Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What up Doug Gottlieb Show in the Bonus Fox Sports Radio.
iHeart where you are. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome in.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Do do do do do do so.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Tomorrow guys, we head to the US Virgin Islands. I
will be unable because of our travel time to do
the show. Never been to the Caribbean, never been to
the Caribbean. And I think the win for a lot
of the guys just like, hey, we don't need a passport,
like Okay, have any of you guys been either of

(00:41):
you guys been to the Virgin Islands.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
I have. I've been to Uh, Saint Thomas and Saint John's.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Okay, great, we're going to Thomas. Yeah, we are going
to Saint Thomas. We're gonna take Camran into Saint Saint
John's for a day. What uh what do I need
to know?

Speaker 4 (00:59):
A y, you know, it's been a it's been a
long time. It's probably been over twenty years. What do
you need to know? Just bring your sun block, bring
your swim trunks. M maybe you'll eat some conk you
ever had conk, Doug.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
I haven't is it conk ers a kunch.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
It's conk. That's how I've always said it.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
So conk Jason, and I know this is a literary reference, right, Jay,
I mean this is whoever had the conk shell in
Lord of the Flies, right controlled the group. We're talking
about the same counk. Correct.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Yeah, it's like a it's it's it's like a mollusk.
It's the shell is sort of shaped like I don't
even know how it's shaped. It's got little spikes on it.
But you can make it into a hornooo, you can
blow it. But they make it into all kinds of stews,
conk fritter. Some conk sanctuaries have been wiped out in
the last fifteen years or so from hurricanes, but it's
still a pretty popular food item down there in the Caribbean.

(02:03):
I would definitely do that. Try. They love they love
like macaroni and cheese cast role. That was one thing.
There's a couple of dishes in the Caribbean. They're like staples.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
So now do they speak with like that a Jamaican.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Accent or like, yeah, there's sort of a little bit
of like a British lilt. There's a little bit of
like an American English British, a little bit of Yeah,
that's sort of the Jamaican kind of accent on on
any of the islands I've been to, like Grenada too,
I've been. I've been all over down there. This is
all my mom's doing when we were growing up. She
wanted to check out those places. O.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
All right, that's that's pretty cool. Uh what about you there, Jays,
Do you never traveled to the Caribbean?

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Negative? I have zero to add to this. I do
know that most of the Caribbean has been divided up
by conquerors over the past couple three or four or
five centuries. So you do have like interesting of Europe throughout.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, you got French, you got Spanish, and you got English, right,
British or whatever.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
I think. Thenother ones played a played a big role too,
the Dutch, some Dutch.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah which ones are the Dutch though? The Dutch of
they have they have the West Indies and then they
have gosh, dang it, one of the other countries that's
down there they have shoot.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Well, yeah, we said French, Spanish, Uh, you know, British
or you know American territories and then yeah, Dutch. Uh
but yeah, Like if you go to some of the
islands like Martinique, I think they only speak French. It's
really interesting, like they also they speak a little English,
but the prime primary language on the island is French.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
It looks like Aruba and Carousel or Aruba. And remember
the nether Ones is also called Hallwand and they speak Dutch.
So something is strange going on there. I don't know.
I don't know what the difference is between all of that.
I would rather just have one item, just call them

(04:10):
Holland and you speak Hallish Holland oats.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
I think people don't call it Holland anymore. I mean
they do, but it's it's nether Netherlands or Netherlands kind
of island, right I believe.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
So yeah, I so is Carousel. And that's all the
way down near South America. I just again like familiar
the eyes of myself, as the Cayman Islands are just
south of Cuba and the US Virgin Islands. Well, Grenada
is way down there, Barbados, Sam Vincent's and the Grenades,

(04:45):
Saint Lucia, Martinique, Guadaloupe, Saint John's. Okay, now I see
San Martin. The British version islands are Saint Croix in
Charlotte Emilie or something. So Antigua Aru Ba and the
US Virgin Allens are over there, right, I just.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
What I think of when I think of Caribbean. I
just I don't distance between islands like I don't even
I can't even conceptualize it. I just know of the
places I've been and there you're surrounded by water, so
it's sort of hard to tell, like where you are
in the world.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yeah, but they are.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
There are some beautiful white sand beaches down there in
different parts. And unfortunately a hurricane did some some bad
damage to Jamaica recently, but a lot of these different
islands they get ravaged by hurricanes every couple of years
and it's just awful. But Puerto Rico has been through
that too. But yeah, they're just desperate for your your
tourism money. So spend spend away.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Okay, anything that I'm supposed to bring back from the
US verst downs like, yeah, you gotta gotta bring this back.
Should I bring back conch?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Yeah, there's like shell Tinier, conk con I say, conk
conk shells you can find sometimes you can find them
out on the on the beach, but usually they get
picked up and sold. But yeah, try to bring back
some cool shells. People make little hand woven items, you know,
necklaces and stuff, and they're definitely grateful for your business.

(06:10):
So uh really, I always had great experiences down there,
nice people, and uh, you know, it's it's island life. Man,
you're on island time. Don't try to rush your don't
try to rush your meal. You're an island time. It's
gonna take to.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
No doubt, jay Stuh your next place to visit as where.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
I've told you before, there's a there's a place in
South Africa where you could bungee jump the the highest
and more more deathly deadliest cavern in the world. South
Africa doesn't have uh what do you call it liability laws?

(06:49):
They don't really have any kind of they're not a
litigious society like we are. So you could bunge jump
from the ankles too, by the way, because the last
time I bunge it it was from the chest. It's
a little bit more constrictive and safe. I want no safety.
I want from the ankles and I want this cavern
in South Africa where I could go down the steepest

(07:12):
bungee jump.

Speaker 6 (07:13):
I want to go to.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I haven't been to Greece in forever. I'd like to
go to Greece. I like to go to Italy. I
had to go to Spain, but I'd like to do
a Part of me wants to do where you just
hang out and you know, enjoy like beach night life.
But part of me wants to just get like a
Airbnb in like a cute little town and live for
a couple of weeks and see what that's like.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
You know, when you're down there, Doug, so you know
you've got just this trip in front of you, and
then all those other great places, the destinations you can
plan out, you know, for over the course of your life.
But have yourself a Caribe Caribbean logger. That's one of
the big beers down there. Caribe crib like the beginning
of Caribbean. And then if you find yourself the only
one I've ever had besides Caribe is a Medaia Light,

(07:58):
which is like the beer of Puerto Rican. So if
you find yourself there in Puerto Rico, have.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
A media lte Mediahlte.

Speaker 5 (08:05):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
But when you're in st you'll be at Saint John's
and Saint Thomas. See if they can have yourself a
carib There's nothing special about it. It's just you're just
drinking the popular beer of the island.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Let's get to the Foxes and now every day of
this time in the Modus podcast and play for you
a previous portion of a Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports
One show. Here's Jonas Knox and Brady Quinn talking about
the Raiders.

Speaker 7 (08:40):
I don't know what my expectations were for them. I
didn't think that they were a playoff team, but I
just thought that they would be further along than this,
and they're nowhere close. And it just seems like Pete
Carroll's aging by the game. The way this season's gone.

Speaker 8 (08:56):
They just don't have what they need on the roster.
I will continually keep saying that Gino Smith's in a really,
really tough position, and whether it's a lack of protection
or a lack of weapons, I mean I think about
this like Bowers obviously as they're leading, you know, receiver
at tight end. He was out for a period of time,
like when you didn't have him, you don't have anything,

(09:17):
and he is that chess piece that that's a true
difference maker.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
But you have to have more.

Speaker 8 (09:22):
And when the run game's not there with Genty like
last night, it's just there's not really much you can do.
And that's the tough spot that Geno's in, the Raiders
offenses in, and really it's putting the defense in. Is
they're gonna get outscored most games and they're gon become
one dimensional most games. Like it's not hard to take
away Bowers and then they have to kind of figure

(09:43):
out what they're gonna do after that. So if they
can't run the football and they can't add in or
sprinkle in some of their pieces, like I just sprinkle,
But think about it like that is a tough spot
to be.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
In when you're handing the ball off to genty. There
has to be somebody who could take the top off
the defense. They don't have it. I agree this is
a bad football team, but I think part of it
is this is the house that's had multiple contractors. You know,
you go three different gms in three different years, and

(10:15):
what do you expect to have happened? It is not.
You have to have some kind of consistency. Here's Dan
Patrick talking about Lane Kiffin in Ole.

Speaker 9 (10:23):
Miss Lane Kiffin's family is taking a private tour of
Florida and LSU. Once again, Lane is not, but his
family is. And to me, the first time I heard
this was is somebody leaking this for negotiations? Because you
want leverage and Lane has leverage. You got the best

(10:44):
year old Missus ever had. They're going to be in
the playoffs and all of a sudden LSU and Florida
open up. I know it'll never happen, and in this
case it doesn't make sense. But one time I'd love
for an athletic director to say, are you looking at
other jobs? Are you looking at other jobs? Does that

(11:04):
violate your contract? Like I would, I would say, decide,
like if you're sending your family, why is your family
going there?

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Now?

Speaker 9 (11:11):
I know you know the athletic director is going to say, no,
we don't want to lose Lane Kiffin. But I wish
one time somebody would just say, you know what, we
hired you, we pay you. Okay, we're in this together. Now,
all of a sudden, you got a better deal.

Speaker 10 (11:27):
Okay, why don't you go?

Speaker 2 (11:31):
They're they're forever scared of losing that piece. I think
the thing for Lane Kiffin is, you know, obviously the
money is so much greater and the support is so
much greater, but the and and maybe it is, but
I get the sense that it isn't, that it's not
that definably different, and that ultimately you're gonna want to stay.

(11:52):
And if ultimately you want to stay, you shouldn't play
these games because all it does is hurt your ability
to maintain some consistency with your players. Although maybe that
doesn't matter. Guys are gonna leave anyway. But I mean,
I agree in premise with what with what Dan is saying.
Reality of it is, athletic directors are just scared that

(12:14):
the guy will go, yeah, I'm gonna leave, I walk
out of that door, and that you know, now, all
of a sudden you got to hire a coach when
you had the right coach. The best thing you can
do is go lock in and say, hey, what what
is it gonna take to get you to stay here?
You know what more can we provide you. I do
think that on some level, not all coaches, but some level,

(12:35):
there are coaches that can be very, very very loyal
for the right job. Like, hey man, you took me
when I was down and out and you gave me
an opportunity, and I'm gonna remember that. The question, the
question for all these coaches is, you know, they believe
the first time that something goes bad, they're gonna get fired.
That's what happened to James Franklin, that happened to Mike Gundy,

(12:58):
So they don't it. Loyalty is supposed to be a
two way street, and it is not. I don't think
Lane Kiffin should leave. I think he's at the perfect spot,
but again I don't know enough about his situation. Here's
Colin Cowhert talking about the Cowboys.

Speaker 11 (13:12):
Dallas is probably not as far off as everybody thinks.
Dallas has a top ten to twelve quarterback run games,
good interior d line, Kenny Clark, Quinnin Williams, the weapons
on the perimeter they stole George Pickens. That's a lot
of playoff boxes.

Speaker 7 (13:27):
Now.

Speaker 11 (13:28):
The offensive line is young, they're inconsistent on pass protection,
but the Cowboys are after the Packers and Seahawks, the
youngest offense in the league, so they are an ascending offense.
And remember I've been on this, they don't need a quarterback.
Seven teams in the league are desperate for it. So
those two first round picks quarterback is going to be

(13:49):
overdrafted like it is every year, and this year Dallas
is going to be able to manipulate that first round,
those two picks. So not all, not all struggling teams
are equal. Dallas is young, they're ascending. They got a
top ten to twelve quarterback. The Jets don't, the Browns don't,
the Raiders don't, the Saints don't, the Titans don't. Dallas

(14:10):
has the same number of wins as the Miami Dolphins.
And I would take Dallas ten out of ten times
because of Dak.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
I it's Dak, and it's they have weapons and they
have draft picks. I actually think that the move they
made to basically understand this year was not going to
win a championship so they had to purspare of themselves
for maybe next year was brilliant. And you know, I

(14:39):
continue to tell people that that that when people criticize
Jerry Jones. It's like, what do we create criticized Jerry
j Just has he overpaid some of his own players? Yeah,
and we thought he overpaid Dak and maybe he did,
But right now he's he looks like the smartest man
in the room. The thing about Jerry that people will
tell you in the league is they've generally done a
pretty good job up until recently. They had some bad

(15:02):
drafts recently, but they've done a pretty good job of
acquiring talent. It's more kind of the chemistry, coaching and
other things that have derailed them. And Dak hasn't been
great in the playoffs. But if they can build a
top level defense, you know, with with those draft picks,
which I think Colin points out, like, you're gonna have

(15:24):
all these quarterback needy teams and the Cowboys will be
able to get a ton of picks, so a ton
of new young players, and you don't have to hit
one hundred percent when you have multiple picks in the
first couple rounds. You can hit that sixty six percent
and still be really, really successful. That's what the Fox is.

Speaker 11 (15:42):
Say.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Let's find out who What's annoying? Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
And now it's your annoy and Doug.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
We've had about forty eight hours since the spitting incident
in the Steelers Bengals game on Sunday, and we've had
forty eight hours of people reacting to it, covering it,
talking about it. And Mike Tomlin was asked today what
he said to Jalen Ramsey after the game Sunday.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
I have no message.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
If someone spits in your face, do what comes natural.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
I kind of resent the question, like there's this strange
there's a strange like underbelly of the story that Jamar
Chase's actions were justified by something, as if Jalen Ramsey
said something that would at all justify or warrant getting
spit on. Remember Chase said this after the game on Sunday.

Speaker 7 (16:57):
He was saying that you spit on him?

Speaker 8 (16:58):
Did you spin on him?

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I never opened my mouth to that guy.

Speaker 7 (17:02):
So what what do you think prompted the reaction from him?

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Well, you don't like some of us worries I told
him on nobody.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
So he denied it.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
He the team did not make him available for uh
interviews yesterday, and then he's appealing the one game suspension,
one game unpaid suspension. Right, So he has not taken accountability.
He has not apologized. And again the sentiment in a

(17:36):
lot of corners is what must Joe and Ramsey have said?
There is no there's no excuse. And if you want
to like take an example, we have a tangible example.
Week one, Jalen Carter missed the entire game.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
The reporters couldn't get out of the building before the kid,
and I don't think he's very bright, but I guess
it speaks to the leadership of the Eagles. The kid
had a apologize to the fan base, to the teammates.
Shouldn't have done what he did. It was stupid. Jamar
Chase one of the faces of the league, the greatest
at his position currently and he has shown not one

(18:14):
ounce of accountability. In fact, the only thing he's said
is a denial. So again, there's a lot of like
annoying things about this story. I guess one is that
there's something that may have justified the actions and that's
why there were not being hard enough on him or something.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Oh, there's no doubt that. I mean, Jayla Ramsey has
never been a guy that anybody has come up saying
great things about. Still shouldn't bring you to spitting on
a guy, But yeah, there's probably some more stuff that
was said there that's beyond reproach. I still don't think
you spit on a guy, but it's one of those
you know, I understand, I understand what else.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
Well, I think that it should factor into the appeal.
He has yet to take accountability. He's had forty eight
hours to do so. In fact, he actually just lied
about it, so if he's looking. I don't know what
the NFLPA processes and appeals, but if the circumstances are
factored in and how he handled it after the fact,

(19:15):
maybe that was considered with Jalen Carter. I mean, there
wasn't any reporting, but he took at least ownership of
it in the very near aftermath of what happened. So
we'll see how that plays up. So there is a
this viral cult from the weekend from Kirby Smart and
I'll tell you what I'm annoyed by. But I'd love

(19:37):
to get your thoughts on it.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
It's the approach we take. We're gonna we're gonna dominate
and try to win the fourth quarter. It's it's what
we do in practice, it's what we do in the
off season. It's what we build our core culture around.
Is being a more physical team. And you have to
recruit physical players and they have to buy into that process.
I don't know that a lot of these kids nowadays,
they want to check. They don't want physicality, and if
you have to check in no physicality, you end up
with nothing. So we're not just getting checks in our place,

(20:03):
We're hitting people.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
I love the comment, and I know he's I know
he's accurate. There's probably a lot of coaches that share
his sentiment. I always I remember having a conversation with
my dad back way back in the day about why
are there so many poor people in pro sports, and
he says that when you grow up with nothing and
you have to fight your way out of your situation,

(20:28):
there's a certain amount of tenacity, ambition, and I guess
in this case physicality. I wonder if the payment on
the college level is going to make these uh, these
players are a little bit weaker.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Uh, it's possible. It's possible. You know, it's really hard
to hold guys accountable when in there they're make you know,
it's like some guys, you do wonder do you care
because you're still getting paid regardless of whether you play
or play the way you want or not. And you know,
our thing at our level, Jason is you know, we
wanted to get older, so we got you know, five

(21:06):
guys that are on their last year. But of those
five guys, some of them, you know, we felt like
they'd be super pumped to like make it like you
made it to Division one. It's your last year, show
out because you want to keep growing what you're doing
and use this as like your first pro year and
keep making more and more money. But it doesn't always
work that way. Some guys they hit a little adversity

(21:28):
and they shut down. So you do kind of play
the numbers game.

Speaker 5 (21:31):
I like it terms of a paycheck culture. That's a
great one. Yeah. So last I don't know if you
saw this, Sure people have watched it. The video is viral.
Someone who lost three thousand dollars on a bet. So
this is how gambling works. Somebody bet three thousand dollars

(21:53):
for Jimmy Butler to score at least thirty points at
a ten to one payoff. So, in this Better's mind,
as you hear this sound, Jimmy Butler cost him thirty
thousand dollars, not three thousand. It's a weird one. Uh
so three thousand to win thirty on Jimmy Butler scoring
thirty points. He did not. And Jimmy Butler's just walking

(22:14):
the streets in this video and the Better pulls up
on him.

Speaker 10 (22:17):
Mail fucking Queen Apple looking at it? Stupid big ad Tampa,
Jimmy Butler. Many don't give a fuck. Don see stupid
looking a look at him.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
I won't pray, look at a it.

Speaker 10 (22:29):
Yay, bro, I've put three thousand, I went thirty. Why
do you have thirty parts? Jimmy Butla, Why do you
did not have a thirty parts? You were about to
go over bitch? You worked for Vegas. You worked for Vegas.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
So there's a disturbing to say the least. And I'm
not sure why you would get that on video. It
seems like a real easy thing for cops to uh
to find you now, but people are stupid, uh and
so it reminds me of something that maybe Bickerscheff Staff
said last April about the treatment of fans and players

(23:06):
and coaches.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
It brings added pressure, It brings, you know, a distraction
uh to the game that can be difficult for players, coaches, referees,
you know, everybody that's involved in it. And I think that,
you know, we really have to be careful, you know,
with how close we let it get to the game, uh,

(23:29):
and the security of the people who are involved in it,
because again, it does carry a weight. You know, a
lot of times the people who are gambling like this
money you know, pays their light bill or plays their
rent uh and then the emotions that come from that.
So I do think we're walking a very fine line
and we have to be extremely careful in protecting everybody

(23:51):
who's involved.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
Remember that SoundBite went by the boards, went pretty quickly
through the news system, and I think that he's trying
to say on the alarm, like at some point, something
really bad is going to happen to one of these players,
and we just didn't quite listen along the way because
everyone's making so much money off of the legalized gambling.
But there's a reason why gambling wasn't legal for many,

(24:13):
many decades, and it's because the downstream effect of it
is the depravity that it causes in society. And if
you're betting five hundred dollars because your rent is a thousand,
and you lose that five hundred dollars and you have
nothing to lose, and then you are in physical contact
with somebody who cost you your month's rent, and who

(24:38):
knows what you're capable of doing, especially when you add
mental health and everything in there. But I think that
like comments like JB. Bickerstaff, I always get the same impression,
like that's a really smart thing to say, and he's
trying to sound an alarm, but it's to deaf ears
because everybody's making so much money off of this.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
No question at all, there's any question at all that
we we have kind of opened up Pandora's box that
you can't close back up, and there's a lot of
bad that comes out of it, and we choose to
ignore it. I don't know what to do either with it.
It's like I want to, you know, when I played

(25:21):
in college, Jason, I don't think we've ever had this discussion.
Coach Sutton used to always he know the lines and
neither way to it ever work for you, Like Vegas
thinks you're six points better than Vegas doesn't know anything.
You know, Vegas doesn't even think you're any good. You're
four point dogs at a home right, So we would

(25:42):
joke about how much he knew the lines. But now
when you find out a line, like do you mention
it to your players? Do people think that you're gambling
on it?

Speaker 9 (25:49):
Whatever?

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Like it's it's crazy, it's crazy, how accessible things are crazy.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
So I've got just the kind of reaction to the
spitting incident, Kirby Smart's comments and uh, just that very
disturbing sound of a better getting access to yell at
Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
I would say the very very the access to Jimmy Butler.
We talked about things that are annoying, like you bet
you lost, that's on you. Don't blame the players, you're.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Noting why are we doing this because we can?

Speaker 5 (26:33):
So bo Nicks has been getting a lot of crap
on social media and from analysts over the past couple
of weeks. He said last week that he doesn't look
at his social media and his teammate Adam Troutman after
the Win on Sunday took up for Bonnix.

Speaker 12 (26:53):
First off, if you're talking about bow online, you're a coward,
absolute coward. But want to say that and proven and
guard him a little bit, But I mean it says
a lot. You know, he he blanks it out and
we talked about it this week. You know, we don't
care what other people think. We know what we have
in the building and we know what he's made of,

(27:14):
and we don't really care what people have to say.
So Dragon Slayers sixty nine with his seven to eleven
slurpy in his mom's basement. I don't give a shit
what yes to say, right, and Bo doesn't either.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
How good was that he did not do Corvette Guy though,
thank god? I mean Corvet Guy would have taken it
really personal. Why could we play it for you because
we can't. That's it for the end the Bonus Podcast.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
