Was this show the reason that Aaron Rodgers to Denver
is no longer happening. We're also going to get into
(00:21):
a discussion about Rouprier floats, why I have no idea
breakout quarterbacks for next year, a scandal in college football,
and the great Rob Parker stopped by all of that
coming up next year. I'll kick the coverage Jonas Knocks,
Brady Quinn and you right here on Fox Sports Radio.

appreciate you doing so. We're gonna take you all the
way up on hundreds of Fox Sports Radio affiliates until
nine am Eastern times, six o'clock Pacific, and we will
do so with the man himself, the one, the only,
Brady Quinn. Well, that was fun last night. I mean,
how how cool was that to see? And and look,
I know there's the course field effect. I'm not sure
(01:48):
if you watch. Before the home run derby started, they
started talking about just how how much further the ball carries.
We talked about it a little bit yesterday, just from
from my golf extravaganza that I was there really boots
on the ground reporting on the Aaron Rodgers situation in Denver.
But that was one hell of a show and you
had everything from like the feel good story to the
(02:10):
guy who's gonna whoop everyone's butt to the the favorites
who didn't even make it out of the first round.
It was as cool an event as I can recall
for the home run Derby in years. Uh. And by
the way, I didn't know how much I'd miss it
after not having it last year in to COVID having
it this year. Uh, it just it brought back great memories,
(02:31):
memories of doing that stuff back when you were a kid.
But also more than that, it was an entertaining as hell. Yeah,
I And I was trying to think why did this
one hit differently? And and maybe it was because it
was gone for a year, and so just to see
the Pact house, to see, you know, those guys putting
on a show. Because if you think about it, outside
of Otani, who was the big name like that that
(02:52):
was Gallo was the other favorite, and a lot of
people thought Joey Gallo was was gonna win it if
Otani didn't. And literally both it looked like they just
couldn't get really into a rhythm and started a crumble.
Maybe Otani it was a little bit more dramatic than
that than Gallo, But uh, those those two are the
favorites going anyway. But I mean as far as like
Big Mac. Back in the day, it would be so
(03:12):
Sa maguire, you had all these big, like future perennial
Hall of Fame guys, and I don't know that you
have that as of yet, where you have these marquee
name brand players. So part of me going into it
was like, you know, there's there's some young, up and
coming talent, but I don't know that I can wrap
my arms around a guy who's a household name. And
then to see it the way it played out was fantastic.
(03:33):
I loved it. Now, are you saying that because one
of the guys need a translator? So? Is that? Is that?
Is that what? Someone was really bothered with the fact
that one of the best players in the game maybe
the closest thing to to Babe Ruth. And I know
that's not an original thought, but when you have to
lead off hitting in an All Star game and be
the starting pitcher, it's pretty cool, man. I don't care
(03:55):
if you need to translate it or not. Um, that's
pretty cool for baseball that puts on the map worldwide. Uh,
that is one of the things that you should be
cheering about, not making fun of. But that's just me
that's just there's just folks. I was waiting to see
who was going to go to the ribs first. There
he was for a round of applause, Brady Quinn getting
it done and getting it in early here at Fox
(04:17):
Sports Radio. Um, and look, I would like to sit
here and poke fun at a failed attempt during a
sporting event. But more about the USA basketball team later.
But say, okay, I will say I will say this
the last night, and I don't know if it was
the time away, I don't know if it was just
(04:39):
the corpse field. I'm not sure what it was. It
landed differently, and I gotta give credit to baseball. They
put on a damn show. It was a lot of
fun through and through. And if you're Otani and he
was the talk of this thing going into it, if
you're gonna lose early, you need to lose in dramatic fashion.
And that was phenomenal to watch out I played out.
(05:00):
I mean at least he put up a fight. He
seemed gassed by the way I mean looked trust me again,
was just out there. Felt the effect sometimes just well,
I really wasn't doing much exercise. I worked out a
couple of times but you feel it out there, I
mean just from playing out there, either going in as
an opponent or being there for two years. Um, you
could feel the effect of the altitude. And he looked gassed,
(05:23):
like you know, I think if you would have done
maybe the outs format, maybe it would have benefited him,
you know, maybe maybe he would have come on a
little bit stronger. It just seemed like most guys there
was there was two things they were dealing with. If
their swing wasn't one that was natural, for example, like
they weren't really a poll hitter, that obviously played a
(05:43):
factor in all of it, trying to change your swing
to adjust to the ballpark or the confines of the ballpark.
And then I gotta be honest, man, the picture, like
the picture in a home run derby, has just as
much to do with it. And they keep talking about
the batter getting into the rhythm. If the picture gets
into a rhythm and he continually feeds the ball in
the right spot, to me, that's that's what matters the most.
(06:06):
And I thought, how do you pronounce the how do
you pronounce Pete Alonzo's hoss yoss? I forget the jous
When he was serving those things up right where you
wanted him every time, to the where jouss as soon
as it left his hand, you knew that thing was
going to the upper deck, or I should say Pete
Alonzo knew it was going to upper deck. And but
(06:26):
by the way, all the pressures on the picture, all
of because you you have to be perfect. It's got
to be right there, because because of the clock and
and the time counting down, which I also think impacted
Otani because yeah, he looked worn out, um and and
it makes me wonder, moving forward, what's the second half
of that guy season gonna look like? Because, uh we
there have been examples in the past of players who
(06:48):
go to the home run derby and participate and then
they don't feel like they're quite the same afterwards, their
swings a little bit off, And I just wonder, what's
this going to do to Autani second half of the year.
Just look, you might want to fade him, Brady Quinn.
I'm just telling you, degenerate gambler out there, you might
want to fade him. Just saying I think tonight's gonna
be the indication, you know again leading off he's gonna
(07:10):
be the starting pitcher it's gonna be the indication of
what he's going to be. But um, like, for example,
not not not not to hammer on one guy because
Tony Beasley, Um, he's he's the third base coach for
the Rangers. He's got a he's a great story, he's
a cancer survive and all that. He's screwed Joey Callo.
He was so slow in between pitches. I'm watching it
(07:30):
with my wife. She looks at me and she's like,
why are you getting so upset by this? I said,
because he's one of the favorites and I want to
see what he's capable of doing. But it's literally he
was getting like a pitch maybe once every eight seconds
or ten seconds. I'm like, you just you can't compete
if you can't get in a rhythm that way. So
um anyway, and that that that was just one thing
that like watching it, I was like, man, this place
such a bigger factor. I almost wish they had a
(07:52):
pitching machine where it was consistent for every player because
otherwise it's it's so dependent on that that pitching coach
to just serve those things up. And I thought, obviously
Josh did the best job of any of them. Well,
And here's the thing. If I was if I was
one of those guys throwing and the batter was getting
frustrated with me because the ball wasn't in the right spot,
(08:13):
I just start going off speed. Like he's getting he's
getting he's getting cut bastballs, he's getting circle changes. I'd
gone gone off speed. That's the way. Did one of
them get pegged? I mean someone got hit by a pitch. Uh,
well I gotta comeback or no, or you mean one
of the batters. Yeah, yeah, I think Pete Alonso got
brushed off. Did he really? Yeah? I'm pretty sure he
(08:33):
got hit at one point. But he seems like he
really really enjoys winning the home run derby, like kind
of a little bit over the top, you know, kind
of with the celebrations, the belt wrapped, a little bit
over the top. I don't care, man, I love I
always think those sorts of personalities are great for baseball
because he's polarizing. You either love Pete Alonso or you
(08:56):
hate him. He's the Bryson D. Shambo of baseball. Like
he's got some of that to him. Look, he's not
my guy. I'm just saying very similar in that fashion.
People the love more hate him, maybe most hate, UM,
doesn't matter. He's polarizing. He's great for the sport. If
you could throw a ball sixty yards, how much further
can you throw it in Denver at altitude? UM? I
(09:17):
think ten is is about what we came up with
when we were there. Six yards for those of you
out there, yeah, yeah, so that was kind of doing
and yeah, thanks for that. But that was kind of
the the calculation most people come up with, and it's
like the standard I think for um, like golf, baseball,
(09:38):
if you're putting your kicking. Our kickers used to talk
about that, So we kind of looked at it the
same way as a as a quarterback, it's a little
bit different, but usually about ten percent. So if you're
a guy, you can throw the ball seventy yards, maybe
you can throw it seventy seven. Right, the further you
can throw it a little bit longer, it's gonna go.
But that was about how we factored that in and
clearly it was on display last night the harm run derby.
(10:00):
I just that was so much fun to watch. All Right,
I've got an either or question for you that I've
been thinking about. Okay, because one of the comps to
the home run Derby is the Slam Dunk Contest because
it's an individual skills competition, it's during the All Star break,
and so that's one of the I think the most
the most, I guess the best one to if you're
gonna do a comp of any sporting event, I think
(10:21):
the Slam Dunk Contest to the home run Derby makes
the most sense. So I gotta ask you this, Either
or you can dunk in an NBA game or hit
a home run? What do you want? Uh? No, No,
all home run home run? I was bingo. I totally agree,
and but let me be specific. It's got to be
(10:41):
a pull shot. Anything opposite field. I'm telling you anything
opposite field doesn't look as cool. Then when you're up
there and you pull the ball and you just yank
at four fifty, Like there's something about that. I was
watching last night, I thought, like, what what a feeling
to know you get it right when you hit it.
Peter lonso gotten that ri him in that groove last
night to where it was consecutive home run after consecutive
(11:04):
home run. If I had, if I had my choice,
I was thinking I'd rather hit a home run in
a game, but it's got to be a pull shot
than dunk of basketball. Okay, I personally feel like and
this is just me. The best part about it though,
is one anyone who's played baseball, they know how that feels,
and the ball comes off the bat and you know
it's gone right. There's something about that feeling. But then
(11:25):
it's also the jog around the basis, like you don't
really get to do that after you dunk, unless it
was like a last second dunk. You dunk, you're getting
your ass back there on defense. So it's a little
bit different too. I think you get a factor in
um just kind of like almost like the victory lap,
if you will, of a home run. Now home run
derby a little bit different. But obviously it just seems
(11:47):
like a bigger feet to like a man standing with
the bat and just absolutely smashing something four hundred some feet.
Something about it seems a little bit more difficult, a
little harder to do. And I also think depending on
on what your preferences, I mean, some people like to
just drop the bat, some people like to you know,
make a show of it. Some people like the bat flip,
(12:07):
you know, and my personally, my personal favorite was Dante
Bichette back in the day for the Colorado Rockies. Ironically enough,
um he used to swing and then like let go
of the bat as if it was on fire, like
he was holding onto a lit stick of dynamite and
just and just walk away from it. He had this
like real quick twitch sort of drop of the bat.
(12:27):
So Dante Bichette was my favorite. But yeah, it's got
to be a pull shot. But I'm going home run
in a Major League baseball game all day, all day,
and I'm not talking to wall scraper. I'm talking to bomb,
like like a couple of those bombs that were hit
last night. I'll take that over dunk in a basketball.
And look, you you probably feel that way because you
can dunk a basketball. Let me speak for the people
(12:48):
that are here listening to this program who can't dunk basketball's.
I want to hit a home run. I want to
hit a home run, Brady Quinn, That's how I feel
about things. You're the type of guy that lord the
hoops eight feet and then you went out You're like, oh,
this is what it feels like, this is what it
feels like to jump up, hang on the rim and
do all that, yet it's nothing. Listen, can you still
(13:10):
thank you? It makes me feel great, especially this early
in the morning. Is that is that you know? Uh,
when you can you still dunk a basketball? Still get
up there a little bit? Yes, I can still dunk.
I'm not sure if a team USA can though from
the most recent I mean, this is just you talk
about bookend shots to the liver from Brady Quinn here.
He is just going to the body early here on
(13:32):
Fox Sports Radio, which means it's going to be a doozy.
He is Brady Quinn, I'm Jonas Knocks. We're gonna take
you all the way up until nine am Eastern times,
six o'clock specific here on Fox Sports Radio. By the way,
our three Rob Parker is going to join us from Denver.
He is there for All Star festivities. He was at
the home run derby last night, and he was just
(13:53):
at Magic City like forty eight hours ago. And I
swear to God. So we're gonna get all sorts of
updates from Rob Parkers at a world tour that he's
been on currently. You know this, We're gonna be one
question I have to ask him. There's gonna be one question.
I'm not gonna say what it is now, you have
to wait till our three. There is one question that
might be completely off topic that I have to ask
him only because it's become a recurring theme on the show. Okay,
(14:16):
that that that makes a lot of sense in the world,
as we will get into all that here coming up
on Fox Sports Radio. But coming up next here on
fs are UM. I don't want to say that this
show jinxed it, but we might have ruined a golden
opportunity at a super Bowl for one team in the
a f C. We'll tell you who it is next
(14:36):
year on fs ARE this this is OutKick the Coverage.
He's Brady Quinn, I'm Jonas Knox. It's OutKick the Coverage
here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up a little over
ten minutes from now here on fs are UM, there
is a panic. We have got panic. We have got
um a coach who is not happy with being asked question.
(15:00):
Shan's following the panic, and we will get all of
that and have a little bit of fun here on
fs ARE at other people's expense. That's what we like
to do. This is how this works. Brady Quinn. It's
MLB All Star festivities. Uh, Denver. They put on a
show last night. And it's funny, you know we bring
up bring up Denver because we were having a conversation
yesterday here Brady Quinn, and we are going to discover
(15:22):
the other layer to that conversation right after we let
you know that. So you were in Denver, as we
mentioned boots on the ground coverage, Um, you were there
to uh get overly competitive in a golf tournament like
you you tend to do from time to time. And
and there was a big conversation about Aaron Rodgers and
the potential of Aaron Rodgers being a Denver Bronco. And
(15:45):
we had made mention of the fact that the gambling
odds indicated that Denver was still a real threat, because
if you looked at the gambling odds the Broncos, it
wasn't like they were a significant underdog. For at Aaron
Rodgers being this arter week one. Um, you know, they
were like, you know, a minus or plus one fifty,
(16:05):
like there was a real opportunity there. It seemed like
in the eyes of a lot of people in the
betting world. Um. And then I don't know if it
was our conversation yesterday. I don't know what what else
could have led to this, But but now the odds
have completely shifted in the Denver Broncos are now plus
three hundred and the Green Bay Packers have become more
of a favorite. Peyton Manning had some comments that he
(16:27):
was part of some Mlb'all Star festivities there in Denver,
uh and, and he alluded to the fact that, um,
he wants Aaron Rodgers to be in green Bay. Can't
fathom him being anywhere else. He also talked about, you know,
I think Denver is gonna go Withdrew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater.
And and at this point you kind of have to
know what your plan is at quarterback. So it feels
(16:49):
like there's some optimism on the Green Bay side that
Aaron Rodgers is going to return, and Peyton Manning pointing
out where we're at in the calendar as being part
of the reason why he feels like Teddy Bridgewater and
Drew Lock are gonna be the guys in Denver. I
think that's a fair statement. It's a fair argument. However,
we do know how fast things can change. We we
(17:12):
do know that, right, I mean I don't have to
go back any further than Carson Wentz's rookie year to
think about a time where you know, you had Sam
Bradford get shipped off to Minnesota because of the injury
to Teddy Bridgewater. I mean literally, one of the quarterbacks
in this conversation suffered a gruesome non contact injury that
(17:33):
led to you know, Bradford coming in there and then
being the starter, and it thrusted Carson Wentz we barely
saw as a rookie in there, and and Bradford obviously
went up to Minnesota. So we've seen some crazy things
happen at the beginning of a season like that, depending
on you know, where things get to. Now, that was
(17:54):
a little different because it was an injury. I think
this is gonna find more clarity because you know, in
the next three weeks two weeks, these teams reported camp
and Aaron Rodgers will have to show his cards at
that point. As far as what he wants to do,
I don't think that he would want to take off
training camp. I think he's had enough time off if
(18:17):
he's going to go back and play, He's gonna report
for training camp and he's gonna go in for what
probably is his last year. The question now is probably
closer to is he the players he is he? Is
he not? Because if he's not, then maybe they're still
willing to accept an offer from the Broncos, who I
think would make the best offer of any of those
(18:38):
teams that you could potentially bet on. Broncos, Raiders, Saints. Right,
Although I will say this, you know who was out
golfing this past weekend out at the American Century Championship.
I'm just saying, Sean Payton was out there. Sean Payton
was out there hanging out there their plus fourteen hundred.
I mean, at this point, you know, folks, maybe we
should just make some long shot bets if he's gonna
(19:00):
plan anywhere else. And I'm just saying, yeah, well, it's
it's funny. Aaron Rodgers. So yesterday we couldn't, you know,
actually identify the name of the golf tournament in Tahoe.
That was a big We had a big fun game
show here. We could not figure out the name of
the golf tournament in Tahoe. It was the American Century Championship,
as we later discovered in Tahoe, and Aaron Rodgers was
asked about his plan for the upcoming season. I'm gonna
(19:24):
enjoy the hell out of this week and then I'm
gonna get back to working out and figure things down
a couple of weeks. Alright, that solves it. There we go, folks,
clearing things up. Now we do want to see here,
well real quick, if anyone had any reservations about if
he's been in shape whatnot. Did you see the bomb
(19:44):
he threw off the T box onto a boat. Yes,
well look at me. Isn't that like they say in boxing,
last thing to go is your is your power on
a boxer? Like he's always going to be able to
throw the football? Right? I mean, I don't know, man.
I would say that's the exact opposite with quarterback play.
You think about Drew Brees, Everyone's getting on him, but
not be able to push the ball downfield. Peyton Manning.
(20:05):
People talked about that about that at the end of
his career. I would actually say, it's the exact opposite
of that. You're deep bass probably the thing that or
at least your power is probably the thing that goes
first it becomes People were saying that about Tom Brady
towards the end of his career in New England. Now
you know that it's proved to be wrong, but I
don't know. Maybe it's the cold weather who knows what
the draw conclusion to. But I would say it's the
(20:26):
exact exact opposite with quarterback point. Well listen, I mean,
look many when it comes to the quarterback stuff, just
leave it to me, all right. You don't get it.
You know you never played the game, man, you don't
get what we go through as a quarterback. Sorry. Are
you blaming us for the odds basically jumping or you
or you think it's paid Manning effect. I don't think it. Well,
I don't think it's Peyton Manning or I mean it
could be. Maybe some people look at it and go whoa,
(20:48):
you know Peyton Manning said it then, because I think
the odds changed after we had the discussion and before
Peyton Manning was interviewed. So I'm not like, I don't
I don't want to claim something that is in ours.
I just think that we might have had more in
an impact on the on the gambling market than then
maybe some people want to give us credit for. And
I did find it a little bit ironic that shortly
(21:09):
after we did a deep dive into the Aaron Rodgers
situation and the potential of him ending up in Denver
because we had boots on the ground with you there
in Colorado. All of a sudden, the odds jumped the
other way. So maybe we we sort of ruined it
for the Denver Broncos. And so the reason Bick Fangio
won't win a Super Bowl this year is because of
this show. And I feel bad. More well, I feel bad.
(21:31):
I'm not gonna take all the credit for ruining this,
but uh yeah, we probably were to blame. Let's let's
be real. We were the first ones Monday morning to
talk about it, and the odds changed immediately after that. Look,
maybe we can have someone come on and talk about
it tomorrow. Maybe we can have some point with intimate
knowledge come on and talk about this. Maybe someone who
played with Aaron Rodgers at the American Century Championship. Maybe
(21:55):
someone who was a teammate of Aaron Rodgers. I don't know.
Maybe we could find someone like that to come on
with us tomorrow morning. I mean, maybe somebody who's a
brother in law of a a person on this show,
and that person being Brady Quinn and that person we're
alluding to is one A J. Hawk, who you have
said he is planning on joining us tomorrow here on
Fox Sports Radio. A J. Hawk is gonna pop on
(22:16):
the show, and I want to know how direct I
can be about asking him about Aaron Rodgers. That's what
I want to know, Like, like, what what sort of
answers are you gonna give? I have no idea. What
I can tell you is this though, I'm not even
going there. First, I've got some family affairs that we've
got to air out on National Live Radio in regards
to my sister and absolutely throwing him under the bus
(22:36):
with a clip that she posted from that, I just
I'm gonna have a talk, like I've got to have
an intervention with my older sister for what she did
to my brother in law. And and you know, usually
you'd say like blood stick and then not in this case. Okay,
I felt like what she did was wrong. I'm not
sure why she did that. I know she had the
kids out there, she had a lot on her hands,
but there had to have been some great shots she
(22:58):
could have filmed. He's he's drained like a seventy five
ft put and she couldn't get that on camera, she
could post a video clip of that. So I'm a
little disappointed to my my older sister right now. Alright, So,
so I have identified something here if you wanted to
know whether or not where the switch came for Brady
Quinn in his career, like where the where the switch
came from one element of Brady Quinn to other elements
(23:23):
of Brady Quinn, and what his real interest and priority
is in his world. Right now, I have got the
proof of that that I want to get to next
here on Fox Sports Radio. It is OutKick the coverage
here n fs are but for all the latest from
around the world of sports ladies and gentlemen. This man
hits bombs himself, the one and only Eddie Garcia. Well,
thank you, Jonas. We will start with Major League Baseball,
(23:44):
of course, the All Star Game coming up later on today.
Last night, it was the annual Home Run Derby at
Corus Field and defending Champete Alonso of the Mets beat
out Trey Man Seni the Orioles in the final round
for his second consecutive home Run Derby title. He finished
with a total of seventy four home runs, second only
through Vladimir Guerre oh for the most in a single
home run derby. Now, going into the derby, the Angels
(24:04):
showy Otana was considered the favorite, but he was edged
out in the first round by Juan Soto of the Nationals. Otani, however,
we'll get another chance at the spotlight tonight as he's
been named the American League starting pitcher for the All
Star Game. He's also gonna bat leadoff for the American League.
Max Scherzer of the Nationals will start for the National
League Tokyo Olympics or twelve days away, and the US
men's basketball team with NBA starts like Kevin Durand and
(24:26):
Damian Lillard now oh and two in pre Olympic competition.
After a stunning loss over the weekend in Nigeria, the
US followed that up with a lost Monday in Las
Vegas to Australia to eighty three. A couple other notes,
the Chicago Blackhawks are trading future All of Fame defenseman
Duncan Keith to the Edmondson Oilers for defenseman Caleb Jones
and a draft pick. Keith helped Chicago win three Stanley
(24:46):
Cup titles and in the NBA Phoenix Sense assistant Willie
Green has emerged as the front runner for the New
Orleans Pelicans head coaching vagancy. Now back to Jonas Knox
and Brady Quinn in the outkicked the coverage today, Thank
you kick the coverage here Fox Sport trade you Jonas
knocks Brady Quinn here on fs Alright, is a a
very interesting discussion to have and either or discussion. We're
(25:07):
gonna get back into that coming up here on about
fifteen minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio. Um I
I identified where you, Brady Quinn have made the switch
from loyal family member to this show being more of
a priority than your family relationships. Okay, I didn't know
(25:29):
this because you know sometimes look, we all could use
a little more self awareness, you know, cr spots. You're
providing that for me right now, so please do tell.
So you want to have the discussion with a j
Hawk about why your sister threw him under the bus
and and showcased sort of the you know, the poor
(25:50):
play from the golf tournament in Tahoe, correct you, And
you want to ask him about that. I want to
ask if he confronted her about it, because I'm one
of those people who believe that confrontation it doesn't have
to be a bad thing. If you can find resolution
on the other side of confrontation, it's good. It's constructive.
(26:10):
You'll you'll move past it, you get better. So I'm
more curious about that. If he if he's addressed the
fact that he did hit some good shots out there
and the only one she posted was a bad one,
That's what I want to know. So here's what I
think is really fascinating about that, is that you could
easily have that conversation with him via text message, and
(26:32):
you're saving it for on the air. Look at you,
you savage sports talk radio host. That that you know what,
that brings a tear to my eye. That's how it's done.
That That is I'm telling you right now, if if
I ever found out my wife was having an affair,
please let it be on air. Please, for the love
of God, let it be on air. That's all I
want because if we're gonna do this, alright, I want
(26:55):
it all exposed. Okay, I want everything out there, and
I need all this stuff to play out for the audience, right.
That is what I'm thinking about. I'm thinking about the
people that tune into this show, the people right now
that they're driving into work that are busting their ass
to get into work on time, maybe go to work
a job they're not happy about doing, and they're driving
as slow as humanly possible because they want to just
(27:15):
milk and squeeze a little bit more out of their
ear pleasure from this show that they get every single weekday,
morning or whatever we're on the air, And if I
could provide them some of that, then I want to
be able to provide them some of that. And the
fact that you also feel the same way. You just
didn't put a name or a title to it, and
we just figured it out here on the radio. It
melts my heart. You, sir, have become a degenerate sports
(27:37):
talk radio host, and I'm so damn proud of you.
Good for you. I feel like I just put on
that belt, you know, I feel like I'm putting on
that putting on that radio belt. Um. You know, we
also know we also need to talk to about There's
there's multiple times in which he's hung out with Aaron
and he's been with erin whether it was that the
golf tournament this past weekend, whatever the hell the name
(27:59):
is or even the derby, even the derby from this
past year. Um, there was multiple opportunities. We didn't get
a chance to talk to him after that. So we're
gonna have to have to ask him about Aaron, but
we're also gonna have to ask him about to come
back to just just to see how much money was
made potentially on the derby with with the comeback race
that until he spoke about it two years ago, I've
(28:20):
never heard of that before in my life. Yeah, And
so here's what the comeback races and and this is
something that he sort of said in an interview with
us on the air, and I think he just assumed
that we knew what it was. And I was shocked
to find out this is a real thing. So for
the real degenerate flunkey gamblers at the horse track, I mean,
(28:40):
and listen, if you if you're if you're even more
of a degenerate flunkey gambler at a horse racing track,
uh than than just the normal crowd that's there that's
saying something. There's a there's a thing they do where
they bet to see after the race is over, which
horse makes it back in time like which one makes
it back first. I think that's like, so the horses
(29:03):
and the jockeys don't even know that they're part of
a bet. They don't even know there's a race going on,
and so you're betting on people that are oblivious to
the idea that there's also other money on the side
being bet on which which jockey and which horse are
going to come back to the gate afterwards or come
back off the track first. That that's insane. That's like,
(29:23):
that's like betting on whether which you know, which driver
is gonna get it you're gonna stop for a pit
change first, without them even knowing that they're part of
a bet here. And there's real cash being handed over
in these and these bets and a horse track, no idea.
And the best part about it is probably the reaction
with the fans, because you know, some are disappointed depending
off their horse Warner lost, and yet these guys who
(29:44):
are up standing up, cheering, rooting, acting like the race
is still going on, I mean, looking like complete degenerates.
Although I think in that case you're probably bet on
the jockey, right, You're probably and people people say that
mostly when you're bet you know, horse betting, you'd say, oh,
you bet the jockey, not horse. Maybe there's some instances
where that's not the case, but usually but the jockey,
(30:04):
and I think that holds true in this. But we'll
have to ask him. We'll have to ask him tomorrow
because I was one of the things that we didn't
get out of him. I know that Derby was a
while ago, but I'm still curious to see that there's
any stories from that. AJ has got a lot of
good stories to tell. Yeah, and so that we are
going to get into that with a Jayhawk coming up
tomorrow here, I think we do need to have this
discussion here. Um. I remember back being a kid, a
(30:28):
little kid, and the Dream Team came out, and I
remember it was so cool because you got to see
all these great players on the same team. We had
never seen it before. Little did we know that was
just gonna end up being the NBA moving forward years
and years from now, when when guys realized they couldn't
take the heat from the media they wanted to go
win championships, everybody would get off their back, so they
(30:49):
all team up together. Because it's basically the a AU
extension the NBA. Now. But uh, the Dream Team came
out and it was just phenomenal. You had all the
promotions for it. Remember there was serious boxes and fast
food chains and everybody had something Dream Team related. When
those guys went to Barcelona and they won the gold
medal in n and then all these years later, the
(31:13):
US just can't seem to win an exhibition game. It
is really something just to see the meltdown of USA
basketball and and the fact that this is really becoming
an issue when these are just exhibition games. I mean,
what's the level of concern we need to have for
USA basketball when it comes to these exhibition games? What
are we really talking about here? I mean, they haven't
(31:35):
lost back to that game since nineteen Yeah, but who's
keeping track, you know what. I'm just saying, like, that's
that's almost what thirty years it's it's it's a bit concerning.
It's a bit concerning for a number of reasons because
it's almost like they have zero pride in what they're
representing right now. No, No, I'm being serious when I
(31:56):
say this. Now, like our USA basketball team right now
isn't taking the same approach that previous teams have, Meaning
it doesn't matter where you are when you play who
you play were USA, and we dominate. That's what we do,
especially in this sport, in this arena. And they're not
(32:17):
taking on that same pride that previous teams have. I
don't give a crap. If it's an exhibition, you go
out there and you beat the breaks off your opponent.
To allow Nigeria to hit what twenty three's I mean
to shoot the way they did. Kevin Duran got absolutely
stuffed at the rim, which would have started a fight
(32:38):
on any pickup game on the playground the way why
you got stuffed? I mean, and then to lose to Australia.
And like, I I know there's NBA players playing on
those other teams as well. I get that, but you're
still talking about a team with Kevin Durant on it,
Draymond Green on it, uh, Dame Lillard. I mean, this
team's got their stacked. The NBA players are some of
(32:59):
the better NBA players. They should be able to come
together and dominate and and and look for all those
like you know, hardcore basketball guys. Oh, they need time
to adjust and jell. Really, what about all the previous
teams that did they have that issue of coming together
and then jelling this is about effort and or lack thereof,
(33:20):
and this is about taking pride to the jersey that
they're wearing, Like I'm sorry these guys aren't playing, realizing
that everything they do is going to be under a
microscope because they're representing our country. And if they don't
want to play because they're not prideful enough about the opportunity,
how great it is. And I know we're not to
the Olympics yet, we're we're not there yet, but you're
(33:42):
still representing everyone else out there in this country. That's
what bothers me about it. This wouldn't have happened in
the past the way it's having the past two games.
And Gregg Popovits obviously doesn't want to talk about it,
you know, And and well, by the way, what has
he done since Tim Duncan left. I'm just asking the
question because everyone put him on a pedestal. And then
it's like, well, well what's happened since then? That's kind
(34:03):
of interesting. Yeah, he know, he's a he's a red ass.
And and if and the act is tired for me,
like I'm just tired of it, Like I don't I
don't need the It's one thing if Nick Saban gets
frustrated and Nick Saban gets frustrated after Bill Belichick. Right,
But they've they've they've they've they've warranted that with the
success that they've had. It's been a long time since
(34:23):
Gregg Popovich has done anything like that, and I don't
know that he's ever really warranted it with that sort
of success when you put him the likes of a
Nick Saban and Bill Belichick. Yeah, and just to see
sort of his behavior in his comments, and we'll have
those throughout the course of the show, just you know,
getting frustrated and flustered with the media while he's sitting
up there on you know, at the podium with Dame
(34:46):
Lillard to his right. It's just the whole thing is weird.
But nonetheless, the USA basketball team will trying to get
things going and you listen, and there are options here.
I'm just letting people know you can't bet against him.
I mean that that is not allowed. It doesn't you know,
I mean a lot of people may go, whoa, you know,
what is that you know, damning to our country that
we would bet against our own country. No, if you
(35:06):
feel like these guys aren't putting in the effort. You
can still make some cash. I'm just saying there there
is some possibilities and some options out there for you.
Brady Quinton, Jonas Knocks is out Kick the Coverage here
on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next though, it is
the either or question when it comes to what would
you rather do? We will go around the room and
get the answers. That's next here, ufs are. This is
(35:29):
Outkicked the Coverage. Hey, I'm John Middlecoff and I host
the Three and Out Podcast. Do you like football? Do
you like the NFL? Do you like the NFL draft? Quarterbacks? Coaches? Well,
I talk about it all on the show. I used
to work for Andy Reid as a scout. Now I
(35:50):
give you my unfiltered and raw opinions on everything that
goes on the NFL. And you know we're talking college
football because of how important the draft is year round.
Listen to the Three and Out Podcast with me John
middlecomm on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast or
wherever you get your podcast. He's Brady Quinn, I'm Jonas Knocks.
It's OutKick the Coverage here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming
(36:12):
up top of next hour. A little over ten minutes
from now here on FS are Brady Quinn. When we
were tossing around some of our thoughts, some of our
pre show notes, gave me an NFL topic about quarterbacks.
All I did was simply reply with my pick, and
now you're changing the rules, all right? It was field's fair. No, no, no, no,
(36:37):
look radio formatics here, Okay. You you people want us
to disagree or have different opinions, and your response was
gonna be the same that I responded with, And I
was like, that was kind of a no brainer. Why
did I go with that? So I was trying to
before the show started, mix it up a little bit,
and now you're frustrated by it because I don't think
(36:57):
you have any other strong takes on any of the
other candidates. That's what I think. Well, you're correct, Yeah,
so you will hear a very shallow, limited take on
a quarterback topic that Brady Quinn toss that. But because
I really do think there's one answer. I think there's
one answer, but it's but it isn't obvious and an
easy answer. Okay, okay, alright, let's let's let's move forward
(37:21):
with the way you had proposed it then, because I
I think there's actually its answer is way more complicated
than you think. Okay, alright, well we will be getting
into that here coming up in about ten minutes um
now on Fox Sports Radio. Now. One of the things
we were talking about, the home run Derby just fantastic,
go through and through, great event last night at Coors Field. UM.
All those players put on a show, and it got
(37:42):
me to thinking, would you rather hit a home run
or would you rather dunk a basketball in a game?
Because I think the home run Derby is by far
and away better than the Slam Dunk Contest? Are you
in agreement with me there? I don't know what it is.
I just think it's I think it's a better event.
I think spectacles better. And this sounds like hedging, but
I feel like when Vince Quarter one the dunk contest,
there's been nothing that's been able to to compare it,
(38:04):
so it since So maybe the high point for the
dunk contest if it's Vince Carter, Like, that's cooler. That's
better for me personally, though, I think hitting bombs would
be way more fun. Yeah, I agree, I think Vince
Carter at its peak, even Dominique Wilkins who's my favorite
dunker of all time? I love Dominique Wilkins. I love
(38:26):
his style that that to the two feet jump planted
a windmill dunk that he used to do. Like Dominique
was my favorite dunker of all time. But I just
think it's an overall event. I will take the home
run derby. So I want to get the just I
want to go around the crew, Uh to the crew quickly?
Here on Fox Sports Radio, Justin Cooper, Roberto, Eddie Garcia, Eddie,
(38:47):
if you could do one thing, hit a home run
or dunk a basketball? Which way you going? Well? This
is interesting because I mean in my life, not certainly,
when I was a lot younger, you know, playing competed
teen sports, I've hit home runs. I even scored a
touchdown once. I've never dunked a ball, and I will
never dunk a ball. And yet I still think it's
the home run. I still think that. I mean, yeah,
(39:11):
like I believe I can fly like you don't need
to get up and just feel that's just such a
it's just such a like it's just so never ever
ever going to happen. You know, It's just I never
even dreamed of it because yeah, I never even dreamed
of that. But no hitting a home run. Uh that
was to go home run too. Yeah, it does feel attainable,
(39:34):
like it does feel like it's not that crazy of
a thought, even though it is, it doesn't feel like
it's that crazy of a thought. Um, all right, So Roberto,
if you could dunk a basketball or hit a home run?
Which way you going hit a home run? Baby? All
the way? And so does it have to be a
poll shot or can you go apo appo taco? Dude?
Hold on a second, see you'd rather go opposite field
(39:55):
than a poll shot? Yeah? Why because it's just better
go alright, I guess so Apo taco? All right, So
there's that, all right to Justin Cooper, Uh, you can
hit a home run or you can dunk a basketball. Um,
and you can do either of those while high Just
to give you a heads up, which one I would choose?
(40:19):
Dunk of basketball? Really? Yes, um, it's not it's not realistic.
That That's why if I could do either one of those,
that's why I would pick that. I've been I have
been short my entire life, and I just like that.
It's what I dreamed of to be able that I
would be so satisfied with my athletic accomplishments if I
could do that. But that being said, I think the
(40:40):
home run derby is better. Yeah, no, it's it's a
hell of a show. And listen. I know obviously you'd
being an Angel fan, I wanted to apologize to you
for the Otani situation last night. I'd be listen if
he's gonna go out. It was exciting, yeah, glory, Yeah,
that's fun. And also a Denver Bronco fan, I'd like
to also apologize for Brady Quinn and I ruining their
chances of getting a ron Yeah, sorry about that. You know,
(41:02):
I still have my fingers crossed. We'll see what happened. Yeah,
it's you know, it's a bummer. But but it's pretty
doubting out there, folks. I'll say that much to me.
He knows he's out there playing a lot. He sees
old John Elway, decent amounts. By the way, Dubb in Nashville,
dubb home run or dunk a basketball? Which way we're
feeling home? Yeah, no doubt, pull shot or opposite field
(41:23):
you're going Apo Taco dead center, Like there's I don't understand,
Like happy, how do people not see. It's so much
more aesthetically pleasing a poll shot. You just yanket to
one side of the field. It goes four sevent
