over ten thousand recommended dollars. Tyrat dot com. The way
tire buying should be. Hey, welcome in Hope. You're having
a great day. The Doug Gottlieb Show broadcasting from both
Green Bay and Southern California. And I can only tell
you it feels like Southern California and Green Bay today

(00:45):
sixty three to get your ease. Not a cloud in
the sky, the ice is melting. Spring is here and
with spring brings us free agency in the NFL and
Sam Donald has yet another home. What a weekend for
the Seattle Seahawks. Right locket gone, You trade away your

(01:08):
your your two star wide receivers and Gino Smith gone too,
and it was the what are the Seahawks doing? Are
they tanking? No, wait, we're gonna go and get Sam
or Darnold and apparently kind of refresh our team. And
it's three years, one hundred million dollars, which again that
the full details will come out, but probably means it's

(01:28):
like a two year deal, which means they'll draft somebody
and develop them to ultimately take over for Sam while
giving him yet another opportunity. And again it's right along
the lines of what we thought financially, right, three at
one hundred is you know, somewhere in the thirty three
million dollars a year, not crazy money, but also not

(01:49):
rookie money. And then you have the Pittsburgh Steelers who
load up with another star wide receiver, yet we don't
know who their quarterback is going to be since now
just Fields as a member of the New York Jets,
and that is two years, forty million is starting starting
quarterback numbers for the New York Jets. Mean the Jets,
that's their plan, right, probably the same thing, draft a guy,

(02:12):
develop him. Justin Fields is your guy in the meantime,
and if Justin Fields becomes what he was drafted to be.
Going back to his days in Chicago, Well, then you
only wasted a second or third or fourth round pick
out a quarterback. That's what I love about the NFL
is free agency, oftentimes for shadows what you're gonna do
in the NFL draft. Not always, but oftentimes for shadows

(02:35):
what you're gonna do in the NFL draft. What a
fascinating day, fascinating day, alf a fascinating weekend in the NFL.
Tractor Supply knows that a winning season takes practiced team working,
a can do attitude. Thankfully, when you have a neighbor
like Tractors Supply, teamwork comes easy. Whether you're caring for pets, chickens,

(02:56):
or few acres, our team members will help you succeed
season after seat. He's in Tractor Supply for life out here. Okay,
So what this does is one, it gives us a
snapshot into what the Seahawks hope to become. But two,
now it makes us way more interested on what happens
with the Raiders and the Steelers. Right, the Raiders went

(03:19):
and got Geno Smith, which is kind of odd, but
it makes sense. Right, is the guy who brought him
to Seattle and had success with him is now coach
for him. All right, that, I guess makes sense. I'm
sure they'll do the same thing, try and have a
young guy who can improve and eventually take over for Gino.
And then Pittsburgh is the team that is most likely

(03:46):
you would think to pursue Aaron Rodgers, isn't it Or
is it Minnesota that pursues Aaron Rodgers? And Aaron Rodgers
to Minnesota. It's like, Okay, are we really doing the
Brett Favre thing all over again? I just again, I
look at this thing and I'm fascinated by what's next.

(04:07):
I don't have any sort of predictor analysis because I
couldn't have predicted that Sam Donald signs a three year,
one hundred point five million dollar contract. But now that
I know that that's done, now I'm getting Now, I'm
now I'm interested. Now you have my attention. Now you
have my attention. You know the Rams get what DeVante

(04:31):
Adams So we knew he wanted to be on the
West coast, and that means that h Cooper Cooper Cup
is definitely still you know, available and on the move.
Now that he's been replaced. Like we're getting We've gotting
a lot of answers about things, which leads to some
new questions but really really makes it interesting. Man, I

(04:57):
did not see Donald to the Seahawks, but then again,
I didn't see Geno to the Raiders either. Buyer, you're
a resident Seahawks fan. But that's good because he's he's out,
he's taking a break, he's taking a breather. Ilo, You're
watching all these things come down the pipe, you know.

(05:20):
I love that the Seahawks resigned Chris Godwin. Of course
it's freshop an injury. I'm sure that decreased the value
of that deal. But it looks like the Buccaneers are like, hey,
this is what we're going with. As is Seahawks massive change.
It leaves the Vikings with do they go with J. J. McCarthy, Probably,

(05:42):
but do they add an Aaron Rodgers for a year
to try and go for it all? Don't know? Or
is it the Steelers. What's the most surprising thing of
the weekend for you?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Elo, Well, first of all, the reason Dan is not
here he is actually working the lear jet flight for
Sam Donald to Seattle.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
I don't think he loves Sam Darnald. I think if
we checked in with him, I'm not sure he's a
I'm not sure if he's a Donald fan.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
As much as I have a good point, perhaps he is.
He is in tears as we speak. What's fascinating to
me is the whole domino effect of it. And I'd
actually really like to get your take in particular, because
even though he's been gone for a couple of years,
you're soaking up the green and gold culture where you are.

(06:30):
For a team like the Vikings, is it worth Aaron
Rodgers or anybody? Is it worth Aaron Rodgers because of
the circus that he will bring to town that might
be buyers right now, by the way, buyer right now,
by the way. The circus effect is that enough to
scare some teams off in your opinion.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I mean,
if he goes to Minnesota, obviously that would be just
like so Harve, wouldn't it. It would just be like, Wow,
this is so weird. And they're two very different people,
two very different careers, two very different styles or whatever,

(07:11):
but gosh, that would be weird. And with with Pittsburgh, yeah,
I don't know. I mean, obviously they tried, you know,
they've they've lived on. They had an old quarterback past
his prime in a big ben uh. Then they tried
something new, something young, that didn't work. Then last year

(07:31):
they tried two quarterbacks. Really Russell Wilson he was washed
and so do they go back to that. Well, again,
I can't tell you definitively, I don't know because I
really do not. I really do not profet that. I mean, obviously,
you as a Lions guy, like you're sitting there and

(07:53):
watching this all kind of on the sidelines of what's
what's going on? What do you think Roger does?

Speaker 3 (08:01):
So the Gary do lack account out today about the
Steelers is winging. I mean, it's down for Aaron Rodgers
down to Steelers and Giants if the Steelers are in play,
which which Gary I mean usually Gary's got very good
reporting on this, and it makes a lot of sense
considering that I don't think they're gonna have Russell Wilson back.
And now you saw it. We just saw Justin Fields

(08:22):
just sign a massive contract with the with the New
York Jets.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
So if Russell Wilson was gonna be back, with the Steelers.
He's already back with the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah, I agree. So the fact that he's not like
I think it does put Aaron Rodgers in play. You know,
they got DK Metcalf, they I mean, it'd be their
last push. But on the other hand, I do know
we have this report that Aaron Rodgers apparently likes New York.
He's got property there. The Giants seemingly will not mind
whatever baggage he brings with it, whereas I don't know

(08:50):
if that's true of the Steelers, although they certainly have
you know, with a locker room of DK Metcalf and
George Pickens, they're they're really gunning for a lot of
drama this year. Aaron Rodgers would fit right in. I
do think it would be I think it would be
most interesting if it was the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Yeah, you have Tomlin kind of going for it, going
all in. They haven't had a quarterback in years, right,
he was any good And now you have the only
thing you can do. I mean, I again, the Steelers
I think have to go there. And and the reason
is the only thing that you can do to help

(09:26):
control the egos of two wide receivers of that caliber
and that level of ego is get a quarterback who's
so well respected and is so accomplished that you can't
say anything to him. And the only guy who who
is that is Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Yeah, you're fighting, So you're fighting ego with ego again.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Equilibrium, yes, And and look, I don't think Aaron like
do I think Aaron Rodgers is an ego? Yes? Do
I think it comes out? No, you kind of have
to look for it. The the point is that George
Pickens can throw a fit all he wants when it's
an inexperienced young quarterback. George Pickens can grumble when it's
a guy who's been cut or been traded away or

(10:12):
jettisoned like his two quarterbacks were last year. George Pickens
can't do that to Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I agree.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
And I think the Steelers, you know, when you bring
in Tomlin into this, it's a lot more of a
solid organization that it's not going to be. Like when
Rogers eventually goes, hey I want Allen Lazar, It's like, well,
you have all these great receivers right here. And I
think for Rogers, he understands this is probably his last destination,
his last shot, and it would be with a team
like the Steelers, who all the history, all the expectations,

(10:45):
and really have just even though they put up winning records,
vastly underperformed for what that town expects from that team.
It could work, It could absolutely work if you get
a one more playoff push out of this group.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Now on the other side, obviously you have a head
coach in New York who is seen as a quarterback whisperer,
right you have you do have Molakue neighbors so and
you know they've tried to take time and obviously they
can rebuild it. And he does that to move again.

(11:18):
I think the Giants thing is a comfort thing and
I just want to play one more year in New
York and end it the right way. But do we
really think the Giants are gonna beat the Eagles? Do
we really think the Giants are gonna beat the Commanders? Uh? Cowboys?

(11:38):
I mean, I got no idea what that group is doing,
But couldn't have ended worse. Again, I look at the Steelers,
and for a guy who's been in the Packers organization,
and he can say what he wants about the flaws
of the Packers organization, Packers organization is one of the
best run organizations in the league, saying can be said

(11:58):
for the Steelers. Then you go to the Jets. The
Jets are kind of a circus, right, So if he
wants to win and he'll sacrifice his ego, then you
go to the Steelers and they finally found their quarterback.
If he just wants to play another year and thinks

(12:18):
he's got a quarterback whisperer who can make it look
all better and he's got a young wide receiver and
you know it's about post career, then you go to
the Giants. Chase, do you okay with that? Is you
okay with that?

Speaker 4 (12:29):
As the read I'd really welcome to the Steelers. It
looks like it's lining up to be the Steelers. But
I want to tell the listeners something. So two years ago,
two years ago around this time, like Aaron Rodgers to
the Jets was a non starter for you. Every time
we brought it up, He's like, You're like, he's not
going to follow a far He's not going to do
it far dead, He's not. That's one team he's not

(12:51):
going to go to. And I've noticed in the last
five minutes you are not going to be that Uh,
you're not going to be that strict to Rogers to
the Vikings, but you have noted how unusual that would
be to go what wasn't far of it with the
Jets two years or was it one year to go Packers, Jets, Vikings?

(13:14):
That would just be I think that would be the
best story and the best fit for him.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
They would win right now, right, yeah, Jets is one
year for Farf by the way.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Jets just one year for far if not two. But
I mean again, for Aaron Rodgers, it was really it
was really one. Okay, it was really one. Man. I'm
so excited, Like here it is, it's championship week. Obviously,

(13:43):
I'm excited about that. And I'll take you inside a
college basketball program as we're doing our exit meetings and
the transfer portals in front of us and we're recruiting
guys and what that's all like. But god, I'm excited
about the NFL in this quarterback movement. I just I am.
Because the Sam Donald thing was kind of weighing on
his way and on his way and on us. The

(14:05):
Aaron Rodgers is like, is this his last year? And
now it looks like he wants to play another year.
And then the Geno Smith thing was a surprise? Was
that that was a surprise to all? Did anybody know
that was happening? I don't remember that being reported as happening,
which I know it's not Luca. But I love these
surprise traits. Surprise traits. These are awesome. And now we're

(14:29):
left once again waiting on Aaron Rodgers. And Aaron Rodgers
told us a long time ago, Hey, I want to
make my decisions sooner rather than later. And the great
thing about the NFL, as opposed to the NBA is
these free agent decisions are made now and then you
have the draft, and then you have the draft. So man,

(14:51):
that's that's that's big time stuff. Who I'm excited. Would
any of you guys bet your salary at I'm going
to the Steeler because there and frankly there could be
other players there. Right, it does feel like San Francisco.
I think it'd be crazy for him to go there.
But if for any reason that negotiation went sideways, does

(15:13):
he go there for a year? Probably not. Okay, I
still think Minnesota's got to be a possibility. But Pittsburgh
and the Giants is like Pittsburgh's been a quarterback away
for a couple of years now. No one would dispute that, right,
Pittsburgh's been a quarterback away. And I don't think Aaron

(15:34):
Rodgers is anywhere close to what he used to be.
But if you did watch at the end of the year,
he was rounding in the four.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I just think that whole supporting cast in Pittsburgh is
set up for it. As you say, it's been a
quarterback away. They have not settled this after Ben Roethlisberger.
The narrative from the narrative side, it just makes all
the sense in the world, all the sense.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Yep, it does. But again, Aaron Rodgers doesn't always do
all the things that make all the sense in the world.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Be sure to catch them live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
It's Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
let's continue this NFL free agency talk. It started today
and it's fast and furious, and it's hopp and we've
had trades, we have teams reforming their rosters. Rich Orenberger
joins us he's a former NFL lineman and he's a
daily morning show host on our sister station in San Diego.
He also a co host of Fox Sports Radios Countown

(16:30):
to Kickoff with Jared Smith and Brian know Airs each
Saturday between nine am and new Eastern time. Listen live
on our Fox Sports Radio. Phillips are on the iHeartRadio
appresented by Bett MGM rich. Thanks so much for taking time.
Biggest story so far trades and free agency to you
is what.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
The biggest story I would say is what an enormous
jump the Las Vegas Raiders took because if you think
about the Raiders, their issue basically since the end of
the Derek Carr era has been they haven't gotten anything
right at quarterback. You know, they really are a middling

(17:13):
to poor team in the NFL. And the biggest reason
for that is it's been relatively nondescriptive quarterback. You know,
it's kind of been a who's who of Gardner Minshew,
who's a quality backup in this league. Definitely a capable,
veteran bridge quarterback, but you know he's not an everyday starter.

(17:34):
Aidan O'Connell. When you think about those two or even
a Jimmy Garoppolo who spent some time in Las Vegas. Like,
it's just it's just not going to work. You know,
you need to make an investment in the quarterback position
at some point, and I think trading for Gino Smith
is the first step. I'm very curious to see what

(17:56):
they do in the draft now. You know, the rumor
mill is starting that potentially they could be looking to,
you know, even trade down or look elsewhere other than
quarterback because it's not a particularly deep quarterback draft. But
I want to be shocked if they double down, like
if they have a Geno Smith and then yeah, they're
also interested in getting a QB to have Gino Smith groom.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Yeah, listen, I think that's exactly. I think that's what
all these teams are going to do, right when they
look and they look at the draft and they're like, yeah,
they got two maybe three that could go in the
first round, Like, yeah, we're not going to do that. Instead,
let's let's go sign a guy who's solid, right, who's
solid and he can be the guy for a year,

(18:41):
year and a half, two years, whatever, and then draft
a guy in the third or fourth round, develop him
and see if ultimately can beat him out. Meanwhile, if not,
we can always go back into the draft when there's
a deeper draft for quarterbacks.

Speaker 6 (18:54):
Yeah, yeah, I think that in general, teams are looking
I don't know, they're looking at themselves in the mirror
and saying like, all right, can we win with our roster?
And the answer for many teams is no, Well, where
do we need to fix this? Well, the blemishes are
typically not always, but typically at the quarterback position. Where

(19:14):
you have one who you can win with, who you
can consistently be in contention for the playoffs with, Well,
you've got a lot, right, because if you have a
good enough quarterback and you have a good enough head coach,
you can win a lot of games in this league.
If you have a question mark at either of those two,
it gets a lot harder. And so look, you know,
front offices, head coaches, they believe in themselves. So typically

(19:36):
we talk about the players, and it's true, I mean
it is true if you don't have a competence starter
at that position, and we know it's the most important
position in sports. You know, that's well documented how important
it is to have the right guy at the helm
on a football field. If you don't have a quarterback
or if you don't have the quarterback position right, then

(19:57):
you're going to get a lot wrong. And so I
think that's going to be the path that a lot
of teams woren't walk in the coming seasons, especially since
veterans are sticking around the game a lot longer than
they used to. You know, you have Russell Wilson floating around.
You know, you have Aaron Rodgers still looking for work.
You know there's going to be plenty more where that
came from. And that's good because not only do you

(20:18):
have a veteran who can groom a youngster, but then
you have a guy who can step into the line
of fire if somebody gets injured.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Stuck got Liab show here on Fox Sports Radio, Rich
joins us. You can hear him on Countdown every Saturday
morning here on Fox Sports Radio, and of course every
morning in San Diego. You go back like three weeks
ago and you would have but Matt Stafford is going
to be elsewhere next year, and the Rams with all

(20:47):
this young talent on defense, where they're gonna have a
new quarterback Stafford's back, and now they got Davonte Adams.

Speaker 6 (20:54):
What do you think I like the Rams? Again, going
back to what we were just discussing, when you have
a good quarterback and you have a good coach, you
have a lot right Well, Sean mcvay's a great coach.
I mean he's proven that time and time again, both
with really talented teams, taking them all the way to
the Super Bowl and winning one, you know, having appeared

(21:15):
in two Super Bowls, but also you know, taking some
of these Rams rosters recently, especially with either low expectations
to start the season or a ton of injuries to
start the season and still fighting and clawing and finding
a way into the postseason. Sean mcvay's a great coach.
Then you look at Matthew Stafford, who, while he's an

(21:36):
aging great, there's still greatness in him. He can make
all the throws and if he can stay relatively healthy,
you have a real good shot and making the postseason.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
Again.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
You add a excellent, not a good, but an excellent
number one threat on the outside like DeVonta Adams, and
they can get on the same page early. I mean,
the Rams are arguably the most dangerous team in the
NFC West right now.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, considering what the Niners thought they
were going to be Now the Seahawks look different. What
do you think of the Seahawks moved to bring in Donald.
You said, hey, if you have a pretty good coach,
you have bred your quarterback. I'm wondering your thoughts on
Donald with the Seahawks.

Speaker 6 (22:17):
Yeah, I you know, the jury's out of Mike McDonald.
I think that things felt stable with him. We'll see
how that progresses. But in terms of Sam Donald, he's
turned in the best, the best season of his career
so far. I think when you all of a sudden
put things together the way Sam Donald did, it booies

(22:40):
your confidence. And then on top of it, when you
sign with a new squad and you're coming off a
season like that, all those players know, I mean, and
those players watch the film, and those players saw how
effective you can be, and so it's just different. I mean,
think about how different Sam Donald is walking in just

(23:01):
from a confidence standpoint into the Seattle meeting rooms and
shaking hands with the coaches and his teammates for the
first time, versus when he walked into the facility in Minnesota.
You know, he was coming off of another backup year
in the NFL. With the forty nine ers, and he
went to Minnesota on a flyer to see if he

(23:22):
can't help JJ McCarthy get it right. In his first year,
JJ goes down and then he explodes as an MVP
candidate for portions of the season. So I'm very curious
to see what Sam looks like in Seattle. You knew
somebody was going to take a gamble on Sam, and
I think they gambled right. I think there's a lot

(23:43):
of good that we saw in Darnold coming out of USC.
He went to a train wreck of a program with
the New York Jets, and then he got hurt and
arguably was two injured the entire time he was in
Carolina to make that even work. And so I'm excited
for the future for Sam Darnold, but I'm really interested
to see how Seattle can capitalize off this newfound confidence.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Yeah, that's gonna be fascinating to watch. I'm wondering what
Aaron Rodgers does you know? Outside shot, maybe Minnesota for
a year feels too much like FARV Pittsburgh or the Giants,
or retire What do you think, man?

Speaker 6 (24:28):
You know Aaron Rodgers, I think first and foremost is
going to do what's best for Aaron Rodgers at this
point in his career, and that's not slighting him. I
think that's what he should do. So, if Aaron Rodgers
has an opportunity to play in Pittsburgh and it's a
situation where he's surrounded by the type of talent that

(24:50):
they've just acquired with Dka and George Pickens already being
on that roster, I mean that bodes extremely well. But
if it's the Giants, I mean, do you want to
do that? You know what I mean? It might be
a situation where Aaron says, hey, you know what's better
for me. Is it better to play for a team that's,
you know, in the middle of a rebuild that I'm

(25:12):
probably going to be grooming a quarterback? Or is it
better for me to play for a team that has
a real chance to contend here in what will be
either his final year or one of his final years.
And so I could see Aaron if the opportunities aren't
good enough for Aaron, and specifically Aerin, I could see

(25:32):
him having a gap year, you know, sitting out waiting
for somebody to call him who's desperate for a quarterback
because their starter went down during training camp or early
in the season, or who knows. Maybe if it takes
that long for him to be signed, maybe it's a
mid season acquisition where he signed as a free agent
to step in and save the day for a team
who's seven and two and has, you know, pretty high

(25:54):
playoff hopes. I think that's ill a possibility floating out
there in the ether.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
That would be fascinating. That would be fascinating. What do
you think this does for the rookie quarterbacks? I mean,
it feels like Cleveland's gonna take one, right, But now
that all these guys are, they're taking quarterbacks early. And
I know we talked about the possibility of the Raiders
developing somebody, but you don't take some you don't. You

(26:22):
don't trade for Gino Smith only to make them a backup, right,
you don't sign Sam Darland to make them a backup,
especially they're not making backup money. So what do you
think it does for Saya shudor Sanders in regards to
his draft ability? If, for example, Aaron Rodgers chooses to
go to the Giants, Well, I think.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
A lot about the salary cap and you know, some
of these newly minted contracts that we're seeing around the
NFL for the highest paid quarterbacks. You know what, what
used to be starting contract money for a quarterback is
now backup pay. And and then you know when if

(27:03):
you really pan out, even just five years ago, some
of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL, I mean
that that type of money, you know, is pennies on
the dollar compared to what you need to pay like
a solid starter who is getting a new contract these days.
So I guess the point I'm trying to make is
quarterback contracts age well with a rising salary cap. Though

(27:26):
even though right now Geno Smith doesn't really seem like
a bargain or you know, an Aaron Rodgers even you know,
when when you think about how that contract will compare
to a rookie pay scale, and then how long those
contracts will sit on your on your tap until they expire,

(27:47):
it may be a risk world you're willing to take
signing a veteran free agent or trading for in the
case of the Raiders, and then also drafting a quarterback.
It's essentially what the Falcons did, and I don't think
they necessarily did it the right way because it didn't
feel it didn't feel like they got any sort of

(28:08):
price savings on Kirk Cousins whatsoever because they read they
goes or that. You know, they signed him to a
pretty fat contract with heavy guarantees, and then they traded
up to get their quarterback of the future. I think
that was a little bit beyond the pale, but I
could see other teams doing that to a lower threshold

(28:29):
salary wise, with signing a veteran quarterback and still getting
younger in the draft at the same time.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Uh man, this is good stuff. By the way, if
you like, listen to Rich Hornberger as I do. Check
him out every morning on our Fox Sports radio affiliate

Speaker 4 (29:35):
There's one right here on my computer.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Does it still work?

Speaker 3 (29:40):
I thought you have to pay for it. It's part
of like the ex premium or whatever. Really, yeah, Fox
Sports Radio goes the extra mile, however, I will. Let's
talk off air, Duck. Let's talk off air.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
I have a no, it's it's okay. I mean they
granted me the premium thing. I need to pay for
that thing, so that's gonna be okay, super interesting. I
didn't know that. I just need just because all this
stuff is fast and furious, and you're trying to process
as you go, and you're just kind of watching Twitter
and watching all those guys that you respect their insiders
and wondering what it all means.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Twitter has gone down like about four or five times
today too, So it's been I've had to like open
up threads and blue Sky here and there as well.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
Buyer's a big blue Sky guy. I've tried tried Blue Sky.
It's like Jeremy Sue, it doesn't do it for me.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
Welcome in. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports. Ready,
you know, Monday's top of next hour. We do a
little love and hate for the weekend. Before we get
to that, we get to a game.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
This is Game Tide on The Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
The sarcastic wit of Isaac Loewencron has a game for
us today. Illow what he got.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
You're half right. This is inspired by it being the
first day of NBA NFL free agency.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
Sure, big deal, little deal, big deal, little deal.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
I'll actually be handling the first side of myself here, Doug.
Moments ago, Fox Sports radio host Doug Gottlieb said that
he did not care for tiering me, Sue, I say,
that is a huge deal. Why don't you like tierram me, Sue?
Everybody likes tiering me, Sue.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
I didn't. I don't think I said I didn't like it.
I just said, like, it's not that big a thing
to me, right, And that's and that's actually from Sleeps
in Seattle? Was it Sleeps in Seattle? You know, wasn't
Sleepers in Seattle? Where Rob Reiner is walking down the
street with Tom Hanks and you know, Tom Hanks is
new on the dating scene because his wife died, and

(31:45):
he's like, it's like, teer me, Sue, what is it this?
Try it? You'll love it? Well? What if she asked
me how to do it? I don't know how. I
don't worry about it. Just try it. You'll love it. Anyway.
That was the tear me Sue age.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Boy, you think you know someone anything?

Speaker 1 (31:58):
You know?

Speaker 2 (31:58):
A movie? Now, onto the business at hand. Big deal,
little deal or no deal that the Buffalo Bills have
given quarterback Josh Allen the largest contract in NFL history.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
I mean it's obviously a big deal, right, It's obviously
a big deal, and I think we all know what's
behind it. What's behind it is you only get mid
a new contract, mid contract if you know the you're
trying to save some money against the cap this year
to go out and get more players, get better players, right,

(32:35):
and you feel like you got prime Josh Allen, Okay,
now we want to go all in. I guarantee all
this does is move that tax bill down a couple
of years, saying, go and get some dudes here on
the market. That's the only reason you do it.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Recently, Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley said that
the current crop of star running backs quote needs to
get paid unquote Quon bark advocating for his fellow RBS
big deal, little deal or no deal. Perhaps he should

(33:09):
be advocating for his fellow defensive lineman on his team
to get paid.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Well, no, I mean like, look, this is what this
is what happens. Okay, this is this is what obviously
happens is and this is my fear, Like Sakwa Markley
earned the right to be the highest paid running back
in the NFL, and but what's gonna happen is all
these other running backs are like, well, if you got that,
I should get more like no, you shouldn't. Is a

(33:34):
very specially unique case where he kind of took a
bargain deal. He only took a million dollars more than
what the Giants were offering him to go across the
street and play for the Eagles. He wins a Super Bowl,
he has a great, great season, and he becomes, you know,
the highest paid guy ever. So yeah, now he's trying
to drive up the market, which you know, I'm sure
makes him beloved in other locker rooms. Reality is, I

(33:56):
don't know it was a good deal because the fight
was ever against paying running backs. It's paying running backs
for the second, third, and fourth year of their second
or third contracts.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
Bing go on to basketball. Golden State Warrior star Steph
Curry has accepted a role as that assistant general manager
for the Davidson program where he played his college Who
a big deal, little deal or no deal?

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Ooh, it's a huge deal. It's never been done before.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
Now.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
I don't know what his actual level involvement is, but
you know, you use those the assistant general manager is.
It's a little bit like Dwight Shrute, Right, he's the
assistant to the regional manager. Right. What is he actually
doing it's a figurehead position, but they're doing it to
try and raise money, to try and get some nil,
to try and get Davidson competitive in an A ten

(34:51):
where I've been told the top teams have a million
dollars in NIL, and Davidson, though financially successful in of
the school, they just never put those types of resources
towards basketball. So if you fascinated to see what this
means financially for the Davidson Men's basket.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Protkram final item from baseball, multiple outlets reporting world champion
LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has agreed to a four year,
thirty two million dollar plus extension, becoming the highest paid
annual average value manager in baseball history. Big deal, little
deal or no deal?

Speaker 1 (35:29):
How much is it?

Speaker 2 (35:31):
Just over eight million dollars per season?

Speaker 1 (35:34):
Wow, that's a huge deal. That's a huge deal because
haven't they been massively underpaid for years? That because you
talk about running backs, you gott to show up one
hundred sixty two nights, put in a lineup card and
choose some seats and then waddle it out there to
take the ball from your starting pitcher Wattle.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
And remember how close they were to being eliminated by
the Padres in Game five in the opening round. So
that's it for this edition. And one final note. Apparently
the best Tiramy Sue in Green Bay is it a
place called Angelina on North Adams Street.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
You're Angelina is good, It's good. I've been there. I
have not had their chairmy sue, nor will I. And
that is game time.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Game This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show, This.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, Eddie
Boyce owns it, by the way, Eddie Boyce, you're trying
me on that. What we love from the weekend, what
we hate from the weekend. Love it hate is next
