Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Monday friend. Welcome to the thought shower,
fresh off of what was my chewy forever weekend, Let's
get into it. So we did three shows, one on Friday,
then two on Saturday, and it's always nerve racking. The
first show the tour is always nerve racking because I
(00:23):
don't try the jokes out on live audiences before I
deal on stage. So this particular show, I think I
probably started writing in February March May probably March. I
think I try to start writing in February, but just
couldn't quite get done. So Friday, did the show, did
(00:46):
the morning show, took uh, went back to my house,
went with Skatalsic a little walk, and then like I
had all the merch, so I had like ten boxes
of merch. I got to the venue, we got to
the hotel, got to the venue around three o'clock, load
of merge, went back to the hotel and then that's
like the worst part of a show day is there's
(01:07):
a lot of time to kill and at the same
time I'm doing everything. Like most artists, most comedians, they
have like a tour manager and so everything is set
up right. So if I was you know, Shane Gillis,
I doubt does sound check. If I was a betting man,
If Shane Gillis has a show at seven pm at
(01:28):
Capitol One, he could probably get to the venue at
six forty five and begin to go, you know what
I mean. I just don't have that, mainly because it
saves money to not have that. So went back to
the hotel, try to relax a little bit. Got back
to the venue around like four thirty. I think doors
open at six thirties. I was there basically two hours early.
And when I get there, it's just like making sure
(01:51):
everything's set up right, making sure the merchant is set up,
making sure that's good to go, doing the sound check,
and then I just kind of have peace, I guess,
being alone because once we get close to showtime, I mean,
any question goes through me because it's it's me, so
I tell I want this done, this done, this done.
So it's nice to have a couple of moments of
(02:12):
like just alone. And it was nice. You walk into
the theater and the image for the comedy shows was
the photo of myself, Chewy and Skittles looking at the
screen of me and Chewey and to see that on
the big screen inside the Arlington Draft House was emotional.
(02:33):
Obviously I'd seen the image before on my phone, I
had seen on the merch, but the see on the
screen was emotional anyhow, because Chewie's been in that venue.
You know, if he was still here in like doing
a show with me, he would have been there as soundcheck.
And I brought his bed there too, so it was
it was It was very nice to feel like he
(02:54):
was there with us. You know. The first show again,
it's very nerve wracking, and for me, at least, the
first joke is how I know how the show's gonna go,
Like if they laugh at the first joke, we got
a chance at a good show. And so I was
getting really emotional pretty much starting on two pm Friday
(03:17):
on because I knew I was gonna talk about Chewy.
I was gonna do the Chewy song, updated version, and
I was like, God, hopefully I can just keep it together.
And the beginning the show went really well. First of all,
D and Kyle to amazing Sauce killed it. Thanks the
funniest I've seen Shelby b And then I ain't necessarily
(03:37):
get nervous, but again it's it's a very vulnerable thing
to get up on the stage in front of people,
tell jokes you think is funny, and then too to
talk about the subject matter of losing Chewy. I mean,
I told the story on not really the story on
the air, but you know, made the announcement on the air,
and that's a little bit different because again it's just
(03:57):
me in a room. You can feel tension, you know.
So I had Chewy's bet on stage the entire show,
and then it came time to talk about Chewy and
I could feel the energy shift in the building almost
where people. I knew it was coming. But then, like
you know, it's a very tough thing to talk about.
(04:18):
But it went really well, It really did. That first
show was amazing, getting a chance to do the Chewy
and Skittles song. It was the first time doing it
without him, which was very difficult, but was very good.
So that first show was a lot of fun. Went
to hide afterwards. Day two yeah, again, it's like if
(04:41):
this was a normal show. This is a tour, right,
And so day two, the first show was at six thirty,
doors open at five thirty, like I would have gone
to like if we were in Cincinnati, I would have
gone to like the zoo or something like that. I
wanted to go to a movie, but again, like the timing,
I'm like, I probably should be available and came. Something
goes wrong, YadA, YadA, YadA. Second shows come around and uh,
(05:05):
very good Saucea's grandma and aunt came to the shows.
That was exciting. Had a bunch of radio friends come
to the show. My good friend DJ Rice came to
the second show. I'm a good friend Ryan came to
the first show. Good friend Ryan came the first show,
Bourbon Ryan came. It was very cool to have people
that you know, I support and appreciate come out and
(05:25):
watch and to see the whole the whole production, if
you will. It's a very emotional weekend. It's a very
draining weekend, and I knew it would be. You know,
I think it's when you have loss. Even just having
people say they're sorry can be emotionally taxing. Although it's
(05:47):
amazing to hear and I appreciate it, but I knew,
like we do the meet and great for the show,
I knew like that was gonna be emotionally taxing because
people are gonna say very nice things and and I
taxing in a bad way, just kind of you know,
it's an odd like the I've said this a four
in the air. The reason we love doing shows in
(06:08):
senior public is because otherwise it's us in the room
by ourselves, and we get numbers. How my listeners we have,
but that's not the same as seen you in person.
And to see you in person and to see how
much show we meant to a bunch of people was.
It was very powerful. It was very moving. You know.
(06:32):
I got so many gifts as well, and it was perfect.
Like I think, as far as shows go, those are
easily you know, I can't think of any shows better
off the top of my head for sure than those
three shows are my top five. It was amazing. And
again I don't want to do I believe in the
(06:55):
higher power. Yeah, do I think the higher power is
more important things that we do on the weekend than
my comedy shows. Yes, But it did just feel like
we had I don't know if she was up there
with me, I'm not positive. It just kind of felt
like nothing went wrong. Everything went right, the jokes went right,
and you know, to me, I had mentioned this before
(07:17):
in previous podcasts. I think that's the end. I have
no plans of ever doing comedy again. Yeah. I think
when I first started comedy, we did it because we're
raising money for Fisher House, because our good friend Mimi,
who was battling cancer, and like that was like the
reason to do the shows originally, and because obviously fisherrowse
(07:39):
fantastic group of people, like no doubt. And then you know,
last year did the one off shows after a breakout,
and this year was really just because of Chewy, And
I think that we did what we came to do.
Certainly I didn't and I think that, yeah, when something's good,
don't fix it. I don't know if that could have
gone any better than it did. And so I'm very
(08:01):
proud of that. Of those shows, it means a lot
that you came those shows. If you did, if you
did not, or if you want to get merch, there's
still Merchinternsoncomedy dot Com benefit the Warrior Canine Connection. It
was a special weekend. And again to see how much
show we meant to a bunch of people is something
I'll never forget and I appreciate too. We have folks
(08:22):
come in from the Carolinas, Folks come in from Colorado.
It's very cool to see just how big the show
family is and just to know that the work that
we do means something and has an impact. And you know,
my favorite photo from this weekend and it's on my
(08:43):
Instagram right now. When the shows are over on Saturday,
I was about to leave with Skittles and it's just
me and holding Chewy's bed with Skittles on stage, just
staring at the photo the tour poster. And I don't
really remember what I was thinking in that photo. I
know it looks staged, it's not, but just kind of
(09:07):
taking it all in. And that's the one thing I
really wanted to do with this weekend of shows is
really just take it all in and realize what we
were doing, who were doing it for. So I can't
thank you enough again. If you want to get merch
the Merchants, Fire Internsjooncomedy dot Com. See you Wednesday,
