Speaker 1 (00:00):
They are NFL champions. The Seattles he Hawks have one
Super Bowl forty eight.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
As part of our non stop coverage of the NFL,
this is Softy's weekly visit with Kevin Harlan.

He's a piece.

Brought to you by Twin Peaks in tuck Willa open
every Sunday morning, just in time for kickoff.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
He was like a pinball banging off.

Yard catch it run catch every game, every bite and
every sip only a Twin Peaks Tuck Willa.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hit the touchdown, hit the touchdown, hits grab by purse.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Now with Kevin, here's Softy Jacoby Brissette.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Oh there was the piss who is hit? The polo's
free picked up by Lawrence. Will they take it on? Yes, sir?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
To the house?
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Touchdown, third down eleven. Here comes Night.
Speaker 5 (00:49):
Not to way again, lose, Here comes Lawrence ho he
smokes another touchdown by.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
The same guy. How about that? The same guy and
the same.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
Guy that joins us every Wednesday at five o'clock courtesy
at Twin Peaks Tuck Willa. The same guy with that
same silky smooth voice, The same.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Guy with that unbelievable work ethic.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
Who you heard right there doing the game for CBS
on Sunday with the Seahawks and Cardinals. Our friend Curtesy
at Twin Peaks, Tuck Willa, Kevin Harlan, how are you, pal.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well, just stunned by the pressure from Knight, who was
getting a nice opportunity with some injuries and some shuffling
of the defense. And he's the one who jarred it
free both times. He really, you know, it's not that
big a deal, I guess to grab a loose ball
and have an entourage follow you.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Into the end zone.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
But it does see a lot about night Right that
he got in there twice injured, that ball free and
then Lawrence being so alert, you know, vacuumed it in
took it in twice. You just don't see that very often.
And they smoked them, I mean they smoked them in everywhere.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
It was.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Good teams do that, and they're a good team. They're
I'm almost you never like to say it halfway through
the story, but they're elite. I mean, the quarterback is
at another level. They're running the ball well defensively, you know,
Darnold told us a real interesting thing he said. He say,
you know what is making me more calm is that
(02:28):
I know that I don't have to do things outside
of our offense because they can count so much on
the defense. I don't have to I don't have to
worry about that, I don't have to press, I don't
have to feel like I've got to make things happen
because our defense has been so good and that is
making him and I think the offense more at ease.
(02:49):
And it showed. I mean they're up thirty five zip.
I mean they smoked them. And so everything is hitting
now for this team, which is great.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
Well, I love it, and I love that you were
on the call Sunday. First of all, let me just
say thanks on behalf of all basketball fans for acknowledging
the passing of Lenny Wilkins during the game on Sunday. Man,
that meant a lot to a lot of people. So
thanks for doing that. Number one, and then and then
number two. You mentioned Sam Darnold by the way there,
and it's funny because you know, look, he's a guy
(03:18):
that's among the elite right now, numbers wise, of the NFL.
But I feel like there's a lot of people out
there that are waiting for him to fall apart.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Like Steven A was on ESPN the other day Kevin,
and he's.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Talking about, well, you know, you gotta wait and see
what happens come playoff time.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
And I'm thinking to myself.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Does he have like a four or five game playoff
sample where we can go back and look at data
that shows No, it's only just a one game in
his whole career.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
I mean, are we.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Pigeonholding this guy as a playoff failure before he's even
had a chance to get his feet wet come postseason.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I think what maybe is guiding that comment from some
of the national people is that the week before or
late in the season, they played at Detroit and he
didn't look good then either. And then the next game
was the game in Arizona because they moved because the Fires,
and that was against the Rams and it was not
(04:14):
a good night. I think, quite frankly, that it was
the parts around him, with the vikings that put him
in a different kind of position failed him. More or less,
that could happen to any quarterback. I mean, you're relying
on so many moving parts to fit in sync that
(04:35):
if one goes awry. The other ones are affected. And
the Rams, as you may recall last year when they
did meet in the playoffs, were really hitting their peak.
Their defense was playing extraordinary football. And of all the teams,
the Eagles, who eventually won the Super Bowl played in
the postseason, the Rams gave him a very tough game.
(04:59):
So you know, I would say that they're gonna say
it until he proves him wrong. There's nothing that I saw,
have seen twice now against the Buccaneers and against the
Cardinals that lets me think or leads me to believe
that he will not continually play the way he has
(05:20):
in the regular season. And he's a smart guy. If
there was anything that he was not doing or failed
to do in his mind last year, he'll rectify it.
And I just think I think he's got better parts
around him, quite frankly, even though that Viking team won
fourteen games a year ago.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Yeah, well, he's now twenty one and five.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
I believe it is in his last twenty six games.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
And by the way, you go back to last week,
and I'm certain that you had this during your massive
amount of prep for.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
The Seahawk game on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
By the way, that the Hawks since last year's by
are thirteen and four over the last seventeen games going
back to last year's by. So I'm actually glad that
you saw the game that you did on Monday night
with Philadelphia and Green Bay. I'm trying to try to
figure out who the best team in the NFC is.
I mean, my wife Gina, she's asking me all the time,
who's the best team in the NFC. And I told
(06:13):
her the other day, Kevin, it might be the Seahawks,
and she said, I'm a homer. Am I a homer
if I say the Seahawks are the best team in
the NFC?
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Uh uh no, no, no, no, no, I I could. I
feel as strongly about that Seahawks team as any team
clearly in the NFC, and I might extend that to
the AFC as well. The quarterback is playing great. The
fact that Halani got some carries now they got kind
(06:43):
of a three headed monster there. That was great for
his confidence to get in there and do what he did.
Smith and Jigba is chest. He's at a marvel And
I love Barner, always have liked Barner, and he just
continues to fit. However they're going to use him whether
he's under center running the ball, or whether he's doing
(07:04):
whatever else he's doing. And then defensively to miss the
players that were missing and plug in who they plugged in,
and just see how they're just so coordinated and Mike
is doing a great job with call and the plays,
and it got a couple of guys mentioned it after
the game. They feel so confident in the game plan.
(07:25):
Who's to say the Seahawks are not the best team
in football right now? We've had only two other occasions
where we've gone into a Week ten.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Where's that note I had? I think it was this.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
We've only had two other seasons in the last forty
years of the NFL where we've had Week ten going
into Week ten, where we've had every team with at
least two losses. So there's a lot of parody and
my money and I just finished watching the Eagles on Monday,
(07:58):
and the day before saw the Hawks, and there's nothing
for me to think right now that they are not
the number one overall seed in the NFL. In the
way they're playing now. I don't know if Arizona, I
don't know what their issue was. Well, when you beat
a team, you know thirty five zip to begin it,
and then score forty four points to seal it, and
(08:20):
don't blink the entire game. That tells me all I
need to say. Arizona is a quality. There's quality there.
There really is. The record may not say it, but
there's quality there. And they're feeling really good about themselves
with the win Monday in Dallas. So the Seahawks were
just overpowering. They were just in a steamroll mode. Yeah,
(08:41):
and they got it, and they played a division opponent,
even more importantly, a division opponent. Real well, well, now
they got this weekend which will be fun to watch.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Yeah, no doubt. We'll talk about that in a second.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
But I tell you what, I'm gonna send that entire
clip to my wife because she won't believe me, but
she'll believe me.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
You tell Gina, You tell Gina. She's not a she
knows the game. She sleeps every night with the Wizard,
and and and and and he it's just not him.
Her perception is spot on. And and like we've all
kind of thought going into this weekend, this will tell
(09:18):
us a little bit more about where they are, how
they are, and how they respond with an important divisional game,
and actually an important NFC.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Game, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
Well if you're if you're saying she sleeps with the wizard,
then you must mean our dog, because I sleep on
the couch. Man.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
So I don't know what you're talking.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Well, okay, you know, I know that Idina has told
me otherwise. But you can go on and do and
say whatever you want to say. But but I've talked
to Gina and I know what's going on.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
I get kicked to the couch for the dog. Kevin
Harlan's with us before we get to the Rams game.
On on Sunday, Brian Dable fired with the Giants. Now
they're starting Jamis Winston on Sunday, just totally bypassing Russ
So Wilson I saw where he had ten four games
where he led by ten points or more and he
blew them all and they finally fired him. So what
(10:08):
do you make of the Giants firing Dable middle of
the year and with Jamis just kind of shooting right
past Russell to play this weekend? Is that an even
bigger sign that Russell's days are coming to an end?
Speaker 1 (10:21):
You think, well, I think yeah, I think russ Is
probably is Probably he can see the light. He can
see the end of the story and light at the
end of the tunnel, and that is sad in a
lot of ways. You know, this is this is no
way to end the career. I think he still feels
(10:41):
he's got good football left. I would like to think
there's a coach out there that still believes in that talent.
Maybe goes to the Raiders. I don't know, but I
just think that, you know, it never ends the way
any of these guys wanted to end, right, It never
ends like Manning won a super Bowl. It never ends
(11:02):
that way. That that is the outlier in the in
the story of when careers close, they never end. The
guy gets cut, the guy get injured, he gets traded around, whatever.
But but I think Russ is healthy. I think he
feels he can still play. But if things were eroding
(11:23):
to the point now where they're going with Jamis or
maybe you know, here, here's another thing too. Maybe it's
just saying, here's a guy in Winston who has been
such a good soldier and has just really been a
compliment and a help to our rookie quarterback and a
compliment to our team. We owe him a chance to
start a game. It may be some of that too,
(11:43):
you know what I'm saying. So so I guess I'm
more willing to think that is the story and not
that Russ is finished. But but I begin every conversation
with an aging superstar saying it never ends the way
they want to end, and it.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Never does for any of us.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
We all, well, we all would like to go out
on our terms, and rarely does that happen.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Did you see bad offense or great defense? On Monday
in Green Bay with the Eagles and Packers?
Speaker 1 (12:10):
I saw good defense, and I saw an opportunistic they
were coming off of bye. The Eagles were so they
got the job done. Green Bay's defense played them tough.
Green Bay's in a weird they're in neutral right now.
They can't get out of their own way, and they
can't get out of that neutral gear.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
I think they will.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
They've got too much talent, but they're kind of in
a weird spot right now. For whatever reason, they're not
playing the way we thought they'd play. They're just they're
kind of inexplicable. Quite frankly. The Eagles are as all
good teams do, they find a way, and they found
a way in a big National game on the road,
(12:53):
tough place to play. It was not a pleasant night weatherwise.
It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. It was just kind
of yeah, you know, it's a little chilly, little windy,
and they got the job done. And I think they
hang their hats on that, and they say, we got
a big win against a quality opponent. That was two
first place teams meeting and the Eagles won it. I
(13:14):
think they take the win and they say, that's kind
of what the league is now.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
It's survive in advance, and that's what they did.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Well, we got a big one on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Man.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
I don't know if you've seen the Rams yet this year.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Seven and two versus seven and two, Sofi Stadium. You know,
it usually happens down there when the Rams play a
home game. The place gets infected by the opposing fan base.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
That happens a ton in that stadium.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
I don't know if you did the NFC Championship a
couple of years ago with the Niners and Rams there,
but it was all Niner fans. So we're gonna see
a lot of year game. Yeah, we're gonna see a
lot of Seahawk fans. On Sunday. What do you make
of this matchup? Man on Sunday? This is, as you said,
not just a division, but the entire stinking league.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Yeah no, I.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Think this has has the two I think this right
now that game has the two best teams in the
NFL going at it. I think the first AFC team
that would come into the conversation would be number three.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Or two. A.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Yeah, No, I like these two teams is right now
the two best in Pro football. The record says it,
the performance has said it, the quarterback play has certainly
said it. And I know pel what about the Colts?
What about the colt You know what? Until the Colts,
I'm not quite sold on them yet. And the quarterback
(14:33):
to me, has got to prove himself right through the season,
kind of like I thought for Donald last year. I
thought Donald had to play through the entire season to
say that, Yep, he's proved himself, He's turned the corner.
I got to see a whole season from Daniel Jones.
I'm sorry, that's just kind of how I feel. And
I think that these are the two MVP candidates right now.
With Jonathan Taylor with the Colts, I'd put one two
(14:55):
and three, and I don't know if there's any one
in no particular order. So no, this this these are
the two best teams. It's a shame they've not moved
it and flex yet. But they can't flex yet. I
think we're still a week away, maybe maybe two from
doing that, because this is the game of the week
and and and I really think that that this this
(15:16):
game will and I don't necessarily think that the loser
becomes the team now that has to sit in the
back seat of who's driving the rest of the NFC season.
I just think it's it's you know, it's a it's
a great challenge and and I think both these teams,
win or lose, build upon it. The winner certainly gives
himself a little bravado, little confidence, little little uh kind
(15:39):
of can can kind of get their chest out there
a little bit. But the loser has nothing to feel like, uh,
oh we're in a deep problem. No that that that
is not the case at all. I just think it's
a it's a good test, and I think these are
the two best teams in football going into this week
eleven and a lot can change November and December football
(16:04):
tell you everything, but can also leave a lot of
doors open because some of these matchups get built up.
But to me, this is the best two teams in
football right now.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
Well, Kevin, before you go and we are going to
do where will you be for TV on Sunday in
just a second. But I gotta tell you, man, one
of the more shocking things I've seen all year long
is the Dolphins just kicking the snot out of Buffalo
on Sunday in Miami.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
What the heck is going on with the Bills?
Speaker 5 (16:35):
Because if I would have asked you, you know, two
months ago, hey, here's the best team. Buffalo be on
the list of best teams in the AFC. They can't
get out of their own way. And now there's people
saying is it time to get rid of Sean McDermott.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Well, and it's saying the same thing about Matt Lafleur
up in Green Bay. Yeah, I mean, I mean, it's
just my gosh, just the impatience of fans and you
know what, I get it, And that's why they and
and they can have their opinion.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
It is such a week to week league.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I'm telling you, Like who comes out of the Hawks
Rams game the winner or loser either way, but the
narrative is going to be this is the team that
right now is going to Super Bowl, you know, And
and the loser.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
I knew they were a paper tiger. I knew they
didn't have the depth. I knew they couldn't get it done,
and and over reaction.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
It is week to week and and so I'm not
going to get too high or too low on a
team like Buffalo. But that was that was a pretty
stunning result, even though it was on the road. Buffalo
has lost the last couple of years down. They're not
the last couple maybe the last two of the last
three down in Miami. I don't know what it was,
(17:46):
but they they they they exhaled and it showed. And
maybe Miami was riding a little high with the change
in the UH in the football leadership, with Greer being
fired and let go by the Dolphin owner. So let's
we'll keep tabs on Buffalo. They got they got a
lot there. Yeah, but like a lot of these teams,
there are no perfect teams. They've all got two plus losses. Uh.
(18:09):
But this game, I'll go back to it again, Rams
Hawks to me, two best teams in football colliding on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
I love that all right, before you go, it's time.
Where will Kevin be for TV on Sunday? I'm gonna
guess that. And I can just feel you grinding your
teeth by the way in the back. I'm gonna guess.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
I'm gonna you know, it's one thing for you to
say it, right, But then when you go through security
at Sea Jack and and and the guy will look
at my name and look at me and look at
my name and then look up at me.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
He goes, why is that.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Guy you're on with all the time on KGr who
like like and you're so right? Nobody cares. So even
the TSA guy said it to me on Sunday night.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
But that's okay.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
The fact, the fact that this makes you this worked
up is why I keep doing it. By the way,
just so you know, I'm gonna guess that Jim and
Tony are gonna be doing the Chief Bronco game, and
I'm gonna guess that you are doing Buffalo Tampa in Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
Am I right?
Speaker 1 (19:07):
You're wrong again. You're wrong every day, You're wrong, every right,
every week we do.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
This's the game.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
The stupid exercise of yours I'm We're in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
We're gonna see the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Oh god, all right, yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Then got to go to watch Vegas after that. That's
gonna be with the with the way, the ATC and
every all these flights are. It's anybody's guests if we'll
even get there. But that's that's what we are on Monday.
That's what we are on Monday.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
All right, you got you got Pittsburgh this weekend.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Who are they playing again?
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Pittsburgh Sunday, Pittsburgh CINCIDNA. But I gotta I got an
NBA game in San Antonio Friday. Oh here you go,
all right, San Antonio, Pittsburgh, Vegas.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
And that's on Amazon Friday night.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
It's on Amazon.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
You know, I hate to ask this because you think
I would know. Is this your first Amazon game Friday?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
No, it's a second, got a second. I've only done one.
I've only done one by design. They've been really good
to me about cutting back my schedule, which I had
to have and I wanted to and so anyway, yeah,
so I'm just doing that Friday and fly up to
Pittsburgh on Saturday, then out to Vegas Sunday night, and
then back home on Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
All Right, Well, I'm your biggest fan and I'll be
watching Friday night.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Are you are you really really.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
Sit there with my foam finger just getting.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
You know what, I'm your biggest thing.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Go Kevin go is socky go. We'll talk in a week.
See you man.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Thanks pal.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
All Right, Kevin Harlan with us. He's got Steelers Bengals.
He's got an NBA game on Amazon on Friday, and
then Cowboys Raiders from Vegas on Monday Night football. We're
gonna break a lot more to get to on a
busy Wednesday right here on ninety three to three KJRFM
