Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is the best of two pros and a couple
of Joe with Lamar airingten Rady Quinn and Joe Miss
Knocks on Fox Sports Radio. One of the more bizarre
situations For those you now tuning in on the Blowtorch
AM five seventy LA Sports, there were stations it's the
(00:22):
blowtorch am five seventy l A Sports. Uh, the high staff,
what's the blowtorch y five seventy l A Sports? The
big rig chase apparently that's still going on. A big
rig was going from freeway to freeway. It is now, well,
you gotta break the salt down right, explain to people
(00:44):
who aren't familiar with the four oh five ten. It
started into two ten, and then the two ten turned
into the one eighteen, and the one eighteen turned to
the to the twenty three, which is a thousand oaks
where the the the the hato five is some call it.
Then the twenty three turned into the one on one uh,
(01:05):
and then the one on one I believe turned into
where's yeah? Like the five Now the whole thing is
a mess. For those you listen to all the way
up to Seattle, San Diego, it goes from San Diego
to it does go to Seattle. Yeah, so seat Yeah,
so it's how about that? Yeah, look at you man,
he's a little uh, let's get at the Tijuana. Well, listen,
(01:29):
you get to Tijuana a lot of places in southern California.
You know what I mean, Roberto, you know what I mean.
That's that's Yeah, listen, talk after the show. But no,
it is not. It is not. But so yeah, there,
we're still trying to figure out why that semi is
(01:50):
still just parked on the freeway. Now there's a standoff,
so we'll keep you posting all that. The Aaron Rodgers situation,
many people are upset because they feel like the have
been misled by Aaron Rodgers. He tested positive for COVID
and based on the amount of time he's going to
be out, it would indicate that he's not vaccinated. So
of course they're upset because he said when he's asked
(02:12):
about it earlier this year, right before I think believe
in training camp or preseason, that he's been immunized. Yes,
which was a way of people thinking, oh, he got
the VATS, but he might have had it right or
he got some other treatment that. Look, I'm not going
to get into conspiracy theories, but there has been something
(02:33):
out there where there's a lot of high, big name
professional athletes who spending a lot of money on their
bodies a year, and they don't want to put some
generic vacs in their bodies like this is what the
explanation I got was, and that they are searching for
like their own methods of how to prepare their body
(02:56):
to fight off COVID. And so there's other things out
there that, again, these are high, high high net worth
individuals are finding that they're utilizing. And so maybe he
found something like that. I don't know, He's got a
lot of money, right maybe that was one of the
things he did so he felt like he was protected
against it. I'm not trying to speak for him, but
(03:18):
that is something that's out there. I'm talking about NBA players,
NFL players. There's a lot of that going on right now.
This was the Aaron Rodgers sound from August when he
was asked about it by the media. Are you vaccinated?
What your stance on vaccinations? Yeah, I've been any nice.
You know, there's a lot of a lot of conversation
around it around the league, and a lot of guys
(03:38):
who have made statements, and that made statements, owners who
made statements. You know, there's guys on the team that
haven't been vaccinated. I think it's a personal decision. I'm
not going to judge those guys. There's guys who've been
vaccinated contracted COVID. So it's it's an interesting issue that
I think we're going to see played out the entire season. Hey,
(03:58):
good and play with you if you notice something. Immunize
for him, but they vaccinated for others. Right. But the
other thing you have to understand is people took when
he said that that he was talking from the position
of what he said, I'm not going to judge them.
People took that is, oh, he's vaccinated. He's not going
(04:19):
to judge them for not being vaccinated. He's just not
judging them. She's not judging in general. And that was
more of the statement that like when you listen to it,
you hear it, you go oh no, no, no. That's
where the media got it wrong. See, the media is
trying to play teams, right, they're trying to take sides right,
they're trying to divide this country. They're trying to make
you pick one or the other. No, God forbid, God forbid,
(04:42):
you just be somewhere in the middle where you're like,
you know what, I can see both sides of it.
I don't want to pick one team or the other.
I'd like to support both. I'd like to not judge both.
God forbid we do that in this country anymore? Is
that possible? I feel that way about men and women,
you know what I mean. I want you all to
just enjoy one another, it doesn't matter, you know, and
(05:02):
play on the team you want to play on. You
know what I mean. Here's here's the part that I
Here's the part that I have the biggest issue with.
Is this guy. I'm just saying, here's the part that
that bothers me the most about this. If you're happy,
(05:23):
why should why should the media be asking these guys
if they're vaccinated or not? Why? Why is it there?
Why is it any of anybody's business whether or not.
Why should you have the right to be able to
ask some guy whether or not he's vaccinated. I think
Benjamin Watson said it yesterday where he said they should
have never been given this much access and given the
ability to ask this. So I will just put this
(05:44):
back on you guys, when does the NFL PA step
up and start saying, hey, this isn't the greatest idea
in the world, because I feel like they butchered this
from the beginning, and all of a sudden, everybody else
felt like they had the right to go ahead and
start asking these questions every time out. The irony is
the PA initially came out and said, well, we got
(06:05):
a problem on our hands, because the union, more often
than not, is really set up to protect the five
or ten percent who can't protect themselves. And in this case,
you know, the way the league and the PA went
about creating the rules to come back and play, they
created and that was more on behalf of those who
are vaccinated, meaning if you're not vaccinated, now, not only
(06:27):
is your team put in a position where you have
to change the way you eat, if to change the
way your team works out, you have to change the
way you meet. You have to change your protocols. If
someone becomes positive, like your entire team, if you don't
meet a certain threshold of vaccination status, your entire schedule
everything is thrown off and changed. And so because of
(06:50):
that agreement, you basically put players who don't want to
be vaccinated in a tough spot, even though the PA
has to represent and has to defend all players. That's
what they're that's what the union does, and they subjected
themselves to all of this by putting in place rules
(07:10):
that now allow us to basically say, well, Aaron Rodgers,
we know this, he tested positive for COVID. Okay, but
the Packers have already ruled him out for this week's game.
I could connect the dots here. He's not vaccinated then,
because if he was, he could then have two subsequent
negative tests and still if he was asymptomatic, go back
(07:33):
to play. The PA allowed this all to happen because
they didn't think far enough ahead of the potential cause
and effect of doing or this happening with the policies
they put in place. It's I'm gonna take it a
step back because I thought that was a great explanation.
So I'm gonna take it and I'm gonna simplify it
in these terms. How many times has a coach lie
(07:59):
to the media in an interview on a daily basis?
I mean, I do have time, right what I'm saying
put this in the proper perspective here, because we can
get all into the idea of what this is all
about in terms of the details of if Aaron Rodgers
said he did it or if he didn't do it,
(08:21):
and and the fact of the matter is he's positive.
Now we could get into the conversation of why do
people have to know or why why they don't have
to know. Everybody's going to have their opinion. You know
what is fact? You want a factual piece of information.
You are getting lied to consistently every day, Yeah, every day.
(08:46):
So now you want to stop, as the media, you
want to take a pause and say this lie in
particular is the one that truly offends me. Come on, people,
let's let's let's let's put it in perspective here, let's
rail it back in, right, let's rail it back in
just how many times? Like I used to listen to
(09:08):
when I was doing when I was in DC and
doing radio, and I used to listen to Mike Shanahan
do his interviews, I'd be like, why are we listening
to his interview? You have a better chance of coming
up with a proper conclusion by guessing. You can't guess,
and you'll have a better chance of knowing what the
truth is because he's not giving you s and I
(09:32):
think their media is all A lot of people are
pissed off because they feel like, oh, Aaron Rodgers, like no,
not really, he didn't. You just didn't catch on. So
that's that's on you. I'm sorry that you were the
guy at the end of Usual Suspects who realized, oh
my god, the dude with the limp does yeah, like,
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Like it just the whole thing is.
(09:54):
So you know, there's some people that still didn't note
that he turned hey, but they didn't realize that he
was Kaiser Soul say even at the end of the movie. Yeah,
I mean it want a great movie. Though, if you're
one of those people that didn't put it together, that
verbal kip was Kaiser, so say, let me tell you
right now, let me break it to you. It's Kaiser,
so safe. Where did that movie come out? I was like,
(10:18):
a couple of weeks ago. It's a couple of weeks ago, right,
I think it was a couple of weeks ago. Nineties,
it's gotta be Brady Quinn. Can I can talk about
movies from the eighties and nineties, but when I bring
it up I get need to not. I stay away
from nineties movie references purely because that's Jonas is round right.
Once he brings in usual suspects, we'll eventually get a
(10:39):
pulp fiction backdraft Jaws? What else did you have there? Okay?
The only the only blah, hold on, hold on, hold
on now, because because because when we get into moments
like they like I start to feel like really really
really nervous, and I'll be like, because it's like, he'll
flip you. He because flip because this is what happened,
because he'll flip you, flip you for real. Yeah, that's
a bit Benicia. By the way, the only reason for
(11:05):
the only, the only reason I ever brought up pulp
fiction is because Brady dresses the gim for Halloween. That
was the only reason. Is that even is it even
still legal to say the gimp? Like, yeah, can you
still say this? I don't know if you can say that. Man,
that's his name. Bro, Come on, man, you can't. I
don't think you could say that anymore. I don't think
if you look up as I am dB, it says
(11:27):
the gimp from pulp Okay legal at look look that
up at IMDb. Look up pulp fiction. I am dB,
and you tell me whether or not that's a slur, bro,
It's no, he's called the Gimp. Yes, thank you. That's
what they were for. I am dB. That's what they
call him. It doesn't matter. You can't say it. Well, point,
(11:49):
you cannot say the game, bro. I mean, there's a
plenty of movies that I don't know, like Blazing Saddles.
I'm not sure you're gonna be quoting a lot of
stuff from that either point, being, by the way, played
by Stephen Hibbert. Who the hell's that? That's the that's
the Gimp? Okay, very good. Yeah, but there's no name
for the Gimp. It just says the Kimp. I'm just mad. Well,
here's here's what we can tell you is that there's
(12:11):
a better chance of the Gimp starting for the Packers
a quarterback this weeknd than Aaron Rodgers, all right, which
should make a lot of people in the media very happy,
a lot of people very bitter because a little slight
of hand by Aaron Rodgers back in August. Man, after
that John Wick outfit unate. Yeah, that is unfortunate. Man.
Did you guys know that that's a fishing line. What
(12:32):
the gimp? Yeah, gimp is a fishing line made of silk.
No kid, Yeah, no kidding. So basically, basically people may
mistake the word for a slang term and meaning, but
it's a fishing term. But I think it's interesting because
you know the word. The one word that you really
(12:54):
can't use anymore is a cigarette in some places, a cigarette, right,
I think in Europe in Europe, right, but you can't
you like, they're so so what I'm saying is, even
though it's a slang term for it, you can't use it. Man. Yeah,
let me tell you something, even though you can use
it to catch, you know, And that is what's so amazing.
Catch fish and you can discover all sorts of things
(13:16):
that are point is a solid that was a discovery. Yeah,
that is a solid. Point There be sure to catch
Live editions of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe
with Brady Quinn, LaVar Errington, and Jonas Knox week days
at six am Eastern, three am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeart Radio app. Baker Mayfield, who was
(13:37):
thrown under the bus by Odell Beckham Senior UH and
UH and Odell Beckham Junior who is LaVar pointed out
as not spoken out and h you know, downplayed any
of these conversations. After he was told to stay home
from practice yesterday, Baker Mayfield spoke about the situation with
Odell Beckham the video his dad put out, and had
this to say yesterday, I thought we had a very
(13:59):
open line of com mucation going into it. So we'll see.
Like I said, more surprised U than anything, as everybody was.
So we'll see you going forward. And there's always room
for improvement in any relationship. We're not playing how we
should be. We want to be better. We want to
be better than five hundred. But that's that's where we're
at right now. So it's time to look in the
(14:19):
mirror and and handle those things internally because nothing on
the outside is going to help us. It's only going
to create drama. Do you forgive alf for this? Would
you accept an apology? Yeah? I think any sort of
conversation would go a long way. You know, who's charity?
Whose power washing? Get the back? What are the power
(14:40):
washing at the background there in Burrio, Ohio locker they
were renting and washing it? Oh Man credit to Baker Bayfield,
though because this is the same guy who when somebody
didn't shake his hand before kickoff against Kansas, he grabbed
his crotch and and you made a big scene. He
got who is the reporter? He got into it with
(15:02):
the Cleveland reporter the long time, and Tony Gross he
got into it. So was like Tony would ask, you know,
tough questions, and everyone knew that about Tony. He's a
good report. He does his job, and you know, you
had to handle a certain way, and Baker didn't. Doesn't
like criticism. A lot of people don't like criticism, right,
That's just how it works. The funny thing is more
(15:22):
of like, hey, Baker, if he apologized, would you accept it?
It's like what would be in high school now? Like
we are we really concerned about Like those two needed
to patch things up, Like let's just be real, you know,
they're both there for a job. It hasn't worked out
for either party. The team at this point probably feels
it's better to move on without O'Dell because he ultimately
(15:43):
became what everyone thought he might become and what he
was at the end of his career with the Giants,
and that was that was a distraction. Yeah, I mean,
whether it's a kicking net or whatever else the hell
was going on off the field. You know that hasn't
been so much to deal with with, you know, Cleveland,
but he also hasn't been on the field quite as
much to be the player I think they were hoping
(16:04):
he would he would be. No one could understand why
the New York Giants did what they did. They couldn't
understand it, and I gotta I'm a First of all,
let me first say I'm an O. B J fan,
Like I've met him before, super humble dude, super fun dude.
(16:24):
And I really was a fan of his game. I mean,
I'll pay attention to the Giants. I played for the Giants,
so you know, I've been a fan of O. B J.
The idea that he has become a distraction, I think
is kind of It was something that started to hit
after the start them and after the fame that he
(16:45):
achieved after that catch, And so you have to you
have to ultimately look at when the New York Giants
decided to move on from him, and there was all
of this intense speculation and debate and all those things.
You have to assume whether you like him for good
or forbet that. The conclusion here is that it is
(17:08):
a distraction to have someone like him on your team
and on your roster. It is we have not seen
him and Baker Mayfield on the same page, not one
time since he's been in Cleveland, not one time. We're
not having these conversations about Jarvis Landry exactly, We're not
(17:28):
having these conversations about any other player on that team.
There is one player that continues to be the topic
of conversation of not getting on the same page as
Baker Mayfield, and that's Odell Beckham. And one of the
things they asked O'Dell about, or asked Baker Mayfield about, was, well,
you know, Jarvis's, you know, Odell's closest friend. Has there
(17:48):
been any discussion, And Baker just said, listen, I'm not
staying I'm not getting involved in that. I don't want
to get between those two guys or whatever. And it
just made me think Jarvis Landry's figured it out. He
doesn't seem to mind playing in Cleveland. He was in Miami,
he was in a situation there and he went to
Cleveland and he's played really well. He's dealt with some
injuries this year, but he's always been a durable, reliable guy.
(18:10):
There's never really been any issues, Like even before the injuries,
remember the meltdowns he had against Josh Norman. Like there
was always a problem with Odell. There's always been a
passionate dude. I mean, I don't have a problem with
his passionate. I don't have a problem with his pain.
Let me ask you guys this, how many one hundred
yard games do you think he's had in Cleveland? He's
(18:31):
been there for three years now now he hasn't been
healthy or at least it wasn't last year and miss
some time this year, and you know, so has it
played quite as many games? How many a heart yard games?
Can we get some Brady Quinn game show music here? Please?
Something like Fitsmas style? Just what do we got here?
Something you know but don't make like nothing irishly? Okay? Yeah,
(18:52):
the Brothers game show? All right, So I will go first.
How many hundred yard games? No, I'm not he's no,
I'm not trust me. I'm looking at something else right now.
He certainly has the screen up on his on his computer.
But go all right, I snitched on him. We'll go.
(19:13):
But he's not looking down he's looking up two. I
think he's had two one hundred yard games looking up. No,
I sort of got a nine. I wasn't going to
give a number. I was just gonna say it belongs
on one hand yep, yep, uh yeah, Jonas is right
with two. All right, yeah, oh yeah, we're gonna go Jonas.
How about that? Now? How many would you guess he
had his final year in New York? Oh, geez, nine, eight, seven, six, one,
(19:41):
I'm gonna say I'm one. I'll say one. I'm gonna
say done. He had five, five games over one hundred yards.
I mean, he has not even come close to being
what the Browns hoped he would be during his time
in Cleveland. I mean, even even at the end of
his career the Giants when people were kind of writing
him off and whatever he's gonna be, he's been a
(20:03):
better player. I mean, it's it's astonishing to think about
the move they made for him and how I don't
know what the return is. I really don't know what
they've gotten in return for Peppers. Did they get him, yes, well,
amongst I think draft fixed. Yeah, but it's just well, listen,
if you got a if you went out and purchased
(20:25):
in O. B. J. Brown's jersey. Go ahead and throw
those up on eBay or wherever you can try and
get what you can for right now, because he's gone.
That is a rap. He will not play again for
the Cleveland Browns. You heard it here first. How's that
for a take? Put that in your hot take pipe
and smoke at Brady Quinn. He may play again, yeah,
but he may not listen. He may play again for
(20:46):
the Browns. This could be, you know, this could be
the one last come to Jesus moment that they give him.
I mean, Brady just mentioned the whole Oh no, I
don't know what it would be for for him to
come back and make it work or or to get
rid of him. I don't know what to think Jesus
is about, but I will say it's so random. I mean,
(21:12):
it was a come to Jesus moment. I get, I get,
I get where you went birth time. Like, here's the thing, right,
you're now in a place where you've never been before,
which is, you know, you're not the one that's being
looked at in favoritism over someone else. And sometimes that
is a very you have to have a very real moment,
(21:33):
and here's a very real moment you're not having. You're
being looked at as the problem, not as the solution.
You're being looked at as the one that has to
stay at home, not the one that should come in
and the other guy goes at home. Now, how many
other places would he be able to go where he's
going to get the grace and the benefit of the
doubt over other players in those locker rooms? Are there
(21:56):
any maybe Detroit, the CFL, maybe a different league. Yeah,
you know, you know what I mean. But they're his
He has very very limited offers, very limited opportunities. This
could be the best moment for him to just say
I'm just going to play Like I'm done talking like
(22:19):
you guys, Like Dad, like please don't don't do that again, Like,
just let me play this out, you know, Dad, Dad, Dad, dad?
Don't ye know right? Be sure to catch live editions
of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn,
LaVar Arrington, and Jonas Knox week days at six am
(22:40):
Eastern three am Pacific. Hey, what's up, everybody. It's me
three time pro bowler LeVar Arrington, and I couldn't be
more excited to announce a new podcast called Up on Game.
What is Up on Game? You asked, along with my
fellow pro bowler t J. Hushman, Zada and Super Bowl champion. Yep,
that's right, Plexico Birds. You can only name a show
(23:02):
with that type of talent on it. Up on Game
We're going to be sharing our real life experiences loaded
with teachable moments. Listen to Up on Game with me,
LeVar Arrington, t J. Hutchman's Out of and Plexico Birds
on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcast from Ladies and Gentleman. Albert Brier, I
(23:27):
mean you talk about a build up for an appearance, Albert,
we really put on our professional shoes for this, for
this show. Here to deliver the goods. The Great Albert
Brier with us here on Fox Sports Radio, senior NFL
reporter for the MMQB Ohio State Alum. Friend of the show, Albert,
(23:47):
what's happening, how's your Thursday? Well, you're talking about delivering goods.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna have to deliver LeVar
a T shirt or something, because we had a bet
last week that she hasn't been paid off. I don't know.
If you have you need one, you certainly have to
send it. Listen, I knew I was gonna have to
put the shirt on. I mean, we're one foot out
(24:10):
of bounds, one foot back end bounds from you having
to do it. But it's it's all good, man, it's
all good. I kind of figured I was gonna have
to do it. Beanie Wales at me to put a
poncho on and Ohio State poncho on, and the same
exact thing I did to that puncho, I'm going to
do to a T shirt if I had to do it,
and I'll post, I'll post it, and I'm gonna post
ripping it off once I'm done. King of Mammles, that's right,
(24:32):
I'm gonna rip that off. You know I'm too. I'm
to one versus Ohio State. I'm two on one versus
Ohio State. Me personally, I'm two on one versus Ohio State.
Doesn't even make a point, and you wouldn't. I was
gonna give you a point and you wouldn't take it. Yeah,
it's all right. I just can't believe we can't beat them. Man,
(24:55):
It's like, dang, it's like why can't we put James Franklin.
James Franklin is the master of muddying up that game
and making it ugly and uncomfortable. Was good and for
one reason or another, he's only been able to win
once and that one. Yeah, don't say lucky. We blocked
that field goal, don't you take and put luck in
(25:16):
our one time that we were triumphing against them. I
just think that's crazy, crazy man. Britt Pride did an
excellent job as well, too. They just genius. I love
watching that guy. Yeah, every every year, no matter how
good our offense is, like that dude has a way
of just making the game money. And and yeah, I
(25:41):
mean like, I don't know, how is that guy not
gotten the head coaching job somewhere? I don't know. I'm
glad he hasn't, though, unless get that Albert, Speaking of ugly,
things have gotten ugly in Cleveland. What the hell is
going on right now? Odell Beckham and all that. You know,
What's what's interesting about it, Brady, is like, you know,
haven't talked to a couple of coaches over the last
(26:02):
few days. They didn't see coming at all. And you know,
I once said to me He's like, I'm surprised, but
maybe I shouldn't be. He's been good in the building
for the most part. Now, I mean, are there are
questions about his production, whether he's lost this step as
competitive level, like there are those questions, but just as
far as like what sort of guy he's been, he's
been totally fine. And so you know, the post from
(26:27):
his dad and the post from Lebron James like all
of that, like I think from the perspective of the
Brown staff sort of just came out of nowhere. And
you know, Baker Mayfield, to my understanding with Blindside to
buy it too. So you know, I can tell you
that yesterday, you know, Wednesday morning. As you guys know,
(26:48):
it is sort of the set the table meeting when
coaches are dressing the players, and Kevin Stevanski basically his
message to the team was be prepared to go the
rest of the year without Ill Beckham. Now it doesn't
mean he's off the team, but you know they're exploring
what to do about this because it sort of came
(27:09):
out of nowhere for a lot of guys, and you know,
they had had like some trade talks to very end
right like right up against the deadline in the aftermath
of those posts and some of the things that were
happening and just just after that. But uh, you know,
like obviously like they were in a very difficult spot,
like at that point it was impossible to get anything
(27:30):
for him. And so now they've got a decision to make,
and it's gonna be do we try to get him
back in the fold. Do we suspend him for four
games and risk what might happen on the back end
of that. Do we try to come to some sort
of agreement like the Texans have come to with Deshaun Watson,
where you know, he collects his money, but he really
isn't part of the team for the rest of the year.
(27:52):
Or do they cut him? And if they cut him,
you know, obviously there's the risks it's gonna come back
and bite you because if you cut him, what if
you winds up on a team you're competing against in
the AFC for playoff positioning. You know, So, because of
the timing of it, because it came out of nowhere,
the Browns are in a really sticky situation and it's amazing,
you know, Kevin Sefanski and Andrew Berry, you know, effectively
(28:15):
over the last twenty one months, have found a way
to kill the circus that has sort of engulfed the
Cleveland Brown's organization over the last twenty years, and now
it very much seems like the circus at back in
town Albert. What is the feeling from people you talked
to around the league on where Odell's at as a
player now, because it's I mean, he started, you know,
(28:36):
every game and a season once in his career. We've
talked about earlier, just the number of hundred yard receiving
games he's add in Cleveland versus what he was doing
in New York. It just feels like we're a ways
away from him being that elite wide receiver. So when
we say he could come back and bite him, is
the opinion around the league that he's still got that
capability or has he seen his best days? You know,
(29:00):
he hate to like write anyone off, right, because I mean,
I was covering New England when people were doing that
with Randy Moss and they traded for him, and all
of a sudden, you know, he had the greatest season
of receivers ever had in two thousand and seven. He
was around the same age as O'Dell, you know, and
he'd had injury problems too and everything else, and so
(29:21):
he hate to write him off. But I mean, Jonas,
You're right, like it's been a while since he was
that elite guy. You know, he had three thirteen hundred
yards seasons of his first three years in the league fourteen, fifteen,
and sixteen, and he hasn't even hit eleven hundred yards
since he's had a ton of injury issues. He's clashed
with two separate quarterbacks. Yeah, I mean, I think I
(29:42):
think what you what you saw, the value as far
as the value like that that the other team has
put on him was manifested on Tuesday afternoon, and that
like if you think about it, like so when Stefon Diggs,
when Stefon Diggs, you know, showed his displeasure in Minnesota
(30:03):
a couple of March sco right, like like this was
about eighteen months eighteen months ago, the Vikings suddenly got
calls and that's how the Bills things sort of happened,
was that they were getting calls and you know, all
of a sudden, now like you know, the momentum for
a trade picked up really really fast, and the deal
got done. That didn't happen here, you know, and teams
(30:24):
are aware of what's happening with star play across the league,
and I think the value of Odell Beckham sort of
manifested in Tuesday that way, and that like if there
was this, if there were teams across the NFL that
we're really putting a great like level of on him
as a player. Andrew Barry's phone would have been ringing
off the hook on Tuesday afternoon with teams trying to
(30:45):
get him out of there, and that didn't happen. So again,
like I hate to write a guy off because I've
seen it before where it goes the other direction. They're
not seeing the same way he was three years ago.
I'm gonna jump into this Henry Ruggs conversation. It's it's
a horrific happening, and the more details that comes out,
(31:07):
it gets worse and worse. Is this is I mean,
you know, obviously you want to say this in all
sensitivity and as it applies to there was a life lost,
families have been impacted and affected by it. Is Is
this is this bad enough? What are you receiving like
in terms of initial thoughts, in terms of what Henry
(31:27):
Ruggs is future will be. I mean we've seen this happen,
yeah before, we've seen it, you know, things where guys
may have to go away for a little while and
they've had the opportunity to come back and play. What's
your initial take on this? Yeah, my initial take on it,
well obviously, and I you know, I appreciate you saying
(31:48):
that well before the first part of that LaVar, because
I do think, like, you know, we made football takes
a back seat here, right, But he is a football player,
which is why we're talking about it. And you know,
I like, I think that that's really going to be
sort of up to the judicial system, you know. And
he's twenty two years old, So I mean, if he
(32:09):
goes to jail for say five years for this or
ten years for this, I think those are two different things,
right Like, So if he goes to jail for five years,
he's twenty seven when he gets out, and then maybe
you know, he's got some time as a player left.
If he goes to jail for ten years, then we're
talking about something else entirely. And you know, we've seen
(32:30):
guys go to jail before and come out and play. Again,
you know, and I mean Dante Stalworth's you know, accident,
It wasn't the same as this, but you know, like
there are some parallels there, and he came back and played,
you know, I mean, obviously Michael Vick, I think that
would be the one that pops into everybody's head, and
that he wasn't He went to Leavenworth, you know, and
(32:52):
he came out a few years later and wound up
playing again. So you know, I think really as much
as anything with our this isn't gonna come down to
anything the NFL does or anything any team does. I
think this is gonna come down to, you know, how
his situation plays out in the courts, and how long
your sentence is and whether or not, you know, when
(33:13):
he gets out of prison, presuming he goes to prison,
and he deserves his day in court like everybody else,
you know, but like when he gets a presuming he
goes to prison, when he gets out of prison, like
how long, how far down the line are we and
is he still at an age where he can get
himself in shape to play again, which again is secondary
to so many other things now, but I think the
(33:34):
answer to the question really kind of lies in the
hands of the judicial system, not anybody involved with football. Albert,
Let's switch gears talk about Aaron Rodgers the Green Bay Packers.
I'm a little concerned here. You might be one of
those the media members who's really offended, really offended by
the fact that you weren't est ap breast of Aaron
(33:55):
Rodgers vaccination status. And so maybe this comes off as
a surprise team now that he's going to be out
this week versus the Kanas City Chiefs, you know, Brady,
I honestly, I'm not offended. I'm not offended that I
don't know, right, but I do think I will say this,
(34:15):
I think, I think like and again like, I'm not
casting judgment on anybody's choices. And we can argue to
Blue in the face about the rules. Here are the facts,
all right. This is a bigger problem now because there
was the effort to keep it secret than it would
have been if Aaron hadn't gotten out there and misled
(34:37):
people in August. I'm not offended at all. I don't like,
I don't necessarily think that I need to know, But
you know, I'm just thinking from a team perspective here,
and I don't think the teammates are gonna hold them
older against him either, because my understanding is like this
topic in locker rooms over the last three or four
months is kind of fit into the category like religion, family, money,
(34:59):
Like you you just it's a third rail thing, and
unless somebody brings it up to you, you don't bring
it up to other people. Right, So I don't think
his teammates are gonna hold it against him, but I
do think that there is this is to some degree
a bigger deal now because it was kept secret the
way it was, And like if Aaron had been more
upfront about it to begin with, it would have saved
(35:22):
him and other people a lot of trouble here where
it would have made for a couple of uncomfortable days
in the summer talking about it. But then it's sort
of over and done with and everybody knows what it is, right,
And like that's where the Colts are with Carson Winz,
That's where the Vikings are with Kirk Cousins, That's where
the Ravens were with Lamar Jackson before he got vaccinated.
(35:42):
That was the deal with cam Newton, right, And so
like I'm not offended that I don't know, but I
do think that the fact that this was kept secret
is now because a bigger problem, and not just for
Aaron Rodgers, but also for the league and the and
for the Packers. Then it would have been if he
had hand had let it say, the way Kirk Cousins
handled it, the way Carson Wins handle it, the way
(36:04):
Lamar Jackson handled it. I have a follow up to that,
but I want to ask another question on top of that,
because I guess they're pretty much related. I mean, don't
you assume that that Aaron Rodgers has to go through
the proper protocols within the team if he doesn't have
the VACS. So you'd have to assume that that his
(36:25):
teammates are aware that he hasn't vaccinated because he has
to go through the proper protocols of a player that
doesn't have the VACS. That's first and foremost. So let's
let's dispel that myth as if nobody let's dispel it, right, Okay,
all right? Then the second gout, No, you're right, you're right, no,
And I think we should be clear about that, like
(36:46):
everybody knew, and you know, I mean it's pretty I mean,
I guess impressive that they were able to keep it
quiet as far as long as they did. Because there
are a lot of people who knew in that building,
it's not hard to tell who is and who isn't,
you know. I think where Aaron did things differently was
(37:07):
the forward facing stuff, right, Like, so there are a
couple of things, like I think not wearing a mask
on the sideline was obviously one in the preseason games
because we saw their unvaxed guys wearing mask. And the
second piece of it was the press conferences, right the
Packers actually put all their unvaccinated players on zoom and
so like there are interviews of the media the unvaccinated guys,
(37:31):
those were done over zoom because it was better than
having to get in front of the media with a
mask on. Well, Aaron didn't want to do that, and
so like they broke rules there and so like there
are certain ways that they I think misled people. But
like as far as like what like the people in
(37:51):
the building knew, Yeah, I mean everybody knew it, and
to my understanding, like behind closed doors, Aaron like followed
all of the rules to a team. Now, the second
part to this question is Aaron Rodgers has been so
strategic in how he positions himself, the things he said
that first interview coming back, I don't have a problem
(38:13):
with him being deceptive, because everybody's deceptive that does interviews.
So I don't have a problem with him being deceptive.
That he didn't break any laws. But the question now
becomes in his movement. I believe the methodical things that
he's done has been to give himself more of a voice,
(38:34):
more of an opportunity to stay in Green Bay when
this season comes to an end. I feel as though
a moment like this totally could derail his credibility in
the sense that now we don't know if he's posturing,
if he's leveraging, is he genuine, Like what type of
(38:55):
impact does this have on his future? Yeah, I mean,
I guess you're talking to his credibility, And I honestly
think like some steps have been taken, and I think
Matt la Floor has done a brilliant job as far
as just balancing like the two sides of this, the
front office and Rogers and like kind of finding a
way to maintain his relationships with both sides, and you know,
(39:19):
like and they earn Aaron's trust really, and you know,
like Matt's done a lot of things that I think
show them like sort of like that emotional intelligence, right,
like where like, for example, like Randall Cobb coming in,
Like a lot of coaches wouldn't like it if a
player forced another player onto the team, right, which is
what Aaron did with Randall Cobb. But Matt was smart
(39:40):
enough to look at it and say, this makes my
quarterback more comfortable, which is gonna make my quarterback better,
which is gonna make my team better. So I'm gonna
find ways to get Randall Cobb involved. Right. So that's
one way that I think that Matt la floor is
sort of created the opportunity for them to continue the
relationship beyond this year. On top that, you see the
(40:00):
way they're more aggressive and going after players. Now it's
not just Cobb. They took a swing at Jail and Smith,
they went and got Whitney, Merciless. They've done some things
that they wouldn't have done in the past. So you know,
I think that there's all these things that have been
done where it's like, okay, like maybe the relationship continues
past twenty twenty two. I think internally they're okay, right,
likes what That's the way I'm getting to that is,
(40:22):
like I think that internally they're okay this though. I
think it is going to test a few things, right
because I think that like when you look at where
some of the rules were broken, and everybody is sort
of complicit in it, right because the Packers knew the rules,
the league knew the rules, Aaron knew the rules. I
think when the finger pointing commences on this, because it's
(40:43):
going to start at some point, who's back to the
Packers have right and the Packers going to depend themselves
or the Packers point to close ranks with Aaron Rodgers.
I think the way all of that, I think the
way all of that plays out could certainly have an
effect on what happens in February and March when we're
figuring out whether or not Rogers is going to be
(41:05):
on the team in twenty twenty two. So that part
of it, I think could play some sort of role
in whether or not Aaron Rodgers remains with the team
in twenty twenty two, because again I think you know,
in a few days, in a week, whenever it is
like the league is going to commence some level of
finger pointing here, and it's just going to be interesting
(41:27):
to see where the Packers come down on it. Get
him on Twitter at Albert Breer. Albert always appreciate it.
Let's do it again next week. Always good stuff. Hanging
