K IF I am six forty yearslater with Moe Kelly. We're live everywhere
on the iHeartRadio app and coming upon tonight's show, we'll get into some
of the audio surrounding UCLA Chancellor GeneBlock, and there were other university presidents,
but specifically Block. He did nothave a real good day up on

(00:43):
Capitol Hill as he was grilled bymembers of Congress. And you know,
if you should ever get an invitationto come speak or answer questions before Congress,
it's a TV show, it's aproduction. It's for grand standing,
it's to beat you up. Andalso for these politicians to get news clips

(01:04):
where they can be seen yelling at, talking down to berating whoever that person
is those open door hearings. AndI got into a very it was a
respectful discussion with someone who had hitme on Instagram at later with mo Kelly
in the direct message and was asking, well, why is it Congress is

(01:26):
not doing the same thing with LaMetro And I had to explain very politely,
well, Congress doesn't have any jurisdictionover university presidents. Congress doesn't have
any jurisdiction over La Metro. Thesehearings are for public grand standing. That's
it. It's not like they canturn around and say, Chancellor Block,

(01:49):
you're fired. Now. They can'tdo that. Now they can try to
make the case that they'll withdraw somefederal funds in the next round of budget
discussions, but they can't really doanything to the universities other than embarrass the
presidents put public pressure on them tosuch a degree that one or some may

(02:12):
have to turn around and resign, but they don't have any direct power over
them, nor the metro. Goingback to my conversation I had with someone
on social media, we're going toget into that audio probably next segment.
Airbnb, and I've never been reallyhigh on Airbnb, but we'll talk about
how Airbnb has been evolving in recentyears. Let's say you and five of

(02:37):
your friends decided to get an Airbnbhouse out close to Coachella, and you
turn that into a party house, and you decided to trash it or something
else. Even worse, well,Airbnb is going to shut all of that
down, so you won't be ableto have these types of what they're calling
disruptive parties over holiday weekends like MemorialDay weekend. Coming up, or later

(02:59):
on in the summer, the fourthof July. And also, is there
such a thing as social media etiquette? I think so. I think social
media etiquette is an extension of ourinterpersonal etiquette. I always tell people,
do not come at me on socialmedia any differently than how you would come

(03:19):
at me in person. If youtalk to me like we're on the street,
then I'm going to respond to youlike we're on the street. If
you talk to me like you havesome modicum of respect for me, then
we could have a conversation, alegitimate conversation. But if you come at
me sideways, Mark, you bettertell them, you better tell them.
Listen. Social media is like WestWorld. You get to be the heel

(03:43):
as much as you want, andnobody even has to know who we are,
right right. There are no consequences, and there there's really no social
tax because you're allowed to be anonymousand say all the things that you would
love to say, and you havea degree of certainty that the other person
will see it or read it.You get that sort of sick satisfaction.

(04:06):
And I'm not the one. Theydon't know Toualla like I do. He's
not the one either, And theydon't know you either, Bark, You're
not the one, but they knowme and they know how to find me,
so they usually send that stuff myway. And what is that at,
mister mo Kelly? Where again? Please? I'm just trying to kind
of support you and support the showyou are instigating as you always do well.

(04:30):
People need accurate information. That's whyI'm here. Mo oh speaking of
accurate information. Oh that was good. But if I didn't know any better,
I think you were trying to changethe subject. No, no,
no, we can come back tomy social media just a moment, which
is which is what? By theway, at later with mo Kelly on

(04:53):
Instagram, I'm gonna write that down, thank you. At later with spell
out the word elle a tour withw I t H. You know I'm
spelling everything like that, key andpeel sketch now block a l tour tour

(05:15):
wife mochally. Yeah. So isit going to be raining on my weekend?
It may get you a little moisttonight, mo some drizzle tonight,
maybe a little drizzled tomorrow. Youready for this? It depends. If
I don't have to do anything afterthe show tomorrow night, it won't matter
well, then I got some badnews for you. What's that where we

(05:36):
have plans tomorrow night and we wenton a date. I don't think either
Tuala or I appreciate you pretending toforget about our plan? But what do
we do? What? Foush iscirculating here somewhere too, His feelings are
probably heard as what are we doingtomorrow night? After the show? We're
going to see Mad Max Furiosa? No, it's Furiosa a Mad Max story.
It's a different movie, so beclear. Oh, I stand corrected.

(05:57):
I guess you don't have to gonow. I do not put that
out there. Don't put that outthere. His ticket is bought. What
does that have to do with meshowing up? Be there? Hey,
Mark, you gonna buy me adrink? I don't think I've ever seen
you drink? And can we gethim at the movie? Yeah? Yeah,
well the one we usually go to. Yeah yeah, they have a

(06:18):
bar area. So what is itlike buying a drink at a ball game?
Like eighteen bucks for a beer orsomething. That's not my problem.
You're buying it, that's not myconcern. Wait, details don't matter.
I don't like the direction this isgoing in but this is news to me
that you could have a drink witha movie, So I'm at least happy
on that front. Yeah, tobe serious, most movie theaters now they're

(06:38):
using that as a way to competewith the home environment. When I went
to Snopolis in Inglewood, first classservice, they bring the food to your
seat. They have a full onbar, separate and distinct from the movies.
You can go just to the bar, or you can go to the
bar, get your drinks and takethem into the movies. They're trying to

(07:00):
make it as comfortable and convenient aspossible, except it's costing as much as
a student loan, though right,I wouldn't say that. I mean,
look, Mark, if you're tryingto get like penny beer, I don't
know what it is, uh we'regonna do, but it's a nice bar,
okay. My one concern is thatit's gonna be a midnight movie.
Its two and a half hours.Add alcohol to that, and think of

(07:24):
all the annoyances we already have usuallywhen we go to a movie, from
people talking to having their phones out, people being dilligerent. I think we're
gonna have to be ready to mixit up. Oh you think we have
to throw down. Well, Ijust think we have to be ready.
Chance favors the prepared mind. Ithink Louis Pastewart said that so. But
I mean, we've been to thismovie theater several times. We've never seen

(07:45):
anyone just tying one over and gettingdrunk. Okay, all right, well
just look, I'm not trying toget drunk. I mean, you know,
I want to enjoy the movie andI also have to drive home.
I'm just saying I said you're gonnabuy me a drink. I didn't say
you were going to buy me five. Oh you're not getting five out of
me? I don't think. Idon't think the uh the credit Union will

(08:05):
have you getting five a drinks outof me. The sag after Federal Credit
Union might have something to say aboutthis. No, I'll get five.
You'll just have to stay around andmaybe wash dishes or something. Where the
hell is this coming from? Becausewho does what? Because you brought my
social social media into this, Wellthat's to help. You need people to
know where to contact the host ofthe show at mister mo Kelly whatever dot

(08:30):
com at later Later with Mokelly onInstagram at gasbag dot com. You figured
it out, and we're office Laterwith mo Kelly camp I AM six forty.
We're live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. When we come back, we'll
get into the latest events on UCLA'scampus and also the u c l A
Chancellor on Capitol Hill. You're listeningto Later with Mo Kelly on demand from

(08:56):
KFI AM sixty. And some mightbe wondering. Maybe you're wondering, why
is it the protests are still goingon or a new round of protests have
started at UCLA pro Palestinian protests,a new encampment, even a building was
occupied on UCLA's campus, Like, why is it going on at UCLA and

(09:20):
seemingly only at UCLA. Well, remember it's about leverage against graduation. UCLA
has not had the commencement yet.Theirs is not until June fourteenth, if
I'm not mistaken. Their term isnot over for another two and a half
weeks. That's why UCLA is stilla focal point. I can't speak to

(09:41):
how many of these protesters are actuallystudents, but I see why UCLA is
still a focal point because there's actuallyclasses to interrupt, their school business to
interrupt, and you might have seensome of the physical skirmishes on TV today
between protesters and law enforcement, andthat was the backdrop for the UCLA Chancellor

(10:09):
Gene Block. While that was happeninghere in Westwood, he was in Washington,
d C. Having to answer forthe previous protests, the previous encampments,
how law enforcement was used or maybenot use well in handling that to
minimize the amount of violence as itwere between some of the protesters who were

(10:35):
attacked by anti protesters, or whathappened when the police finally did move in,
and how they waited for hours andhours on end. We covered that
live here at KFI AM six fortyas it was happening well into the night
and had to wait until the morning. So Chancellor Block went before Congress.
He and other university presidents were calledin to answer for how they were handling

(10:58):
these protests, the rise of antiSemitism on these campuses, and as I
was telling other people, these aren'tabout solutions these hearings, They're about embarrassing
whoever is there to answer questions. They're about being berated. They're about sound
bites and clips where Congress people canuse for fundraising and they can go back

(11:22):
to their districts and say, see, I was hard on these individuals,
I am against anti Semitism in thiscase, or they will say I am
pro Palestinian protester, or they getto blame someone. That's the whole point
of having these public congressional hearings, not just with this issue. Any issue.
Nothing's going to happen. The onlything that can happen is if there's

(11:46):
enough negative press. These university presidentsmay resign, as we've seen you Pen
their president resign, Harvard It's presidentresign, and others have resigned because of
the free speech debate and campus protestdebate which is going on all around the
nation. Here are just a coupleof clips of UCLA Chancellor Gene Block having

(12:07):
to respond to the questions and morelike comments and opinions of Congress. Mister
Bean, you're recognized for five minutes. Thank you very much, Mountam Cherry,
Good morning you, and good morningcommittee gentlemen. Thank you so much
for being here. I know it'sa big deal to run a university,
and I was just making a listof all the things you have to do

(12:30):
running a university, including recruiting applicantsto go to your school, hiring professors
and staff, running the plant, raising money, promoting your school, you
would think on that list, whichis a very long list, you would
think at the very very top iskeeping students, staff and faculty safe on

(12:52):
your university. Why we're questioning whereyou put that on? Is there a
question anywhere in this on your list? Because we see lack of consequences.
We see the answer is always it'sunder investigation, or we put that group
on double secret probation, which reallyisn't holding anybody accountable. Chancellor Block.

(13:13):
On November fifteenth, twenty twenty three, a Jewish UCLA professor and her husband
went to a counter protest at aUCLA Students for Justice in Palestin rally.
Is there a question? Palistin rallywearing pro Israel T shirts. They heard
students chant slaughter the Jews in Arabic, and we're threatened by students who said
we will find you, we willtake care of you. The next day

(13:35):
at UCLA graduate student from the rallystalctor husband at his office. Two weeks
later, is there a question anywherein this? Later, more and more
hatred and anti semitism, including garbagetop with a swastika and the words loudmouth
jew were left outside the doorstop allthis was reported to you and other UCLA

(13:56):
officials, including the identity of who'sdoing it. What disciplinary actions did UCLA
take in response? Finally, thankyou for the question. We immediately alerted
the police, and the police didan investigation, and I think that I
don't know if that's ongoing or not, but police were involved immediately in this
incident. Did anybody get kicked offcampus? And anybody They don't know what

(14:18):
the oudent was, but they wereimmediately. Police were immediately notified of this
issue and interviewed individuals and attempted toidentify was responsible. On November twenty eighth,
mass protesters cutting down hostage posters, threatened and chased a Jewish student while
brandishing knives. They chased them oncampus. The incident was reported to police
and to UCLA officials. Can youtell us what disciplinary action including anybody get

(14:43):
kicked off campus? Did anybody getexpelled? I don't know in that particular
case, but the police were notifiedand the attempted to identify these individuals holding
the knives so you could see, gentlemen, this is why we question where
it is in the list because wesee the videos. We see every and
we just we meet with students whosay that it's and we see the video
just now. It breaks my heart. You can't even go to class,

(15:09):
see what I mean. It's notactually an exchange of information. It's just
grandstanding and proselytizing for the most part. Here is Congresswoman Ilhem Omar with her
questions. This happened in front ofyour eyes, on your campus, and
it was live streamed for the wholeworld to see. So I would like

(15:33):
to know if you are truly committedto keeping your students safe? How did
you fail these students at many criticalpoints where you could have intervened. Thank
you for the question, but Ireally I'm sorry, but I reject the
premise these students. How do youobject the premise? Are these pictures lying?

(15:54):
Are these pictures? Are any ofthese people in jail? Can I
finish my statement? No? Areany of these people in jail? Are
any of these people arrested? Youask the question and can I finish?
And said no? No, whereyou could have intervened. Thank you for
the question, but I really I'msorry, but I reject the premise these
students. How do you reject thepremise are these pictures lying? Are these

(16:18):
pictures? Are any of these peoplein jail? Can I finish my statement?
No? Are any of these peoplein jail? Are any of these
people arrested? LAPD is working ontrying to identify the people who are sealings
that evening. We were committed tofinding out the people. It's been over
a month. I submit for therecord an article that starts the CNN has

(16:41):
produced without objection. Why did younot immediately send the police that we're standing
by your campus police law enforcement tointervene. We tried, We notified as

(17:02):
soon as we saw the violence,We notified all agour nutral aid partners.
We tried to get policed there asquickly as possible. But going back to
my original point, so this encampmentwas against policy. This violated check place
time place. If I made thefootage from that night reveals that some of
the most dramatic attacks were carried outby individuals not affiliated with UCLA, not

(17:26):
the university students faculty that were arrested. Why have the violent agitators who you
know have been identified not been heldaccountable for assaulting over one hundred and fifty
of your students, you should beashamed. So you get the general idea.

(17:48):
It was about grand standing, it'sabout finger pointing. It was about
most importantly embarrassing the various university presidents, in this case Chancellor Genie Block.
Nothing changes other than if UCLA isalso embarrassed the university feels that there needs
to be a change because of thenegative press, then they'll force Chancellor Gene

(18:11):
Block to retire. And he saidat the beginning of the proceedings that he
was close to retirement anyhow, hehad been there in that position for about
seventeen years. Don't be surprised ifhe should up and retire in the next
month or so. It's Later withmo Kelly. We have an Airbnb update.
On the other side, no partyin over this Memorial Day weekend,
or at least connected to Airbnb. That's next CAFI AM six forty Live everywhere

(18:36):
on the iHeartRadio app. You're listeningto Later with Moe Kelly on demand from
KFI AM six forty. I admitI love technology. I love the algorithms
which are used to power apps likeAirbnb, Uber, Left, so forth.

(18:57):
But I was very slow on theuptick very cautious, not so sure,
suspicious even It took me about ayear before I even got with the
whole Uber thing, the idea ofgetting into random people's cars with random drivers,
and especially in the beginning, becausefrom what I had heard, they

(19:18):
weren't getting a lot of information. It wasn't necessarily a lot of quality control
with Uber, So it took mea while to get used to Uber.
Now I think it's greatful. WhenI am traveling from city to city,
I know I can get from theairport to the hotel or wherever else.
No real issue. Love Uber still, I have my reservations, no pun

(19:40):
intended, but I love Uber.Airbnb not so much. I never could
really get with Airbnb. I alwayshad a problem with going into someone's house,
someone's room, and renting it.You don't have the quality control of
a hotel. You don't have thatdegree of certainty. If I have a

(20:03):
problem, from what I've heard, sometimes you do a lot of backflips to
have that problem resolved. It's notlike you can just call someone and say,
hey, can you bring up someextra towels. No, you can't
do that. So Aaron bab Ihad a different type of relationship with but
I can't say this. There wasa family get together that my family had
about I'm wanna say maybe three fouryears ago, and we got a house

(20:27):
out near Coachella. It was likeacross the street from the Coachella grounds,
but it was like a little bigmansion, five bedrooms or some might have
even been six. Pool It wasgreat for our family to spend a couple
of days there. It was offseason, so it was real easy to
get but I never felt completely comfortable. I felt like there had to be

(20:48):
in cameras everywhere. The experience wasfine, but I don't know if my
privacy, our collective privacy was respectedbecause it was a nice house, because
I'm probably worried about it if wewant to tear up the house, if
we're going to damage anything, whichbrings me to this. Airbnb is tired
of people, renters, customers tearingup properties on high traffic weekends like Memorial

(21:18):
Day weekend and the Fourth of Julyweekend. So here in California at least,
Airbnb has announced its anti party system, and this is not the first
year that they're doing it. Infact, they did it last year.
But they're really really advertising it andmaking sure that folks like you and me
we know about it. Their antiparty system is in effect for both Memorial

(21:41):
Day weekend coming up and July fourthweekend in California. No parties quote.
We have measures in place to helpidentify and prevent reservations that are potentially higher
risk for safety and property damage incidentslike unauthorized parties. Airbnb put that smack

(22:02):
dab in the center of their websitesimilar initiatives on Memorial Day and fourth of
July last year. This is,according to Airbnb, helped deter some ninety
three hundred people in California from bookingan entire home listing just like what my
family did, including one thousand peoplein LA and an estimated five hundred and
fifty people in San Diego. Theautomated system assesses reservation guests and looks at

(22:26):
a range of factors, including thetiming of the reservation, prior reservation and
guest history, and whether recent messagethread topics indicate red flags. This is
not going to impact me at all, because when I travel, I'm just
going to go ahead and stay ata traditional, boring, run of the
mill hotel. I know exactly whatI'm getting and for the most part there

(22:52):
aren't any surprises, and if thereare surprises, I know exactly what I
need to do and how to reachsomeone to get it handled immediately. Mark,
are you an airbnb type person? No? And I gotta tell you,
isn't some of the appeal of goingto a hotel the fact that you
can be a dirty pig? TheseAirbnb arrangements sound so anal retentive. Why
would you want to stay at aplace like that where you got to clean

(23:15):
up after yourself, you can't havea party. What's the point? I
don't know. I don't know.Go ahead, Stefan, you got something
to say about this, mister uber. So in the beginning, it was
cheaper than a hotel, and thatwas the draw. But then all these
things started happening, with all themesses like what you're talking about, and
they started just adding you know, cleaning charge, fixing charge, this charges,

(23:38):
so it became as much as ahotel and it defeats the purpose.
So to Mark's point, yeah, just go to a hotel. You know,
right there, If you can't actlike Mick Jagger when you're out for
a weekend, why bother? Lookwhen I go to a hotel. I
want to know that there's gonna besome buffet breakfast waiting for me downstairs.
I need to know that someone's goingto come clean up the room when I

(24:00):
leave, if I want to leave, If I if I want some extra
towels, I know I can callor just go get them myself, or
steal them off the cart in thehallway. Yeah, leave your bet on
made, leave a towel on thebathroom floor. You're on vacation. Come
on, that's what you're paying for. That's what I want, and at
least I know that's exactly what I'mgetting. I don't like unknowns when I'm
traveling or I'm dealing with lodging.Does that include webcams? Well, look,

(24:26):
I assume that in some of thesehotels they have cams as well,
probably hidden in events or whatever. And it's just my feeling, and I
can't back this up with anything rightnow, but it's my feeling that you're
more vulnerable to webcams in an airbnbbecause it's somebody's place. Yes, yes,
because yeah, they are personally investedin what happens to their furniture,

(24:48):
belongings, whatever may be in thatspot. Absolutely one hundred Stefan looks like
he wants to say so, no, one hundred percent, Like I would
be so paranoid that you know thatstatue in the corner or that little marble
thing on the counter has a camerainside. You have no idea. Yeah,
it's like you're in a Russian hotelroom. You just better not do

(25:10):
anything that you don't want the politbureauto see or something. Well, I
just assume that there is a camerabehind that two way mirror in the bathroom.
I just assume that. And Iwould rather deal with my insecurities in
a hotel environment as opposed to Mark'sAirbnb mcmanson, Yeah, you're less likely
to have to deal with some sortof Norman baits in a regular old hotel.

(25:33):
Yeah, not guaranteed, but lesslikely, less likely. You're listening
