up when you bring your baby home, all right,
you don't have to step over your drunk buddy who's
got a thirty pack of cores light over his head.
Because you guys were playing you know, Soldiers and Game
of Thrones the night before. There's beer bogs and bar
fall over the place, Like you don't, like, that's not
an ideal setup for a child, So you wouldn't want

(13:11):
to bring that home. You'd want to be prepared. And
it feels like the NFL brought the baby home to
the frat house. They were like holding it with all
this love and joy. They were thrilled, they were happy
with all the revenue and stuff that was coming in
from gambling, and then they get they brought it into
the house and they realized, oh god, we're not ready
for this, and now they're scrambling. They're handing out suspensions.

(13:32):
Tom Brady's given tutorials, but like it's created this sort
of panic around the around the league and people covering
the league, and so Mike Floria was making the point
over the weekend saying, look, what's to stop even though
the NFL has now clearly stated, I mean it would
to help. They had this stuff out there before, but
now that they've clearly stated there are guidelines, there are rules.

(13:55):
There are restrictions to betting on the NFL. You can't
do it, can't do it in the team facility. You
can bet on other sports, but it's got to be
outside the team facility, like all the you bet on
college football in the team facility at six games, Like,
we've seen a couple of players get like now that
the NFL has identified all of this stuff, you've got

(14:15):
people around the league. And Mike Florio's point was, you know,
what's to stop a player from having like a family
member make wagers for him if he's gonna have insider information,
you know, if it's like Isaiah Rodgers of the Indianapolis Colts.
One of his prop bets he did, the thousand dollars
prop bet was on an over under on rushing yards

(14:37):
in a Colts game. Well, if you followed that story,
you notice that majority of those bets, as clearly indicated,
were like twenty five to fifty dollars. So the fact
that the biggest one was one thousand dollars and it
was an in game prop on a Colts running back
to have over one hundred rushing yards or under whatever

(14:59):
it was over under, I don't even know if it
was that he was betting on the over or the under,
but that that one hit, Yeah, it's a little bit
concerning because clearly he got aggressive because he knew what
the game plan was and so Florio's point was, what
is to stop players from just having a family member
or a friend do it. That person opens up an account,

(15:21):
The player's got nothing to do with the account, but
they're the one that facilitates the money, and they're the
ones that gives them the insider information on what the
game plan is from week to week. What's to stop
a player from doing that? It's like, okay, and he's
not the only one. Other people have thrown out these
what if scenarios true all that's possible. It's also possible.

(15:43):
They could wear a disguise and walk into a sports
book in Vegas and throw down some bets too. That's possible.
I mean, it's also possible. They could, you know, pay
some guy handing out the little pamphlets for the hookers
on the side of the road in Vegas to go.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Hey, buddy, you know, I don't know what you make here,
but here.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
A thousand bucks on Patrick Mahomes to complete his first
pass on Sunday's game.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Well, how do you know?

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Well, because I mean I play for the Raiders, like,
you know, I know what our secondary is. I'm like,
come buck, Yeah, it's easy money, dude. Ed if it
throws in my direction.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Don't worry.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
I'll pretend like I tweaked an ankle just so we
can get paid. But seriously, thousand bucks, you can keep
ten percent of it, no problem, Like all that's possible.
But the problem is, you're gonna drive yourself nuts if
you start thinking about the what ifs Okay, you're gonna

(16:44):
drive yourself nuts. It's a it's it's a losing battle
if you start thinking about the what ifs Now. I'm
not trying to say that I have personally dealt with this,
but I may have personally dealt with somebody who just
didn't trust to me as a human being. And I'm
not trying to say that. I know certain people in

(17:06):
my life who may be dealing with or have dealt with,
somebody who just doesn't trust them no matter what the
situation is. And that person who doesn't trust them usually
drives themselves nuts because they're thinking about what all the
possibilities are. If you tell them, hey, I'm gonna run
to the store, the fact that you're not bringing them

(17:30):
in their mind means what are you gonna stop off
and have a beer somewhere?

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Who you meeting there? Is it? Oh, it's a woman
working at the produce aisle, isn't it?

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Like?

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Look, all of these what if scenarios could pop up
in your mind every single day and you could drive
yourself insane. There's almost an insecurity to it. Hey, so
I'm I'm gonna go to the gym. Oh you never
go to the gym at this time? Yeah, I know,
I had doctor's appoint earlier. Huh okay, Well I want

(18:02):
to go uh okay, Uh, which machine you're gonna use?
I'm gonna use the elliptical? And they why the elliptical?
Why can't you use the one that's not facing anybody else?
That's the machine? I like, Okay, why can't you use
the bike? The bike isn't look it's like, dude, at
some point, you just got to trust the fact that
you're not with a scumbag.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
That's got to be your default.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
If you've got questions, if you're concerned, if trust is
really an issue, at some point, you've just got to
take a step back and.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Go to go to the base. What is your base?

Speaker 1 (18:38):
What's the fundamental knowledge that you have of the situation. Oh,
that person's not a scumbag. If they are a scumbag.
I mean, you get what you got coming to you.
I don't know what to tell you, all right, Like
I I'm not sure what to tell you. That's just it.
That's how this stuff works. So like in the NFL, yes,
gambling is new. Yes, players a bit and punished. Yes,

(19:02):
we realize it's a problem. You don't want players have
an inside information and handing out, you know, a bunch
of tips to other guys and next sea. But there's
a reason why you hire gambling services like US Integrity
I think is the name of one of them. And
Matt Holt is one of the guys who I think

(19:22):
runs US Integrity. He was on this show Straight out
of Vegas that we had on the network that I
was a part of for years, and that's his job
is to identify irregularities in sports betting. So there are
people looking into this stuff. But the issue of players

(19:44):
could hire somebody else to make a wager, or they
could hire somebody else to go into a sports book.
Are they gonna that's been around forever, Like if we're
gonna have a real conversation about it, you don't think
a player ever one time has called up a buddy
who was going to Vegas, and his buddy hit him
up and said, Hey, going to Vegas this weekend? What

(20:07):
do you think like one of his one of his
like a hole high school buddies, He's going to Vegas.
He's going to a bunch of pool parties, just gonna
get riprarn drunk calls up his buddy, who's known for
twenty five years playing in the NFL and says, hey, man,
what do you think going to Vegas?

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Should I put money on you? Guys?

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Nah? Man, were all banged up. We got an injury here,
injury there. Plus I mean with you know, with our
lack of depth, we're gonna have to run the ball
a lot, so we're going to try and really bleed
the clock and it's not going to be a high
scoring game. Also, I should probably bet on the under
of the game, right, Yeah, I mean I wouldn't count
on us scoring a bunch of points.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
That's insider information.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
But you don't think that's ever not happened, Like those
conversations have never happened before. Of course, that stuff has
always existed. Yes, there are threats out there, Yes there
are dangers out there. Yes, it's possible A lot a
lot of bad stuff could happen. All that's possible. Like, look,

(21:06):
I trust my wife with everything I've got.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
I mean, who knows she goes to a farmer's market
next thing.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
You know, there's some you know guy who's like, you know,
an actor on some soap opera and Colombia.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
He's like a twelve out of ten? How do I know?

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Stranger things have happened? Have you ever seen the movie Unfaithful?
That stuff happens from time to time, but at a
certain level, you just gotta trust you're not dealing with scumbags,
and if you are, they're going to show themselves eventually.
So the paranoia with sports betting and gambling in the NFL,
I get that it's new, but listen, the season's right

(21:54):
around the corner. If anything else pops up and somebody
gets busted for gambling, it gives us more content. And
that's all we really care about in this moment. That's
all we matters. That's all it matters to us, all right,
So everybody, just relax, it's all gonna be fine. Just
gamble your asses off and let's have a good time
for the Fourth of July weekend. Two pros and a
cup of joe here on Fox Sports Radio, by the way,

(22:15):
coming up in fifteen minutes from now here from these
tireq dot com studios. You talk about validation, all right.
I made a comment about something years ago here on
Fox Sports Radio, and Brady Quinn doubted me, doubted me,
didn't believe it, didn't buy it. And I have full

(22:38):
validation from a champion.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
All right.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
I feel vindicated, and we're going to have that discussion
here again coming up in about fifteen minutes from now
on Fox Sports Radio. So this is the usual suspect
when it comes to this, you know, like somebody just
got to shoot their mouth off and then like it's
it could be like harmless, just you know, harmless little.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
You know, spilling of the beans. Oh was I not
supposed to say that, you know?

Speaker 1 (23:05):
And and my point has always been there's a difference
between somebody who's got a big mouth and somebody who's
a rat. Like a rat is somebody you can't trust.
There's a negative connotation attached to It's why you call
him a rat. And then there's you know, somebody like
who's considered a canary. Yeah, they sing a lot, you know,
they talk it's just that that person pops up in

(23:26):
your life and you can probably think of exactly who
that is. So one of those people that does that
is Mark Murphy. You know, he's the uh you know
the Packers, their president, you know, he uh just seems
to pop up during the summertime. He does this like
Packers Tour where they go around like the state of
Wisconsin and they.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Meet with fans.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Like it's really like, you know, cool kind of setup.
And so Mark Murphy over the past couple of years
has had this thing where when the off season hits,
he'll just kind of throw out some stuff and you're like, wow,
I didn't expect that. Like you'll talk about Aaron Rodgers.
You know, a couple of years ago he was talking

(24:07):
about Rogers situation and not being happy about Jordan Love.
Earlier this offseason, Mark Murphy talked about, you know, if
we had our way, something along the lines of, you know,
if we had our way, you know, Aaron Rodgers would
be elsewhere, and yeah, you know Jordan Love, you know, like, yeah,
Roger's not back, but Jordan Love just moves on and
hopefully we'll have a great career and just kind of nonchalant,

(24:30):
matter of fact. It was like a Friday evening at
some like charity event, and the woman who was interviewing
him is almost like shaking her head, thinking is he
saying all this right now? And it's why a couple
of years ago we started doing this segment on the
show called Weekend at Murphy's because it seemed like every
weekend Mark Murphy would just pop off. And if you're

(24:54):
working in the coal mines of Sportstock Radio like I do,
on the weekend, still all right, you Mark Murphy during
the offseason because he gives you stuff. And Mark Murphy
was at it again this you know this offseason with
the Aaron Rodgers stuff. If we have our way, he's
going to be gone.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
But then he.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Also decided, you know what, I'm an equal opportunity guy.
If I'm going to air out some stuff, if I'm
going to let people know what's really going on behind
the scenes, not only am I going to have it
involve the Green Bay Packers, I'm going to have it
involve other teams. And not only will I have it
involve other teams, I'm going to have it involved the
league and an entire network.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
So Mark Murphy was writing.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
A monthly column this weekend on Packers dot Com and
he was talking about the show Hard Knocks. You know,
there's been some speculation like what are they going to do? Mean,
what's gonna happen with Hard Knocks is one of the
great events leading up to the season.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
What's going to happen?

Speaker 1 (25:54):
And Mark Murphy said the following quote, Hard Knocks is
a great show and gives fans an inside look a
team's training camp. It also provides good publicity for the team.
The downside is that it can be a distraction and
teams are concerned that other teams can learn information from
the show. All of that fine, all of that true,
No issue there. He then goes on to say, Mark Murphy,

(26:16):
the best thing to do if you don't want to
be on Hard Knocks is to make the playoffs every year.
The league in HBO can only require a team to
appear on Hard Knocks if they have failed to make
the playoffs two years in a row. Almost sounds like
a Magic Johnson tweet, like yeah, Mark, we get it.
And then he finishes off with this, I'm anxious to
see the Jets and the Minix Packers on Hard Knocks
this summer. It should be very entertaining. I didn't know

(26:39):
that information had been released. I didn't know the NFL
at HBO had announced that it was officially going to be
the Jets. This hu hum little weekend website article just
writing for Packers dot com.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Want to get closer with the fans.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
Here's my thoughts on hard knocks and I can't wait
to see the Jets and all the Packers that are
going to be on hard knocks.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
What what?

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Nobody has that information? That information is nowhere now. It's
been rumored. There's been some speculation, but I mean less
than a month ago you had Robert Salah come out
publicly and say, yeah, we're not interested in hard knocks,
not our thing. The Bears have said it, The Saints
don't want any part of it. The only team that
would be willing to do it of the four that

(27:25):
qualify are the Washington Commanders. But they've got this issue,
They've got to vote on a new owner and all
this other stuff, and you know, they just so there
was you know that there was some speculation maybe the
Lions would be brought back. You know, if the Lions decline,
I also would would think that, you know, if through
the NFL speaking of gambling, you know, I don't know

(27:47):
that I would maybe want to shine a spotlight on Hey, so,
why isn't Jamison Williams practicing or why isn't Jamison Williams
going to be there for the first six weeks of
the season. Oh, you know, getting is getting some ice
on his knee last year and just decided, you know
what kind of digging this this Penn State game. Hmm,

(28:14):
I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna bet on Penn
State to cover the second half. Yeah, you're not allowed
to do that in the team facility. What's a big deal? Nothing,
You'll miss six games? Okay, Like, if you're the NFL
and you've got a gambling issue, I don't know that
the Lions, who have had several people within the organization
get popped for gambling, would be the team you want
to showcase.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
But that was also thrown out there. But recently there was.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
Some thought that, okay, maybe the New York Jets would
just be forced to do it.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
But nobody has come out clearly and said that.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Nobody anywhere And Mark Murphy and in the latest edition
of Weekend of Murphy's decides to just you know, pop
up on social media, go up on the website and
just start you know, spewing away and say, yeah, look
forward to seeing all the Jets and many of the
former Packers players. Is featured on Hard Knocks this year.
The NFL, HBO nobody has said that, nobody's confirmed that

(29:07):
there's been no sneak pre sneak peek or preview of it.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Never been anywhere. But that's what's great about Mark Murphy.
He's not a rat, He's a canary. It's kind of harmless.
It just sings a lot. You know, He's not you know,
not you know diamond anybody out.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
I mean, you wouldn't trust him with anything, Like if
you had a gender reveal party, Mark Murphy would be
the guy that would shout out the color before poft.
Don't tell him a damn thing, all right, get ready
on the count of three, three two blue, it's a boy,
what the dude please. So moral of the story is

(29:46):
you probably can't trust Mark Murphy. But at least now
we do have some sort of an indication as to
what HBO and the NFL are planning. So if that
story comes out this week, because now the NFL and
HBO feel like, all right, now we got to make
the announcement because weekend at Murphy's up and shot his
mouth off again.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Now you know why.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Credit Mark Murphy, the original source of the Jets being
featured on Hard Knocks, Jonas Knox. Here, Two Pros and

our executive producer, Lead.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Lap.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
Good morning everybody. Good morning Jonas.

Speaker 6 (32:12):
And in case you missed this over the weekend, congratulations
are in order for the Birmingham Stallions winning the second
championship for the USFL, beating out the Pittsburgh Malers twenty
eight to twelve. Right, And in case you did miss that,
you might have missed mister Scooby Wright, also known as
Shark Dog on the field afterwards, rocking two forties and
shouting out, I'm Edward's forty's hands over here, just getting after.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
So so he was, uh, why were they drinking forties?
By the way, still trying to figure that out. I've
never seen a team celebrate with forties? And were they
OE forties? Were they old English?

Speaker 6 (32:48):
I wanted to say they because the label was turned.
I wanted to say they were maybe Miller mgd's, but
they could have been. Oh he's let me take a
second MGD forty ouncers. This is the important stuff here
as we break down the USFL champions That.

Speaker 5 (33:02):
Does go down a lot easier than the oees.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Yeah, sure, because the Old English was the was the
brand that Petros talked about as a child seeing the
big sign here in La and there was a big
sign where some guy was wearing dickies holding an Old
English forty ounce and for whatever, they're just drinking forties
on the field. Look, last time I saw, I am correct.

(33:25):
They are Miller Genuine drafts. Okay, so MGD forties. Yes,
So the last time I saw. For my brother's fortieth birthday,
he like, we surprised him with an entire like what
do they call those like ice buckets?

Speaker 2 (33:41):
But they're like the aluminum like the big ones.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
You bring them outside like they're not it's not like
a cooler because there's no lid on them. You just
throw them in there and then you throw a bunch
of beer on ice or sodas or whatever you're drinking.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
It's almost like a trough.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Yeah, Like so my brother got him, my other brother
got him for his fortieth birthday, a trough of forties
and we got sand blasted. It was just a problem
because you know, you're you're trying to you want to
get to you The whole point is you don't want
to drink it while it's warm, because the bottom of

(34:14):
a forty when it's warm or is nasty. But here's
where the validation comes in. So years ago I made
reference on the show working with Brady Quinn, and I said,
Edward forty hands. And he thought I was making that up,
like that's not a real thing, and I told him, no,
it's a real thing.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
He goes, what is Edward forty hands?

Speaker 1 (34:33):
Edward forty hands, By the way, don't try this at home,
or if you do, at least film it. Edward forty
hands is where you duct tape. You put forty ouncers
in the freezer until they're just about to freeze over,
and then you duck tape them to your hands and
you have to drink them. And you got to drink
them fast or else you're probably gonna get frostbite. And

(34:56):
so what ends up happening when you when you're pounding
two forties real fast is again, you know, you get
pretty buckled and uh, and it's kind of the whole
idea of you know, duct taping your hands to some
beer is kind of a and so it's called Edward
forty hands. And he thought I was making that up,
that that wasn't a real thing. And now we've got
a USFL champion on the field celebrating a title.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
Talking about Edward forty hands.

Speaker 6 (35:21):
He cheats by the way he pours the the forties
into his grill.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Oh so he didn't really pound him all the way.

Speaker 6 (35:27):
Well, you know, you only get so much time on
the field, But I think that's technically cheating.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
By the way. It is pretty great. And they're just
drinking forties.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Everybody else drinks champagne like people are popping champagne.

Speaker 5 (35:39):
Champigne of beers.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Yeah, they got where it sended like that is.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
That is pretty appropriate that they go instead of going champagne,
they go Champagne of beers on the field afterwards.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Good for them.

Speaker 6 (35:51):
You know what, you got one of the best Christmas
gifts ever got. My buddy Charlie got me at a
forty koozy with a strap on it.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Really Yeah they make those.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (36:01):
It was in the design of like, you know, a bandana,
the classic bandana that everybody buys, that you could buy
at the liquor store whatever it is. That was the
style of It was the coolest thing. And of course
I got buckled and lost it like a first time
and it comes with a strap. It comes with the
strap so you can hold on tight and you don't
freeze your hand.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Hey, that's one of the great things.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
And I remember in Vegas back in the day to
Paris Hotel, they used to have this giant Eiffel tower
like commemorative cup that you could walk around and drink
booze and like whatever. You would get it outside the
Paris Hotel and whatever concoction you could come up with
long Islands, margarita like whatever it is, and they give
you this big giant Eiffel tower. But it comes with

(36:40):
like a guitar strap. So if you get tired of
walking around with this giant cup, you know that doubles
is the Eiffel Tower. You got this arm strap so
you can just like let it sit there like you're
in between sets.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
It's pretty fantastic.

Speaker 6 (36:53):
You ever rocked the bucket hat with the with the
beer strap with the straws.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
Now either, I like that's a bitmoch all right, then
what are we doing here? Like it's it's like it's
one thing to be an alcoholic, it's another thing to
be a geek, all right, Like I'm willing to.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Be one or the other.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
I'm not willing to do both simultaneously, and that feels
like that's where we go.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
What else we got?

Speaker 6 (37:12):
Leave Jonas In case you missed it, Ricky Fewler won
the Rocket Mortgage Classic over the weekend. The problem is
fans are really well ticked off because they couldn't quite
watch it. It went into a three player playoff with
Colin Marikawa and Adam had when, of course Ricky Feller won,
but because of inclement weather forcing tea times to be
moved up, fans were more likely to be catching a

(37:35):
tape delay on Golf Channel or the Rodeo Show on CBS.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
So where could they So it was only.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
On stream It was only on streaming services.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
See that's the problem.

Speaker 1 (37:44):
And I got my balls broken because I brought this
up months ago on the show, Like, goll what what
are you like some old man? You can't figure out technology.
It's not that I can't figure out technology, but let's
be serious here. It is kind of annoying and it's
kind of a pain in the ass when stuff go
to streaming or you got to go to an app
on a smart TV to try and find stuff. It

(38:04):
used to be you could just turn on the television,
you could just go man. Growing up, let me tell
you something, we never were able to find our remote.
And then when we did actually get a new remote,
we got this universal remote and we had to parrot
inside that shoot all the buttons off, so we could
never use the remote ever again because we couldn't actually
turn anything. So our dad would make us stand by

(38:26):
the channel and change it manually. And now, so, of
course I know how to figure out technology, but it
is kind of annoying and kind of a pain in
the ass when you've got to turn off the TV,
go to another outlet. It's got to be on HDMI one,
and then you got to find an app. If you
just went back to the good old days, none of
this would be an issue at all.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Terrible.
