Speaker 1 (00:09):
Welcome back to the nerdy news you need to know
throughout the week on iHeartRadio. Went bye cast services around
the world. Because my name's Honey. Teddy's over there. Kevin's
running it a little late, and you're listening to this
Thursday episode of Watch Teddy Crisis on Infinite Podcasts. Yeah,
good job, good job. You can take your nap now,
(00:30):
we do good. Okay, go digg a nap. We'll go
with you. We're digging a nap. But yeah, Kevin is
running a little late. That's okay. He's a big boss now,
so you know, has to stay behind unfortunately, whereas you
know us, we can skid out of when we want
kind of. But we have a jam packed show for
you today. Nevertheless, we're gonna get Kevin's review of Mawana
to what his fam thought as well. That's gonna be
(00:52):
in the end of the podcast whenever Kevin joins us.
We're also gonna talk about those new PS five themes
that were for the thirty fan diversary of the Placed
Lego had a James Bond game in the works, and
obviously Skeleton Crew episodes one and two. I'm gonna break
it down for you if Kevin joins us, we'll get
to talk about that as well, all those cool Easter eggs,
(01:12):
because there's like a lot of cool Easter eggs in
this show that like you didn't really pay attention to.
You're like, oh wow, Captain EO. That kind of reference
the defunct Epcot show from like twenty years ago. Hell yeah,
let's do it. But you can see everything we talk
about today on the podcast and so much more by
going to Hot ninety nine to five dot com slash
Christ's Crew, or you can stay up to date with
(01:33):
us not nerdy news. You need to know at infinite
underscore buds on the Instagram on the X or it's
infinite no underscore buds on Blue Sky. Yeah we know
Blue Skies, it's there. I think the thing is Blue
Sky had its momentum what two weeks ago, and now
it's like, okay, we'll see what happens all the ly.
I think what happens is when January end of January happens.
(01:55):
We'll see what happens with the Twitter and X and
all those other variations threads. Look you because you're the
only one that gets integrated fully into Instagram. If you
want to put it on your story, but it is
what it is. But you also be part of the
show twitch dot tv or YouTube dot com, slash Infinite
Underscore pods, join the hashtag Crisis crew, be part of
the people there. We go there as well. We love
(02:18):
recording twice a week here. We have really it's while
only a couple episodes left really till the end of
the year. I know, Kevin and I we have decided
we are going to take a sort of end of
the year break just because you know there won't be
there will be shows out because there are always shows
now during winter break, but you know, gi a little time, recharge,
retool with the family, hopefully come out back to you
in January with new stuff. So it's looking like our
(02:40):
last episode for the year will be I believe the nineteenth, twentieth,
depending because jingle balls around then, so it depends how
much energy your boy has and then we'll be back
full swing of things like the fifth of January. So
heads up on that, but we're gonna get you through.
Keep you update with Skeleton Crew. We got Creature Commandos
coming out tomorrow as of this podcast recording. We'll be
talking about that on Monday episodes, but we got a
(03:02):
ton of good things coming out. You know, the game
awards are next week I think right, let's say four
h yeah, next week, so we'll be talking about that too.
So we'll get a ton of good trailers and we'll
get to recap that before we get to bounce out
of here for the end of the year and probably
be playing Indiana Jones and all that good stuff because
that game comes out soon too. JB. Perry in the
(03:22):
chat says he's behind got to watch Skelton Crew. Here's
the thing. You get started right now, probably get at
least through halfway of the first episode. That's all I'm
gonna say. We'll talk about that's been time to come.
But we always start the podcast properly what you're doing.
We talked about the shows we've been watching, plus the
movies as well, games we've been playing, lives we've been living,
and cause Kevin isn't here, good to go first, Teddy,
(03:45):
what you've been doing biting biting yourself? All right, well,
that's yeah, we don't want you to do that. But
pretty much update since Monday's episode when more was on
your boys still stuck with NBA two k twenty five,
trying to finish a perfect season, trying to take the Wizards.
You know, we're to go all the way, let's face it, Wizards,
it won't come close anytime soon. So this is the
(04:06):
only thing I can see and actually happening at Capitol
Won Arena. But it's okay. But on top of that,
I did finish. Actually, technically it's weird to think the
cell saga of dragon Ball Z but in dragon Ball
z Kai technically that's like the whole series of Dragon
Ball Z Kai. And then on Hulu there's like a
part two that the Boo saga is and it's called
(04:29):
like dragon Ball Z KAI the Final Years or something,
which is really weird. How the split it up like that.
I think it probably was just like we had these
episodes ready the first ninety eight, but the back half
of the boot or the back third, we don't have ready. Yeah.
Really cool. Oddly enough, is the first time I've actually
watched all of Dragon Ball Z congruently because for me,
(04:51):
really the biggest thing for me with Dragon Ball Z
has been in the video games, and obviously the toys too,
because they're a cool looking you know. I had the
back in the day. It was a toy that was
like it was a hard first version of Cell, like
the sort of bug looking version. It could put a
plastic shell of perfect Cell over him. I thought that
was really cool. There was also a Vegeta one too,
we had back in the day, those like early two thousands,
(05:12):
but those are the cool toys. Now. You can buy
all these statues at Marshall's to your Heart's glorious. You
on TikTok all the time trying to tempt me buying
these super saying God, Gohans and all this good stuff.
You know what I'm saying, Yeah, really good. My history
also is you know, obviously the Budocatt games boys asking
for Sparking zero for the holidays, and uh it was
(05:34):
Dragon Ball Z the Legacy of Goku too on Game
Boy Advance which got it. I think randomly, I think
maybe we had seen Tunami in an episode of Dragon Ball Z.
I think it was probably during the Booshaga like, oh,
I'll play the video game, even though that's not dragon legacy.
Goku two doesn't have that, but definitively, legacy of Goku
(05:55):
two is kind of like those that the best Game
Boy Advance game I think because the first one kind
of was working out the bug and the third one
kind of went to RPG heavy. It was a good balance.
It was just like keep shooting, You're like Kai blast
to beat every enemy. But it was really cool to
see translate for the first time, really what happens in
the video game versus what happens in the show, because
(06:15):
really like the show ends or the seal stuff ends,
and then art here. This whole episode is really just
the trunk saga and Goku building the house for King Kai. Uh. Yeah,
that's the whole thing. But in the video game it
like goes quickly through the trunk stuff, which is wild. Yeah.
I think the cool thing too with the Legacy Goku
games was it incorporated the movies that were coming out
(06:37):
at the times. I think if I remember, Legacy Goku
two did have a Brolli mission, and then it did
have a Cooler mission, which was really cool. There's like, oh,
just go off, like you don't know who these characters are.
They're not in the show right now. Cooler never Brolely,
I know, isn't super so I'm excited looking at that forward.
We're getting there, but cooler than less, but it's just
(06:58):
been cool just to sort of tie everything together. And
now we're starting the Boo saga. It is wild how
this saga starts off with We're gonna tell you about Gohan.
You know, it's another six year gap, which is cool.
This is fine. Gohan's hot, but he also he's a
fish out of water. He doesn't know what's going on
in high school. He meets Videll here in Hercule slash
Satan City. Yeah, the captions versus what's being said are
(07:21):
two different things. Jam Perry ass, do you remember the
DBZ toys at Burger King. I never had those. I
don't know. Let's see how long ago those were. Uh,
let's see, these are from the nineties. Oh, these look cool.
I think I might have seen these toys. So really
it's like a plastic stand to kind of think of
like those Lord of the Rings toys, which was kind
(07:42):
of one of the cool Burging had, like legit cool
toys because they're trying to compete with Happy Moss back
in the day. Like Pokemon was my claim to fame
with Burger King toys Men in Black as well, because
you got the little like Memory Racer cool. But another
one I remember is the Lord of the Rings one
where you could it was like fifteen figures you had
to get and then the ring in the middle and
(08:03):
if you connect to them all it would play. I
think like the Lord of the Rings theme song, which
is wild. This kind of looks like it too, with
like metal ish uh statues of all the characters with
a gold one being of Super Saiyan Goku and then
you get a freezer one. So it's kind of like
the Freezer Soca which is really cool, but you get
(08:23):
you got a card. I think that's wild too. Is
that like comparing Dragon Ball cards to what they are
to what they are now it's night and day. Same
thing with like Digimon cards. Say the same thing about
Pokemon cards. But it is what it is. But if
you want to go on that deep dive, just put
the link into the chat twitch dot tv slash if
in it Underscore pods because they look pretty cool. I
(08:44):
to buy one. Maybe we go to my little local
retro storem o, hey, you got this Goku one, I'll
put it back there. I don't need to go to
Marshalls and bystips a figure that's eight inches instead. It
is what it is. But besides that, it is funny
more and I actually might be seeing Wicked again this weekend.
Her sisters and her mom want to see it and
(09:06):
not gonna lie. I'm kind of down to see it, Teddy,
Let's stop that, okay, and uh so we might take
them to go see it and uh have a good time.
So if you want to see a Wicked, still a
good time to go see it because you might have
more options of choosing seats and whatnot. But that's what
I've been doing. Let me know what you've been doing.
Infinite underscore pods on the Instagram or the Gonna give
it to you. Yes. The Inspector gadget toys were also
(09:28):
good for McDonald's where it was one, two, three, four
or five were like seven pieces, uh seven or six
pieces to build an inspector. Each thing was a toy,
so like the arm was like an extendo arm. The
helicopter was like a sparky I think one of them
was like a sparky thing that made sparks. But he
put them together and made a whole Inspector gadget doll
(09:49):
and so if you had boughten, six or seven happy meals,
granted he woud McDonald's that had every piece you were
solid golden. Those things were fortunes. Now same thing with
I have still the outer shell of the poke ball
that Burger King did when they had the Pokemon toys,
and they kind of had it was the answer to
(10:09):
McDonald's glass cups. It was, we're selling gold Pokemon cards
in poke balls for Pokemon the first movie, which like
Wild for a time, I think it was like eight
bucks to buy one, which is pretty much the price
of this was price of like a normal meal plus
the kids meal back in the nineties. But the coolest
thing was we had one of our like school fundraising
(10:31):
nights or whatever it was at the Burger King and
I just we made my brother John and I made
our parents like, hey, can we get this and this?
And they only had like three toys out of the
like fifteen or whatever they had for Pokemon, but we
still have them. Anita Queen in a voltorp or an
electric it's a voltorp correct, I was, well, but let's
get on into it. Kevin's not here yet. He'll be
here shortly, so we're going to switch around how we
(10:52):
do the news. But it is myself looking at you
hashtag the crisis crew. Time for the news with the
audio plays. So first things first, we have to talk
about that there actually was a Lego James Bond game
(11:12):
that actually was in the works at one point in time.
And I think this is the wildest thing is when
we think of the Lego games, you probably think of
first One Star Wars than probably the Marvel Ones, maybe
more of the Rings and maybe Indiana Jones. I think
those kind of had their moments and then didn't get
the remakes, and Harry Potter won as well. Lego Dimensions
(11:33):
maybe if you were still in the Toys of the
Life sort of franchise like that. But earlier this week,
a pitch video for what was it to be a
Lego James Bond movie leaked online. Obviously it's been taken down,
but that didn't stop the internet obviously from talking about
it because apparently the minute long trailer I saw it too,
and it looked pretty good for basic Lego features showed
(11:55):
a hatdful of scenes from James Bond movies, but they
were you know, Daniel Craig had a couple other Bonds, uh,
but they were lego formed. The cool thing was it
was real because apparently Lego Games Tech director Paul Hughes
said at one point that was being worked on. It
was at the tail end of Lego Dimensions development period,
because remember at the time Lego Dimensions they kind of
(12:16):
stopped what they were doing and said, hey, Skylanders was
doing great, let's do the same thing. And you know,
you know, I think it was Disney Infinity at the
same time. People are buying these toys and then they weren't.
They're buying the first expansion and then that was it,
and then they were always on sale after that. So
who knows if this was supposed to be a Lego
Dimensions expansion or if it was going to be a
(12:38):
full video game, But I thought of it pretty cool.
I think there are a lot of games that I
think if you give them the Lego treatment, they really
could fly to a degree. I mean, je Lego James
Bond could be really cool, especially to younger audiences, because
you're not going to sit them down and watch the
old ass James Bond movies, and you're probably not gonna
make them sit down and watch Daniel Craig movies because
(12:59):
they're a little too violent, a little too with alty.
But according to the main Leaker, which was the Lego
Video Game Museum Lego Game Museum on on X. The
trailer was supposed to be for a full fledged Lego
James Bond game. You know, we're still getting the one, hopefully.
What the makers of the hit Man games hit Man
(13:21):
games developer Io Interactive which still waiting on that game awards,
could be a cool place to have that. But I
think the other thing is there's a lot of franchises
that I think Lego Dimensions kind of was capitalizing. Back
to the future. They had a Ghostbusters doctor who which
you know, was selling the sets and buy the sets
(13:42):
and get them incorporated in the game too. But I
think the coolest thing as Teddy Teddy, hey give here,
give me all right, relax, go lay in her bed,
was that all those games could have had momentum from
Lego Dimensions if they really took off people really liked them,
But it didn't. I do think I think having a
Lego game is a cool entry point for anything at Lego.
(14:04):
Jassic Park, slash World or whatever it was was also
a good entry Like if you didn't played watch the movies,
but we're watching Jassic World as a kid, boom you
caught up good. You got the bits, you got the
Allen from Jassic World Park three, which is really the
only thing you need from Jassic Park three, and you're
golden obviously. Like Lego Star Wars. Actually, what is the
(14:25):
last Lego game? I think Lego last Lego game I
think is Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga twenty twenty two,
so two years ago. I mean, here's the track history
of Lego games up to this point, twenty twenty two,
Skywalker Saga. Oh, we have Lego Horizons the Venture, which
just came out, so you got that. But that's technically
(14:47):
like sort of a tet games thing, sort of not
We've had Lego Incredibles, Lego the Movie Games. We've had
Lego Batman, Lego DC super Villains in twenty eighteen, but
at one point we had Pirates yet Harry Potter or
the I mean Lego Fortnite technically two K Drive technically
as well. Let's see the early versus Lego Island, Lego Brawls.
(15:09):
Bionicle had a game at one point. I mean, that's
a that's the thing, man. I think if Lego Dimensions
that kept going, Bionicle could have had a comeback. Bionycle
I think was ahead of its time of saying, hey,
let's turn these toys in action figures. But you got
to build the action figure, which led to you know,
build the figures, which has always been a thing for
like Marvel and Star Wars. But I think the coolest
thing with that would have been, all right, we're gonna
(15:32):
the same thing with like Hot Wheels. How they reinvented
themselves when they had the there was like the World
Racers where it was like the Blue Team where the
Surfer team and all that good stuff. It really got
you in the Hot Wheels. Baronacle did the same thing,
and I think Lego, I think is obviously capitalized on
having the video games. But hey, you know, I don't
need to buying six hundred dollars for a block of
(15:52):
this is Marvel that kicks out some minifigures. Oh believe me,
I've seen that. Yes, that's an actual new Lego set
that you build the Marvel logo and in there you
can stuff five or six figures that pop out and
that's all it does. And it's one hundred dollars. It's
not six hundred dollars one hundred but there's other like sets.
(16:13):
My brother and his fiance love him. They have the
Lego Paris, I think the UCS Ultimate Collector seies set
on their wedding rear streets six hundred bucks. I want
to buy it for him, but I can't buy six
hundred dollars yet. Lego like if you have Legos, say
the boxes, unless like this bed one that I have
over here that I built. It's been broken twice. Luckily
(16:35):
I built it back together, So probably not up the
snuff to what it looks like. But brother John has
his things in the class cases. The funny thing is
we might get him on when he actually like they
fully move into their house and have everything in there.
Right now, one of the closets in one of their
bedrooms because they have three bedrooms, is dedicated just to
his Lego sets in skateboards. So I'm excited to see
(16:56):
what happens with that in the near future. But you know,
it's easy to get him gifts is obviously the Lego stuff.
On top of that. You know, he does have a
PlayStation five. You boys been dabbling with it with NBA
two K. You know, we were playing Last of Us
then we stopped. But in case you didn't know, this
week was the thirtieth anniversary for the PlayStation one. And
(17:17):
the cool thing is, in case you haven't booted it
up your PlayStation in a while, is it will actually
boot up how the PlayStation one used two back in
the day of that with sort of the orange looking
logo on the white screen, which is really dope. I
discovered that myself as soon as everyone else did. And
the cool thing is you can now PlayStation five has
added themes to your home screen, which I know has
(17:40):
always been a thing that people really want but never happened.
That is either themed after a PS one, PS two, three,
or four, which is really cool. No one knows if
it's for it says it's for a limited time, but
I think players does just really keep it. But it's
really cool because then the sound effects like if you
if you haven't enabled with the menu music actually made
(18:00):
whatever they used to do back in that console, minus
the PS one obviously, because you would put the disc
in and play, you wouldn't have buttons on the menu. Nevertheless,
if you haven't booted up your PlayStation updated real quick,
just enjoy that little like, oh man, that's really nice.
I enjoyed that. Can we go back to those days
and then obviously I'm assuming well, actually no, actually they
(18:24):
probably won't have a lot of big game award announcements.
We'll probably talk about that next week on Monday's episode,
just like what we think will be the big announcements.
But they have been selling a lot of those thirtieth
University consoles and controllers. I saw up through Black Friday
weekend like it was selling up till I THENK yesterday.
At one point you could buy the controllers if you
wanted to. Was tempted. But here's the thing. You don't
(18:45):
need more than two dual Sense controllers. You barely need
more than one dual Sense controller. If you know you're
not playing multiplayer games, and let's say said more so
not playing NBA two K twenty five with me, maybe
I'll get it play. You know, I can't even play
Spider Man come up? Never mind one day? Well we
had that potential one day. But cool thing to just
(19:05):
update it if you can. But I guess let's get
on into it. You know, we're still waiting on Kevin,
and that's totally okay. You know, we'll get some Mowana
to in action hopefully at then the podcast, My luck
is Kevin's gonna be here right in the last five minutes.
Let's talk about it. It's time to talk about and
break down the first two episodes of Skeleton Crew. So
(19:26):
the the audio plays, now there we go. Take it.
So this is really cool. Unfortunately couldn't pimp in enough,
but your boy got to host the actual screener first,
the first two episodes of Skeleton Crew. So take that
with a grain of salt as we talk about this show. Uh.
(19:47):
But you know the best thing about our podcast is
we do non spoilers first, uh, and then we go
in full spoilers obviously these two episodes. I love this.
Disney Plus has really done this a lot. I think
a lot of series actually do it. Now The Boys.
The Boys did it when it came out with its
first three episodes is released, I think, and Penguin Penguin
did it too. Yeah, is released the first two because
(20:09):
I think that's what really hooks people in is to
have more than forty minutes to an hour of content.
Doesn't have that, you know, hour and a half content,
because then it really fully immersed. I think the beauty
of this show is it really did that. You know,
the first episode is like about an hour, just based
on my track time. I didn't obviously watched it on
Disney Plus. I watched it in a movie theater, so
it was a little bit different. And the second episode,
(20:32):
being about thirty ish minutes, really was good I think.
I mean, Disney Plus has been doing it since the
Bad Batch and it's it's really hooked us, and I
think this show did a great job of doing that.
If you haven't watched it, I think it is well
worth your time. I know it is advertised kind of
as a kiddie show that's eighties vibes, and it really
(20:52):
is Goonies meets Stranger Things meets Star Wars. You know,
the first episode's proof of that really where you know worse.
I guess it's not heavy spoilers, but you know, we're
in this planet where you know, the kids are going
to school. You know, it is leading up to the
big day where they have to take the test to
figure out what their job is going to be for
the rest of their lives. But all of a sudden
(21:13):
you stumble upon an alien spaceship and then you go
on a venture that's really some of the first episode.
Really we'll do details, don't worry about it. But I
think the characters are very likable so far. It is
very nostalgic of those eighties and nineties, you know those
kid movies where you don't like the parents, and let's
face it, you never did, you know, you talk about
(21:35):
like Max Keeble's big move, you talk about the good
He's like the parents weren't your favorite. I mean some
of the adults cool, you know, I get Sloth technically
was an adult, I guess. I guess, I don't know,
but you know, they were there more to set up
the kids, and I think the kids of this show
in the first two episodes really shined. And Neil, I
(21:55):
am part of the Neil nation, who is the blue
elephant guy that is not related to Max read not
all blue elephants are related together, but I do think
that character stood out. It is an actor, actually, I
think at some points he's digital with the face. In
some points he has an actual elephant head, like elephant
helmet or whatever on him to act out the scenes.
I think he killed it. The kid who plays whim
(22:19):
and that's funny. You know, we got to learn everyone's
names and all like, yeah, killed it as well. And
I do think, you know, introducing KB and Fern kind
of as kind of their opposites. They they're kind of
the cool girls that are rebelistic but can't don't have
anything to rebel against. It was really cool and I
think it really those characters can really shine. I think
(22:43):
the interesting thing is this first episode really gave me
a lot of vibes of Star Wars Rebels, where a
lot of people, you know, this was the time of
we've had Clone Wars and Clone Wars had ended randomly
because you know, Disney bought Star Wars and Randian Uncard
you know, work, but you know got popped back up.
You know, it was good, it got that end of
it deserved Star Wars. Everyone was dogging on Star Wars
(23:06):
Rebels because it was the first, i think one of
the first actual like Disney things that was on Disney
XD that people were like, oh, I'm not gonna watch
Disney XD. That's for kids, you know, that's for preteens
that would be edgy and watch Zeke and Luthor or whatever.
It was on Disney and all the skateboarding shows and
all that good stuff. But hey, don't sleep on it.
You know, we had oh, what the hell's that? So
(23:28):
uh digging Disney XD shows, we had what the shows?
Oh god, gravity Falls? Yeah, gravity Falls I think is
MVP from that era of Disney XD. The same thing
with Star Wars Rebels is you won't even think it
was it was on Disney XD at the time now
because it's on Disney Plus. Where really the first episode
(23:52):
of Star Wars Rebels, it's Ezra. You really learned about
his life on thett Fall. You're only about how the
planet of thett Fall works. Dampire's coming in. You know,
they're not really like shoving down your throat the Empire,
but it is. You know, they're really just some stormtroopers
bullying the townspeople all that good stuff, and things change
once you know, Canaan and the Ghost Squad show up
(24:13):
and all of a sudden, you know get to I
think it is still the first episode whatever first three
episodes that you find out Canaan's a Jedi and you're like, oh,
this is really cool. Where we're gonna go from this?
And obviously we got to where we were with Rebels
being one of the best pieces of Star Wars out there,
with Clone War's being right there too. I think this
has the potential because it really followed the same suit
(24:33):
of your following the lives of these kids and episode two.
This isn't really spoilers because in the trailers you get
introduced to jew Law, we find out he's a Jedi,
and you're like oh, and the episode end's like, all right,
tell me where we're going next. You were successful last
time in animation with Ezra, Now tell me where we're
going now. But I do think it is worth your
(24:54):
time watch it. It's only an hour a half. And
if you don't like, hey, it's okay, wait till all
eight episodes come out. I think it's January fourteen. It
all ends, so I'll be going through the holidays, and
you got What If coming out too, and they got
Creature Commando. So it is a great time. You know,
we had that little lull. Now I got shows to
talk about, you know what I'm saying. But I guess
let's get on into it. This is full spoilers a bound,
So if you haven't seen the episode, you can posit here.
(25:16):
Watch the episodes come back. We got you covered completely.
It kind of gave you a non spoiler synapsis of
how two episodes went. Neil is the MVP for sure
right now. But if you love spoilers, like you're saved
is like one Andy drogon door, come hang out with
us and we'll enjoy it. And Kevin's going to be
here any second. I hope it's not one of those
things where he's saying that he'll be here one day.
(25:36):
He'll be here one day and then he never shows up.
He'll show up. Don't worry. We're not fighting. It's just busy.
It's okay. So the cooling is. Episode one kicks off
with opening crawl kind of shades of Ahska a little bit.
It says since the fall of the Empire, the New
Republic has maintained order, and yet remote hyperspace routes are
increasingly plagued by piracy. These pirates boldly brand their armored
(25:58):
holes is assigned to all ships surrender or die. I
thought this was really cool of like like, okay, that's
kind of see what we're going with. But pirates in
space low ki kind of work. You know, we kind
of got the to a degree with Guardians, you know,
they kind of are pirates. The Ravengers really are more
(26:20):
than anything kind of set up. You know, space pirates
work and they could be cool. You know, we don't
want to. Pirates of the Caribbean obviously work, but unless
you're that, we don't really care about it. Disney kind
of owning the Pirate ip right now. But it kicks
off with an opening that as sort of not really
opening crawl, but opening statement, and then we get right
on the action. Very shades of a New Hope where
(26:43):
it is I believe it's like a Republic freighter or
it's a freighter at some point that we're in the
era of the New Republic. So the movie the show
is supposed to be taking place six years after ish
Return of the Jedi, so it's about a year or
so before the events of Manned. We'll get there when
we get there. But the first episode kicks off with
(27:04):
this ship under New Republic watch being attacked by a
pirate ship, very shades of you know, the Empire attacking
the Tanta four aka lay A ship, which is really cool.
They bore the ship and it is them shooting like
plastic e tunnels on the ship, very shades of Clone Wars.
When a separatist invade Camino, it is like sort of
(27:26):
claws that open up and then everyone comes out of it,
which is really cool. But instead of you know, rebel
troopers kind of preparing for all the pirates to come out,
it is, you know, just freak guys. They're like, we're
gonna do the best we can. I saw a lovely
tweet the day that was like the guy who had
the most screen time out of those people who died.
I was like, you know, I just had an opportunity
(27:48):
to be in Star Wars, and I'm gonna take it.
Maybe one day I'll be an action figure, but who knows.
I love what I did, and my kids can be
proud of me for being in Star Wars, and that's
what we want. That's what we love from Star Wars.
But it is really cool. We find out that this
crew of pirates is led by a captain, Captain Silvo.
(28:08):
Silvo is pleased. You know, he's got a helmet on,
kind of looking like a little bit like a Darth
Vader reminiscent of that. But it turns out Silva orders
his crew to throw the captain out of the air lock.
He's looking like, you know, I know there's something on
this ship. Uh and the crate. The freight captain goes, no,
we're just a freight trip. We don't have anything vary
shades of you know, I think it's Admiral a Dean.
(28:31):
I think with Vader like I want that, I want these,
I want to take it live. Turns out in the
vault they were trying to break into, uh, nothing in
there besides one old Republic credit kind of Captain Silvo's
right hand man is is that wolf species Brutus which
technically is a Sista Vannon who which technically is a
(28:55):
species that I thought for sure was in a New Hope.
It's in the cant He's one of the bonsers in
the canteena scene but apparently not. It is you know
that wherewolf looking vibe of an alien and Brutus obviously
a too brute, betrays his captain, not really betrays him,
but declares the mutiny because the captains let him wrong.
(29:15):
They've gone, you know, twenty seven cycles without finding anything
and a lot of people died, and they throw him
to the brig. We don't know where he's going. We
don't know who the captain is. But the kind of
British posh accent tells you it's Jude Law, which is
a fun little twist on things. Is that the pirate
(29:36):
that you know was leading the antagonists at this point,
because that group of pirates were really the antagonist so far,
is also a Jedi, or so we think we'll find
out in the episode, which I think adds a little
degree of like, all right, is this guy actually gonna
be a Jedi? Is he just doing tricks? We'll hire
about really, you know, doing the long con, which I
(29:57):
think Jude Law does really pretty good with within his characters.
But that's how the episode starts. We cut to you know,
Skeleton Crew title scene, kind of a quick beat of
an intro, which is totally okay, we don't need a
long one, which we kind of learned from Bad Batches.
Oh sad thing with Skeleton Crew, we meet Wim, who's
pretty much in love and fascinated with with the Jedi.
(30:20):
They're on the planet called that At in which we
find out a little bit later but we don't know
what happened to WiM's mom, but WiM's dad very busy,
as we know, he's a single parent household and he's
got to work a lot. Wim is actually playing with
action figures, which you know, gave me nostalgia playing with
you know, my Power of the Force toys from the
nineties back in the day as a kid, and I
(30:41):
think that's where we're really this. This episode really excelled
a lot the first episode of like Wim and Neil
are really all of us that grew up as Star
Wars fan, especially in the late eighties and the nineties,
like I did, and Kevin did you know, playing with
our toys imagining we're recreating the movies that Wim. It
gets a point where Whim is late for school, he
(31:02):
has to catch the bus, but he meets his friend Neil,
like said, the blue elephant species that they're playing with fake.
I think it's like flashlights or something as lightsabers and
having lightsaber battle. They're doing the whole thing where like
you shrack down someone and they have to bleed out
with their guts imaginary. It was great and it definitely is.
They're like, oh man, this is what Star Wars is.
Isn't just you know, plot plot plot driving Force of Skywalkers.
(31:25):
It is, let's be in this and this is why
we love it. Like it literally was like one of
those like Toyota commercials to see that are cute and
why you love Star Wars and all that good stuff.
It turns out their bus driver is an RX series
aka Captain Rex or DJ or not Cather Rex actually
was Captain Rex at one point and DJ Rex from
Galaxy's Edge, that series of droids, which is always cool
(31:47):
to see them pop up as kind of just the
transport droids even though it's not Rex. Hey, it's always
cool to see the same ones. But we find out
that at their school pretty much everyone is kind of
led astray by, like I think it was like Truancy
back in the day for school. It might still be,
(32:07):
but these kind of robots that kind of like dictate
are the enforcers of this of the town as far
as you know of where they are at and everything.
I thought was a cool note that every ship or
every transport is on a track, so like there's no
actual driving. Everything's kind of pre scheduled and preordained on
this planet. But on the way to school, Whim and
(32:29):
neil Cee two girls Fern and KB later on sort
of a modified scooter bike that they're taking their own
shortcut to school. They're kind of gritty. They're having fun
and kind of going against the grain. We later find
out Fern is the daughter of kind of the I
think it was like supervisor, so kind of the governor
(32:50):
of the town or mayor really in charge of things,
making things go forward and everything. But we do find
out that Fern and KB their bike breaks eventually at
some point in this episode, and they have to look
for power converters. So it's just another like, hey, look
at that, another New Hope reference. You know, every adventure
starts with looking for power converters in town. We do
(33:11):
find out that there is a big test that they
are doing, this big placement test, like I said earlier,
where your future career will be determined by how you place.
Wim doesn't know it happens, so he's got to study,
but in doing so, he gets distracted and is reading
Tales of the Jedi, not the show, actual like an
actual book or data pad, which is just really cool
(33:32):
because like you're like, as a kid, I did this.
You know, you had the touch and talk recreation of
the Star Wars movies. Where was it played? The sounds?
It's like, oh, C three PO said, human cyborgs relations
and all that good stuff, and I think, yeah, just
the satdressing on the show really killed. They do say
Wizard in this show a lot, which I really loved
because hell, you know, all these Phantom Menace kids were
(33:56):
all grown up. Everyone's starting to have kids now, and
we thought, oh, Wizard was cool, Wizard is cool, and
now people are saying it, so we're making Wizard fully
cannon again. But we do get kind of as Wim
and Neil are going back to their houses. Whim obviously
home alone, has to study his dad's working overtime for them.
It's like inspection day or something, he said. We find
(34:17):
out that Neil and his family are watching a hologram
show that actually is footage from Star Wars the Holiday special.
They actually kind of recreated it as one of the
shows that Chewbacca's son, Lumpy and the Grandpa we're all watching,
and I thought it's really cool that like they repurpose it.
(34:38):
They actually kind of had like film the footage to
make it in sort of a hologram form. But cool.
And you know, Baby Neil's siblings could rival Baby Grogu.
I'm gonna say that right now. They look cute, and
you know they're gonna sell the dolls, probably of them
for sure. Cool again is Whim does also does make
Americans that you know he knows back in the day,
(34:58):
you know, Bury Jedi tep exist, which is another reference,
and that's just a reference to rebels where we know
in Low Fall there was a Bury Jedi temple. Because
Wim wakes up late to school on the career test day,
everyone's back in school. He misses the bus, He tries
to get his bike, tries to recreate the shortcut. He
saft Fern and KB do missed it and so well
(35:20):
he hit it but didn't get all the way. He
stumbles upon this door that he thinks is that buried
Jedi temple. It isn't. Obviously, he shows up at school,
he's given one last chance. His dad's mad at him.
You know, it's typical of how these eighties and nineties
movie set up. When convinces Neil, we find out Neil
was a great character overall. I think just his foibles
(35:41):
and everything were perfect. He convinces Neil to go back
to the hatch with him. Fern we find out, being
the daughter of like the supervisor of the town, convinces
KB hey there might be power converters on this because
the planets kind of tapped for power converters. They all
agree to work together after Dibb's originally on the outside
and the inside to open up the hatch. They get
(36:03):
in there, they find a skeleton, They find a bunch
of skeletons. They find Adroid, who we later find out
will be called s M thirty three aka Smee, which
is perfect for a pirate based Star Wars show, played
by Nick Frost you know him from pretty much all
the Simon Peg movies from back in the day. That
(36:24):
they obviously turn on the power to the ship and
the ship lifts off and takes them into space, all
the while while Williams dad catches up of them sees
them take off, thinking they've been adopted abducted more than
they accidentally turned on the ship. The ship in autopilot
jumps to hyperspeed and they don't know where they're going
and they're lost, and that's how the episode one ends.
(36:46):
Funnily enough, as they're leaving the planet's atmosphere, all the
kids say, oh no, we're gonna go through the barrier
and crash. So they're thinking kind of a little bit
like how space Balls is. There's like a weird barrier
glass dome around the planet there isn't which is interesting
just to note and jot down for future episodes. And
(37:09):
they jump into hyperspace, and that's where episode two really
picks up, really, where they fall out of hyperspace and
it is sme showing up kind of doing a little
bit of like a Darth Vader where there's like a
red fog and you just see a black figure coming
out of it. Looks scary to degree, but Smee has
a little like hamster thing coming out of them, which
is adorable. And I think they killed it with Smee's design.
(37:33):
Looks a little bit like a Twoso but a little
more and more broody brute force, I guess, and I
really dug it. I think Nick Frost did a great
job with that character, really of him saying he tries
to take the kids of the brig, but Fern says, no,
the captain's dead. I kill them. I'm your captain. I'm
the captain now, and sme obliges because that's just this protocol.
(37:55):
Fern asks him to take them back home to add Atton.
We kind of get this idea that SMI does. SM
thirty three doesn't know what's going on, but he does
mention a tollon Aldanni and Ala core A toll in
is the is the planet that was the base of
Chopper base in Star Wars. Rebels that Thron kind of bombed.
(38:16):
Aldanni is the planet in and Or where they have
their heist, the cool colorful planet, and Ala Cour isn't
in Star Wars, but it might be reference to Pong,
which is a cool, you know, eighties reference. SM thirty
three doesn't know about the planet, but apparently get this
the idea that at Atten is this lost planet and
(38:36):
no one knows how to get to because SM thirty
three says, you know, I can take you to people
that know more info. Port Borgo, which is a Star
Wars Legends reference which we see a bunch of pirate ships.
We see the pirate ship from the beginning of the
first episode. Also dogs, you're like, uh oh uh, And
this is where we're greeted to a teak Ferryman. We're like,
(38:56):
what the hell did Hoody just say a teak who
is actually an alien species? I thought was adorable because
it for sure it was a puppet, which is an
alien species introduced in the e Walk Holiday special or
not a holiday special, but the Ewalk made for television
movies where they popped up and you never really saw
him again. But hey, now they're ferrymen on this pirate bait,
(39:17):
on this pirate port. The kids give the teak ferryman
an Old Republic credit which Wim had as lunch money,
and the ferryman goes crazy. He's like, oh, this is
a lot of money. Hell yeah, let's do it. The
kids get separated, obviously as kid's gonna do ferning. KB
run into this Lady of the Night if they're gonna say,
(39:38):
and the Lady of the Knight says, you kids shouldn't
be here. Let me get you on a ship. They
don't know if they can trust her or not, because
they get on this port knowing it is a port
of pirates and scum and villainy and not to trust anybody.
But it seems, at least to me based on this
second episode, she seemed like a genuine person, but who knows.
KB does see a sort of wing, kind of pigmy
(40:00):
looking alien and it actually is Fuzzball from Michael Jackson's
Captain e O, which Back in the Day was a
three D short film at Epcot that was actually, I
think executive produced by George Lucas, so kind of cool, like, hey,
we're going to tend the Captain EO another you know,
(40:20):
eighties nineties reference, which is really cool. While they're doing that,
they kind of running away from the lady to find
the boys. The boys are hungry. They're going to pretty
much the cafe bar thing straight out of Star Wars Outlaws.
They asked for a meal. When they pay for it,
they realize, oh, our money's worth a lot more than
(40:42):
we think. And we're actually introduced. What is the character's name?
Let me find them, dude, we got probably should have
put that on here. Let's do care cast. No, all right,
they run into the pirates that was in Mandalorians last season.
(41:02):
That was in that pirate so he kind of escaped.
We know this being a prequel, this kind of sets
up where he'll be. So I'm assuming his crew, led
by Brutus, you know, the weird wolf looking guy, isn't
gonna go well as far as we know. This leads
to the chef an attendant at the stand and that
pirate guy chasing after whim and Neil. They run into
(41:23):
the girls obviously, and then SM thirty three goes straight
into action. Really cool, kind of having Captain America action
scenes and having two sort of shields on his arm.
The heat up. They do actually bump into a Hut
enforcer who's actually getting the Hattie's logo on his arm,
which I thought, you know, just playing a Star Wars outlaws,
(41:44):
you know what that logo is because you've seen it
a lot, and I really Doug just sat dressing Vain
actually is the pirate for Bandos season three. He was
the second command to Gorrian Shard, but it's interesting to
see how he'll get there. We do also see Jalil
White is also one of the pirates that works for Brutus.
(42:08):
He's gonna be his character's gunter. He's kind of the
tech looking humanoid. Really cool. Just you know Rkle in
Star Wars. It's another eighties and nineties reference in here.
But SM thirty three tells the kids, you know, get
back to the ship. We'll figure this out. He is
essentially shot with like an electro gun or something, so
(42:29):
he's incapacitated. They take the kids to their brig and
it is very reminiscent of another pirate reference, Pirates of
the Caribbean, because there's a key that's just at a distance.
They happen to have the hamster that was in s
M thirty three, and they're trying to teach him. Hey,
you know, go get the key. Get the key, you'll
come back. We'll give you, We'll give you whatever you want. Unfortunately,
(42:50):
the little alien hamster isn't listening. It's kind of doing
its own thing. It runs away. Then we hear a
voice and distance it's Jude Law. We find out hooded
and he says, you know, like I can help you
guys get there. Oh. We also find out at Atton
is a hidden treasure planet. Treasure planet another pirate reference,
that no one knows how to get there, but somehow
(43:12):
that spaceship got there. We'll see in the near future. But
Jude Law's character, which the kids don't know who he is.
They know he's a character, at least right now, we
don't know what name he's gonna go by, at least
after this has said, you know, is it supposed to
be job not no Wood, So we'll go. Jod says,
you know, if you take me to the planet, take
me with you get me out of the brig, I'll
(43:33):
get you out of here. And this is where the
Force theme kind of plays off with this kind of
a little bit of a different theme as well, and
Jod pulls off the key, grabs it and he says,
let this be our little secret, and that's where the
episode ends. And it's so good. Dude. I thought really
like this these two episodes. Knocked out of the park.
(43:54):
I think, really, if anything, it makes me excited. I
really want another, thinking oh, this will be okay. You know,
it will be more like a Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures,
but knocked out apart killed it. I think, obviously we
have six more episodes ago, but it will be up
to truly the rest of the episodes to see how
(44:14):
it goes. I think either they've been pushing to law
a lot, because you know, the kids will probably get
hated on. I don't think the kids will deserve any
hate online because they killed it. But it'll be interesting
to see the kids trusting him because he's a Jedi,
mainly whim and being the kind of the facto leader
of the kids, with Fern thinking oh he's a Jedi,
(44:35):
he's got to be a good guy. But we don't
know if he's actually a Jedi, or if he's a Sith,
or if he's just a Force user, or if he
doesn't have the Force at all and just playing kind
of a magic trick. But it will be cool to see,
you know, maybe if if John is supposed to be
you know, the long John Silver character. You know, we've
seen him Treasure many a Treasure Planet and Treasure Island movies,
(44:58):
if he's going to go that route, or if it
truly will be you know, like a Canaan, you know,
a rogue Jedi that is very rough around the edges,
truly accepting their calling. So we could go either way,
and I'm fine with either way. But yeah, that's really
the thoughts on Skeleton Crew of predictions. Wise, I think
what I mean, if it is a pirate show, you
(45:20):
gotta show off the Star wars Pirate, the one Star
wars Pirate, which is Hondo anaka each. I think at
this point, Galaxy's Edge Batu and Black Spire outposts exists
two degree. So they remember back in the day when
they opened up that part of Hollywood Studios in Disneyland,
(45:40):
they had an actual actor dress up as Hondo Onaka
I don't know if his Jim Cummings or not, and
had someone in an actual suit that looked like Hondo
and Naka, so they have it somewhere. So they're just
bringing up whether he's just a cameo in this sort
of pirate base or something else. I think you have
to intro him. So that's kind of my early prediction
(46:00):
for it is intro him. And I do think the
cool thing is the planet at at and we get
the vibes, is the people on that planet don't know
what's going on. So I think what's really going to
be the cool thing is is how out of time
are they? Because you know, we've had multiple Star Wars,
but if they're using old Republic credits, you know, we've
(46:24):
had Palpatine, we've had Vader, you know, at this point,
we've had you know, we have Grievous, we have Dooku,
We're almost about to have the first Order. Why these
people out of the note? How do they get lost
out of shuffle? Is it kind of like a Calcastus
where they found a pocket galaxy dimension that is just
out of time from the Skywalker Soga and it could work.
(46:44):
And I think them getting back and find out what
is the true treasure on that a and will be
the really cool thing whether there is you know, peace,
that's the treasure we've had all along, or if it's
actual gold. But it's cool to see these kids that
hate the planet they're on getting sucked into the world
and find out, oh, the planet they were on is
the planet everyone wants to be on, instead of finding
(47:04):
a map and finding some random planet is no, your
home was actually the treasure. So that's that's a cool
little dynamic. I thought. The cool thing is the Daniels,
who've done everything, who did everything ever at once, are
directing a I think like the four, fourth or fifth episode,
so it'll be really interested to see what their takes
are on because everyone, I think like everyone has seen
everything everywhere, all at once, so it'll be really interested
(47:27):
to see what their take is in the Star Wars galaxy,
I think the cool the the best thing about the
Star Wars shows is it gets a lot of directors
involved with Star Wars. You know, Bryce, Alice Howard I
think is supposed to be doing an episode as well,
and you hit her and a bunch of other directors
from Mando like they're now like in charge of Star
where they have the keys to other Disney projects if
(47:49):
they nail their episodes and allow of them do, which
is really dope. You know, Taika still has a Star
Wars movie at one point, because you know he did
the Mandalorian episode and he was, I G eleven, I
G eighty eight? What I do eleven? Yeah? Correct? But
that that does it for me. On Star Wars Skeleton Crew.
Oddly enough, it came out Monday, nine pm. I believe
it comes out actually Tuesdays at nine pm going forward,
(48:12):
so planned accordingly, we'll obviously be talking about that on
the Wednesday records for Thursday episodes. Creature Commandos, which is
really cool. Get the first two episodes that comes out tomorrow,
so we talking about that on Monday episodes, so it
should be dope as hell. I have very good reviews
about that as well. And if you love Peacemaker, you
love the Suicide Squad, you're gonna love this. And it's
a lot of people are saying it's a good sign
(48:33):
for what's to come for the DCU. And also Superman
lowis ended on Monday. By the same time. I didn't
watch it. I kind of lost track on Superman lois
just because there wasn't appeal. I think we were all
kind of just needed a break, a debrief from the Aeroverse.
But the last Vestige, even though camera really wasn't connected
to the Aeroverse, is officially over. The ended with a
(48:56):
cameo of Crypto and it's really sad, y'all. Watch if anything,
just watch the montage that's the end on TikTok about
the final episode, because if you're recently married, just got
a dog, or someone passed away, you don't cry. Regard
if you're a living person, you're gonna cry. But besides that,
Kevin will be back on Monday's episode. Unfortunately ran a
(49:19):
little too late and your boy covered everything, so let's
think it gets in here in like thirty seconds. We're
gonna wrap up the episode, but we will be back
on Monday obviously. Like I said, talk about Creature Commandos
getting it ready for the Game Awards next week as well.
Big see everything we talked about today so much more
by going to Hot ninety nine to five dot com.
Slash Crisis crew can say out the date with us
(49:43):
